Gancho, Friday, January 15th. It's Oscar Night, and He’ll Tell You All About It

After the frightening events of the last few days, including a near rape of Estrella, and a heart attack for Salvador, we’ve been hoping for some relief, some happiness, some comedy. So many times, our villains have been bumblers, making far-reaching plans, conniving, striving to get money, power, and whatever else makes their evil hearts quiver. Most of the time, however, La Monita has appeared to save the day, as has Cristian, and even Beto. But not today. As Thomas Paine said “These are the times that try men’s souls”. So without further ado, let’s see what evil hath been wrought. In order to give you a better idea of what makes these evil guys tick, I’m going to try to give you a villain’s eye point of view. How would Oscar tell the story? Of course, he wasn’t in every scene, so in the other scenes, I’ll have someone else give you the scoop.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oscar: Okay, guys, that wimp Sal seems to have a heart attack or something, bfd, wait, he’s gonna hit me in the chops? I’ll just kick him in the chest. Twice. Ya like that, softie? Hah, he’s down on the floor. Oh, you want an ambulance? Whoa, Coni darling, don’t you dare try to call, I’ll just rip the phone out of the wall. I can’t believe Connie’s kneeling down next to him, is she sorry for the nerd? I think she said she WANTS Grupo Sermeño to buy the vecindad. That way she’ll not only own everything of Mau’s, but also everything of Moni’s. Ah, that’s the evil Coni I know.

Beto: What is my soul brother doing? He seems to be viewing some kind of black and white film in his head. Okay, now I see. La Mamá of Monita really didn’t give him a choice. If he didn’t go along with her, she was going to tell Moni she hated her from the day she was born. The other choice was that Isabel would act real nice to Moni for a few weeks, then “die”, and Moni would have those happy memories. Okay, I get it, but Constanzia saw that dame earlier today, she may be getting close to the truth. Know what, bro’? Moni had better not find out, because that would destroy her life! Ooops, speak of the devil. So, Monita, you ask whose life is going to be destroyed? Uyyyyy!

Oscar: Well, I’m checking this joker’s pulse, I guess he’s still with us, but I’ll let Coni stew about it a bit. Listen babe, we’re not calling an ambulance, and certainly not the police. I’ll handle everything. We’re both in this, and it’s better that you leave. And don’t you dare breathe a word that either of us was even here. Oh, you’re not a murderer? Who cares? You’ll do just what I say. Yeah, I’m grabbing her shoulders, so what? She ain’t gonna cross me.

Beto: Well, if Moni wants the truth, I might as well let it out. It’s something really big. (Mau looks worried). It’s life changing (Mau is more worried). It’s that…..I now know who my Papá is! Moni tells me, Great, but what’s that about destroying someone’s life? Oh, well, he’s a famous person on TV, and if I go to find him, he’d think it would destroy his life, you know how those celebrities are. Anyway, I confronted my Ma, and she spilled the soup. So who is it? It’s Juan José Origél, El Pepillo is my “papillo”.

Oscar: So, Connie, you say we have to get rid of the body, maybe put it in the trunk of my car? Sorry, there’s no room in my trunk. You ask if I collect cadavers in my trunk? (if you only knew). Calm down, hon’. Everyone knows Salvador is going to Venezuela tomorrow. I’ll make arrangements for someone else to take the flight in his place, and no one will be the wiser. So leave, and let me handle this. Okay, she’s leaving. Babe? Who was that woman who wanted to see Mauricio? What do you mean, none of my business? Well, fine, but remember, when you get divorced, we’ll settle accounts. There she goes, I think I’ll just give Sal a little kick, the bum. Oh, he’s whispering something. “Gabriela”. Hah, how touching. Here’s a little red rose I’ll drop on your chest, you loser.

Beto: So, Moni, you ask if I’m sure about this Papá thing? Oh, here comes my jefa! Looks like her hair’s all done up purty for the bachelorette party Gabi’s having tonight. Let’s see, some little curls, pink bows, red feathers, she’s still pure Nieves. Moni’s asking Nieves what’s up with my Papá? Nieves seems to be dodging the question, saying she has to get dressed up for the party, she wants to look good when she talks to her consuegra Jacqui.

Paula: Estrella’s really upset, I’ll see if I can get her out of her funk by getting her to go to the bachelorette party. Ah, she doesn’t want to go, doesn’t want to do anything, she’s so upset about those boys, and Aldo, I can understand that. Look, Estre, lots of guys brag about their conquests. Right, not Cristian, and not Mau, but look at Beto and the other nacos, they all brag. And women gossip about stuff, too. Oh, she’s telling how those boys almost had their way with her, if Moni hadn’t saved her. She wanted to fight, but was so scared. I’ll try to calm her down. Wait, here come Beto, Mau and Monita. Mau’s asking Estre why she’s crying, and if she had a problem with his son.

Aldo: What went wrong? I’m sitting here in the dark (no, of course I’m not crying). Wait, I remember that guy Oscar said I could call him anytime. Where is that phone number? Ah, right here in the drawer. I’ll call. Damn, here’s Katia walking into my room without knocking! What do you want, Katia? Right, you want to be friends, you want me to tell you what happened, well, sorry, I really need you to leave me alone know, so out the door you go. Good, she’s gone, I’m calling that number.

Estrella: Hmmm, El Príncipe wants to come into my room to talk. Well, I guess I have to be nice, but I really can’t tell him what happened, no way! So, Príncipe, why was I crying? Well, I’m just sensitive, you know how we actresses are, living life in each moment. Aldo, sure everything’s fine with him, just fine, just, ummm, fine. Ah, you don’t believe me, you’re taking my hands, looking into my eyes, you want me to be honest. Well, okay, you’re right, Aldo and I had a little argument, you know, that happens with all couples, no? And I didn’t become Aldo’s novio if the first little problem I have, I’m supposed to discuss it with his Dad. No, we’ll handle it, don’t you worry, now I just have to get ready for that party (I hope he bought that act).

Paula: Right, I’m just gossiping with Moni about Aldo and Estrella. We’re both agreeing how much of a problem they have, she won’t go for the pregnancy test, and if they had the baby, well Aldo’s really not ready for that, and it would be quite a mess (she said sería una movida de tapete así toda cañona, which I guess is it would be a move of the carpet, totally like a cannon, or maybe pulling the rug out from under him). Hmmm, wonder if Estrella’s telling Mau the truth right now? Oh, here he comes. Seems fine, just says Aldo and Estrella had their first little lover’s quarrel. I guess she didn’t tell him. Whoa, here comes Nieves, look at her! She’s got on a shiny pink top, and THIS pocketbook looks like a little doggie with a bow. Where does she buy those bags? She’s had a cow, a lion, and now a puppy. And here’s Estrella, ready to go. Mau will take us to the party, but I see Moni’s asking him to drop us off at the corner, so those two won’t be seen together. But look at him kissing her! They’re walking together pretty close for two people who don’t want the people to see them together.

Jackie: Welcome to Ladies Night! We’ve got red heart balloons, lots of red, pink and white flowers, this Nieves is a trip, talking about doing three passes through the neighborhood, showing off her outfit, what does she mean, asking if she needs to hang herself up on the wall, or mortar (colgarme el molcajete)? I guess she thinks her outfit makes her look like a decoration. She thinks she looks better than I do, when I’m wearing this fur coat? Ah, I’ll humor her. Yes, dear, you look divine. Oyyy, she’s telling me how she got her nails and toes done, and what? And if you tip them, they’ll file your corns and bunions (te liman los callos y juanetes)? Too much information. I think I need a drink.

Nieves: Uh oh, here comes Moni, looking pretty in a white dress with an orange top, and Paula, also nice in her blue print dress. What do you mean, you want the truth about Beto’s Dad? What do you mean, was it a lie? Well, um, well, what did you want me to say? He asked me, he insisted, and the truth is very painful. Isn’t it better Beto is happy, thinking his father is a famous person, than knowing the ugly truth? (Viewers, the parallel to the Moni/Isabel situation is quite evident here). So, girls, you ask what happens if Beto tries to confront El Pepillo? Ain’t gonna happen, that dude’s got guards, reporters can’t get near him, nor can girls, so my Betito, the mutt (chucho) he is, won’t even get close to him.

Mauricio: Guess I’ll call Sal’s cell. Hmm, no answer. I’ll leave a message, Sal, what happened with that lawyer, please call, ASAP. That should do it. Hmmm, I’m worried about Connie and Isabel, too. If I only had a brain.

Estrella: I’m standing here, feeling out of place, slowly munching on some little snacks, alone, down, and Gabi’s gabbing away with Ximena. Gabi’s so happy about her marriage, picturing her honeymoon, kids, what things’ll be like in 20 years. Not me, of course. Oh, there goes Xime with her 3 things. Una, Salvador is a real man (un tipazo), he’s got a few years on him, but he’s great. Dos, he adores you, and you’re going to be very happy with him. And Tres, Estrella seems to be somewhat absent from this party. Oh, they’re asking me if I had problems with Aldo. No more, girls, we broke up. Oh Xime’s cheering me up, telling me not to worry, I’m pretty, I have a great ability to attract men. And also a great ability that they leave? Xime! Gabi’s suggesting Tano. No, he’s just a friend. What, Xime, you’re suggesting your brother in law Arnoldo? Sorry, girls, at this point I don’t want any Aldos, Tanos, Arnie’s no guys, really.

Isabel: I love standing here in my hotel room in front of a creepy orange curtain doing nothing, just letting the evil music play. Ah, there’s the doorbell. Who could it be? I’ll just walk over in my severe, belted dress and heels and see. Oh her, the Momia. I don’t feel like talking to her, but here she comes, walking into my room with that attitude. Well, we’ll see who’s in charge.

Jackie: Game time, girls, I’m going to hand out these toilet paper rolls to everyone. Hmmph, that naca Nieves thinks we ate too much food, and need to get it out. No, sweetie, these rolls are to dress the novia, it’s a game we play, and some of the games are erotic, so watch out! Ahhh, they liked that part, they’re all getting into the spirit, wrapping paper around our Gabi.

Isabel: I know who you are, the Momia, Valentina told me all about you. Bad things, you ask? For sure. Now get out. Oh, you want to talk. I don’t. You ask if I know what I’ve done to you? Sorry, I don’t care. So you’re taking my hand, putting it on your belly, telling me that my car crashed into you, and you were pregnant, you lost your baby. You want twenty minutes of my time. Fine, sit down. You want to know all about my “death” and most importantly, how Mauricio sullied himself (se enlodó). Fine.

Oscar: Hey, folks. Missed me? I’m out here in the pitch dark (except for my car’s headlights), shoveling dirt on that scumbag lawyer. Yeah, I needed more room in my trunk, so he’s six feet under now. Yeah, I know his pesky little twisted, bloody hand is still sticking out, I’ll just cover it with some more dirt. Ah, the cellphone’s ringing. Good evening, Mauricio, aren’t you calling a little late? Aldo? Ah, you say he gave you his phone. Well, what’s up? Right, I said you could call anytime, but I’m a little busy now. What, you say you can’t sleep, you can’t relax? (Hmmm, I’ll just hold my hand over the phone and get into this ambulance. Yes, here’s Salvador, unconscious but alive, some tubes attached, and this EMT guy I hired says he’s stable now, he doesn’t have to go to the hospital). What’s that? You want your money, young man? Well, you’ll just have to be patient. Aldo? No, I can’t come tonight, a relative of mine had a heart attack and I can’t leave him alone. I’ll never leave him alone (I think I’ll stroke Sal’s forehead menacingly). Try to rest, Aldo, I promise I’ll call you tomorrow. Bye. Ah, Salvador, I see you’ve opened your eyes but can’t move. It seems your best friend’s son is returning to drugs. And you, you’re dying here. What a shame. Drugs kill, you know.

Isabel: Okay, we have a deal, Momia, but I don’t trust women like you. Ah, you don’t trust me, either, but you admire me? Why? The plan I devised (urdí) to fake my death. Well, circumstances can make one do all sorts of things. But I’ll comply with my part of the deal, I’ll be patient, but I assure you, you don’t want me as your enemy. I see she’s getting up, telling me good night. Well, good night, Momia. Oh, you say your name is Constanza, and it bugs you to hell (se revienta) when I call you Momia. Fine, I’ll keep that in mind. See you later. Momia.

DAYS LATER

Mauricio: Well, I’m sitting here in the office, and Gabi, looking nice in a black and white dress, she forgot I wanted the afternoon free, she seems preoccupied. She’s telling me she hasn’t been able to locate the lawyer or Salvador, she’s left lots of messages for Sal, and his cell is always off. She says she’s a bunch (manojo) of nerves, and when she’s nervous, she eats. In fact, yesterday, she ate a whole box of cookies. I’m telling her I called the director in Venezuela, the meetings have been fruitful (gotta get that food image in), so he must be there. She’s not convinced, tells me Ivan is waiting to see me. Okay, there she goes, taking four or five cookies I had conveniently sitting on my desk.

Oscar: Here I am at an outdoor café eating with Jerónimo, talking on the phone. Yes, the guy I set up in Venezuela is doing his job to make it look as if Sal is there. Good. Hah! Jerry’s so clueless, he’s happy that Sal’s “trip” took him out of the way, and he’s grateful we haven’t heard from that lawyer. If he only knew. What did I do to buy the lawyer’s silence? Everyone has his price, Jerónimo, the important thing is we’ll get the money to buy the vecindad. Jero’s telling me pretty soon we can knock down that tenement. But Jerry, Connie’s still sticking her nose in things wanting to “own” Moni’s neighborhood. So, Jerry, you’re impatient for your money? I’ll deal with Constanza, and you don’t need to know how. So split. Besides, I’m waiting to meet with someone, and your presence would not be good. So leave. Ah, there he goes. Of course, I’m stuck with the bill as usual.

Mauricio: Gee, when I was Ivan’s age, did I wear a navy blue shirt with white collar and cuffs, and a red tie? He really looks a little silly with that long black hair. Oh wait, he’s talking. I think he said he misses Luisa. Well, I’ll tell him to be patient. As soon as I get my divorce, he’ll have more time with Luisa. I’ll give him a nice pat on the shoulder, everything will be just fine with Luisa, you won’t lose her.

Coni: I was reading the script, and since Mauricio just said Ivan can’t lose Luisa, I’ll immediately cause just that to happen. I’m wearing a sleek blue grey high waisted summer dress, several necklaces, and I just happen to have dug up that musician boy Andrés, the one from Luisa’s school, who’s here with his acoustic guitar. Luisa, dear, look who’s here!

Andrés: I brought this guitar with me because it always gets the chicks. I’m also wearing my shirt open three buttons, so I can’t miss. Let’s try the sensitive approach. Um, why so sad, Luisa? I’ll pretend to be a good listener. She’s telling me she hates the Momia, and she and her sibs are suffering. I’m not really believing this, but I’ll play along. So Luisa, what about your novia, Ivan. He’s just a friend? (Yes!!) Well, Luisa, I know how to make all the hurt go away. I take my guitar, play a totally out of tune chord, and the actress playing Luisa actually keeps a straight face! Now THAT’s acting. Anyway, the sound man knows that although I can sing, I can’t play guitar worth crap, so they dub the guitar along with my voice, and I start my seductive song of luuuuuve. Lots of waking up, the sun, the morning, thinking of you (pensando en ti). Just to rub it in, I understand the director showed some shots of Ivan crying, recalling his kisses with Luisa, tough luck, bud! Ah, yes, Luisa’s perking up. I sure do love myself (whoops, I mean Luisa).

Oscar: I’m really getting bored sitting at this table. Ah, here comes my mystery guest, young Aldo. I’ll give him some cock and bull. Ah young man, I know what it’s like to grow up. My old man once locked me up in the basement for a week. So I understand your pain. You don’t have to live like that, with a dark gray vision of life. You need colors! (Did I really say that?). I slide a little baggie over towards him, filled with blue and white pills. I lean towards the dupe for effect, raise my eyebrows. With these pills, all your troubles will go away. Believe me. He takes the pills. Ah dear audience, you’ve just seen a master at work. I, Oscar, am the king of evil. Carlota on ENDA? Just a pretenda. Bruno on Sortilegio? Well, nothing rhymes with legio, but I’m badder. Believe me. Huuuuah! You can COUNT on it!

Previews: They ask “Who was that masked man?” I think he’s been wrestling with his identity for quite some time, but he’s a Tonto. I, Oscar, however, am tanto, tanto, tanto better than he ever was!

Vocabulario: I buried it throughout this recap, just like I did to that licensiado!

Plot of Hasta Que El Dinero Nos Separe (Until Money Separates Us) - English translation

Friends, we're in a predicament. The Gancho team is true to their show (yeah team!) and will follow it to its new afternoon time period. But this leaves us with a new novela in primetime with nobody to review it!!! This has never happened before. Curse you, Univision! So - does anybody want to step up and do even a sketchy job on this novela? Email me at jane@mappamundi.com. Thanks!

This title echoes the marriage ceremony closer "Until Death Do Us Part" - should we call it "Until money do us part?"

WARNING: I GOT A VERY UGLY WORM FROM THE UNIVISION SITE!
It took me 3.5 hours to get it off my computer! It's called "Internet Security 2010" so beware!!!

Anyway, on with the synopsis, translated from the Univision site:

This is the story of Rafael Medina, a very ?lighthearted? (alivianado) guy who almost does the impossible to live through the day: he sells all kinds of things, like perfumes, lingerie, wine, smuggled goods, everything. Altogether it's barely enough to support him, his mother Leonor, and his sister, whose college bills he's paying. He's always running against the clock and for that reason, sooner or later it was written that he'd have an accident. Just his bad luck, this mishap occurs with our leading lady, Alejandra Álvarez Del Castillo, an executive with an automobile dealership who's at the point of marrying Marco Valenzuela. And what's the result of this bad luck? Instant emnity.

That's how it goes, things happen, so Rafael has to confront them. His future is in Alejandra's hands. He'll fall prey to her lack of control and thirst for vengeance as she forces him to sell his life and mortgage his spirit in order to pay for his mistake.

In order to get out from under, it occurs to him to ask for help from the father of Vicky, a girl he's been with for some time. The problem is he wasn't in love with her, and the two brothers-in-law and the father-in-law have him in check all the time.

Doors close one after another and he can't see any other solution than to turn to that very same Alejandra. When he shows up, she thinks he's fooling with her and puts him in his place, but after analyzing the situation she decides to let him work off his debt. Rafael accepts the challenge and thus begins his ordeal.

After a few months of working together, united by previously unanticipated circumstances, they realize they've developed a mutual attraction and strong emotional dependence. Marco and Vicky try at all costs to keep their respective mates.

"Until money separates us" is a story emphasizing humor and love. There are no villains nor crimes, only misunderstandings that lead us into surprising situations. It's a telenovela with a parade of beautiful women and comical characters, giving it a fresh and innovative tone which is sure to captivate you.

Comments section for ENDA's Friday episode.

En Nombre del Amor, January 14, 2010

Eugenio, Gabriel and Luz chat. She suggests that she can show Eugenio her gratitude by finding him a girlfriend; she and Gabe laugh over Eugenio’s protests.

Lili convenes a meeting of the Lonely Hearts Club asks Paloma how to live apart from the one you love. Gabe comes in and wants to take Pal out. Emiliano enters with a bouquet of flowers and says not so fast, she’s coming with me. Pal takes offense to Emil deciding things for her--if she goes w/Gabe it’s because she wants to, not because she was pressured. So you’re going with him? Yes indeedy, Mr. Needy. Gabe goes outside to wait for Pal while she explains to Emil (with Lili still in the room) that wasn’t a question of love why they’re not together, it was the circumstances, which they can’t change. I want to keep living my life . . . You aren’t for me--that's a reality.

German and Romina run into each other on the street. Practically drooling, he notes that she got her figure back. He wants to start things up with her again and claims he’s about to hit the big time and thus will be able to give her the life of a queen. She starts to walk off and he grabs her and kisses her.

Emil pouts while Lili tries to convince him that since he’s with Romi--who's never going to leave him--it’s logical that Pal’s moving on. Lili is glad that Pal is not closing herself off to love. More pouting.

While still kissing Romina, Germs sees Carlota walking by so quickly pulls away and says he has to leave. Romi informs him that she won’t be his lover again because she doesn’t like cowards. Get lost for good. She tells him she has a better option elsewhere.

Eugenio asks his secretary to have Licenciado Martinez find out everything there is to know about the Espinosa family. She then tells him Madeleine Martelli called and dials her up for him. He and Madeleine are on a first-name basis and it has been awhile since they last talked. When he tells her that he’s in Real del Monte, she says what a coinky-dink, me too. She wants to meet with him right away.

Carlota arrives at the dispensario where Ines and another church lady are working. They look at Carlota weird because of how stuff came out at the trial and now Mac’s reputation is ruined. Carlota pretends to be sad and upset that she knew about Mac’s trampiness and had always tried to steer her down the right road, but didn’t succeed. You don’t know what I’ve suffered with Mac’s double life. And poor Paloma, boo-hoo-hoo, she who adored Mac like a saint.

Romi cries to Camila that her papa robbed her (i.e., cashed the check and didn’t buy the baby furniture). She’s upset that he robbed his own daughter, and that she defended him so much and went against Cami on his behalf. Cami is hurt that not only did he still Romi’s money, but he also stole her smile. Romi wants to see him and tell him what she feels; Cami declares it’s time for him to see that Romi’s not blinded by him anymore. Romi asks Cami to go with her and Cami agrees.

Samuel and Diana are playing cards. He starts working his con on Di, saying the business deal he was expecting is finally done. But the problem is that it will all be for naught if he can’t show that he has some property or put up a property as a guarantee, or something like that (my captions disappeared). He needs someone with a property who can act as a guarantor. Diana asks if her house will work. Yes, but don’t even offer, because I’m not going to accept--it’s not right. Di insists on helping him and suggests that 1) they don’t tell Emiliano & Rafael and 2) leave Real del Crazy and live together in his Mexico City apartment. He accepts and says he loves her, with all his soul.

At the hospital, Emil holds the baby while simultaneously looking tragic and thinking that he’ll continue to do everything to help his kid.

Gabriel takes Pal to the countryside to ride “motos” and he has come prepared with racing outfits, helmets, etc.

The doctor tells Emil that she’s happy with the baby’s development and that he’s responding well (despite Romi not wanting to breastfeed or visit the baby). And Emil and Pal visiting with the flute player was very good for all of the babies in the nursery.

Angelica asks Orlando if Miriam can stay with her for a few days, he says sure. He wants her to tell Dario that she’s not alone, she has friends that will help her unmask him. Angelica wants Dario to understand that he should respect her and the others that he plagiarized even if they don’t have anyone to defend them. Orly admires that Ange is fighting for what’s hers.

Romi and Cami confront Samuel in the hotel lobby. Romi accuses him of ripping her off and lying, etc. and says this is Cami’s business too because all the money Romi has is thanks to Cami. Cami had to be both father and mother to her at the same time. Sam tries to claim that he’s the only father there, but Romi declares that she doesn’t have a father anymore; he’s the opposite of everything she thought and she doesn’t want anything to do with him. After they leave he looks like he’s got steam coming out of his ears.

Montage of Gabe and Pal riding some type of all-terrain vehicles and having fun.

Emiliano mopes (natch) in his office. He tells Orlando “I lost her” and whines that he’s not her priority anymore, waa waaa waaaaa. In addition to being obtuse, Orly appears to suffer from the same forgetfulness that plagued Macarena (and still plagues Pal), because I think only a few hours have passed since he told Emil to follow his heart and stalk Paloma, but now when Emil laments that he and Pal are going their separate ways, he’s saying “oh well, maybe that’s what you have to do.” Emil says “I just want to make her happy, Papa”. Orlando can’t hear the rest of Emil’s tale of woe not because of the loud music, but because all he can think of is himself and that Emil just called him “dad.” He points it out to Emil, who didn’t realize he said it--he thinks maybe now that he has a baby, that makes it easier to understand Orly.

Madeleine tells Eugenio she’s worried about Cristobal, because he’s her son. Eugenio is impactado so she explains that she had him before she met Pierre (I got the feeling that Eugenio knows her through Pierre--maybe he worked with him?). Maddy is sure that Cris is innocent and thinks this case isn’t being managed well (ha!). Eugenio asks what if he’s guilty? She’s certain that her intuition isn’t wrong and doesn’t care if she has to spend all of her fortune to prove that her son is innocent. Eugenio cautions her that he hasn’t practiced in years, but she’s certain that if his son was in this situation he’d do the impossible to save him (hmm, foreshadowing, anyone?). She begs him to defend Cristobal and he agrees.

Cristobal tells German that he’s worried about Paloma and wants to see her so he can tell her everything--he needs to do this in order to have peace.

Eugenio doesn’t like injustices, so if this is what’s happening with Cris, he’ll do everything he can to help him. Maddy asks him not to tell Cris that she was the one who hired him to take the case. He tells her not to worry.

Romi and Cami are back at the shop--Romi asks for forgiveness. “I was so unfair with you. You’ve been the best mom in the world. You’re always going to be with me? You’re never going to leave me, right?” Camila promises they are always going to be together. And now they have Sammy to unite them (Romi says not “Sammy”, she doesn’t want to name him that now). Romi cries that it would be easier to be with the baby if Emiliano was there too; Cami tells her not to miss the incredible experience of being a mother. Romi asks her to come see the baby with her and they hug and cry and say they love each other.

More Mopey-ano, this time thinking back to the conversation with Pal at the beginning of the episode and wondering “why did you go with him?”

More Gabe and Pal riding ATVs.

Eric and German glare at each other in the office. When Carlota shows up, she and German go into his office--she wants to know why he didn’t tell her what happened in the trial. Oh, it didn’t occur to me. She reminds him that she’s paying him a lot of $$$, so he better be at her service. And don’t tutear me. But we kissed, Germs protests. It was a mistake, Carlota says. On her way out she tosses an envelope of money on his desk, which Germs then thumbs through while Eric scowls in the doorway. In addition to having no scruples, Germs apparently doesn’t have peripheral vision, because Eric stands there for some time before Germs notices he's there.

Out on the sidewalk, Carlota crazy talks about how the only one who can control her with just one kiss is Cristobal.

Romina goes to Emiliano’s office and cries about her dad robbing her. “He doesn’t love me,” she weeps.

Gabriel and Pal have a picnic. He says a bunch of stuff about how there’s more out there than what’s she’s lived in Real del Monte, there’s a whole world out there to discover, paint, etc., and the failure of one love isn’t the end of love altogether.

When Emil reminds Romi that her mom has always been there for her, she says but not the men--my father’s love wasn’t real and neither is yours. She asks Emil to love her and hug her so he kisses her on the forehead a couple times. She takes advantage of the moment to plant a big kiss on him.

Carlota comes home and yells at Rufi because Pal isn’t home yet. Rufi comments on how Pal must feel upon learning about Mac and Cris, and Carlota hopes that’s the only secret she finds out. Because if she finds out that Cris is her father--a man who’s a sinner, blahblahblah--I don’t want to imagine how that will affect her.

Emil's phone rings so he breaks off the kiss. He says he shouldn’t have kissed her, he got carried away because of her emotional state. Romi says this kiss could be a new start for them, but Emil repeats that he doesn’t love her. She insists that she wants to start over, and that includes “you and my baby. Thank you for that kiss--it was unforgettable.” Dun Dun DUNNNN!!!!! Be sure to join us for our next episode, Emiliano Jones and The Look of Doom.

Gancho Thursday 1/14/10 - This looks like a job for Supermonkey!!

Carlos, I couldn't resist transforming your comment into tonight's title. I hope you don't mind. Anyway, my other ideas were in extremely poor taste so this was my only hope.

Folks, it was a tough night tonight in Gancholand, maybe the worst ever. A good thing happened, and then there was all the other stuff...

We start with wash day in the barrio, Ivan's not doing it right, etc. Then we move to a scene that sends a chill into any woman's heart, hell I'm sure it sends a chill into most men's hearts too. Estrella is being held down by two strong lads who want to have a "little fun" with her. They didn't come to this sewer (cloaca) for nothin' and they want somethin'. Monita, at the wash basin with Ivan, doesn't take Estre's cries for help seriously but finally, "Ahi voy, I'm coming!" Monita sets down the wash and runs into Estre's house.

Hooray Super Monita! The stupid baboons think she's come to join the fun, "Fresh meat!" they say, but our strong little monkey pulls the schoolboys off of her friend and schools them right proper. A few punches to their faces and stomachs sets them packing. As they run away whining for mommy Aldo rushes in wondering what in the heck his "pals" are doing there.

Estre sobs to Aldo that this is what his bragging to the whole school has led to, his friends thing she's a slut (golfa) and they tried to rape her.

Over at Grupo Sermeño Gabi and Sal are thrilled for Mau. Gabi blabs a mile a minute that she's so happy Mau and Moni have resolved their differences. She's sure her romance and love with Salvador are contagious and soon everyone will catch it. Poor Sal can't seem to get a word in but no matter, Gabi is saying it all. Mau tells them his divorce with Coni is war but he'll win. He says nobody and nothing will come between him and Valentina. Oh dear...anvil time. But at least Gabi and Sal are happy at last. Right? Right?

Estrella, who was unable to defend herself against the wannabe rapists, now uses her strength to lash out against Aldo. Because he bragged about her intimate life they now have nothing to talk about. "Largate!" she screams! Of all the ways to tell someone to beat it in Telenovelalandia "largate" seems to be the worst. Aldo tearfully tries to explain but Estrella is on her own tear. She yells at Moni to throw the kid out (sácalo) and Moni finally convinces him to leave. Estre screams "Largate!!! I'm not pregnant with your baby!" as she pushes him out and slams the door shut. She cries on Moni's shoulder that she thought he was grown up but he's just an immature brat (escuincle). This was a tough scene where nobody came out a winner. However it could have gone much worse for our Estrella so let's be thankful for that.

Back at GS it's revealed that Sal plans to travel to Venezuela tomorrow for business. Tonight even simple facts like this seem sinister. Gabi butts in and starts yacking again, this time about their suspicions of Jeronimo and Oscar's shady dealings. Sal thinks Gabi talks too much and should come up for air. Then when she tries to add her two pesos worth about Jero he tells her to shut it, he knows just a little more about business than she does. (Then why did you sign Jero's contract Sal? And when did you become suspicious? Oh yeah, it was AFTER Gabi expressed her suspicions.) Sal tells Mau he's suspicious of Jero and Oski's great deal (ganga). Yes, he signed their documents but he arranged it so they can't have any money until after Licenciado Araujo investigates and reports back this afternoon.

Gabi stops Pau on her way out and asks her to deliver her wedding invitations, or maybe bachelor party invites, to all her pals in the hood. Pau is envious and bummed cuz Chris avoids marriage talk. Gabi tells her to have confidence in herself. Pau also speaks a decent "Very good thank you" in English as evidence her classes in English are working. She talks about being promoted to secretary to the president but Gabi gently smacks her back down to recepcionista. Anything but the janitorial closet should do.

Jero and Oski, fresh from their failed visit to the bank, question Sal about the lack of funding, what's the problem, does Sal need more details (pormenores)? Sal says the answer is easy, he doesn't trust them. He needs to investigate. If everything is OK then tomorrow the bank will release the money, BUT if not watch out.

Oski runs after Sal with a letter opener but of course Sal is gone. They sit down and try to figure out what to do next. This is a problem, if Sal and Mau discover the deal is Monita's neighorhood there will be hell to pay and millions are at stake.

Speaking of the hood, Beto comes home to find his ma getting ready to go to Gabi's despedida. I think she means bachelor party (despedida soltera). She's still got her baby bottle earrings on and is fishing for compliments on her getup. Mau joins them and Nieves leaves the men alone. Beto sits down to tell Mau his problem...

Gabi and Sal again? They sure are getting a lot of screen time tonight. She makes a point of saying she won't see him later that night because it's her bachelor party. Again, an innocent statement that sounds sinister.

Beto tells Mau that Coni has asked him to help find proof that Mau is Furia Enmascarada. As if that's not bad enough he has other news. Beto asks Mau did he know that Monita's mom is alive? Cara impactada de Mauricio.

Mau asks Beto why does he think Moni's ma is alive? Beto says Constancia saw and told him. In fact she bumped right into her. (Hah, nice choice of words, little does he know.) Beto is supicious of our dim hero's reaction and immediately suspects Mau already knew. I think hanging out with Coni is making Beto smarter or maybe just suspicious because he reasons that Mau must have helped Isabel. Beto wants to know how Mau could hide this and Mau wants to know how much Coni knows.

Again with the Gabi and Sal. They're out to dinner making goo goo eyes and discussing their wedding. Sal apologizes for wasting so much time and Gabi says no importa they have forever ahead of them. Oh no, oh yes, oh crap! He tells her that he leaves early in the morning so don't worry about him; he calls her the future Mrs. Ulloa, his savior (salvador) and the love of his life. Clearly they are doomed as evidenced by their perfect happiness.

Beto refuses to listen to Mau because Mau knew! He knew how Moni felt and said nothing? Mau explains that Isabel had him in her hands. Isa hates Monita and he felt it would be better if Moni thought her mother were dead than if she knew her mother was alive and hated her. Mau gets a bad pain in his stomach and Beto asks him if he needs to take a dump (dar portaza a la rata, we've seen this before). Like I said before, I don't write it I just translate it. If Mau were a female he would surely be pregnant, but he's not so what new diabolical plot line to our writers have in store for us? Anyway, Mau tell Beto that they have to work together to keep Monita from finding out.

Back at Grupo Sermeño Sal tells Gabi not to do anything crazy and she happily and ignorantly leaves after a brief PDA. Licenciado Arauja is there and confirms Sal's, supicions, the plans are false and the property is a neighborhood with families. The pics those slimeballs showed Sal were of another property. He hands Sal the real pictures and, oddly, Sal has a black and white flashback of this very colorful neighborhood. In his colorless recollection Gabi comments what a lovely neighborhood it is and what friendly people live there.

If any of you readers imbibe now would be a good time to pour yourself a stiff one. Be it wine, whiskey, tea or anything else, get it now.

Oski, waiting in front of the building, answers his phone. It's Jeronimo who is bugging him every five minutes. Oski tells Jero that the licenciado is inside with Sal and surely they will figure out the the property is Monita's neighborhood then this plan will be their downfall (nuestra derrota). Oski insists he will find a way to make sure Sal isn't a hindrance to them. Suddenly Oski sees Isabel walk into the building. I guess he recognizes her.

Licenciado Araujo leaves and as the elevator doors open Isabel walks in asking for Mauricio. She says she is Isabel lopez, the mother of Valentina. She tells Sal she is more alive than ever and Mauricio knows it. Witch.

Outside, Oski pays off Araujo's taxi driver to leave. He sees Araujo, says sorry your taxi had to leave and can he give him a ride? Clearly Oski's slimy reputation precedes him because Araujo refuses. Oski says they need to talk so Arauja had better join him for better or worse. Araujo refuses because Oski and Jero are slime and he suggests Oski get himself a good lawyer. Holy Crap, as Araujo walks away Oski grabs him and smashes his head against the wall once, twice, thrice. "Nobody's going to get me!" yells Oski. Araujo crumples leaving a smear of blood on the wall. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot????

Sal tells Isa he's Mau's confidante. Why is her business with Mau so mysterious? He can only imagine it's nothing good. Sal presses until Isa answers that she and Mau had a contract...and he helped her fake her death. Satisfied?

Mau tells Beto that Isa isn't a good person, she hates Monita. Beto asks then why did she come around asking forgiveness? Because she was very sick and needed a marrow (medula) transplant from her own daughter. Beto thinks this sounds like a friggin' telenovela what with the MEDUSA transplant and all. (Good malapropism there Beto.) Mau tells Beto that he fooled Monita for her own good. Isa is cold blooded and Moni can't know her mother is alive.

Oski roughly throws the limp Licenciado in his trunk. He sees Coni drive up and hides behind his car, the little rat.

Sal has a hard time wrapping his head around Isa's comment. He starts rubbing his arm and heart; Sal's heart attack is pretty much right on cue. Isa doesn't notice, she leaves her number with Sal to give Mau. Meanwhile Sal is losing feeling in his left hand. He tries to follow Isabel while rubbing his left arm and accuses her of only coming for more money. If that's what it's about just tell him how much she wants. Naturally Coni walks in and overhears. Oddly neither of the women notice Sal is having a serious attack. Are they blind? Isa tells Sal that Mau has 24 hours to contact her. She has ice for blood and does a great job of ignoring Coni.

Isa leaves and Sal grabs Coni to prevent her from following. Coni pushes him away and she starts to leave too. By this time Sal can hardly stand, he tries to call Mau and gets weepy Aldo. Where's your dad?

Poor Aldo is still sobbing over Estre. Sal wants Mau's number and writes it down. Of course evil Coni listens and snatches the phone away and eats the number. Hey, shouldn't she be over her food cravings by now?

More Mau and Beto with Mau asking Beto not to judge him before he knows all the truth. Mau flashes back to the creepy scene where Isa explains she loathes Monita because will always remind Isa of the horrible thing that happened to her. Monita is the product of that violation. Isa gives her word that if Mau helps Isa then Isa will never come back. After the operation she'll disappear. The scene goes on MUCH longer but we get the point. Mau tells Beto that's the only reason he agreed to help, so that Monita would never know how her mother really felt about her.

Sal is clearly having a heart attack (or stroke?) and now Oski walks in to further agitate our Sal. Stupid Sal, instead of sitting, continues to scream at Oscar and tells him he'll see him and Jero in jail. Finally Coni looks concerned and asks him to calm down. Of all the dumb things, Sal decides to give Oski a punch. Of course Oski starts beating Sal. Coni tries to call for help but Oski grabs the phone out of her hand as Sal falls to the floor. Coni runs to Sal, quickly runs through her litany of excuses and concludes with "Forgive me Salvador, forgive me!"

Sigh...end of episode.

On a brighter note, I spoke to Schoolmarm Jeanne a couple of days ago and she learned a couple of new dichos that I'll share with you:

Yo no soy uno por poner un alacrán en la espalda = Can't pull one over on me, I'll keep a close eye on the situation (I'm not someone to put a scorpion on my back)

La persona no ha nacido que puede contar mis muelas = The person hasn't been born who can put one over on me. (The person hasn't been born who can count my molars)

MJ gets kidnapped.

Un Gancho - wed Jan 13 - a baby gone, a baby finds his daddy, and is it a baby ? Oh Baby!!

OK so I missed the first 25 minutes of this on the tele, but downloaded it. From reading the Doc’s hysterical Mon recap and the Judester's similarly hilarious recap on Tues it seems the downloads are slightly ahead of Univision. Well anyway, here goes…

My episode opened with Conster confronting the Mamonster (Mona’s that is) saying no way are you here - you should be dead. Doh!

Of course we immediately then switch to the Mama to beat all Mamas, she who nursed her son of 8 years, chatting with said son. She agrees to support the whole family thing, only for her grandson, but that damned flauta just irritates her. We get to the point. Beto wants to know who his papa is. He insists he has the right to know where his cravings for Milanesa etc come from. Nieves outs with el Pepillo. He is your pa, see you look exactly like him. Beto is impactado. Yeah, me too. Que the heck??

We go back to witch vs. bitch where Issy is telling Coni she’s mistaken. She runs off, Coni fronts the very nice Mercedes demanding to speak to her, and WOW Issy puts it in gear and rolls off knocking our pregger Coni to the ground. She screams of pain.

Beto muses the finer points of having a famous papa. He begs her to tell the truth. She doesn’t quite make a serious face when she swears to him it’s true. She grabs the baby doll and tells him they met in Acapulco, her sunning on the sand, and he came up to her. She outta be in pictures. He invited her to his hotel for a private casting…hum hum hum. She acts out how she ended up in his bed. Beto isn’t sure he needs these details. She never told him before because she was ashamed. He is excited his dad is a luminary.

Mau runs around the race track a bit.

Coni is in the hospital, she’s scared she’ll lose her baby. Ma consoles her. Doc shows up, it’s one of our favorite old guys. He confirms Coni loses her baby. Wow, didn’t see that coming I must admit.

Nieves and Cesar are chatting, he tries to cheer her up, she’s a bit blue. Beto shows up and wants her to look at his ear, that it’s the same as his Pa’s. He wants to go see his Papi, of course Nieves freaks out at this. She wonders how she is going to tell him this factoid. She does quite a dance to get him to give up this idea. He won’t, he has waited his whole life to call him “Papillo” JA!!JA!!

Nieves now wonders what she’ll do about this lie.

Back to the hospital and doc apologizes and leaves. Coni cries and wonders why this affects her so much. Ma tries to tell her she loves this man despite her saying he’s a naco. Coni thinks a little more and changes her tune, so maybe now this is the best thing that happened to her. She wants to know why that woman hid her death.

Next we see Alicia and Mona bringing flowers to said woman’s tomb. They chat silliness about silence and how Issy loved it for hours etc. They cry about missing her. Fools, TURN AROUND!!!! She’s right effin’ there. Oh for Pete’s sake…

Mau and Beto chat about who Beto’s Pa is. He won’t say, but he’s happy he knows. They also chat about how he knows that Mona knows he’s the Furia. They have a male moment when Beto finally maturely admits he and Mona care about each other, but like siblings. They also talk about how Coni should not know he’s the Furia until the divorce is final. Beto explains how he covered and Coni believed.

Uh oh, bad idea when school girls in skirts do bad pranks. Katia is bugging Aldo because he has seemed preoccupied lately. Uh, I’d say so. She keeps sweet talking him and finally he asks her for a favor, to take his sisters home from school because he has something important to do. She agrees but doesn’t like that he’s going to be with his girlfriend. We find out how much she dislikes this later...

The fighting group Cesar, Beto, and Furia discuss how Furia has to stay masked at least until the divorce. Cesar proposes they fight as a team, the Furia and the Vengador. Beto thinks this is a way he can tell the world who is his Pa, and that he will be as famous as him!! Mau reluctantly agrees to the fight despite him being worried he'll be found out.

Goofy guys attack Aldo and tell him to come over with Estre, that their parents are going to be gone. Aldo says he’s busy and doesn’t want to go with them, or even borrow their car. They goof around a bit when Katia comes up and spills the prank. She tells them : Aldo pays to sleep with Estre, she’s a street woman pure and simple. Oh and she knows where Estre lives. Oh bad school girl. Guess the evil gene runs thick in their DNA. Sigh.

Aldo goes to see Estre. He wants to know if she went to the farmacia. Of course she didn’t, she fears the whole barrio will learn if they go to the pharmacy around the corner. He offers to go far away for her and to come back. He’ll be with her no matter what happens with the results. He leaves, there is another knock and it’s our hormone overloaded teen boys looking for some trouble. Yikes.

Beto shows up at Coni’s all excited still from the news of his Pa. He tells he now knows who his Pa is and he’s famous etc. She isn’t sure Nieves is telling the truth. He notes she’s sad, but she doesn’t fess up. He then talks about what he learned from Mona that he has to let go of his past like she did with her Ma who died in peace. Coni tells him uh uh, wait a minute, that woman ain’t dead. He thinks she’s on crack.

Flash back to our over juiced juveniles pushing Estre to give it up - that they have heard so much about her so they want some too. She fights back, but they are two against one, and thinking with their other heads. Me thinks she will have a tough time of it. They brought money.

Coni insists she was face to face with Mona Ma. Beto says they were all in the hospital when she left this earth. She swears she saw her this close.

Estre is losing the battle. They keep throwing her on the bed.

Coni wonders who might have helped her, she thinks maybe it was Mau, he came with the ashes and no one ever saw the body. She starts piecing it together that one needs money to fake a death and so there must be something up. This could be something Mau is keeping from Mona and she likes the sound of that. Beto starts to come around to the idea, and Coni thinks maybe Alicia knows something, but she acts like she doesn’t. She sends him to see what he can recon about this. Please. He says goodbye to his now non-existent babe. Coni sort of tears in silence.

At the barrio, Ivan is with Tere who complains how he is washing his clothes. They chat about missing the kids. Ali and Mona walk up. Ali offers to help Tere unpack her things. Mona tells Ivan about going to visit the tomb.

And we are back to the boys holding down Estrella. She rips up their money and screams she is not a prostitute. They are not swayed, they are there to become men. Estre screams for Monita. And we end there. Hopefully something will interrupt this. Yuck.

Ale is asking Victoria what is wrong? Are you sad? Victoria tells him how she visited Rachel and Rachel is not interested in the baby and is obsessed with the useless Useless. Ale tells her to have patience. Ale asks about Fernando and Victoria says he is young and deserves to have children. Ale tells her she should listen to her heart. Vitoria cries.

Maura is talking to Bruno. Maura says she is nervous. Bruno says to have a drink a settle down. Maura tells Bruno she is going to get keys to the house at 4:30. Bruno wants to know the location and he tells her to make sure that Ale doesn't go with. He sets the time for 5:00.

Bruno calls Jorge and finalizes plans.

Detective is questioning Hernan about the stabbing going over everything they told him. Hernan is acting nervous. the detective hints that perhaps there are clues on the Lombardo casa's grounds that would help them wrap up this case. The detective says he will be in contact. Hernan calls the house and asks EZ to have Ale get a hold of him.

EZ calls Mari to track down Ale.

Paula is working on school stuff. Roberto talks to her about getting custody of the baby. She wants to go with him but he says no, finish your homework and this afternoon he will have custody. Paula is exicited. Roberto kisses her cheek and Paula really felt that kiss.

Ale gets out of his meetings and Mari passes on the message to get a hold of Hernan. Hernan tells Ale about the detective asking questions so he just wants to take precautions. He thinks they are going to look around the house etc. Hernan asks where the knife is. Ale says in the garden. Hernan tells him that is not a good place for it.

Ale calls EZ to tell him they have to get rid of the knife again.

Maura comes to get MJ to see this great house. MJ says she would like to go with Ale. Felipe helps talk her into it. NO MJ Don't go!!!!!!!!! People, woman especially follow your instincts.

Bruno watching Maura and MJ leave calls Jorge who is 10 minutes away by helicopter.

EZ is digging in the garden and digs up the knife. EZ trys to hide it behind his back. He sneaks it into Ales car as the police come to search the place.

Ale is driving the car looking for the knife as he drives when he gets the bejeezas scared out of him when EZ pops up out of the back seat. Ale does not want to get him in trouble. EZ says he could not stay and be questioned by the police. They drive looking for a place to hide the knife that has come back to stab them.

The detective tells Victoria that Ale knows that they are searching the grounds and house.

EZ and Ale find a place to bury the knife and are digging when the police drive up. Busted! Ale tries to hide EZ.

The police have them surrounded them, guns drawn and EZ finally gets the courage to try to get to Ale, but he trips and is caught. Ale turns himself in. Nice buns as Ale puts his hands on the wall.

Back in the garden they have found the hole where the knife was.

Ale and EZ in handcuffs are taken to the police station. Ale says he wants to talk to his lawyer.

Maura and MJ get to the house. You would think that Maura was Realtor of the year the way she is selling this house.

Ale and EZ are in Jail. EZ offers himself up but Ale says no. They are going to find out Rachel used the knife and then they will accuse them of a cover up. Ale yells cause he wants to call his lawyer.

Black SUV comes to the house. Jorge with a needle and men wearing masks enter the house. The men grab MJ and Jorge injects her. Some guy wacks Maura and she is knocked out. They load up MJ and leave.

ENDA, January 13, 2010

Orlando tries to reassure Natalia that everything will work out. Then of course turns it around to him and how he needs her at the wedding when he marries Camila. Good ol' Orlando. Ends up talking about himself. Natalia asks him to get Ivonne to come to see her.

Paloma is at the hospital visiting the baby. Emiliano and some weird dude with flutes named Alejandro come up and Emiliano invites Paloma to accompany them to see the baby. Alejandro plays the flute for the baby. Mega baby is actually not annoyed at this. Emiliano tells Paloma that babies react well when music is playing. So the flute playing is actually soothing the baby? Most people would play something a little bit more calming. Like Mozart, Beethoven or any other classical pianist. Cute baby though. Paloma tells Emiliano that she imagined that he would be a great dad, but didn't realize how amazing he is. Emiliano says that the love she is showing his child shows him how much she will show with her own. He then looks sad and when questioned by Paloma he says that would mean she would have a child with another.

German visits PJC and he tells him it's time. PJC without the P begs German to help Natalia if he can only save one.

Angelica is on the phone with Dario and plays nice. She wants him to come and read the summary she wrote for the book. (the part in the back of the book that explains what the story is about. don't know the right word) At first he refuses, but with a little more persuasion from Angelica he relents.

Madeleine, PJC's mom, drops off a box at the church that explains the past. In case he ever wants to know. Padre Mateo? asks why he left PJC. She says that even though she was born here most of her family lived in France. She spent a lot of time there studying dance. On one of her vacations here she met PJC's dad. She ended up pregnant, but didn't want to renounce her career path. I felt I had no other way out and decided that my career came first. That's why I left him with his dad.

Camila tries to warn Diana about Samuel. Diana of course doesn't want to hear it. Fine replies Camila. I tried to warn you. My hands are washed.

Padre Benito asks Madeleine if she knew that PJC's dad was an alcoholic and died of liver disease. She admits that she knew it all and read the Mexican papers daily in hopes of finding out something about him. God blessed me by keeping me alive so that I can ask him for forgiveness.

PJC and Natalia are being lead to the courthouse for the trial. Crowds outside yelling.

Diana is helping Romina put on a girdle while telling her that once you have a child your figure looks horrible. Good job Diana. Romina wants to look sexy again for Emiliano. Diana tells her not to put it on to tight or it can cut off her milk. Romina gets a sparkle in her eyes when hearing this. Diana says she wants to be close to the baby, Emiliano and her. So don't push me away. She apologizes to Romina on her bad attitude at the hospital. Romina reminds Diana that she has a bad relationship right now with her son and that complicates things. Diana asks for her help and Romina says she'll try, but he doesn't want her or Samuel near the baby. Why asks Diana. I don't know replies Romina. Perhaps because he rubs Emiliano the wrong way. Diana asks how she feels about Samuel. I love him dearly responds Romina. Diana promises to help her with the Samuel situation if she helps her with Emiliano.

Camila goes wedding dress shopping. She gets a call from Orlando. He tells her he's about to enter the courtroom.

Packed courthouse. Natalia and PJC are escorted in. Dr. Bermudez, Rufi, Paloma and Gabriel are watching from the sidelines. A man yells out "assassino!" Crowd in an uproar. Bailiff yells out silence. PJC and Natalia have decided to keep German as their attorney. The judge asks for their plea. Both say not guilty. The prosecutor calls PJC to the stand or stool. He's sworn in.

P: Is it true that 9 years ago you were engaged to be married to Natalia?
PJC: Yes
P: Then why did you decide not to marry her?
PJC: I didn't feel right taking the next step with her. I realized I did not love her the way she should have been loved.
P: Also because you felt guilty over a suicide.
G: Objection!
P: Is it or isn't it true that you told Natalia you were feeling guilty over a death?
PJC: An emotional death. I believed that a woman had committed suicide because of me. For many years I felt guilty until I found out that it was a lie and she was still alive.
P: And who was that person?
PJC: I don't think it's really necessary for me to mention that person's name in this hearing. That person is now dead.
P: It is really important for you to tell us the name of that person.
PJC: That person was Macarena Espinosa de los Monteros. And the person who made me believe that she was dead for all those years was her sister. Carlota Espinosa de los Monteros. (Paloma jaw dropping impactada)

Carloca pours herself some wine and wishes she could be at the trial. She wants everything to come out the way she wants it too.

Luz is walking around and buys an ice cream. She gives one to a little girl. Luz asks the little girl what her name is. The mother of the little girl scowls her for talking to strangers.

Rufi tells Paloma that it is probably best they leave. Paloma says no. I am finding out things that no one wanted to tell me. It's time to know the whole truth. Rufi thinks it will be too painful. German protests the line of questioning. The judge overrules.

P: Is it or isn't it true that you were going to leave Real de Monte with Macarena?
PJC: Yes. Macarena and I were going to leave to get married. Her family would not accept me. We both loved each other very much.

Paloma asks Rufi if she knew this. Rufi just hangs her head. Paloma leaves. Emiliano follows. German asks the judge if he can have a recess to talk to his client. Dr. Bermudez asks Rufi if PJC was the man that Macarena talked about. Rufi says not to ask her any questions.

Paloma is outside the courtroom crying. Emiliano asks if she's okay. Paloma says she's confused. Emiliano says you probably should not have come. No, it' best I did replies Paloma.

Rafael gets a call from a European company interested in importing his ceramics.

Gabriel informs Paloma that the trial has been postponed till tomorrow. Rufi tries to talk to Paloma, but she turns her back on her. Gabriel asks if she wants him to take her home. Yes, replies Paloma. I no longer want to be here. Everyone has lied to me and storms off. Rufi asks Gabriel not to leave her alone. Rufi is worried that Paloma no longer loves her, but Emiliano reassures her that Paloma does. Rufi wanted the truth to come out, but was afraid of Paloma's reaction.

German goes into the room where PJC is being held and asks him why PJC never told him about his relationship with Macarena. PJC felt that it was irrelevant to the case. It was a secret. German says it is important. It makes you look dirty. You were married to god and here you are with a woman. PJC says that was before I became a priest. German tells him that all this stuff that has come out has complicated things. If you keep hiding secrets then it will be difficult to win.

Gabriel walks Paloma home.

Carloca wants to know what happened at the trial. Paloma asks why she never told her that PJC and Macarena were in love. Carloca says it was a delicate situation. You put PJC on a pedestal and Macarena never wanted to tell you. Then why didn't you asks Paloma. Because I did not want to cause you any more heartache replies Carloca. Paloma recalls the day PJC found out Macarena was not dead from her. Carloca says the only reason I told you about your dad was because you kept insisting. So I hope you realize why I kept quiet about this. You and PJC thought that Macarena was a saint. More talking and Paloma comes to a conclusion. Could that mean that PJC is my dad?

Rafael tells Luz the good news. Luz wants to celebrate. Rafael says she can ask him for whatever she wants so that he can show her this thanks. Luz mentions meeting a girl today and suddenly realizes that it is the drawing that Gabriel did. She wants Rafael to help her find the little girl. Why asks Rafael. I don't know. I just feel something every special for her.

Carloca tells Paloma to calm down. Your mind is wandering. Do you want the truth asks Carloca. That is all I've ever wanted replies Paloma. Carloca tells her that Macarena was already pregnant with her when she met PJC. Macarena was going to make PJC believe she was his. That can't be replies Paloma. What else happened? Carloca begged Macarena not to lie. It just wasn't right. So that is how the hatred between your mother and I started. You have no idea how hard it has been for me to keep this all a secret. Forgive me for not telling you the whole truth. I was scared of your reaction. You have suffered enough. Please understand me. Forgive me. They hug and Rufi comes in looking confused.

Paloma gets a call from the baby furniture store saying that there is no order for her. Romina crying says my dad assured me it was done. Then thinks that perhaps she called the wrong store. Emiliano comes home and asks her what's wrong. Nothing replies Romina. Then she tells him that her dad cashed the check, but never bought the baby furniture. I think he robbed me. His own daughter. Romina cries and Emiliano comforts her.

Camila tells Orlando that she went to see Diana to warn her. Orlando thinks that she shouldn't have gone. It's best to leave it alone. Camila asks about PJC. Orlando is scared that he will be in prison for the rest of his life.

Dr. Bermudez tells Ivonne that he never thought PJC was the love of Macarena's life. Ivonne says that when they were in love, he was not yet a priest. What's the problem? Dr. Bermudez says that Macarena confided in him that the man she loved had died. But when PJC came to Real de Monte she never told me. Then a thought enters his head. Can PJC be Paloma's father? He vows to protect Paloma like he promised Macarena.

PJC asks Macarena for forgiveness in letting out their secret.

Carloca is in her room happy. Now everyone will know what a hoochie Macarena was. My plans are coming out exactly like I wanted them too. Even better. How good revenge tastes.

Luz tells Gabriel and his dad about meeting the girl in the picture.

Orlando asks Emiliano how Paloma is doing. Not good replies Emiliano. Orlando encourages Emiliano to go to her because she may need comforting.

Liliana asks Paloma how she can be okay without Emiliano. She's having a hard time with Erik. Paloma says it's hard, but I want him to have a good life. What about Gabriel asks Liliana. Gabriel is different replies Paloma. With him I feel free. Liliana tells her to be happy with what life is offering her. What life is offering me is turning 18 next month replies Paloma. Then I can leave Real de Monte. Then I will never see Carloca, Emiliano or Gabriel. Of course Gabriel walks in at that moment. Liliana calls Paloma who turns around to see Gabriel. He tells Paloma that he wants to take her out and make her forget about what happened yesterday. He's been worried. Just then Emiliano walks in and says no. Paloma will be coming with me.

Manana: Inez tells Carloca that Macarena's rep it torn into pieces; PJC tells German that he wants to talk to Paloma to tell her everything; Who will Paloma choose to go with?

ENDA Tuesday January 12. The kiss of death for Germán’s soul?

Stuff we just haven’t had enough of: In the prison yard, Thugly and Snidekick decide to pound some guilt into Cris’s innocent face. Chucho gets sucked into the melee. The guards break it up and send Cris off to see his visitor, whether he wants to go or not (he does not).

And his instincts are right on, as his visitor is none other than Crueloca, the Heifer from Hell, decked out in a cow-print blouse. She claims she knows everything, then instantly refutes that by asking whether Madeleine Martell is another of his conquests. The Crazy Cow offers Cris one last-chance Get Out of Jail Free card, at the low, low price of spending his life making sweet, sweet lurve to her. He’d rather rot in prison. This was not a chapter in He’s Just Not That Into You*, so of course she may still think he’s into her. Playing hard to get, doncha know? She throws a fit, and Cris finally escapes to the relative peace and luxury of the prison yard.

New stuff: Germán tries to give Eric orders in the office. Eric is having none of it, because Germs does not outrank him. Not for long, says Germy. Eric threatens to break Germy’s face if he doesn’t give it up. Germy says he’s just jealous because Liliana would come running if he snapped his fingers. Snap all you want; we’re splitsville, says Eric. He also thinks it’s pathetic that Germy thinks racking up more notches makes him more manly. Honestly, these two have one of the most passionate and long-lasting relationships on this show, next to Cruel and Cris.

Licenciado Cordero’s secretary or paralegal or whoever asks him whether he really thinks the priest is guilty. He says what he thinks doesn’t matter; people say he’s guilty, and this is his job. He just needs a little more proof to be sure. He finds the envelope which appeared while they were out, marked all over with “Confidential” and “Regarding the Case of Padre Juan Cristóbal” and whatnot. He puts it aside to look at later, and gets back to his files. Cats (unlike puppies and birds) must live long, long lives in Real del Monte, because there is like NO curiosity in the entire pueblo.

Germán interrogates Rufi about the value of Misery Manor and the gentlemen callers of Carlota and Paloma. Rufi clearly wishes there were knockout drops in the coffee she’s serving him, but fortunately Carloca shows up to meet with him and Rufi is spared further temptation to wring his neck. In Carloca’s office, she tells him she wants him to take Cris down. He wants the prestige that would come from winning the case. She tells him he can gain prestige in other cases, but she will pay him well to lose this one. He just needs to find someone who will claim to have witnessed Alonso being run over by the truck, Carlota suggests, as she slowly strolls around Germy and checks out his rump (yes, really). Well, Germs is not totally asleep on the job. “How do you know he was run over by a truck?” he asks, looking at her sharply.

Paloma goes to Gabriel’s studio and shows him the painting she’s been working on. He says it is amazing (it is bad). It’s just like the painting he was doing (also bad)!

{Everyone get your barf buckets ready at this point.}

So Carloca says she heard from someone about the truck. Small town, you know. He pretends to accept that. She makes him sit down about two millimeters in front of her, and gets right in his face and says she wants him to court Paloma. He’s surprised. He always thought Carloca was serious, recatada (circumspect, modest), but as he gets to know her, he marvels, and thinks she is just the most beautiful woman in the whole house! (Way to not overstate the case, Germs). Well, given that Carloca can take “I hate you and want nothing to do with you, EVER” as a “maybe” you can imagine how she reacts to that. She plants a big, gropy, tonsil-tango smooch on him. Does he get into it? Oh yes, he does.

One of Diana’s poker friends, also apparently a friend of Camila, goes to Camila’s shop and confesses to her that she is in big trouble, having lost a lot of money playing poker. She explains about Samuel playing. Camila is shocked to hear that Samuel and Diana are…something we’d rather not think about.

Over at the Anguished Artists’ Mutual Admiration Society meeting, Gabriel tells Paloma he has not come to Real del Monte in vain; she is exactly what he’s been looking for. “Huh?” she responds. “Never mind, just understand that everything I have will be yours.” She doesn’t appear to understand that much better, but Emiliano calls just then to invite her to come with him to visit the baby. Gabriel glares jealously at the phone.

Angélica wonders what Emiliano’s up to. He says the baby needs affection to thrive, and Romina can’t or won’t give it. Ange agrees it’s good for the baby to have Paloma around, but says it is not good for Emiliano. He needs to leave her alone to avoid temptation and let her move on with her life.

La Loca and Germs are still madly making out. His jacket is off and his shirt unbuttoned. “Tell me you love me, Cristóbal!” she pants. Screeeeech. Germy pulls away, everything suddenly clear. When he starts accusing Carloca, she shrieks at him to leave. He flees. She trashes her desk and yells “Te odio, Cristóbal!” over and over. Out in the hall, Rufi looks alarmed.

Cris tells Orlando he wants to find a way to make Carlota tell the truth and show what she’s really like. Orly, always one to dismiss the problems of others, says probably everything will work out in the trial. Cris gives Orlando a letter to give to Natalia. Supposing Cris is out of prison in a few days, says Orly, does he think he’ll get together with Natalia? “What is wrong with you?” says Cris’s expression. “Well, why not? You’re no longer a priest, Macarena is gone, and Natalia is a widow. You could start over and have a family,” says Orlando. Cris looks thoughtful.

Paloma tells Gabriel she’s finished the sketch she’s been working on. “Great; see you next class,” Gabriel snottily replies, not really looking up from the Virgen painting he’s restoring. “Don’t you want to look at it?” No, he doesn’t. She’s dismissed. Paloma is not to be gotten rid of so easily, she’s hurt and confused and asks him what’s going on. A few rounds of “Nothing; see you later.” “We’re friends. Tell me what’s wrong.” “I’m your teacher, and I say we’re done.” “Are you mad at me?” “It’s not you, it’s me.” “What?” “Fine. You stay and I’ll go.” Gabriel leaves and Paloma has no idea what has just happened.

Carloca stomps up the stairs. Rufi goes into the office and sees the mess. “Carlota and Germán?! I can’t believe it!”

You know, the shower scenes in this novela are really subpar. This one features La Loca. She furiously rinses while remembering the nasty germy smooch. Her eye makeup does not move, even with rubbing.

Mónica and Camila hope the news about Samuel and Diana is only gossip, but Camila says maybe Diana thought it was the perfect vengeance against Camila. She tells Mónica she can believe Samuel would do it to try to scam Diana. In fact, she saw him with Carlota one day and suspects he was up to the same thing with her. Camila leaves a message for Samuel to call her.

Samuel is playing cards and drinking with Diana, and ignores the beeping phone. He claims Camila has been pestering him since he returned to Real del Monte, always wanting to get together. She’s probably tired of her fiancé, that pelmazo (pain in the heinie), and having a midlife crisis besides, now that she’s a grandmother. Diana looks a little offended at that, but Samuel quickly covers by saying that no one would guess she is also a grandmother. Sammy wants to keep playing poker, but Diana says he’s won all her money. He suggests strip poker instead. She’s titillated. His jacket comes off. Her shoes. Her jacket. Her blouse. Her skirt. Her wig.

Romina calls the furniture store to ask why her delivery is taking so long. The furniture lady says they have no record of her order. Then a nurse calls to tell her the baby is stable, but needs his mother to come visit him; it’s vital to help him thrive. Romina says she’ll see if she can get around to it, but in the meantime, take good care of him, okey-dokey? Buh-bye.

Liliana finds Eric on the street and tells him she’s missed him terribly and wants to get back together. He says he loves her, but she doesn’t really love him. She says she does. He says unless she is absolutely sure, she should stay away from him. Lili cries.

Luz lets herself into Gabriel’s place and hunts around looking for him. Yes, she is one of those women who calls, “You-hoooo!” (It’s spelled yuju en español). She finds a sketch of a girl with bangs and braids and seems enchanted by it. Luz writes a note: “Gabriel, where are you? I’m stealing your sketch (bosquejo).” She needs to learn some boundaries.

Gabriel is out pacing in the park. Sandra calls from her sickbed and asks what’s the deal with him taking Paloma to graduation. “Sorry, gotta go,” he says, and hangs up. Romina strolls up, looking remarkably trim. “Hola, guapo,” she says flirtily.

Paloma helps Rufi with some baking. “Mamá’s recipe,” comments Paloma happily. “Yes, your father loved this,” says Rufi. Paloma gets mad and says she doesn’t want to hear anything about that man. Rufi tells her not to believe what he said. Maybe if Rufi would just tell Paloma the truth already, she could have something real to believe. Paloma’s still annoyed, so Rufi tells her the hot gossip about Carlota and Germán to distract her. She says they were shut up in the office for hours and hours (REALLY?! That was some kiss! I’m glad we got the condensed version!) and then Germs left in a hurry and Tia Loca had a fit. Rufi is just saying that she doesn’t think Carlota will attend the trial when the purple cow walks in and says certainly not. No one should. Paloma says she is definitely going. Carloca says fine, but she’s going to hear some very ugly things about Cris and Natalia.

Gabriel asks about Romina’s baby, which she uses as a lead-in to trash-talk Paloma and grope Gabe a bit while asking if he has the hots for Paloma. Gabriel suddenly feels the need to get back to work. “An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth,” Romina says to herself.

Germán visits Doc Bermúdez. Doc tells him that he and Emiliano doubt the baby’s paternity. Germán says they already did a test. Doc says even so, things just don’t square, and he wants to do another test. Germy says no test; he doesn’t want to know. In his mind, he says if Carlota found out he was the father of Romina’s baby, his scheme with her would be over. (Oh, the irony! Carlota is the one who got the first test faked. I love that Germy still thinks he has the upper hand and hasn’t grasped that Carlota is the root of all Real del Monte evil). Doc B calls him a coward. Germs doesn’t care. He wants to dar la carpetaza to the whole subject (I’m guessing that’s like file it away; be done with it).

Gabriel is hard at work when his dad drops in and can sense something is wrong. Gabriel says he wants to finish up his work and skip town as soon as possible, because he is in love with Paloma. They have a little staring contest. Eugenio is thrilled. Falling in love is great! Gabriel doesn’t like it. Besides, he says, you know my secret, and that I can’t have ataduras (have ties? Relations? Something like that?). Eugenio says finding love is a blessing and he should just go with it. Gabriel wants to use his time to pass on his knowledge and skill. Aww, it’s kind of sweet that his dad just can’t break it to him that he sucks at art. Dad says that love isn’t a waste of time. Sure, I feel that, says Gabe, but what about after?

[I’m leaning toward brain tumor as the diagnosis. It might explain some of the delusions and mood swings. There are also hints pointing toward HIV, but that is very treatable these days, so while I would understand his reluctance to have relations, I’m not sure it would explain the fatalistic “I have limited time” attitude. Then again, this is a telenovela, so regular medical facts need not apply. Then AGAIN, I have learned everything I pretend to know about medicine from television.]

Chava gives Emiliano a tiny pair of soccer shoes and a little soccer ball for the baby. He says he’s going to Padre JC’s trial to support him, which is the very least he can do after all PJC has done for him. Chava hopes someday he can help Emo’s son the way Emo helped him (is he saying he hopes Samito will be an alcoholic dropout?) and he wants to be just like Emo when he grows up. Big hug.

Orlando gives Natalia the letter from Cris. It says he’s very sorry he’s gotten her into this situation and to have faith that soon they will be free. Nat says it is not his fault. Orlando tells her that surely Carlota is responsible, motivated by her sick and twisted obsession with Cris. “Inconceivable!” says Nat. Orly tries to cheer her up a bit and agrees to try to make arrangements for Ivonne to come and visit.

Paloma admires the baby. Emiliano shows up with his friend Alejandro, who is visiting from Guanajuato. Alejandro plays the recorder therapeutically for the baby. Sammy isn’t screaming, so I guess he likes it okay. Paloma tells Emiliano he’s a super good dad. He says she’ll be a great mom someday. He ponders sadly the idea of her in love with another. The hospital staff comes to the window to find out what the hell that noise is…er, I mean, to marvel at the beautiful healing scene.

Germán fetches Cris. It’s time to go. Cris says he hopes the facts will come to light, especially since Natalia has a daughter and it’s about time for their annual two-hour mother-daughter visit. He might not have said that last part.

*I’m guessing; I didn’t actually read it.

Mañana: The trial. Seriously?! Neither the prosecution nor the defense has done any investigating!

Sortilegio, Tuesday, January 12--Ep #65: Raquel is wasting away again in Vodkaville.

At the shop, Chucho gabs to Meche and Gabriel about how happy Pedro was to see his daughters. Pedro is doing better from his prison beatings and he might be getting out soon. And also Alex and MaryJo are getting married, woo hoo! Gabriel wants to know how Paula is doing and Chucho says she's not getting married yet. Chucho gives Gabriel the advice to forget about Paula--she flies too high for him.

Team Evil discuss Maura's hesitations. She thinks there's too much risk of something going wrong. But then again, she's just going to give them a date and a time, she won't be getting her hands dirty. Jorge repeats that MJ will live a life of luxury and Maura will have Alex. And what about Ulises? Jorge says they bought him off and he went to Argentina. Maura is surprised. Jorge claims he never lies. He asks Maura to tell him more about the Lombardo family.

Roberto and Paula check out the new baby in her incubator. Paula comments that she's tiny and alone. Roberto says she's missing the alcohol that mommy used to give her. Paula wants to rip Raquel's eyes out. Get in line, sister. They go have lunch.

Alex, MaryJo, Fernando, and Vicky talk shop. Alex wants Fernando to be Veep. He suggests giving it to Bruno, but MJ won't hear of it. She doesn't think he deserves it and Vicky has to agree. Fernando tries to talk them into it as a reconciliation gesture. MJ doesn't think there will ever be a reconciliation.

Upstairs, she keeps evading Alex's questions about whether Bruno has said something to her. She sidesteps by asking why he asked Maura to find them a house. Alex laughs and says he asked Mari to do it, but Maura overheard. MJ has a fit when Alex insists he's talked to her and she understands she can't have him. Yeah, if he believes that, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell him. MJ insists that Maura did it to be closer to Alex. Alex says Maura's wasting her time because he loves MJ. She's his life and his love. But she's sick of Maura being around. He wheedles a smile and a kiss out of her and, of course, it works. Behold the power of William Levy.

Vicky and Fernando are still arguing about the Veepship. He doesn't want people saying that Vicky gave it to him. He can't handle their secret love anymore. He wants to go shout to the four winds that he luuuuuuurves her. She accuses him of "desvariando" (being delirious). She wants to break up with him because people won't accept her being with a younger man and yes, she does actually care what other people think. Your loss, lady. She also has too much stuff going on and she just wants some peace, already. Fernando asks her if he's a problem for her and she says he is. It was a lovely moment, a dream, and all dreams have to end. But Fernando doesn't want it to end. Vicky cries (and probably lies) and says she does. Tears all around.

Elena reports back to Jorge after taking Maura to the airport. She says they didn't talk about it on the way--she didn't want to "agobiarla" (overwhelm her). He agrees. Finally, for once he's not calling her an idiot and berating her.

They continue discussing it at dinner. Jorge thinks Maura is the one who's an idiot for refusing their deal. He doesn't think Maura has the "agallas" (guts) to do this. Elena thinks it's all about Maura being young. But she also doesn't think that Maura is going to go blabbing to anyone. Elena wonders if they should tell Porfirio the truth, but Jorge says no. He goes off to try to revive Sandra again.

Maura and Bruno walk into Maura's place. Bruno rudely dismisses the maid after she tells them that Lisette is out with Katia. Bruno starts questioning her about MJ's mom and secret twin. He grabs her by the throat, so she gives up the info that MaryJo's mom and mom's husband want to kidnap MaryJo so that she can pass as her twin. Bruno lets go of her throat.

Fernando mopes at home.

Vicky gets all negative and pessimistic and Felipa tries, very gently, to make her see that she's being an idiot. Vicky claims that all men want to get married and have kids and she doesn't want to rob him of that. Riiiiight. Felipa doesn't think he's going to just get over her just like that. Vicky says she'll never forget him.

Bruno tells Maura she should be happy. She can get MJ out of the way and have Alex all to herself. He's going to get in contact with Elena and Jorge and offer to help them out. He thinks it's strange, though, that Ulises would have taken off to Argentina when there's such a big wad of cash involved. Yeah, that does look a little fishy. Bruno sarcastically points to his neck and says he hopes she feels better, then he leaves.

Raquel is shouting out the window that she's not a child and they can't torture her like that. She goes running out of the house with the nurse following her. She runs into Bruno and starts begging him for help as he walks out with his rolling suitcase. She's begs him for a drink. He says she's nuts and he doesn't want to put up with a drunk. She reminds him that she voted for him, but he keeps walking away.

The family, the sane and non-evil members of the family anyway, are sitting down to breakfast. Mr. 5ft comments that they're eating pancakes, but I have to break it to him that in Spanish they're called "hotcakes". He may never get over the disillusionment. MaryJo and Vicky are chatting about having the wedding reception in the garden when Raquel walks in. I have to pause it for a minute, because Raquel has been drinking so much and for so long that even though she's been sober for, what, a day and a half, it is still possible to get drunk off her fumes when she's on screen. So I try not to inhale too much at once. Anyway, she's complaining about being an adult and they can't treat her like this, blah, blah, blah. Not making the best case for herself. She circles the table, screaming at them all. She's going to divorce Roberto and she doesn’t care what happens to the kid. You all suck, quit looking at me like I'm crazy, who do you think you are, mom's a slut, MJ and Paula are trailer trash, Ulises has left me and you all hate me, I never asked for your help, blah, blah, blah. Alex tells her if she wants to, she can get the hell out of the house, minus the car and the credit cards. She tries to assert her right to her monthly allowance, like Daddy stipulated in his will. Oh, you mean the will you and that jackass Bruno wanted invalidated? Yeah, Princess, that means no allowance for you. Her brilliant plan is to live off the dividend checks from the company stock, sell off her jewelry to buy alcohol, and prostitute herself in the meantime. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out (but perhaps I'm being too optimistic too soon). MJ whines that Alex was too hard on her. Roberto also wants Alex to reconsider, but Alex thinks maybe if they let her go, Raquel will save herself.

Alex goes outside to tell Arturo that he's to drop Raquel off anywhere she wants, but not leave her the car and then watch her, discreetly, during the day. Augustin will watch her at night--those are their new assignments. Quit, dudes. I'm telling you, unless he adds a zero to the end of your paycheck, it's just not worth it.

Vicky goes upstairs and cries. Same old song. Raquel needs compassion, Alex went too far, blah, blah. Felipa tries to be the voice of reason, but Vicky never listens. Alex comes in to check on Vicky. He tells her that he's having the guys watch her. And also, he's going to have Hernán recommend a psychologist because they're all having a rough time. He doesn't think Raquel can get into much trouble without a car. Felipa figures she'll just get herself good and drunk and then sleep it off somewhere.

Raquel has Arturo go into a liquor store and buy her a case of vodka. Dumbass. She then goes to Uli's place, which is technically hers since she paid for it for a year. Arturo sets the box on the bar and then leaves. He explains that he's not supposed to leave her the keys, but she throws magazines at him. I'm not clear on whether he actually did leave her the keys or not.

Elena is rubbing down a horse when Bruno shows up. That's not a euphemism. She assumes that Katia sent him, being his girlfriend and all. Bruno says she was never his girlfriend. He's here to talk about MaryJo.

MaryJo whines to Alex about letting Raquel leave. QTH do you think he should have done? He doesn't get an answer to that question either. Arturo calls to report in and I'm guessing since Alex said "thanks" that he didn't leave Raquel with the car keys. Alex tells MJ that Raquel is holed up at Ulises' place, but they stopped off for a box of vodka first.

Elena introduces Bruno to Jorge and tells him that Bruno is here about MaryJo. Jorge gripes that Maura spilled her guts to him and Bruno grins and says she did need a little persuading. Jackass. Jorge doesn't think Bruno can be trusted, but Bruno breaks into his country western number about how Alex took away the love of his ma and his pa and his best girl and he stole his truck (well, ok, the presidency of the company) and danged if he don't want that no-good varmint dead. Jorge probably thinks it sounds like Bruno will be a good ally, but his face doesn't look like it.

Hernán comes over and explains to the family that the only way to have Raquel locked up against her will is in a psychiatric institution. Vicky, of course, objects. Hernán agrees with Alex's decision, painful though it is. He hopes that Raquel will hit rock bottom and then decide to quit. Roberto is concerned that she's at Ulises' place all alone and he can't get hold of her on the phone. Vicky is upset still that Alex let her leave, but Alex says she could have gone at any time and at least this way they know where she is and she's being watched. Hernán says she won't get clean until she wants to and Alex is right. Alex proposes to Paula that she propose to Meche that she offer Raquel her services as a maid.

Over tequilas, Bruno assures Mr. and Mrs. Evil that Maura's not going to open her mouth, she has too much to lose and too much to gain. He is worried about Ulises, though, but Jorge says not to worry about it--and when he says not to worry, he says it because he knows he's right. Bruno also brings up the fact that Fernando's uncle lives near there and Fernando knows both MJ and Bruno. And this presents a problem, why? Oh, because Bruno isn't after money as the price of his help, he wants MJ, or should he say, Sandra.

Lucero really looks awesome in those Oil of Olay commercials. She's, like, glowing.

At the beach club, Fernando and Alex get caught up on gossip. Raquel is at Ulises' and Vicky broke up with Fernando. I feel like I'm shortchanging you on a lot of these conversations, but the problem is it's the same old arguments they've been having forever, so unless I hear some interesting vocabulary it all just sounds like blah, blah, blah to me. Trust me, you're not missing any new material. Fernando is pissed that Vicky is doing the thinking for him. Well, then maybe you should just never date. Ever. Fer can't handle her wishy-washyness. A couple of skanks come up to hang out with them. Alex grins as he confirms that he did get divorced, but denies that he's with Maura now. Fernando's snank du nuit tries to get him to dance, but he refuses. Alex grins again as he tells his skank that he's got to go home 'cause his woman's waiting for him…uh, didn't you get divorced…*grin*.

Ezequiel greets Alex. He doesn't go to sleep until everyone's home. Bruno isn't home, but EZ doesn't know where he went. Arturo reported in to say that Raquel hasn't left the apartment. Alex goes upstairs.

Tiny Tony sleeps. As does his nurse, at least until Alex comes in to say hi. Rosi (the nurse) draws the curtain around TT's crib.

Alex watches MJ sleep, turns out the lights, and starts undressing. Damn, those pants are tight.

Vicky thought bubbles more poetry and cries.

Alex snuggles up with MJ and wakes her up. He tells her that Vicky broke up with Fernando. They discuss Vicky and Fer's relationship and the nature of luuuuuurve. And then they talk about how they luuuuuuurve each other. Mr. 5ft has to pull out the old joke when he sees on the closed captioning that Alex loves MJ "tanto, tanto, tanto." People, that means "a lot" not "sidekick of the Lone Ranger."

Bruno and Maura show up outside the company. Bruno tells her "it's all arranged" and that he thinks the old guy killed Ulises. Inside, it's time for another board (bored) meeting. They're voting on a new veep. Alex proposes Fernando. Bruno gripes. Maura thinks it should be another family member, therefore Bruno. Vicky proposes Hernán. No one else has any suggestions. Maura and Raquel vote Bruno. Vicky, MJ, and Alex vote for Hernán. The shady board members vote for Hernán. Bruno is pissed. He tries to throw the one guy's notebook off the table, but the guy's got it too tightly under his arm. Bruno bitches at his mom and Hernán and leaves. Everyone else starts congratulating Hernán.

At La Nueva Casa Borracha (aka, Raquel's), Meche is trying to get hired as a maid. Raquel doesn't really want to her about her qualifications or lack thereof. She just wants Meche to do her job and then go home. She asks how much Meche wants to be paid.

Meche tells Chucho and Gabriel that she got hired, but it's gonna suck working for Raquel. Chucho reminds her they owe Alex a lot. Gabriel chimes in and says it won't be for long, because an art dealer saw some of his carvings and wants to sell them at a hotel in downtown. Gabriel didn't ask how much he'd get paid and Chucho chews him out about it. Meche thinks Gabe will get to be important, but Chucho says people like them don't get to be important, that's why "primero engordamos la marrana y ya luego comemos chicharron" (first we fatten up the pig, then we eat fried pig skin).

Lisette is going out dancing with Katia. Maura tells her she looks pale even with all the makeup and asks if she's been to the doctor. Lisette spins around to show just how fine she is and says she doesn't need a doctor. So there. She leaves as the phone rings. Bruno tells Maura they've got to do the thing this week and she can't back out. Bruno advises her to behave naturally and she won't get caught. He reminds her she can have free access to Alex after this. She asks him "When?"

Katia and Lisette run into Fernando at the club, talking to the skank. Katia praises her on her youth. They continue picking on Fernando's taste in women, so he takes off.

Felipa brings Vicky a tea as Fernando calls Vicky's cell. She ignores it.

Raquel moans on the couch as Meche tries to get her to eat something. She throws a tantrum and says she just wants to be alone.

Meche reports back to Chucho and Paula about how Raquel just drinks all day long. Gabriel tries to make an excuse for her drinking ("maybe she just got depressed and that's how she started, maybe she caught her husband with someone else") but Paula won't hear it. Roberto's just the greatest guy and Raquel didn't know how to appreciate him. They get into an argument and Paula tells him to shut it. Gabriel's grinning like he likes it when Paula yells at him. Or maybe what he likes is that she's paying attention to him for a change. Chucho tells them to cut it out and asks Paula for the latest news from jail.

Alex gets a call from his lawyer, who says Pedro can get out today. Alex tells the lawyer to go ahead and pay. He's also sending the helicopter to bring them back faster and he wants the lawyer to buy Pedro some clothes.

And that's all for today. Tomorrow: Bruno tells Maura that the kidnapping will happen in 2 days; Alex surprises everyone with Pedro at dinner; the old dude is informed that Sandra's coming home in 2 days; MaryJo stupidly gets into a car with Maura. Also stupid on Maura's part since Felipa knows they left together. Whoo! It's Ultimas Semanas!
