Triunfo del Amor #18 1/26/11 A triumph of poorly timed displays of affection.

Bernarda and Victoria face off at last…dum, dum, dum! Each accuses the other of having ruined her life. It comes off like "You ruined my life!" "Nuh-uh, you ruined MY life!" "Well, you ruined my life FIRST, so there!" "Well, I only ruined your life because I knew you were gonna ruin mine!" Oh, yes, but it was all Victoria's fault for seducing JP and taking his virtue! You're a sinner! No, YOU'RE a sinner! Bernarda threatens violence, but Vic tells her to back the hell off. Bernarda brings up the lost child and Victoria says she's going to burn in hell for it. I bow to Daniela Romo's eyebrow arching skills.

Martincito is recovering well. He can go home tomorrow, and Padre JP promises he can run around with the other boys, but he's got to take it easy. The parish guys come in to visit and they bring him a "balón" (a fútbal). The doc and Padre JP talk about how the guys get along much better now than they used to. The guys all agree that they are Padre JP's children and he gets a little verklempt…wait, are Catholic priests allowed to get verklempt?

Bernarda and Victoria now threaten each other with telling the world about each other's past faults, real or imagined. Victoria was a priest-seducing slut. Bernarda was an overbearing mother. Bernarda wants Vic to leave JP alone because it wasn't his fault the kid got lost. Victoria physically throws Bernarda out of her office. She calls Luci and tells her to tell security to NEVER let that woman in the building again. That's the first intelligent thing she's said all day.

JuanJo comes to check up on Linda. She says she was so freaked out that she left her makeup case behind and now she doesn't know how she's going to work. Nathy thinks she should have given up the bracelet. Linda has enough presence of mind to say that she was upset that they wanted to take it. She's going to put it away so she doesn't get assaulted again. Maria D hates that on top of everything else, they've got to worry about being mugged by delinquents! JuanJo invites all the girls to dinner at his house and tells Linda she'll find out what the occasion is soon enough…wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Max drives Maria to work, stopping at a posted "Model Crossing" (if you've never seen one of these before, it's white print on a hot pink background, with stylized legs towering over tiny plastic cars…be careful, those girls are insured so, you break it, you bought it!). He waves at the herd of giraffes and Maria fusses about it. She asks a question even worse than "Does this make me look fat?"…"With all the beautiful women in Mexico, what are you doing with me?" Max says she's "different." Seriously, man, you're gonna have to do better than that! He likes her sweetness and her "mál caracter" (bad temper)…but seriously, there is no woman more important to him than Maria. That wins her over. He says he's so happy that he doesn't want to go to work. Maria says no way, "if your mom finds out I'll get in trouble!" Max says little by little, Maria will win his mother over. Smoochies. Smoooooooooooochies. And the jackass behind them starts honking.

Padre JP prays in his church. Victoria comes in and asks what he thinks he's doing sending his mother to come threaten her. Victoria fills him in on the meeting and he says he had nothing to do it. Vic says he has to take action, he can't just wait for God. He admits that he shares responsibility for what happened between them. She says all she wants is to find her daughter and he promises not to stop until they find her. Victoria wants him to put his mother on a leash. "If what she wants is to bring up the past, we've all got a lot to lose. Especially you." Padre JP is surprised to hear her say it. He watches her walk out of the church.

Maria and Max sneak into the building and try to lie to Pippin about showing up together. Pippin brings up Maria's beauty and Victoria's big plans for her. Pip starts to talk to Max about someone who's been calling, but Max says, "later." Pip walks off singing about "amore!" Maria teases Max about the mystery calls from Paris, but he brushes it off and convinces her to sneak off to his office with him. Bow, chicka, bow, bow!

Guillermo practices martial arts. He pins his opponent and probably feels like a badass, but he'll get his comeuppance in the end.

Max shows off his office and his amazing view. The view out his window, people, minds out of the gutter! Max wants some smoochies, but Maria is reluctant…for about half a second!

Osvaldo calls Victoria at work. She's irritated when she answers and he can hear it. She asks if she can call him back after she calms down. Ossie sits behind his desk and gets his mid-life crisis going again…"Nothing I do ever satisfies Victoria!" He'll be calling Linda before the end of the episode.

Linda is sitting at the table with JuanJo and Nathy, looking nervous. JJ says not to worry…after tonight her whole life will change. Nathy praises JJ's courage and asks him to demonstrate his mad fighting skillz. The phone rings and he answers it. Damn. Os works fast. He doesn't say who it is, so Linda grabs the phone and says it must be work. Nathy covers by saying people are so rude nowadays, not wanting to give their names over the phone. Shut up Nathy. Grow a spine and quit letting this tramp steal the man you love! Fight for your right to JJ! Os says he wanted to know how Linda is doing. She says she had kind of an accident…"Yes, sir, if you want me to come to the office, I can do that." Os figures out that she can't talk and asks if it has something to do with the guy who answered the phone. Meanwhile, JJ, very close to the receiver asks "Quien es, mi amor?" (Who is it, my love?) Busted!

Milagros gets Don Napo to help her down from the bus. She thanks him for coming out shopping with her. She's buying Linda's engagement ring. She doesn't want JJ to end up single. She needs him to get married and procreate. And speaking of getting married…Don Napo says he's too young. When he goes grey and hair grows out his ears, he'll get right on that marriage thing. Milagros figures he'll be calling her tomorrow…heh, heh.

Os tells Linda that he's been called to the Televisa studios, so he'll give her a call later and she can tell him what happened. Linda agrees and says she'll show up later, and thanks for his understanding.

Linda tells JJ she's got to go to an interview, but she lost her makeup kit. JJ says one they get married, she won't have to work anymore. "Yes, darling, but in the meantime, I need money…I can't live on air! But don't worry, the man who just called me offered me a job I'm very, very interested in." Linda catches Nathy's eye and realizes she's giving her chair just a little too much of a lap dance. JJ comes over to hug her. Probably attracted by the pheremones.

The Spanish director has summoned Ofelia and Guillermo to tell them something, but not before Osvaldo gets there. It's a surprise. Osvaldo comes in and asks what the director has to tell them.

Fabian shows up and can't get in because the door is locked. Max goes to unlock it and he and Maria pretend that Max was just giving her the tour. Is that what the kids are calling it these days? I'd like a tour. Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to say that out loud. Maria leaves to go, you know, do some actual work. Fabian calls Max "tonto" (stupid). What if Max's mom had come in? Max says he just can't help himself he wants to smooch on her every chance he gets! Fabian says he understands, the same thing happens with Max's sister, but he's not going around cornering her every chance he gets. Max tells Fabian his sister isn't into him. "Sorry. That was a stupid thing to say." Fabian says not to worry about it. They've got work to do and they're behind.

Fer's friend Gabi tells her that it's not the end of the world just because her parents want to get a divorce. Fer says her parents have never had problems, but now they're fighting and she feels like it's her fault. Gabi think it's more likely that Os is into another woman. Fer says there's no way! Her dad's a great guy. Gabi thinks Os just wanted a little something on the side, that's all. Fer forbids her from even joking about it or their friendship is over.

The big news is that Osvaldo is going to be in the miniseries. The director insisted until Osvaldo got a good character. Basically Guillermo and Osvaldo have switched places and Osvaldo is now playing the villain. Osvaldo actually thinks it's an even bigger role than Guillermo's, with all due respect. But what about the other telenovela that Osvaldo was going to do? The director got it delayed so that Os could be in the miniseries. Ofelia pretends to be pleased, but the wheels are turning.

Padre JP talks to his confessor. The confessor says he needs to get everyone to calm down. Tell the ladies to stop catfighting and just stay away from each other.

Maria comes to see Victoria in her office. Victoria says there are two big runway shows coming up. She needs to speed up Maria's training and do a makeover, asap. They need to find her colors, get her a better hairstyle, and so on. The only thing that won't change is the name, "Maria Desamparada" because it makes her unique. Maria hugs Victoria in thanks and says she really identifies with her since she found out that Victoria's origins are as humble as her own. Maria mentions that they both needed their mothers, but neither one had her mother. She hugs Victoria again and says she feels like they both feel the same pain. Maria starts to leave, but Victoria calls her back and calls her hija and hugs her.

Os calls Linda to find out what happened the other day. He invites her to dinner and BEGS (dumbass)…just as friends, though, and she'd better be clear on that. I see Os is feeling all studly again.

Pippin and Antonieta have dinner at the same restaurant where Osvaldo is having dinner with Linda. Os had mentioned it to Pip before and he decided to take Antonieta there. She sees Osvaldo walk in and suggests they invite him to their table, but Pip sees Linda and covers his face with a napkin.

Nathy tells Maria that Linda went out with Os. She's worried that Linda is now missing her own proposal. The doorbell rings and it's JuanJo, all dressed up.

Antonieta wonders who the hell that woman is. Linda hoovers his face. Antonieta wants to go right over and give him a piece of her mind. Pip wants to hide. Antonieta is furious, but he gets her to leave with him. Ofelia and Guillermo, hiding at a table behind a plant, also see the Linda and Os show, and they grin happily. So the moral of the story is, if you're a dumbass who's cheating on your wife, don't take your new arm candy, who has more cleavage than sense, to a restaurant that you've recommended to everyone you know. Or maybe, you could, I don't know…not cheat in the first place? Just a thought.

Antonieta is still yelling at Pip when they get out to the car and into traffic. She thinks it's obvious he's cheating, but Pip says it was an innocent kiss and all artists kiss each other like that. Antonieta is not buying that. Pip begs her not to say anything. She can't do it. Pip says the family's happiness depends on it and if he has to he'll take her to his studio and sew her lips shut. Antonieta says for the happiness of the family, she'll swear, but she's furious and she thinks Os deserves to be burned with green wood! Pip says life will take care of it…"le saldrá panza, se le caerá el pelo, le saldrá una verruga en la nariz, no te preocupes" (he'll get a belly, his hair will fall out, he'll grow a wart on his nose, don't worry). Antonieta can't see how he can be so calm when this is so serious. She says she doesn't know what she wants to do, but then she gets an idea. She asks Pip to drive her back to the office.

The girls are making excuses for Linda…traffic, full busses. Milagros says the food is going to be terrible if she keeps reheating it.

Linda and Os toast to Os' new role. She kisses him again and Os tells her that they'd agreed they were just friends. Linda calls it a friendly kiss. She's annoyed by the ringing of her phone and finally answers it, knowing it's her roommates. Maria tells her if she doesn't get there in 15 minutes, she'll tell Victoria everything.

Maria hangs up on her and tells everyone that Linda is on her way. Don Napo says he was nervous after the attempted mugging the other day. Milagros hadn't heard about it and asks what they were trying to steal. "Una pulsera, " replies Nathy (a bracelet), then amends it to "de fantasía" (costume jewelry or imitation). Milagros says these damn kids today! She goes to reheat dinner and Maria goes to help her.

Linda says one of her friends was just assaulted and they stole the bracelet Osvaldo gave her, that she lent her "friend." She has to go. She leaves, but then comes back to kiss him on the mouth one more time. Guillermo and Ofelia toast to their good luck.

Bernarda sleeps the sleep of the damned. Kudos to the lighting guys for the strange spotlight on the giant crucifix over her bed. She's awakened by the door to her bedroom opening and the Ghost of Victims Past visits. "I'm dead because you killed me! For your conscience, I'm still alive!" It's hard to understand what he's saying with the echoing, but basically he threatens her with how horrid it would be for JP to find out what she's done. He ends with "You don't deserve his prayers!" Bernarda wakes up, but keeps screaming "Go away! Leave me alone!" Tomasa hears the screams and comes to her door, but doesn't enter the room, just stands outside and crosses herself.

Guillermo and Ofelia go back to Guillermo's place to hatch plans. Guillermo says he'll use the knowledge at the right time. She advises him to do it discreetly so they don't suspect him. Guillermo says Osvaldo owes him. Especially with this latest--he's read the script and the villain's part is better than his. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia! Ofelia says Pedro's stupid. She's only with him because it's to her advantage, but she can't stand him. Guillermo takes away her drink and suggests they share from his glass. They get it on. She'd rather have him than Pedro?

Pip begs Antonieta by anything she holds dear not to do anything she'll regret later.

Oscar asks Victoria what's up. She says a lot, but it's private and she can't tell him. He offers to keep her company, at least, but Vic says she's not the best company right now. Oscar asks her to trust in him. "You're offering me help? Me? The woman of iron? The woman who has earned the reputation as being hard and not having feelings?" Oscar reminds her she's a woman, first of all, and even the strongest women have their weak moments. Victoria says she was young when she started out and she realized how difficult it was surviving in a man's world. "You guys don't like it when women are in charge. I bet you don't like it taking orders from me?" Oh, no, Oscar luuuuuuuuurves it when she orders him around. He says he admires and respects her.

Linda praises Milagros' cooking and says she's never had better. Milagros complains about having to reheat dinner so many times. Linda says it took her a 2-hour commute to meet her new boss and then she had to fill out a ton of paperwork, but at least she got hired. The other girls start to help clearing the table and Don Napo asks if it isn't time to serve dessert? He brings over the cake and then starts to pop the champagne while Linda chokes on her engagement ring. JJ asks her to marry him and she looks confused.

Vic says she met a lot of men, some of them wanted to use her, some of them wanted to beat her down, but one day she found Osvaldo and she finally found love with him. Oscar asks her to forgive him for saying it, but he envies Osvaldo's luck. Vic says she was having a moment there, talking about her feelings, but it's over. Oscar begs her to look at him and says she can trust him unconditionally. Victoria thanks him and hugs him. And Oscar can now die a happy man.

Osvaldo is in the building, looking for Victoria. He stops in the hallway to talk to Luci for a moment.

Victoria is still going on about how alone she can feel sometimes, crying and hugging Oscar. Osvaldo walks in and asks Oscar what he's doing holding his wife! Vic says she has nothing to explain. Osvaldo tells Oscar the only reason he's not going to tell him everything he thinks of him is because Vic is there, but if he sees anything like this again…. Antonieta comes in and says they don't have anything to explain and he has no right to ask for explanations, is that clear? Osvaldo and Antonieta face off while Vic looks confused.

Sweet William Levy in a kayak!

Tomorrow: Someone publishes a picture of Max and his alleged "fiancee" in the paper, and it's not Maria.

Llena de Amor #116 (Mex. 121) Wed 1/26/11 Love Is A Many Splintered Thing

Well, we start the evening with a replay of Ilitia moaning and saying yes, yes, yessssss.....don't stop, do it, do it..... while Emanuel is busy somewhere below her waist. A delicious imaginative moment to be sure. Actually he's just sucking critter venom out of her leg with a little comic salute to STuD. But thanks anyway. Darned funny.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, that whack on the head has done good things for Vicky. She's in a coma (no talking, no bitching) and when she finally comes to she's making nice, murmuring to Emanuel that she loves him. He's still too thick to realize she's Marianela (will their kids be riding the little bus later in life?), but he's thinking. Slow, turgid brain cell activity but something's going on. Marianela even has an aha moment towards the end of the episode when Delicia convinces her that Emanuel did NOT know the chocolates were poisoned. It was all a Bernardo/Fedra plot. And best of all, Oliver and Gretel have resolved all their misunderstandings in the most delightful way possible, tucked up in bed and making Love not War. Adorable.
As were Axel and Delicia, planning to go to the ball (er, Charity Benefit) if they can ward off ugly stepsister Nereida and equally ugly stepmother Fedra. The only other hookup of note was Lorenzo and Mauricio. Lo has wangled his one percent of the booty up to fifty per cent and Mau has retaliated by convincing Lo to dress up as el Lirio de Plata for the Benefit Bash. This should be good. And by golly, ain't Love grand? Well, not to Bernardo, who's still chafing at Fedra's lack of interest in him. But he'll get revenge by one day killing Lorenzo for her. We'll certainly be cheering him on for that.

So much for the broad brush strokes of the developments. Details to follow. Netty is chattering away a mile a minute to bedridden Vicky even though Doris tells her folks in a coma can't hear. (Actually, as I understand it, they can.) But whatever. Netty keeps talking.

So does Axel. He's presented Delicia with a beautiful scripted invitation to the Charity Benefit made out especially to her. She's thrilled but intimidated by the notation "formal". Does she have to fill out forms like you do at the police station? He explains the clothing required and she worries that her "puras garras" (everyday tasteless duds) won't do at all. Alas, after he leaves, Nereida swoops in, snatches the invite away, tells Fedra about it and our witch rips it away and vows to throw it in the garbage. You're no Cenicienta (Cinderella) sneers Nereida and you're not going anywhere.

Next, Fedra gets a call from a gleeful Lorenzo, reporting that Vicky is on her way to the cemetery. Great news.

But not accurate news. Vicky is very much alive, though presently in the requisite telenovela coma, and the loved ones are in the lobby bickering about whose fault it is. Brandon accuses Emanuel of being to blame since he was out of town on his delayed honeymoon when he should have been overseeing the event preparations. Alibi? Ilitia steps up and announces that he never left her side the whole time. Sure, snaps Brandon, but he could have ordered the hit from a distance. Emiliano rumbles and dissents that it was just an accident. In a much higher pitch Netty announces that it was an assault! No doubt about it.

Let's leave this happy scene and go back to the mansion. Delicia is scurrying around Fedra's room trying to find the purloined invitation when she hears Bernardo and Fedra coming. Quick she scoots behind a curtain. My favorite scene coming up. Fedra imperiously pats her shoulders and lapdog Bernardo dutifully starts massaging.
Meanwhile they talk about Vicky's true identity and reminisce about their previous attempts to deep six Marianela with poisoned chocolates. By the time Emiliano telephones from the hospital, Bernardo is hammer-tonging Fedra's shoulders which makes her Qqqquuuueeeelllllassstimmmaa addddiiiiiioooooss sound hysterical. I love these little comic touches.

Back to the hospital. Emanuel is now hovering over Vicky.
In spite of the fact that she's suffered a concussion, he sees fit to slap her face and exhort her to "React. Breathe. React. Breathe." Please kids, don't try this at home. Anyway, she comes to briefly and murmurs Emanuel," Te amo, te amo mi amor." He's like duh whah? Well, what do you expect from someone who slaps a concussion victim?

Fedra, meanwhile, is struggling valiantly with vowels. She can't quite get out "beneficiencia" and she has all my sympathy. I have trouble with those long words too...but not in my native language, thank goodness. Bernardo finishes the word for her (as Delicia did earlier) and she fills him in on the latest outrage. Axel wants to invite Delicia to that bene...whatever!

And Emanuel's still struggling with reality. Oh my, she's saying things like Marianela said when we made love for the first time, he ponders. What could this mean? She must be delirious. Please, Vicky, get better so you can tell me why you're saying these things. Man, he's dumb! I mean, really...even Fedra has already figured out that Vicky and Marianela are one and the same, minus about 100 kilos. And she's had fewer clues by far than Eman. He's not going to be on a quiz show anytime soon, that's for sure.

Shall we switch to another dopey (albeit adorable) lover? Oh yes, Oliver and Gretel are making up for lost time.

Looks like they're about to start on Round Two or perhaps Round Three, Four or Five (they're young, after all) but Gretel thinks it would add a little spice if she put on the wig and mustache. And indeed it does.

Gladiola barges in with cleaning supplies, utters a righteous oath (Sovereign Immaculate Heart of Jesus!) and then scolds them about their behavior. And for heavens' sakes lock the door next time! Oliver wants to tell her the truth so she won't think he's gay. Gretel thinks that would be dangerous. It escalates into a deeper discussion downstairs when Gladiola, while trying to be tolerant, thinks the Comisario will be scandalized. Oliver is a good cop and doesn't want his career to go down the drain. So how about if he and Manolo make it a "formal arrangement" and Glad can be the "madrina" (attendant for the wedding). Impactada looks all around.

Delicia has escaped from behind the curtain and is now foraging in Nereida's room looking for the missing invitation. Instead she finds the DVD of Mauricio and Kristel working on their Kama Sutra skills. Nereida arrives. Delicia ducks in a closet. Nereida hides some more filched silverware under her mattress and dreams of the day when she'll have a little well-appointed bungalow of her own, no doubt.

More bickering in the hospital lobby. Fedra has now arrived which sets Netty off on a new rampage. Ilitia interrupts to ask where Emanuel is. Fedra is on the trail, finding him in Vicky's room about to kiss her and has a conniption fit. Why is he hovering over that "trepadora"?!!! (social climber and also a word used in every telenovela I've ever watched. Must be a lot of social climbing going on in Mexico these days). How could he possibly care about that wretched woman who is doing everything she can to harm their family and turn Emanuel against his very own mother!

SHE HAS A CONCUSSION. SHE NEEDS REST AND QUIET, yell Brandon and Netty, barging in the room. Oh my. More dubious bedside behavior.

Fedra and Emanuel take their quarrel out in the hallway where she berates him for seeming to be emotionally involved with that trepadora. And what about his marriage!? Thankfully, Lorenzo arrives at this moment and Eman hands his mother off to skanky father-in-law. She now berates Low for Marianela's survival but they both furtively agree they'll need to proceed to the next fatal step slowly, to avert suspicion. Guess Vicky has a few more days left to live.

Downstairs at the mansion, Benigno fills the General in on the accident, acting out the whole disaster just in case his head officer doesn't understand the words. Keep me informed, announces the old guy solemnly.

More chatter in the hospital. Honestly, staff would never allow all those folks around the bedside at once but let's not quibble. Delicia has arrived and is telling Doris and Netty that she's learned Fedra and Bernardo did all the poisoning. Emanuel had no idea he was giving Mari toxic treats. Why Emanuel wouldn't kill a mosquito, even if it bit him! Vicky conveniently comes to, wants to know how Delicia is so sure and looks wanly thoughtful at this new bit of info.

Now we're at Muñeca's house where Emiliano is cuddling a smiling, cheerful Christian (do they have this kid on quaaludes?) and rumbling his deep, toe-tickling laugh. However his news is serious. Vicky's health is fragile at the moment. But he's also worried about Muñeca's divorce plans. Is this really what she wants? Indeed it is. Aside from the kids out of wedlock and selling her shares out from under her, she's just sick and tired of Lorenzo and no longer wants him around. And isn't that how he's feeling about Fedra, hmmmm? Sure is. He's madly in love with Netty. Like he's never been in love before. (Rather ungallant, given as how he was once engaged to Muñeca. But whatever.) Axel arrives (Excuse me, the door was open) and Emiliano broaches the real reason for his visit. He wants to know if Axel can play at the Benefit Ball. Guitar strumming and singing ensue. Mercifully brief. In spite of the fact that the last chords were wrenchingly off-key, Muñeca beams, applauds his great talent and says Sure, bring it on. Axel wants to dedicate his special song to a special someone. Which Emiliano assumes is Manolo. More desperate sure-I'm-broad-minded-it's-fine from Muñeca. But Axel protests. Nooooo, my special someone is a beautiful, tender, fun-loving woman who has made me see life from a different perspective. She's my reason for living. But you won't find out who she is until the ball. Do I know her? rumbles Emiliano. Yes, you do. But it's a secret. Umhum.

His intended, Delicia, is now chatting with Vicky about the need to gather more info at the mansion and then for dessert, De suggests they view the video of Mau and Kristel cuchiplaneando. Evidently Kristel has inherited Fedra's flexibility because De is fascinated and Vicky repulsed by the athletic goings on. Vicky suggests they turn it off. So use your imagination folks. I'll have to assume there were no rose petals or candles.

Well, Mau is pretty flexible himself, allowing Lorenzo to negotiate up from one percent of the recent Lirio theft to fifty percent after Lo threatens to reveal the scam to Garduño. And he also wants 50 per cent of the takings at the Charity Ball. Fine, but only if Lorenzo plays the part of Lirio. Well, it just had to be after Lo does a credible imitation of Dandy's hapless attempt. Yes indeed, Lorenzo has the build, the height, the panache to carry this off. Oh yeah.

Well, now that Delicia and Vicky have stopped watching skanky videos (do the nurses never check on coma patients?) they work out that Vicky will lend her one of her snazzola gowns to wear and Doris will fix her up completely for the big night out. This we gotta see. Dee fills her in as well about the hurry up wedding plans and Vicky, looking playful, admits that she has a "broma pesada" (practical joke) planned for the boda. Ugh. Still a long way from redemption. That crack on the head hasn't straightened her out yet.

Interesting scene now. Low lighting. Shadowy figure. Bernardo. Looking presidential and menacing. Ruminating on how Lorenzo has stolen Fedra's attention and passion. Feelings Bernardo could never awaken in her. But one day she'll want Bernardo to do away with Lo. And he will. With Great Pleasure.

Emanuel's arrival disrupts this lovely pipe dream. He think Bernardo might have been behind the attempt on Vicky's life. Bernardo begs to differ. And even suggests that he can earn Emanuel's renewed trust by scoping out the real culprit. Furthermore, he gently nudges Emanuel's brain cells to consider the fact that Vicky is really Marianela minus some tonnage. After all, his informant at the airport tells him Marianela is in Mexico but there's never been a sign of Vicky de la Garza's arrival ever.

Impossible. NO PUEDE SER. Yes, with those fateful words, Emanuel confirms for us that he's just another pretty face. No interference from brain activity whatsoever. And there we end.

La Fea Más Bella #185-186 1/26/11 NO, PANDORA! Noooooooooo!!!!!

Capitulo 185.
Read K-Fuego’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Fausto says he was too stubborn and he’s missed his son. Aldo says he’s happy with the life he chose. Fausto gives him a 2-year-old letter.

2. Fernando is dragged out of the bar and returns for a third time, but he passes out. Libardo says he acted like he wanted someone to kill him. Marcia starts to take Fern home, and he says, “Marcia, you don’t deserve this.”

3. Aldo is afraid to read the letter from his cuñada. It says Lenora did it because she loved him too much and was afraid he didn’t love her, so she wanted to make him jealous. At least now he knows she did it for misguided love and not rejection. He asks Lety to stay on the beach with him to greet the dawn.

4. Julieta cries for Lety’s pain, and she cries because Lety told her diary instead of her. Erasmo is discouraged because he can’t find work, and he reaches for the tequila.

5. Fern asks for an exorcism because he can’t take it anymore. He doesn’t want to stay and impose on Marcia. She says that even though they’re finished, she can’t watch him destroy himself.

6. Lety and Aldo greet the dawn. They romp in the waves and he kisses her. In the WATER. They run back to the beach, and Aldo draws her to him again. Suddenly it’s Fernando and they share a long, intimate kiss that springs from Lety’s deep love. On the LAND. As she gazes at him in total contentment, he transforms back into Aldo who just received the kiss of his life. She gets flustered and scurries away.

7. Fern asks why their photo is still on the nightstand. Marcia says it’s not easy to throw away something very important to her, and the heart is a traitor. He asks for a hug. She says now it’s time to think about herself and forget about him.

8. Back in her room, Lety asks, “Why did I kiss Aldo like that if I love Fernando? The only kisses I desire are Fernando’s.” Meanwhile Aldo thinks about that kiss. He realizes that he’s cured; he’s able to love again.

9. In the morning, Marcia brings Fern breakfast and a suitcase to carry all his things away.

Capitulo 186.
Read Alma’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Lety tells Caro that she and Aldo shared a (as in one) kiss, and she doesn’t want to see him again. She regrets it because she still loves Fernando. Caro asks if she’s holding out hope since he and Marcia broke up. Lety says no because he never liked (querer) her.

2. Marcia has a new haircut. She tells MamaT the suitcase was a test. If he takes everything, there’s no chance of them getting back together. Fern starts to pack, looks at his clothes, shakes his head slightly, and says, “No, it’s better to leave it here.” No, Pandora, Nooooo!!!!

3. Caro tells Lety why Aldo is a much better option. Lety says it’s very hard for her to believe in love again. Caro advises Lety to grab what life has offered. Aldo calls to arrange lunch. On the old recap Alma has a Freudian slip and calls him “Also.”

4. Ariel heaps a load of insults on Fern. A: Are you here to defend Lety? F: No, that finished. A: Do you accept that you gave the company to a fugitive? Fern doesn’t answer. A: Do you accept that that woman could be anywhere in the world squandering our patrimonio? F: Maybe.

5. By phone, Humberto tells the board to hire a criminal attorney to file charges against Lety because she stole the company. He tells Fern to talk to Lety’s family.

6. Tom tells the HaHA’s (Happy Hour Attorneys) that they need to reverse the judgment. Lety wants to return the company. The HaHA’s tell him that’s complicated, and they’d have to do it before the liquidation.

7. Fern calls MamaJ. The beating the luchadores gave him is nothing compared to RamboMom. She says he sent her daughter into this hell and destroyed her; it’s a miracle she’s still alive. She’s no thief; Tom is working to get the embargo reversed. It is Fernando who created this mess. She forbids him from calling her house again.

8. Tom tells the HaHA’s that Lety returns tomorrow. They insist that he explains the real story of FI.

Eva Luna #57 Tue 1/25/11 Tantrums and tantrums and tantrums. And then tantrums.

I haven't forgotten! WATCH THIS SPACE! I'm doing the recap right now!
Can Daniel be any more of an idiot? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Eva Luna—Episode 57, January 25, 2011

I'm going to have to streamline some of the scenes and storylines, otherwise we'll be here all day. . .

We recycle the end of yesterday, where Justa is going to tell Don Ricardo her whole story. Then we go to the reading of the will. Then we cut to a nauseating scene where Daniel is apparently suffering from some sort of amnesia because he is treating Icky like she is not some homicidal FREAK.

Justa continues her story to Don Ricardo, about getting pregnant with this guy but he's marrying some other lady so she never told him, blah blah blah.

That FREAK FREAK FREAK Icktoria is talking to Daniel as if nothing has happened, and they are playing out some sort of sick, twisted reconciliation scene, where he asks "forgiveness" for how he treated her. (Whiskey tango foxtrot? For real?) Oh, I can't stand this. You get the picture. It's just awful. Delusional. Whatever. Anyway.

Justa is telling Don Ricardo that she had a lot of resentment towards the father of her undead baby (okay, she doesn't know the kid is undead yet, at least not for sure). She never looked him up, but now the memories are resurfacing.

Leo and Icky are having a discussion about their reversal of fortunes. Icky is actually sounding VEXED that she was sad about her dad's death, and now he does this! Some kvetching about that nobody Eva having more money than they do. Leo keeps on saying he's got a plan, not to worry . . . all Icky has to do is secure Daniel once more for herself.

At the happy pension they're sitting down for a meal. Tony says (in English) "Hello family! I'm so hungry!" but his hunger is suddenly suppressed when Alicia gets a phone call from Eva. He stealthily hovers in the background and eavesdrops.

Basically their conversation is about Eva making it down to San Diego to the tia with the tarot cards, and Alicia telling Eva that she should stay hidden, because Daniel is MAJORLY PISSED at her. Eva looks impactada at this news. Eva wants Alicia to come join her, but Alicia says she's doing okay with her great new job. Then Eva warns Alicia not to trust Tony and DEFINITELY not to tell him anything. Eva doesn't get into details about why, of course. I am not sure but I think that Tony (while eavesdropping) does not hear where Eva is staying.

Meanwhile Daniel is at home, kvetching to Francisco about Eva inheriting all that money. Obviously she was scamming Don Julio too! Daniel is in self-righteous pr*ck mode. So wow, he's going to have to do a lot of groveling later, isn't he? Anyway, Francisco makes a comment that they're going to have to call Eva a "lady" because she's going to be the boss at the company, right? Daniel doesn't like the sound of this.

We then go to a scene were Evil Marcela is having a major meltdown about losing all that money. All through this episode she blames EVERYONE for what's happening, expecting things to turn her way just because she demands it and screams for it. She also makes ample death threats, mostly towards Don Julio (if he were only alive she'd kill him—but wait, she thinks he IS dead because she killed him!) and also she makes threats towards Eva. We first see her screaming at Leo and blaming him for everything and basically having a tantrum. FF>>>

Then we have a scene that drags out throughout half of the episode where Don Julio shows up at the door of the pension, wanting to see Eva. Alicia answers the door and of course is uncertain about what to do. Don Julio is able to convince her that he's not the cops and is indeed that nice old sick dude that Eva was looking after. He really needs to get in touch with Eva so he can help her, but Alicia hems and haws.

Don Julio also warns Alicia that it's very dangerous for anyone to know that he is looking for Eva.

Then we have a series of scenes between Daniel and Icky, where they have this "nice" talk and you know it's all leading up to how maybe they can get back together. I don't think Daniel is ready to think about marriage, but he even (gag) kisses Icky, so he's just totally giving up here. There is a flashback scene where he remembers being stood up at the altar and all the stuff with Eva supposedly betraying him. He thinks this is it, I guess. Icky is all he can get. Then we have Icky (with her mascara getting clumped up a bit with tears) saying that she's worried that he is just settling for her and that he will always be trying to forget Eva.

Icky also worries that when Eva returns he'll fall under her spell again. Daniel assures her that won't happen. (Don't bet on it, dude!)

More with Marcella pouting about the loss of fortune. This time at breakfast, over orange juice, Leo promises that he'll take care of it all and Eva won't touch any of the inheritance. If he doesn't take care of this problem, Marcella threatens, she will. She also says that Icky has got to secure Daniel again.

Down at the house of the tia with the tarot cards (I can't remember her name right now, sorry!) Eva and auntie are having breakfast and talking about that evil jerk, Daniel, who ran over dad (and tia's brother). Eva says that it's hard to believe that the man who taught her love could also be the man who taught her hatred and revenge. Tia sees the conflict here—she sees hatred and love in Eva's eyes.

We have a little petulant scene where Marcella asks an uncomfortable Renata if she knew anything about the will. Renata says of course not, and she's so shocked that she got the house in Mexico. Marcella then starts on a little tirade saying that Renata won't get that house, because everything is HERS!!! HERS!!! Yeah, whatever.

The chofer comes in to tell Renata that a lady is waiting to see her. It's Justa!

Justa has come to confront Don Julio and tell him about the undead baby. She's got a defiant way about her, like she's made up her mind and she's not taking no for an answer. After some back and forth, Renata spits out that Don Julio is dead. Justa is understandably shocked by this. She wants to know where he is buried. (I think this may end up being significant later on.) I was expecting that Marcela would say "Forest Lawn" (they are BIG in S. California) but hey, this is really Florida, so she names some generic sounding cemetery. The sisters have a moment where they express regret at not being able to tell Julio how they feel, but it's interrupted when Marcela pops in, is outraged to see Justa there, and they exchange some words. Marcela tells Justa that Don Julio always thought she was dead in the earthquake. Then Marcela kicks Justa out and Justa casually walks out with her head held high. Marcela threatens Renata, warning her to never tell Justa that Icky is the undead baby.

More nonsense between our Millionaire wannabes (Francisco and Marisol) scamming each other. Francisco is driving in the car and Marisol is polishing her toenails. This is just filler. Moving on.

Eva is having a flashback of all the nonsense that went down with Daniel and his supposed betrayal of her. She then asks Tia Tarot Cards (Tilda) for a reading. Wants to know what's going to happen in her life.

Then we have this whole long painful scene (split up between other long painful scenes) between Marcela and her lawyer. The lawyer looks at the will, it's good to go, he says, nothing he can do, he says. He can't find a way to break it. Marcela does what she has done all episode—she rants and raves and screams at him and blames him for this. He is shaking his head like whatever, you freak, but she keeps yelling, as if by abusing him and screaming at him will suddenly make him find some nonexistent loophole. She even tries to hit him as he tells her that she must face it, Eva owns everything. She even utters some threat towards Eva and her family and you can bet that the lawyer's ears perked up at hearing that. He warns her that she better watch out what she says or she'll end up in jail.

Tia's card reading is interesting. She sees things rightly—a beautiful woman is influencing this man (that's Daniel and Icky is the beautiful woman) and he is confused, but in the midst of this confusion he thinks a lot about her (Eva). But he's also still in love with her. "No puede ser," (It can't be) Eva says, and thinks the cards are mistaken.

Tia is so confused by what the cards are telling her that she asks Eva to re-cut them and they say the same thing again—much money, and not the supposed stolen money but a lot more than that. And there's also that man who is related to the woman who is with Daniel (meaning Don Julio). But he's dead, Eva says. Not according to the cards, apparently! Wow, Eva looks impactada at this.

Don Julio returns to his doctor and is elated. It turns out that he was able to convince a reluctant Alica to give up Eva's location—the auntie's house. Don Julio wants to go right away, but he has a mild episode and is not feeling well and realizes that if he doesn't rest, he could possibly begin to assume room temperature and then what good will he be for Eva. Tomorrow he'll go look for her, he vows.

At Alicia's job, we have Leo hovering over her, sliming all over her. We have this revolting scene where he wants to take her out to dinner and he'll pay. Slime slime slime. This just seems like a standard seduction scene until Daniel shows up and is full of self-righteousness. It all comes out that Eva and Alicia are siblings. Leo didn't know this and looks impactado. But Daniel thinks that Leo knew all along. Angry words are exchanged and Alicia gets so mad that she takes a lunge at Daniel and Leo has to restrain her!

Daniel in full self-righteous mode at seeing Alicia and Leo at the modeling studio. (Click on image to see much larger version.)

Daniel then says he wants Alicia fired immediately. Leo asks to talk to Daniel alone. For the first time probably EVER, Leo actually tells Daniel the truth, but Daniel doesn't believe him! He tells Daniel that he didn't know they were sisters, that Alicia is a girlfriend "of a friend" (that's close enough to truthful) and that she asked for a job because her sister was in trouble. Daniel isn't buying it but Leo says maybe it's good that Alicia stick around, because they might be able to find Eva easier that way. Daniel seems mollified.

Both Leo and Alicia are open-mouthed impactado at Daniel's ranting, raving, and accusations. (Click on image to see much larger version.)

More nonsense with Francisco. He's talking about his problems with Jacky, and she totally doesn't want to hear it. He's trying to say he's in love with Marisol, but Jacky knows it's B.S. He then accuses Jacky of being jealous. That doesn't go over well with her.

There is a brief conversation between Renata and the nice maid (whose name I forget) about Renata dealing with her problems. More filler. FF>>>

At the office, Marcela finds out that her bank accounts are frozen. Curse that Don Julio! LOL! It just gets worse and worse for Marcela!

The end of the episode!

Triunfo del Amor #17 1/25/11 Eh. Nothing Special. Fer Disappears and Reappears. Victoria Cries and Gets Mad. Same Old.

Tues
• Bear-nada-de-Juan Pablo is creepily swearing to avenge Victoria very soon. In the morning, she tries to assure JP that she did everything to keep him on the path for which he was born--that of God. JP says he would never leave his vocation, but he's going to find this girl (his daughter). Bernarda doesn't object and asks if she's forgiven. He says yes. Oh, how noble. Not. Idiot. Wait, there's more. He says she should hope God forgives her.

•Linda is putting on tights under her skank dress and asks how she looks. When Nati calls her out on her skankiness, she insults her, and Maria jumps to defend Nat. Maria further asks how she paid for her dress cause she knows it's expensive. Juan Jo gave her money. She says he was too willing to be with her.

•Speakin of the demonio, he's at the door. Juan Jo thinks Linda looks great, and he wants to take her to the movies. She lies that she has an interview and runs out. Juan Jo is disappointed since he already bought non-refundable tickets. He asks Nati to go with him. She happily accepts. Poor girl.

•JP goes to Vicki's house, but he meets Osvaldo instead. Os welcomes him warmly, and asks if he can help since Vicki's gone. JP says he'll come another day. Fer screams from upstairs about being detained at home, and Os apologizes to Padre for her behavior. Ya know how kids are...[Kids that don't get smacked when they deserve it? Yes, I know how they are.] JP says np. Os walks him out.

•Fer's on the phone, planning on running away with the stupid tattoo guy.

•Vicki is yelling about Federico's dad wanting money from her. She can't stand Fer being with his son. Her past is back to haunt her.

•Federico's dad tells Fed to marry Fer. Fed thinks that's too fast, but his father shakes him up and has the final word.

•Maria and two other models practice walking. Max comes in, and the two models ooo and aaa the guapo. They missed him. Maria looks understandably uncomfortable. Max jumps on stage and fakes being formal with her. "Hello, Maria...Desamparada, correct?" he kisses her cheek.  She excuses herself.

•Maria is in the bathroom being annoyed. Max comes in to explain himself amidst many besos. He says it'll be obvious something's up if he acts differently, and Maria need not fear cause she's the only one he loves. Kiss. Maria smiles and asserts that she feels really uncomfortable seeing him so close to those girls. Max laughs. He likes having a jealous girl friend/fiance. Max starts to leave before anyone suspects somethin's going on, but Maria wants to know who Jimena is. Max laughs uncomfortably this time. It's a long story that he'll tell her, but he wants Maria to know that he only loves her. No one else. Kiss. Max tries to leave, but Maria asks about someone else. "Who's who?" Max says, like a little boy who doesn't want to answer. "Who loves you most?" Maria smiles. Kisses. Max finally leaves. Maria smiles.

•More revenge talk from Bernarda. Screaming. Yelling. Throwing pillows. She wants peace...okk...she needs help.

•Pepino tells Maria and the other two models about a soon-to-be-coming fashion show. They should prepare themselves cause one of 'em will be the show stopper.

•Max goes to Fer's room and discovers she's missing. He calls Victoria home. Next thing ya know, they're both in Fer's room. Victoria's sure she went with the stupid Fed. Max finds his address (ok, what girl in this day and age writes her bf's wherabouts on a piece of paper?) and is ready to approach the imbecile. Vicki snatches the paper and says she'll do it. Max wants them to go together, but Vicki warns him not to follow.

•Fed's dad is surprised to see Victoria at his door. What surprises him even more is the slap he gets! That was a good one. Vicki demands her daughter back. She forbids him from doing to her daughter what he did to Vicki. He denies having such thoughts of his son's fiance. Vicki slaps again. FER IS NOT MARRYING HIS SON. He threatens that he'll tell all about her past. She doesn't give a damn anymore. I guess there's no statutory limit (which I don't mind; I watch too much Law and Order: SVU to have sympathy for criminals) cause Vicki says he'll go to jail for what he did to her. She searches the house.

• Fer and Fed come in right then, laughin and all. Victoria grabs her rotten kid, who fights a little. Fed tries to talk to Victoria, and she smacks him too. Is Fer next?! That I want to see. She's dragged home for now.

•Os tries to hug the weeping Fer, while Victoria pushes her around and demands that they talk NOW. Osvaldo and Max pity Fer.

•Milagros describes that old fire man's potential mate (herself) to him. She tries to kiss him, but Juan Jo comes home.

•Vic gives that guilt trip that all girls get in their lives. "This is how you repay me for loving you...?" She tells Fer she's the only daughter she can love. Os asks Vicki to stop with the anger. She says ok, but keeps her attitude (understood) and tells Fer that her parents are not her enemies. They just want to protect her. Fer cries.

•Same old Osvaldo topic at Maria's apartment. Linda's a skank. Blah. Blah. Maria angrily leaves, and Nati asks if Linda really loves Os? Nope. She just likes him. Especially his wallet. She'd marry Juan Jo only if he were a millionaire.

•Fer cries about wanting to be the boss of her life. Victoria starts to say something, but Max gives her a look that tells her he'll handle it. Os and Vicki leave, and Max starts talkin. He understands Fer because when he was her age, he went through the same thing. He rebelled too, and he was expelled from high school. The only person who understood him then was Fer. She was just a kid, but she was with him. What happened to that intelligent little girl? She hugs him and cries. He tells her that they love her and want to protect her. Fer loves Max very, very much.

•Linda calls Os. They're going to meet in awhile.

•Victoria and Os apologize to each other for their attitudes. Os tells her that he loves her and always will. They kiss, and Max walks in, coughing to make em stop. He apologizes for interrupting but is glad that they're happy. Anyways, he talked to Fer as a friend, and he thinks she'll reflect. Os thinks she's a smart girl and will too. Max and Os talk Vicki into unpunishing her. Max thanks her and goes off for work. Vicki tells him they'll go together, but he rejects the idea with smiles. Os tells Victoria that JP came. He wonders why she's nervous, but she says she just doesn't get along with the padre. Os is confused since JP seemed so nice.

•Max picks up Maria in his car.

•Victoria tells Antonieta that JP came and spoke with Osvaldo. They're scared he'll bust her out. Luci calls Vicki qnd lets her know JP is here to see her.

•Os tells Linda that it's over. He loves Victoria.

•JP apologizes to Victoria again. She tells him he can't understand her suffering and hatred. She won't let him have peace of mind from forgivness. He says he'll help her find her daughter. She doesn't need his help. She's done all she could, and she's lost her little Maria.

•Maria Desamparada tries on a dress. Antonieta whispers to Pepino that she reminds her of Victoria! Hey, did it occur to you that she's an orphan of 18-19 years named Maria? Nope.

•JP won't be at peace until Vicki is united with Maria.

•Juan Jo beats the crap out of thugs that try to rob a vulnerable Linda. Linda tells him that she loves him.

•Victoria tells Antonieta that JP sincerely told her that he'd help find Maria.

•Bernie acts outraged when JP says he's looking for his daughter. She tries to convince him out of it. She thinks he'll be thrown out of the church. He's gonna accept the obligation. Bernie is PO that she raised a responsible adult. She'll never speak to him again if he continues like this.

•Max sneaks up on Maria at work and kisses her. They break away when they hear Pepino, who wonders why Max is with Maria. Max says he's lookin for Fabian. To Maria, he says, "Chow, bella." Pepino smiles knowingly.

•Fer on the phone with Fed. She says she's not going to be punished as long as she leaves him, but that isn't happening. They think of how to meet. She's going to pretend to go back to school.

•Linda cries to the roomies about what happened. Juan Jo saved her life. She wishes he had money. Ditz. Nati tells her to be honest with him. Linda adds that Os left her. (She's horrible at crying.)

•Creepy Bernarda again. She's not going to permit JP to lose his priesthood. Victoria is gonna pay.

•Victoria hugs her Maria's doll and cries "hija." Luci tells her someone is there to see her. It's Bernie!

Sweet WL in a kayak. ;)

Llena de Amor #115 (Mex. 120) Tue 1/25/11 Oliver finally solves the liars-and-truth-tellers riddle.

Malicio’s in a big hurry to ditch Kristel at the altar and collect on Victoria’s ever-so-vague promise of…not much, really. What did she agree to? Anyway, I guess Fonskanka figures he’ll be able to die happy, if the idiot remembers there’s a bounty on his pumpkin head if he doesn’t get hitched to Kristel. The frootloop fresa is so charmed by her cheatin’ Cheetoh, she agrees to a wedding the next day.
Over at the pensión, Malicio’s intended booty prize and her low-flow-showerhead hair are sobbing and will someone please put on a different record? This one keeps skipping. Emanuel stands there and listens to his barely-disguised beloved tell him yet again that he’s a low-down bastard thieving murderer, as bad as his mother or even worse. He’s heard all that before, but it’s news to him that Marianela was poisoned by the chocolates he gave her. He denies having anything to do with that. He would never hurt his gordita! Never! “Your gordita hermosa is dead,” Victoria says. Emanuel reels, but seems to get that she’s speaking metaphorically, I think. “Admit that you’re guilty of trying to murder her!” “The only thing I’m guilty of is loving Marianela more than anything else!” MariVicky stares at him, with his tears and pain mirroring her own. Does she soften a bit? He leaves.
Fedra staggers out of Lowrenzo’s blechelor pad bedroom, giving a rave review. She tells him not to worry about being left out on the street. She’s got a new business venture, a luxury resort in Cancún, and she needs sucios, ermmm, socios (I think we can assume she’s already got all the sucios she needs). Fedra tells Low to get as much money out of Muñeca as he can before the divorce, to invest in her project. Low thinks Fedra should give him a piece of the action as a gift. She reminds him that this is an investment not just for himself, but also for his daughter. Not that she deserves it, says Low. Fedra sniffles that someday that pair of ingrates will pay, and Emanuel will be on his knees begging her forgiveness.
But let’s look at a cuter pair for a few minutes. The champagne Axel pours for a toast at their romantic dinner makes Delicia cough and choke, but no matter. He asks her again to go to the benefit party with him. That’s just for starters, though. Every day forever after, he wants to make her feel like the most special and important woman in the whole world. Delicia finally agrees. Much happiness.
Haven’t we seen this scene before? Manolo hauls falling-down-drunk Oliver into their bedroom, drops him on the bed, and falls on top of him. Oliver hollers for more booze, but Manolo tries to convince him to settle into bed. “If you were a woman, I wouldn’t put up a fight,” Oliver slurs. Tempting, but Manolo struggles to stay in character as Oliver laments that he spent so much time searching for his Gretel, and then she stabbed him in the back again. GretelMan struggles in silence, resisting the urge to put Oliver out of his misery. Don’t resist, GretelMan. Oliver cries that Gretel never loved him, never. Manolo gives him a hug, under the pretext of helping him take his jacket off. “But you care about me, right? You love me. I remember you said you did.” GretelMan agrees this is true. “And you’ll never hurt me. It’s weird, I get so jealous when I see you with someone else,” Oliver drunkenly babbles. He grabs Manolo and plants a big kiss right on the smacker. “You liked that, right?” Oliver says. He goes for seconds but Manolo pushes away. “I can’t continue this farce. You and I have to talk. I can’t keep deceiving you.” Gretel pulls off the mustache and wig, but Oliver has fallen asleep. Gretel kisses him and wonders if telling him the truth is a good idea (lemme help you out here, Gretel – YES!).
He-manuel is on the hunt, and he’s loaded for Spiderus. Ron-Weasley-torture-size Spiderus. “I KNOW you were the one who poisoned Marianela! Tell me the truth!” Eman yells, and Mild-Mannered Bernie tries to play the put-upon innocent. “You used me! You knew Mari trusted no one in the house except me, and you knew I gave her chocolates! You poisoned them! Tell me everything!” Uh, sounds like you’ve got it all, Eman. Bernie distracts Eman momentarily and runs away. Good luck getting away from a world-class athlete, stodgy Spidey.
MariVicky sobs in bed and whines about that liar Emanuel and Doris tries to calm her down. Netty comes in and is sad that she didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to that nice boy Emanuel. MariVicky is irate that Netty believes him. Netty says she’s found out that he didn’t hurt Marianela and he’s totally decent, and she believes in admitting when she’s made a mistake. MariVicky says if Marianela were here, she’d be furious at her auntie’s betrayal. Emanuel is a MURDERER!
Spidey runs down the hall and hides around a corner. Whew, safe. Emanuel casually strolls up, grabs him, and demands an explanation. Spidey employs Fedra’s tried-and-true Deny, Deny, Whine and Deny trick. While Eman’s warming up to beating a confession out of him, Fedra walks in and asks if he’s drunk. No, he only wishes he were, so he could escape this nightmare. He tells his mother to admit she ordered her mutt Bernie to do the dirty work and kill Marianela. Of course Fedra won’t admit this, only that she wanted Mari out of her way. Eman warns them that when he gets proof, he’s sending them to jail. {Emanuel. Take note. As has been discussed on this blog: You don’t tell your enemy, “Ha! I have a knife!” You stab them, and THEN you say, “Ha! I have a knife!”} Eman heads upstairs, where I hope he plans to sleep with one eye open and his finger on a trigger.
Next morning, wedding day? Not so much. Fedra puts the kibosh on Malicio’s and Kristel’s plan. Los Ruiz y de Teresa are super fancy big important uppity people; they can’t just get married like it’s nothing, without pomp and circumstance and announcing it to all the fancy folk. Mauron suggests they announce the wedding at the big benefit event.
Over at the agency, MariVicky wears terrible-looking bloomers with a tank top that just looks grungy, and Emanuel announces to the gathered staff that Marianela is now the majority owner of the business and Victoria is representing her shares. Subtext: You’d better suck up to this raging icy beyotch, even though we’d all like to chuck her out on her magic pull-out hair. Vicky reminds them all that they need to work super hard, because they’re way behind on preparations for the benefit. She does not mention that they’re behind because the management spend all their time fighting amongst themselves. Emanuel tells them all to rest up over the weekend so they can hit the ground running on Monday. Victoria says no way; they’re all working this weekend. Ilitia is mad. I’m not sure why she’s even there, but she’s mad. So is Eman, but he isn’t in charge anymore.
Oliver wakes up with GretelMan wrapped around him and holding his hand. GretelMan wakes up and immediately lets go. “Don’t let go of my hand! Can’t you see I’m suffering?” Oliver has definitely gotten over his squeamishness. GretelMan asks him if he remembers kissing him the night before. Oliver says he was drunk, but if that’s what it takes to get Gretel out of his head, then so be it; he’s ready for a repeat. Manolo jumps away and tells him to try to understand Gretel. Oliver is hurt that she’d do that to him, dance nearly nekkid for a bunch of posh old geezers just to mock him; it’s like she’s spitting in his face. “You’re an idiot. You couldn’t see an elephant if it were right in front of you,” Manolo points out. “What would you know about it? I wonder whose bed she slept in,” Oliver snerks. “Gretel never stopped loving you, not for a single instant,” Manolo says, and then pulls off the wig and mustache. “Well, guess whose bed I slept in, and who I slept with? The same man, Oliver Rosales, I want to love for the rest of my life.”
Emanuel tries to negotiate with Vicky about the work schedule. She says that even though he’s the absolute worst person in the world, she admits he’s indispensable in this business, so she’ll tolerate him. He says he’ll save her the trouble on the weekend; he won’t be here. Ilitia interrupts to ask Vicky where she got her makeover…because she looks terrible and Ilitia wants to be sure she never goes to that place. MariVicky ignores that and asks Eman why he can’t work on the weekend. “Well, some of us have lives, which you would know nothing about, and my lovely wife and I are going to the beach to enjoy a honeymoon.” He and Ilitia smooch to emphasize the point. Mari fumes.
MariVicky tells Emanuel the only excuse she’ll accept for his not working is that he’s dying, and unfortunately, he appears to be in excellent health. Eman says too bad; he promised his wife the vacation, and that’s his priority. Emanuel and Ilitia sashay off, and Marianela manages to shake with rage while simultaneously looking like a wax statue of herself.
Not quite the happy reunion Gretel was hoping for. Oliver is sobbing, but not out of joy. “How could you?! You’ve been here for weeks, sharing my room, and you never told me the truth?!” Gretel wants to explain. Oliver doesn’t want to hear it. “All the love I had for you, you killed with your lies and deceits. Get out!” Gretel finally insists on explaining: “I didn’t want to leave you! I’ve been locked in the cellar for TWO YEARS, with no window, nothing! It took me two years to get a chance to escape! I had to leave you, because Fedra said she’d kill you if I didn’t!”
Fedra sobs to her loyal lackey…boo hoo hoo, her son betrayed her and he has to pay, it’s all Marianela’s fault, she wants to see that girl dead and roasting in an incinerator, but first she wants her to suffer. Bernardo worries what will happen if Emiliano finds Marianela first. Fedra agrees that’s a possibility, thanks to that wretched Victoria de la Garza. She knows about Fedra’s past! She knows about La Mala Noche! She’s got to be eliminated. Bernardo calmly pours Fedra a drink and says it’s a good thing she’s got her lover on the job, then. Better hope he gets it done right and doesn’t hurt Fedra more than he helps her. “You’re such a pessimist. He and I see the glass half full, and you see it half empty,” she snarls, swiftly making the glass totally empty. Fedra’s optimistic view is that if la albóndiga and el espagueti (the meatball and the spaghetti, i.e. Marianela and Victoria) turn out to be the same person and Lowrenzo kills her, it’s a two for one! The sale of the week! The war is on, to the death. Fedra murderously eyes another glass of hooch.
Axel is helping out at the agency. He brings the benefit invitations to Muñeca and gets to take one. Hmm, wonder who he’ll give it to. Lowrenzo walks in. “What part of ‘you’re out of this business and out of my life’ didn’t you understand?” He tries to smooth-talk her, but she just points out she could charge him with fraud. Instead, she’s just going to have him sign the divorce papers, and then he’s out of her life the same way she found him, without a centavo. She’s reached her limit. He says he is not agreeing to the divorce. She whips out her checkbook. “How much for you to disappear?”
Oliver is still wrapping his mind around the levels and layers of Gretel’s lies. They’re both crying, remembering the cruel things she said to him. Gretel says Bernardo was spying to make sure she did it. If she hadn’t, they would have killed him for sure, and she never could have lived with the guilt. “But you did kill me! That day, you wounded me so deeply I will never recover!” Gretel says she did it because she loves him, but if he wants her out of his life, she’ll go. She walks to the door. “No! Don’t leave me again!” Oliver grabs her and we finally have our happy reconciliation, with passionate smooching and everything.
Lowrenzo drives a hard bargain. Muñeca is so eager to be rid of him that she agrees to give him her remaining shares in the agency. But she’s keeping the kids. He argues that Cristián is his child, not hers. “Well, try to take him. Just try. But I’ll leave you in the street if you do. Keep in mind we’re married por bienes separados. I don’t have to give you anything.” Lowrenzo is in a quandary, now. The kid or the money? “Well, for the moment anyway, I’ll leave you your office, and your three pens and four pencils. Have a nice day!”
Let’s take a trip to the beach. Honeymoon time. Our not-so-newlyweds are dressed for the tropics and admiring the ocean view. Emanuel wants to go run on the beach. Ilitia thinks they have better things to do. “Remember our beach vacation, before?” Of course Emanuel remembers. He imitates Ilitia: “Baby, it’s too hot. The mosquitoes are biting me, Baby. Baby, the bed is too hard; how am I supposed to sleep here, Baby? It’s horrible, Baby, Baby, Baby.” Ilitia protests that she doesn’t talk like that. Besides, they’re in a five-star hotel this time. It will be way better. Straight off, it doesn’t look like it will be much better; Emanuel isn’t listening to her, and she starts whining that his mind is elsewhere, Baby; he’s probably thinking of the agency and that wretched Spanish girl, Baby. Emanuel distractedly says he wants to go down to the beach.
The agency crew sets up for the party while MariVicky rants and whines and does nothing helpful. Doris deduces that she’s annoyed that Emanuel is off on a romantic vacation with his wife. “I don’t care what that jerk does with his life,” Mari protests. Uh-huh, sure, Doris rolls her eyes. Meanwhile, Lowrenzo climbs up into the catwalk. Doris and Mari bicker about Mari’s feelings while Low cuts something. Doris shrieks, but Mari does not see the light, either literally or figuratively, and get clonked on the head.
At that moment, Emanuel and Ilitia are smooching on some bridge, but Eman’s psychic connection tells him something is wrong. He tries to explain, but Ilitia just thinks he’s nuts. He wants to call the agency, but Ilitia stops him. She thinks it’s time to get busy. She doesn’t give him Kristel’s “FOCUS!” speech, but he tries to get into the swing of things anyway.
Everyone in the publicity agency is freaking out, but it seems they might actually be calling for help. Someone even says, “Don’t move her! Don’t move her!” Good grief, have telenovela writers finally learned something about first aid? Lowrenzo sneaks out the door…and runs into Emiliano on the sidewalk. He claims he’s just upset about his issues with Muñeca. Emiliano doesn’t want to get involved. The ambulance pulls in as André carries MariVicky outside. So much for not moving her. They explain what happened and Emiliano is furious about the sloppy safety violations.
Emanuel and Ilitia make out on the pier thing. Eman’s phone rings but Ilitia takes it away and throws it in the water, making a HUGE splash which washes up over the pier from both sides. He freaks out.
André leaves Emanuel a message about Victoria’s accident. Emiliano is heading out to the hospital. Netty appears in the lobby and tells Emil they have to talk. He tells her about Victoria’s injury. She tells him anything that happens to Vicky is his fault. His and his nefarious family’s!
Emanuel and Ilitia make out in the water. He gets bitten by a cangrejo (crab). But he is tough, so ni modo. Ilitia, however, is a bit uncomfortable with the idea of getting it on surrounded by cangrejos and tiburones (sharks). She’d rather head back to the hotel, all civilized with nice sheets and everything. She tells him she never wants to be with anyone but him, and nothing will separate them, ever.
Emiliano declines to accept responsibility for what happened to Vicky. Netty yells at him all irrationally. His witch wife won’t rest until Marianela is dead, so she must be behind everything that goes wrong.
Ilitia and Eman haven’t made it back to their room; they’re on the beach, but Ilitia seems to have been bitten by something. Eman tries to kiss it all better. He gets a phone call (on what phone, I’m not sure), and when he hears what happened, he says he’s on his way back to the city.
Avances: Emanuel hovers over MariVicky’s hospital bed, and she deliriously tells him she loves him.

La Verdad Oculta EP91 01/25/2011 – Carlos and Adolfo love Yolanda; Viewerville loves Julio Alemán

*At Zaida’s Psycho Eddie and Milady de Braless have a pleasant night filled with bickering, drinking, and meaningful, lustful looks, and eventually in the bedroom they discover they have much in common. Sexy sax time. In the meantime Yolanda’s maid calls Carlos because she’s very worried about the lady. Back to Zaida. After the exercise the exhausted lovers discuss why Zaida freaked out at Elsa’s, and Édgar learns about a letter that is very important for the woman.

* Carlos arrives at Yolanda’s condo, breaks the locked door of the bedroom, and when he realizes she tried to kill herself, he desperately tries to wake her up. At Zaida’s Elsa shows up to reproach her for manhandling Caramelo. Oh come on, they were just playing, that fool JJ misinterpreted the situation! Really? Elsa doesn’t know who to believe but she surely doesn’t want to see Édgar in her flat again. After she leaves Eddie asks Zaida if she wants to enter Elsa’s flat to look for the letter. And how? Don’t worry, Eddie knows how to do it. Two minutes later he’s in front of Ulises’s door: he pulls a very sad face and then he wakes his best friend up. Sorry for bothering him, but he’s been so kind to him and Eddie needs to speak with a friend… Of course, sit down, and tell daddy Ulises what his problem is. Errr, could he give him something to drink… a cup of coffee, maybe? While Ulises is in the kitchen Édgar steals the key for Elsa’s flat and when his golden-hearted pal returns to him, he tearfully confesses to him he has a very bad relationship with his mother.

*Carlos heartbreakingly cries over Yolanda body until he finds out she’s still alive. Then the frightened boy drives her to the hospital like a madman. Why did you do that, Yolanda, how could you be that stupid, please, react! Although inside he claims to be his son, he can’t stay with her, he has to wait outside. Next morning a nurse tells him the doctors managed to save Yolanda’s life. Carlos calls his tired, disheveled father who freaks out when he learns what happened to his redhead helpmate.

* After learning that Zaida isn’t interested in any kind of emotional relationship, Édgar presents the keys to the lady. However, they don’t find anything in the flat, and they run into Elsa in the hallway – but luckily Zaida manages to distract her with a few sweet words. Worried Adolfo arrives at the hospital where Carlos gives him a heads up. The boy doesn’t like Dolphie’s rude behaviour towards him, and warns him to be careful because in that moment he can’t tolerate anything from him. Finally a doctor shows up and tells the Ávilas that Carlos brought Yolanda in the hospital just in time. They may visit her now. Me first, says Adolfo. Inside he learns from the doctor she’s still in a very bad shape and she obviously has no will to live. He shakily approaches her, caresses her face and begs her: Yolanda, wake up! Please, react. She can’t do that to him, he’s all alone, don’t leave him, please.

* Zaida’s legs, smile and chest show up at JJ’s and gives reluctant and frightened Caramelo a notebook that calms the little girl down. They become friends quickly, and Zaida learns Caramelo couldn’t read The Letter. By the way, does Zaida have letters? Of course, she’s got hundreds! Tomorrow she’ll bring them along and they could bargain. She gives Cara a letter if she gets another in return. *Viewerville: clever* However, the girl doesn’t own the famous letter anymore, she’s given it to Chicles. Oh, no! When Asunción arrives at home Zaida says goodbye to her newest best friend forever and in the garden tries to charm Chicles, too. She invites him for an ice-cream, but the genius mini-goon finds her behaviour suspicious. She convinces him she’s JJ’s friend, they met in Puerto Vallarta, doesn’t he remember her? Oh yes, she came with the man who had that suitcase! Oops. Zaida looks around hoping that nobody heard that.

*In the hospital Carlos is allowed to visit Yolanda at last. While he’s begging to Yolandita to wake up and promising her that he’ll take care of her and won’t let anybody hurt her, outside Adolfo gets a phone call from Eddie who tells him the strange story of Caramelo, JJ and the chalkboard. Apparently Zaida is very interested in a letter. Adolfo’s all ears, and says he needs that letter by any means.

* After having an exhausting night and a VERY long sleep, Juan José and Alejandra declare their love for each other again. Alejandra tells him about the great show Gabriela, David and Mario performed at the council, which JJ finds interesting, but obviously his mind is on something else. Sexy sax time again.

* While Chicles is eating a big cup of delicious ice-cream, Zaida is asking him if he has many letters. Hell yes! And where does he keep them? He hid them. And… What about THAT letter? Where did he get that? He found it in Puerto Vallarta. In the meantime Elsa visits her new favourite boss who’s very satisfied with her work and gives her a check. He asks her about her daughter and her ex-boyfriend (is there any chance of getting together again?), and gives her another name, address and an expensive necklace to sell.

*In the bar Zaida offers 1000 pesos for the letter but warns Chicles not tell anyone about their transaction. His mother and Juan José wouldn’t let him keep the money. In the Genovés villa another trap is set for furious Adolfo who visits FaustiMario. While he’s telling Mario he’s in a hurry and don’t dare waste his time, at the headquarters David and Leo watch them on a TV screen. Mario tells him he has proof that Dolphie killed Marta. Viewerville and Adolfo: yawn.

* Zaida gives Chicles 50 pesos and asks him to go home for the letter. Great! Chicles runs back to JJ’s house, where his angry mom prohibits him to leave the building again. No, young man, you won’t spend your whole life on the streets! While Zaida is waiting for him in the bar, Chicles is forced to study. However, his stomach hurts much, so Lucha and Asunción learn he spend the afternoon with a specific lady. Oops.

* Adolfo finds Mario’s newest accusation amusing, did he seriously think he would fall for such an old trick? But all right, show him that proof! No way, says Mario, but Adolfo knows perfectly what proof he is talking about. Of course he knows it: Mario has nothing! That tumor inside his head surely made him demented! Mario should spend his time with more productive activities. Oh, and one more thing. Adolfo doesn’t believe that a waitress became a professional manager from one day to the next. He’ll find out what happened and he will kick the the Genovéses out of the Campo Real management.

La Fea Más Bella #183-184 1/25/11 Exorcism, Suicide, or Anesthetic?

Capitulo 183.
Read Chapel Hill Fiddler’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Alicia refuses to take Fern’s messages, but he tells her that when he recovers the presidency he’ll fire her. Great scene! Saimon wears Fern’s badge in support. Fern sends Saimon to retrieve his car.

2. Omar tells Fern he was ordered to keep Fern out of bars and get Lety out of his heart. Omar thinks that if Fern goes out with women he’ll forget Lety, since she’s not really a woman. Fern says that neither Marcia nor any other woman can take Lety out of his heart.

3. Fern takes offense when Omar thinks no other man would go out with Lety. Fern holds fast that Lety won’t take their company. She’s a good person and he believes in her.

4. Fernando implores Julieta. “Please, please ask her to give me one more chance.” Tom tells Fern that he talked to Sanchez since Conceptos brought in lawyers. Conceptos now belongs to FI. Fern’s world crashes because he concludes that Lety wants to take the company.

By the way, Julieta is making chiles en nogada, a Puebla specialty that is really delicious but really labor intensive. You can only find it in restaurants for 2-3 months out of the year. In 2008, I had the opportunity to enjoy chiles en nogada en Ciudad Puebla, along with mole pablano. YUM!

5. Aldo shows Lety his dream restaurant, but it’s just an abandoned construction site. His dream died when his wife died. He moves to kiss her and she pulls away. The magic is crushed and he wants to leave.

6. Fern starts drinking hard, straight from the bottle. Omar suggests that maybe Lety plotted it from the beginning. Fern says Omar is an expert at turning him against Lety, and he won’t let him do it this time because he loves her. He still holds fast to his belief in her.

7. Fern jokes to his mom that he’s going to find a priest to do an exorcism, to get rid of the demon inside him. He’ll come back in the morning so they can finish erasing the little that is left of his liver, his heart, and his brain. She orders him to come back and HE DISOBEYS HER!

8. Lety counsels Miss Puebla because her parents never cared about her.

9. Julieta starts to read Lety’s diary.

Capitulo 184.
Read Amanda’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Mama reads Lety’s diary, hoping to help her daughter. “No one will give me the chance to show how much I can love. I will be his shadow and his breath. It will be my meaning of life.” Her reading continues through the episode.

2. Seeing the flask, Saimon offers to drive Fern wherever he’s going. Fern says he’s going to Hell.

3. Omar tells the women that they’ve lost the company. Marcia yells, “Lety wants Fern to kill himself!” Saimon reports that he drove away drunk, and Marcia worries about the image of Conceptos.

4. Miss Puebla quits so Lety says she’ll be the stand-in because Puebla needs her. The bellas and Caro tell her she’s beautiful because of her attitude. Miss Puebla stays for her own sake, not her parents’.

5. Fernando sees Aldo’s boat and complains that boats don’t belong on the beach. Then he realizes, neither do cars. MamaT finds out he’s in Acapulco, and Marcia goes looking for him.

6. Fern sits at the bar and asks, “Why did you do this to me, Lety?” He remembers how much she loved him and bawls, “Only God knows how much I love you, Lety.” He stubbornly picks a fight with six pro wrestlers. His face says, “This is what was supposed to happen. Here it comes.” The bartender says, “They’re going to kill you,” and he answers, “You’re right.”

7. The men pummel Fernando. Lety, Aldo, and Fausto enter the bar, and Lety has a premonition that she’s going to see someone she knows. Fausto hustles them out because of the fight. They drag Fernando into the hall, and Lety wants to help although she doesn’t know it’s Fernando. Fausto makes them leave.

8. Fernando mumbles, “How I miss you, Lety,” and he passes out. When he awakes and realizes he’s not dead, he goes back to finish the job.
