Teresa Fri 8/12/11 #115 Teresa jumps the shark while Oriana lies in wait.
REPRISE: Cutberto, as usual, is shooting off his fat, chismoso, alcahuete (chismoso), mouth about Teresa sleeping with Mariano the day before she marries Arturo. Oh, ho, ho! The problem for our beloved Sharkita is that Sharkota Oriana is right outside her door and has heard every word! Ay Caray!
TODAY’S HAPPENINGS AT HOSPITAL DE SANTA ESCÁNDOLOS!
TAP DANCING FOOL: Teresa tries to tap dance around this little problem, which is pretty hard to do given her present condition, and asks where he heard such (semejante) a stupendous lie! Cutberto tells her Mariano himself told him. Cutberto hasn’t told anyone else but she best not think it’s as a favor to her. He stayed mum because of Mariano. She’s glad to hear that because she’s sure Mariano trusted he wouldn’t be his chismosito old self. Cutberto could have told Arturo and that would have cancelled the wedding then and there. Teresa tries to get him to understand. He refuses to hear her out and tells her not to try to convince him she’s in love with her husband cuz he’s not buying it (esa no me lo compro!) Odiosa Oriana is still listening intently at the door.
Meanwhile Aeeeeeeeeeeeda continues screeching at dear old dad,
“Didn’t you say you weren’t interested in Esperanza’s baby?”
“What did you expect me to say, knowing how this all affects you?”
“I would have wanted the TRUTH! That’s all I’ve wanted from you, but it seems the lies come automatically and you don’t even think about what you say.
Hector the Director who’s been standing by all this time suddenly realizes he is the Director and hushes them, reminding them they’re in a hospital and need to respect the patients. He asks them to please calm down (tranquilicen). So Ruben and Aida bring it down to a very loud stage whisper. He tells her not to get excited and of course she can’t, knowing that he’s lied to her once again. For one moment she thought his imprisonment would have changed him. He had considered talking to her about wanting to be around for…….starts to say her ‘hermano’ but quickly changes it to ‘baby’. She claims that would have made sense and she would have understood…..in time. What irks her are his constant lies. She’s glad her mother’s away so she doesn’t have to hear of this.
TERESA/CUTBERTO: She realizes the error of her ways but it does no one any good to find out what happened that day. Cutberto quickly says that’s true, especially for her. TibOriana still listens intently --- man, she is glued to that door! Teresa says it wouldn’t be good for Mariano especially now that Arturo is more in love with her than ever. He’s not likely to accept any man coming near her. If he were to hear she was unfaithful, he would surely divorce her. However, that’s nothing compared to what he’d do to Mariano. Arturo is a very powerful man and can destroy him. It’s up to Cutberto if he chooses to share what he knows.
CACERES CLAN CRACKUP: Hector looks on, and Juana joins him, as Aeeeeeeeeda asks Ruben how he found out Esperanza was in the hospital. He claims he went looking for her at the vecindad and was told she was in labor. He lies (again) that he didn’t speak with her. He claims he’s not interested in her and is only interested in offering financial support to ensure the baby’s well-being. She asks if he already feels something for the baby. He claims no because he didn’t even have the experience of being around during the pregnancy. In contrast, he was always by her mother’s side. The least he can do for this baby is meet his moral obligation. She hopes he doesn’t fail this baby as he’s failed her. Hector and Juana approach Ruben as Aida walks away.
TIBORIANA’s ear will soon become part of that wall. She hears Teresa ask Cutberto not to take this wrong, but how can he even think to compare himself to the good Doctor Hector. Besides, Juana is very grateful to Hector for saving her life. Thanks to him, she will not remain paralyzed. Oh, and one more thing Cutberto, Juana left just before he came in to go find Hector. So there, mariachi de quinta - NYAH! He begs her to stop already! She makes him feel like a chinche (bedbug, eeww). He leaves to go check on Esperancita. Tiboriana manages to duck out of sight in the nick of time. Cue the modified Jaws theme…..She enters the room and circles our Sharkita, smiling. Teresa wonders why she’s visiting again. Oriana toys with her, mentioning she’ll be well soon and it’s only a matter of time before she’ll return to “her place”. Teresa’s understandably suspicious. Oriana says she’s just there to apologize. She mistakenly thought Fernando had already told Arturo he had bought the house. She admits she was indiscreet and she apologizes. Hmmm, what is TibOriana up to? She’s circling her prey.
HECTOR tells Ruben he can’t give him any information regarding Esperanza & baby whether or not he’s the babydaddy (whaa?). He warns him to stay away from Hernan and Espe. Hernan has told him his side of the story and Ruben doesn’t come out smelling like a rose. Ruben says he’s only interested in finding out about his son. Juana butts in now. Oh, so now he’s interested in calling him his son? He never seemed interested in him, or Espe before. She doesn’t let him talk and says “el padre no es el que engendra si no el que cría” (a father isn’t the one who fathered a child, it’s the one who raises him/her). And that’s why Espe’s so happy with Hernan. Hector jumps in and says Hernan’s intentions are honorable and he plans to marry Espe. Juana points out that each time Ruben comes near Esperanza, she ends up getting hurt. He should just let them be and allow them to be feliz, caramba! Ruben can only wince at her remarks.
MY WHAT BIG TEETH YOU HAVE!!!! Teresa wonders why Oriana has such a big smile on her face. Oriana reminds her she has other reasons for being so happy. Her son’s wedding, for example. Arturo walks in before Oriana can continue. He’s a little surprised to see her there and she tells him she came to apologize to Teresa as promised. She tells Teresa she looks forward to the day when she’s on her feet once again and then leaves. Arturo knows Teresa didn’t believe anything Oriana said. Teresa tells him Oriana only comes by to harass her and remind her that Fer bought their house. She’s worried about what’s to come. Where will he take her when she leaves the hospital? She’s really worried.
BABYDADDY BLUES: Ruben tells Juana and Hector that for better or for worse, he’s the babydaddy, not Hernan. That baby has the right to know his father and live with him (convivir). He wants his son! Juana tells him, “el amor se demuestra con hechos.” (love is expressed by one’s actions) Ruben agrees and he’s very interested in his son, and Espe, whether they believe him or not. Aurora walks up just then and tells them she’s just learned that Esperanza’s labor was brought on because of her argument with Ruben. Hernan feels Ruben should not be near Esperanza. Hector tells Ruben he has no choice but to ask him to leave. Ruben protests, saying this is unjust and he at least has the right to know if the baby’s been born. Aurora tells him the baby’s here and mother and baby are fine. However, because he was born prematurely, he will need to remain incubated.
TERE’S ROOM: Arturo tells Teresa he doesn’t know where they’ll live but there’s no need to worry for now. Fer and Luisa aren’t asking for the house just yet and they needn’t worry about the furniture because they can leave it with Luisa for now. He agrees with Teresa that their situation is far worse than they had originally thought. Fernando thought he’d be able to renegotiate with the debtors to wait but it seems that in order to get out of debt they’ll have no choice but to sell the law firm outright! WOW! No Puede Ser! Teresa is distraught.
LOBBY: Cutberto is overjoyed at the news about the baby. So much so that he hugs Juana while Aurora looks on. He quickly releases her and thoughtbubbles what Teresa told him earlier about not being able to compare himself to Dr. Hector. Since he can’t see Espe or the baby, he’ll come back tomorrow. Aurora invites him to join them for coffee in the cafeteria with Johnny and Pati. He declines and says it’s best for him to leave and wishes them the best, as he looks at Juana. “Adios, Juana.” He leaves but I’m sure it’s not the end of the Mariachi Quinto. Aurora and Juana share uncomfortable glances.
CORRIDOR: Hector congratulates Hernan. Hernan gushes about baby Rodrigo and how wonderful he is. Hector tells him Ruben was there earlier and even threatened to sue the hospital. He wants custody of the baby (en cargo=responsible) and wants to fight for his paternal rights. Hernan is predictably upset.
DEVIL WITH THE RED FRINGE ON – Ruben arrives at Chez Roots to tell her of the birth of his son. She’s already heard this from Fito. He explains about the need for the incubator because of the premature birth (never mind that he caused this) but the doctor assures him he’ll be fine. They toast to “nuestro” hijo. Ruben almost chokes on his wine when Roots refers to the baby as Pequeño Paulo. Ja ja!!
HOSPITAL CORRIDOR: Hernan is vehemently against allowing Ruben anywhere near the baby. Espe feels the same because he’s such a bad example for the bebé. Hector suggests Hernan prepare himself because Ruben has every legal right to see his son while he meets his support obligations (manutención). Neither Esperanza nor the baby need money from that infeliz, says Hernan. Hector understands he wants to be in charge of everything but he can’t wipe the slate clean and start again (hacer barrón y cuenta nueva). He apologizes for being so frank but it’s best Hernan be prepared. The biological father will always be Ruben Caceres.
CHEZ ROOTS: “Whaddya mean, Paulito?” demands Ruben. He realizes he can’t be named “Ruben” as it would raise suspicions but he refuses to name him after her dead son. He strongly believes a child’s personality is influenced by his name and he prefers a name that has no connection with the past. She has plenty of time to think on it while the baby is still in the incubator. He will not change his mind. She gives him her best fake smile, reminding him how much she’s helped him and she asks so little in return.
HOSPITAL: RUH-ROH! Hector and Juana come upon Mariano just as he’s about to enter Teresa’s room. Duh, he was just going to tell her about Esperanza’s baby. Hector assures him they can take of that. He reminds Mariano he had already asked him not to visit her. Now, as Hector the Director, he prohibits him from entering that room again!
CASA BARRERA: Fer asks Luisa if she’d like to live here after the wedding. She admits she loves this house. It’s been in her family for generations but she accepted this gift from him as a means to keep Arturo and Teresa from being desamparado (abandoned/forsaken). He agrees that’s the main reason he bought it. It doesn’t matter to him where they live as long as he’s with her. Would she prefer that they keep his apartment, or buy a new house? Truthfully, she would, at least until Arturo recovers financially. She’s worried about his state of mind, too. He’s strong on the outside but she knows that on the inside, he’s falling apart (desmoronando). He knows his friend too well and agrees with her. He also agreed he and Teresa should continue living there. She thanks him and they smooch.
HOSPITAL: Mariano is still stumbling over excuses as to why he’s knock, knock, knocking on Teresa’s door. Hector advises him Teresa is well cared for by her family and her husband. In order to avoid any disagreeable scenes in the hospital, he will release her from the hospital tomorrow. (huh?) He’s arranged for her to get her therapy at home so she won’t have to come to the hospital. Mariano shakes his head in disbelief.
It’s a good thing he didn’t make it into her room, because Arturo is there feeding Teresa. They talk about the sale of the firm. He’s convinced this is the only way out. They’ll have to economize and scale back their lavish lifestyle for awhile. He assures her they can rebuild but for now they’ll only employ her father, an assistant and another attorney.
DOCTOR’S CONFERENCE ROOM: Mariano tells Aurora her father felt he was trying to see Teresa under false pretenses. Aurora agrees he and Teresa are up to their same old tricks or she wouldn’t have come looking for him yesterday. This is why Hector is releasing her tomorrow. She asks if it really hurts him that much not to be able to see her? Mariano reluctantly agrees it’s probably all for the best. Aurora’s concerned about Aida. Mariano wasn’t aware she had been there last night. He’d like to talk to her but doesn’t want her to misunderstand. Aurora agrees that if he’d not going to return to her, it’s best he not give her hope. He cares for her and is worried about her especially now that she’s alone. He suggests they go see her together. Aurora just gives him a blank Princess Aurora look.
BABY TIME! Esperanza and Hernan visit with Rodrigo the Ginormous newborn and coo over how little he is (?). She thanks him for caring so much about them. He thanks her for letting him be there and for this baby that he already loves as much as he loves her. There’s only one thing left to do – for her to be his wife!!!! Oh no, he didn’t right there in the nursery! Yes, right here in the nursery in front of their son, he asks her to marry him.
CASA CACERES: Aurora and Mariano pay a call to Aeeeeeeeda. She’s glad to see them since she can’t go to the hospital because of she-who-shall-not-be-named. Mariano steps away to take a call and Aida thanks Aurora for finding a way to bring him to see her. Aurora explains they were both concerned for her and now that they’ve split……..No, no, no – we’ll get back together again, Aida assures her. Now all she needs is for Aurora to find some pretext to leave so she can be alone with Mariano to win him back. Arurora’s perplexed…..what to do, what to do?
NURSERY: Esperanza says yes! HAPPY DANCE, HAPPY DANCE! He promises to dedicate himself to making her and their son happy. She’s happy too and knows the three of them will be happy together. He’d like to register and baptize him as soon as he’s out of the incubator. She’d like to request permission to baptize him now, asap, while he’s still in the incubator. He’d prefer to baptize him after they’re married, officially as his parents. Then they’d have to get married in the hospital, she says. She loves the idea. Their friends on the hospital staff can join them. He’ll get started on it then and afterward they can have a church wedding and a pachanga (party!!) – whatever she wants. They look at each other luuurrvingly and move in for a kiss – but wait! They have to remove their masks! Ha-ha! Aw, so cute.
BACK AT CASA CACERES: Aida is still trying to get Aurora to leave so she can make a move on Mariano. Aurora agrees if she insists but she needs to realize Mariano is still very affected by what happened to Teresa. Aida insists, of course. Aurora agrees cuz that’s what she always does but Aida will have to remember she warned her. She asks if Aida talked to Ruben after what happened last night. Aida tells her he supposedly only wanted to check on the baby’s well-being and that he found out by accident that the birth came early. Aurora sets her straight -- Ruben provoked Esperanza’s parto (childbirth).
¡¿¡¿¡COMO -- QUE!?!?! Oh yeah, Aurora tells her, if he hadn’t gone to argue with her at Juana’s apartment, the pregnancy would have taken its natural course, without risk to the baby or Esperanza. He went there to confront her about Hernan and who knows what all. He had no right to do this since Ruben and Esperanza broke up a long time ago. Now that she’s got Aida all riled up, she decides to leave and tell Aida to say ‘bye to Mariano for her. Mariano finally gets off the phone and wonders where she’s off to. Aida fibs (like father, like daughter) and says Martin called her about some wedding plans but they can do something together. He explains that’s not why he came by. He cares about what happens to her and he was worried about her. She knows he just wants to be friends. But know what? She’s got plenty of friends, so thanks for stopping by, pal!
SHARK THERAPY: Physical therapist is working with Teresa, trying to get her to squeeze some balls (Sharkbyte where are you when I need you!). It’s very difficult but she tells her it will require discipline and patience.
CHEZ ROOTS ‘N BOOTS: Fito has paid a visit to Ruben and Geno, asking for more money. The baby’s in an incubator after all. Less babies+extra nurses+more risk = more money. He understands he needs to wait until the baby’s out of danger, but that requires time and ultimately, well, you know, more money. Ruben tells him not to get carried away (abusar) and reminds him he’s had some trouble and doesn’t have money. Oh yeah, Fito recalls his ex “te despelucó" (literally=de-wigged him). Ruben just looks at him as if to say, “hey, pal, can’t help if the writers wanted me to wear this wig!” Anyway, Fito knows the huera (blondie) has plenty of lana (money). He tells her to give him more money and he’ll make sure she has that baby in her arms.
TERE’S ROOM: Tere is visibly depressed but still asks Luisa about the wedding plans. Luisa says everything is fine and that thanks to Orcana’s connections in the media, they were able to avoid any potential scandal because of Arturo’s bankruptcy. Teresa feels the less people know about the bankruptcy, the better. Luisa also tells her of the plans to have the civil ceremony in Mexico and the church wedding in Spain. Teresa thinks she’s doing this to appease her future mother-in-law. Luisa isn’t bothered by it. After all, she doesn’t have many friends and after what’s happened to Arturo, his list of invited guests is sure to drop considerably. This is doing nothing to cheer up Teresa. Teresa thanks her for allowing them to stay a while longer in her house. Pshaw, tis nothing! Consider it a loan until Arturo is back on his feet which will be very soon. Teresa sees the writing on the wall and is aware of everything Arturo lost. She thanks Luisa for being like a true sister to her. Luisa tells her she loves her very much and Teresa responds the same but thought bubbles: …..but out of Fernando’s life! Cue the Jaws theme. Can’t keep a good Sharkita down for long!
Finagling with Maldito Fito: Ruben agrees they’ll pay him more but first he wants to know one thing: what part did Teresa have to do with Paulo’s death? Fito ponders and fidgets then says he doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Geno fills him in, Paulo blamed Teresa on his deathbed. Fito suggests they ask Teresa, all he knows is that Paulo died --- and Geno interjects, “because of what you sold him! Or what Teresa gave him! Tell me what happened that day. Why did he take such a large quantity of drugs, enough for him to die.” Fito continues to say he doesn’t know anything. He never sold anything to Teresa. All he knows is that Paulo kept asking for more and more and well, he just overdid it that day.
VECINDAD: Haven’t been here in a while. Cutberto is visiting with the Chavez’, giving them a medallion he’s had since childhood. Juana walks in and tells them to get ready cuz they’re off to visit Esperanza (not Teresa?) and her baby. Cutberto is very uncomfortable with Juana and when she says Hector has given her the use of his car and chauffeur, he can’t take it anymore and leaves.
TERESA’S ROOM: Arturo visits with his wife. Luisa has combed her hair and applied makeup. Esperanza and Hernan come by to visit and give them the news that they’re getting married!
CHEZ ROOTS: Aida has come by and Geno is glad she did. Ruben happens to be there because he wanted to talk about Luna Turqueza and she thinks it would be a good idea for the three of them to discuss it together. Body language between Aida and Ruben is very tense. She moves out of the way as he goes by her to refresh his drink. He’s very much at home here and Aida is sure to catch on very quickly. She’s a harpy, but she’s a smart harpy. Anyway, Geno is suggesting they sell. Aida is only to happy to see it fail. If they lose money, she will too, but it gives her great joy to know that Teresa will continue her decline. What that saying? Cutting off your nose to spite your face? What’s the Spanish version of that? Geno wonders about her father’s interests. Aida’s sure he only wants the money to spend it on his hijito. Geno knows the baby was born right? Geno acts surprised at the news and Ruben follows through saying he’s trying to make Aida understand he only wants to do right by the baby and he has no interest in Esperanza. Aida doesn’t let this slide and tell Geno he was responsible for Esperanza going into early labor because of his jealous rant. Geno now turns on Ruben, asking him if this is true.
Hospital corridor: Hernan is seeking legal advice from Arturo, wondering what he can do to protect the baby. Arturo advises him the law protects the family unit and gives the husband custody of children born within the marriage. Hernan and Esperanza weren’t married when Rodrigo was born. Hernan only wants Ruben to stop causing them problems. Arturo warns him that if Ruben fights this in court, he could win. With DNA tests, he can prove parternity without any problems. Hernan knows Ruben will never leave Esperanza alone and won’t let them be happy. Arturo explains Ruben will always exert his rights as a father and they’ll always have problems. Hernan still wants to marry Esperanza asap and register Rodrigo as his son.
CHEZ ROOTS: Now Ruben is pleading with Geno, please, Aida doesn’t understand he has no feelings for Esperanza. He gets frustrated and leaves the two of them to talk amongst themselves. Aida is frustrated as well and tells Geno she’s already proved that he wants that baby and that he is still in love with that tipa de la vecindad! Geno is fuming! Careful, girlie, all that fuming is surely gonna ignite that hairspray.
TERESA’S ROOM: Esperanza and Teresa settle down for a chat as she works on her physical therapy with those balls (sorry, I’m reverting to my childhood here and have to chuckle). Esperanza’s become aware of Arturo’s financial difficulties. Teresa says she knows what she has to do to help him. First she needs to keep that house. It won’t be easy, but she has to do it.
CHEZ GENO: Geno lays the groundwork for the “adoption” story. She tells Aida she’s going to Central America to adopt a baby. She wants to dedicate her life to raising another son. Aida thinks it would be better to do this as a couple. Geno disagrees, that’s not necessary and she’s already been notified they have a newborn ready for her. She’s just waiting for the call to go pick him up. Aida tells her she’ll miss her while she’s gone. Besides, her mother, Geno’s the one she comes to when she needs someone to talk to. When she was dating Paulo, she considered her a second mother. Geno agrees and that’s why Mayra asked her to keep an eye on her. She won’t be gone long. Oooooh these two deserve each other. Make it the three of them, if we include Ruben.
Hospital: Arturo and Armando share a walk and discuss the future. Armando will continue working for Arturo at the same salary. Armando wants to help in whatever way he can. Back in Teresa’s room, Refugio helps Teresa with her therapy as Esperanza tells them of her plans with Hernan. Juana’s sad to hear she may be leaving the vecindad – who will take care of her baby? Teresa cautions her about not working – you never know when your husband’s situation may change. Refugio hands over the medallion that Cutberto sent for the baby. Juana fawns over it as Teresa rolls her eyes.
CASA BARRERA: Luisa tells him Teresa is wondering why he hasn’t visited her. He asks her to come with him (what, he doesn’t trust himself alone with Teresa?). She can’t cuz she’s promised Arturo to help him move stuff out of his office. She talks of how Teresa asked her do her makeup, assuming she wanted to look beautiful for her husband. Fernando gets a faraway look and can only imagine and then says she’s always beautiful. Teresa told Luisa she wants to look as she did before – for a very special man. Fernando just looks at her --- is he thinking the makeup was for him? Egads.
CASA CACERES: Aida comes home to find Oriana perched on the couch. They talk of the bastardo hijo of Ruben’s lover. They’re both glad Mayra wasn’t here to relive all this. Oriana refers to this as just another arribista (golddigger) story. She’s sure Esperanza only wanted money from Ruben, the money that Mayra gave him, and that she’s sure to use the baby for that purpose. Aida’s only too happy now that her father no longer has any money. To top it off, Esperanza is Teresa’s BFF. Oriana didn’t know this! Aida starts ranting – even in a wheelchair, that woman continues to ruin my life! I hate her, I hate her! Oriana tells her not to worry, she’s got everything ready to unmask (desenmascarar) Teresa!
TERESA’S ROOM: The nurse is removing Teresa’s collar and compliments her on her hair, saying she’s going to look beautiful for her husband. Teresa asks her to put some perfume on her neck. Nurse asks if she should wait with her til her husband arrives. Teresa tells her there’s no need. Talk about confidence! Girlie’s in a wheelchair and is still planning a seduction!
CHEZ CACERES: Aida’s dying to know Oriana’s secret weapon. Nothing doing, the old battleaxe says. She’s holding on to this until the right moment. She can’t unleash this weapon now that Teresa is an invalid. She’d just use that to play the victim and manipulate Arturo. No, she’s going to hold on to this little secret for the time being (can there be another SUV hit and run in her future?). She wants Teresa to be fully recovered so that when Arturo kicks her out of his house, she’ll be able to run back to the vecindad on her own two feet!
THE FLY ENTERS THE SPIDER’S PARLOR! Oh please! She tells him she’s so happy to see him she’d love to hug him but seeing as she’s immobile he’ll have to hug her. He reaches down and hugs her, gets a big whiff of that Love Potion #9. He straightens up, or tries to cuz his pants are on fire, and pushes back his hair. She tells him she’s getting better little by little. Why, she even has sensation in her little ol’ shoulders! Why doesn’t he scoot on over and put his hands on her shoulders. He does so and she ooh, and aahs about how good that feels and he is just aflame!!! Ok, my beanie is working overtime here. There’s just no way I’m buying this but it is Teresa after all. She knows she’s getting to him and then says she found out he donated blood for her. He comes around and kneels in front of her, very close. He’s glad he was useful for something. She’s so glad because there’s always been a special understanding between them and now she carries him in her blood. 10.9.8.7.6.5.4.3.2……aaaand we’ll have to wait til Monday!

Cuando Me Enamoro #83 Friday 8/12/11 Another One Bites The Dust (But is it who you think it is?)
Picking up from last night, fate continues to shove Nata into significant characters as she bumps into Marina at the airport. They exchange polite perdóns and go their separate (though unknowingly connected) ways.
Carlos and Matilde are bummed that Renata left; they were both sure that she and Jero had reconciled. Jero says that Nata left him because she could not forget how much he hurt her. Nata didn't leave because she does not love him. Jero, in tears, admits he is destroyed by Nata's leaving. Carlos asks if Jero will try to get Nata back.
Constanza runs into the centro kitchen to tell Chema about Adriana's accident. Coni has to be with Honorio now that the life of his only daughter is in danger. Chema wants to go with her but Coni tells him she has to go alone. She only wants to be with Honorio. Chema wants Coni to share her problems with him now that they are an item. Coni can't deal with that right now and hurries out the door.
Regina tells Gonzo she wishes she could go with him to the hospital but doesn't think it would be prudent. It would cause problems with Fina. Gonzo tells Regi not to worry about Fina anymore. She lied about having a brain tumor. Gonzo moved out of the house and is getting a divorce ASAP. From this moment on, Regi is his partner. Regi cries happy tears.
Detective Cantu grills Daniel at the police station. Danny Boy has a bandaged head but is otherwise fine. He agrees to tell the feds everything they want to know about Blanca but only if he gets to explain it in front of Hon and Gonzo.
Honorio waits anxiously for word on Adri's condition. Matias leaves a message for Nata but doesn't go into detail. Coni arrives at the hospital with Gonzo. She takes one look at Honorio and embraces him.
Mat tells Gonzo that Adri's operation could take hours; all they can do is wait and hope. Gonzo tries to comfort Mat.
Honorio blames himself for Adriana's accident. If he hadn't been so stupid as to trust Blanca, none of this would have happened. Adri was hit because she was trying to help him. "It should have been me! It would not matter if I lived or died! My daughter is so young and full of life. She can't die!" Constanza tries to console him through her own tears.
BSC Blanca reaches a whole new level of psychosis as she sits on a bed and contemplates a lighter. She drags the flame across her arm with creepy satisfaction.
It leaves nasty red burns on her forearm. Then she starts beating herself with a wooden stick (??) and calling herself estúpida. Gah, this reminds me of that scene in Fatal Attraction where Alex sits in a bedroom flicking a light switch on and off for hours.
*Shiver* They both have sick obsessions with married men and both enjoy self-mutilation. They should share a rubber room together somewhere.
Matias finally gets through to Renata and he tells her about Adri's accident. Nata will be there as soon as she can.
The doctor checks up on a battered and unconscious Adriana.
A young woman asks a nurse for information about the girl who was run over by a car. Matias overhears and is on the defensive. He guesses that the young woman must be the low-life hit-and-run driver.
Nata arrives at the hospital and Gonzo tells her that Adri is in intensive care; no one is allowed to see her yet. Nata sits with Hon and Coni and keeps repeating that there's no way Adriana can die. Everyone anguishes in the waiting room.
The young lady tells Matias that her sister was driving the car. She is underage and the accident scared her so much she ran away. The lady says that both she and her father want to accept responsibility for the accident which is why she came to the hospital. Matias softens and apologizes for jumping down her throat. He introduces himself and she tells him her name is Julieta Montiel (Zoraida Gómez, another cast member from En Nombre del Amor).
Julieta says that her family is not wealthy but her father is prepared to pay for Adri's medical expenses even if they have to pay it little by little. Matias thanks Julieta for the offer but they can't accept it. If they did, the police would investigate and Julieta's sister would have trouble with the law.
Early the next morning, the doctor finally has news for the Monterrubios. He tells them that Adri isn't out of the woods yet but they have hope she will pull through. Adri broke several bones, including her left leg, but the doctor is most worried about Adri's spine. Uh-oh.
The doctor says he noticed that several discs in Adri's spine were damaged by the impact of the car. It could effect her mobility but he has hope that it will heal in time. None of the Monterrubios are very comforted by the news.
Marina has arrived in wine country and takes a stroll with Padre. Marina hopes she can do something for the locals who lost their livelihoods in the storm. Padre thinks Marina is just what the doctor ordered. They need a competent medical profession in town. Marina would be happy to help.
Jero leaves on horseback. Lazaro tells Mati and Carlos he thinks Jero is going to look for Nata.
Gonzo and Matias leave to hold down the fort at work so Honorio can devote his time to his hija. Nata promises to stay as long as she needs to.
Ezequiel catches Jero leading Nata's horse Gitana out of the stables. Jero is taking the horse with or without permission. Zeke doesn't like it but he lets Jero go without much of a fight.
Augie's lawyer tells him he's free to go because they don't have enough evidence to hold him. Augie gloats that it's going to drive Jero crazy that he's been cleared of all charges.
Matias and Coni have coffee in the hospital cafeteria. Mat doesn't want Julieta's sister to end up prosecuted, especially since Adri did not look before she ran out into the street. Coni tells him to talk to Honorio about it. Gonzo drops by to tell Matias that they have to leave for work.
Constanza comes back from the waiting room to find Nata by herself. Hon left to make a phone call. Tia Coni asks how things went with Jero. Nata says everything went well but she had to leave Jero. She is not going to be in Jero's life and he will no longer be a part of her's. It breaks Nata's heart but she had to do it. Coni gives Nata a motherly hug.
Karina and Lazaro discuss Nata's leaving the hacienda. Kari can identify with Nata; she could never forgive what Doc did to her. She's going to miss Nata because she made Kari feel happy and valuable. Lazaro tells Kari she is very valuable.
Matias gets back to the casa. He fills Roberta in on where everyone has been the past day. Berta has a smug satisfaction about her as she figures out that Jero and Nata tried to reconcile but failed. Mat wants to end the farce that is their marriage as soon as possible.
Fina puts up her jewelery in order to get some quick cash. She vows that she will get Gonzo back and settle things once and for all with Regina.
Detective Cantu tells Antonio that he has found a guy who was Fina's lover in the past. Cantu is sure this will be the solution to the PepaFina equation.
Padre pays a visit to Jero and introduces him to Doctora Marina. Jero flashes an award-winning grin.
Nata prays about her situation. She is thankful Adriana survived and asks for the strength to move on from Jero. She doesn't want another relationship full of lies and misery. She prays for help in healing her broken heart.
Jero mentions having already met Marina at the hospital once. The pueblo is planning a birthday celebration for Padre and he invites Jero and Nata to the party. Jero fills Padre in on Nata's leaving. Padre's smile after hearing this news makes me think he wants to play matchmaker with Jero and Marina.
Augie returns to his hacienda and Zeke tells him about Jero taking Gitana from the stables. Augie tells Zeke that he is supposed to protect everything that Augie owns with his life. If he's not willing to do that, Zeke can leave. Augie seethes that Nata would want her horse moved.
Jero tells Carlos that he wants to win Nata back but he has to give her time. He and Nata had such a volatile relationship. Jero needs to earn her love and work to keep it for the rest of their lives.
Padre fills Marina in on Jero and Nata's torrid love story. Marina tells Padre she knew Jero because he had asked her to preform a DNA test on Berta's baby. What a small world! Berta was Rafa's novia and Nata's sister. How odd, says Marina. Jero had asked to have the test done to see if Berta's baby was his or not. Padre's gossipy heart can barely handle the shock of it.
Nata turns up at Palacio Monterrubio to have a word with Berta. They have a surprisingly civil conversation. Berta is glad that everyone knows she didn't kill Rafa, even if Jero wanted to have her thrown in jail. Nata says Jero only wants justice. She wishes Berta would help them achieve it. Berta has no idea who would want to kill Rafa but she wants to find out who did it so the two of them can move on from the ghosts of boyfriends past.
Matias and Gonzo both agree that Julieta Montiel and her family are not at fault for the accident. They lay the blame solely at Blaaaaanca Ocaaaampo's feet.
Augie calls La Bonita but Manuela tells him that Nata returned to Mexico. Augie is thrilled.
Constanza brings Hon some coffee. He thanks her for staying by his side. Coni cries that she has grown to love Adriana and wants her to survive. Honorio leaves to fill out more paperwork and Coni is surprised to find Chema there when she turns around.
Coni says Chema shouldn't be there. Hon is so worried about Adri's condition that Chema's presence would send him over the edge. Chema can't help but be jealous that Coni is spending so much time with Hon. He asks Coni not to exclude him from her life but leaves the hospital to avoid causing trouble.
Back at the the police station, Danny Boy tells Gonzo and Matias that he wants to help them set a trap for Blanca. He will tell them anything they want to know about Blanca as long as they drop the charges against him. Gonzo is not pleased but agrees to the conditions so Blanca will never hurt another person he loves. Matias threatens...no warns Daniel that if he double-crosses them, there will be hell to pay.
Fina stuffs her cash into a bag and plans to meet with Gustavo. She wants him to do things her way. He kind-of agrees.
Nata does an eye makeup commercial and gets a call from Augie. She's happy to hear Augie is out of jail. Nata tells him about Adri's accident and promises to get back to him when she isn't stretched so thin.
Gonzo and Mat fill Honorio in on Daniel's interrogation. He admitted to being Blanca's accomplice. Hon is worried about having to trust a liar like Daniel but he understands that it's a risk they have to take to catch Blanca. Hon's main concern is Adriana's health.
Regina, Doña Cata, Ines, and Isidro all stop by the hospital to ask about Adriana. She is still fighting for her life. Regi steps out for a minute to get a drink and Gonzo bounds down the hallway to help her.
Gustavo paces in a remote wooded area. Detective Cantu meets with him while Fina waits in the bushes. Gustavo hands over the paperwork that proves that Fina was the kidnapper. Cantu hands over a check and Gustavo promptly shoots Cantu in the chest.
Ay, dios mio! Fina checks his pulse and is pleased to see that Cantu is dead. She didn't think Gustavo had the guts to do it. He pockets the check and Fina hands over the sack with the money she promised him. Gustavo thinks he and Fina should go on a trip together to celebrate their villainy. Fina says there is a place she plans to visit but Gustavo is going to get there before she does: HELL.
Fina shoots Gustavo in the chest. He wheezes in pain and when the credits roll, he hasn't quite died yet. Just when we thought Fina was down for the count, she comes back with a vengeance! What's the body count up to now?
Avances: Berta pleads with Matias to not leave her, Jero is furious that Augie is out of jail, and Augie wastes no time in acting the part of Nata's shadow.

On YouTube, haguilar78's clips for Cap 53 start at this link.
Thank you, Carlos, for today's pictures. I gather Perla will not be considered for that now-vacant nanny position?

La Fuerza del Destino #7 Thu 08/11/11 La Fuerza de Antolín's scheming
Estela, Juan Jaime's wife and Judith's mom, calls looking for Lucrezia and the maid tells her the family has gone to the US to enroll the girls in school there. She thinks it's odd they left without saying anything to her or Judith. The maid doesn't know when they'll be back, so Estela just leaves a message. Judith confirms that Maripaz didn't say anything to her about going to the US either.
Ivan is grateful to Antolín, but after losing his mom like that, he doesn't want to just take off. Antolín calls him a coward and says it's easy to make money in the US. Ivan knows that most people end up working as pickers or dishwashers…that's if immigration doesn't bust them and send them back. Or they don't end up dead. Antolín backs off and Ivan asks for Camilo's opinion. Yes, Camilo. That dimwit who's been standing there the whole time letting his brother screw his best friend over. Camilo says Ivan's the one who has to decide. Ivan thinks maybe Gerardo would be willing to help him out. Maybe he could even convince Lucrezia not to press charges. Oh, Ivan, I don't know what show you've been watching, but it sure isn't this one!
Out in the hallway, Antolín whines to Camilo about not talking Ivan out of going to Gerry. Camilo says Just because Gerardo was going doesn't mean he's left yet…and besides, maybe he will convince his wife, like Ivan said. Antolín lays a guilt trip on his brother…if he doesn't convince his wife, they might investigate and Antolín could end up in jail. "Do you want to see our mother crying morning, noon, and night?" Camilo doesn't want that, of course, but he knows Ivan will do anything to avoid leaving. Antolín says Ivan is just a coward. Despite being poor, he's never lacked for food or shelter, and he even had school paid for. "It's about time for him to learn to be a man!" Antolín claims Ivan only went after an uptown girl because he thinks too highly of himself…and look where that's gotten him. "If it wasn't for us, who got in there when they were beating him up, he'd be dead by now. Dead! We saved his life. And you want me to pay for that?"
Juan Jaime comes home, asking where Saul is. He saw his car outside, so he knows Saul is home. JJ's pissed that Saul didn't go out to the ranch and prepare a shipment of "hortalizas" (vegetables). Well Saul was planning to go tomorrow. "Tomorrow? What good would that do? The distributor came by for that shipment and it wasn't ready. We lost the sale thanks to you!" Saul was hanging out with some "amigas" (female friends). JJ calls both Saul and his brother a couple of good for nothings. David, the other brother tries to take off with mom to go shopping, but JJ gripes at him for hiding under his mother's skirts. "At least this dumbass spends time with chicks, but you're a 'maricon'" ("fag"). David won't defend himself and this just makes JJ even more pissed off. He gets muted again, for what I believe is the exclamation "carajo" which is just "damn" or "fuck" and which I swear they've used before without muting, but maybe it's his tone? Estela can't resist speaking up for her son, so JJ takes off after telling David he feels sorry for him. Everybody tries to comfort him, but he blows them all off as a glycerine tear of puro dolor rolls down his cheek. Eh, he probably deserves to shed at least one tear with that jackass of a dad he's got. At least he's enough of a man not to need to act like a total asshole just to prove his "manhood".
Ivan doesn't want to run off like a coward! Those guys started it, and he knows he didn't kill the guy. Antolín tells him the "truth"…"It was Camilo. We were on the way to the house and…." Antolín flashes back to the actual truth, but tells Ivan that Camilo took out a knife that Antolín had given him and he stabbed the guy. The reason Camilo didn't tell him is that Antolín convinced him not to. "I lied that it was you to try and save my brother. Don't take this the wrong way. He did it for you, because you've been his friend since you were kids. I'm sure if you turn yourself in, he'll tell the truth sooner or later. He got into this to save his best friend's life. You're alone already, Ivan. Your mom's already dead, but Camilo has a family. And I don't think it's fair that to keep you from getting killed, he should have to rot in jail. Ivan, he did it for you. Aren't you capable of doing something for him?" Damn. Antolín is good! Our Tialoving Abuelokiller has become our Selfloving Thugkiller. Hm. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it. Ivan agrees to go and Antolín gives him an "atta-boy!"
Maripaz is being a picky eater. Lucrezia is being nasty to the help. What else is new. Lucrezia breaks it to the girls that she and Gerry are getting divorced. Mari-the-world-revolves-around-me-paz thinks it's because of her, but Lucrezia says it's been coming for a long time. She starts off saying they came to a mutual decision, but she can't resist adding "And besides, your father has always been a useless…." Carlota shuts her up. "But it's the truth! Thanks to him, we're practically in ruins. He wasn't just incapable of getting us ahead, all he thinks about is working on his own stuff and leaving us with the problem." Clear-eyed Luci says that's bull, that her dad has always loved them and Lucrezia has always treated him badly. Luci storms off and Lucrezia tells Carlota that she'll get over it. She tries to order Maripaz to finish her dinner, but Maripaz takes off too. Carlota leaves next and Lucrezia sits at the table by herself.
Celia shows Ivan where his mother's grave is. He knocks over the vase of flowers that he finds there, assuming they came from Juan Jaime. He bids his mother farewell, saying he's leaving a part of himself with her. He wishes they were leaving together. He promises he won't fail her and he'll do what he promised, then come back to show off and settle accounts. He says he'll fill her grave with flowers when he comes back.
The girls discuss their parents impending divorce. They both agree they'll miss dad. Luci cries her eyes out, but Maripaz thinks it's no big deal. Besides, when parents feel guilty they shower their kids with presents. Luci doesn't care about that. "Well, what do you want me to do about it? I'm just trying to find the bright side here!" Luci can't see the bright side of anything. Maripaz holds herself up as an example of suffering in silence. After all, here she is, stuck in this dingy rathole and you don't see her crying about it. And it's all Ivan's fault! Luci says it was both their fault. Maripaz tries to convince her that Ivan took advantage of her and wouldn't take "no" for an answer, but Luci knows her sister too well.
Ivan packs his stuff and says goodbye to his godmother's family. Carmen and Celia cry over him. Celia knows he doesn't want to leave. Antolín tells him to hurry up so he doesn't miss the bus. Ivan leaves Pipo with the family and Carmen promises to take care of him. Celia gives him a blessing. His godfather tells him to take care of himself, stay out of trouble, don't draw attention to himself. Celia asks him to write. His godfather says when they have enough money, he'll get the phone hooked back up and then Ivan can call them. Ivan walks out with Camilo while Carmen begs God to keep Ivan safe.
Lucrezia says goodbye to her daughters and gives Carlota a folder with information about the phone that's getting hooked up next week. Lucrezia says she's got ot go back because someone has to keep an eye on the ranch. As Lucrezia hugs Carlota, Carlota whispers in her ear that she'd better not even think about doing anything to Ivan.
Antolín tries to convince Ivan that there's nothing to miss about that crappy town. Antolin reminds him to look for the guy in Tijuana who's going to help him. Ivan hugs Camilo. Antolín gets Ivan out of there before he can explain to Camilo why he's thanking him for "everything." Antolín brushes off Camilo when he asks what the thanks were supposed to be for. "Who knows. Well, that's over with now." Antolín herds Camilo back to the house.
Back at the house in town, Lucrezia Borgia finds out that Gerry left and said Alicia isn't coming back. Lucrezia sends Cleto to go to Celia's house and find out where Alicia is.
On the bus heading north, Ivan remembers the good times with his mom.
Lucrezia calls Leandro to find out if the guy died. Leandro says he did, and he's been waiting for her instructions. He thinks someone convinced Ivan to leave the country. "Well, find out and then tell me." And as for the harvest, it's all going well, blah, blah, blah.
Ivan gets to the first bus stop and gets a few quesadillas. A fellow passenger asks him if he's planning to cross. He says he's done it before. Mostly working as a picker, but also some something else I can't quite make out. Ivan buys him a couple of quesadillas. The guy warns him to be careful with the coyotes…"They'll take you out to the middle of the desert and leave you there." Ivan asks how much farther to Tijuana and the guy laughs and says it's a long way and don't be impatient.
Back at the house by the sea, Lucia and Maripaz have a sisterly chat. "So, you never loved Ivan?" "Well, he's good looking, nice…but he took advantage of me! And I'll never forgive him! Because of him I'm going to have a child I don't want! He took me by force, don't you understand?" Luci buys it this time. "Why didn't you tell my mom when it happened? You were with him for a long time after that." Maripaz doesn't want to waste time explaining something Luci wouldn't understand. Luci says she would never want to see a guy who did that to her ever again in her life. "You're just a kid who can't understand anything! Go to bed!" Poor Luci.
Ivan remembers his mom dying. Finally it's just 30km to Tijuana. The guy from the bus offers to write down the address of his cousin in LA, where he'll be staying. Ivan thanks him. They say goodbye at the bus station. Ivan finally exchanges names with the guy, Benito. Benito doesn't recognize the name of the bar where Ivan's going to look for Antolín's contact. He gives Ivan the address and Ivan leaves.
Antolín gripes at Leandro that he's gotten rid of Ivan and convinced him to go the US, so why can't Leandro back off. Leandro is doubtful, but figures if it's true there's someone who's going to love the news. Antolín guesses it's Lucrezia. This pisses Leandro off, leading to another round of mutual threatening, and gets us back to Leandro asking if Ivan is really never coming back. Of course he's coming back. Don't you ever watch telenovelas, Leandro?
Ivan is accosted by a guy trying to sell him dollars. He refuses, knowing the guy's not offering him a good rate. He finds the bar, Las Conejas and meets up with his disreputable coyote. The guy talks to him after he drops Antolín's name. There's a truck leaving tomorrow. They start interrogating him…Are the cops looking for him? Ivan says they aren't. They want payment in dollars and crack up laughing that he's only got pesos. They agree to do it for pesos and tell him to hang out at the warehouse until it's time to go. The driver leaves to show Ivan to the warehouse while the coyote comments to the bad stereotype of an LA gangbanger that he can tell Ivan's high class. "I bet he killed somebody." "Eh, who hasn't?"
Leandro catches Lucrezia up on the gossip. Ivan has definitely left and Alicia is dead. Lucrezia thanks him for the info. She's not going to go to the cops, since Ivan's gone. Leandro reminds her that he owes the guys who tried to help him with the beating. The ever-gracious Lucrezia tells him to take the money out of the "caja chica" (the small box; petty cash), pay the boys, and then make sure the dead guy gets a decent burial. Awww, that Lucrezia. She's all heart. Leandro asks what's up with Gerardo. Lucrezia claims he's in the capital taking care of some business there. Lucrezia gloats and giggles about how lucky she is that Alicia is dead. Hell. Burn in it.
The driver tells Ivan he'll need to exchange his money. Ivan gripes about the moneychangers taking advantage of the "poor." The driver is surprised to hear that coming from Ivan who then has to explain that he's poor too. Whatever. The driver leaves Ivan in the care of the guy in charge of the warehouse. The warehouse guy informs him they leave at 5 sharp and they won't wait for anyone. Ivan asks about a bathroom and a place to wash up. "What do you think this is? A five-star hotel? There's a tap outside, but if I were you I wouldn't waste time on washing, I'd get some sleep." Ivan follows his advice and pulls up a couple of cardboard boxes.
Lucrezia hangs out with Estela and starts spreading the lie that the girls are in the US getting enrolled in school and Carlota is staying until they get settled. Estela thinks it's sad Lucrezia will be all alone, but Lucrezia says the family will be back together again by the holidays. Estela, on the other hand, would love to get away from her husband. Every day he gets worse and she and the kids can't stand him. The other day he was acting like an "energúmeno" (a lunatic)
The truck is loaded up. They stop at the last place anyone will be able to buy food and drink. Ivan asks the driver what happens when they get to the other side. He says the truck can't stay long. Those damn gringos will hear the engine and it will give them away. Damn organized gringos with their helicopters and stuff. The driver says there will be plenty of places to hide and if they have to, they'll cross at night. It will take another 3-4 days. Ivan buys some fruit and water at the stand and convinces the guy to sell him his machete too. Good move, I think. Coyotes aren't exactly known for their trustworthiness. Although, you'd think that would hurt their business if people started to talk about how you don't want to cross with so-and-so cause he dumped a friend of a friend of a friend out in the middle of the desert to die.
Maripaz and Luci walk along the boardwalk. Maripaz complains about how she's nauseous and bloated like a while and it's all Ivan's fault. "I should have aborted this stupid lump!" She's still hanging on to her fiction that Ivan raped her. Luci is back to having a hard time believing it. Maripaz lays it on thick, saying that Judith told her that Ivan had messed with a bunch of her friends, and always the ones with money. Luci insists that's not the Ivan she knows. "You're just a little girl who doesn't have any experience with men. Besides, you've always been in love with him. Go on, deny it!" Luci can't. Carlota comes up and breaks the news that none of the high schools in the area will accept Lucia for just one semester and with the term already started. She's rightfully pissed that she'll be missing a whole year. Carlota says Luci can study on her own. She's gotten the curriculum from the school and bought all the books. Luci complains colleges won't accept that and besides, she'll be bored. "I'm sorry, honey, there's nothing more we can do." She gets a taxi to take them back to the house.
The truck drives on through the night. With its lights on and a baby crying in the back. Yeah, that's real stealthy. The driver stops and tells everyone they're stopping for the night. A lot of them get out of the truck, but at least one guy stays in the back. The driver notices Ivan has bought a machete. Ivan ignores the comment and asks if they're really going to take them all the way to LA or just leave them in the middle of the desert. The driver blows off the question.
Lucrezia is in a foul mood. Cleto tells her that he went to Arcelia's house, but no one was there. Gerry is on the phone for her. He tells her that his parents' house isn't in as good shape as it used to be, but he's put it up for sale all the same and he's staying in a hotel. "Do you want the number?" "What for?" Gerry gives her the number and she lies and says she's writing it down. Gerry asks for the phone number to the house in Guaymas, but she says the line hasn't gone in yet. She agrees to let him know when there's a working phone. Gerry says he'll start the divorce proceedings there in the DF. "Do whatever you want to!" Lucrezia hangs up on him.
The truck stops again and the driver tells everyone to hurry up and get out. He tells everyone they've got to get out of there…there's a patrol on the way. Ivan questions him. "Where? I don't see one." "It was back on the road." "I don't see a road either." "Well I saw it, so everybody better get out of here!" He says he'll be back later to get them the rest of the way across. He talks to them about splitting up. Ivan says he can't do that, especially not to the women and kids. The driver gets desperate and pulls his gun on Ivan. Gee, we never saw that one coming.
Tomorrow: Who knows. I set my upstairs DVR to get an extra five minutes and it wasn't enough. Pfft!

Cuando Me Enamoro #82 Thursday 8/11/11 Woman On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown
Before we get started:
¡Feliz Cumpleaños a nuestra Lila the Lioness! Happy Birthday amiga from all your Caray Caray pals. I just poured myself a glass of wine to toast your health. ¡Salud!!
Let’s remind ourselves of last night’s delightful reveal: Gonzo discovers Fina has been lying about her brain tumor! How will she wiggle out of this one? The records associated with Fina are for a patient who died many years ago. Gonzo is speechless impactado. The good doctor doesn’t know if bad Doc Zuinaga fooled both of them or just...Gonzo.
Regina and Coni talk over a cup of coffee. Regina wants Coni and family to be the guests of honor at the upcoming Festival de Galas for the Regina Center. Coni reveals that Empresas Monterrubio (EM) is in big financial trouble. Regina offers to give back the wad of dough that EM donated but Coni says Gonzo and Hon would never accept it. Regina says “Gonzo never told me this last night when we were...” Oops, she admits to Coni that she and Gonzo have started a relationship. Coni gives the biggest smile we’ve seen from her in a long time.
Over at EM Matias and Adri go out to the corner cafe. They offer to get something for Beth the Receptionist proving what nice bosses they are. After they leave, a skulking Daniel tells Beth he’s going to look for something in the New Files (archivos nuevos). Honorio follows, gets the info from Beth and comments that the New Files are on this floor, why the elevator? He follows Daniel with an angry, worried look on his face. Now Beth looks worried too.
While at the cafe Adri sees something across the street. She says check out the crazy -looking lady and Matias wonders don’t they know her? WE know it’s BSC Blanca in black with big-heeled boots. Dopey Daniel walks up to talk to her which makes Matias and Adri take notice. DD and BSCB begin to have heated words. Suddenly Honorio sneaks up behind them and Matias comments he seems to be watching them (vigilando = watching, following, spying on).
Daniel angrily tells Blanca he no longer wants anything to do with her and that she’s absolutely loca. I love the triptych where we get to see DD and BSCB, Mat and Adri all saucer-eyed, and spying Honorio all at the same time. DD says he hasn’t seen one peso from her and the only thing she wants is to ruin EM, Honorio and his family. She admits yes, that’s true. DD yells again that she’s crazy, he’s going to renounce her, and starts to stomp off.
BSCB violently pushes him to the sidewalk. Ouch, he even bounces a couple of times. Honorio runs toward them. Adri shrieks that it’s Blanca and Nata was right, DD’s the snitch. Matias calls EM security. Honorio grabs Blanca, she grabs him by the ears, shakes him really hard and knees him in the nuts. Loca but impressive. Now both DD and Hons are on the ground. Matias and Adri (who wisely kicks off her spike heels) pursue BSCB with security behind them. For some reason Adri decides to cross the street, to head BSCB off? Oh cripes, it’s Adri that takes a header over the speeding car. And WTF, the driver takes off, it’s a hit and run!
Blanca escapes, Matias and Hons freak out, “Help us! Call an ambulance!!” and Adri is face down on the street. Zowie, what a scene! I need a breather, my heart is pounding.
Over at Misery Manor Gonzo has arrived with a smouldering fire in his eyes. Fina wonders what he’s doing there in the middle of the day? “When did you last see your doc?” he coolly asks. “Yesterday” responds Malafina with a shrug of her shoulders. Gonzo demands that she call the doc. Call him right now.
Adri opens her eyes briefly, Hons continues to yell for help and Matias tells her to hang on (resiste = hang on, fight, hold on, resist). Adri quietly whispers “Daddy I love you so much. Matias, give me a kiss, I’m dying.” Oh hell, I’m tearing up. Matias kisses her and her eyes slowly close. The men yell with renewed vigor. Oh please please please telenovela gods, don’t let our sweet Adriana die!
Things are bit more pleasant at La Bonita. Carlos rushes into the kitchen to excitedly tell Mati that his parents and some of his brothers are arriving next week. Manuela wants to start right in on the menu for the big feast. Mati is concerned about imposing on Jero’s hospitality but Carlos says Jero wants them there. Manuela says Renata will probably return and it doesn’t always work out with two patrones and two patronas in the same house. Carlos hugs Mati and announces his mujer will have her own house. Awww, aren’t they just too happy? Sadly, the answer is yes.
Manuela suggests they move into Kari and Doc Demented’s old house because Kari doesn’t want to live there. Ewwww, the rape and kidnap house? Really? Matilde agrees, that house doesn’t have a good vibe. Carlos says the Padre can bless it, they’ll remodel, he convinces her and she relents. "Wherever you take me I'll be by your side." (A tu lado a donde me llevas, anyone else have a better translation?)
Hons begs Adri not to die while Matias gently pats her hair.
Fina makes a show of calling her doc but he doesn’t answer. The office says he’s on vacation. Gonzo says he’ll give her one chance to tell him the truth. What truth does he mean? “That your illness is a farce, blackmail, a vile and disgusting lie. She’s all sweetness and tears, “but I have a brain tumor, boo hoo”. Gonzo tells her to shut up, he went to the doctor and discovered her brain tumor belonged to another patient. He yells at her not to play the innocent, she played him for a fool, how could she lie to him about being on the brink of death?!?!!
Malafina crumples and her lip trembles. “Yes I lied, I lied,” she weeps. She invented it to keep him close to her and away from that woman. She was desperate. She told her doctor and he proposed the plan. It was all his idea. Who besides me is 100% shocked that serpent mom copped to the deed?
Gonzo loses it, he’s never been so angry as evidenced by his perfectly coiffed hair that is flying out of control. In fact his wrath is positively poetic and I quote:
Mentiste, engañaste, simulaste, te burlaste de los otros!!
You lied, you betrayed, you shammed and deceived others!!
Be still my heart, such passion. Bravo Rene Casados!
Fina whines that she wanted to die. “Oh that you should die,” he accuses. He says he understands why Roberta is the way she is. He now understands very well what Fina is like, more so than ever before. More Fina whining and groping, nobody has ever been more in love than she with him. He demands she takes her hands off his body. He wants nothing more to do with her or her lies. He stalks out leaving Fina wide-eyed and stricken. Yowza, another great scene. But her smirk in the going-to-commercial portrait reminds us that although Malafina may be down she is certainly not out.
Out in the fields Ezequiel has told Lazaro about his altercation with Augustin. Laz says Ez did the right thing, it’s one thing for boss to pay you for work, it another for you to commit a crime. Ez says he did things for Augie he didn’t want to do. Laz asks if Ez had anything to do with Carlos’s beating. Ez shuffles around and admits yes, indirectly, and he’s very ashamed about it. Laz tells his friend he knows Ez, he’s not the kind of guy to go against his principles. He suggests maybe he can find him a job at La Bonita but Ez just shakes his head.
Ez changes the subject, how is Kari after all this business with El Doctorcito? Laz doesn’t know, he thinks Kari still feels something for her husband. Ez can’t believe it after what he did to Karina and then to Alfonsina. He can’t stand the thought of Alf in the doctor’s arms and he doesn’t want her in his life anymore. Sad, lovelorn men.
Jero and Nata joyfully enter the hacienda and even Matilde is happy to see them. Carlos gushes “welcome back to La Bonita” but then gets embarrassed, maybe they should change the name. Lots of shuffling and hemming and hawing, then Carlos nudges Mati, she has something to say.
Amazingly Matilde apologizes to Renata. She thought Renata was the Maldita Bonita but now she knows differently. Please forgive her. Renata says she admired Mari’s loyalty and she forgives her. They hug and Carlos shrugs, “women!”.
Carlos asks them to be the padrinos at their wedding. More good news for Renata. Nata asked what happened to Mati’s “Hermoso”? Mati says he’s all Renata’s. Nata says if she’s around when they get married she would be very honoured. Eh? Jero doesn’t understand? (Carlos grabs Mati and they sneak out.) Nata reminds him she has to return to the DF for business. Jero wants to take care of her and not let her out of his life.
The EMTs put Adri into the ambulance. She’s still alive thank goodness, but the EMT advises they have to get her to the hospital ASAP. Hons jumps in the ambulance and Matias says he’ll follow.
Gonzo’s in his study still seething. Fina slips into the room and begs him for another chance, she was desperate. He growls that nothing justifies what she did and there will be nothing else between them. He feels sorry for her (me das lastima) but they are over, OVER! He’s leaving right now and nothing will detain him! Fina actually whimpers.
Nata is with Kari and Kari reminds Nata she was the first to tell her that Alvaro would never change. She married someone she thought she knew, but she never knew him at all. Nata indicates the same thing happened to her. Kari says but Nata knows the real Jero now even though he was a stranger before. Renata and all of viewerville give a little eye roll to that one.
Nata tells Kari she’s confused, she came to tell Jero that her sister is not a murderer and what did she do? Make love with him. Kari says it’s because you love him. Nata says it’s because she was a little crazy, her head wanted one thing and her heart another. Kari admits she (Kari) understands because she should be by her husband’s side, but her heart belongs to Lazaro. Kari advises if Nata really loves Jero then she should fight for that love. (Well then Kari, you should fight for yours!)
Down in the office Jero tells Carlos that he wants to move forward with the San Rafael wine project ASAP blah blah blah. He’s excited and inspired and says he can’t believe how much he regrets the time he wasted not being by Renata’s side. From now on he’s going to enjoy her second by second. Carlos said he didn’t think Nata would forgive Jero after all the terrible things he did. Jero said he can’t believe it either then joyously describes the overwhelming love he feels for her. Carlos asks what Jero intends to do about the Rafa murder trial. Jero’s going to continue to go after the guilty party. From this moment on he no longer doubts Renata and he can be at peace and completely happy.
Nata’s in her room thinking, thinking about making love to Jero, kissing Jero, having fun with Jero. She paces and then recalls his cruel words to her, when he described her as the unscrupulous murderer of his brother. She’s in such a quandary! She loves Jero, but can she forgive him? She tried but she can’t. She pulls out her notebook and starts writing.
Ezequiel visits Augie in jail to report that Nata is at La Bonita and he was told she and Jero have reconciled. Augie’s pissed off and rages he’s in jail for something he didn’t do! He thought bubbles that he’s got to think of something to separate them forever.
Laz tells Jero he’s come to a decision. The proposal that Jero made the other day about his studies? He’s going to accept it, stick around and continue his studies; he promises Jero won’t regret it. I’m thinking that Jero has offered to help out with tuition because he says he knows he won’t regret it and Laz will graduate at the top of his class.
Back at Fina’s Hell Hole Gonzo’s got his bags and he’s taking off. Fina whimpers and whines. Gonzo tells her to cut the drama. Fina says “You’re going to her aren’t you? You’re leaving here to be with Regina.” Gonzo reminds her he wanted to separate long before Regina showed up. (Um, is that entirely true?) He’s calling Soto and moving forward with the divorce.
Malafina rears her ugly head and snarls she’ll never give him a divorce, she’ll remain Mrs. Gonzalo Monterrubio. Gonzo stares her down. He’s going to do it and he can do it for better, or for worse. It’s up to her. See ‘ya. Her evil eyes hurl daggers at his back.
As Gonzo packs his car up he gets a call from Matias and the bad news about Adri’s accident. He rushes to join his son.
Up at the house Fina, channeling Pedro Almodovar’s Pepa (funny, they have the same name) scares the heck out of the maid by piling Gonzo’s clothes on the steps, dousing them in fuel and lighting them on fire.
She hisses she’ll squeeze everything out of him if it’s the last thing she does!
Who remembers Pepa from Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown?
Inside, Roberta and Sele are griping because they weren’t invited to some party that is the party of the year. (Do they mean the Regina Center party?) Sele surmises that maybe it’s because Berta was in jail for murder. “But I’m innocent!” Berta insists. Their incredibly stupid conversation is interrupted by the maid who shrieks that mom is burning all of dad’s clothes.
Berta runs out and Fina tells her dad found out she wasn’t sick so he split. Also, the business is in a financial crisis, what is she going to do, she’s lost? Berta is shocked about the financial crisis part. She corrects mom, THEY are lost because no way will Matias keep them in the house with dad gone. Fina cries that Berta is protected by her pre-nup but there is nothing protecting her. Berta says she’s not protected, if the bankruptcy starts then her marriage contract does nothing for her. Now if they had some sort of trust (fideicomiso) they would be protected. Fina cogitates and says yes, an inheritance accumulated in a trust would free them from the bankruptcy. Berta says they don’t have that but Fina corrects her, maybe they do. She’ll find out.
Over at the Regina Center Ines tells Regina she feels bad for Antonio after he was so excited about the prospect of marrying Regina. Gina says Tony turned out to be an insecure control freak so it wouldn’t have worked out. Inez hopes Gonzo resolves his problems so he and Gina can have and open relationship. Gonzo shows up and everyone is all smiles. The two lovebirds kiss while Inez grins.
Gina can tell something is up. Gonzo came to see Coni. Coni comes in and sees his face, is something wrong with Honorio? He tells them that Adri’s been in an accident and Coni immediately starts crying.
Honorio and Matias are at the hospital. Hons can’t believe what happened, and all in an instant. He tearfully says if not for Blanca none of this would have happened. Matias says they will look for her but first they need to concentrate on Adri getting better. Hons blames himself. If Adri dies he’ll never forgive himself. All this is because of his stupidity. The men comfort each other, so sweet.
Carlos and Jero are in the vineyard when Matilde skips up to announce she and Manuela have prepared something super special for them and the señora. Jero says he will go wake Renata up from her nap. Carlos and Matilde flirt and kiss amidst the vines and anvils.
Jero finds Renata’s room empty with a note on the pink pillows.
“Jeronimo,
My love for you has been great, no one has made me feel what you do. To make love with you, your kisses, to feel your skin on mine has been wonderful. And I love that we had fire, but I can not be with you. There are too many doubts and contradictions. Something broke between us and I realized that I can not glue it back together. I can understand the reasons why you married me but I can not justify them. I don’t know if it’s my pride or my dignity, but the only thing I do know is that the “we” that we talked about and I thought I knew was not honest on your part. The feeling of mistrust killed something inside me. I have to reinvent myself somewhere else and slowly regain my dignity. And it seems you need to do the same.
Goodbye Jeronimo,
Renata”
Renata, she of the fortuitous airport barging, is at the Tijuana airport and this time barges right into Doctora Marina Sepulveda. They good-naturedly check each other out, oblivious to the fact that their lives will be inextricably intertwined in a love triangle (or square?) where only one of them will rise from the ashes victorious. That is if you call snagging Jero a victory.
Avances: Jero and Marina reacquaint themselves.
