Teresa Mon 8/15/11 #116 Oriana, What Big Teeth You Have! All The Better to Devour You With!
Redux: Teresa has managed to seduce Fernando having him massage her shoulders and neck. She reminds him in a sensual whisper that they have a special something, especially now that she has his blood in her veins. They share a meaningful stare.
Luisa walks into the hospital room and sees “That Look” pass between Tere and Nando. Tere breaks the mood and smiles at Lu as if nothing’s happened. She’s excited that she has started to sense touch again. Lu comes over but (unlike hot blooded Fernando) her hands are icy cold. Lu laughs that she needs to have to have a (warm) hug from Fernando. Again Nando and Tere share a meaningful stare and cautious smiles. (Strains of Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded” are blasting loud throughout Viewerville, however. Around Teresa he’s definitely got a temp of 103 and we don’t have to read his mind to know what he’s got in mind for this hot mama! Does she do more than tease?)
Back at Casa de los Caceras: Aida and the even more odious Oriana are having another female doggies’ gripe session about Teresa and the magic spell she seems to cast on every man she meets--even decent guys like Mariano and Arturo can’t see through her! Yes, says Orca-iana. “--She’s been lucky up till now. What makes her dangerous though is that she’s extremely intelligent and very shrewd.” Now that Art is penniless it will be interesting to see if she’ll bounce from him to somebody else. It’ll be her trial by fire. Not to worry, tho’. She’s making it her job to expose her for who she really is to everyone.
At the hospital, Esperanza and Mariano discuss her and Hernan the Galan’s marrying there at the hospital and Rodrigo’s being baptized immediately after. Too bad he can’t be the little guy’s godfather now since Esp thought he should be; but since Tere’s the godmother we all know that Art will have to be the godfather. That’s the breaks, says Mar. He mentions that Hector the Director has forbidden him to even enter her hospital room so he hopes that Esp will keep him up to date with Teresa’s progress. Of course she will.
Meanwhile, Martin tells Aurora over coffee and croissants that he’s opening up a new restaurant in Paris and that means that the two of them will be living in France till the place is up and running on its own. Aurora speaks the lingo and since she’ll be out of med school very soon, it won’t be a problem for her to practice over there. She doesn’t seem to like the idea of being so far away from everyone she knows and loves. Marty seems to be blind as a bat to that. (Poor deluded shmuck.)
Back in Tere’s hospital room Lu gives Teresa a bit of a backgrounder on how this isn’t the first time Art’s had to adapt to economic hardship. Back when their father was accused of murder and then later, after their parents died, they had to live on a shoestring for quite a while until the courts finally cleared them to get their inheritance. Teresa says she never knew that about Art. Well, it only makes her admire him more! Nando’s eyes betray the green-eyed monster taking root.
Aurora returns to the hospital and informs Daddy that Martin’s planning to move back to Paris for a while immediately after she graduates and she’ll have to take up a practice there. From the look on Hec’s face it seems he wasn’t expecting any long-term separation from his little girl. They’ll have to chat later as Marty comes in to tell them they’re ready to start their Foundation meeting.
Meanwhile, Fernando tries explaining to Teresa that he offered his financial assistance to Arturo but that Art refused. That’s why he bought the house from him. Tere tells him and Lu that Art will continue to refuse any assistance until Mama Orca accepts her as Art’s wife. Lu says no, it’s not that. It’s that he simply doesn’t want to be indebted to Luisa’s husband for any reason. The nurse comes in at that point to take Tere for some tests. Teresa informs them that if the tests come out right, then she’ll get to go home the next day.
In Mariano’s office Hec, Aurora and Marty are discussing the opening of Paloma’s Pediatric Wing. They have the staff already hired. It’ll be on PetPal’s birthday. Art arrives a bit late. We learn from Hec that he’s taken over as director of the Foundation again and that Ruben kept this set of books spotless. (Hey, does this gig come with a humongous salary like it does up here?) Art says he wants Martin to continue handling the funds, but Marty has to refuse since he and Aurora may be moving to France and he’d have to be in Mexico to do it properly. The news of their leaving to live in France hits Mariano like a kick in the gut.
That night at Genoveva’s, in between slobbery kisses to her neck, Ruben asks for his own set of keys to her castle. She turns on him and says to hold his horses. She’s not the stupid fool Mayra was, and if she finds out he’s still got the hots for Esperanza he can forget Genny and her dinero, y punto! Oh where oh where would she get that kind of an idea? He’s only feeding Esp that story because he wants to insure he has visiting rights where his son is concerned in case their plans with Fito fall through! Well, it’s too late to cancel the deal with Fito, she warns him, and this time they’re going to do things her way! Whatever! He’d better be certain that if she finds him cheating on her he’ll know the real Genoveva! Like any self-respecting gigolo, Rubigote uses a few well-placed seductive kisses and gets her thinking of other less weighty things.....
Nobody understands why Aurora’s moving to France to bother Mariano so much. It’s only because they have a number of projects in the works, he says. Well, that’s what one does when they’re in love, says Marty. They’re ready to leave everyone and everything behind to be with the one they love. Projects aren’t a problem, says Hec. He supports Aurora and Marty’s decision to live outside the country if they choose to.
Meanwhile, in another part of the hospital, Fito the Maldito Bandito, dressed like he’s heading out for a Nor'easter snowstorm in northern Minnesota, hides in the corner of the hallway and notices as Tere’s being wheeled from her room.
The next day Marty mentions Mariano’s reaction to their leaving possibly to live in France. Sure, she says. “--It’s because we’re friends and we have a number of projects we’ve been working on together. But, that won’t cause me to change my mind.” Mariano walks in with a list of invitees to the opening of the Pediatric wing and secretly notes the loving smile that passes between Aurora and Martin.
At the same time, Fito surprises Tere. He tells her about Gen’s and Rubigote’s questioning what she had to do with Paulo’s getting involved with drugs. What’s it worth to her to avoid them finding out she wrote out his class schedule for him so he’d be able to track him down and talk him into trying a taste. Tere says she doesn’t believe he’s made contact with Gen. “--And why not?” “--Because she’d have recognized you from the police drawing they did of you and she’d have turned you into the police right away.” That shuts him up for a second or three while he reprograms.
Mariano tells Aurora how much he’s going to miss having her around. He’s going to miss her smile, her warmth and her humanity which is irreplaceable. He leaves for surgery. She puts on a woeful puppy look and sits there ready to weep. She starts to draw a heart with hers and his name inside it, but Martin shows up just as she’s written the first three letters: MAR--. He automatically assumes she’s been daydreaming of him and finishes the letters for her.
Fito regains his composure and lies that he’s never let her see his face. He’s got a go between anyway, supposedly. She whines she’s broke now so she can’t pay. He’d better leave or she’ll call security. Oh really? How? Should he press the little button for her? She becomes exasperated and tells him to steal her car. He doesn’t want to get fingered so they agree on him taking her keys which are in her purse. Works for him. He races out of the room.
Meanwhile, Refugio meets up with Mariano just as Odiana shows up. He introduces the two and Odiana is so snobbish that she refuses to even acknowledge the introduction. Once Refu leaves, Odiana asks who the woman is. Why she’s Teresa’s mother and he has a great affection for her! Odiana sniffs and looks like she needs to be deloused. Gawd knows how many cooties must have jumped from that woman onto her!
At Casa de la Barrera, Art hands back the check Lu gave him from the sale of her apartment. He wants her and Fernando to have the money as his wedding gift for their honeymoon. They reluctantly accept.
It seems that Teresa will be getting discharged. The nurse leaves and in with the wind blows Odiana to play another game of cat and mouse. She tells Tere that she just met her mother and now knows why Tere was so eager to leave her and the world she comes from. “--Ah, little girl! She’s such a no account [poquita cosa]!” “--You have no right to show such disrespect for my mother!” “--Ah, don’t play the wilted flower with me. You’re the first to be ashamed of her!” Tere’s stung. She fights to hold the tears back as odious Odiana smiles like the Cheshire Cat and searches her face to find traces of the pain she’s just caused her prey.
Juana drops by with a dress she’d originally made for Tere (I think). it’s for Espe to get married in. Cutberto barges in just as Espe’s about to try it on. What a jerk! Juana leaves the two of them to talk. Espe thanks him for the medallion and asks if he’ll be coming to the wedding. Nope. Juana’s going to be there with Dr. Big Belly [panzón]. But please don’t take it as a snub [desaire]. (Sorry, but every time I see Cutberto I want to delouse!!) FF>> FF>>
Back in Teresa’s room once more: Tere whimpers to Odiana that she has no right to harras her this way, especially in her physical condition. “--Oh come now! I don’t feel any compassion for you nor am I taken in by your emotional blackmail.” It’s not blackmail, corrects Tere. She would just like her to understand her a little. “--If you were in my place you’d understand so many things.” Not to worry, says the Orca-iana. She knows what she needs to of her. Just then Art opens the door and sees the pained look on Teresa’s face. Odiana smiles broadly at Art, her large, wolfish fangs glistening with saliva.... She was just telling Tere that she’d met her mother while talking to Dr. Sanchez, Mariano Sanchez. Art ignores the barb and excuses the two of them. They have an engagement they need to get to, he politely informs her as he rolls Teresa out of the room. Odiana goes to her purse, takes out her phone and immediately calls Aeeeda to ask her a favor.
A crowd has gathered in one of the meeting rooms for Esp and Hernan’s civil wedding. Everyone’s there. Johnny manages to bring a copy of Rodrigo’s footprint so he’ll also be represented at the wedding.
At the same time, across the railroad tracks, Aeeeda is giving Odiana a tour of “La Vecindad”. She takes it in like a trip to the Zoo. She sees Buttberto walking down the stairs and asks for an introduction. Supposedly she’s there to take a look at Mariano’s little clinic.
The ceremony goes over great. There’s a slight hiccup when Art gets a call that Tere’s car was stolen. He’s got to get down to the police station immediately and report it for insurance purposes. Tere puts on a great act for his benefit. “--Ay! That was all we needed! Why does this have to happen to us now that we don’t have....MONEY!”
Once Buttberto and La Orca start chatting she offers him a temporary position as her driver till she returns to Spain. Aeeeda’s spoken well of him. “--Aida?” “--Well, Mariano Sanchez had suggested him.” (Aha! A couple of lies that hopefully will lead to the Orca-ian’s getting her nasty face rubbed in her very own, very fresh cow pies.) That and the large sum of pesos wins the sh1t-for-brains over, and he accepts the job.
Tere makes a little speech about how they’d always dreamed of marrying fantabulous men and that now they both have. Mariano stands at the back of the room making doe eyes at Tere and looking glum. Hernan excuses himself, Esp and Rodrigo’s godparents for a quick baptism. Juana asks where Buttberto is. Johnny lies that he’s working. Pati opens her mouth and says he’s just probably avoiding the party because Juana’s there with Aurora’s daddy. Johnny gives her the stink-eye. Refu asks a round of applause to welcome in the little bundle of joy. The cokes and candy are passed around.
Just then El Bigote crashes the reception with a copy of his papers suing for paternity rights and recognition of Rodrigo as his son. (Grrrrr!) Art looks over the papers and reminds him that he’ll have to wait for the DNA test results and for the judge to formally make his recommendations. Right, says Bigote, but the suit is valid! Ok. Mariano jumps in and says well until such time as that happens, you’ve have no reason to be here. Ruben turns to Espe and sneers that if she thinks she’s getting her way over this--. Hernan The Galan jumps in to defend Espe. “--Don’t threaten my wife!” Rubigote’s mustache undulates as he snickers. “--Je, je, righhhht. Your wife!” Espe looks at Ruben with one dead serious stare. “--Yes, Ruben! His wife! Hernan and I just got married.” El Bigote is back-step-and-blink-twice-impactado. Teresa is grinning from ear to ear. What. A. Show!
Back in the Vecindad: Aeeeda at first doesn’t get why Odiana took on Buttberto for her driver. Little by little, explains La Orca, without his realizing it we’re going to know all about Teresa’s life here. The light goes off in Aeeeda’s head. “Ah! Information is power!” and yes, she’s going to milk him for all he’s worth! Then she’s going to enjoy seeing the look on that goldigger’s face when she has no way to defend her actions in front of Arturo! Whatever Oriana knows about Teresa must be pretty good, then. Oh, yes indeedy! What I have on her will have Arturo not only kicking her out of his house, but out of his life entirely! The two harpies share a conspiratorial snicker or two.
Back at the “festivities” Art is forced to push Ruben out the door. Don’t think you’ve heard the last of him! He’s not giving up his right to see his son! Espe turns to Tere and asks if he really could take him away from her. Tere says no way. The most he can do is force visitation rights on her. So now, lets baptize the little one and not let him ruin things today! They leave and Johnny has a fit. He wants to smash the guy’s face in. Mariano tells him violence isn’t the answer. (Guess that’s to show us how Mariano’s matured and mastered control over his emotions.) “--He might be a lawyer, but the law is on the mother’s side in this. So let’s enjoy the celebration already!”
Aurora listens to Mariano kvetch that he can’t be Rodrigo’s godfather since Tere’s his godmother. Aurora says she admires his loyalty to Teresa, but at times she can’t understand it. Viewerville supposes from the look on his face that he can’t either.
Tere and Art discuss her rehabilitation exercises and he’s going to help coach her. She also gets a personal PT aide to come in daily. Then once she’s back to normal she’ll help at the office and they won’t need to get rid of the office. (I’m not sure I caught that correctly.)
Espe is packing her things with Juana. She’ll send her mother word of the baby and that he’s doing fine. (How about word of the marriage?) Yes, she’ll continuing nursing. She’s getting out of the hospital to start her life with Hernan. Juana leaves them. Hernan says he's going to let her redo the house any way she wants it. Only the three of them together matters to her. They smooch. FF>>
Refu and Armando discuss the test that Life’s putting Tere through now. Here she was part owner of a law firm and now she’s got to sell it. The staff is really down and out about that, too he says. Well, he’s sure Tere will come out of this just fine. They agree that once she’s got something in mind that nobody and nothing will stop her or keep her from it.
Time passes. Hernan and Espe set up house and go shopping for the nursery. Teresa continues to work hard at getting her mobility back.
Mariano and Aurora work on their projects together and Marty brings pizza. (Who says three’s a crowd?)
One fine day, Buttberto arrives with Oriana in her limo. Oriana primes the pump by asking him if Teresa’s the reason for his rotten luck with Juana. Oh! She’s got my Juanita terrorized! Juanita doesn’t love Dr. Big-Belly! She just enjoys the fancy places he takes her and the things he gives her. (Again, it’s hard understanding small-town vecindad speak, so I think this is what he’s talking about.) With the savings from this driver’s job he’ll be able show her he can give her some nice things too. “--Well, where does Teresa enter into all of this?” Oh, they were doing just fine as a couple till Teresa, the greedy, mean, snooty brat taught Juana all her bad habits. And the way she treats her parents!! You wouldn’t believe it if I told you!" "--Not at all!" La Orca-iana is all ears--and they’re big, long furry wolf ears, too. She has some time still. Tell her! Go ahead! And Big-Mouth Buttberto unloads.
More time passes and the pediatric wing at the hospital is opened. Tere is now walking with a cane. Slowly she’s getting the strength back in her leg muscles.
Unfortunately, Arturo has to go ahead with the sale of the law office. The staff gives him a standing O.
Martin has gone ahead with his plans for a restaurant in Paris. He shows Hec, Juana and Aurora a picture of it over lunch one day. He’ll be calling it “La Bella Aurora.” He’s going ahead to do some things there, but it will only be for a few days. Aurora can’t join him till after the wedding because she’s in the middle of taking her finals.
That night, up in their bedroom, Art is massaging Tere’s feet and ankles. They agree that despite all the financial problems and such, they’ve managed to keep their heads up and come out smelling like a rose. The discussion turns flirtatious and Art starts kissing Teresa’s legs every few inches to “test” her sense of feel. They fall back onto the bed and into an impassioned embrace. Art promises to make sure that every inch of her body is feeling something tonight......... Fade to black.

Cuando Me Enamoro #84 Monday 8/15/11 Tell Me True, Just Who Was, or Who Is or Who Will Be Your Baby-Daddy?
Good Evening, we begin with a replay (look I’m writing this and I want to see it again, write about it and think about our psychopath extraordinaire. This is a matter of studying technique.) Just look at the skill with which she handles the gun, speaks in dulcet tones. How clever is the Fina scheme to have Gustavo take Cantu’s money then shoot him for her. I observed again that she talks a kind of baby talk when she says HE”S DEAD of Cantu and then again promises to meet Gustavo later but only in HELL. Her smile of pleasure is the most sincere ever to cross her face. She collects documents, daintily lifts the money bag and Cantu’s check in Gustavo’s pocket while she turns a slender ankle for us to admire as she steps over the dead bodies and finally gives a last adios to the two fools.
Regina and Gonzo make eyes at each other and sweet talk at the hospital. He assures her that the lawyers will take care of the divorcing Fina problem. Roberta pitches a fit when she finds Gonzo romantically kissing Regina’s hand. She loses no time hitting the shrill notes: all this time THIS has been ruining our family. Gonzo walks off to talk with his foul-mouthed daughter telling her to stop her insults of Regina. Then Dona Cata comes up to express her own irritation. Regina shouldn’t act shamefully like this and doesn’t deserve this life she is creating. Does she forget that she was the wife who was betrayed and now she is the betrayer? Gonzo tries to quiet Roberta who screams that this “old thing” is taking the place of her mother who is so terribly ill. He tells her as if she hasn’t heard it that Fina’s illness was all a trick. Roberta who often thinks only of money manages to blame him for ruining the business and risking losing all the money, all for fault of Regina Soberon. Mama Cata comes along the hallway to give Gonzo the next ugly earful about his bad behavior Some days you jus’ can’t get no respect no how.
Matilde, now permanently in giddy mode, assures Jero that she has the perfect way to get Renata back to the hacienda. She will make her keep her promise to be her madrina at the wedding if he will give her Renata ‘s phone number. He doesn’t think Renata will be coming back and she needs to find another madrina but Matilde won’t be defeated no hacer por vencida. (Shades of Andrecito and just as sweet.) I am really preferring the new Matilde.
Matt and Renata discuss that she is through forever with Jero and will not return. Matt thinks this is a good decision. He will take care of the investigation at the empressa while she can go be with Adriana. She discovered the base plot and he can take care of the follow up investigation. He realized how much he cares for Adriana when there was the possibility that she would die. He wonders if he gets his messy life cleared up if romance is possible. He wants Renata to promise that if he and she are to remain only friends that she at least won’t rush out and take up with another lover without first giving him a turn. She promises and rolls her eyes just a little.
Inez and Isidro are friendly toward the Gonzo and Regina who take the congratulations on their relationship but Regina adds they have so many pending issues to solve. Regina again prods Gonzo to talk with Renata whose unfriendliness really bothers her and she doesn’t want a repeat of her recent scene with Roberta.
Dona Cata comes in and finds Antonio inside her house, WARNING LIGHTS and sirens should be starting now, She tells him the bad news that Regina has said she doesn‘t want him or the house, kids and horse, (well she didn’t throw in the horse, I did) Dona Cata is the most disappointed but Antonio waxes toward popped veins in the head.
Selene walking with Roberta says she wants to ask a favor of Renata about Augustin whom she met the day of Renata’s wedding. My sister? She tells Roberta how hot in bed was this Augustin Duran. Roberta ironically says you slept with a man you just barely met?? Selene says yes, it’s what you always do. HA. Selene wants Roberta to help her find his address and contact data. Roberta says I can’t mess with Renata’s client. CLIENT? lights up Selene who just figured out how to contact him.
Renata is masked leaning over Adriana telling her she can’t wait until the day or moment she gets the news that Adriana has opened her eyes. She begs her to hang in. She mumbles a bit through the mask and then kisses Adriana through it.
Augie is conveniently waiting/lurking outside the ICU and receives Renata’s sincere hug. She is glad he is there and is still worried about Adriana who at least is going to live. He says after the jail and this accident I thought I would come right away when I heard your sad voice on the phone. She hugs him with great emotion and a few stifled sobs. He grins at his good luck. She thinks they could go talk at her auntie’s house and he asks about her uncle. No he won’t be there because he has moved out with Adriana. She starts to tell this
Jero is pitching a fit that Augie is free and will take advantage of the situation to get Renata to reject Jero. Carlos listens while Jero steams that Augie will do anything under the sun to prejudice Renata against him to promote his own quest of her.
Alfonsina and her beautiful son discuss that she has to leave when his Dad comes home. Smart little boy reasons that now that Dr. Nasty is in prison, why can’t she stay home with him and help him with his homework. What ever you don’t get your papa will explain to you. Ezek walks in expecting her to leave but the boy begs her to stay. The smart kid begs them he wants his parents together; Exek says they can’t live under the same roof. When the boy begs again, Exek pulls just a little emotional blackmail saying don’t insist because if you do I will ask your mother not to come at all. The kid is appropriately cowed, Alfonsina also asks him not to insist, kisses him as she leaves. The boy looks defeated but disgusted and walks out of the room leaving Exek looking just a little guilty for his words. He isn’t feeling bad enough to take back his mean spirited words.
Manuela advises Kari that her eyes are going to give out if she embroiders at night. Kari says the embroidery business isn’t making her a millionaire (my observation) yet but she also counsels her that regarding Lazaro, if she pardons who has offended her perhaps the ones she has offended will forgive her.
Fina comes in with her bag of money, even talks civilly to the maid for a change, goes into the office and opens the small safe putting in all the money from her gym bag. Is this Gonzo’s office that might hold evidence now? Fina seems to be cooking with gas now. Looks at the evidence report from plucked from Cantu’s dead fingers: Roberta Alverez, daughter of Josefina Alvaresz, she reads aloud. She rips it apart. then sees the picture of little Regina and says you should be glad I changed your name Regina is a disgusting name (asquerosa.) Iccckkkl. She looks at a picture of her younger self and goes how lovely.
Roberta walks in that carp about where has her mother been, then that Matias and Gonzo have gone both left the house and her dad was at the hospital oh yeah Adriana is hurt, and most awful pappy was kissing the hand of Regina all romantic in front of everyone. Fina assures her that her papa is going to pay for his decision. Fina has plans.
Gonzo tells Regina over dinner that he is glad she chose him and Fina had no illness. It was all a trick between Fina and her doctor to try to keep him from leaving her. She says she isn’t the first woman to play tricks to keep her man. He does not feel bad or guilty to be leaving Fina. Regina is sorry for Antonio . Gonzo says Antonio is a man of his word and honor. She asks Gonzo again to fix things so she can talk to Renata.
Roberta tries to flirt with Matias on the stairs near the eggs. (Speaking of dinosaur eggs, did I thank the telenovela gods that I didn’t have to report on Blanca tonight?) She wants to give him a massage to make him feel better She says he feels lonely and so does she so they could console each other. He is tired of her tricks and lies about the pregnancy and everything. He is ready to proceed with a divorce, with no child coming there is no reason to continue pretending to be together. Undaunted by truth, she says now you don’t know me and you could get to better. I want to change the horrible impression you have of me. She offers that they could go somewhere else away from this place and start over. He doesn’t want to know any more about her.
Constanza and Honorio are in the Adri/ Hon apartment and for some reason he is in his jammies. She is there to help him and cares and offers to be the one to be at the hospital for so many days to care for Adri. She would love to take care of her. He has missed her so but is still sad that his actions drove her to have an affair with Chema. She decides to leave instead of straightening out this misinformation. They both looks sorry, she crises outside the door that its too bad that he thinks she could actually betray him with Chema or anyone.
Matt remembers Roberta saying what a shame you have a bad impression of me and he decides he has gone far enough with this face and takes off his wedding ring.
Speaking of dreamy blue-eyed devils, Chema comes into the club kissing his way through a line of gorgeous women even bussing Selene who slings more insults about his old hag. He is appropriately insulted saying he just came in to relax with a drink. She tells him what a hot handsome number she has conquered and he leaves to drink in peace wishing her luck with her conquest.
Augie and Renata talk over dinner and he tells her that Jero came for Gitana. Surprised she questions, he came for my mare. They talk about Augie’s favorite theme these days, is she about to file the divorce papers .Augie plays a subtler game than usual while Jero in split screen repeats his lament about Renata and love. Consta comes in to greet Aug and Renata. Consta is dead tired and goes to her room. Augie takes a hint and rises to leave. Renata asks if he will be in town for a few days or needs to get back, he is there exactly the moment she needs him and for as long, he assures her. He is looking at the only thing he is interested in. Renata is quick to tell him one more time that she can’t reciprocate. He leaves and Renata asks the Jero in her head how can she stop her feelings for him. He splits the screen, saying please Renata, don’t forget about me. She has him in her hands and hopes he is in her sentiments. Triad split with the scantily topped Marina who is enchanted that she has had the luck to find Jero here when she never thought to see him again.
Gonzo tells Regina not to worry about him. He is not going to his house but a hotel for now. She explains that she can’t invite him to stay with her for respect for her mother. He wants to buy her a house that they can be in but with all the problems in the business he isn’t sure when. She asks if it is really awful. We’ll get through it, he assures her. He is being so romantic about just spending the evening with her when Antonio becomes the lurker jumping out of the bushes saying what kind of betrayal is this. She says I never said I loved you. He accuses both of them of not keeping the promises to guard Regina but there wasn’t supposed to be a choice that wasn’t him. But you accepted my ring he whines. He keeps talking about the promise she has broken but won’t answer her continued question, what promise?
Selene becomes the lurker in Augie’s hotel room with a drink in hand and immediately says she is sorry he was in the jail, as she undresses him to make him feel better while she blows off his questions about how she found him. My question is how does this little minx get into hotel rooms like this.
Gonzo says you have no right to tell Regina and I what to do. Antonio continues his no fair, no fair speech (whine) They are going behind his back. Regina tries to remind him that before she accepted Gonzo she returned his ring and told him she didn’t love him and didn’t plan to marry hlm ever. He goes off mad, and Regina is sorry and worried that he went off with so much anger. She is sorry that she has to say good night to Gonzo. He likes it even less but pretty soon they won’t have to be separated. He looks happy and handsome long after she goes inside.
Regina walks in to her living room where Cata is lurking, ready to carp at Regina who resents being treated like an adolescent Well if you act like one I will treat lyou like one. (Let’s see Regina must be 40 something?) Antonio was here and I told him about Gonzo and your betrayal. Now I understand why Antonio was lurking outside, says Regina. Regina says I feel sorry about Antonio’s pain but I don’t feel shame.
Back at the hospital we hear the doctor tell Hon, Con and Renata that Adriana is ready to come out of ICU into her own room. Renata gives him a kiss. She needs a lot of therapy and needs to be kept immobile He tells them she is a lucky girl, that the consequences could have been fatal they all go off to see Adriana’s new hospital room.
Mattias has to explain to Roberta again that his packed bags mean he is leaving. He thinks she can stay here with her mother but he can’t and especially since his father is gone. She can’t believe he is leaving her in this house of horrors when she is so depressed. He says if you are depressed you should start thinking of what you did to get your self here.
Mom Fina sees Mat leave and Roberta sniffs he abandoned me. Now what brilliant idea are you going to come up with next to fix this, whaaaaa
Selene stays the night wakes up (so prepared she has her own little negligee set) ready to jump Augie again who is clean and not wanting to smell differently. He clearly doesn’t like her clingy plans. He says if this is going to last , no one can know about us. Well maybe Roberta she says, we talk about everything, well almost everything. He picks up the Roberta theme and asks if she knew about Roberta and Rafa and did she think Roberta would have killed Rafa? Then she slips that Roberta would never kill the man whose child she was going to have. Augie jumps quick to work out the facts and Selene realizes the gaff but Augie is much faster and covers her with kisses on her neck which prompts her to spill not only was the baby Rafa’s but Roberta and Jero never even had sex. That story was only to f**k with Renata. Augie is suave and continues kissing so she will tell all. Then he realizes that he has the high cards in this hand and will beat Jero who thinks he will get Renata back. Ha, I think we can assume the he is not giving these post coital revelations to share with Renata any time soon. He now knows how to proceed to torture Jero with the upper hand.
Next Capitulo: Augie moves ahead with influencing Renata, we can assume he will boink Selene to keep himself calm and plot his next moves. Jero is not looking too satisfied and asks Renata if she still loves him, she assures him she does but note that she is on a phone in DF saying it.

La Fuerza del Destino #9 Mon 08/15/11 Ivan Gets an Indecent Proposal AND an Offer He Can’t Refuse
Alternate Title: Max is Found, and MarIvancito is Lost
Camilo the Coward leaves his house and runs into Antolin, who has left his bachelor pad to come over and visit their mom Celia. Cami angrily mentions the letter from Ivan and how he’s in a messed up situation (esta en la fregada). Antolin feels NO guilt. The two have their same argument about whose fault it is that Ivan got in this mess and was convinced to leave. Antolin sticks to his guns and the argument turns into a shoving/wrestling match. The screams of witnesses on the street bring Celia running. She breaks up the fight between her two sons with her broom and calls them animals. The shoving match turns into a screaming match over their mother’s head. When she asks what caused it, Antolin lies (what’s new?) and Camilo angrily stalks off. Celia gives Antolin a swat and tells him she knows he must have started it. Antolin complains about always being made to be the bad guy (el malo del cuento), when all he came to do was see her. “Well, you’ve seen me. Now get out of here!” (Ooh, harsh Celia.) He better be grateful that she’s not going to tell his father. She shoos him off with her broom, and then does the same to the nosey neighbor ladies who have been attentively watching the whole scene. (Go Celia!)
In L.A. (my home town!), Ivan works in the restaurant kitchen. His hard work and English skills (and less indio features/buena pinta) earn him a promotion to waiter by the boss. The other kitchen workers look on in jealous anger.
Lucrezia speaks with Esther and tells her about the divorce that SHE (snort, giggle) demanded from Gerry. Timid Esther can’t believe Lu did such a bold thing. She could never do it. What about the children? They need their father. She’s been taught that a woman should respect her husband because he rules the home. Lucrezia isn’t interested in being a martyr.
In L.A., Ivan proudly tells Benito that he has been promoted to a mesero. He can afford to rent his own room somewhere now. Benito will help him look for a place. Unfortunately, Benito hasn’t had much luck finding a job. Ivan wonders if a letter has come from Camilo the Coward. Nope. Ivan looks forlorn. Benito says that people back home get preoccupied with their own problems and forget about you. He speaks of missing his family and kids. Ivan says that Cami is like his brother.
Lucrezia and Esther continue their chat. Lu wants to get out of town for a while until the gossip about her divorce dies down. Esther understands.
Ivan approaches two customers looking over the menu. He asks them, in pretty decent English, if they’d like an appetizer. One of the men looks Ivan over and declares that Ivan is Latino, right? Ivan answers yes, in Spanish. The older man asks Ivan if he has his papers (legal resident docs like a visa or green card). Ivan gets an ‘oh sh*t’ look on his face. The guy chuckles and says they aren’t from Immigration (La Migra). But it’s surprising that a young man like him (light skinned, English speaking?) is working as a waiter. Ivan admits that this current job isn’t the best, but he’ll eventually get ahead (alcanzar). The older guy hands him his business card, with the promise of a better life, and orders up a tequila.
At the little house by the sea in Guaymas, Lucrezia arrives to inform the girls that she’s staying with them till Maripaz gives birth (dar luz), and that the divorce from their father is a done deal. Lucia thought they’d find a way to fix their problems. Lucrezia doesn’t think it’s a huge loss, as Gerry never brought in any money, nor was good for anything else. She tells the girls about leaving town while the gossip about the divorce is hot. Maripaz (always concerned about Number 1) wants to know what the town is saying about HER. Nada. They assume she’s off to school. And what if she returns looking fat? “We’ll say that you gained weight and now you’re on a diet.” Lucia asks about Ivan, but Lucrezia tells her to shut it and not mention him again. The girls go off to look at the clothes mom brought them. Carlota informs Lucrezia that Gerry’s coming to see the girls this weekend. One big happy family, all together again!
In the smoggy valley of L.A. (ah, home!), Ivan checks out his new rental with Benito. Benito gives him fatherly advice about being good, and not bringing too many girls (chamacas) home. He’ll take Ivan to a place where he can get a few pieces of furniture cheap. Ivan thanks him for all he’s done for him, and the two lament the fact that Benito still hasn’t found work. Ivan tells him about the two Gringos who were nice to him, gave him a card, and spoke to him about good paying work. He shows the card to Benito who assumes these guys are rich (ricochona) by the address on the card. He tells Ivan to go for it. Ivan asks about getting a letter from Camilo (why isn’t anyone else in the family writing?), and is disappointed again. Benito good naturedly tells Ivan that’s the way it goes. He advises that if Ivan starts working for those wealthy guys, he’ll have to buy some better clothes.
Ivan puts on his Sunday best and heads to the high rise office address from the business card. He tells the blond (but obviously Latina from her accent) receptionist in English that he is here to see the person on the card. She directs him to the 9th floor. The receptionist on the 9th floor mostly speaks Spanish as she directs him to the waiting area. He admires a leggy blond while there.
In Guaymas, Lucrezia is not happy that the girls have gone into town on their own. Carlota tries to get her to chill out. (Good luck with that.) Lucrezia wants to make sure that Maripaz isn’t out and about when she goes into labor. In fact, she thinks it would be better if she gave birth at home instead of in the hospital where pesky records could later give away the fact that she had a child. Carlota crosses her arms and gives her best Garry Coleman impersonation, “What chu talkin’ ‘bout Lucrazya?!” What if there are complications? Heck no! Maripaz is going to give birth in a hospital! Anyways, the gynecologist already knows Maripaz is a single mother (madre soltera), and hospitals don’t give a darn if you’re married, widowed or single.
In the high rise office, Ivan is shown into a board room where Mark (the old dude from the restaurant) is looking over a poster of a sexy young woman. Similar posters are strewn over the board table. Ivan is seated at the opposite end from Mark. He came to see him about making better money than he’s making in the restaurant. The guy tells him to name his price. Does he want to earn $3,000 or $5,000 each month (!)? Ivan looks as bewildered as I am. Sure, but what kind of work is he talking about? Ivan refuses to do anything that has to do with drugs. Mark chuckles. No, it’s nothing like that. His business makes VIDEOS. (Do you see where this is going? Because I sure do.) Mark points out that Ivan’s a good looking guy, and he assumes well hung (bien totado). (Yes, he said it people.) Ivan starts to get the drift, and becomes very uncomfortable (as do I). Mark thinks Ivan still doesn’t get it, so he comes straight out and tells him they make adult videos. He tells Ivan to stand up so he can look him over. (Wow, we usually only see this scenario with women. But standing there in his freshly pressed, tucked in, button down, white shirt, and Clark Kent glasses, Ivan looks every bit as vulnerable as those women.) “You have a good body. You’re handsome. Take off your pants so that I can see what you have under there (que traes adentro).” (!!!)
Ivan hesitates for a moment, as if he might do what was asked. He then regains his confidence and tells Mark he made a mistake with him. He doesn’t do this kind of thing. He thanks him, refuses, and begins to walk out of the room. Friendly Mark turns fiendish, and warns Ivan that he knows where he works and can turn him in to La Migra if he wants. Cara impactada de Ivan.
Gerry visits the house in Guaymas and finds that the girls have left for a walk. The doctor recommended walks to Maripaz so that she doesn’t gain as much weight, and Lucia always goes with her, because that’s the kind of caring, good sister she is. Carlota laments Maripaz’s bad character and declares that she’s worse than her mother.
At the restaurant, Ivan tells the boss about Mark’s threat and gets fired for his honesty. The restaurant owner can’t take the risk of Immigration breathing down his neck. He’ll have to fire some of the other illegals too. Ivan begs. He just rented a place. He can’t believe others will get fired because of him. Later, he and Benito get jobs working as pickers in a produce field.
Carlota tells Gerry about Lucrezia’s crazy plan for a home birth (partera). They are both in agreement about the birth happening in a hospital (which likely means that Lucrezia will get her way). Gerry thinks that Lucrezia would prefer that the baby die. Carlota says perhaps, but her worried face looks like she agrees. Gerry will be back staying in a hotel next week. He wants Carlota to let him know when Mari heads to the hospital in labor. The girls return. Lucia is happy and cheerful when she sees her dad. Maripaz is, well…Maripaz. Enough said.
Ivan is in the fields, working hard picking. At home in the evening, he writes a letter to Camilo begging for a response. In Sonora, the mailman delivers the letter from Ivan to Camilo the Coward, who rips it up without reading it.
In the hospital in Guaymas (I guess Lucrezia did not get her way after all), the family awaits news of Maripaz and the baby. Gerry tries to make nice with Lucrezia. Lucrezia is, well…Lucrezia. Enough said. Everyone (minus Lucrezia) is happy to learn from the doctor that all is well, and Maripaz gave birth to a healthy baby boy (varon).
Ivan is hitchhiking along a road with his backpack. A car stops and we see a road sign which shows Laguna Beach is not far away.
Baby MarIvancito cries as the happy members of the family look on at him. They are all sad that they will have to say goodbye to him, especially Lucia.
Ivan arrives at his destination and hops out of the car. Not too far away we see an older gentleman calling for his dog Max. He is soon assaulted by two young hoodlums who knock him to the ground. Ivan sees this and goes running, yelling at the guys in English to leave the man alone. One guy pulls a gun on Ivan and tells him in Spanish to butt out (no te metas). I’m not sure when Ivan learned Kung Fu, but he jumps up and round house kicks the gun out of the hoodlum’s hand. He then confronts him hand to hand and beats the guy down. Both hoodlums run off as Ivan checks on the older gentleman and asks if he wants him to call 911 or a doctor. He just wants Ivan to help him back to his house (mansion!). He doesn’t want to make a big deal about what just happened, as those guys were probably just motivated by hunger/poverty. Ivan doesn’t think this is a valid excuse.
Once they are inside the house, the maid comes running wondering what happened to Don Anthony (Tony). He explains how he went looking for Max who has gotten loose. She thinks it was Felipe’s fault, who didn’t lock the gate when he left. She scolds Tony for going out by himself. We learn her name is Maria and she heads out of the room to call his doctor. Tony then tells Ivan he’s more worried for Max, who isn’t used to being out off his leash. Ivan finally gets that Max is a dog and offers to go find him. Tony tells Ivan that Max most likely headed to the nearby park.
Lucrezia is in a sleeping Maripaz’s hospital room. Gerry enters. He offers to get Lucrezia something from the cafeteria, where Carlota and Lucia are. She refuses. He asks if she’s seen the beautiful (hermoso) baby yet. Nope! Gerry gets sentimental, but Lucrezia puts a stop to that. The baby’s being put up for adoption, and that’s that! Gerry wants to know if they have the needed supplies at the house to care for the baby. Lucrezia’s not so worried since the baby will only be with them a few days. Gerry wants to know what they are going to tell the foundling home (casa cuna) when they drop the baby off. That the servant abandoned her baby and took off. Gerry doesn’t look pleased with this answer.
Ivan searches for Max, calling to him in English. A friendly German Sheppard (pastor alemán) emerges from the bushes and greets Ivan. He puts him on a leash and returns to the house. Maria scolds Max and the absent Felipe. The doctor comes down the stairs and tells Ivan Tony is well, but needs to go do some follow-up tests tomorrow. He charges Ivan with making sure he goes in to do the tests. In the living room, Max is being scolded by his owner as Ivan enters. Tony thanks Ivan for saving him, but above all, he thanks him for finding Max. This whole conversation is happening in Spanish, and Tony is also speaking to Max in Spanish. When Ivan asks about it, he learns Tony’s mother was Mexican. More specifically, she was from Alamos, Sonora. Ivan is shocked by how small the world is. He explains that’s where he grew up. Tony notices that Ivan speaks Spanish and English well, and wonders how he got here. Ivan explains about being an engineering student in Sonora, but had to leave home because some bad stuff went down. He explains about his servant mother who died, and his scholarship to the university. “Did you kill someone?” “No.” Good enough for Tony. He wants to compensate Ivan for what he did for him. He wants to help fulfill Ivan’s mother’s dream (for him to become an engineer). He tells Ivan to think about it and get back to him tomorrow. Ivan will come by after he gets off work at the orange grove. Tony thanks Ivan again for finding Max, then leans back in his recliner and promptly falls asleep. Ivan looks at him with gratitude, and returns to his apartment to dream about the possibilities.
In the hospital the next morning, Gerry returns with flowers and is greeted happily by Lucia. Seems that Maripaz is being her usual bad-humored self, and doesn’t want to see or breastfeed the baby (dar pecho). Carlota can’t convince her to do it for the baby’s well being. Maripaz is sure formula will do just fine. Gerry greets her with a kiss and the flowers. Maripaz reacts the way you would think. She shrieks that she does NOT want to see the baby. Gerry worries about where they will put the baby in the small two-bedroom house. Carlota decides that the baby should stay with her and Lucia in the girls’ room. Lucrezia will stay in a room with Maripaz. Gerry and Lucia excitedly go to see the baby. Maripaz doesn’t understand all the fuss about the baby, since he won’t be with them long. Carlota tells her that before, she knew Maripaz was spoiled and capricious, but now she knows she’s just bad to the bone (bien MALA)!
Ivan returns to Tony’s home and is greeted by the friendly maid Maria. She confirms that Tony did go to the doctor for the tests. Tony’s obviously not happy about it. He asks for Ivan’s answer. Does he accept his offer? Ivan explains his hesitation due to an indecent proposal he’s already received, and having learned that people always want something in return. “Like what?” Ivan doesn’t know. He’s met some good folk, but also some pretty bad ones. Now he’s uncertain. Tony is still confused about what kind of indecent proposal Ivan could be talking about. Ivan is too embarrassed to say. Tony explains how his parents had a Latin American goods import/export business. His father passed away many years ago, and not long after, his mother passed away. He was married with one child, but unfortunately, his wife and son died in an accident. He’s now as alone as a dog, with Max as his only companion. But he likes to converse with people. Now Ivan has come into his life-- saving his life and finding Max. He can tell Ivan has a good heart. Ivan explains his own love for dogs and how his dog was much like Max- his sole companion. He had to leave him when he left home. He explains the real reasons why he left (Maripaz, the pregnancy, etc.).
Lucia and Gerry admire little MarIvan. Gerry is certain God will make sure the little guy ends up in a good home.
Ivan continues his tale of woe and the false accusation of killing one of his attackers, even though his BFF was the culprit. He then explains about his mother’s life and death (as he understands it). Tony is convinced. He’s going to help get papers for Ivan so that he can go to school legally and such. But if Ivan has lied to him about any of this, he’s out! Ivan swears it’s all true, he won’t fail him. He calls Tony his guardian angel and thanks him.
The Bickertons bring the baby back to the beach house. As her family argues and fights all the way into the house, Lucia seems to have a moment of realization that this really would NOT be a healthy environment for a baby. Inside the house, ShrewCrazya refuses to let the baby stay in any room but the servant’s room! (Why in the hell is Carlota listening to her?!) Gerry says farewell to Lucia. Later that evening in the servant’s room, the maid offers to stay the night to take care of the baby. She wonders why Maripaz isn’t caring for him. Carlota refuses to let her stay. Lucia then offers to stay with the baby, but Carlota sends her to her own room for the night. Lucia kissed her grandma and nephew goodnight. Once alone, Carlota cries. (Is she ashamed of her role in this mess? Sad her first great-grandchild will be given away? Both?) Little MarIvan looks on.
Later in the middle of the night, the little one begins to cry in earnest, and Carlota heads off to the kitchen to get him a bottle. When she returns with the bottle, MarIvancito is GONE!!!!
Avances: Ivan has become a success in L.A. as the years pass. Tony wants him to go back to Mexico to confront his demons from the past. In the past, the Curiel-Lomeli women react to the shocking news that the baby has gone missing. I think we will get our first episode with an all grown up Lucia (Sandra E.).

La Pola - August 8-12, 2011 - Discussion Page
Ladies and Gentlemen: This was another action-packed adventure in Cundinamarca (sp?). The biggest surprise was the transformation of Col. Baraya from Nariño's loyal friend and ally to a power-hungry general in the army under the leadership of Don Camilo Torres and his revolutionary gang. Don Jorge Tadeo has thrown in the towel and Nariño steps forward to lead Santa Fé with his characteristic idealism and belief in the Rights of Man.
Domingo is going over the edge. He is obsessed with impregnating Catarina, which we know he will never be capable of doing. With the help of his flunky Ciro he learns more and more about what has been going on in the storage hut. He now begins to think the unthinkable - that Juliano and Catarina have had a love affair and that one of the children, that is, one of Acacia's twins is the product of that affair. After trying unsuccessfully to brand the little boy like a head of cattle he orders Ciro to get rid of him - kill him. What will be Cata's fate now?
Pola is committed to the revolution. All males over the age of 15 are ordered to serve in the army of Santa Fé. That means that Pedrito and Vivianito must become soldiers in an army that is outnumbered by thousands.
Nariño in the ultimate act of nobility presents himself before Baraya in an attempt to make a deal to save the city. It is a futile attempt.
Arcos sees things as they are and doesn't want to fight for a bunch of chapetones who don't care about the local people. Alejo still professes loyalty to the king. Pola, of course, cannot accept that.

La Fuerza del Destino #8 Fri 08/12/11 First Deserted In The Desert And Now Barely Surviving In A Cement Jungle
Capítulo 8
First the redux:
The coyote tells the illegals that he saw a patrol nearby the highway and then tells them to get down out of the truck; this is the endpoint for them all. They’re to have to make it the rest of the way to L.A. on their own. How? Oh, just follow the highway. Ivan says there’s no highway around there! How can he leave them like that? There’a a couple of kids and a woman in the group! Sorry, he only has enough gas to get back to the border! When it looks like the mojados will try to rush him, the coyote pulls a semi-automatic pistol on them and tells him to back off and back away. He and the other goon drive off in the truck, leaving Van and the others there to cross the hinterlands as best they can.
Ivan takes a look at the sun and figures the direction the city should be. He heads off in that direction with two other men, the two kids and their mother in tow. He tells the others they’ll have to walk through scrub land [matorral = scrub land/thicket] and hide in the bushes if the patrols come. Afraid of wolves, snakes and scorpions, they have no choice but to start walking with what little water and food they have remaining. (Let’s hope Van’s read enough to know he can use that machete to cut some of that cactus down if it comes to that!)
Meanwhile, back in Alamos, Senora: Cleto stops by Arcelia’s place and manages at least to speak with her daughter, Carmen, while Celia’s at the market. Ali cia supposedly left on a religious pilgrimage [peregrinación] a few days ago but she never returned. Carmen fills Cleto in about Ali’s death due to her (back-alley equivalent) abortion, and Ivan’s making his way to The States “de mojado” [as a wetback/ lit. a wet man].
The group of mojados and Ivan struggle on through the day, fighting their exhaustion.
Cleto reports back to Lucrecia about what he found out. Sheesh! “An abortion! Gawd knows who the father must have been, the whore!” She orders Cleto not to say a word about this to anybody and allows herself a teensy grin of satisfaction since, with Ivan on the lam, she’s got no more pretenders to her throne.
Meanwhile, it’s pretty obvious to Van and the other man, Cástulo, that they are much further away from Los Angeles than they were told. (Duh!) Van proposes that they rest a little while and travel at night. He shares his apples and says they’ll be running out of water eventually so the apple’s better cuz it’s juicy. (Tell me this isn't a PSA on how to safely cross the desert if entering the back way into the U.S.A.) Cas doesn’t want to travel at night cuz of fear of stepping on a snake or a scorpion. Van says snakes are out at all hours. That’s why he bought the machete. (We note they’re eating their few apples and chugging their water instead of saving that and utilizing the hundreds of cactuses nearby for the juice. I’d say that’s a much better use of that machete right now! Come on, Ivan is supposed to be smarter than the aaaa-ver-age bear!)
A bit later in town, Luscreechia and Juan Jaime run into each other in town. The two shoot the breeze a bit and he politely asks after Gerardo and things at El Socorro. She keeps up the front about the girls and says Gerardo is only gone to the big city to sell his parents’ house and should return soon. They go their separate ways, but Juan Slimy can’t resist a sly, lusting look at the old gal’s backside as he starts off. (Now that’s a good reason for me to really blow chunks!) Screechia hopes she’s managed to minimized the gossip.
Back in the hinterlands, the mother of the little girl who came with the others has a fever. Josue, her B-I-L, complains that they should have left them with their grandparents. As it is, they’ll have to go back now. Van and Cas are on their own.
Juan Jeil-me (Achtung!) at dinner tells Esther about his chat with Lu. He’s certain that if Gerry’s selling the house instead of renting it that it’s because the family’s hurting for cash. Esther thinks it’s odd that she sent both girls off to study in The States, especially when Maripaz said she didn’t want to go back again. JJ admits Lu looked pretty nervous during their chat. Esther changes the subject and asks JJ if the boys could eat dinner in a civilized manner at the house with the rest of them. JJ gets mad that she is trying to spoil them and turn them both into sissies when he’s trying to make men out of them. Let them eat with the rest of the cowboys! They’ll be fine! (Actually, I have to say I agree with JJ this time.) He’s so disgusted with her suggesting it tho’ that he blows up and leaves the table.
Sometime later that evening a border patrol helicopter passes close by the illegals. Ivan throws himself onto the ground but the searchlight falls on Castulo. In trying to evade the patrol, Castulo trips and hits his head on a huge pile of rocks. Van makes it to where Cas fell. He watches him die, reflexively kisses his mother’s rosary as he realizes his good luck—cuz hey, it could have been him there instead—and then buries Cas under some rocks.
The next morning Gloria asks LuScreechia if they could hire her niece to take Ali’s place. Grumpy says no since there’s nobody there except her now at the house and Gerry’s not coming back. Gerardo calls right after wanting to know where the girls are staying. At first she won’t say. (Damn! What a trying piece of work this dame is! It makes you wonder if the nasty broad doesn’t suffer from Oppositional Defiant Disorder! Or “O.D.D.”) Gerry screams back at her that he’ll go to Guayamos and start looking in every nook and cranny [hasta por debajo de las piedras=turn over every rock] and kicking up a scandal if he has to, so she rolls her eyes and relents.
Amidst all the cacti and scrubby brush, Van empties out the plastic jug of water he bought and leaves it. He struggles up off the ground and continues walking into the night along the desert which is closer than he realizes to the coastline the camera has just panned. (With a slight tightening of our beanies we will suppose also that he doesn’t stop to sleep that night or the following day and night either.)
In Guayamas Lucia and Maripaz talk about how they miss their daddy. Mari still is angry with him for not letting her abort like she and her mother wanted her to do. Now they’re stuck in that tiny little shack, in that miserable town, without their friends, bored to death, waiting for her belly to blow up like a balloon! Lucia suggests that it would be nice if they could they keep the baby, but Mari considers it nothing more than a nuisance. “—Nice for who? Pretty soon everyone would find out and know what happened!” Lucia suggests telling them it was one they picked up from somewhere. Ri-i-i-i-ght! Mari sneers back. All she wants is to go back to the way things were when she could be with her friends, i.e., partying, going to clubs, and enjoying herself! Lucia is disgusted with her selfish attitude. How would Ivan feel her wanting to be free of such a “nuisance”? Mari good give a rat’s patoot and says she hopes that Ivan is as miserable as she is right now!
It would seem that Ivan is. He’s crossing the desert without food and water and at high noon wondering how he ever got into such a fix.
Camilo, a nice enough guy but with a slack-jawed look that always makes you wonder if he’s got a full stack of pavers in his pile, is sitting in a bar knocking back a few tragos with Antolin and discussing what’s happening with Ivan. Anto is certain that the dude ought to be in L.A. by now. Cam still feels rotten about lying to Van about who really stabbed and killed the guy during the street fight and then convincing him to leave the country when he should have stayed and stuck it out in college. Anto is pissed at his little bro for bringing that up again. Anto’s not going to feel guilty about that. It was Van’s fault for getting involved with a rich guy’s daughter in the first place; that’s why they sent somebody to beat him up! Why should they get screwed [embarrar = get covered in mud /sh!t ] because they tried to help him out? Anto says, naw, he’s sure that Van’s probably got a job now and even an American girlfriend already, the sly son of a gun!
The next day Carlota calls Lu to give her their new phone number there. Lu gripes that Gerry forced her to give him their address and will probably show up there sooner or later. She doesn’t want the girls left alone with him cuz he might bad-mouth her to them. Carly hints broadly that that’s Luscreechia’s way of doing things, not Gerry’s, but it doesn’t matter now anyhow. He’s already come and taken the girls to lunch with him.
Van, meanwhile, falls down exhausted and nearly unconscious from heat and thirst. He cries out for his mother not to abandon him and kisses her rosary. A deadly [petting zoo?] scorpion approaches but he opens his eyes and notices it just in time. He gets up and kisses his mother’s rosary—his good luck charm—again and struggles on.
At lunch back in Guayamos at the beautiful marina there, Gerry tries convincing Mari to keep the baby; they could say it was some dead relative’s. “--Come off it! Nobody’s going to believe that! We’re not coming back with a kid in our arms like we picked up some stray dog!” (Yeah, I guess it does sort of defeat the purpose of them sticking it out in Guayamos.) People will figure it out, she reasons, and then she’ll end up single because no one will want to marry a girl with a kid. (Works for me!) Nope! Let somebody who can give him a decent home take him. She’s putting him up for adoption and that’s that!
That night, Van finally makes his way to the highway and sees the valley full of the lights of Los Angeles below it.
The next day back in Guayamos, Gerry’s left and Luscreechia has come for a quick visit with some looser fitting clothes for Mari. Lu fills in Carly about Alicia dying from an abortion and Van heading off to sneak into the U.S.
Carly goes to the church to pray for Ivan while the girls chat with their mother.
Van eventually makes it to Benito’s cousin’s house and knocks on the door. (It’s not the best of neighborhoods, we note.) One look and Bennie knows something went wrong. He should have arrived three days ago. Van tells Ben how the coyote’s abandoned them, etc. and that once he got near there the driver didn’t want to take him into the area. Bennie laughs and says yeah, the area has gangs [pandillas]. He offers Van a place to stay for a day or two till he can find a job and a room somewhere. Bennie laughs and says he’s a bit too chambroso [filthy] to look just yet. At least they have a bathroom and running water for him to clean up in.
Once Carly’s back, Luscreechia and she discuss Ali’s death a bit more freely with the girls gone to bed. Screechia has no sympathy for Ali, the lizard [lagartona]! Who knows who the father of that baby might have been, anyway. She isn’t sorry one bit the woman’s dead! Carly insists that she ought to let Mari wed Van, but Screechia refuses; he’s the son of a maid! Carly insists she was still Teodoro’s bio-daughter and as such, Ivan’s due her part of the inheritance! Screechia tries insisting that he took advantage of Maripaz and doesn’t deserve it. Carly reminds her that Mari was as much to blame as he was. Anyway, they can’t marry, Lu says, because they’re cousins! Carly snickers. “--Don’t give me that! You know perfectly well there was no real blood tie [parantezco] between you and Alicia! He’s a good kid and was ready to do his duty by Maripaz, which is more than I can say about your father!” Carly complains again about the way he knocked her up and the then snuk away like a coward! And, no, she hasn’t heard from him since and doesn’t want to. Her face lights up. She knows who Ivan’s pappy is though! “--He’s no crook, but he is a cad and a scoundrel [sinvergüenza]!” Screechia is shut-my-mouth-scandalized-impactada to learn that Ivan is Juan Jeil-me’s son.
The next day back in L.A., Bennie and Van discuss his chances of finding work there. Van is lucky, he says, because he doesn’t look “so Mexican”. He should be able to work pretty easily in a Mexican restaurant for a friend of his.
At the same time, back in Guayamos, Carly hands over the divorce papers Gerry left with her to LuScreechia. Just sign on the dotted line. It’s a no-fault divorce and they divvy up even-Steven.
In L.A., Van and Bennie arrive at the friend’s restaurant. “—This guy speaks English and goes to the university.” The owner, Rogelio, doesn’t want to hire him at first cuz it looks like he’s been in a scuffle and he wonders if Van’s got the border police out looking for him. Did he sneak into the country? No, Ivan lies. It was a family hassle. Bennie eventually talks him into taking Van on as a busboy [moso=bellhop, waiter, stable boy].
A day or two later, JJ pays a visit to Lu and mentions people are starting to talk. They all think Gerry left her. Lu admits then that they got a divorce and he went to Mexico to sell the house to divvy up the profits as part of the settlement.
In L.A. Van is going to look for someone he can room with from the restaurant.
JJ wonders if Gerry left Screechia for another woman. Heck no, she says! They never got on and he was so useless on a ranch. It’s all she can do to keep things afloat, no thanks to him! JJ offers his help in running the ranch since who knows what kind of untrustworthy thieves you get these days for foremen [caporales], especially when a woman is owner.” Lucretia gets a flirtatious grin on her face and starts playing with her earring. (Feeling a bit randy, are we, Lulu?) Oh, well, she’s sure she can trust Leandro, but she will accept his kind offer anyway.
That evening at work, Van introduces himself to one of the cooks, Augustin, and asks if he knows a place he can bed down. Augi takes Van with him after work to a place in some abandoned part of a parking garage where a bunch of mojados sleep. He’s welcome to join them. Van wonders why Augi hasnn’t looked for someplace else? Because he doesn’t care to, says Augi. (Ok….So much for some lesser parts of society.) So where are the facilities? There are public restrooms around. Van takes a flattened cardboard box and lays himself down for the night. He thinks about the last time he saw his mother. (Well, at least he’s alive and kicking.) Suddenly he sits up and prays. “Lord, I know what I’m asking is not decent, but please allow me the favor [dar me la gracia] to get even with all those who’ve done me wrong!!”
Five months go by. Gerry comes by and goes ga-ga over Mari’s big belly. He’s taking them three of them all out to eat. While the girls get ready, he hands Carly the final documents from the divorce. He couldn’t sell the house and has found a job with a construction company (but I didn’t catch whether it was a place in Alamos or in the D.F.)
After their meal the girls go to the restroom. Carly says it’s three months till the baby’s due. Gerry still doesn’t like the idea of a foundling home or an orphanage. Well, says Carly, it wouldn’t be any better for the kid having to live with Maripaz, either. She’s too immature for any of this. At least the baby has a chance to live with a family that will be able to give it the love and attention it won’t find living with them. He finds out that Ivan went to the U.S. With the look on Gerry’s face, obviously he doesn’t understand Van’s reckless and drastic decision.
Carly then suggests to Gerry that it’s time for him to start a new life and try to find a good woman, especially, she adds, after the horrible way her daughter treated him all these years.
Van writes a letter to Cam and he reads it to his family. Ivan writes that it was a nightmare [pesadilla] getting to L.A., but that luckily he’s found work as a busboy. He gives him Bennie’s address and asks for the family’s phone number. His dad says if that’s all there is in that note, then things are probably pretty bad there for him. Carmen asks why he had to leave when he should have stayed there! Cam looks away, feeling guilty as ever.
After reading the letter, Cam goes into his room and tears it up. The guilt is overwhelming. “—I don’t want any letters from you, Ivan! I tricked you and because of that you’re far away and all alone! I don’t want to read how you miss us or how it’s going for you. I don’t want to know anything about you!!”

El Mundo de Telemundo, Week of August 15, 2011: Discuss Amongst Yourselves
¡Hóla a todos! A new week begins.
MÍ CORAZÓN INSISTE viernes - This had to have been the shortest novela pregnancy ever! As we saw on Thursday, Lola decides to go to Panama to try and find traces of her mother. When did Soledad escape from Tiberio and presumably leave Panama? Lola must be at least 22, if she spent 4 years in an adult prison. It has to have been a long time ago so it is not surprising that she spends seven months showing Soledad's picture to people who don't remember her.
At some point, Tiberio decides to go to Panama, too, parking Soledad in the same whorehouse as the seemingly permanently strung out Adela. He follows her around and finally has someone give her some information about her childhood and passes on the news that Soledad killed Tiberio with the acid attack, the evidence of which is a tombstone.
Lola goes to the cemetery and sees the tombstone. Since Soledad presumably has a tombstone, too and Lola is sure that she is still alive, this doesn't seem like really strong proof that Tiberio is dead. Lola doesn't know what to think. She calls Etelvina and tells her that they are returning to LA. Right after that, her water breaks and Chabela, not being real, isn't much help. Tiberio is following and he takes her to the hospital where she give birth to a baby girl. She names her Isabel, in honor of her aunt.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo has been going to every town along the US Mexican border. He finally finds the security guard who used his ill-gotten gains to buy a taco stand but isn't interested in working there. We know this town is in Mexico because there are Mexican flags everywhere and Rodrigo puts on a sing-song Mexican accent. He pretends to be a cop to the disgruntled taco stand worker who blabs the whole story about how the guard was given the choice to accept money and testify falsely or be killed.
Andrés has adjusted to prison life and is teaching drawing and poetry writing, I think, to his fellow inmates. While he is manhandling a large piece of meat in the kitchen, he flashes back to the trial and the two murderers theory put forward by Camilo at the trial. At the time, he had rejected it because it seemed to incriminate Lola but now as he stabs the meat with both hands, he believes that there were two different people attacked Marcelo.
Andrés tells Camilo that this insight plus the new testimony by the guard will get him out of jail. [I'm not exactly sure how that helps. Showing that Marcelo had two assailants would only suggest that Andrés had an accomplice and I don't believe the guard saw who hit him. Of course, if the guard testifies that he was paid to perjure himself, that might cast doubt on Andrés' guilt.]
Andrés and a very business-coiffed Débora a have their usual argument about Lola. Andrés asks Débora to deposit some money in Rodrigo's account because he has spent all his savings searching for the security guard. Ramon is reluctant to do this and finally he points out to Débora the big disadvantages for both of them if Andrés gets out of prison.
Camilo is still coming on to Sofía without much success. We find out that Danny is in Amsterdam- the drug capital of Europe.
I think that was about it.
FLOR SALVAJE - viernes
We have the big initiation spectacle with Flor dancing with the support of the other girls. Rafi gets up and tells the rest of the crowd to look but not touch. This one is his alone.
La Trepadora, aka Rocío is back in town. Zahra asks why she is so concerned with Amanda's fate.
Meanwhile Clara swears that she will go after anyone who gets between her and Mariano.
Amanda's other older sister, Susanna, helps Olga in the kitchen, in contrast to the bitchy Ana. Their arguing upsets Beba.
Meanwhile Sacto is leaving town. He says goodbye to Amanda and then goes and frees Catalina and also buries the last bit of Alirio. Catalina's idea of revenge seems to be ripping up Rafi's shirts.
The father of Amanda & her sisters appears to have regrets about abandoning them.
Rocío asks Zahra not to let this happen to Amanda. Zahra replies that Amanda has no choice and is doing what she has to to protect her family. She says Rocío had a choice and came to the 4p's voluntarily to punish herself and that is why she doesn't have many customers.
Rafi takes Flor to her casita with it's own special colored light bulb. It turns out that Flor is not willing to 'cumplir,' go through, with her bargain. She uses her mother's herbal knowledge and drugs Rafi with the extract of a flower.
The reporter want Malicia to be his model. He tells her that he has never paid for sex. He only sleeps with a woman if they both want it.
Cataline gets help in leaving town from Raimundo who appears to be the husband of the snooty school mistress, Brigida.
The maid discovers that Catalina has escaped.
Rafi wakes up and figures out that Flor drugged him. He is about to get what he wants by force when he gets the news about Catalina.
Sacto stumbles upon a line of guys waiting to try and get work in the oil fields. When someone in the line pushes another one out saying that he is too old to work in the oil fields, impulsive Sacto demands respect for the aged and starts a big fight. Things are not looking too good for him until he is helped by another job seeker, a former sailor named Pablo Aguilar and José Luis Resendez makes his appearance in the novela.
Rafi brutally flogs the maid about where Catalina is. He finally figures out that if Alirio's remains are missing, it must have been Sacto who freed Catalina.
With Raimundo's help, Catalina gets to Timoteo. She is about to get a on a train to the capital when Mariano announces that the train won't leave unless she is found.
COMMENTS: I'm not sure what Amanda thought she'd gain if she drugged Rafi other than to make him angry and more likely to take what he wants by force. It's not like she can go anywhere.
Since Rafi is in the oil business, it wouldn't seem that working on an oilrig is not going to be a great way to for Sacto to stay away from him and Amanda. He was on foot. How far could have gotten from Nuevo Esperanza?
Over to you now.
