Teresa Tue 8/23/11 #122 Teresa's stuck in the hood as her grasp on Mariano slips.

Aurora has told Teresa that Martin caught her and Mariano in a liplock

CHEZ BARRERA: Luisa can’t believe Arturo has taken Teresa to live at the vecindad. Arturo asks her to butt out and let him do things his way. She doesn’t understand why he’s being so proud, especially with Fernando who’s proved himself again and again as a loyal friend. He tells her she’ll understand in time. Until then, he asks for her to support him and not complicate matters and definitely not say anything to Teresa.

CASA CHAVEZ: Aurora is filling Teresa on the drama that has been her life these past few days: telling Mariano she wants nothing to do with him and Martin broke it off cuz he knows she doesn’t love him. Teresa’s confused, Martin is out yet Aurora doesn’t plan to go after Mariano? Teresa understands why she wouldn’t since he’s still in love with her (Teresa). Then, in true Sharkita fashion, she tells Aurora how Mariano told Arturo he was coming for her (Teresa). She acts as though she didn’t mean to tell her this. Aurora isn’t fooled by this little act and knows Teresa wouldn’t have mentioned it unless she wanted Aurora to know. She tells Teresa she’s only happy when everyone is after her and sees Mariano as her property and vice-versa. Aurora refuses to play this game so it would be best if she doesn’t mention him to her. Teresa is impactada. I guess she can’t believe Princess Aurora actually raised her voice.

HOSPITAL: Dario gives Mariano a disk that Aurora left for him containing all the information on the project. Dario asks what’s up and Mariano pretends nothing’s going on. Dario sarcastically assumes this is why they’re both avoiding each other and Mariano acts as though he’s a dog without an owner (perro sin dueño). Since Mariano isn’t likely to provide a response to this, Dario leaves and Mariano calls Aurora.

CASA DE JUANA: Aurora is visiting Juana when the call from Mariano comes through but she doesn’t answer it. She tells Juana she will follow Martin’s advice. He always said that in order to forget someone, it’s best to pretend they never existed. Juana understands completely because Mariano stubbornly refuses to stop thinking of Teresa. She wishes he would change because he and Aurora would make such a lovely couple. He’s an excellent guy. Aurora agrees except that he has what Dario likes to call the “Teresa effect”. Juana understands and wistfully talks about the difficutly of forgetting someone no matter how hard one tries. Aurora notices this and questions her. Juana shrugs it off and changes the subject by asking about Hector. Aurora says he’s still upset with her and will be more so after what she tells him today.

BACK AT THE HOSPITAL: Ay, ay, ay, AEEEEEEEEEEDA drops in on Mariano. He tells her she’s always welcome so long as she’s not here to raise a ruckus. Good one, Mariano! Aida apologizes and again says it was just that she was so angry over Teresa cheating on her husband with Mariano. He tells her there was no need for her to be bringing that up, especially in front of everyone. Does she want to ruin his image by bringing it up in front of patients, nurses, the whole world. Aida apologizes, saying she wasn’t thinking. That’s precisely her problem, he tells her, she’s too impulsive and doesn’t consider who’s hurt by her actions. Esperanza’s married now and doesn’t bother her for anything. It’s clear Aida doesn’t want her father to have any contact with the baby and yet she instigates an altercation (agrediste). All right already, she says, she didn’t come here to fight. She came her because she has to know if he’s going after Teresa now that she’s in the vecindad. Mariano says he’s finally realized she loves Arturo and he needs to live his life without her. Aida of course assumes this leaves the way clear for her. Mariano makes it very clear nothing has changed between them. She wonders if it’s because of Aurora. She knows he kissed her and wonders if he’s interested in her. OMG, what are we in high school? I’m almost embarrassed for her.

CASA DE JUANA: Now Teresa is visiting and she’s holding Rodiguito, fawning over him. They talk of her financial situation. Juana is sure Arturo will treat her as a queen once again but they both have to work very hard. Teresa complains it will take years to make that kind of cash again. She doesn’t want the money when she’s old, she wants it now! She explains she’s in a bad mood because of Aurora. She finds out Juana already knows the story about The Kiss and the breakup and that Aurora still have feelings for Mariano. Juana wonders if she’s angry because of Mariano. Teresa says she’s angry because she split with Martin, who is so rich and handsome. What more could she want? Teresa is sure Mariano will never love her. Juana’s not so sure and tells her Mariano’s been trying to call Aurora at all hours and she refuses to take his call. Teresa’s not too happy to hear this.

HOSPITAL: Aiiiiiiiiiida continues her clingy act. Mariano feels bad about Aurora and Martin’s breakup but all Aida wants to know is what’s up with him and Aurora? He tells her to butt out. It’s over between them, this is none of her business. Ay, ay, ay, she still wants an answer and doofus Mariano says that although he’s interested, Aurora won’t even take his calls. Aida doesn’t let up. Mariano begs her to stop pressuring him. He was always straight with her. He tells her Aurora has resigned from their project and wouldn’t be surprised if she takes her residency at another hospital just to get away from him. OMG, Aida hasn’t heard a word. She’s hurt he doesn’t pay attention to her but she’s at least happy to hear he’s not involved with Aurora, or Teresa who has caused him so much harm. Ack, she finally leaves.

BARRERA HOUSE: Poor Reina is lugging Teresa’s suitcase down the stairs and asks if she should have it delivered to the vecindad. Teresa instructs her to use the term, “casa nueva”. Fernando is there and tells her he, and Luisa, have been worried about her. Teresa tells him not to worry, she’ll be fine. She needs to support her husband during these trying times. Besides, he and Luisa must focus on preparing for the wedding. She herself is going to take some time off work to dedicate herself to helping them with the preparations.

HECTOR’S OFFICE: Aurora tells Daddy they must talk. He’s still disappointed at what she did. She understands but she doesn’t want him to stay angry with her. He only hopes she’s not going to waste her time on Mariano. No, she needs to take some time by herself to decide what she wants to make of her life and that’s why she wants to go spend some time alone in Cuernavaca.

“CASA NUEVA” DE BARRERA: Teresa’s back at her new digs and talking to good ol’ Mariano Teddy Bear. She pats it and says these jewels are hers and she really needs them. She also says Mariano can never be with Aurora. He can never stop loving her, Teresa, NEVER! CARAAAAAAZZZZZY!! There’s a knock at the door and the Twisted Sisters (Oriana and Aida) have come a-calling saying they’ve come to check out the “Nueva Casa”. Aida tells her she’s returned to the vecindad, the place she never should have left to begin with. They both enter her bathroom and laugh at the condition of the sink and tub. Aida declares it a dreadful (espantoso) place befitting a rrrrrrrrrata de vecindad. They’re both laughing and jeering at Teresa who calmly pulls out her phone and takes their picture. She wants to keep it as a memento for when they come to visit her at her next home which will be bigger and better than Casa Barrera. Oriana doesn’t believe she’ll be lucky enough for that to happen again. Teresa tells them it won’t take her as long as it did the last time. She studied and worked hard and it did take some time the first time around. But she knows the way now and she will surprise them, muy pronto! Especially Madam O! Oriana is intrigued by this. Teresa tells her life takes many turns and it usually comes at the price of what one loves most. Oriana doesn’t know what to make of this, but she ain’t laughing now!

HECTOR’S OFFICE: Hector’s not happy to hear she’s planning to take off on her own. She reminds him she’s a grown woman and knows what she wants to do, at least until she finishes her residency. He points out that she’s never been alone. Well, it’s time she was and if he doesn’t want to let her use the house in Cuernavaca he should let her know now. It doesn’t matter where, but she’s leaving. Hector’s perplexed.

CASA NUEVA DE BARRERA: Oriana is well aware of what Teresa is capable and that’s why she convinced Fernando to push up the date of his wedding. It’s best to take precautions (previnir). She also tells her they they will live in Spain after they’re married, far away from Teresa. Teresa’s glad to hear this. As long as they’re happy because she really does love Luisa……not to mention Fernando! All this while, Aida has been poking her nose in every nook and cranny of the apartment. Teresa offers them a drink but Aida declines saying she prefers to drink champagne at her own home, her big home. Teresa says she’ll have a toast here because she hears Mariano left her and now he and Aurora will be very happy. She wonders if Aurora’s told her that he is constantly looking for her. This really gets to Aida and Oriana just shakes her head.

HOSPTITAL: Mariano sits at his desk and begins to write an e-mail to Aurora.

CASA BARRERA: Ruben is visiting with Arturo telling how surprised he was to hear he sold his firm. Arturo tells him he’s had to make many changes, even his place of residency. Ruben sees he’s had a run of bad luck, just like him. Ruben is bitter, thinking of how he lost Mayra because of his affair with Esperanza. Arturo reminds him he once told him to decide which one he would want to stay with. He hopes that Mayra’s travels will help her recover from the divorce and everything he did to her. Ruben still can’t believe Esperanza got married. Arturo tells him she’s very happy and that he and Teresa are Rodrigo’s godparents. Ruben balks at the name and Arturo asks that he allow that child to be happy. They’re planning a party for him this Saturday and he warns Ruben not to come near him. Ruben swears he won’t cause any problems. He’s continuing his fight for custody/visitation and knows he must be patient. Arturo takes a call and leaves him alone. Ruben quickly calls Fito telling him he now knows how they can proceed so he can get what he wants.

VECINDAD: Oriana and Aida finally leave. She has no doubt Arturo’s bad luck began the day he got involved with Teresa. Aida warns her she knows Teresa will not stand idly by. She’s sure she’s plotting against them. Aida bids the old battleaxe good bye and plans to visit the clinic as long as she’s here. She tells Oriana she plans to continue volunteering in order to stay close to Teresa so she can harass her. Oriana walks toward her car and Buttberto. Goofus notices Juana walking up and makes a big show of placing his jacket over Oriana’s jacket to ward off the chill in the air. He goes so far as to hug her. Juana does notice and then goes into the building. She doesn’t see Oriana fling the jacket at him and shout at him for having the audacity to act so familiar with her. The nerve!

CASA CHAVEZ: Buttberto’s ploy worked. Juana’s jealous and complains to Refugio and Esperanza. She also tells them he expects a response to his proposal on Saturday. Refugio mentions Aurora’s situation with Martin as an example of how badly things can turn out. FF>>>

BACK AT CASA BARRERA: Arturo comes back after his call. They chitchat a bit more about Arturo’s circumstances and the talk turns to Luna Turqueza and waiting for the condos to sell in order to have some money. Ruben wonders how Teresa has taken Arturo’s reversal of fortune.

VECINDAD: Speaking of our Sharkita, she stands on the roof of the building surveying her new, old surroundings. She’s having flashbacks of her romantic rooftop dinners with Mariano when they spoke of their hopes and dreams for the future. With tears in her eyes, she thoughtbubbles and says she needs to forget about the past and plan for the future. She runs into mom, who has a full load of Arturo’s shirts to wash (by hand). Refugio suggests she ask Pati to help her keep the apt clean for a small fee. Teresa likes that idea and she’s going to ask Juana to help with the meals because she has better things to do with her time. She looks around the rooftop in disgust.

CASA DE JUANA: Hector has come by in the evening and they discuss Aurora’s breakup. He’s very worried about her going off to Cuernavaca alone. Juana reminds him she’s no longer a child. She needs to be by herself to get over Martin. He needs to let her go. He’s afraid she’ll become depressed (deprimir). Juana promises to visit her if that will make him feel better. He likes the idea of them having a woman to woman talk. He thanks her for helping him. He could tell Aurora not to go but he knows she’d do it anyway. He’s never seen her so determined. She tells him it’s difficult sometimes for women to come to a decision. They’re not as practical as men. (ahem, speak for yourself, sister). Poor delusional Hector. He tells her it’s a good thing she loves him as much as she does. The best thing that could happen would be for them to unite their lives for-ev-er! She just stares at him with that guilty look as he kisses her hands and caresses her cheek.

SPEAKING OF AURORA, back at the hospital she finds a white rose with a note from Mariano waiting for her. He thanks her for the info on the disc. He realizes she doesn’t want anything to do with him but he misses her. He longs to see her smile and share their morning coffee as usual. He misses their talks and all the things they’ve shared. He misses her very much. She sighs. Then she tears up the note and puts the rose back on the table. Magda walks in just then and admires the rose. Aurora tells her she can keep it in water for everyone to admire. She doesn’t want it. It isn’t the rose’s fault that she doesn’t want the person who sent it to her. How dramatic.

MARIANO is brooding in his office in front of his computer. As he gets up to leave we see that he’s been looking at a photo of him with Aurora. He arrives at the conference room as Magda is placing the rose in water and she tells him Aurora didn’t want it. She assumes Martin sent it to her. Mariano is crestfallen.

HONEY I’M HOME!!!! Arturo arrives home and Teresa begs him to get her outta here! He assumes it’s because she can’t stand the poverty. Oh no, she says, it’s only because she doesn’t want to run into Mariano and risk an altercation between him and Arturo. Arturo doesn’t understand why that would be so if she loves him (Arturo). She swears she does love him but she doesn’t understand why he brought her. She warns him if he doesn’t do something to get her out of here, she’ll do something about it. He reminds her they will leave here but not from one day to the next. She cries that she doesn’t want to be here. It’s worse than before. Before, this was her home and she worked to get out despite all the jeering she got from everyone. Now, people like Aida and Oriana are enjoying see her come back to this. She tells him of the visit from the Sisters of Satan and how she defended herself and told them they would one day live in a grand house bigger than the one they left. Cue the Jaws theme. And that’s what she intends to do, with him or without him! He demands to know what she means by that. She’s already told him. They need to work on their cases, getting Luna Turqueza to pay off, whatever needs to be done to get out of there! She doesn’t want to continue living there and frankly, I don’t blame her. No way am I doing laundry by hand. That’s where I draw the line!

JUANA’S APT: Hector and Juana joke about Teresa’s new living arrangements. Hector starts putting the pressure on to get married, even asking if she’d like to stay with him while Aurora’s gone! Hernan comes by to discuss Rodriguito’s fiesta. He tells them he’s hired a wait staff so no one will have to work the day of the fiesta, especially Juana. Hector agrees with that, saying she’s his strength, his reason for living. He needs her even more now that Aurora is leaving him alone for awhile.

A NEW DAY HAS DAWNED as we see Grumpy Grandpa (boy, we haven’t seen him in awhile) and he’s looking a little green around the gills. He runs into Pati who is singing “Las Mañanitas”. He can’t believe she’s wishing him a happy birthday. She’s brought him a gift, a homemade shirt. He tells her he doesn’t want gifts, he wants her. He wants her to leave that scoundrel. She remains cheerful and asks him to come and see her and join her for breakfast. He doesn’t want to but she insists. She leaves and he thinks about it.

CASA BARRERA: Fer, Luisa, and Momzilla discuss wedding plans. She tells them they can use her home in Madrid after the honeymoon. He tells her they haven’t made up their minds where they’ll live and besides they have unfinished business in Mexico. Oriana reminds him he has many issues pending in Spain related to his inheritance. She’s received word from the attorney that he’ll have his entire inheritance within 3 months, so they’ll need to be in Spain for awhile. Luisa sadly says she’ll go wherever Fernando goes. Fernando notices the sadness in which she says this. Luisa says it’s due to her concern for Arturo. She doesn’t want to leave him now under these circumstances. Fernando is sure he’ll be out of the vecindad by the time they leave for Spain. Oriana hopes so and hopes no one finds out he’s staying in that pigsty (pocilga).

SPEAKING OF THE POCILGA: The Barrera’s are sitting down to breakfast and Teresa comes up with a new plan. What if he sells her wedding ring and all her jewelry for that matter so they can get out of the vecindad. She begs him. He stands firm. He doesn’t want her to sell her jewelry. She feels it’s no use keeping them since she can’t wear them anyway for fear of thieves cutting off her hand to get her jewels. It’s not the same as it was when she’d come by on a visit with a chauffeur. Everything is different now. He asks her not to despair and hang in there. He wants her to keep everything he’s given her with so much love.

CASA BARRERA: Oriana has to admit she’s visited the vecindad, saying she accompanied Aida on a social call to Arturo but they only found Teresa home. Fernando confronts her: did she go visit Arturo? Or to harass Teresa? Oriana sarcastically says Fernando acts as though Teresa were a victim. Luisa responds that Teresa is a victim, of poverty and the scorn of people like Oriana who believe she’s different because she was poor. Oriana exclaims, but she is and her condition has made her ambitious. Fernando heats up saying there’s nothing wrong with ambition and Teresa has worked hard and that’s why he’s so angry Arturo has taken her back there. Oriana notices his passionate defense of Teresa. Oriana tells Luisa to be careful and then repeats that she’s convinced Teresa married Arturo for his money and time will prove her right. Fernando vehemently disagrees with Momzilla, saying Teresa loves Arturo and he took her back to the vecindad to put her to the test. Ooops, did he say that out loud?

VECINDAD: Refugio drops off Rodriguito with Pati while she goes to the roof to get her laundry. Knock at the door, no, it’s not Fito, it’s Grumpy Grandad. She still has Rodriguito in her arms and tells him to think of the day she’ll give him a great-grandson. He’s mortified at the thought.

CASA BARRERA: Luisa’s shocked to hear of Arturo’s plan. Oriana feels it’s obvious he would test her in a place where Mariano visits frequently. Fernando tells them to both promise not to repeat what he said. Luisa still can’t believe Arturo would do that to Teresa. Oriana feels Arturo’s insecurity is justified after learning Teresa slept with Mariano the day before she vowed eternal love for him in church. Fernando feels Arturo has already proved Teresa’s love for him and will be taking her out of the vecindad soon. He asks that they both be discreet. Oriana’s proud of Arturo. He’s not so dumb as she thought. Luisa feels this plan is offensive to Teresa. Oriana thinks it’s the perfect plan to see what stuff Teresa’s made of. If the plan works out even she’ll have to shut her trap! She feels it’s best not to say anything. This way, Arturo will be happy and Luisa will be helping her future husband.

JOHNNY/PATI’S APT: Grandpa has stayed for breakfast. Ay caray! Suddenly the old goat doubles over in pain. Pati suggests they go to the clinic but he refuses.

HOSPITAL: Aurora visits Hector in his office. He accepts her plan to go to Cuernavaca.

CASA BARRERA: Luisa asks Arturo to reconsider and move away from the vecindad. She swears Teresa didn’t ask her to intervene. She just knows how Teresa must feel about living there again. Arturo says Teresa must realize life has its ups and downs. Luisa asks if he’s punishing her because he speaks as though he’s trying to teach her a lesson. Arturo feels Teresa is young and immature and this experience will help her and will also strengthen their relationship. Luisa advises him to get Teresa out of there quickly if he loves her.

OUTSIDE THE VECINDAD, Teresa and Mariano run into each other. She assumes he’s happy to see her living here again after she rejected him for a better life. Of course he isn’t but he is sad because he knows how much she hates the place. He wants her to be happy. She tells him that for a moment she forgot he still loved her. Mariano tells her he was sincere with Arturo when he told him he loved her that day he went looking for her when he thought they were divorcing. She responds that when he was dating Aida she knew he still loved her. He admits this to be true. But all that has changed. He’s come to realize he’s much more interested in Aurora than he had realized. He never thought he’d feel that way for someone other than Teresa. Now that Aurora has stayed away, he realizes he can’t stop thinking of her and doesn’t want to be without her. Sad music as they stare deeply into each other’s eyes.

La Fuerza del Destino #15 Tue 08/23/11 Ivan Turns to the Dark Side

Our dear Gloria has had a migraine the last few days and understandably is unable to write a recap. I am putting up this discussion page with highlights from the episode. Please feel free to add details (or a mini-recap) that I would be happy to post here.

-Camilo tells Antolin that Ivan is back in town and is one of the Marvelously Rich McGuires. Antolin warns Camilo to keep his mouth shut about who actually killed the thug for hire.
- Antolin pays a happy/romantic visit to Carolina (he seems genuine with her) and tells her of his friend Ivan’s return. She looks nervous. Gerry looks just as nervous when she tells him the news later. She wonders what they should do.
-At Esther’s urging, JJ agrees to pay David a salary (sueldo).
-Camilo gives Ivan a full run down of all the ranchers and their needs. They decide to use the factory that Camilo’s dad used to oversee as their packing plant. Ivan’s still on the fence about helping the Curiels. Tony is not happy with this if it’s coming from a place of vengeance, but let’s Ivan make the final decision.
-JJ has a drink with Tony to get assurance that he won’t get locked out of the deal.
-Tony, Ivan and Camilo check out the fabulous house they’ve rented a few houses away from Casa Curiel.
-Ivan meets with Lucia. He gives her some smoldering looks. She is awkward with him and he thinks it’s because he broke her adolescent heart. She denies it and says it’s because her sister told her how he took advantage of her. She saw how much Maripaz hated the baby growing inside of her because of what Ivan did to her. After a few good shakes, Lucia admits the baby did not die but was kidnapped. They told Gerry that they put the baby in an orphanage as they had planned and they never made a report to the police. (Note that Ivan has just learned that Maripaz lied about a) her great love for him; b) loving the baby that was growing inside her; and c) the baby dying and her great grief over it. In addition to lying to everyone else that he took advantage of her.)
-Lucia is mortified that she spilled the beans and will now cause her family to lose the McGuire investment opportunity, which means losing the ranch. She runs to Gerry and Carolina for comfort, telling Gerry the truth about the baby for the first time. Gerry and Carolina once again look very nervous about Ivan.
-Tony pays a pleasant visit to Carlota. She remembers the name of his mother’s family. He insists she call him Tony. Looks like there may be a love connection in the future.
-Ivan is pissed at ALL the Curiel women. Maripaz and Lucrezia for being evil liars; Carlota for being an accomplice; and Lucia because, even at the age of 15, she knew right from wrong. He wants revenge.
-Ivan confronts Carlota and basically curses her out in her own home. She gives him the name of the real estate company in Guaymas that rented them the house and got them the housekeeper. She also tells him the first name of the housekeeper.
-Ivan meets Maripaz for a date, watches her get drunk, leads her on, and requests that she divorce David if she wants a relationship with him. She is happy to oblige if it means getting into his pants and his wallet.
-Tony is worried about Ivan’s heart being poisoned with hate and vengeance. He wants Camilo to help turn Ivan back to the light and away from dark side.
-Maripaz demands a divorce from David. After arguing a bit, and getting shoved around by Maripaz, he gives in. They announce their divorce to the Meandragon family the next morning. Maripaz also announces to the whole family that David couldn't get it up their wedding night. JJ is not pleased, to say the least.

Previews: JJ strikes David. Ivan kisses Lucia.

Teresa Mon 8/22/11 #121 High Stakes Poker Play: Teresa Sees Arturo’s Bet And Raises

Two minute replay: Arturo shocks the shinola out of Teresa by telling her their new love shack really is a shack—in the ol’ vecindad.  They’re taking over Chona’s mini-suite for as long as it takes for him to repay the remainder of his debts. Tere tells him she’d rather die than be drug back there to live after trying so hard to escape it all.

She races out with Art close behind.  Why? How could you do this to her–of all places and Chona’s place to boot—the littlest and most run-down of all the apartments in the complex??!!  She worked so hard to finally escape the ghetto and he’s brought her right back there again.  Well, says Art, mom, dad, Juana and all the rest of the old familiar faces will be near, and what’s so bad about that since he thought she’d appreciate having loved ones surrounding her during their time of need.  Right?  Or—doesn’t she love him and was theirs only a marriage of convenience?  (He may be handsome and hung, but right now I’d like to kick him in the shin, big time—the smart ass!) Teresa quiets down a bit and admits that she does love him.  If she loves him truly then she must prove it and support him throughout.  Tere says that it’s a lie that she married him for his money, and then agrees to stay with him as promised and responds to his request with a passionate kiss to prove it.

At the hospital later that morning, Mariano runs into Martin who is determined to give him and earful before heading back to France.  He’s angry thinking that he believed Mar’s little song and dance about seeing Aurora as only Teresa’s best friend and not “como mujer” [sexually].  Mar essentially says Aurora started it.  He apologizes for getting carried away and acting foolishly by kissing her, but Aurora did get mad at him after kissing him, and she’s sworn never to see him again.  “—Puh-leese!”  Marty reminds him it takes two to lip-tango.  The least Mar could have done was to admit his feelings for her!  Mariano says he couldn’t deal with his own feelings until he knew whether she and Marty were going to patch things up.  Heck no!  Of course they weren’t going to patch things up, says Marty.  Not because he didn’t love her, but because he’d lost her to Mariano.  “--Just let her down easy and don’t take advantage of her feelings, all right?”  Mar defends himself saying he’d never take advantage of her and despite what everyone thinks, he’s no longer interested in Teresa.  Marty snickers and rolls his eyes.  Aurora could no more stop loving Mariano anymore than Mariano could stop loving Teresa!  She’ll never stop loving Mar nor he Teresa!

At the same time, Aurora’s come for a little motherly advice from Juana.  Well, she’s free now, says Juana, and even though she shouldn’t have kissed Mariano, she did and so she might as well finish what she started with him.  Aurora’s too confused and she wants to be alooooone for a while.  Marty was right that she was always so eager to please others that she never really knew what she wanted for herself.  Now it’s time she find out.

Marty continues with the gripe session.  Mar admits it.  He realized after kissing Aurora that he feels differently about her now.  He has no interest in Teresa, though.  Marty asks if he’s prepared not to run to Teresa’s aid continually and only have time and eyes for Aurora?  Absolutely, promises Mar.  Marty says he hopes that’s the case, and that he learns how to properly appreciate her because he won’t be around to pick up the pieces once he’s gone.  Have no fear, promises Mariano.

Back in the vecindad, Aurora tells Juana she needs time to know herself and figure out her life.  She has no time for either Mariano or Martin right now.  She needs to get her personal life and priorities in order first and foremost.

Art takes Tere to their new little studio apartment in the ‘hood.  (Viewerville has to admit it’s been repainted and the door’s reinforced.  There are bright curtains on the windows and some of their furniture from home has been brought in to make it more than livable.)  She whines and sniffs as she looks it over.  The most run down apartment of them all!  OMG!  “--What’s the matter?”  Art acts sympathetically and asks if it brings back memories.  (He knows damn well that it does!)  He has no idea what it’s like living here, warns Teresa.  It won’t be anything that he’s used to.  He’ll manage, he’s sure of it.  Anyway, he thought she’d enjoy having all her loved ones around, especially her Mom and Pop and Esperanza who comes by daily to drop off little Rod with Pati and Johnny.  The fewer expenses while they’re paying off their debts, the better, he assures her.  (Art definitely earns a premio for this act!)

Once Art leaves to let Tere’s parents know they’re all moved in, Tere looks around and screams.  She wants to pinch herself awake!  “--This is just the worst nightmare!  I’ve got to get my house back!  What to do?  What do I do?”  Pacing and thinking, pacing and thinking.  (Team Tere anxiously awaits to see how she gets out of this one!)

Across the way, Refugio and Armando pray that Tere can put up with the bleak changes and living in the ‘hood again till things get better for hubby and her.  They light a candle to the virgencita and pray.

As Art starts up the stairs to the Chavez’s place, Chona comes running out asking if he’s done using her apartment and can she move back in now.  He’d told her he wouldn’t need it for long.  Art seems a little lost and embarrassed.  He tells Chona that he thought he’d be able to give it right back over to her, and that his wife wouldn’t want to stay but now she’s decided that she does.  (Viewerville does a major “Ahahhhhh!”)  He says he’ll need it a while longer and offers to pay her double the rent so she can find a nicer place to live for a while, and he’ll also continue helping Chona out.  (How about giving her a job while you’re at it?  Maybe let her cook and clean for you two, smarty pants!  Give her something permanent and meaningful that she feels she earns instead of begging charity from you, fool!  GRRRRR!!!!)  However, the only condition is that she’s not to tell a living soul about their agreement.

Back at the Heavenly Hights Pent-House Apartments complex, odious Oriana, Luisa and Fernando are discussing why Art wouldn’t accept a loan from La Odiosa.  Obviously, opines Lu, with Teresa involved, he’d rather do things on his own than to bring Odiana into the mix.  Odiana chuckles aloud.  She gets a kick at how the gal who came from the projects and has now returned to them.  Lu changes the subject to their decision about moving up the wedding date.

At the same time, Tere listens to some familiar tunes and gathers her composure.  Nobody and nothing will humble her [doblegar].  She will have to get control of her feelings.  Just then Art and her parents come in.  Tere wipes the tears off her face and stiffens her spine.    Refusio marvels at the improvements.  What a paint job!  Art admits to having the plumbing fixed, too.  (Whoo-hoo!)  Ref asks if the furniture is new.  No, says Art.  He brought it from the house, but all the rest he purchased with the money he got from selling the antique clock Nando gave them for a wedding present.  Teresa nearly has a cow when she hears, but she doesn’t say a thing.  Art tells Army that he sees this as a new beginning for him and Teresa.

A bit later, Ref and Tere are in the kitchen.  Ref says she knows Tere got married without love, but she and her daddy have prayed she’d come to love Arturoand it seems she’s changed since she’s decided to stay here with him.  Tere sits at the kitchen table and swears to her that if it’s the last thing she does, she’s getting out of this place ASAPP!!

Back at the hospital, Dr. Magpie Magda begs Aurora not to leave the project she shared with Mariano.  Too bad, already done, she says.   Mariano comes over and says that he has to speak with her about Marty and their situation.  Aurora says there is no “us” and the only thing that might interest her is what Martin has to tell her and he can see her whenever he cares to and vice versa, but as for Mariano, she wants nothing more to do with him.  He can’t understand her harsh attitude.   At any rate, he says, at least let me thank you for my stethoscope.  Hernan told me about that and you know how important it was for me to have when I started medicine.

Refu is worried now that Tere might leave Art.  Of course not, hisses Tere, but since the last time she left the vecindad she has a degree, she knows how to work and she and her hubby both have contacts.  That’s how and why she plans to leave there with him in only a few months.  Well, says Ref, she can see now that Tere really does love Arturo.  What a relief!  Tere is like yeah, big whoop!  In the living room, at the same time, Art tells Army what a great legal assistant [gestor= one who goes for legal documents on a client’s behalf] he’s turned into.  He looks forward to working with him in the new little legal office.  Just then who should barge in uninvited with cash in hand to pay Chonita’s overdue rent but Cutbertho!  Art explains he and Tere are living there now instead.  Buttberto races into the kitchen and greets her back into the vecindad with the brightest and widest of smiles.  Tere gives him the stink-eye and pouts.

Back at the hospital, Aurora suggests that if Mariano really needs to speak to somebody, he should speak to Aida.  Mar says what for because he knows she’s not the gal for him.  No, that’s right, Aurora quips. That’s Teresa!   Aurora turns on her heel and leaves while Mar puts on his lonesome lowly hound dog face.

Buttberto barges in on Juana now to tell her the latest on Tere and hubby moving into the vecindad.  He gets a large charge from Teresa’s circumstances and gloats.  She thought she was better than us but she’s no better than us now!

Art meets Nando for coffee and confesses he’s begun his plan to get even with Tera and expose her.  He thought she wouldn’t stay but she did.  Nando says she does love you then!  Art’s not so sure; she’s extremely intelligent and very astute.  She probably suspects he’s putting her to the test and therefore he has decided to live there for the next three months.  Nando forcibly objects when Art tells him the place he rented is back where Teresa grew up.  You can’t do that to her! Art is WTF? Impactado by his BFF’s reaction.

Juana comes over to chat with Teresa and to tell her she couldn’t believe it when Buttberto told her the news.  Teresa tells her she couldn’t either.  Well obviously [de plano], says Juana, he’s got to be hurting for money to live here! Tere says she know Art still doubts she really loves him, but the moment she knows he believes her, she swears, they’ll be outta there so fast it’ll make your head swim!  All of a sudden the door bangs open. (Damn!  You’d think Teresa, at least, would have learned to lock her door by now!)  It’s Buttberto fiddling a jig.  Johnny, Pati and Refu trailing close behind with flowers and cake ready to celebrate Teresa’s return to the ‘hood.   Tere yells at her mother.  What was she thinking?  What’s to celebrate about moving into a place like this?  Juana voices her agreement.  Buttberto plays the fool and pretends they had only the best of intentions.   Tere is ready to take that violin and bust it over the lying, sneaking jerk wad’s head or, better yet, across his big fat gossipy mouth. (Viewerville seconds that emotion!)  She races into her bedroom for a big cry.  She doesn’t know how she’s going to stand it!

As for Art, he is reveling in the fact that she’s right back in the pigsty she came from.  He’s not leaving until he gets to the truth, either!  Nando struggles to keep it in while Art describes their lovemaking last night and then spouts his doubts again.  Nando isn’t up with the vengeance thing, ‘specially where Tere’s concerned.  She loves Art, plainly, so what’s the need to continue this deception instead of just moving to a much simpler house and to be done with it?  No, says Art.  It burns him thinking of the way she and Mariano mocked him and slept together!  No, it’s one thing to say you’d live with a person but very different to actually do it!  Besides, she’ll have to prove herself and her love whenever Mariano comes back to the vecindad to visit or to work at the free clinic there.

Nando continues to plead Teresa’s case.  The woman obviously loves Art; he’s keeping up the ruse just to unjustly torment [mortificar] her.  What if she finds out Arts set this all up and plotted?  Oh, says Art, she won’t.  (Famous last words, Art fans!)  Nobody knows but Nando—unless he’s told Luisa?  Not a chance, says Nando, he gave his word; but he hates like heck hiding things from her and he feels terrible for Teresa!  Art looks steely-eyed and repeats he’s going through with this till he’s certain she loves him or until it’s obvious she only married him for his money!

Luisa visits Tere and she shows her the grand place her brother’s decided to bring her to live.  Lu is open-mouthed because she didn’t believe that her brother was going to be this badly off financially, she says.  Right, says Tere.  Can you imagine what Odiana’s friends will say when they get wind of it????  She tells Teresa that she will definitely talk to him about this because this place is no where even close to the way Art described their financial situation or how they’d be living! Now this is a horse of a different color for Teresa.  “--Really?”  Her S-I-L is really taking the place in and says of course Art told her they wouldn’t exactly be millionaires any longer, but they could live rather nicely in a simpler house and would have all the normal amenities.

Teresa says well, Art prefers getting out of debt and so she’ll be here to support him.  She makes a point of asking to leave their things at “Luisa’s” house because they can scarcely fit an armoire in there and nothing of theirs will be able to fit.  Sure, agrees Lu.  Tere tells her not to bother discussing it with her brother after all.  She wouldn’t want to hurt his feelings and as for Oriana, well let her pretend to her friends that they’re still living at the mansion.  Luisa tells her how grateful she is to see how much she loves and cares for her brother no matter what has happened to him.  Tere gives Lu a seemingly heartfelt hug good bye and tells her she’s just grateful for the visit.  However, the minute Lu’s out the door it seems Teresa’s back to her old self and her old games—but this time with a twist.  “Ahahhhh!  Since you’re thinking to put me to the test, Arturo, be advised you have no idea just who you’re playing with!”

~~End first half~~

==========================================

Marty runs into Aurora on his way out of the hospital.  Aurora wants to apologize, but he sees no reason to.  They’ll be friends.  He was there to explain to her daddy why it didn’t work out in the end.  Ok.  A final hug and kiss good-bye.  (Yawn. Finally. Marty is not my cuppa cuppa and I’m glad to see him go.) FF>>

That night Tere turns the charm and sensuality knob all the way to “HIGH” when welcoming home Arturo from a not so hard day at the mill.  They may have very little now, Snookums, but all she really wants is you!  He is putty in Teresa’s very capable hands…..

The next day, Big-mouth Buttberto polishing his limo in front of the vecindad and chattering away while Mariano listens.  Mariano finally asks the $64000 question: What’s the name of the woman you work for, anyway?  Buttberto tells him: Oriana Guijerro!  Mariano is quick to realize then that it really was Buttberto who spilled the beans to her and she was the one who told Arturo about him and Tere doing the deed the night before her wedding and their plans to elope the next day!!  Buttberto looks muy guilty as charged.

Refu comes over to Tere’s as Art had sent word for her.  He asks her to help Teresa put a phone line for the apartment.  Suddenly Tere thinks to herself that this is for reals.  It’s not just a simple test of her love.  She nearly doubles over from the shock.

Outside on the street again, Buttberto tries to explain that he didn’t mean any harm by it; that it started because he was trying to explain how Tere had scared his Juanita off him and how he couldn’t stomach Teresa.   Mariano gets him to swear not to say another word about Teresa to him.  Well, he was going to tell her about Teresa being back in the vecindad now.  Mar is whadyamean? impactado.  She’s living back here at her parents’ again?  No, says BB, her husband and she are living here together.

Inside, Art, Tere and Refu are putting together a budget.  (What fun.  Budgets are for the little people.)  They quibble over what they need versus what her mother might consider necessary.

Outside, Buttberto tells Mariano that since he’s the one on top and is the rich one, there's no time like the present to make his play for Teresa!  Mariano refuses point blank. Teresa made her choice.  It’s obvious she loves her husband—and much more than she loves me if she agreed to move back in here!!

Back in Tere and Art’s bedroom we see the two of them making up the bed.  (Sweet.)  She tries to persuade him to sell their Luna Turquesa shares to Martin which would allow them to at least buy a modest and comfortable home.  Art says nothing doin’.  He’s going to wait for the condos to be finished and sold off.  She offers to go to Cancun and sell them herself.  There won’t be a one left!  He reminds her they have too much work at the office and then they have Luisa’s wedding to prepare for.  Arturo asks her to remember that he told her she’d know how to wait and have patience.  Suddenly she has a flashback to Mariano begging her to remain with him and getting upset that she would give up their happiness and The Dream to go off with Arturo all because she was too impatient to wait for things to take their course.

Mariano comes to his father’s house for breakfast and Ramon gives him the 411 on Tere and Art. Are you here really to see me or to see Teresa?  Mar tells him he just found out himself and he knows he always comes by to spend time with him.  Anyway, Teresa is out of the picture from now on.  Ramon says he’s heard that so many times he doesn’t believe him.  Mar says he thinks that it’s better for Ramon to move in with him now that Tere’s back so he wouldn’t have to run into her.

Since there’s no gas to heat more hot water, Tere and Art are off to her mama’s for breakfast and her bath.  Aurora’s come by Refu’s to take her blood pressure and finds out Tere’s back in the vecindad.

Ramon refuses to leave on Teresa’s account or for any other reason.  Be a man and simply avoid her.  Anyway, when he reconciles with Aeeeeda he’ll need his space.  Mar informs his Pop that he’s done with her also.  Neither one is important to him any longer.  Ramon says bull-hockey!  One way or another he and Teresa are going to find a way to see each other.  It’s just destined to be.  What he doesn’t get is why her husband, knowing what there was between her and Mariano, would bring her precisely to live here again.  He suspects there’s something else at play here but doesn’t know what.

Speaking of which, while they’re all waiting on breakfast, Art tells Aurora that their living arrangements are only temporary.  Aurora also learns that Luisa and Fernando will be living in the mansion once they’re married.  Teresa finds out from Art that although the auto insurance paid off for the theft, he’s going to be using the money to help pay off his debts rather than buying her another car.  They’ll have to share his.  (Ehhh.  It’s a BMW.  I feel her pain—not!)  Tere is not a happy…er…campasino, shall we say.

Outside, Juana runs into Buttberto and they do a little more verbal sparring till he plays his bluff and tells her if she doesn’t marry him like she should then he’ll marry the rich woman he’s working for.  (If Juana actually believes that cock-n-bull and breaks it off with Hector the Director, then she deserves what she gets!  I’ll wash my hands of her just like Tere will!)

Back at the Chavez’s, Army tells Art that he’s worried Tere will undoubtedly run into Mariano while they’re living here.  Art says he trusts she and Mariano will know their place.  They’ll just have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, Luisa tells Nando that it really irked her seeing Tere back in that horrible neighborhood and tiny hovel again.  He asks her to try convincing Art to take over their apartment and get the heck out of that roach motel!  Odiana comes in and says she can’t find Art.  Where’s he gone to live?  Lu tells her that he’s decided to move to Teresa’s old neighborhood.

Speaking of Art, he’s on his way to work when Johnny runs into him outside the building.  He mentions that he never got word from the owner that he was moving in.

Oriana gets into her limo.  She’s shocked that Buttberto’s finally being more formal and speaking properly.

Art tries explaining his deal to help Chona out with her debts by renting the apartment from her for three months since he thought Teresa would appreciate being close to her family and friends.  No, he didn’t think to speak to the owner, but what counts is that the rent’s getting paid on time, right? Art asks him not to tell anybody about what he’s just told him, especially Teresa cuz he wouldn’t want to upset her any more.  Without waiting for an answer he takes off and leaves Johnny literally scratching in the dust…..

Orca-iana arrives at Aeeeeda’s and gives her to 411 on Teresa and Art’s new living arrangements.  Aeeeda and she share a major b!tching laugh together.

Tere gets dressed in her old room, like old times with Aurora there to chat about whatever.  Aurora tells her it shouldn’t matter that she’s back there for a while.  It never bothered her that Tere lived in the ‘hood.  She’s come to doubt Teresa’s friendship for her, though.  Tere objects and says she’s tried to reach her numerous times to give her emotional support now that she knows Marty and she broke up for good.  How’d it happen, anyway?  Why?  Aurora says Marty broke up with her because, as he told her, she’d only dated him to forget Mariano.  True enough.  Tere can’t believe it.  “—Get serious!  He’s never been attracted to you and he never will be!”  “—Don’t be so sure, Teresa!”  Aurora proceeds to give her BFF the highlights of The Big Kiss she and Mariano shared and how Marty saw it live and in person.   Will the bad news ever stop?????

La Pola - August 22, 2011 - Discussion Page

Sámano spits in Gaspar’s face and calls him a traitor and promises him death by firing squad. Leandro enters the room and tells Sámano that Francisco and María Teresa are his parents. That saves them and gives Francisco the opportunity to butt in and tell Sámano that Gaspar’s life is worth more since he is so rich and can make a significant contribution to Spain’s war effort.

Pola rallies the women to follow the soldiers and make themselves useful by providing food, mending clothing and cheering them on. Nariño tries to stop her by having the rope to a “taribo” over a river cut so that the women cannot cross. Resourcesful Pola jumps in the raging river and rigs up another taribo and the women cross into the battle zone.

Alejo makes his escape from Popayan and joins Nariño’s forces bringing with him a local leader and his small band of troops. He catches up with Pola, but she plays hard to get.

Nariño expects that they will meet Sámano’s forces just outside Popayan. The troops make ready for battle.

La Fuerza del Destino #14 Mon 08/22/11 Psssst! Have You Heard About David’s Little Problem?

Alternate Title: Maripaz Can’t Get No Satisfaction

Ivan and Camilo reignite their bromance and remember all the good times they had together as kids and teens. Ivan invites him out to dinner to catch up. The front desk girl brings Ivan the phone saying it’s Maripaz on the other line. He brushes off her call to head out with Camilo.

Outside of the hotel, Ivan asks Camilo about his ex-wife. She was a waitress in the same place as Carmen and that’s how they met. She was a cute, fun girl; they fell in love and married. They were happy until he lost his job (chamba) and then the fights started and she asked for a divorce. Ivan questions if they were really in love, since love means you stick with each other for better or for worse. Camilo reminds him of the saying (come dice el dicho), when hunger enters through the door, love flies out the window. At least they didn’t have kids. This gets Ivan thinking about his missing child and he tells the whole story of Maripaz’s pregnancy to Camilo for the first time. He did mention it in a letter to Camilo, but we know what happened to that.

At Casa Meandragon, Maripaz is busting David’s non-existent balls about getting her a new car. He’ll let her use his car which is only a year old, and he’ll use hers. Once this deal with the McGuires gets underway, he’s sure the family will have enough money to get her a new car. Maripaz is impressed that the McGuires are that loaded. She pumps David for more information about their wealth, Ivan (who David thinks is a good guy), and their reasons for coming to Sonora. Because Sonora has promise (posibilidades). Maripaz has heard all she needs to hear, now she wants to go out clubbing (antro).

At dinner, Ivan catches Camilo up on his life and Tony’s connection to Sonora. The business proposition is real and Ivan and Tony have a real interest in investing in the region. But Ivan’s main reasons for coming back are to prove that Juan Jaime Meandragon knocked up and abandoned his mom for a second time, and to find out what happened to his son. Camilo wants to know if he intends to kill JJ if he proves his theory correct. Ivan admits the hatred he’s felt for JJ all these years, and for Lucrezia. But he doesn’t intend to kill anyone. He just wants JJ to admit what he did and beg for forgiveness on his knees at his mother’s grave. Camilo doesn’t think that, or getting to the truth about his baby with Maripaz, will be so easy, considering how much work the Curiel-Lomelis have put into hiding that event. Ivan’s determined to find a way.

Over dinner, Carlota and Lucia discuss Ivan. Lucia wonders if Ivan will look up Maripaz, and says how surprised he was to hear Maripaz had tied the knot with David. Since nobody seems to have any problem spreading David’s business around, Carlota informs Lucia that Maripaz may be David’s wife, but she’s not his woman. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.

Camilo’s also spilling the gossip, but about Maripaz’s party girl ways, and Lucia’s hardworking, good girl ways. Seems Camilo already spread the gossip about David being a twinkle toes, because Ivan wonders how in the heck he and Maripaz ended up married. And Lucia’s dating that imbecile Saul. Camilo’s sure both matches are due to their mother, who wants the money and prestige of the Meandragons. Engineer Gerry jumped the Curiel-Lomeli ship long ago, married, became a widower, and returned to town with his blind sister-in-law and son, and started a construction business. The BFFs head into the Galvan house.

Carlota can’t drop the subject of David’s impotence. It’s all JJ’s fault for taunting his son his whole life, but Maripaz isn’t being very understanding and thinks he’s a homosexual. As a psychologist, Lucia knows that kind of treatment by a parent can cause impotence. Carlota wants her to use her psychology skills to help David, but Lucia points out that 1) she’s a CHILD psychologist, and 2) it’s not really a subject that a brother-in-law would want to talk about with a sister-in-law. She could recommend someone that can help him.

In da club, Maripaz and Judith boogie, while David looks like he has an explosive migraine from the table. As if his night couldn’t get worse, Antolin slimes up and wonders why he’s not dancing with his “mujer.” He wants the gossip about the gringos too. It’s too loud to hear, and David is too annoyed to answer. His annoyance grows when his wife stumbles over demanding more liquor, and starts flirting with some guys in the rear of the club.

Celia and Carmen gossip about Ivan’s return over some late night coffee. In walks the man, the legend, himself, and he is greeted with warms hugs and kisses. Ivan admires the beautiful young woman Carmen has turned into. They all sit down at the table to happily reminisce about old times.

Sober David, tipsy Judith, and drunk off her stilettos Maripaz return to Casa Meandragon. David tries in vain to shush Maripaz and carry her to their room. She makes fun of his inability to do ANYTHING. He can’t even dance with his two left feet. (David has married the female version of his father.) Once in their bedroom, she insults him some more and passes out on the bed.

Ivan wishes the Galvan’s good night. At the gate he offers Camilo a job with his company as an agronomist (tecnica agricola). It’s not a favor. They need skilled people they can trust working for them. They’ll meet tomorrow morning in the hotel and then head out to see the packing plant JJ wants them to buy. Inside, Carmen marvels that Ivan is still the same good guy, despite being rich now. Celia is sure his mom is looking down and proud of him. Camilo brings the happy news of the new job. They are sure his luck is now changing.

The next morning, he shows up bright and early to meet with Ivan and Tony. Tony’s not bothered that Ivan hired him without consulting him. He trusts Ivan’s judgment. They head out to the plant.

At the school, Lucia works with a student and remembers when Ivan broke her heart when she found out he and her big sis were novios. Her student brings her back to the present.

At the Meandragon ranch, the gang’s all there- JJ, his two legit sons, Ivan, Tony, and Camilo. The packing plant is in bad shape, and it’s right on JJ’s land. Ivan thinks the plant they use should be on more neutral ground, where all the planters/ranchers have equal access. JJ doesn’t give a damn about fairness and doesn’t care to hear David’s suggestions. Tony defends his sons judgment and he, Ivan and Camilo leave. JJ is livid. Why in the heck didn’t his two idiot sons say something? David tries once again to make his suggestion, but JJ shoots him down before two words have left his mouth and starts in on Saul. Good for nothings! (Buenos para nada.) Saul then gives David a hard time about not having his truck to drive them back.

Ivan asks Camilo to do a study on the state of the local packing plants. Once in town, Tony informs Ivan that he wants to look for a rental house for the two of them, and a car for himself. Camilo takes him to the real estate agency, and Ivan heads back to the hotel, where Maripaz is laying in wait. The front desk gives him a work package and tells him he got a call from Señorita Lomeli. “Maripaz?” Nope, Lucia. Ivan looks a bit disappointed, but doesn’t have long to wait to see the Señorita Lomeli he was hoping for. He turns around to the sudden sound of Maripaz calling his name. She looks at him with big, sad eyes and says, “I missed you so much. We have so many things to talk about.” Ivan is impactado. “Aren’t you happy to see me?” Ivan claims he is. Maripaz continues her sad act and then asks to go to his room with him, since they have so much to “talk” about. Note: The dress she is wearing is short, low cut, backless, and sparkly. It’s morning time. She also asks to have a beer as soon as she’s in the room. Did I mention, it’s morning? Ivan reminds her that it’s a bit too early to start drinking. She remembers her good girl act.

Ivan sadly remembers how she treated him and how they parted. She blames it all on her mother, being young, and being scared. But she NEVER forgot him or stopped loving him. Ivan can’t believe she would have treated him that way, left him without his child, or married David if she was SO in love with him to this day. He (rightly) guesses that she’s giving him this story because he’s now rich. She gets teary and denies it. Her marriage with David is just for convenience, to get out of her mother’s house where everyone just made fun of her because she didn’t continue with school. They called her ignorant and aimless (vago). She turns on the waterworks about how hard it was those months as their child grew inside her. “Then you didn’t have an abortion?” “No. Our child was born DEAD.” Ivan is destroyed by this news.

At the school, Saul comes to harass Lucia during recess about spending time with him. She agrees to meet him for dinner after school is out.

In the hotel room, Maripaz continues her sob story. She only became a party girl (clubs and drinking) to forget the pain of losing their baby. She then got a bad reputation as a wild party girl, and David had a reputation as being gay, so they married to stop the wagging tongues. But there’s nothing between them—they live like brother and sister. Ivan looks like he’s buying this. He asks where they buried the baby. Maripaz claims she doesn’t know as there were complications from the birth, she was also crazy with grief, and they kept her in the hospital for a while. Her parents buried the baby during that time and didn’t tell her where, since she was in so much pain over losing him and their baby. But now he’s back, and they have a right to be happy together. They hug, she goes in for the kiss, and then comes right out and asks him to make love to her! Ivan doesn’t say anything, but he also doesn’t resist when she takes him by the hand and leads him to the bedroom. They look like two unsure teenagers going all the way for the first time. Ivan decides to go with the flow.

Esther and Lucrezia continue gossiping about their two grown kids. Esther is not pleased with Maripaz’s partying ways and wants her mama to talk to her. But Lucrezia thinks the fact that David can’t get it up is a bigger problem. Touché.

Ivan and Maripaz continue to make up for lost time. Off come the clothes, and then they are naked under the sheets. Just as things are really cooking, Ivan pulls away. (That’s twice in one week that Maripaz has been left high and not so dry.) Ivan thinks they are moving too fast. “But if we both want to, what’s the problem?” Ivan says it will have to be another time and bolts out of the bedroom. Maripaz tries the understanding approach (guess David isn’t rich enough to get this approach) and agrees with Ivan. But she looks majorly disappointed.

The suegras continue to gossip about David’s little problem. (Jeez Luise!) Esther thinks that as a wife, Maripaz should want to help him through this problem. She begs Lucrezia to speak to Maripaz. It seems she’s not a total idiot, so she dangles a threat Lucrezia will understand. If Lucrezia wants in on the deal with the gringos, and the chance to make lots of money, she’ll see to it that the marriage between their kids, and the ties between their two families, stay strong, with no scandals.

Lucia says goodbye to her students and calls up Ivan, who is still trying to process the story of his son being dead. Lucia apologizes for being rude to him at the restaurant. She was just being an idiot when she pretended not to know him at first. Ivan’s over it. He still has the same affection (cariño) for her as he always did. She barely avoids saying she feels the same, and says farewell instead. They both have huge smiles on their faces after hanging up. Tony and Camilo return victorious from finding a rental house. It’s big enough to also serve as office space. The only drawback is it’s near the Curiel-Lomeli house. Ivan has no problem with that. Camilo sees that something is up with Ivan. Ivan promises to tell him later.

In a restaurant, Saul checks out a young woman at a neighboring table until her boyfriend/husband arrives. He then scolds Lucia for being late when she runs in, and yells LOUDLY for the waitress. He criticizes the service and blames Lucia since she chose this restaurant as it’s near her university. He then goes right into whining about his problems—his dad, the McGuires, etc. Lucia wants to know why he has to take his frustrations out on her. “I have to take it out on someone!” (Con alguien me toque que desquitar.) This is the last straw for Lucia. She informs him that she’s not his mother, who takes that kind of crap from his dad. He’s a LOT like his dad and has the same defects. When the waitress arrives, he rudely and LOUDLY orders for himself and Lucia, and then criticizes what Lucia orders to drink as being too country/unsophisticated (she ordered agua de horchata). Saul’s criticism moves to Ivan, whom Saul thinks is gay because he won’t go out drinking, partying, or picking up women with him. Lucia has had enough. She says she wants them to take a break. Apparently, NO ONE breaks up with Saul Mondragon, and he tells Lucia so. She’s not listening anymore, takes her things, and hightails it out of the restaurant.

At Casa Curiel, Carlota and Lucrezia continue to gossip about David’s problem (give it a rest people!), and Esther’s request. Carlota suggests Lucia can help him. In the meantime, Maripaz needs to play the good wife and help David out. Speaking of the King of Rome (el Rey de Roma), in slinks Maripaz for a much needed meal. She brags about David giving her his car. Lucrezia thinks that’s great. What a gentleman!

JJ doesn’t share the same opinion, and rubs it in David’s face that the car is HIS (JJ’s) at the family dinner table. Esther suggests that he actually, you know, PAY David for his work so that he can buy a car (and other things) for himself and his wife. JJ doesn’t agree. He criticizes Tony for not being a real man because he puts too much trust in his son and lets him make decisions.

At the hotel, both Camilo and Tony warn Ivan about trusting Maripaz too much. Camilo knows she’s no angel (blanca paloma/white dove). Tony thinks Ivan should push to find out where his son is buried.

In Casa Curiel, Maripaz lies that she just casually ran into Ivan on the street, and that she did what was asked and told him the baby died at birth. Carlota is horrified.

At the university, Ivan shows Tony around his old school and they run into Lucia. Tony comments on how beautiful Lucia is, and Ivan seems to really agree.

Carlotta is still upset about the lie they told Ivan about the baby being born dead. It’s cruel. She’s going to tell Ivan the truth! The volume rises, and so does Lucrezia from her chair. The truth would cost them the investment from the McGuires. If Carlota opens her mouth, then Lucrezia is going to tell them that Carlota is a crazy old lady and lock her up in a nuthouse!

Tomorrow: Ivan shakes the truth about the baby out of Lucia.

Cuando Me Enamoro #89 Monday 8/22/11 Why Does This Rescue Feel So Like An Abduction?

The happy family group at Consta’s table eat breakfast with Mat and Adriana teasing Renata for her sudden motivation she claims she is always energetic but she is both excited and so nervous. Renata is all atingle to see Jero later today hoping this will be a good decision. Jero in a split screen reciprocates with hopes that they have a chance.

Tingle is hardly what Honorio feels crawling up the back of his neck when he is arrested in front of his office while the evil Blanca watches with a slimy leer as they stuff Hon in a squad car arrested for fraud at her alter ego Monique’s behest.

Kari clings to her good wife role while discussing with Padre that she isn’t going to divorce. He wants her to know he cares for her and doesn’t want her to suffer more. Just who is detained or incarcerated here.

Alfonsina talks to Doc Marina about getting the proof of the DNA so she doesn’t have to live with this unbearable uncertainty. Marina advises her to go ask Dr. Nesme in person, although they could force him with a court order, it is much better to get him to do it voluntarily. Obviously, Dr. Marina has had little experience with that sector of the medical profession that specializes in selling snake oil.

Hon calls Gonzo from jail warning him he has been arrested, Blanca was on the corner watching it happen and now Adriana, Consta and Renata are in danger.

Gonzo calls Soto to come immediately so they can go to the police station with not one word to anybody.

Iguana-eyed Antonio and cobra-eyed Fina talk strategy in a restaurant. Antonio observes that Gonzo and Regina will probably marry very quickly after the divorce. Fina confirms that they certainly are not going to let this happen. Several times he insists that Regina is not to be hurt in the process. And butter wouldn’t melt in Fina’s mouth. Who me be a danger to Regina to revenge myself? If I can detect a bit of emotion in Antonio’s unblinking eyes, it is a shred of fear that he is in WAY over his head in this alliance forged in hellfire.

Consta gets the message that Hon is in jail. Adriana immediately knows Blanca is behind this. She wants to go to the station too but Consta says she can’t go nor stay alonem and the maid is gone. So Adri suggests the Chema could come to be with her. As he said he would. Consta is reluctant but Adri points out this is the only other option. Consta makes the call.

At the police station Gonzo and Soto discuss the seriousness of Hon’s case. (I don’t quite get what proof from a fictitious person would get someone in the slammer this quicly but my beanie needs new aluminum foil to enhance transmissions.) Soto thinks this will take a lot of work to prove Honorio’s innocence but he adds the next victim to be arrested will be Renata.

Renata comes into the EM office with Matias so happy. They tease and laugh, she is in such a good mood which you better enjoy since it isn’t going to last the whole capitulo. Matias is alarmed to know that neither Gonzo nor Hon are in the office and there is a big meeting expected. He tells the receptionist to alert him as soon as his father arrives.

Gonzo calls Mat to tell him to come to the station and orders him not to tell Renata. They must assume Renata is next come. Augie comes into the already busy police station saying he came as soon as he could. Gonzo thanks him for coming so quickly to help him with this problem.

Chema comes quickly to help Consta with her problem to take care of Adri. Adri knows her father is innocent but is so afraid. Chema is patient and sympathetic even if a bit disappointed at first.

Augie will do anything to get Renata away and he would give his life for her. Gonzo trusts him for this reason asking for his complete discretion.

Renata has the wiggles and cannot concentrate on her work. She starts to call Jero but tells her self to concentrate.

At the Jewelry store Regina and Jero look at two R necklaces. Which one would she prefer he asks. She will prefer this demonstration that she can regain confidence and trust in you. Jero remembers that Rafa had an R necklace in his things. Regina remembers that Roberto gave her and her daughter R’s necklaces and Jero remembers that Gonzo says Gonzo gave R’s to Renata and Roberta too. What a strange a coincidence thinks Regina. Jero smiles more than we have ever seen, He adores Renata. She is the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

The secretary comes in with coffee telling Renata it is 2:30, she rushes off after checking with the secretary on how does she looks. (Beautiful as usual but still dressed like a college freshman for some unfathomable reason.)

Back at his apartment Jero comes in with 60 roses and bags of great looking food, Cheese and lettuce and many candles and important looking wine. What a nice set up and then he drapes the R necklaces in various places.

Gonzo drives into the EM garage in a black Jaguar S type (my all time favorite car, mine was silver, hmmm, but I digress). He hysterically urges Renata to get in the car with him without asking questions. She has to disappear because they already have arrested Honorio because of Blanca’s plots and she is in danger of being thrown in jail next.

She balks insisting she has a date that she doesn’t want and can’t fail to show up. He says she isn’t listening this is not negotiable. She has to get to safety and no one can know where she is. Her destiny is being changed at this moment. He demands she give him her cell phone it may be traced.

Jero adjusts his tie, the candles, the food, paces, puts on his jacket, the R’s are in the shape of a heart. He mutters to himself. (This makes me sad to watch.) He says, after this dinner you won’t be able to leave my side. She has to be convinced to come back.

Renata is saying to hyper-Papa, before you change my destiny loan me your cell phone. Yes your destiny is being changed and it can’t be helped. No I can’t, you could be traced and we can’t risk it.

Consta comes in to ask Soto when can she see Hon he thinks she can get in for at least 5 minutes. Mati arrives saying, but where is my father. Soto says, he is off taking care of another problem related to this same matter. Con and Mat console hug. Mat gives the obvious explanation: Blanca is completely crazy (BSC to you texters and tweeters)

Adri is worried about not being able to get through to Renata. Chema reasons that she has had to turn it off in the Station. But it has been so long worries Adri.

Chema says, I know I‘ll make a great dessert and it will make it all better but not with that face. The worried Adri breaks into a smile, He says really he isn’t trying to trivialize the danger her father is in. But the angst you are having won’t do anything to help your recuperation. Then she says, it’s a deal if you will teach me how to make the dessert I don’t know how to cook well. He hefts Adri over his shoulder to carry her to the kitchen. We hope not breaking anything more

Jero paces and calls Renata’s cell. He hopes she hasn’t had second thoughts. Finally Jero calls Renata’s office to learn that she left hours ago and didn’t give any clue of where she was going. Jero drinks more wine and jumps to get the door for any bell in the hall way that goes off. He says tranquilo a whole bunch and counsels himself not to think the worst. (Yes Jero suit club, he is in that navy blue with the baby blue tie, its’s our only consolation at the moment.)

Cata is drinking coffee with Inez and thanks for her asking her to come to eat. Inez tells her she can come live there. She is pleased for the thoughtful invitation but she declines and Inez says but you are like part of the family. She thinks she will be better in that place for senior citizens. You are saying that because of Regina, right? Yes, Cata cries. Inez says, why don’t you try to understand Regina? Cata says, she does understand her but she cannot support what she has chosen to do. She thought she would be a great lady but she (Regina) is choosing differently and she (Cata) cannot compromise her feelings. (This woman doesn’t need a skilled nursing facility but she does need to have her head examined.)

Regina at her dressing table in golden light has a flash back of Roberto presenting the R for his princess, baby Regina on her birthday and then giving Regina one too with his love. They hug and all is happy. Back at the present a wistful Regina says, here’s another coincidence, Gonzolo

Renata and Gonzo drive into an airplane hangar and he explains that she has to be hidden while they get the Blanca problem worked on. Augie comes out of the plane with such a swagger. She can’t figure out whey she should flee when she has done nothing wrong. Augie assures them both, he has everything under control . Renata looks like she is being controlled.

Roberta walks into the hotel to find out Augustin has checked out of the hotel several hours ago and paid his bill. She leaves him an irritated message that she isn’t some Selene that he can treat this way without at least advising her that he was leaving. She finishes with her famous, Stupido.

Gonzo assures Renata of his love and continues to insist that he has to protect her and is sorry this has to be done this way. She will miss him, she says as she climbs the plane stairs like she is walking the plank at sea. She asks that he be in contact with Augie to bring her news of the outcome of the case and of the family and please will he tell Consta she is sorry she isn’t with her and Hon etc. that she is okay. He agrees of course.

Back to the Baja jail, Nesme comes in to the visiting room and greets Alfonsina slimily, I knew you couldn’t live without me. If you come for a conjugal visit we could both enjoy it so much. She pushes his slimy hand off her knee saying, don’t touch me you make me sick. Then why did you come? I want to ask you to take a DNA test. He says, you just want to know if I am the father of the baby. But of course I am. I don’t need to prove anything but if you will come for a conjugal visit I will give you the DNA test. That is the exchange; nothing is for free. She is so slimed and disgusted she leaves saying she never wants to have to see him again. (So much for Marina’s brilliant ideas. We could have predicted that one. )

Matilde asks Kari why don’t you want to (or does she say, why don’t you love him.) She holds to her misery as church sanctioned and Matilde (and I) don’t understand it or agree with it. Lazaro looks on through the door crack. She has been miserable for years but if she goes off to enjoy herself now it will have made her years of miserable marriage a lie. She will stay in this any way until death do us part.

Marina comes up to Ponchito at an outdoor table and asks how is it going, are you happy? He says not really happy. They don’t talk to each other. When one is in the room and then the other comes in someone leaves. Marina tries to tell him that perhaps he knows that when you do something that you don’t want to just for someone else it doesn’t work the way you hoped. Maybe it would be better to let the parents be themselves, apart but more at peace. He hopes with the new baby coming it will all be like the happy family life he misses. Marina’s expression says she realizes she isn’t the best psychologist ever.

Ezekiel and Lazaro rush in to Carlos in the office to announce that there is a possible plague. The plants are pale over at Augie’s and it could possibly be from over watering but if it is plague on the vines there is a big disaster coming. That is why Ezek came to tell Carlos himself. Carlos wants Alfonsina so they can test all of La Bonita’s vines.

Jero comes to Consta’s door and greets Chema who recognizes him as Renata’s husband. He calls for Adri. She glides in in her wheelchair and agrees we can’t get in touch with Renata either but probably she is with everybody else at the station. At his confusion she recognizes, Oh you don’t know, Honorio was arrested.

Augie cajoles Renata who is deep in thought on the plane. They discuss why she had to flee the scene and possible arrest. He says, I know it all looks black. She finally tells know I’m not talking about my father, but about Jero we had a meeting to reconcile and she feels so bad. He jumps on that. She will commit the same error as ever to believe in Jero. More urbane than Nesme, Augie warms to his task. He is sure that Jero has planned her destiny, a future where she has no opinion or options. (Oh really.)

Consta and Hon grip hands through the jail cell bars. Hon wants her to promise that she and Adri won’t come to the jail to see him. He imagines that Adriana is so disappointed by him. Consta expresses with many tears that it was all a trap and he is innocent. She cries, he kisses, they cling to each other. (Chema is toast.)

Chem and Adri have fun watching bad women in a movie and talk about the really bad women she knows who are worse, Fina and Roberta. He agrees that he is sure that Fina or Roberta took pictures of him with Consta and sent them to Honorio. They discuss if someone has been plotting to cause all the couple problems including making Chema and Consta seem to be an item.

Alfonsina gets back and Carlos briefs her on the plague threat. She says it is very hard to identify it early but she will do everything she can. She goes off to check the vineyard.

Jero show up at he station and Gonzo and Matias jump him. (Well almost.) He must ta;k with Renata, she didn’t show up for their date. Gonzo dourly assures him, she isn’t in the city she has gone off to think, contemplate her options and feelings, etc. and you are not to get in touch with her.

The scene ends at the Augie palace. Renata walks in looking like a forced march and Augie welcomes her to the hacienda again. She doesn’t look pleased.

Next episode: The plot sickens to keep Renata and Jero from seeing if they could reconcile. Augie has found allies in Gonzo and Matias. Not so sure are Regina and Jero. The teams are being chosen. Ezekiel grins that Augie will make Renata his woman soon. The divorce express papers arrive at Jero’s door.

La Pola - August 15-19, 2011 - The Squeeze and TheTease, Discussion Page

By force of will, good luck, and excellent strategy, Santa Fé emerges victorious in its fight against the army lead by Baraya who is unceremoniously ousted and humiliated.

Nariño doubles his efforts to unite the province and its former leaders, including the deserter José María Carbonel. He welcomes an astounded Don Jorge Tadeo and Sabio Caldas into the new government. Nariño will not yield his belief in federalism. After a debate on that point with José María Torres, he wins the support of the Congress. Those who believed they would be executed, lose their property or be expelled from the country now find themselves drawn into the new government. The Congress declares independence from Spain. The people of Santa Fé have gathered in the square and react with predictable elation at the news.

Domingo is in that crowd. He went to Santa Fé to fight, taking an unwilling Ciro and a chained Juliano with him. In a blind rage he gave away his property and left Gertrudis and Cata nothing. Cata falls ill from a mysterious ailment. Gertrudis asks for an exorcism.

Juliano will not be allowed in battle chained to a “mora”. Nariño announces that all slaves who volunteer to fight against the Spanish will be freed. Unfortunately, the brilliant strategist, Col. Bayly, is is a victim of this announcement when he is killed by one of his own slaves who thought he should be freed immediately.

Pola and Alejo have several bittersweet encounters. Alejo has been completely converted and is now a loyal Nariño follower. With a new government and new laws, Pola and Alejo are free and agree to be married quickly. But, Nariño orders Alejo to go to Popayan to advise that government not to sacrifice its army and people in a fight against Sámano and the army of Spain. Alejo finally tells Pola that he must leave in the morning to complete this new mission. They bestow a few minutes of unfettered passion upon us, but when Alejo says he will go find a priest right now (think marriage/sex), Pola’s feelings are hurt and she leaves Alejo in a fit of frustration.

Alejo and Arcos enter Popayan dressed as monks. Don Gaspar agrees with Alejo. Francisco says he hopes Alejo dies in battle. Gaspar finally tells Francisco that it is time for him to leave the mansion. Gaspar also tells Eusebia that any further engagement between Alejo and Ignacia (who is soon to take final vows) is out of the question. Alejo reminds her that he is engaged to marry another.

Alejo, María Teresa and Doña Eusebia visit María Ignacia. She is godly and penitent. She has forgiven everyone, including Alejo and Pola, for whom she prays.

Dinner at the mansion that night is interrupted by the entrance of Sámano and his troops who have come to search for rebel soldiers. Alejo hides in a storage room and is wounded as one of the soldiers stabs his bayonet into stored property. The soldier reports to Sámano that he has found nothing. But, blood is visible on the tip of his bayonet. Question of the week: Will Sámano, or anyone, see the blood?
