Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 10 (Apr 25, 2016)

--The Ring Cycle.
Will Marissa crack the lying, two-faced creep's story about The Ring? How much money does Fernanda need to earn busking to rebuild the house? Will Pedro ever get it built? Can he convince people he did not try to commit suicide? How are Carlos and Fernanda ever going to get back together again? Will Amelia make it to the Big House? What happens to the quesadilla stand?

These and other questions may be answered in the coming days--or weeks--or months.

But for now: Surprise! Cesar asked Clarita to marry him and she said yes.

Pasión y Poder Capitulo #131 Friday, April 22nd 2016 While the rich folks grieve, the poor folks ride horses and play tennis.

Assmore ambushes Daniela in the bathroom and puts his cocaine infested hand over her mouth. "Surprise, surprise" he utters [and in English, so we are reminded that he's a gringo]. Daniela struggles to free herself from the slimy Assmore's grasp, but it's no use, he has the upper hand here. Assmore utters some more English words- a "relax" and a "good girl" - and he also tells her to "breath". He eventually whips out two baggies- one full of cocaine (a white powder) and the other full of pills. He tries to force the pills down her throat, but since she's able to fight him off, he instead decides that he'll put both baggies inside her purse, and it's clear that Assmore wants her mix the pills with the cocaine. He tells her to "fly", then tells her that he wanted to say his goodbyes, and promises that he won't bug her anymore. He eventually leaves the bathroom, but not before he blows a stomach turning kiss her way. Now alone, Daniela (still startled and recovering from the attack) approaches the sink and washes the cocaine (white powder- that was left on her mouth by Assmore) from her mouth. Then she takes out her cellphone, and still startled, calls David and asks her to come and get him.

Meanwhile, Erick teaches Luly about the American Manifesto ("In Good We Trust") using a dollar bill as a prop. Luly spots Assmore as he exits the bar, and she questions Erick about what Assmore is doing there. Erick pretends he doesn't have a clue. Luly gets up from her chair and wants to go and check up on Daniela. But Erick convinces her to sit back down. Erick spots Daniela as she comes from the bathroom and lets Luly know that Daniela is coming over to them.

El Hotel de los Secretos #62, 4/22/16: "It Is Not In The Stars To Hold Our Destiny But In Ourselves." Try Telling That To The Alarcóns, Shakesy!

At a glance

-- Dr. Vicario is still keeping an eye on injured Diego.
-- Andrés may have discovered that Belén is nothing but a gold-digging ho who has been using him all this time.
-- Alfredo breaks up with Sofía and starts making plans with Beatriz.
-- Jorge frees Felipe from jail. The two kiss.
-- Ayala and Matilde discover a brand new clue.

A closer look

Teresa asks Isabel to stand by her and start acting like an Alarcón. She wants her daughter to do her part for her family: Grow up, assume her responsibilities, take care of her marriage, have kids, look out for her loved ones. These things are more important than playing detective and rummaging (hurgar) through old secrets, trying to discover Lord knows what. Teresa doesn’t like the fact that Isabel treats her like an enemy. They lock horns over Teresa’s prior knowledge of the truth about Andrés and for her attempts to impede the investigation into Rómulo’s death. In the end, Teresa tells Isabel to go ahead and look for “the truth” she is so eager to discover, but if that truth breaks her heart, she’d better not come crying to Mommy because Mommy will have no consolation for her.

Sueno de Amor, #33 Friday, 04/ 22/ 16 Questionable fathers and their offsprings: will Ernie be a better grandpa than he is a father? Will La Sombra get a Dragon gift for Father's Day?

We begin with a rehash of Ernesto and Viviana's  ugly fight - Viviana wants the divorce and half of everything, including half of the company that Ernie built with her father's money. This whole mess happens in front of their children - classic La Colina family moment!

Felix asks Margarita to meet up at night and at first she thinks it's a romantic rendez-vous, but he only wants to go ghost hunting (hey, if a girl has to settle...). Later on, they meet the certified ghost hunter (if such a thing even exists) and start roaming the school at night.

Aranza arrives for her "job" and is greeted by a lecherous looking overweight man, who looks at her with nauseating lust, approving of her big cleavage. She looks disgusted, but we don't actually find out what she's up to.

Esperanza of the Tell No Lies Family and Ric of the Incompetence in Every Job Order want to talk with PatoPedro about something very important. The teens think that since Ric's divorce is almost final, things around the house are about to change: Pato will get another new daddy and Pedro another chef to cook his vegetables (does he know that Ric only prepares pancakes?). But no, the  talk is about a big secret. He's a super secret agent, who came to Mexico to track down his arch enemy and put everyone's life in danger. Pato seems to believe this is all a joke (who can blame her?), but then they are informed about La Sombra and his activity, the way the bastard killed Ric's partner and only friend and how he has a kid in their school.

El Hotel de los Secretos #61, 4/21/16: Diego Survives But Unintentionally Gives up a Secret

Diego is back at the hotel and he is being cared for by doctor Vacairo and Matilde. Isabel, his wife who wants to become a doctor just stands there and stares. I'm scared for her future patients.

It looks like he might survive the attack which they determine was caused by a knife, the conclusion seems to be that he was another victim of the GKK, Diego is only at risk now if he gets an infection, everyone leaves and Isabel stays with her husband. Diego is running a high fever and confuses his wife with his dead father is law (who that's possible I'll never know but let's roll with it).

In his state Diego says the following:
Diego (confusing Isabel for her father): "I was surprised you haven't come by sooner to visit me, what did you come here for, to see me die? You've been waiting impatiently for my time to come, right? {In reaction to the way Isabel is looking at him} If I'm dying it's thanks to you"
Isabel: "You are not going to die, you just need to rest"
Diego: "You and I are never ever going to rest in peace, Isabel is smart and our fingerprints all over the place, she'll figure it out what I've done, but she'll finally, finally figure out what you are."- he keeps repeating that line over and over again.

Sueño de amor, Ep. #32 (4.21.2016) The case of the search of the criminal based only on a crayon drawing

Antes muerta que arrugada
Better dead than wrinkled. Its hospital time again and the turn now is for Viviana who just woke up from an express coma. Too fast for a non-believer. I guess Esperanza has ''palancas'' with her sponsor Virgen de la Paz and her circle of prayers worked. Viviana is (as Esperanza was in her moments of need) surrounded by her loved ones, including the ones who will be always around her as long as she has money.
Be careful what you wish for, she wanted to be at least 15 years younger and she is now a newborn. Talk about taking 50+ years off with a single surgery!

Pato, in a very convenient scene, heard about Ana and Ernesto's affair and immediately told Luca, who confronted Ernesto, who denied everything until proof was shown. This is unforgivable, it is scandalous (and I come from the theater). Luca thinks father and son should never share the same woman. He almost asked for his kidney back. Just when he was saying ''you're dead to me'' Adrián shows up and his jaw falls to the floor. Don't worry brother, assures Luca, there's no problem between father and I. I said ''your head is clean''

Commercial break: Lala cheese is soooo good, that even when you put it in the coldest tortilla, it melts by itself!! Yummy, and it doesn't contain polyethylene terephthalate!!

Pasión y poder, Ep. 130, Thursday, April 21, 2016: It's a dog eat dog world. ¡Qué FEA! (Franco, Erick, Ashmore)

Arturo's day is off to a rocky start

Julia, clearly shaken by Nina's visit, tells Arturo that it would be best to end "this thing" and not see each other anymore.

The Careful Courtship Proceeds

In the infirmary of the foundation, Gabriela and Agustín enjoy the supper he has prepared at home as they keep vigil over little Diego, asleep on the cot.  When the boy groans fitfully, Agustín checks on him and comforts him, assuring him he's just having bad dream.  Agustín tells Gaby the boy still has a little fever and then puts a cool washcloth on the child's forehead.  "You like playing soccer?  You'll see – you'll be out playing again very soon."

Gaby looks on with an approving smile.  "You'll make a great father."  He returns her smile, reminding her that when he has a wife, he plans to adopt five kids.  "How long before you're married?" Diego asks.  He wants to be one of those five kids.  Agustín says he doesn't know – he's waiting for the woman of his dreams.

He looks meaningfully at Gabriela, but she refuses to catch his eye.

Arturo Montenegro Cannot Believe His Ears

This thing?  [¿Esto?]  That's what Julia is calling their relationship?  He'll talk to Nina and make sure she doesn't bother Julia again.  It's not because of what Nina said, explains Julia, it's because of everything else: "Regina and David – who really love each other – can't be together because of us."

El Hotel de los Secretos #60, 4/20/16: Diego Plays Hero, But Ends Up the Victim of the GKK

Olegario gives Elisa an offer she is certainly not going to refuse—lots and lots of Harriet Tubmans, in exchange for her securing him the hotel shares of her “grandson.” He’s working on keeping Belen out of the way and securing Andres’ shares of the hotel. The reason? There’s black gold, aka OIL, underneath the hotel, and he and his gringo investors want to tear down the hotel to get at it.

Over breakfast, Ole assures Belen and Andres that he is no murderer and Ayala has no reason to suspect him. Belen has a hard time believing Felipe is a murderer either. Andres slips his leash and goes to serve himself some coffee that’s nearby, but everyone jumps in to say that’s not his place and tries to make him accept being served. He gets frustrated with all of this, and with Ole and Belen. He thought they were trying to get the baby back, but Ole seems more concerned about the inheritance/money! He leaves the table. Belen tells Ole that she agrees with Andres about getting the baby back, ASAP.

El Hotel de los Secretos #59, 4/19/16: Tuesday's Highlights

Sorry.  I waited for the episodio to come down from HULU as long as I could.  Highlights follow from other recappers kind enough to pick up my slack:

Highlights From Julie:
Olegario is a suspect in Romulo's murder, but when questioned by Ayala and Dagoberto, he transfers the suspicion onto Felipe.

- While Genaro is being buried at the cemetery, Felipe shows Jorge Genaro's secret stash of cash hidden beneath the floor at the cantina. Felipe hopes this will satisfy his ransom demand, but Jorge specifically wants money from the hotel.

Pasión y Poder Martes 4/19/16 #128

Chapter 128: Grand Gesture

Some people are incapable of doing anything small. It's not always a bad thing, but it can certainly be awkward in public.  When the whole world is watching there is no margin for error. – D.D.

Arturo and Daniela finished their conversation and he left. Nina caught the tail end of it and seemed relieved that things seemed to be improving. She hugged Daniela whose expression became more pained when she knew her mother couldn't see it. She definitely had been less than honest with her father and with herself.

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #30. Tuesday April 19, 2016. Ghost, Coma, Water Bucket Toss, Military Camouflage, Hobo Sex, Afro Wig, Father And Son Boinking The Same Gal... Sure You Can’t Squeeze Something Else In, Juabbly Juan?

Hello Patio Pals! We’ll have to make do with a quick summary until a volunteer takes over this recapping spot.

I think that maybe, just maaaybe, Juanito Osorio is getting a tad desperate here! Here’s what went down, pell-mell:

Erasmo also has a smartphone. No wonder the Gallos can’t afford milk or tomatoes!

There are no records of an Ágata having studied at the Magenta School of Arrested Development and Vindictive Ghosts, otherwise known as Instituto Palacios.

Esperanza calls Pamela María Paula Rivas Iturbe, because she rubbed her eyebrow with her pinkie and threatened to exact her revenge on Félix for confiscating her tablet. María Paula was the evil triplet from “Lazos de Amor”. Playing those triplets was arguably Lucero’s best acting performance ever, a performance I highly doubt that Angélique Boyer will even come close to emulating, in the much awaited (but not by me) “Tres Veces Ana”

Margarita is aware that Félix is a lot younger than her but that doesn’t make her a cradle robber (una asalta-cunas) either. It makes her a sabertooth cougar, as our recapper and patio regular, Pablo, likes to call her.

Viviana goes into a coma. Zero surprise here. We saw it coming a mile away.

Pasión y Poder (PyP) #127. Monday April 18, 2016. Let’s Face It, This Novela Is A Glamorized Version Of The Maury Povich Show!

At a glance

-- The cutting room floor fodder took over the whole episode. It seems to be a telenovela tradition to turn Últimos Capítulos into filler galore. Why begin lining up anvils, unravelling hidden truths and tying up loose ends when you can cram it all in the finale?
-- Arturo, PyP’s resident runteldat, runs to tell Julia that Eladio came to his office to provoke him.
-- Eladio, PyP’s resident rogón arrastrado (the crawling begging take-me-back), warns Julia against Arturo’s lies and manipulations.
-- Julia, PyP’s resident Princess Confudida, refuses to listen to anyone except the man who has manipulated her all her life, i.e. her toxic father.
-- Nina, PyP’s resident reformed villana, who never got to commit any real villainies, is flitting about the episode, distributing hugs, smiles and words of support.
-- David, PyP’s resident sisterfudger, is adamant to renounce to Regina while pining for her to anyone who would care to listen.
-- Regina, PyP’s resident love martyr, is adamant to renounce to David while pining for him to anyone who would care to listen.
-- Clara and Justino, PyP’s resident filler, are bugging everybody with their stupid wedding.

El Hotel de los Secretos #58, 4/18/16: At last, we have a winner.

Julio tells Isabel the truth about Cecilia. She helped him out when he was hiding from the police. He owes her everything. She came for him, and he's going to leave with her - but not until he helps Isabel find what she's been looking for.

"Then, I'll have no more reason to stay here... right?"

"Right," Isabel replies.

And it seems that she means it, because in the morning, she makes nice with Diego. She apologizes that this marriage hasn't been what he expected, nor has she been the wife that he expected. Diego is gracious about it, but Isabel admits that she's kept secrets from him. He admits that he's kept secrets from her too. They agree to start over.

But she's full of baloney, because when he goes into the bathroom, she transfers something (I can't see what) from under her pillow to the drawer in her night-table.

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #29. Monday April 18, 2016. I Cannot Teach Her. The Girl Has No Patience.

At a glance

-- Ricardo starts Esperanza's super agent training.

-- Kracy and Ernesto seal their alliance against Reecherd with a series of bizarre mating rituals.
-- Juabbly Juan is definitely going ahead with that ridonculous haunting storyline. ¡Que la Virgen de la Paz se apiade de nosotros! May la Virgencita de la Paz take pity on us!

A closer look

Tonight’s tumble into the Sueñolandia dump begins with a repeat of PatoLuca's reconciliation. I’m in a magnanimous mood tonight, so I’ll spare you the rehash of Friday’s gibes.

At the house of self-deluded warriors, Esperanza is still adamant to learn how to be a super agent: “It’s not gonna be easy but if an agent can be a teacher then a teacher can be an agent!” Yes... In Bizarro World! I'm starting to think they detected Esperanza’s tumor in the wrong place. Ricardo acquiesces to her wish: “It’s not the same thing using a handgun as using a chalkboard (pizarrón), but OK, I’ll teach you”. Teach her, sexy Yoda! They spend 5 minutes saying good night. Rest well. Night night. Don’t let the bedbugs bite. Sweet dreams. Sueña bonito. OK, hang up. Esperanza, I love you. Uh-huh, rest well, Ricardo.

Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 9 (Apr 18, 2016)

--Accidents do happen. People live, even when the car accident was the deliberate intention to murder both mother and child. The chauffeur was collateral damage.

The accident was provoked by a heartless sister who puts money, envy and entitlement above the sanctity of life and the happiness of her own father, whose days, he feels, are numbered.

Our beloved young heroine was wounded severely and received a blood transfusion from an elderly gentleman who matched her rare blood type. Little do either know they are related as grandfather and granddaughter and neither does Doctor Carlos, who is deeply in love with Fernanda.

Her mother, a most spiteful, acrimonious woman, has been left paralyzed from the waist down and told she will never walk again. Poetic justice? YES? Attitude reforming catastrophe? It doesn't seem so. While she used to let loose with calculated barbs and sarcasm, she tolerated her existence with a man she hated and a daughter she treated with contempt. Now she spits her venomous sentiments at her soon to be ex-husband, whom she blames for everything wrong in her life. She does this within the hearing of her fragile and recovering daughter. She curses them both to leave her alone. She never wants to see either of them again.

Is there a pit deep enough to hold this vile a human being? Will someone take pity on her? We will have to see in the coming week if anyone does.

Pasión y Poder Capitulo #126 Friday, April 15th 2016 Three couples mate, two people get slapped, and no one gets an anvil yet. What gives?

(scenes have been combined for better flow)

Daddy Issues - Everyone has them in this novela

Julia meets with her shrink, who I call Dr. Phil, for some late night therapy. Julia admits that she needs more determination with her father. She still has trouble telling [the rat bastard- my words, not hers] "no". Dr. Phil listens, then asks, if the rat bastard [again, my words, not his] is still imposing himself. Julia replies- that her father has changed for the better, but that she feels like he's still capable of manipulating her in someway. With a stern look and voice, Dr. Phil, tells Julia to not allow her father to have that power over her. Parents should give their kids the roots so they grown with strength and values [values- hmm, that's something that no one seems to have in this show] and guide them so they can fly on their own, and not pull the strings of their lives. Julia agrees with this assessment, but admits that her father still wants to decide what's best for her. And right now, her father thinks that Arturo, is what is the best for her. Dr. Phil points out that her father thought that Eladio was what was best for her 20 years ago. So what matters now is what she thinks, he tells her. Julia says that her father thinks that her Mr. Right is someone who can give her the life of a queen. Dr. Phil points out that she had that life with Eladio, but she gave up the comfort that he gave her, so now they'll have to see what happens with Arturo.

Later, Julia is still get psychoanalyzed by her shrink, and this time, she tells Dr. Phil that the relationship she had with her dad influenced how she got along with the boys. She admits that she has always looked for her father's approval and love. However, she was never able to get it. However, her father has now changed, he's gotten closer to her, and she has no doubts that he does it out of affection. Dr. Phil asks her .. "and how does that make you feel?" Julia replies that it makes her feel good. How can she reject something that she has always wanted. Dr. Phil smells a rat bastard, so he tells Julia to analyze where her father's change is coming from. Julia looks puzzled [and seriously, when doesn't she look puzzled?]. The shrink also wants for her to realize that her value is not in how others value herself, but how she loves herself. Julia admits that it's hard for her to see things in that manner, because she has always looked for the approval of others. The shrink tells her that until she finds that love for herself, she'll never be able to find happiness, with Arturo, Eladio, or anyone else for that matter. Julia listens carefully and takes all that in.
