Acorralada - Lucky #13 - 1/31/07

We start our episode today with Gaby nervously talking a mile a minute to Max, not letting her sister Diana get a word in edgewise. You see, Gaby is volunteering Diana to nurse Max's wife, Marfil, back to health. Diana is not particularly thrilled, as she is in love with Max and would rather eat glass than provide therapy to "Marfil" (who is actually the evil twin Debora). The real Marfil is still in a coma after being shot by her crazy ex Gerardo. To help keep them straight, I will refer to Deborah impersonating Marfil as "M/D." Max (who also loves Diana) ***Take a number, Max. I think every guy on this show is after her*** is asking Diana if she is or is not going to return to work caring for Dona Santa (Max's grandma) plus M/D. Diana finally says yes and thought bubbles "What has Gaby gotten me into?"

It is now the next morning and Gaby and Diana are on their way to report to work at the Irazabal mansion. Gaby asks if Diana is going to continue not speaking to her. Diana says she's mad because she didn't want to return to Psycho Mansion, but "you decided for me."

Out struts Octavia from a limo in some black get-up that is slit down to her navel. As she walks through the gate to her office, Fedora/Gaviota (who I will refer to as F/G) steps in front of her and blocks the way. F/G sarcastically state "How good to see you again, Octavia Irazabal." Octavia is impactada.

Bruna and Max are in the bedroom with the "invalid" M/D. M/D has apparently just woken up after a 2-year coma. Max asks M/D how she slept the night before. M/D whines on and on about show confused she is and when can they sleep together. Blah, blah, blah. ***Bruna is supposedly a servent, but I've yet to see her serve. All she does is lurk about and plot with M/D about how M/D can get Max to fall in love with her again, making her and Debora rich. Apparently she has some deep secret that Marfil and Debora know nothing about. My guess is she may be their real mother, but I digress*** Lala, the housekeeper interrupts the cozy scene to announce Diana's arrival. M/D asks Max how he found a nurse so quickly. Max states the doctor recommended physical therapy for her - the sooner the better - and what better person to help her along but the lovely, naive Diana. M/D wants to begin walking asap so she can get her hooks back into Max. M/D is laying it on pretty thick and heavy to dopey Max - how much she wants to get well and be with Max, how he must be tired of having an invalid wife, how she wants to make up for all the time they've lost, and how it would kill her if Max fell for another woman. In walks Diana. . .Max looks all dreamy, Bruna simply says "Tu?" and M/D looks disgusted.

Larry (Octavia's son) is in a bathing suit getting out of the pool. It's easy to understand how he won the "Mr. Playa del Sol" competition. Up walks Gaby all smiles, braids and thick glasses. Gaby is in love with Larry. Gaby asks if she can get Larry breakfast. "No" he says, but you can rub suntan lotion on my back. Gaby's jaw drops to the ground and she gets all jittery.

Back to the showdown between F/G and Octave. O-"what are you doing here?" F/G-"you don't own the street. You and your family are going down after what you did to me." F/G asks O if she's nervous or afraid. O replies "you know I'm not afraid of you. We have no unfinished business. "Au contraire" states F/G. They continue throwing insults back and forth and call each other "trash." ***Them's fightin' words!" O threatens to send F/G back to jail. F/G states "I was set up, and by the way, where are my kids." O says they are dead. F/G-"I don't believe you. That's a lie." O walks off and F/G keeps repeating "liar, liar, liar!" F/G then thought bubbles "It HAS to be a lie!"

The confrontation between Bruna and Diana continues in M/D's bedroom. Bruna asks "what are you doing here? You were thrown out of the house." "Uh, no" says Max. Bruna asks "of all the nurses in the city, why her?" Because I love her, replies Max......Just kidding. Max does go on and on about what a wonderful nurse Diana is, however. Bruna starts to argue with him, but Max snaps back, "who the heck do you think YOU are to tell me what to do!" This is apparently a lesson that Bruna never seems to learn. M/D asks Bruna, "who's the girl?" Max jumps in to explain Diana is caring for Grandma (AKA Dona Santa). "Do you remember Grandma? If she's good enough for Grandma, she's good enough for you. Have you got a problem with that?" ***I'm not even going to comment on this exchange. That could be whole other blog.***M/D says "of course not, my love. Diana and I are going to be best friends!"

Larry is still in his swimsuit. He asks Gaby why she is just standing there and not saying anything. He again asks me (I mean her) to rub lotion on his back. Gaby, being flustered as always, ends up squirting half the bottle in her hands. As she's rubbing the lotion on, Larry comments on how soft her hands are for a servant. "I could swear you are caressing me." At that line, Gaby runs for the house and leaves about three inches of streaky lotion across his back. ***This should make for an interesting photo shoot.*** Back in the kitchen, Gaby is fanning herself. She can't believe she actually got to touch Larry; "I can still feel his skin on my hands; it's as if the world opened up at my feet."

Gaby is still in fantasyland when Lala walks in saying she can't believe the family hid the fact that Marfil was alive for two years. She finally snaps Gaby back to reality. Gaby runs to her room and starts another of her many letters professing her undying love to Larry.

Larry's fiance (I don't have the time to look up if there should be one or two "e's" in fiance) Pilar is at the gym talking to two friends. She basically says she doesn't want to marry Larry. Her friends ask what she's been smoking. "The guy is a hottie and also rich!" "I don't care" says Pilar, "my family is also rich." Her friend Sandy thinks Pilar is making a big mistake and she and Pilar get in a fight. After Pilar storms off, Sandy tell the other friend she's going to tell Larry everything.

O is at her office drinking a cup of something. I doubt it's chamomile tea. Anyway, she ends up dropping the cup and it shatters. She is obviously thinking about her f-2-f with F/G. Emilio (the brother of Max's girlfriend Camila) runs in to O's office to see if she is OK. O is thoroughly rude to him saying everything is fine, and don't let the door hit you on the rear on your way out. O then tells herself she can't believe F/G came to her.

Max calls Camila at the beach and says "we've got to talk." Camila asks him what's up with the serious tone of voice. He says "We'll talk later" and hangs up on her. Max thinks to himself he's got to tell Camila that M/D is alive and break up with her. Camila is simultaneously thinking Max is going to dump her because he (Max) found out that Camila abandoned a baby she had with Dr. Evil five years prior.

Bruna and M/D are alone in the bedroom and M/D is standing up. The two are fighting about why M/D agreed to have Diana as her nurse. "Are you stupid?" asks Bruna. M/D yells back asking "What the heck was I supposed to do under the circumstances. And oh, by the way, who are YOU to call ME stupid!" M/D puts Bruna back in her place and Bruna runs out.

Diana is walking down the stairs when Bruna confronts her about being back at Psycho Mansion. They start to argue and Bruna pushes Diana down the stairs.

Sylvia, Camila's cousin and roommate has Cher's wig on. She is walking three unruly but hysterical dogs. Camila is not happy about the dogs being in the apartment and tells Sylvia she is getting crazier each day. Sylvia is walking the dogs to earn extra money, presumably to buy more wigs. They are squabbling when the doorbell rings. In walks Paola, Larry and Max's sister. "What are you doing here?" ask Camila. "I've come to console you." answers Peyote. C - "About what?" P - "You mean you don't know? My brother Max didn't tell you?" C - "Tell me about what?" P - "Oh, nothing. Nothing at all. I'd better run." Payola leaves within five seconds of arriving. "What the %^&@ is going on? Has everyone gone loco?"

Max discovers Diana in a crumpled heap on the landing with a single trickle of blood coming from one nostril. He rushes to save his damsel in distress.

Bruna returns to M/D's room giggling. "Guess what? I just pushed Diana down the stairs. M/D asks if anyone saw. Bruna says "No one." and gives a Bela Lagosi laugh.

Max carries Diana to a bedroom and pulls a bottle of alcohol from the top dresser drawer. Diana refuses to tell him what happened. Max says he will do the right thing, but he can never love his wife again. Diana tries to talk him into getting back together with M/D, saying it's been a long time for him, but to M/D, it's as if it was the next day. Diana walks out and Max stands there looking sad with tears in his eyes. ***I have feeling there will be a lot of scenes where Max tells Diana he loves her and she tells him nothing can ever come of it.***

Bruna runs into Diana in the hallway and grabs her. Bruna tells Diana if anyone finds out what happened on the stairs, Bruna will kill her. Diana calls Bruna a viper! Diana is summoned to M/D's room. M/D asks Diana to help her in getting Max back. She considered Diana beautiful but dangerous. Diana explains she isn't interested in Max. M/D then goes on and on about how much she and Max were in love prior to the "accident." She would just die if Max left her. Enough said.

Dr. Evil's chauffeur, Andre, calls Camila to tell her Dr. Evil was attacked. Camila doesn't care. Andre suggests that perhaps he could tell the cops that Camila did it. Camila calls him an idiot and hangs up.

Grandma and Diana are playing with dolls. Not only is Grandma playing with dolls, she's playing matchmaker for Diana and Max. Grandma apparently has Alzheimers. Diana explains that Marfil is alive. "Ah, yes. The dead person who isn't dead. They keep her in a locked room."

Diego and his brother Pancho are discussing Pancho's wrecked car.***Apparently it was hit by Peyote in a prior episode. Clearly Pancho has a thing for Peyote.***Diego asks Pancho how he can have so much money when he doesn't work. Pancho says he needs money to keep women interested. Diego says that he (Diego) is only interested in one woman. Diana. Pancho's official girlfriend Carmelo - the one he's been with for years - shows up. Pancho and Caramelo fight about her wanting him to set a wedding date. Carmel than accuses him of having the hots for Peyote.

Camila shows up at Psycho Mansion and recognizes Diana, but she doesn't know from where. Diana is impactada. She hopes Camila doesn't remember that she (Camila) was present when Diana was arrested and accused of assaulting Dr. Evil (who tried to rape Diana) and setting Dr. Evil's house on fire. Max brings Camila into the Library and tells her "Marfil" is alive. He then dumps her. Camila thinks it's a joke at first but then realizes it's not. She is not a happy camper.

Larry is now modeling underwear. Peyote watches and gives him directions. She tells him he's the best model in Miama. Larry has his eyes set on Hollywood, and not Hollywood Florida. He wants everyone to be proud of him.

M/D is showing Diana her photos of the happiest days of her life - when she and Max were in love. She wants to return to those days of wedded bliss. . . You think?!

More fighting between Caramel and Pancho about his allergy to the big "C." If he doesn't marry her, she's going to tell the Police he's involved with smuggling jewelry. (Or whatever illegal thing he's doing with jewelry.)

One of the models tells Larry they need to talk, but Larry is told he needs to change for the next photo shoot. Peyote wants to know what's up. The model says she doubts there will be a wedding in Larry's future since his bride-to-be, Pilar, has stopped planning it.

Camila is screaming at Max for stringing her along for so long and just using her for entertainment. She says "you promised me we'd get married." Max says he never said such a thing. She storms out yelling "I hate you!"

Nancy, a servant and Lala's daughter, comes in to talk to Gaby who is moping about Larry's upcoming nuptials. Gaby says Pilar doesn't love Larry. Nancy says of course Pilar loves Larry, why else would she marry him. Nancy and Gaby have a pity party about how sad it is to love someone who doesn't love you back. She knows because she loves Diego. Alas, they are two poor fools without luck in love.

Diana walks into the library to talk to Max. He admits he was wrong for stringing Camila along for so long. Diana tells him he needs to focus on getting his life back with Marfil. "It's the best medicine for her." "No can do," says Max "my love for Marfil is dead."

Acorralada

Hello all! I'm also going to be helping with the re-caps on Acorralada. I am new to this team, although I have been a faithful reader for quite some time. I have taken several years of Spanish in high school/college, but now it's time to take the plunge and truly strive to become bi-lingual. Before I discovered the wonders of closed-captioning, I started watching Inocente de Ti and Peregrina with limited success. I got "serious" (and I use that term loosely!) with Mundo and here I am. My goal is to give back to Caray, Caray what I have taken. When I start posting the re-caps, please let me know if I've made any errors in my synopses; I'm hoping this will be a collaborative adventure. Adios!

Acorralada

Buenos, amigos. I'm Alex, and I'm thinking of joining the Recappers' Club with Acorralada, which I saw for the first time this weekend. Melinama graciously invited me to share a few initial impressions of the main characters with you:

Frances Ondiviela (Octavia) is not a particularly charismatic WOW (Wicked Older Woman). She scowls and schemes and lays down the law. She has a good plastic surgeon and flaunts her clearance-rack chic with well-practiced nonchalance. Alas, she hasn’t got the tawdry, psychotic glamour of Joselyn “la Mapache” on Mundo de Fieras. And she is certainly no Bertha de Aragón, whose dark eyes smoldered with that compelling blend of rage and self-pity as she strode through capítulo after capítulo of Heridas, meting out destruction with often deadly precision. No. I think Octavia was picked from the Villainess Tree before she was ripe.

Alicia Plaza (Bruna), on the other hand, has possibilities. She came off the same branch that bore fruit to Doña Jacinta and Darth Tere. With her slicked-back bob, heavy eyeliner, and tailored uniform, she looks like an updated version of the sadistic lesbian reform-school matron in Diary of a Lost Girl. Her screen time was limited to maybe three minutes on Friday; hopefully she will have more than a few lines this afternoon.

David Zepeda (Maxi-Maxi-Maximiliano) is a mighty tasty-looking slab of beefcake who looks only 10 years younger than his screen mother. Although Zepeda was first runner-up in the Manhunt International 2000 pageant, he did not win any of the individual categories, such as Talent or Personality. In Friday afternoon’s episode of “Acorralada” he managed to look attractively worried and attractively perplexed. His acting range may be even wider. We shall see.

Maritza Rodríguez (Marfil/Deborah) is pretty, blonde, and understands the need to Keep Her Audience Informed. A particularly fine example was a scene where she faced the camera, with her back to Octavia. Rodríguez cleverly kept her eyes in constant motion to indicate to the viewers that her character was listening and thinking and not made of the substance she was named after. (Am I alone in thinking that calling your daughter “Ivory” qualifies as child abuse?)

As for me, I started watching telenovelas to improve my aural comprehension of Spanish (my fourth language, so a little shaky). I stumbled across this blog by accident while searching for capítulo recap of La Fea that was better than the ones that esmas has to offer. Y'all do a fabulous job here, I must say.

Welcome to Acorralada!

Greetings. I want to introduce myself, as I am a new recapper. I started watching Acorralada a couple of weeks ago, when I was casting about for a new novela to watch, as my current fave, La Fea Mas Bella (LFMB), will be ending soon. This blog helped me get up to date on LFMB when I started watching two/three months after it started. I keep reading just for fun now.

Unfortunately, I was not happy with many of the other selections. LFMB is a comic novela, and all the others are weirdly melodramatic. I had never watched any other novelas, so I was not prepared for the style. Then I happened upon Acorralada. It seems worth watching.

Although I missed the very beginning (Jan 15), I was able to pick up the plot for the most part, and I was amused by the antics of the various characters: There are a bunch of bratty rich teenage girls who hang out on the beach (it's set in Miami) and prance around in bikinis and fight over the hunky shirtless teenage boys. There are a lot of secrets being held by various people. There is the evil housekeeper who dresses in a man's suit and looks like Milton Berle (okay, I'm dating myself again with these ancient references). She's a little like Mrs. Danvers in Rebecca (to name another).

As for me, I'm a lawyer here in NYC. I resumed studying Spanish last year (after having two years of college Spanish many years ago) because I began to have a lot of Spanish-speaking clients. I work with a nonprofit agency, and we help people get Social Security disability payments. A lot of them are Spanish speaking. I hired a tutor from Craig's list and began watching Spanish TV for practice. I started watching LFMB because I had heard that the Ugly Betty show was coming to English language TV and I thought it would be interesting to watch the Mexican version. Now I like the Mexican version much better (the American version is just like an extended Devil Wears Prada).

My Spanish is getting much better. I can have basic conversations with my clients ("Tiene dolor en sus piernas?"), and I can follow the action in these shows. The assistance of my DVR and closed captioning is invaluable.

I will start recapping some of these shows along with another recapper, Karen. If someone else wants to help, that would be great too! Also, a million thanks to blogmom Melinama, who posted the great cast list/combination summary. I look forward to hearing from anyone else who is watching.

Pictures of Fernando Colunga from new movie "Ladron"

Lesa, who sent these pictures, writes:

I thought maybe you would like to share these photos of Fernando, taken in August/September on the set of the movie, with everyone on the Blog.

The first photo is with some of the cast, from left to right: Gabriel Soto, Ivonne Montero, Fernando Colunga, Miguel Varoni and Oscar Torres, the guy on the right wearing the glasses and the plaid shirt is JoJo Henrickson, the writer of the movie and also is in the movie.

This photo has the original working name for the film, "Movidas" then later it was also called "Bandoleros" and now they have named it "Ladron Que Roba a Ladron".

The second photo from the set, left to right: Oscar Torres, Fernando Colunga and JoJo
Henrickson.

Wow, THANKS, Lesa. But are they going to show this movie in the U.S.? How are we going to get to see it??

Duelo Feb 2

Max and Coral dance into the house, he decides to serve drinks and compliments her. He lets slip a comment about a ‘muchacha’ and Coral’s ears perk up, “oh is there some girl Emilioooo likes here?” Max falls back into standard guy who is about to score mode and tells her “uh no no whatever forget about that, focus on the drinks here.”

Emilioooo finds Alina at the fair, this exchange (ending with Emiliooo forcing a kiss on Alina) was at the end of yesterday’s recap, I’ll spare you a rehash. After the kiss, Alina pushes him away and tries to pretend like she didn’t care about it. She does look nice in this dress, amazing how well Gaspar figured out her size. Emilioooo says they will spend walk and have fun together, she disagrees and yells for help. Nobody helps her and Emilioooo the ass laughs at her about it.

Coral is telling Max how she became a dancer and how Emiliooo found her there and he’s so great etc etc. Whatever. Then she tells Max that she knows she is just a good time for Emiliooo and she doesn’t ask for anything more from him.

OH for crying out loud, friggin Don Loco sneaks into Soledad’s room in the dark AGAIN. She tells him she isn’t afraid of death, he says no, death would be rest and she won’t be allowed to rest. They have the same conversation as always, he accuses her of the DNA test to turn him in and run off with her lover. I swear to God and I just don’t want to take the time right now to go back and read the recaps, but didn’t this scene happen already? Are they just replaying this conversation in the dark in Soledad’s room once a day or what? Jeez give me a break already. He makes threats, she whimpers, he leaves, etc, same as always.

Emilioooo tells Alina, in about 500 words, “ok come with me and have fun, quit giving me a hard time, let’s go dance.”

Angel is running through the forest holding his chest, he sits down and has a wonderful coughing fit and says he can’t run any further. But wait! He has to save his Florecita and finds strength to get up and run some more. He’s just like a superhero, or a pro wrestler. Just when you think he is done, the crowd chanting “hulk hulk hulk” gets him up again.

Max tries to get into Coral’s room when he walks her up there, she shuts him down. He says Emiliooo is lucky. She asks “why, because I love him?” He says “no, because of HOW you love him.” What he really means, I think, is “That kid is so lucky because he gets to just use you for sex and you accept it.” Outside the door Max twirls his moustache and walks away, seemingly not too upset that he got denied. Hey wait – isn’t this house full of hookers? Can’t he find some action somewhere?

Rosita and Santos look for Flor at the fair.

Gaspar walks into a tent where a play is being performed.

Emilioooo tries to get Alina to drink but she won’t. She isn’t talking because he told her to stop insulting him and she has nothing else to say. He wants to toast, she says no way. He says she hasn’t seen that he is capable of hitting her in the head. What? Drink with me or I’ll hit you in the head? What the hell? I don’t even know what else to say about that so we’ll move on.

Apparently this threat worked because when we come back from commercial, she’s doing a shot of tequila. She coughs like she never tasted it before and says it’s awful. He says the first one is always bad, have another! Wow it’s just like parties in college. She says no. Ok, so it’s not like parties in college. Emilioooo’s friends show up and I notice that sun is shining in, wasn’t it night time? They want to sit down but Emiliooo says no, he wants to be alone with her. They leave and he forces her to get up and dance with him. Some locals (do we know who this couple is?) see the crowd and start talking to each other. The husband says that it’s shameful how they brought all the hookers here and look how that guy is treating our Florecita! He wants to do something but his wife stops him. Emilioooo has a (not orange) flashback of dancing with Alina way back when. Back in the present day they both look miserable. Alina has a flashback of the same thing, hers is a little more orange. This all illustrates that much more how messed up these two are.

Back in the locked room Orlando finally wakes up. He tries to get out but of course he can’t. He yells for someone to open the door.

The newly sexually aware Gaspar is still in the front row but the play has ended and now some hot chick is dancing on stage. I’m not sure what kind of show it is supposed to be, she is wearing a regular evening dress and is dancing like someone would dance at a bar with their friends. It isn’t some stripper show or anything, just some woman on stage dancing. Gaspar of course loves it, he takes big swigs from his bottle of booze. He gets up on stage, saying “Munequita!” He grabs the woman and she screams for help. A bouncer comes after Gaspar but he uses some Lucha Libre moves on him and throws him into the crowd. Finally a second bouncer comes to help and they are able to subdue Gaspar and drag him off. The lady was wearing a reddish/orange dress, a similar color to Thelma’s dress from that day at the whorehouse, so perhaps that is why Gaspar got confused. Personally, I think he is just insanely horny.

Alina and Emilioooo are sitting down again, he is putting down shots while she looks bored. She takes his glass away, he is drunk as hell. He wants to dance again, she tries to resist but can’t. The local guy stands up, he won’t let his woman stop him from doing something this time. I thought he was going to say something to Emilioooo, but instead they just leave. Maybe he is going to go report what is going on to Don Loco.

The two bouncers have hats that look like police, maybe they were more official ‘security’ than just bouncers. They are bringing Gaspar into jail and throwing him into a cell. He is passed out drunk so they just call him an idiot and lock him up.

Angel arrives at the part of the fair where they have the carnival games that are a ripoff. The guy who has the rifle shooting stall tells him that Emilioooo was forcing Florecita to dance with him and that made the locals angry. Just then a posse of locals passes by and Angel asks what they are up to. The carnie tells him that they are going to get their guns and rid this place of those who bring scandals to their little place. Angel is a bit impactado, he looks stressed. He doesn’t cough, however. Maybe he is getting better.

Gaspar wakes up and complains that his head hurt and cries out “where am I?” A cop comes up and tells him, “jail, stupid.” Cop #2 comes by and says they are all taking up arms to go defend Florecita, come on! Boy, for being trapped in a cave, Alina has managed to make friends with the whole surrounding area.

Orlando sits on a bed and swears vengeance on Emiliooo for locking him up. He throws a little temper tantrum.

More locals run around the fair getting ready to fight, Angel walks over behind some bales of hay and takes something out of his pocket. I think he is going to set the hay on fire to protect his brother. Why would he be carrying matches around? I’m sure he doesn’t smoke, what with his cough that has suddenly, mysteriously, disappeared.

Alina has had enough and wants to sit down. Emiliooo tries to kiss up on her a bit and hold his face close. Just then the posse comes into the bar tent. This is the poorest excuse for a posse I’ve ever seen. For all the guys that have been running around, we get this small band of losers to come defend Flor’s honor. Emiliooo’s friends try to say they don’t want a problem. Posse leader says they should have thought of that before they bothered ‘their’ Flor. Emilio, who is apparently drunk now because he is sporting the official drunk guy shirt-tail hanging out look, tells the guys “ok then your problem is just with me.” Lots of guys puffing their chests out. The friends say they will leave, Emiliooo says no way, we are going to stay. This reminds me just a bit of when Fernando was drunk at the bar on La Fea a couple weeks ago. I haven’t been watching that much any more, but I did see that there was an ENTIRE EPISODE devoted to Fernando being drunk at a bar. They are dragging that show along as slowly as possible these days.

I was right, Angel is starting a fire. Luckily for him, the hay was apparently completely soaked in gasoline or something because the match he was using would barely stay lit, but the pile of hay went up in an instant. There was even some blue flame, showing that there were some highly combustible chemicals involved. Angel is apparently new to this crime thing, since he stands there looking at the fire for a second instead of just getting out of there. Everyone inside the tent next to the pile of hay starts screaming “Fire Fire!” even though the fire is OUTSIDE the tent they are all sitting in and they haven’t seen it yet.

Angel runs into the bar tent and announces that there is a fire, everyone runs out. Emiliooo asks him “what are you doing here?” They both run out in search of Flor. They both find her at the same time and both try to take her away from the other one. Lots of arm pulling. Angel is oblivious to the fact that he is the third wheel, he keeps saying that he will go with them while Emiliooo tells him that he and Alina are going somewhere else, not the hacienda, Angel keeps insisting that he come along to take care of drunk Emilioooo. Emilioooo is impactado, “You? Take care of ME?” He punches Angel in the face and leaves him on the ground, while he is admiring his punch Flor runs off.

Back at the fair, there is a big fire and people run around a lot. The cops run into the jail, which is filled with smoke, to let Gaspar out of his cell. Outside, it still looks like only the pile of hay is on fire, but everyone is acting like it is the great Chicago fire. How did smoke end up in the jail from this little fire? A lot doesn’t quite make sense here. Also, why did everyone run from the bar tent when the fire wasn’t near that place?

Flor/Alina runs into the cave screaming for Luba, who is sitting right there. Luba sits her down. Flor tells Luba about what happened with Emilioooo. Flor immediately starts making excuses for Emiliooo, “he must have a wound on his heart” or whatever. Hey Flor, maybe he’s just an ass and was so nice to you before because you’re hot and he wanted to get you naked. Just a thought. It might not be ‘true love’ because a man is nice to a pretty girl. I’m just saying. Luba sends her to her room, wondering where Gaspar is.

Emiliooo staggers into his room, moaning about Flor. He falls on his face on the bed.

Gaspar staggers in, Luba goes off on him for not being home. He says he was in “La Carpa,” which as far as I can tell means he was in a fish. Is that a slang term for jail that some online resources aren’t familiar with? I’d ask my wife, but she gave up on this show long ago and isn’t even home right now. She tells him to go find Angel and see if he is ok.

Alina begs the dog for forgiveness. She mumbles to herself a bunch of worthless stuff, including whining about Emiliooo and about how she is in love with him. How do you inspire that kind of loyalty in a woman for real? If I didn’t treat my wife well, she wouldn’t be sitting in a cave thinking how much she still loves me, she would be calling me asking where this month’s alimony check is.

Ominous music means something bad is happening, oh yes, there is a snake sneaking up on Angel, who is still laying on the ground unconscious. Emiliooo must be able to kill with a single punch when he’s sober, if he can knock somebody out for over an hour even when he’s drunk. Man this snake is HUGE. It slinks up towards Angel’s face.

We get to see Alfonsina getting doused again coming out of the commercial, I’m ok with that.

Gaspar arrives in time to pull the snake off of Angel and throw it into the woods. Whew. He tries to wake up Angel but can’t, so he just picks him up and throws him over his shoulder.

Flor is pacing in her cave, in a nice little nightshirt. Where did she get that, I thought she just had jeans and a t-shirt and now that dress? She must have a closet we don’t know about. She talks to herself some more about Emiliooo. I can’t bring myself to try and write the details here, believe me you didn’t miss anything. She has a memory of him being manly or something. At the end she says if Emiliooo can’t accept her the way she is now, then she won’t tell him that she is really Alina Montellano. Ok, fine.

Gaspar brings Angel into his room, Max shows up and is freaked out and says to call a doctor. Emiliooo must really have quite a punch!

Emiliooo wakes up for a minute to complain about his head hurting. Orlando pounds on his door and tells him to open up. He tells Emilioo that he owes him something, our hero says he doesn’t understand anything, what are you talking about? Orlando wants to know who locked him up, Emiliooo just tells him to quit talking so loud. Orlando then says he knows it was Emiliooo who locked him up, so he could go to the fair with Flor. Ok then genius, then why did you ask who did it? Emiliooo looks at Orlando in shock, perhaps he is amazed that his complex plan was discovered so easily.

The servant tells Max that she called a doctor. Max tells her to get Gaspar something to drink, she wants to give him breakfast, he deserves it, no? Max reluctantly agrees. He tells her to makes sure she tells Emiliooo about Angel.

Emiliooo admits it was him that locked up Orlando, “But don’t be mad, you would do it too, right?” Oh sure then it’s all ok. What is a little incarceration between friends, right? They have a little pissing contest, trying to make each other feel bad. The servent comes in to tell Emiliooo about Angel. He has the nerve to act surprised. I suppose we are supposed to believe that he doesn’t remember anything. After they leave, Olando says he is glad, he hopes Angel dies so Emiliooo will suffer.

Rutilio comes into Don Loco’s office, Don Loco tells him that word on the street is that Rutilio knows who is trying to help Alina escape. Rutilio looks like a kid in the principal’s office. He pleads innocence and ignorance. Don Loco says whatever, I know who it is, it’s you! He smacks Rutilio in the face with his riding crop.

Oh yeah now we’re talking – Some swimming pool somewhere with at least one bikini girl walking around. Blanca approaches Thelma, who is wearing way too much clothing to be sunbathing, though that is what she is supposedly doing. Blanca tells Thelma that Elias is back in Canada. Thelma says she is getting married soon, to Emiliooo Valtierra. Blanca is impactada. How do these two know each other, anyway? And although it looks like a warm day, Thelma is showing a little evidence of being cold. Maybe Emiliooo needs to show up with some jacket or her to wear or something, like he did when Alina had a similar problem back at the party, oh so long ago.

Flor is helping the manual laborers out in the field. She must provide medical help, she is telling one guy to go home and rest. They rehash Flor’s night with Emilioooo.

Rutilio and Don Loc are riding horses, Rutilio is still pleading innocence. Don Loco tells him to shut up. Have they been doing this the whole time since they were in his office? Don Loco says Rutilio will see what happens to those who disobey. He will take back land that he had given Rutilio for his family, and la familia Rutilio will have to leave. Rutilio finally admits that it was Santos that helped Flor and begs Don Loco to not hurt his family. Don Loco says you had the chance to tell me and you didn’t, tough noogies.

Emiliooo the doctor notices that Angel has a fever. He and Max act concerned. All this from getting punched in the face? Max thinks that Angel just got drunk. Emiliooo says he doesn’t drink, but Max says there is always a first time. Angel stirs and says “Don’t hit me Emiliooooo.” Max says “you hit your brother?” Emiliooo the loser says “I don’t know, I don’t remember anything!” He has an orange flashback where he DOES remember. “Oh yeah now I remember.” He acts contrite and tells Max what happened. He says if Angel dies he’ll never forgive himself. Then he has an orange flashback to forcing a kiss on Flor. He tells Max he was acting like a crazy man, what have I done?

We are back to the pool. Why isn’t Thelma wearing a swimsuit to catch sun? What a ripoff. She is telling Blanca that she has been with Emiliooo for a long time. Blanca says she has a goddaughter that also had something with him, but apparently it was nothing serious. Thelma says “apparently not.”

Don Loco tells Sergio to tell Santos that he wants to talk to him. He asks Sergio if he thinks Soledad is trying to escape, Sergio says she is sad and misses her daughter. Don Loco then goes on about how much he loves/loved Soledad. WHATEVER.

Marianita is playing with some other kids at the hospital. A little boy sings a song and she is mesmerized. They are playing some game, he takes his hat off and they realize they both lost hair and decide to be friends. Her mother is with the doctor about her treatment, I can’t really tell if things are going well or not. I think yes. Her chemo is going ok.

Emilioooo’s buddies are talking to Orlando about what a tool Emiliooo is and what happened the previous night. Orlando is pleased, again, that Angel is suffering. When buddy #1 asks him if he is happy about it, though, he pretends not to be and calls buddy #1 crazy.

Don Loco tells Soledad to get ready, they are leaving. To go see Alina. She is pleased. She doesn’t seem to suspect that he will find a way to make it uncomfortable for her, which I’m sure he is planning to do.

Alina whines to Rosita some more about Emilioooo. They make plans to go to the church together. They talk about Angel’s condition some more too.

Adela and Soledad discuss the trip to go see Alina. Soledad says she is sure that Don Loco is trying to make her suffer. But she doesn’t care, she gets to see Alina.

Orlando is pretending to be helpful to Emiliooo. Emiliooo sends Orlando to go find Gaspar so he can talk to him. Emiliooo begs Angel for forgiveness. He goes on and on and on about Flor and Thelma, a bunch of the same old thing.

Go Bears.

Mundo de Fieras: 2/2/07

Regina and Dolores are the best of friends again despite Dolores' making a statement to the police about the remote control being a detonator and claiming Demian used it in an attempt on Gabe's life (the one that blew up Gabe's chauffer instead). --Man, how hard up for friends can Regina be that she thinks she has to apologize for telling off Dolores about getting her husband in trouble with the police and accusing him of attempted murder? --Regina then gets a call from Pau that because JC must've gotten a serious case of food poisoning, Leo has suggested they cancel the trip. That call reminds Regina that Leo called a few minutes earlier looking for Dolores, but that he hadn't mentioned JC's being sick to her at the time. She says that she thinks it was strange and asks what he wanted with Dolores. Dolores says she has no idea and rushes out.

Karen comes over late to see J.C. to lend him emotional support. Of course, she totally forgets that Paulina, in her bathrobe, will be more than a bit "surprised" to see her there that late at night. Pau seems to accept the stupid excuse that Leo called her and told her JC was ill and leaves the two of them alone in the bedroom to chat while she goes to answer the doorbell for the medicine delivery. Karen says the obvious to JC, that Pau still doesn't suspect anything. JC says he's to the point of alienating his wife so that she'll turn to some other man for emotional support, one who will turn out to be a great father once he's pushing up daisies. Karen, who has seemingly turned over a new leaf, tells him that is not the way to handle things because it will only make his wife suffer more. (This Karen is definitely a bore now. She was a heck of a lot more fun when she was a diddling, drunk-as-a-skunk devil in Prada.)

At breakfast the next morning, Mayeya and the other maid, Nina, are feeding the two little boys together at the table at Gabe's request, so that they could grow up together as brothers should. Jos walks in and screams at them about feeding the boys breakfast together. She says she's the one who gives the orders there, tells them to separate the boys and has Nina take Luis Gabriel back up to his bedroom. She then finds herself fascinated by little Luis David. (So I guess one of these days they'll have to go by their middle names, right, 'cause this first name thing can get confusing in a hurry.) She picks the boy up and puts him into her lap. She has a tender moment with him and thinks to herself how he is her real son and she is pulled emotionally by him.

Regina comes by the apartment and is surprised to see her son going back to work so soon. JC tells his mother that he has a lot of work to do and couldn't stay home. She tells him she's worried for him and doesn't believe his excuses. He promises to take better care of himself.

Demian and Dolores are having words about the complaint she filed with the police over the remote control device. All the while as they talk, Demian is fiddling with a very sharp letter opener. Dolores mumbles that it was all Nic's idea, not hers, and that she thought they were doing the right thing. He threatens Dolores by saying that if something happens to him because of her and Nicolas' complaint to the police, Tiberio will not forgive her. He warns her that if he goes down Ti goes down with him. (I cannot believe she is still living under the same roof with them after this.)

Ti and El Mastin are certain that Rogelio had something to do with the nightclub's being shutdown.

Mariangela walks in to the dining room during breakfast, finds Jos holding Luis David, and asks just what she's doing with her son. Jos asks if she's afraid she'll harm him or something. Mariangela says if she even tries anything it will be the last move she ever makes. Not only is she ready to defend her own son from her but Jos's son as well. Jos taunts Mariangela about having finally turned into a true wild beast, and Mariangela says essentially, "You ain't seen nothin' yet! If you don't believe me just try something and find out!" Then she turns on her heel and walks out leaving Jos to think about having just held her real son in her arms.

Gabe tells Rog that he's pleased that his son has changed his attitude and he wants him to move into the apartment with him. He feels Miriam might try to do something against him as payback. Rog is all smiles and says Mariangela has become his protector there in the manse and he's glad to see she isn't as bad as he'd come to think.

Upstairs Jos gripes to Miriam about what just happened between her and Mariangela down in the dining room and how aggressive she's become, even over Luis Gabriel. Miriam says, well after all he really is Mariangela's, then asks Jos how she feels when she's near her real son and if there is any kind of pull.

El Mastin visits El Coyote at the jail and tells him about the club being shut down by the authorities. He says he is sure Rogelio had something to do with it. El Coyote chuckles and says he has no doubt he did. He tells Mastin that if he wants to stay buddies with the old Coyote-man, he will have to keep him up to date on all the things Ti and his daddy are planning. El Mastin tells him to count on it.

Demian yells at Tiberio about his careless management of the club and losing that cash cow. As if that weren't bad enough he gives him holy hell for being a major idiot by putting the remote control device somewhere it was certain his dopey dufus mother, Dolores, could find it. She nearly exposed him and all his dirty deeds. So Demian slaps the craps right outta him. (If ya' want a job done right ya' just got to do it yourself, Demian.....) Ti apologizes endlessly but Demian says he doesn't know whether to believe him or not. He thinks Ti wanted possibly to get him out of the way so he could be left with everything. Ti stammers that that wasn't it at all. So Demian warns him he never forgets nor forgives a betrayal, and he would not do it even for him, his own son.

Pau comes to the office to get JC to return home to rest. He refuses, saying he has quite a lot of work to catch up on. She finally gives in and leaves, but she is definitely confused and saddened by all of this.

Karen approaches the two maids, Mayeya and Nina, during playtime outside with with the idea of taking the two little boys for a while. (What?) Mayeya remarks to Karen she's surprised to see her take an interest. Karen takes both of the boys in her arms and has fun playing merry-go-round with the two of them.

Gabe and Mariangela are in his office again when he asks her to have dinner at his place that night. This time she accepts. He is in 7th heaven and wonders what he'll cook up for her tonight. I figured he must be thinking just what I was thinking: "Who cares? If she really does show up, it's a lead pipe cinch it won't be food that'll be cookin' in his apartment."

Ti accuses Rog of shutting down the club to get even with him for keeping the nightclub as his own. Rog tells him he's hallucinating and laughs at him. Tiberio says sooner or later he'll make him pay for that betrayal and he leaves disgusted. Rog smiles at himself and says he probably ought to find a way to get even with Miriam now that he's handled Tiberio so well. He'll need to find her weak spot, someone whom he can use to get information.

At Otilia's, she, Diana and Soraya are discussing how one of their clients heads the official women's help centers in the D. F. We get another P.S.A. for the abused/abandoned women's help centers that give legal, financial and emotional support to these women and we even get a phone number. Diana vouches for their worthwhile assistance. Right then Mariangela invites them for drinks at the manse.

Pau comes to get JC to join her for lunch but he refuses, saying he has somebody bringing him something and she better go without him. She again is disappointed and confused by his attitude.

Rog seeks out Ingrid at Miriam's fashion house and invites her to dinner. He starts putting on the moves and when she accepts, he mentally pats himself on the back for successfully drawing her in, hook, line and sinker.

Leo comes home and hands over to his momma the prize winnings he got from winning the lottery. (Now maybe he can fix that door handle that keeps coming off in his hands everytime he enters the set.) Well, we know that Mayeya and Cortito were discussing their wedding; they will not have a honeymoon as they can scarcely afford the tiny reception they're planning. He tells his mother that she should keep the money for all she has done for him, and says that he is also thinking of giving some of his money to Cortito for the wedding.

Later that afternoon, Jos and Miriam arrive home to find Mariangela, Diana, Soraya, and Otilia chatting and laughing while waiting for Candy and a few of her friends to arrive, that is, a few dozen of their closest "mujeres engañadas" (deceived women) from the D.F. The two of them stomp up to Jos's room. Jos says that they have to get Mariangela out of their house and quick. Miriam says eventually they'll figure out a way, but until then they have to go down and eat with them all. Jos refuses to socialize with the likes of that group. Her mother warns her if she doesn't change her attitude Jos is going to prove to Mariangela that Jos cannot handle as much garbage as Mariangela. So they will have to go down and swallow it. Miriam remarks how things have changed in that house since Mariangela has returned and begun to appropriate more and more of the house. She says it seems Jos is the one who tries to escape by taking refuge in her bedroom while Mariangela rules the roost. Miriam's observation makes Jos think about the irony of what she's just said.

Pau goes home to eat by herself and worries because JC is acting so differently towards her. At his desk JC writes a bitter-sweet letter of explanation to his future child about why he is leaving their lives. He breaks into tears. (Well, heck if I didn't cry right along with him. It was definitely a 3-hanky scene for me. This golden adonis has been the most sincere and the best interpreted male character throughout this whole goofy "production". Ugh! I think I even have to congratulate the writer of this scene, because the letter JC writes to his unborn child really struck a nerve ..........Naw, it must've been the 3 glasses of Pinot I had to drink beforehand just to get through this episode.)

Otilia thanks Miriam and Jos for deciding to join the simple folk a while. When they say they own the house and are not joining them, Otilia sweetly suggests they'd feel more comfortable taking their food up then to their rooms and letting the rest of them eat and drink and be merry in the living room. They snidely decline and have Mayeya set up two places in the dining room for a more formal meal for themselves.

A bit later Leo returns to his mom's place and takes great joy in presenting Mayeya and Cortito an envelope full of cash as a wedding present. Candy sits down and tells Leo how proud she is of what he's done and how she only wishes he could find a decent woman to love and marry him. (She had better be a nurse on roller skates is all I can say......) Leo bemoans the fact that he seems destined to remain single and loveless.

At an intimate dinner Rog tells Ingrid that now he's free, he can respond to the inner yearnings towards her that he previously had to hide. She (another lonely, insecure female of near middle-age) falls for his load of garbage and they start making out at the restaurant.

That night Mariangela does actually arrive at Gabe's. Over a bottle of champagne he tells her they deserve their happiness and they should begin again from where they left off. They shouldn't continue to fight or stay apart from one another for something he didn't knowingly do. (All I could think of at this point was that they had dyed handsome César's greying temples and eyebrows -even waxed them- in a painfully obvious and futile attempt to make him look 20 years younger.) Mariangela isn't sure she can really trust Gabe, but he promises her he'll never hurt her again. She gives in and they kiss. Gabe and Mariangela start undressing each other, their clothes falling to their feet, in a not-to-original scene that is very reminiscent of the one in La Madrastra. (Well, how many ways can you do a scene like this, anyway? --At least the female lead was much nearer César's age in that one...... Ay! César, how could you have let them humiliate you this way?) The two of them end up in bed and make love. It goes from grotesque to ridiculous here, with some fruit-cake direction that has them smiling broadly at each other while continually dragging the same red rose down each other's back. --All I could think of while I was wincing and watching this scene was: "Ooch! Ouch! Watch out for the thorns on that stem already!" and then, "That has to be a fake rose 'cause there is no way those petals could have stayed in place like that....." --Finally, mercifully, this fruit-cake fantasy ends and the two smile in each other's arms while I have gone for another glass of Pinot. I figured I could use a big drag on a cigarette about then, too, but not because that bed scene was anything to write home about..........

Paulina waits for JC to come to bed. When he crawls in he turns his back on her. She is again saddened and confused by his change in attitude and his coldness towards her.

Late that night Regina tells Dolores that she is feeling strange. She has a distinct impression that something very wrong is going on with her son. She is anxiety ridden at this point and fairly screams at Dolores that she is going to find out just exactly what that might be.

La Fea Más Bella #202 2/2/07 No ice cream.

Aldo is barely tolerating Luigi's vapid flirtation when Marcia screeches for Luigi, who runs out to pacify Marcia. Aldo looks grim as he remembers Lety telling him that Marcia was always rude to her, humiliated her and wanted to fire her.

Luigi brings Marcia into Aldo's office to introduce Aldo. She greets him politely, and Aldo tells her she has pretty eyes the color of the sea. (Luigi bites his fist with envy.) He adds that there is sadness in her eyes. She says he is a perceptive man. Luigi says his friend is a barrel of laughs. He explains that he got Aldo the room so they can work more closely together.

Marcia wants to talk to Luigi. Aldo excuses himself, leaving Luigi and Marcia alone in his office. Marcia enthusiastically says that Luigi has found one very handsome friend! (Wow - this is the most animated I've seen Marcia in many months!) She adds that he's also very charming. "I know that," Luigi agrees happily. He warns Marcia that Aldo is going to fall for him, because he saw Aldo first. He says something like it will happen faster than someone who wants to get out of the closet. Marcia laughs - an unfamiliar sight - which causes her to squeeze her eyes shut. Very tiny vertical lines appear on her forehead around her eyebrows. (Good, the botox is finally starting to wear off! Thank goodness!)

At the Hall O' Justice

At Judges 'R' Us, Fern tells Lety that they share the blame for what happened, but it was mostly his fault, because he caused the company's initial crisis. (Black suit with pale yellow shirt and it looks like a red and orange striped tie. Clearly, this is a man who is not afraid to wear colors.) She says okay, but now the responsibility is hers as president, and she wants to get it over with and never see him again. She'll wait for him at the meeting. Fern excuses himself and leaves.

Save your ice cream for another night. That's all the Fern you're getting for now.

Lety looks sad. RoboPop doesn't notice. He goes to get the car and tells Tomas to look out for Lety. Tomas asks Lety what Fern wanted. She says she'll tell him later, but says she's finding it difficult to be as cold with Fern as she would like.

He asks about the gift she's holding. "It's for the airhead," she giggles. He asks how she likes his tie (it's tied properly today). Lety says that "she" will find it charming. Tomas wonders if "she" will strangle him with it. Lety sighs and says she has to make a decision about the airhead's future.

"Lety, what are you thinking of doing to her?" Tomas cries, pulling out the laminated magazine photo. Lety sighs again.

Meanwhile, back at Conceptos

The cuartel arrives in the main lobby. (Scratch what I said yesterday about PM being dressed slightly more modestly than usual; it was an optical illusion caused by buttoning her jacket.) Despite the fact that they are very late, they hang around the lobby to try to piece the Conceptos situation together. Martha, who seems to be eating a Fudgesicle, asks PM what Lety told her when the lawyers visited Conceptos to size it up for the lien or seizure (I think this happened a long time ago in an episode I didn't see). PM says she was told that she didn't hear or see anything. Irma complains, but PM has no more information to share.

Lola says she doesn't like to gossip, but she thought there was something weird going on between Fern and Lety. Everyone gasps. "Financially," Lola adds. Juana says that Lety seemed not to even want to talk to him last night. Martha mischievously suggests that perhaps there was a romance between them. The others scoff. Noticing the time, Irma scolds them and says they'll be fired for being late. Martha boldly asks who's going to fire them. They all laugh and get on the elevator.

(Meanwhile, down the road apiece, Alicia gets off the bus, hurling insults over her shoulder at the driver and the other passengers, who jeer at her. Disoriented, she complains that she's not cut out to be a poor person. As she finds her way back to Conceptos, we notice a huge run in her stocking.)

In the executive lobby, Lopez is questioning Saimon about the cuartel's whereabouts, when the elevator dings behind them. Seeing that it's the cuartel, Saimon rushes to close the elevator doors and press the Up button before Lopez notices. Saimon says they arrived a long time ago and are having a Code Red in the bathroom. Then he babbles about his name. Marcia comes jiggling by, and Saimon nervously tells her that they've arrived and are in the bathroom.

The elevator door dings a second time. This time, Saimon is not able to protect the cuartel, who push past him impatiently. They don't see Lopez and Marcia. Lola is still bragging that they won't be fired because they're friends of the president. That's when she catches sight of Marcia and says that they were talking about someone in a telenovela who looks just like her. Marcia just wants to know why they're late. They scramble for an explanation and Martha shoves Saimon in front of Marcia. All Saimon can say is "I got here early" and he scurries away.

PM says that they were about to promise that they'd never be late again. Marcia says she's especially tired of PM's promises. Lopez points out that each of them has had two warnings (sanctions, demerits) already, and now he has no choice but to fire them.

Martha chokes on her Fudgesicle and begins to explain about their breakfast with the handsome man, but Irma interrupts and says they were out late last night celebrating Lety's big promotion. Sara says maybe Lety could explain better. Marcia angrily says that Lety can't justify their lateness. Lety being president doesn't make any difference, whether they're VPs or shareholders. This company has rules, and not even the president is above them. (I don't know if Fern ever read that memo.) They whine, and she says she won't tolerate their excuses, their attitudes, their tardiness.

The elevator dings again. It's Alicia, yelling and drawing attention to herself. She asks the cuartel if they're looking for the beauty they've lost. Marcia says that they're going to be fired. This thrills Alicia, until Marcia says it's for extreme tardiness. Alicia then slithers quietly to her desk.

Irma says they realize it's their own fault that they're late, but isn't firing them a rather extreme punishment? Marcia yells some more about Lety's presidency being temporary, and very loudly adds that friendship won't save them. (Alicia hears this and starts poking frantically at her keyboard.) Marcia shouts that it's a company rule and it won't change before, during, or after Lety's presidency, and is that clear, princesses?

Sara asks if this applies to "eeeeeeveryone?", pointing at Alicia, who is now pretending to answer the phone. Marcia says yes. Alicia ditches the phone and comes running over to protest. Marcia jiggles back to her office in disgust.

Alicia begins her verbal abuse - resentful wretches, toads... even she can't be bothered to run through the whole list and says "etc., etc., etc." She asks why can't they keep their tragedies to themselves. She claims that she's never been late before (which might actually be true). She also claims that Lopez sometimes comes in late. She goes on and on. Lopez tries to silence her, with no luck. Sara suggests that they wait till Lety shows up, and then they'll see who gets fired. Lopez does the housefly-grooming routine and says he'll be waiting for all of them in his office.

The cuartel subjects Saimon to some physical and verbal abuse. Sara wants him to go talk to Lopez and Marcia and somehow talk them out of the firing. I can't imagine how he would do that. Lola continues to insist that they won't be fired.

Alicia tells them they're all sick and crazy. The elevator dings yet again, and as the doors slide open behind Alicia, revealing Lety, RoboPop, and Tomas, Alicia continues like a train doing 90 miles an hour.

Alicia: Didn't you hear Marcia? You can't break Marcia's orders. And neither can the tlacoyo - what are you thinking? (Alicia doesn't notice that some of the cuartel are gesturing towards Lety and her posse.) She's no more than a climber who got lucky, you bunch of witches. She's had more luck than you, you poor tlacoyos.

Sara: Airhead, excuse me, are you talking about our friend?

Alicia: Of course.

Sara: The one you called the tlacoyo?

Alicia: Sure, yes, that's the tlacoyo, who else would I be referring to?

Sara: And what else do you call her?

Alicia: She's the tlacoyo bigotón (corncake with a mustache), garnacha (used up old woman, a thick type of tortilla, or a grape - depending on who you ask), sope (a fried tortilla topped with refried beans, onions, and hot sauce), cotorra de circo (circus parrot?), estropajo desparramado (mop?), sapo de charco (puddle-toad), rana de estanque (pond-frog), lombriz de agua prieta (swamp-worm), auto de... what?

Alicia finally realizes that they are pointing behind her. She turns around and sees Lety and her peeps. "Good day, Alicia," Lety greets her. "Ha ha," the cuartel chants. Lety smiles faintly. Alicia is speechless.

"I don't understand," RoboPop says. He asks what's up with the rude woman. She doesn't seem like someone who would be Lety's employee. She seems like an enemy. He tells Lety he wouldn't have to think twice about it - she should be fired immediately. The cuartel agrees. Alicia calls him "Don Erasmo" - impressive how she remembers people's names when the stakes are high - and says that the cuartel provokes her into saying things that she doesn't really feel.

Then she notices Tomas and gets all nasty again. "What are you doing here??" she demands, pointing. Lety, Tomas, and RoboPop all turn, pretending to look around for the person she's pointing at. "That jerk!!"

"Oh, you mean Tomas," RoboPop says. "Don't help me," Tomas asks. Lety introduces Tomas and says he's going to be the new VP of finance. (The feas all start hissing at Alicia, like the sound of air escaping from her head.) Sara taunts Alicia about Lety having authority. There is some more bickering, and then Lola points out that it's very strange for the president's secretary to be wearing torn stockings. Everyone stares at Alicia's overexposed legs. Sara thinks that's going to be the last straw in getting Alicia fired. Alicia runs off crying to Marcia's office.

Lety wants to know what's going on. They all sing in unison, "they fired us, Lety!" For some reason, this makes Lety smile.

The cuartel fill her in on the altercation with Marcia, and tell her that Marcia was challenging her authority. They tell Lety she has to show Marcia she can't treat her like a secretary. (They all address Tomas as "young man." Ouch.)

Lopez and Saimon come out of Lopez's office. Lopez tells Saimon to forget it and don't get involved. Then he tells the cuartel he's waiting for them in his office. They all crowd behind Lety, RoboPop, and Tomas and beg Lety to protect them. Lety tells Lopez that he can't make this decision without asking her opinion. (The cuartel applauds.) Lopez explains that rules are rules, and they apply to Lety's friends too. And Marcia -

Lety interrupts and repeats that before he decides, he must consult her. (He bows slightly. No housefly business.) Lety says she'll discuss this with Marcia.

Then she introduces Tomas to Lopez. Lopez does his scalp thing, but this time he raises his hand over his head higher than usual, perhaps in admiration of Tomas's tall hair. :-) "Welcome, Don Tomas," he says.

She introduces her father. Saimon gets his name wrong, as usual. RoboPop gives his full name (Erasmo Padilla Galarza!) and I notice that they're looping his voice again - it's really obvious. José José must not have had any wind that day. Yikes. They explain that he's going to be in charge of accounting. Lopez shakes his hand for a long time.

Lety tells the cuartel she wants to know why they arrived so late. They drag her into the restroom and tell her about the handsome man they had breakfast with. They go on and on about how fine he was. She asks why they think he's gay. They say it's because Luigi had to "rescue" him from them.

Martha is particularly impressed with his enthusiasm about food. Lety says that reminds her of a friend. They want to hear all about him, but Lety deflects and asks how it was. They talk about how the flesh was weak and therefore they gave in and had breakfast with him, until Irma flipped out and made them go to the office.

In Marcia's office

Alicia complains that it's a dark day for her - that desgraciado Tomas Mora is the new VP of finance. Imagine that, she exclaims. "They just said that to bother me, right?" Marcia, who looks like she might actually be in the middle of doing some work, says no, it's true - they talked about it at the meeting. Alicia says Marcia needs to do something about this, because these people are taking over the company. She also describes how RoboPop's first words were that Alicia should be fired. She urges Marcia to pull some strings so they don't all get fired. Marcia just narrows her big, sad eyes at Alicia.

"You're listening to me, right, Marcia?" She tells Marcia not to be manipulated by them. Marcia says that Alicia deserves it. How many times did she call her and tell her to hurry up? And what time did she arrive?

Alicia says she doesn't know the great drama she's been through today. She warns Marcia to hold onto her seat: she had to RIDE THE BUS!

Marcia spins her chair a little and gazes at the ceiling.

"You're listening to me, right?? Today I had to TAKE THE BUS to Conceptos."

"Oh, how awful for you," Marcia answers with tired sarcasm. Alicia chides her for making fun and asks "when have you ever TAKEN THE BUS?" "Never," Marcia answers cheerfully, "and I hope I never have to." Alicia complains about the naco driver and the fare of MX$2.50 which is about 23 cents in US money. And how it was smelly and crowded like sardines. Alicia says Marcia doesn't know what it's like to get up without breakfast, without food. It's very sad.

She notices that Marcia's eyes are closed. (I think Elizabeth Alvarez is getting her revenge on us for all those blinking jokes. Um, Chris started it!) She says it's rude to sleep when someone is speaking. She complains some more about being hungry. She says there were guys staring at her with lustful eyes, thinking about raping her. She begs Marcia (who is now making all kinds of faces) to keep it a secret just between them. How awful it would be if people were saying "Alicia Ferreira, ex-wife of Mauricio Birmann, who studied six semesters of finance in a distinguished, prestigious university, one day GOT ON A BUS."

Marcia yawns and asks Alicia if she thinks today is an exception. Does she think tomorrow will be any different? Alicia says yes, of course! Everything will be changed by then. It has to be different. She doesn't think she can ever GET ON A BUS again.

Marcia asks what Alicia is going to do that will change things. Alicia says she doesn't know, but what about Marcia? Marcia says she doesn't have the solution. Alicia tells Marcia that it would be bad for Marcia's image if her best friend (I would say her only friend), the spectacularly beautiful, nice, intelligent blonde... RODE THE BUS! Wouldn't Marcia be embarrassed? If people were saying that Alicia's stockings got torn, her best friend, the secretary to the president of Conceptos... She shows Marcia the torn stocking. "Do you see? Do you see this here?" Marcia peeks from the hand covering her face, trying to hide a smile. "It's not fair!!" Alicia whines.

Marcia says she's sorry, but she can't do anything about it. Her fairy godmother (her profit dividends from Conceptos) has disappeared, and now she has to depend on her salary. All because of Lety's lien, she adds. And now it's all up to Lety.

Alicia is sure that Lety will fire her. She says the cuartel is telling Lety that Marcia's orders don't matter any more, and that Marcia is a nobody. Well, not that, Alicia corrects herself, but a Doña Nobody.

Marcia says she's going to show Lety and the cuartel that this business has rules, and the rules must be kept.

Luigi calls. He's not finished with his storyboards, or his script, or something yet for the commercial. Marcia accuses him of hanging around with his "friend" Aldo. (Alicia's ears perk up.) Marcia warns him to get his work done and slams the phone down. (Do they make padded phones?)

Alicia asks who Aldo is. Marcia says he's been the only good thing about her day so far. She doesn't know where Luigi found him, but he's really handsome. Alicia gets excited about this and asks if he's married. Is he financially solvent? Marcia says why don't you ask me if he's gay like Luigi? Alicia shrugs and says that doesn't matter to her.

In Aldo's new office

Aldo is unpacking his things and telling Luigi that he'd like to meet Lety, the new president. Luigi impatiently asks why he'd want to speak with her. Aldo says it'd be nice to let her know that he's occupying this space, at least. Luigi informs him that this space is part of Luigi's domain, and he doesn't need to tell anyone how he's using it, least of all the platypus. Aldo gently reminds Luigi not to make these kinds of remarks about people. Abashed, Luigi is silenced. Aldo says he prefers and needs to tell Lety that he's using this space.

Later, more furniture arrives. Luigi says he wants to get Aldo a little picture of flowers to give the place a feminine touch. Aldo chuckles tolerantly. (You know who can draw flowers? Lety. I'm just sayin'.) Luigi flutters away and Aldo's phone rings. (No phone call jokes this time, I promise.) It's Carolina. He tells her he's excited to have this office because it will let him work on his two big projects: his book and restaurant (apparently those only count as one together), and more important, being near Lety to help her solve all of her problems which are also his problems. Heh, good luck with that, Aldo. He invites Caro to come visit him any time and says goodbye.

I've noticed that Aldo usually refers to Lety as Leticia. (I'm too lazy to type it that way.) I like that he doesn't call her by her nickname.

Later, Aldo is on the phone again with a pal in Acapulco. There's more talk about the floors, and the paint he picked out for the walls is called "tierra" (soil; earth). He wants his pal to find it so the restaurant will open on time. He says what would you do if you wanted to secure a woman's love? Open a restaurant.

Alicia peeks into the office during this fascinating conversation and jumps for joy in the hallway. She claps her hands and thanks God for sending her such a beautiful man. She peeks again and bites her lip.

Luigi walks in on the phone call, then backs out to check on Alicia. Aldo follows too, takes one look at Alicia's starry eyes, and goes back into the office to continue the conversation.

Luigi demands to know what Alicia is doing in his "territory." She says at first, today everything was dark and gloomy. But now a miracle has happened - that guy in there is rich, charming, nice, and single.

Luigi tells her that she can't touch him. He's Luigi's friend. Annoyed, Alicia reminds him that he already has a boyfriend, and not to be greedy. Luigi says first, his relationship with Ruli has been deteriorating. Not that he owes her an explanation. And second, he wants Aldo for himself. Now! He goes into Aldo's office.

Alicia looks disgusted and says to herself, "Luigi, you can't do this to me."

Aldo finishes up his call. Luigi says "Aldo, since you like the sea, look at what I brought you." (You know who can draw the sea? Lety. I'm just sayin'.) He's holding a small framed picture, the kind you would buy at Target, but Alicia drapes herself against the doorframe and says "me!"

"No, I brought you a picture," Luigi says. Alicia dodges around him and introduces herself to Aldo with a hug and kiss. "I'm charmed by your charm," he says politely. "But that's not all," Alicia tells him. "Besides being nice and charming, a natural blonde and of the highest quality, I'm very capable. I work here at Conceptos, I stuidied six semesters of finance at a university of great prestige, and at Conceptos I am the... well, I can't say exactly what my function is but today I am going to be promoted." I keep expecting her to ask him to examine her teeth.

Luigi holds up the painting and asks Aldo if he likes it.

"I'm charmed," Aldo answers. Alicia is flattered. "Not you, dummy," Luigi corrects her. Aldo says it's very nice and thanks Aldo for trying to make him feel at home. Alicia asks Aldo what he'll be doing here, Luigi says she's wasting his time and tells her go away. Aldo says it's not a waste of time to get to know someone - in fact, it's nice. But, he tells Alicia, he does have a lot to do.

As she turns to leave, Luigi notices the tear in her stockings and makes a big deal out of it. She says she caught her ring on it. She says something about costume jewelry. Luigi says it's more likely that she got a bottlecap stuck on her heel. Embarrassed, Alicia excuses herself and slowly backs out of the room.

"Ah, women," Luigi sighs to Aldo. "They were the great error of divine creation."

Aldo tells Luigi to please not let him waste any more of his time. Deflated, Luigi says he could go and work on his commercial. But what will Aldo do? Aldo says he'll occupy himself with his own stuff.

After Luigi leaves, Aldo says the first thing he wants to occupy himself with is Leticia. "Bunch of crazies," he mutters as he sits at his desk.

The phone rings again. It's Ma Bell. She wants Aldo to stop doing so many phone scenes because I can't stop making these stupid phone call jokes.

The cliffhanger

After interviewing the cuartel in the restroom, Lety returns to the lobby and tells Lopez that she wants to ask Luigi's new friend about the incident.

Just then, Alicia backs into the executive lobby, and Saimon draws attention to her torn stocking. He says her golden legs are a good complement to her bleached blond head. She thanks him sarcastically and returns to her desk.

Lopez says that Luigi's friend can't possibly justify their being late. Lety says she'll discuss it with Lopez later. She tells the cuartel to get to work, and later she'll tell them what she and Marcia decide. She reminds Lopez to show her, Tomas, and RoboPop to their offices. He asks them to follow him.

Half a second later, Aldo enters the lobby and asks to meet with the president. "Does she know you want to see her?" Lola asks. "No, she doesn't know that I'm here," he answers.

"She's busy, but if you want to, you can wait," Sara informs him breathlessly from a distance of about four inches.

"Okay, thanks," Aldo says. And with that, the Golden Ring of Goodbye closes around them.

Next week
Lety and Aldo are reunited. Wheeeee!

Because it's Friday, and because I'm in a curious mood...

I thought it's been a while since we got some Fernando fix. Colunga that is, not Mendiola. So I stumbled upon these videos sent from a friend and I just died, so I have to share them with you. Hope you all have good weekend, and if it's not so good, well, you've got these to fall back on for entertainment:

Oh and if you are at work you might want to turn down the volume on the first one! :)

La Fea Más Bella #201 2/1/07 (Recap Stand- in) Oxi finally has to ride the micro and Aldo just charms everyone!!

I put this together quick on the spot, to help out our poor "torpe" (who needn't worry because we all are here for each other and happy to get one another's backs in times just like these) so hope it helps!

Aldo watched the dawn come up again, maybe in the park, and comments how wonderful it is to see; he’s still in his same clothes. But as we see later, he must do coke or speed because he seems quite fine and awake if he stayed up all night. Sara meets Juana before work and they talk about an event but Juana is concerned about not being dressed up enough.

Lety shows her mom the picture of she and Aldo. Mom thinks he’s gorgeous and don’t show Dad because he’ll wonder what you did in Aca. Mom picks up Lety's diary that was on the bed and tells her she better take it with her or else her Papa might find it and read just like she did and that would be horrible...

Fer leaves Mar’s telling her he’s going to the judge, she is mad because “she” will be there. Fer tells her so will the lawyers etc. they won’t be alone. She smirks, sorry it’s still stuck.

Tomas is there to pick up Lety and tells Erasmo he should be dressed better for the hearing because “his employees” should look their best. Erasmo says he’s not his employee only Don Humb. Lety gets into that discussion too worrying her employees are fighting. T doesn’t want him at Conceptos all the time, but he says he’ll go there whenever he wants and if he’s mad then he’ll have to go in the bus and not in the car with him. L & T joke about being the heads of Conceptos, and having the right look and they bond. Very cute. T is worried about seeing the Oxi again.

Everyone is at the hearing except Lety’s home team, and her lawyers tell Fer that the judge is a good friend of theirs and they found out that he thinks they are abusing the judicial system because first they want to get rid of FI and now they want to keep it, so the judge is not looking favorably on them.

Alicia is trying to avoid taking the microbus to work to no avail. She has to go to a bus stop with the dregs of society blowing cig smoke in her face. She reminds herself that “naconess” or to be trashy or commonplace isn’t contagious. She pities herself for having to sink so low as to have to ride it.

Lety gets to the hearing room and Fer rushes to tell her the judge’s concern and that they might have problems. They go in. The judge essentially tells them he’s mad. L & F explain they’ve come to an agreement and they are sure this is what they want. The judge wants to teach them to respect the judicial system so instead of 6 months to pay the debts he only gives them 3 months and emphasizes that is 2166666.66 dollars per month, which Fer thinks is impossible but the judge won’t budge. They sign the agreement. Just like signing a marriage license and the judge plays with that declaring them "debtor and creditor" by the power vested in him. They are sort of feeling awkward about this as they turn to walk out of his office. The HHAs try to butter the judge up again as friends, but he’s too busy for their brown nosing.

Alicia gets on the microbus and manages to insult all the passengers thinking they are disgusting, etc.

Aldo arrives at Conceptos looking for Luigi and tell Celso he’d rather wait outside in the fresh air than go inside to wait. The cuartel arrive and are impactados at Aldo’s beauty. They all essentially fight to see what they can do for him, even Irma. He jokes that he wants ranchero eggs etc. Marta is excited about that. He tells them he was kidding, but they end up taking him for breakfast. Celso is wondering what he should tell Luigi and they say whatever he wants.

Back at the justice hall, the HHAs remind Lety and Fern the reconciliation is the way things should be done in this modern age and that they need to do this in order to make things work out well, he says they even need to reconcile physically and he makes them hug. Fer definitely wants more and has a hard time letting go of Lety. HHA 1 wants to make sure that he’ll still be on retainer by Lety even though this transaction is finished.

At the lunch, Aldo is sharing his food philosophy with the cuartel. Sara and Juana show up and are similarly impactadas at Aldo’s beauty. Sara greets him and hugs and kisses him just when Luigi comes in and he tells Aldo to be careful because these gals aren't vaccinated and he could catch something. Aldo assures him he’s fine.

Back at the justice hall HHA2 gives Lety a gift and begs her to bring it to the Oxi for him. During this conversation all the rest of the men are lined up at the back of the room and Fer is trying hard to hear what this guy might be saying to her. There are some fun visuals here for sure!

We go back to Alicia not enjoying at all the microbus ride and M calls her on the cell and wonders where the hell she is and that she better not be late to give Lety a reason to fire her. A tells her she's on her way. A looks around the bus and asks if there aren’t any gentleman anymore and one guy gets up and says yes there are gentleman but they are all sitting!

Back at the justice hall the HHAs decide they need to celebrate this great occasion with some tequila etc. so they have to go somewhere because one of the HHAs stash is empty.

Fern asks Lety if they can talk. He says she was very clear last night, but this is about the business and he tells her that he knows she doesn’t want to see him around there but now that they are on such a tight schedule she has to let him work with her at Conceptos, just like before in order to help pay the debts. Lety looks impactada.

Luigi is showing Aldo in to his office. Aldo once again tells him in disgust that he sees that Lui descriminates people based only on their appearance. Lui says is there any other way? Aldo says yes, many. "Well, have you ever been discriminated against?" Lui tells him he's giving him goosebumps. They look around as if some covert discovery is going to happen. He says of course not, he’s charming and a person with good taste, then he says or are you saying that because I’m gay? Aldo just looks at him and smiles mysteriously and sort of nods no. Lui decides it’s hot in there and that they need to get going and he starts talking about the office he's going to show him.

Marcia sees Simon coming in and questions him ala Fern style where the cuartel is and why they aren’t here yet. She’s surprised he doesn’t know where his girlfriend is and he starts trying to cover for them as Lopez flies up frothing at the mouth for this opportunity to punish the curtel. Apparently he never remembers Simon’s name and that bothers him.

The cuartel walks back from breakfast and they gossip about Aldo, and the fact that he must be in Luigi’s “club” and they are bummed out that Luigi gets all the hot men.

Fern begs her to let him be there, he doesn’t want an office, just a space to work and to borrow a secretary and maybe he’ll share Omar’s office. She says he’s going to be there too? Fer tells her yes, because he’s a minor shareholder so he kind of has to be, and he can probably help anyway. He promises her they will only talk about necessary work. She tells him she has some strategies that she wants to talk over with the committee and she didn’t imagine that the judge would be so strict, and she is concerned they might have problems.

The cuartel finally reach the building talking about something that is weird about the lawyers connecting them to FI and then wondering how they are now Lety's lawyers (the wheels are spinning for them it seems) when the micro pulls up. Alicia is pushing the stop button multiple times and is mad because the guy isn’t stopping right when she wants. She insults the riders further calling them stinky, trash, disgusting, etc. She tells the driver he’s lucky she doesn’t report him because the officer is a friend of hers. She gets off the bus and sees the cuartel and cries to him get back on and keep going. She apologizes to everyone and begs the driver to keep going further. She tells everyone they are the finest people, and she tells the driver to please keep going because those women out there are waiting to assassinate her. They end up working it out for some promises that she’ll ride everyday and sit right behind him and be good, and he proceeds forward and the bus riders say goodbye to the cuartel. This is some great stuff, and was so funny!!

In Aldo’s new office, Luigi is showing him the new space praising it’s charms and promises he's ordering furniture and it will be divine. Aldo who lives on the cliff overlooking the bay in Acapulco, surely is hiding how unimpressed he really is. Aldo tells him that his passion for what he does is so great that it doesn't really matter where he does it. He asks Lui if he didn't know that some of the greatest works in the world were created in strange places. For example, in jail full of men that are violent, aggressive etc. He says he'll do fine in this place with this view that is so, so, so. So? Lui tells him he deserves the view since he’s so nice and attractive. We hear Mar's voice calling Lui. Lui tells Aldo he wants him to meet her. Aldo remembers Lety telling him how mean Mar was to her and he gets that mad face again.

La Fea Más Bella #201 2/1/07 La Recapper Mas Torpe

Friends, I want to apologize to you profusely, as I have failed you tonight. I am feeling muy torpe (dumb), as my VCR did not record tonight's episode as expected, and I missed it completely. Below is a translation of the episode summary I found on the official esmas.com. Please feel free to comment with additional details and/or corrections.

Fernando begs Lety not to hate him, even though he knows he made too many mistakes-- for which he is now paying dearly. Lety tells Fern she forgives him but wants him to stay away from her. She warns Fern not to spill the beans to Marcia that they were actually in the same room together, since this would drive Marcia over the edge. Fernando confesses to Lety that he still loves her with all his heart.

Caro suggests to Aldo that he tell Lety about Luigi offering him an office in the Conceptos building.

Lety tells the cuartel that her relationship with Fern ended on a very sour note.

Aldo is ecstatic that he will be so close to Lety now that he will have an office in the building.

Lety tells Julieta that Fernando claims to still love her, but she believes he is still trying to B.S. her in order to manipulate her. Despite this, Lety admits that she is still hopelessly in love with him.

Fernando assures Marcia that nothing could ever happen again between Lety and him.

Lety is determined to be strong to get through this big mess and wants Aldo to help her.

Lety resolves to stay away from Fern, not just for Marcia’s sake, but also for her own.

Lety shows her mom the photo that Caro took of her with Aldo in Acapulco.

Fern leaves to go the meeting with the judge. This leaves Marcia very uneasy, since she knows Lety will be there too.

Marcia warns Alicia to be punctual so as not to give the new boss Lety any reason to fire her and throw her out on her big bulging booty.

The HaHAs are sure that the judge will think Fern and Lety are playing games with the judicial system. Sure enough, the judge grants our dynamic duo only three months to clean out Conceptos’ debts.

Aldo makes a fine impression on the cuartel and they offer to take him out for breakfast.

Fern tells Lety that even if she doesn’t want him around, they will have to work closely together, just as before, to get the job done.

Again, sorry for the mini-recap tonight. I promise to be back next time, armed with a DVR and ready to redeem myself.

Mundo de Fieras, Thursday, Feb 1

We begin tonight’s episode with a quick recap of last night’s whinging…Demian is whining about being accused by Nic & Dolores, Tiberio is belly-aching to the police officer about his business being closed (um…a bribe might work better) and Mariangela is ruining her walk on the catwalk by CONSTANTLY looking over poutily at Joselyn who is working it!! Go Jos. (I was trying to remember where I’d seen the emcee of the fashion show…he hosts Vas o No Vas—Deal or No Deal).

Otilia wins and before Miriam slinks backstage to sharpen her claws she delivers the thank you speech. Otilia gives it right back, congratulating her on coming in second place and telling the audience that she admires her because she’s a woman who know how to lose, particularly since she’s never won. Cat fight! The parade of thank yous, etc. continues until Otilia calls out MA and announces that the name of the dress is Joselyn because it reflects capriciousness, vanity and ambition.

At the after party Regina (who’s wearing enough dead animals to keep a small Eskimo village warm---where’s PETA when you need ‘em?) gets in Dolores’ face about accusing Demian of trying to blow up Gabe.

Speaking of Gabe, he runs after MA to try and explain away Joselyn’s mid-fashion show kiss. He says it was a surprise. She retorts, of course, that’s the game. She surprises you and you let yourself be surprised. He invites her to dinner, she says no. Like a very old, but crafty and lecherous spider, he invites her to his web, saying he’ll cook dinner in his apartment and wait for her. She says don’t wait for me, I won’t come. He says I’ll be waiting.

The nacos are chatting about the fashion show. Silvestre says yeah yeah yeah, enough about them, let’s talk about us. He gets down on one knee and proposes to Elsa. You would have thought he asked Leo to get married because he’s over the moon. Elsa is grimacing but after some heavy arm-twisting by Silvestre and her family she says…yes.

Paulina (wearing the Easter bunny) and JC come home giddy in love. JC rubs Paulina’s belly and scares her by talking about death (again). Later, they are preparing their bags for their trip and JC passes out. Paulina is like, what do I do? While JC’s eyes are rolling back in his head.

Otilia and her gal pals are going to celebrate their win.

At the big house, the coven is meeting in Joselyn’s bedroom and moaning about their loss. Karen goes off to bed, and the other two speculate about her recent behavior.

Gabe puts the finishing touches on his fancypants dinner. The candles burn down to help us figure out that he’s waiting a long, long, long time. MA is outside the door wondering what to do. Gabe tells himself he can’t let her rejections bother him.

Regina & Demian are discussing Nic & Lola (Dolores is just too long to type for such a secondary character). D says to be severe with her, because this accusation is really disrespectful. Regina’s like yeah, but I have to forgive her because she’s a really good friend and Tiberio’s mom. I’m sure she didn’t mean anything bad.

Meanwhile, Nic & Lola are discussing the very same thing. They don’t believe D’s claim that it was used in some old construction project but Lola’s worried that Tiberio was involved.

Back at home and back on the bed with Luis David, MA is telling him all sorts of stuff he really doesn’t care about. He’s just trying to eat his book…probably because he’s used to shoving lollipops and other candy in his mouth whenever he’s on camera…actually they probably just glued some candy inside the book. She kisses him and he pushes her away (probably not scripted). Gabe calls, he wants to talk right away. They meet downstairs in the study (with the candlestick and Colonel Mustard). They have a little argument…that sounds exactly like every other argument they’ve had since MA came back from Europe (just look at the old recaps if you want a refresher). At the end that she does admit that she loves him, but that she wouldn’t be able to fulfill her desire for vengeance if she were with him.

At Cande’s house everyone’s psyched about the wedding….everyone except for Elsa. She looks like death warmed over. Everyone finally leaves and Cande goes off to bed. Elsa takes her little bottle out of her bag for a swig, when a loud knock at the door interrupts her…it’s pesky Silvestre telling her good night and how happy he is she said yes.

Paulina finally figured out to take JC to the hospital. Leo helps her. Later, he calls D’s house looking for Lola, but Regina answers and gets a bad feeling. JC is stable but weak. He asks Leo to keep lying to everyone. He also asks if he’s going to live to see his baby. Leo doesn’t really give a straight answer.

Employing the always economical flashback (twice the show, half the work!) we see MA and Gabe mulling over their earlier chit chat.

Karen’s leaving for the hospital and Joselyn, getting drunk on the couch, asks where she’s going and why she’s been so damn moody lately. Karen asks Jos if she loved Edgar, her father. Jos says, in the beginning yes, but then he just became a nuisance.

Leonardo finishes up with his second patient (JC) of the day by tucking him into bed…in his own house. He tells him to rest and that they probably shouldn’t go on that second honeymoon.

Regina was waiting up to apologize to Dolores. They make up and they’re friends again. Regina tells Lola that Leo called and then Pau calls to tell her they won’t be going because JC was in the hospital and has to wait. Regina, slowly starting to put two and two together, asks Lola why Leo called her.

Karen shows up at the apartment of love. Pau is like how did you know JC was sick? Oh, Leo told me. Pau tries to put two and two together but she only comes up with one and a half. She goes to answer the door, leaving Karen and JC alone in the bedroom. JC tells her how awful things are and Karen tells him that Paulina really loves him and actually seems to be sincere in her answers.

Duelo de Pasiones, Thursday February 1 - Alina grows a brain for half a minute

Alina met Orlando in the woods and he invited her to go to the fair with him. Luba arrived and yelled at Alina to go take her bath in the river. Orlando asked Alina, "Do you accept my invitation?" Luba said, "This girl can't go with you anywhere," but Alina said, "Yes, I accept," and headed off for her bath.

Orlando then just "happened" to ride his horse over to the river, where of course he saw Alina swimming naked. She called to Gaspar to turn his back while she got dressed. Orlando smirked, didn't make his presence known and didn't turn his back. As Alina (now fully clothed) and Gaspar walked away, Orlando gawked after them.

Soledad somehow showed up at Maximo's house(!!) and asked to speak to Emilio. Maximo said Emilio wasn't there, but, "I'm happy we can talk alone. I know what is happening, and I can help you. I can free you from Alvaro, denounce him, say that he kidnapped you. That way I can save you and your daughter."

Soledad looked unimpressed. Maximo tried to take her arm and Soledad said, "Don't touch me." Maximo asked, "Why are you so cold with me? You know you're beautiful. I've always liked you," and grabbed her, saying, "You had a daughter with an overseer, why not with me?"

Soledad slapped him and ran away yelling, "Idiot!" Maximo rubbed his jaw as if he'd lost a few teeth and growled in a dramatically pained voice, "Soledad, I will make you pay for this with tears of blood!" He's so over-the-top. Definitely my favorite character on this show.

Emilio went to Coral's room, where she was again wearing her favorite towel, and told her, "There's nothing between you and me." Coral cried and said to herself, "I've lost him forever."

Rosita told Santos and Vera she had been summoned to clean Maximo's office. Vera said, "That old man wants you for something else," and volunteered to clean the office herself.

Later Maximo slithered into his office and grabbed Vera, but released her when he realized she wasn't Rosita. She said Rosita was sick and had sent Vera to clean his office instead. Maximo retreated to his desk in defeat.

Blanca found Elias daydreaming about his past infatuation with Soledad and asked what he was thinking. Elias said it was nothing important.

Arcadio convinced Jose to agree to help out the drug dealers by doing little jobs around camp that wouldn't hurt anybody. Jose said he would keep watching for his chance to escape.

Soledad visited the cave, waking up Luba, who was having a nightmare about a man telling her she would die for what she did. Soledad gave Luba some money, saying she'd received it from Adela, and asked Luba to buy whatever Alina needed.

Alina showed up, greeted Soledad, and had a sudden brainstorm (probably the first one of her life). She said urgently, "This is the moment for us to go! Let's go, Mama! We are going to escape!"

Soledad seemed bewildered, as if the thought of escaping had never crossed her mind. She said, "No, it is impossible for us to reach Puebla alone." She seemed to be searching for excuses, finally coming up with the idea that Alvaro might kill Adela if she escaped. She suggested that Alina escape alone, but Alina said no because if she did, Alvaro might kill Soledad. So they agreed to DO NOTHING, AS USUAL. IDIOTAS!!! For about thirty seconds there, I thought Alina had grown a brain. Oh well.

Soledad then went home and assured Adela that she would never, ever try to escape. I suppose Alvaro might as well throw away his guns and keys because he won't be needing them.

Emilio received a letter from his general telling him to marry Thelma because she was pregnant with his child. He tore it up and told Orlando, "I never received this letter," adding that Thelma's baby wasn't his, "It's a lie to trap me!"

Angel learned about the letter and asked Emilio what he was going to do about Thelma's pregnancy. As usual, Emilio insisted he wouldn't marry Thelma. (Meanwhile Thelma spent the episode, as usual, sitting in her apartment whining to her aunt.)

Orlando returned to the hacienda, very drunk, and told Emilio, "Tonight, Captain, I'm going to be the most envied man" because he would be accompanied to the fair by the beautiful Flor. He added that everyone knew Flor was "the most beautiful flower in Sierra Escondida," even Emilio. For some reason Emilio took this as a grave insult. He said, "Look, if you weren't in such a lamentable state, I would make you swallow your words." Orlando laughed and said, "Do it." Emilio said (I think) that he wouldn't fight Orlando but didn't want him to treat Flor the way he treated other women.

Orlando laughed and said, "Look who's talking, the person who invited her to a party to make fun of her," then went to sleep on the couch. Emilio locked him into the room. Before leaving, Angel put a flower on Orlando's chest, saying, "Here is your little flower."

Emilio said he would leave instructions that no one should let Orlando out of the room, even if he yelled. Angel was pleased until Emilio told him he only did it so he could meet Flor at the fair himself. Angel said to himself, "You're not going out with her. This time I'm going to stop you."

Emilio told his men they were free to go to the fair but couldn't take their guns. He added that he would be taking HIS gun, "Because I am the captain."

Maximo chuckled about Orlando being locked up and assured Emilio no one would let him out because all the servants were going to the fair.

Mariana went to the hospital and learned that her daughter's friend Estrellita had died. She went home and told Malena. Marianita overheard and burst into tears. She asked if she would die, too, and Mariana said no. Later Marianita dreamed Estrellita's ghost visited her and said, "Don't be sad. Heaven is really terrific, and I'm going to be your guardian angel."

Alina put on her pink dress and told Luba she was going to the fair. She asked for her silver heart. At first Luba refused to give it to her, but Alina talked her into it. (Later, however, when Alina and Rosita left the cave together to go to the fair, Alina wasn't wearing the necklace.)

Soledad chatted about her past to Adela, who said Soledad's life was like a movie. Soledad said Alvaro had always been very jealous, but it was that "damn letter" that drove him insane. Adela again said she believed in Soledad's innocence.

Alvaro returned home and questioned Rutilio, who assured him Soledad hadn't gone anywhere in Alvaro's absence. Sergio warned Alvaro not to trust Rutilio.

Angel, coughing, went to the cave and found Luba outside, doing something or another with a basket and a knife. He asked to speak to Flor, saying it was urgent. Luba pointed out that Angel's brother was a cockroach. Angel said, "Emilio isn't bad. He has suffered a lot." They went into the cave and Luba was surprised to discover that Alina wasn't there. (Does the cave have a back exit??)

Angel set out for the fair on his horse, but some animal crossed his path. He was thrown from the horse and it ran off, so he continued toward the fair on foot.

Elsewhere in the woods, Coral was walking alone. She thought she heard an animal howl behind her, and she was right: It was Maximo. He said, "Don't be afraid, I'm not a coyote," then invited her home for drinks. She smilingly agreed.

At the fair, Emilio found Alina standing alone. He told her that Orlando was sick so he'd sent Emilio in his place. Alina said, "I don't want to keep talking to you." Emilio replied, "I can't stand when you look at me with those eyes." Alina said, "Let go of me! You're always holding me with force!" Emilio said, "I don't want to argue with you tonight" and something else I didn't catch, then kissed her. I'm thinking he has a lot in common with that uncle of his.
