El Cuerpo del Deseo, Friday, March. 20 - The end.

Ok, kiddies, this is it. The last episode of Cuerpo.

Salvador is taken to the Donoso house where he seems to have a very reverential attitude to his shoes.

There has been another fight at Gaetana's bar and she loses her license and has to close up shop.

We find out that Rebeca hung her herself in a hotel.

Salvador is a slob and Abigail is horrified at the condition of his room.

He does not want to have a bath.

But he gets one anyway.

When Ángela, Antonio, Simón and Abigail go out to a restaurant to discuss the Salvador situation, they find Valeria playing the piano there.

She and Simón get back together. It is Valeria who realizes what seem perfectly obvious (as Marie Celeste noted) that Salvador is no longer PJ and is the person whose body PJ took over. And that person had a life somewhere else.

Antonio and Simón go to ask Gaetana about Salvador's origins. She didn't even know he was out of the hospital. Apparently, she thought he was in a permanent coma. She sends the guys to Tío Felipe, who is not helpful.

Finally, someone remembers or figures out that Salvador was supposed to have lived in a village called Las Cruces. Antonio asks him and Salvador says that he lives in the country outside the village.

Antonio tells Salvador that they are going to take him home.

Camilo and Lupe say goodbye to Gaetana.
Evaristo comes to make a last effort to win Gaetana. A sad serenata seems to do the trick.

Evaristo braces himself for an attack when Gaetana comes over to him.

But she kisses him instead and says that he isn't bad.

Salvador has a joyous reunion with Cantalicia and Moncho.

Ángela, Antonio and Simón wave goodbye...

and Salvador and his family go off into the sunset. Fin

Capítulo 25

[Univision’s captioning is still hit and miss and Chipmunk dialect is not my strong suit, so any bi-lingual viewers out there feel free to correct my interpretation of events. –Ed.]

As a heartbroken and pensive Eduardo thinks back to Fernanda’s reaction when she first heard that his mother might actually be dead, he laments that now the only thing that binds the two of them together is their terrible pain.

Eddie’s definitely gotten an eyeful today, but hey, the party’s just begun. Any Balls suddenly appears with a drink for Grupo Lactos’ guest of honor and shoves it into Eddie’s hand. Fr/Eddie asks him if the bride ever returned. AB says she’s back at the house but won’t come out right now because she’s still upset at the joke they played on her. Ed laughs with fake amusement at the so-called prank and says, “You mean to say that the person wasn’t really dead?” AB cavalierly answers, “Who knows? It was just one of the employees who left service years ago.” Fr/Ed feigns the same kind of nonchalance. Just then Prissy comes running over and drags AB away with her. There’s something her hubby urgently needs to see.

Up at the main house, Gonzo and Babs continue discussing Sole’s death and the dirty trick with the flowers. He says he noted that Jacinto was acting weird while Fernanda and he were in the carriage right before the ceremony. However, Gonzo tells her that he doesn’t think Jacinto and Gardenia could have done something so contemptible. He decides to go looking for ‘Cinto to get his side of things. Babs says she’s coming too, only she has to refresh her makeup first. While Gonzo goes downstairs to wait for her, the Barbinator smiles back at the mirror triumphantly and touches up her bionic mask.

Apparently Cad made good on his threat to give Errika a lesson she wouldn’t forget. He has beaten Err senseless, literally. (Not that the poor girl wasn’t far from passing out anyway by this point. --Don’t misunderstand. Viewerville, though fondly remembering certain youthful indiscretions regarding a variety of college-era bouts of inebriated bliss in happier circumstances, hopes that in Errika’s case, the girl was too tanked to feel anything—at least as much as that misogynistic miscreant of an SOB was hoping she might.) AB and Prissy find Cad in the back and thankfully out of sight of the guests, and still punching away at poor comatose Errika. They stare in horror at the rotten mess he’s made of things for them. AB pulls Cadmilo off Err and yells at Prissy to try to bring her to and get her up to her bedroom. He pushes Cadmilo back toward the reception area while trying to talk some sense into the b@stard. Prissy tries but can’t seem to get Errika to come to.

Back inside, Fer, Santiago and Aurora return from the gravesite. Nanda yells at her father that Sole has been dead for three days and she wants to know if he knew about it. Gonzo, still oblivious to most of what’s transpiring around him, says no. He tells her she should have a long talk with Babs about the details surrounding Sole’s death, though she doesn’t see the sense in it.

AB gets back to Fr/Eduardo who asks if something is wrong. AB laughs nervously and covers by saying it was nothing important, just women being dramatic. Fr/Ed says it’s been real, but he’s got to head out now because he’s still got a few personal things to attend to. He promises Any Balls to continue their business discussion the following day and tells him to tell the rest of the family good-bye for him. AB watches Fr/Eddie walk off and seemingly deflates.

While Gonzo is arguing with Fernanda up at the main house, Barbinator Barbie sneaks out and takes a detour to the rear drive and gets into the SUV where Lucio and Jacinto are waiting. “Jacinto you’re going to remember this date for the rest of your life. If you love Señorita Fernanda as you say, I’ll give you reason now to adore her,” she says and flashes him an evil smile.

Gonzo goes upstairs looking for Babs so Fernanda can have that mother-daughter chat. Nanda tells Santiago in the meantime that she’s determined to go back into town to find out who sent those flowers and why they wanted to ruin her wedding. Aurora suggests it might be better if she gets her husband to take her to town and the three of them head out back to find Damian.

On the front drive, Eduardo walks toward his car and finds Nanda’s veil lying in the middle of the pavement. He picks it up and then angrily rips it apart, fighting back his tears. (Ok. Ok. I know. Big boys don’t cry; but I got to admit that watching this handsome lunkhead misting up, I couldn’t help from yelling at my t.v. while dear hubby catnapped in the background, how much I’d love to have this hunk of celluloid beefcake crying on my shoulder.) Estev, aka Dewey Duckworth, suddenly rings Eddie on his cell to ask how it went with the wedding. (Note to Hairstylist: Can we please do something with this dude’s top-crop? I mean, the harsh carrot color’s bad enough, but really, every time they put a camera on this guy I feel like he’s got to have a couple of brothers somewhere named Huey and Louie…) Eddie starts to lose it here. He tells Dewey that being at Fernanda’s wedding was his worst nightmare and that he proved to himself the Elizaldes are human scum.

Estev commiserates with his BFF (best foreign friend) in his best, flatly accented Spanglo and tells Eduardo to stay strong, to see this thing through to the end, for the sake of justice —and to remember that he’s always there for him. Ed clicks off and finally mans up. As he gets into his car he notices Prissy shutting the rear door of Errika’s car and walking quickly away towards the garden.

At the same time, Fernanda and Co. find Damnian out back. She calls him over to tell him that her nana not only is dead but that she died three days ago! Dam acts like shut-my-mouth! impactado. However, when she tells him she’s going back to town to find out about the flowers and the burial and says she wants him to go with her, Dam asks why now when they’ve still got guests there? (Naw, Wrong answer, oh Newly-Married-Male-One: everybody knows that once the booze starts flowing, the tapas are tasty and toes start tapping, the bride and groom are the last thing wedding guests miss.) Nanda cannot believe Damnian’s insensitivity.

Eddie walks over to Errika’s car on a whim and sees her bloody and battered, lying senseless in the back seat of her car.

Out back, Damnian suggests that Fernanda and he stay there a bit longer, cut the cake, and then go together into town. She says nothin’ doin’ and asks him just what’s so hard to understand about the fact that the woman who raised her like her own mother is dead and that she’s in pain over it? Dam just stares stupidly back at her. She loses all patience and says, “So, fine. You can stay with the guests and I’ll go to town myself!” “--What should I tell them if they ask where you are?” She screams back at him. “Tell them the truth! I’m in.dis.posed!” She stomps off in disgust. Santiago, who’s been observing this display of husbandly compassion from the latest cretin to join the Elizalde family, tells his new BIL that while he’s at it to “have several drinks to our health,” before walking off to catch up to his sister and Aurora.

Meanwhile pathetic Gonzo, who always seems like his bell is missing its clapper, is still walking in circles looking for Babs and the others. However, BOW is still in the SUV and has just made ‘Cinto a proposition which he reluctantly accepts. She tells Lucio to watch him like a hawk and warns Jacinto that now that he’s agreed to this, not to even think of trying anything with her. [pasarse de listo = trying to be a wise-ass or being too smart by half]

Anibal walks over now to Damnian and tells him that before he leaves in the morning on his honeymoon that he must have all sorts of financial reports ready to be examined, and if he thinks marrying into the family negates his responsibilities at the company he’s got another think comin’. If Dam doesn’t come up with those reports, AB will throw him out of the company on his miserable ass-ets “—or my name isn’t Anibal Elizalde!” Poor Dam. As if he didn’t have enough on his plate, now Mama walks over for a chat with Sonny. (Cue the violins.) Mama asks Dam what he and AB were discussing. Dam answers wryly that it was just AB giving him a “little wedding present.” Of course, Ursula, being Numero Uno of the Blue-haired Bimbo set, praises the Elizaldes for being such a considerate bunch. He starts to walk off in disgust saying he needs another drink, but Mama grabs Sonny by the arm for some motherly advice. She reminds him to go easy on the liquor because it’s his wedding night and he’s going to need to be “up” for it. [estar en sus cinco sentidos = on your toes] This finally gives Damnian something to smile about: legitimately getting Fernanda into his bed.

On the way into town Aurora asks if Sole had any relatives there. Nanda and Santiago comment that Sole had one son who they kept far away from there. Fer explains that the last they heard he was off in a foreign country completing his education. She clams up and starts thinking to herself what a terrible blow it will be for him, finding out that his mother died.

We beam back to the reception where Cadmilo is literally falling-down drunk. AB tries grabbing for him, but misses. (Ok. Ok. Now who hasn’t been to at least one or two wedding receptions like this one? The real rip-snorters where feisty family members get drunk as skunks, scream insults at each other in front of the guests, then puke and pass out while the band plays on and the guests keep knockin' back the booze cuz, well, hey, it's an open bar and nobody wants to let all that free food and fine liquor go to waste.) Anibal yells at Cad to get up and go sleep it off back at the house as he notices Fr/Ed walking back into the reception just in time to have caught the entire scene. AB suddenly looks like he has just realized he’s in the middle of a dream and standing in front of a crowd with nothing on but a fig leaf. Prissy runs over to him, careful to step around her drunken lout of a BIL who's completely passed out in the middle of the guests, to ask for the keys to Errika’s car so she can take her home. Fr/Ed says there’s something else he needs to discuss. (By now Fr/Eddie has got to be thinking just like the rest of us that trash is trash; and the only thing different about this family’s wedding reception was the cost of the booze and the band.) AB yells over at Prissy to have a couple waiters drag Cadmilo up to his bedroom and races back over to Fr/Ed, surprised and mucho pleased that he’s reappeared. AB asks Fr/Ed to have a drink with him. Fr/Ed looks over his shoulder, frowns at Cadmilo and says “Ok, if it’s just one.”

Now Babs walks back into the house and tells Gonzo that she went looking for Jacinto but couldn’t find him, or Gardenia either for that matter. Gonzo tells her that Fer confirmed Soledad's death and he wants Babs to explain to his daughter why she never bothered to tell her about it. On cue Babs starts the waterworks up again. She tells Gonzo that she’s so frightened that Fernanda will hate her after she tries to explain that she was only complying (sob, hiccup, sob) with Soledad’s last wishes (sob, sob, hiccup) and wanting simply to avoid so much pain so close to her wedding day. Gonzo takes her in his arms to console her as Viewerville gags once again in utter disgust.

Fr/Ed "explains" to Anibal that when he went out to his car his boss in NY called to tell him they’re so impressed with Grupo Lactos that he wants to meet with the owners to discuss finances for some big proposal tomorrow. AB says he’s on track with that. Eddie asks if Damian is able to fly up there for it. Anibal says the guy’s not only the company financial officer, but he’s a member of the family now and that makes things easier for them. So Fr/Eddie asks if the bride might have a problem with this. AB says leave that to him and smiles.

In town, Nanda is impactada to find out from the funeral home director that it that it was ‘Cinto who bought Sole’s coffin, while back at home her daddy orders Lucio to find Jacinto and bring him back to the house immediately for an explanation. Babs reminds him they’ll have to wait for Fernanda to get back and assures him that when Nanda returns, she will explain everything to her as asked.

On the poorer side of town, Silvestre confronts Martina about the money he found in the cookie box.

Fernanda gets back a few minutes later and tells Babs and Daddy that Soledad has been dead three days and that Jacinto was the one who bought the casket for her. She wonders if Jacinto could have written that card. Gonzo says he doesn’t want to jump to conclusions; he wants to wait and hear what Jacinto has to say for himself. Just then ‘Cinto, looking like he’s just been hit in the gut, enters the room.

Back in town across the tracks, Martina lies and says the money was a girlfriend’s who got it from her tanda (neighborhood-style credit union) and she simply asked Martina to hold on to it while she went to the movies with her boyfriend. Martina planned on handing it over to her the next morning. Silvestre says fine, but it’s too dangerous keeping other people’s money like that around the place and smiles dotingly at the wonderful little girl the Good Lord gave him.

We beam back to the main house where Santiago is showing the two waiters who’ve dragged Cadmilo upstairs, to his bedroom. Downstairs, in another part of the house, Fernanda demands the truth from Jacinto about the funeral and why he kept Soledad’s death from her. Jacinto tells her that only he and Margarita attended the burial and answers that no, Eduardo still doesn’t know anything because they tried calling but weren’t able to speak with him. Then Fernanda hands him over the card that came with the bouquet. He swears that he knows nothing about it and certainly never sent it. She asks where Margarita is then. He admits she left him and says he doesn’t know exactly, but he thinks that perhaps she’s staying with her cousin, Floricita. Then Fernanda demands to know why he never thought to inform either her or her father about Sole’s death. Before answering, Cinto takes a minute to think back about Ed telling him that the two of them were going to have to do things La Hiena’s way for the time-being.

In town at Flor’s place, Florecita suggest Margo go looking for Cinto if she’s really so worried about him. Margo is afraid that if she asks him anything he’ll either lie to her again, or if it turns out to be another woman, she won’t be able to face the truth. Then Denia and Flor start arguing over Jacinto’s virtues and vices; then they argue over whether it was actually La Hiena she saw getting’ it on in the backseat with Fernanda’s intended that night. FF>> In the end Margo ignores their grousing and leaves to find Jacinto.

Babs nearly has a heart attack when Jacinto asks to speak with Fernanda alone. Gonzo says fine and drags her away with him. Meanwhile, Nanda complains to ‘Cinto that she had a right to be there during the burial and wonders why he decided to keep it quiet. Jacinto tells Nanda the same story as BOW’s: that it was at Soledad's request, that she made them swear that if she died before Nanda’s wedding, they were not to let her know so that the bad news wouldn’t spoil her wedding day for her. Fer accepts this version and then wants to know if Sole died alone. Cinto lies and says yes, alone. She says she finds it hard to believe that she was buried and her son wasn’t there to witness it. So, then she asks if Barbara knew. Jacinto swallows hard before answering this one.

Outside at the reception again, Santiago mentions to Aurora that Soledad was sad for much of her life because she was separated from her son.

AB now catches up to Prissy and they compare notes. He asks what she did with Cad and she tells him he was taken to his room. She complains about the scene that Cadmilo made and AB says yeah, especially in front of Franco Santoro. However, amazingly enough, the guy still wants to do business with the family. He asks what she did with Errika. Prissy says she had the keys to drive her home, but when she went back to her car she was missing. AB says one of the guests might have taken her home, or perhaps she woke up and got a chauffeur or a taxi for the ride home. Prissy says she’ll make sure and give her a call tomorrow. AB says not to bother, because as soon as she gets up and the booze wears off, the lush will call there begging his brother to come back to her. Sad commentary, this, and Prissy says as much. AB excuses himself and goes off to talk to his father.

Eduardo arrives back home and gently takes Err out of his car. He carries her inside his house and up to a bedroom to put her to bed.

AB tells Babs and Gonzo that it’s necessary for Damian to travel to NYC the next day. He argues with Babs, who refuses to go along with the idea because she thinks it’s wrong to send him up there when he should be on his honeymoon. Any Balls is adamant that the company’s future is more important than any honeymoon. (I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that this guy is spewing this claptrap because he wasn’t exactly able to fully appreciate his own honeymoon –and not because Prissy wasn’t sexy enough or ready and willing.) Fernanda interrupts them to get Babs to join her in the discussion with Jacinto. Jacinto tells Nanda then that yes, her stepmother knew, but only because he didn’t know what else to do but ask her for her advice.

Babs, her eyes filled with crocodile tears and her voice trembling, says Jacinto is telling the truth. The only thing she could think to do at that point was to comply with her nana’s last wishes and that’s exactly what she did. She was the one who gave Jacinto the money to bury her with, but she never counted on that flower arrangement or the note. Fernanda says well if nobody else knew but you, Jacinto, and Margarita then who sent the note? Babs says, like it’s just dawned on her, that only one other person knew: Gardenia! Poor Jacinto is ready to have an aneurysm because he’s just realized that he forgot to mention that little tidbit to Fernanda earlier while they were alone. Nanda tells him to let Gardenia know she wants to speak with her. He says fine and she sends him on his way so she can speak to Babs alone. BOW gives Jacinto a warning look as she shuts the door in his face.

Babs now promises Nanda that she will take it upon herself to find out who it was that ruined the day for her and she will make sure they’re fired. Fer says she doesn’t think it was any of them. Babs meekly asks, “Who was it?”

Said guilty party is at that very moment stoking a fire in his living room and remembering Fernanda flirting with him again and asking if she finally will get to find out what his name is. “Never, Fernanda. You will never learn that behind Franco Santoro’s identity is Eduardo, the man who loves you.”

Once more at the reception, Damian is sharing tragos (a few drinks) and talking with the other good looking mystery man at the wedding, his best buddy, Vladimir. Vlad notices Prissy as she walks by chatting away with a guest. Damnian explains she’s his BIL’s wife, the BIL who eventually will inherit the business. Vlad is definitely interested in Prissy now. He can’t take his eyes off her and asks Damian to introduce him. He does. Any Balls walks over right after and tells Dam he’s got to speak to him right away back at the house. Dam leaves Prissy with Vlad, who starts flirting then offers to get her a drink. Prissy blushes and is suddenly all smiles. (Heck. Can you really blame her?)

Up at the house again, Gonzo and AB inform Dam he’s going to NYC on company business the next morning.

Back at Las Animas, Eddie calls Dewey and tells him that Damian Gallardo will be travelling to NYC to meet with him. Estev promises to keep the jerk so busy with reports that he won’t be able to breathe and congratulates Eduardo on the way that he managed to ruin the newlyweds’ honeymoon. Eduardo says he’s not sure about that since Fernanda just might decide to fly up there with her new husband after all.

Speaking of the Queen of Rome, Fernanda walks out just as Damian says he and she will be leaving in the morning. She assures him that she won’t be traveling anywhere because as of tomorrow she’ll be busy with Soledad’s remains and then demands that Gonzo have Sole’s remains buried in the family crypt.

Las tontas no van #75, Fri 3/20, Hanging on, barely

Lucía is waiting for Candy in her office. She feels like God must hate her – He took her parents, Charlie is infected, and maybe she is too. Candy reminds her that she’s not alone, she has her family.. Luc inserts, “and my Papa Santiago?” Candy offers to be like her mother if Luc is willing. Luc looks at her askance, and Candy corrects, “Okay, your older sister.” Luc likes the sound of that, but they can’t make it official because then Candy would be Santiago’s niece and couldn’t be his novia. Candy tries to deny it but Luc isn’t buying the denial. Luc asks for help from the institute.

In Raúl’s office, Santi has calmed down from his rage, but not by much, and he’s aggravated because Raúl isn’t helping him protect his son.
Raúl: You don't know what Mar can do when she's mad.
Santi: We are.. well, we were like brothers. What happened?
R: Family comes before friends.
S: In case you didn’t notice, my son is your nephew. Isn’t that family?
R: What about my wife?
S: What? (He has no idea what she has to do with this discussion.)
R: I've waited a long time to ask you. I want the truth. Did you do anything with my wife?
S: (Flabbergasted) Yes! In high school she was my girlfriend. Several months after we split, you went with her and married her.
R: Did you sleep with her?
S: You're as crazy as your sister! The shrink should give you a group rate!

At Pat’s hotel, Ali again asks for his help adopting. Pat again points out the insanity of the idea. She tries to use guilt. She reminds him that she helped him when he was deserted and alone (conveniently forgetting why he was alone), and he owes this to her now that she is alone. He finally agrees to help her adopt. Ali allows herself the victor’s smile for only a moment.

Charlie challenges his mom because she hasn’t hugged him since she arrived. PSA about AIDS transmission. Laura wants him to come back to DF, but he’s staying here with his papa, close to Luc. He feels that he is to blame for Lucía’s crisis, but more than that, if she is infected, he wants to spend what’s left of his life with her.

Marissa is getting ugly to Raúl too, pulling out all her sharpest weapons. She accuses him of siding with the enemy, the one who slept with his wife. He didn't care for her baby when she was 15, and he won’t care for this one either.

Luc memory montages meeting Charlie and their time together, and she struggles with whether to call him. She finally calls and he is thrilled to hear from her. She tells him, “I don’t want to die!” (I would have started with, “Nice weather we’re having, isn’t it?”) She pleads, “Why didn’t we protect ourselves?”

Santiago thanks Candy for helping Lucía. At times like this she really needs a mother figure. Candy asks how it’s going with Marissa. He found out from his lawyer that the only thing the law requires is that she has to notify him when the baby is born. Candy encourages Santi to protect his son (next she’ll remind him to breath) and recalls what she heard from Marissa on the wedding day.

He is just boggled that she wants to hurt her own child. He tells her again that he’s doing bad. Mar is nuts, his son in danger, the thing with Lu, and it's been ages since he laughed. You can tell that he’s getting close to the edge. Marissa enters and tries to push him over that edge and she comes darned close to succeeding. She ponders that her baby won't have a father. What a coincidence.
“Candy, you took your baby from his father, didn't you?”
Santi yells, “HOW DARE YOU MESS WITH MY SON??” She speculates that maybe it’s not his son.
He tells her, forcefully, “Like it or not, he’s my son. I'm gonna’ be in his life, I'm gonna’ love him. Whether that suits you or not!”
She tells him the love is dead. His love is trash. She dares him to hit her, and says if he does, she’ll (something), and then she’ll (take from him / get rid of) his son. (It’s hard to tell which one she says.)

Santiago is glaring at Marissa, seething, barely containing his fury. Maybe he should borrow Fr/Ed’s Foster Grants. And Fr/Ed’s tailored jacket and shirt too. Not that Santiago would look any better with them. Rather, that Fr/Ed would look so much better without them!

Candy suggests they get professional help. Mar says the problem is that Candy stole her husband. Santi says Candy didn’t steal nothing. Mar tells him to shut up and die. She lays out his options. “You marry me, you get your son. No marriage, no son. Santi is amazed that she wants to marry him even though all the love is gone. He admits that he once felt something for her, but now “You've managed to destroy EVERYTHING I've ever felt for you, even friendship.” Mar snits back that she didn’t destroy it; he did.

Mar leaves and Santi and Candy stick around, trying to sort it out. Candy says Marissa is acting this way because of pain. Santi admits that he bears part of the blame because he didn’t have the.. PANTS (his mouth says ‘pants’ but his hands suggest something more spherical) to break up with her back when he could have. (It sure took our boy wonder a long time to figure out that fatal flaw!)

Mar fires up the spy cam and snoops on the rest of their conversation. Santi is amazed that she’d hold his son ransom. Of course he wouldn’t go through with it; it’s macabre. He’d have to be as crazy as she is. But he assures her, he will always do anything to protect his child.

In Pat’s office, Arturo is trying to comprehend his son’s crazy decision. Art is sure Ali can’t adopt if they’re separated. Pat, looking quite spiffy in that tie, says it is easier to adopt in certain other countries. Art thinks Ali’s doing this just to get Pat back (Art’s a scumbag, but he’s a cunning scumbag). Pat thinks he owes Ali this. Art wonders if Pat is buying her off with this (See? I told you he’s a scumbag!). Pat rationalizes that it will help a child, it will make Ali happy, and it won’t cost him anything. Pat also believes in the Easter Bunny.

Laura begs Charly to come back to DF with her so she can take care of him, but he’s not willing to be that far from Luc, even if she’s not willing to see him. They cry and hug a lot.

Chava is getting ready for bed, and he asks Candy how Rocío’s dad can also be the dad to Marissa’s baby. Candy starts to explain that the daddy puts the seed into the mommy’s belly. That’s old hat to Chava. What he wants to know is how the daddy puts it there. Candy fumbles a bit, then promises to get a book that they can read together. Pat comes in to give Chava a goodnight kiss and grabs one from Candy too. Chava asks Pat his question, and Pat starts sweating and sputtering. He starts a soccer analogy that doesn’t get him any closer to answering Chava’s question, so Chava keeps trying to bring him back to the main subject. “I want to know about babies, not soccer.”

Donato serves Santiago his evening tea, and suggests that Santi take his cue from one of the knights of the roundtable, King Arthur who was a heroic prince. (I understood about 20% of this conversation. Can anybody explain it to me?) Santi likes the idea, except that (??). Don says Santi could move into the tree house. Isabel comes in and tells Santi that his daughter would like a bedtime story. Santi leaves and Don offers Isabel una taza de te. Isabel would like a te-quila. Doble!

Most little girls are lucky to get a bedtime story from their daddies. Rocío gets an encore of Camil’s Capitan Garfio (Captain Hook) from Peter Pan. One thing you gotta' say for Santiago: he throws himself, body and soul, into everything he does, but most of all into his children.

Alicia and Margarita talk about her adoption plan, baby names, etc.

In the kitchen, Meño is hungry for chisme. He wants to know if Candy is going to accept her husband’s invitation to go away for the weekend. Candy bristles at the word “husband,” but it sounds like she’ll go. Meño pushes as much as he dares.

At breakfast, Jaime is quizzing Rocío on her math. Santiago passes through, distracted. Jaime joins him out on the patio and says he’s worried – Santi doesn’t even pick on him any more. Jaime offers the name of a friend who is a Family Law attorney, and Santi is glad for the support. Isabel is ready to take Roc to school, but Santi says he’ll take her instead. Roc practically levitates when she hears that.

Chayo is looking at her new “attitude,” packaged in a Victoria’s Secret box. Ed dashes in, desperate for her to wash his shirt. He picks up the new duds from the bed, and she swipes them out of his hands. She says, “They were for you, but now they’re for me.” Ed is getting tired of not having a wife-slave to cook and clean for him. Chayo is more than willing to help – she gives him the number of a good housekeeper he can hire.

When Santi takes Roc to school, he sees Pat and Candy drop off Chava, but he stays out of view. He asks Chava why his mama said, “See you tomorrow.” Why, because his parents are going away together. Santi strikes his macho stance as if he doesn’t care. He protesteth too much.

At Marissa’s apartment, over a couple of tequilas, Marissa proposes to Barbara that she dump Candy and make Barbara her partner. Barb doesn’t say anything.

At school, the kids put their heads together to solve Rocío’s problem. Her papa is sad because he doesn’t have a novia, so they should find him one. Chava says it can’t be his mama because his papa is already her novio. But Beto’s mom doesn’t have a novio. Problem solved! When Beto gets home, he asks his mom if she wants to be novia to Roc’s dad. Beto is quite proud of his brilliance.

Note, the following was rough without captions. I made a brave effort, but I’m sure there are errors. Any and all corrections are welcome.

Santiago ushers a new patient into his office. I’ll call her “Rachel” because I didn’t catch her name. Did anyone else? Santi tries to call Candy’s cell, but it’s turned off. He starts talking to himself regarding Candy, but Rachel thinks he’s talking to her about her boob job.
Santi: Sí, claro, you have to give yourself the opportunity.
Rachel: Exactly. That’s what I want. A new opportunity. You understand, Doctor.
Santi: Where would they have gone? Where did they go?
Rachel: Well, I guess they sag lower. Or do you mean the old ones? I don’t know where they go. Better to get new ones.
Santi: Hmm. One by one. Alone.
Rachel: No, not one by one. If I’m going to have the operation, I prefer if you do them both at the same time.
Santi: Perdón? What were you saying?
Rachel: What were you saying?
He tries to call Candy again, gets the recording again, looks at Rachel as if she just now sat down, and says, “How are you? What can I do for you?”

Hey! Santiago! That Rachel. She’s some kind of girl, isn’t she? You’ve known her five minutes, and she hasn’t once kicked you or lied to you, she won’t get carried away by a stiff breeze, she’s not neurotic or self-obsessed, she knows what she wants and isn’t fickle, she’s making eyes at you, .. why I’ll bet she even likes Club America! I’m just saying…

At the lake, at the same campsite where Candy took Chava, Pat is hammering tent pegs with a piece of firewood. Note, my Mexican friend tells me that Americans have a different tool for every task, while Mexicans use one tool to do everything. I guess she’s right!

Out in the rowboat, Pat says this is a special place because his life came back to him here. Candy says she’s back in his life, and Pat says only as his friend, not like before. But he loves her completely. He doesn’t know if she loves him, but he has hopes. “Once I asked you in the air, and now I ask you in the water. Marry me.”

Don't you think Santiago and Rachel would make a nice couple?

What is going on with the Univision Captions?

I thought since we are linked from Univision now, a post devoted to the messed up captions might be seen by somebody. I get my recap updates through the bloglines.com site, today I looked at the Caray Caray updates, every single one started with "my captions are still missing/messed up/30 seconds behind." I'm having the same problem as well, so this isn't connected to just one cable company or one part of the country, it has to be from the network.

Univision - what's going on with the captions? Thank you!

MEPS, Thursday, March 19, 2009, The Adventures of Nanda in No Nana Land

Ladies and gentlemen. Good morning and have a great day. Will some kind, smart person out there please post this recap to the sidebar. Thank you.

Also, FYI – I will probably be a better person after this novela is over if the captions continue to have dementia. Meanwhile, I’m wading through it all without my safety net.

Lucio, who thinks he can beat Barb at her own game, is reassuring her of his loyalty, and tells her, he’ll keep his mouth shut – especially not talk to her husband about her “indiscretions.”

Gonzo is looking for somebody.

Barb says – what’s the catch – what do you want. She wants to be absolutely sure she can count on him. What an idiot. Why do these guys all tip their hand to the bad guys. She dangles a house, cows, etc in front of him. Like a fool, he bites the bait. She admits that he’s not as stupid as she had thought. She promises to give him whatever he wants in exchange for his loyalty. He also offers her “friendship.” She sees Gonzo coming and hides behind the limo. Gonzo calls Lucio who steps to the other side of the vehicle to draw Gonzo’s attention away from where Barb is hiding. Gonzo keeps asking Lucio questions and finally asks Lucio if he’s been drinking. Lucio, who’s, acting stupid, says yes, just a little. Gonzo tells him to go home and rest and not to drive.

Barb orders Lucio to do as ordered – look for Jacinto.

Meanwhile, Jacinto is in a cantina drinking more tequila. Martina and friend are getting ready for the night – Martina is worried about Jacinto and her father, who just happens to be at home making coffee. Daddy finds a box that he thinks contains cookies. The cookies are gone, but something is inside the tin. He doesn’t know what it is, and neither do we. Looks like we have another mysterious treasure box.

Back at the wedding, the guests look like they’re having a good time. Damian is still there. Ed is feeding Anibal, Priscilla and Camilo a good line when Erika enters the picture. She’s drunk. Ed gives her a long look and introduces himself – she questions him – you look like someone else, are you sure that is your name. Ed doesn’t like that.

Damian comes over and goes along with a toast to the newlyweds. Erika points out Ed – Erika is smitten with him, and Camila makes an ugly face, no, wait, that is his face.

Nanda, Santi, and Aurora are riding along to the cemetery (Panteon Municipal). But, the gate is locked. A guard comes up to the gate and they plead for entry. The guard can’t understand why someone dressed as a bride wants to visit a cemetery. He then looks up the name of Soledad Cruz in his ledger book, finds her name and tells them Soledad is in the cemetery and provides the exact location. Nanda breaks down – literally heads for the ground. Santi catches her.

Nanda keeps saying – no, it can’t be, it’s not true. The guard shows her the book with Soledad’s name in it. Finally, Nanda cries out, “She’s dead.”

Margarita, Gardenia and Florecita (?) are talking about what Gardenia learned in the hacienda.

Barb’s private phone call is interrupted by Gonzo who wants to know where she’s been. Gonzo wants to call Nanda and tell her what happened because Nanda is destroyed. Barb goes into her very believable crying act and asks forgiveness of Gonzo for provoking this tragedy.

Erika keeps drinking much to the amusement of Damian and Camila. Ed asks what happened to the newlyweds. Anibal, who’s attempting a cover up, says in the house. Erika lets the cat out of bag and says Nanda went somewhere with Santi. She mocks Damian because he’s still here. Ed thinks what a miserable SOB Damian is to have the love of Nanda.

Nanda and Santi still argue. Aurora asks who can see the grave, and Nanda say’s us. The guard tells them about a young man who came to see the deceased. Nanda says, Eduardo, Eduardo. Somewhere along the line Nanda figured out that perhaps Eduardo has returned.

Erika keeps it up, she’s now annoying Camilo and calls him a cheat and liar and says that he’s capable of anything. She calls Ed "Franco"– she’ll call him Franco until she finds out his name – she’s grabs Anibal’s tie and with disgust let’s go of it. They talk of race and she calls Anibal and Camilo street dogs.

The guard also tells Nanda and Santi that a woman also came to the cemetery. He asks if the deceased was family. He wants to know if they are children. He’s not looking for any trouble from heirs. Finally, he opens the gate.

At Las Copetonas, Lucio arrives. He’s pissed off because it’s not been easy finding Jacinto. Then he spots Jacinto’s bike. What joy! Martina comes out to talk to Jacinto but the boss wants her to take care of him. She says he’s not just any old customer. Her friend sidles up to Jacinto and a few words from Martina sends her away.

Barb continues her fake crying to impress Gonzo. She wants to be alone and asks him to attend to their guests. She promises to fix everything. The last thing Gonzo’s thinking about is a party. He’s going to look for Santi. Barb asks him to maybe bring her a cognac. The minute he’s out of the room Barb calls Lucio and wants to know where the Hell is Jacinto. She gives Lucio 15 minutes to bring him forth. Martina tries to run Lucio off. He says he’s looking for Jacinto , not her. As an experienced wrestler, she knocks Lucio down – he pulls off his belt – she gives it right back to him and beats Lucio to the ground. He’s bleeding and getting mad.

Slowly, painfully slowly, Santi, Nanda, Aurora and the guard make their way to Soledad’s grave.

Nanda approaches the grave and cries out for Nana. She clutches the cross marker and cries unconsolably. Aurora and Santi look sad.
Nanda touches the dirt and talks to Soledad. I didn’t think you were here, Nana. Why did God take you away. You’ve been my strength; you’ve been like my mother. You didn’t give me your blessing. Santi puts his arms around her. Nanda is hysterical and asks Soledad’s forgiveness, and says she didn’t know and how much she is going to miss her.

Jacinto keeps pouring more booze. Girlfriend comes in and tells Jacinto that Margarita is outside in a fight. Martina has a knife at Lucio’s throat – the crowd claps – I think they want her to cut his throat. That would probably save him from a more painful ending to be inflicted by Barb. Jacinto comes out and tells her to let go. The boss tells her to quit bothering him, and she backs off. Lucio then tells Jacinto to get in the car and that he will tell Jacinto where they’re going on the way. Ever the obedient slave, Jacinto follows.

The young maid is talking on the phone to the girl (Florecita) at her house where Margarita and Gardenia are hiding. Flor at first she denies that they are there. The maid is looking for Jacinto and finally Florecita says she hasn’t seen him.

Erika is harassing Ed. Camilo pulls her away. She can’t understand how he could have lost a girl. He says, sometimes men are pigs. Some men are rats, cockroaches – garbage. She’s annoying everyone. But, Ed keeps leading her on. Camilo, who is taking all this personally, is trying to pull her away. She, in her sweetest voice tells Ed that he’s sincere.

Priscilla watches with concern and Anibal apologies, but, Ed says he’s amused by Erika.

Barb tells Gonzo that she’s been stupid all these years. She’s loved his children like they were hers. When they married she swore she’d be part of their life like a mother. They’d be a happy family. She accepted the last wish of Soledad. She was wrong – Barb tells Gonzo that Soledad told Jacinto and Margarita that if she died before the wedding, they’d all keep quiet until after the honeymoon. Somebody wants to do them (the Elizaldes)harm. Gonzo asks her if she knows who sent the flowers. Only Jacinto and Margarita and Gardenia knew of Soledad’s death. Barb, like she was struck by lightning, says. “It’s them, they did it.” Gonzo looks dumbfounded. Maybe just dumb.

Those people don’t have a heart, she sobs.

Camilo pulls Erika and threatens her and calls her stupid and tells her to go away and never dare to come back. She looks shocked. That lightning bolt sure gets around.

In his head, Ed replays the scene of Nanda asking for her Nana, getting hysterical, screaming at her family and asking them, “Where’s Nana?” He says to himself, “Now the only thing that unites us is a terrible pain.”

Avances – looks like Barb is back in the driver’s seat, pulling Jacinto’s strings.

Tontas - Thursday 3/19 - Patricio grows up and Alicia grows horns

Tonight it's my turn to have no closed captions, then delayed and missing closed captions, and lots of macroblocking. How annoying! However I was in luck because today our dear Paula mailed her notes of tonight's episode to me which were a big help. Thanks Paula!

Tonight starts where last night left off: Alicia and Patricio are having dinner and the mood is strained. She's enamored and wants to talk about "their" baby. He acts like he's barely hanging in there. She says no importa that you have two sons and are in love with my sis, but I can't adopt a baby alone and I need your help. He is so not on board with this. He doesn't want to be grosero (coarse) but he needs to find his rumbo (course), and she ain't it.

Arturo asks Margarita's forgiveness. She replies she doesn't want to compromise herself, much less for a man. She justs wants his money so she's going for the divorce. Wow, is she on the level? I find her honesty refreshing and I loved seeing Art leave in a huff.

Next morning at the Institute Candy talks to Mili the miracle bobblehead about her (Mili's) life. It's like a telenovela, but in a telenovela you marry the boss or the son of the boss. Mili says her patron is not her patron but her pa... OK, I realize she's talking about the plot of Guapos and I apologize because I never watched it, but I just know the guy she fell for turned out to be her brother, but not really, right? Mili wistfully says she would have liked to marry the son of the boss.

The kids are back in class and Rocio doesn't want to turn in her homework. The pretty maestra grabs it, looks at it, and notes that her homework looks like Chava's handwriting. Chava shakes his head "No" and Rocio is impactada.

Santi and Lalo are in Santi's office watching bandanna guy do bicep curls with Santi's statuary. They congratulate themselves on their successful radio show and discuss that Raul has big plans for them. They'll copy the girls' themes and then contradict them. Great idea guys.

Mili says she loves how Candy's column nails the macho guys. She wants advice...she's married and she doesn't love her husband but rather Alejandro his cousin. Al is Luciana's son and after that it gets complicated and I was completely confused. But hey, her life is a telenovela and you guys already know that.

Gregoria tries to comfort Meño. She heard about Charly's HIV and it's like a bomb in the hand (una bomba en las manos), i.e. a losing battle (I think). Meño wishes it were a bomb in his hand that he could explode away from his son. He says suddenly he feels he's in a film that will soon end and his son will be fine. She holds his hand and he tells her it's the first time she's shown him affection. She reveals that his brother thought of him before he died and forgave him. (Forgave him for what?!? Oh well, she's trying to be sweet and Meño seems cool about it.)

The doorbell interrupts them, it's his ex-wife mean Laura at the door. However, she's come to make up so now she's nice and they agree they have to both be strong for Charly because he needs them.

Candy tells Mili to fight for her love. Of course Candy uses this as an opportunity to butt in and tell her own tale of woe and her rejection of all men until the plastic doctor appeared and showed her how to love again. They are instant best friends when Mili pronounces Candy's sis a traitor. They discover they both love futbol, woot! They bicker good-naturedly about rooting for opposing teams. Mili says she vows to be with Al, who will Candy choose...Santi or Pat?

Break time and it looks like I get next Thursday off for the Premio Lo Nuestro show...Proximo Jueves!

Whew, we get a lighthearted scene where Meño gives his dance lessons to Luciana and Mili. Barb really cuts loose, forms a conga line, the women whoop and bond, and Meño shakes his bootie and forgets his grief for a short while.

Meanwhile Greg and Laura sadly discuss life. Laura says Clemente made Meño marry her and she ended up blaming Meño for everything bad in her life. Greg says he can maybe be blamed for not standing up to Clemente but Meño's a wonderful guy. Laura cries and says she doesn't know anything about AIDS. Greg assures Laura that with proper treatment Charly could live many more years.

Rocio scolds Chava for doing her homework. Hey, he was just trying to help, he says. Well he made it worse because now la maestra's going to her house to accuse her. Beto eats a pastry as big as his head, yum.

Back at the Instituto Sol announces that Luciana is ready to be presented. She looks fantastic with her makeover and blue silk dress. She thanks Candy for helping to teach her that her vocation is no longer to be a rug. Group hug!

Outside the big house Charly gingerly approaches Lucia and tells her Donato let him in. She goes nuts, throws dirt clods at him and screams at him to leave. He says he didn't know he was contagious and he loves her. She pushes him and cries, Vete! Vete! Poor Charly stumbles off in grief. I don't blame her for being angry and scared but Charly was a real man for facing her like that.

Candy rings The Bell and asks Santi how he's doing. He says they need to know the truth but he's afraid. How is...Patricio (makes face and imitates Pat)? He asks does she really think it can work with Pat after what he did at the wedding? She's determined to give it a try but he sighs and tells her it won't work. Candy responds with "me voy", "I'm outta here". That is so Candy.

Isabel and Jaime are having a conference with Rocio's maestra. Isa figures out Rocio's problems started with Mariloca's bad news so she and Jaime give the maestra a brief rundown of Rocio's problems...mom's in NY, dad's wedding was a bust, and her papi's not there because he is worried and involved with his other daughter who has a very delicate sickness. Maestra diagnoses that Rocio is acting out to get her papa's attention.

Now comes the most interesting scene of the evening - Santi visits Pato for a face-off. Pat tells Santi to butt out of his life. Santi cautions Pat against playing with Candy's feelings. Pat retaliates by swearing he's waited years to get Candy back and the last thing he'd do is hurt her. He has the right to fight for her. This sets Santi off on a tirade against Pat, Pat ruined Candy's trust in men, he's worse than Santi's ex-wife, he's using their kid as a link to Candy...

Pat patiently listens and finally tells Santi not to confuse issues, he knows why Santi is upset. It's because he is having a bad time with his daughter. Santi acts like the wind is knocked out of him, how does Pat know about Lucia? He's not happy to hear that Candy told Pat, but Pat is understanding, "Hey, I'm a dad too and not long ago Chava almost died, I know what you're going through." Santi calms down and admits this thing with Candy makes him crazy. And Marissa, she's nuts and won't let Santi see their son, but the thing with Lucia is the worst, she's his daughter. Pat gives Santi a man hug and tells Santi they have their differences but family is family and he's there for Santi, whatever he needs. Poor Santi leaves looking mollified and slightly confused to have found a friend in such an unlikely place.

Double double, toil and trouble...
Al and Mariloca eat potato chips (or is it eye of newt) with hot sauce and brew up their hell broth of a plot, they'll travel together to another country and swap identities. Then Mariloca, as Aliloca, will have the kid so when Al returns home the kid will be her own. Apparently Mari had a friend who did it and it's easy! The brujas snuggle and pinkie-shake on their new fiendship.

Candy gathers the institutas to tell them about Charly. Even though the radio program will be a lot more work she doesn't want to cancel it. Mariloca tiptoes in to eavesdrop. After Candy leaves Loca demands why she wasn't invited on the radio show, it was her idea. Lulu says there are two bosses but the institute was Candy's brainchild. Loca insists on being involved, it's her money and they'd better all hail the queen or their little feet will be in the street.

Lucia coughs in bed, pale wan hands upon the coverlet; she feels muy mal and doesn't want to die. What if Charly infected her? Santi tells her there is a lot of misinformation on the internet. The whole family will support her. Time to fast forward through the PSA about HIV and AIDS...some people live a long time with HIV and don't get AIDS Magic Johnson has had HIV over 15 years, they are making medical advances all the time. Santi gives her a safe, fatherly hug.

Isa and Jaime report to Santi that Loca is responsible for Rocio's bad behavior. Santi explodes and they all agree he needs to calm down. Rocio needs his attention.

Over at the Instituta Mariloca practices her mothering skills. She demands to review all the institutas' work, she pulls the sucker out of Lulu's mouth, and she won't let Sole make personal calls at work. The institutas all agree she's making them pay for what Candy and Santi did to her. Mamaloca breaks them up, pulls the sucker out of Lulus' mouth again and the moment she leaves what does Lulu do? Yep...sucker.

Santi gives Rocio a ride to school and stops the car so they can have a talk. She thinks she's in trouble for her homework but no, dad just wants her to talk to him. Is she sad that Mari won't be her new mama? Rocio admits not really because Chava said Loca has a bad heart and she believes it, but she's bummed because she wanted to take care of her little brother and change his diapers. "Que asco!" teases Santi. Dad said he's sad about it too and he'll do everything so her brother can be with them. (This actress is awesome. When she acts sad her little voice trembles like she's really about to sob.)

Pato shows up at Meño's talk to Charly. Charly blows a fuse when he finds out Pato knows he's HIV positive but Pato gently presses him into a man-to-man talk. Pato has a friend in the DF who has the disease. Pato assures Charly if he takes care of his disease he can live quite well. Charly asks how long did his friend have it before he died? Pato's friend has had it for 11 years. He works, has a girlfriend, and lives a normal life. He gives Charly his telephone number and tells him to call him if he wants. Charly thanks him and they bond.

Downstairs, Meño tells Pat he heard what he said and he's glad Candy's giving him a chance. Pat says he knows Meño was on Santi's side but Meño says no, nobody can tell Candy what to do. Both men agree that the day you touch your child is the day your heart starts.

In desperation Santi visits Raul to confront him about Mariloca. "She's Loca!" he cries in despair. He begs Raul to help him. Raul fidgets, paces, and rubs his face before telling Santi it was his own fault, Mari read the email he sent to Raul. Santi is blown away, she read the email he sent to Raul before the wedding? And she still wanted to continue? Then Candy was right, Mari planned to marry and then abandon him? Raul claims he knows nothing about it and he's loyal to his sister. Santi becomes heated and accuses Raul of knowing much more, and what about his loyalty to his friend and to his own nephew? What about his nephew's safety? Raul wails he can't do a thing. Santi, in a rage, yells "I know you can do much more Raul!"

Mañana: What? Patricio agrees to help Alicia? Que asco!

Doña Bárbara - Thurs., March 19 - The baptism ends in a fight; Marisela gets drunk at the party and briefly decides to take Santos back

First, for Anonymous 5:10 from yesterday, a picture of Santos in his mask.

Los Mondragón demand the right to be at the baptism. Santos accuses DB of planning the whole thing.

Facundo tells Sapo that Gonzalo is from a high ranking family with lots of money but he and his father disagree about politics. Sapo tells Facundo that he wants more information about Gonzalo so that he can work out his strategy for dealing with him.

Eustaquia wakes up and asks Juan Primito to take her to her room and not say anything about what happened to DB.

In response to his accusations, DB tells Santos that she didn't have to tell Los Mondragón about the baptism. Everyone in town knew about it. She asks what she would gain by ruining the celebration. Marisela answers that DB would harm others, which is her specialty. DB says that if her presence in the church bothers everyone so much, she will leave. Santos asks Los Mondragón to leave the church. Leon tells Carmelito that this won't end here. They leave but are waiting outside the church.

Altagracia sees DB talking with Los Mondragón outside the church and says that Santos was right. DB planned the whole thing.

DB tells Los Mondragón not to say a word to anyone about her sending them to the baptism. JP comes running up to tell DB that Eustaquia is very sick.

The church service ends and the priest tells the congregation to go in peace. Melesio says that isn't very likely with Los Mondragón outside. Carmelito seems to think that he has to defend his honor by picking a fight with Leon. They proceed to punch each other while the other men look on and Marisela goes for the police. The women and the babies leave the scene expressing various opinions about the men fighting.

Santos finally stops the fight, the police come and Leon is about to stab Carmelito in the back when Santos intervenes. Once again Leon tells Carmelito that it won't end here and that he won't live to be an old man.

Dr. Arias tells DB that Eustaquia needs complete peace and tranquility. He says that DB needs it, too for her baby to be healthy.

Gervasia is upset with Carmelito and afraid of the threats that Leon made. Carmelito swears that nothing will happen to him.

Marisela and Genoveva are in the anti-fighting camp of the women and they express their displeasure with their men. Casilda tells Pajarote that the punch is too weak (aguado) and is like the kiss of an idiot ('como beso de bobo'). Casilda gets called away and leaves Pajarote to make the punch a little more 'spicy' (picante). Pajarote makes sure the punch is anything but weak with the result that all the women get drunk except Genoveva. The punch releases Marisela's true feelings for Santos but she falls asleep with Santos in a head lock.

Melquiades asks DB how Eustaquia is and DB says that there is no evading the sum of her years. She tells Melquíades how Eustaquia dragged DB away from the sleeping rapists, got her into a canoe and traveled several days to save DB's life. DB says that she still doesn't know how such a small, fragile woman was able to do that. DB says that Eustaquia did it for her. "Thats what mothers do," says Melquíades, "they even give their lives for their children." DB replies that some mothers do that while others destroy the lives of their children. She says that when Eustaquia dies, she will be completely alone with no one who cares for her unconditionally. "You won't be alone," says Melquíades, "You have me, mi doña. You have me and the baby you are expecting and that will make you content, mi doña. He and I will always take care of you. He and I will always adore you, mi doña."

Melesio tells Carmelito to stay away from Los Mondragón.

Meanwhile, back at El Miedo, Leon swears that he will kill Carmelito in various nasty ways. DB overhears and forbids Leon and Tigre from harming anyone at Altamira and orders Melquíades to makes sure her orders are followed.

Marisela wakes up with a hangover. Genoveva gives her a rose and a note from Santos that says, "Today, the morning is pretty and happier, life is beautiful because I woke up with my sunshine at my side. Happy dawn (Feliz amanecer) and remember that I continue to love you and always will. Your Santos." Marisela says that she can't stop loving Santos. She asks Genoveva what would happen if she decided to fight for Santos in spite of everything. If she forgot about morality and decency and returned to live at Altamira. Then she says that she is saying crazy things. She asks Geno what she would do in her place. "Me?" says Geno, "I have a mother who is the worst, who has never cared about me, who has treated me badly for years and years and who stole my hacienda. And I have a man who loves me, who adores me and who tells me the most beautiful things. Let's see, what would I do? Leave the way open for the evilness of my mother to destroy the love of my life or stay with this ripe and precious little mango (manguito)? So it's obvious that you have to stay with Don Santos." "And the baby?" says Marisela, "Have you forgotten that the evil mother is expecting the little mango's baby?" She asks what people will say when they see them together. Geno tells her not to worry about what people say. She should concentrate on what will make her happy. She tells Marisela to get up, get dressed, put on her makeup and go find Santos at the milk processing factory.

DB brings breakfast to Eustaquia. Eustaquia notices that she is all dressed up and says that she hopes DB isn't chasing after Santos. DB says that she isn't. She is just going to show Santos that she can change. She says that she is going to the milk processing factory to give the Cattlemen's Association the money she promised them.

Facundo and Sapo are in the restaurant of the hotel where Gonzalo is having breakfast. Facundo tells Sapo that he has found out that Gonzalo was persecuted by Meléndez, hid at DB's house and is good friends with Santos Luzardo. Sapo says that from a distance it looks to him like Gonzalo likes power.

Santos, Andrés and Cósme are discussing the potential of the milk processing plant when DB comes in and congratulates Santos on his achievement.

Antonio says goodbye to Toñito and tells a hung-over Cecilia that he has to go back to San Fernando to work.

Santos asks what DB is doing there. She says that she has brought her contribution to the construction of the milk processing plant. When Santos doesn't say anything, she says that nothing that she does, good or bad, pleases him. She sees that Marisela has come to the door of the room behind Santos so she embraces Santos telling him what a good father he will be, etc. When she sees Marisela leave, she lets Santos go and leaves herself.

Marisela just makes it to the boat that Antonio and Lucía are taking back to San Fernando. "Let's go!" says Marisela. "Who are we going with?" asks the boatman. "With God and the Virgin," everyone replies.

This is a White winged Swallow.

DB returns to El Miedo. Eustaquia says that she did good by not staying too long with Santos. "No, viejita," says DB sadly, "I didn't do anything good. I must have something really bad inside me, something, dirty, rotten and broken. Something that doesn't let me be good and fair." She says that once again she has broken her daughter's heart. She says that she can't be good if her love is in danger. She asks why they both had to fall in love with the same man.

Santos comes to Altamira looking for Marisela and when Genoveva tells him that she went to the milk processing plant and Carmelito tells him that she has gone back to San Fernando, he realizes that she must have seen him and DB in the clinch.

Back in San Fernando, Marisela asks Gonzalo, "Why can't I love you, Gonzalo? Why?" "It's very easy," replies Gonzalo, "you just have to try, Marisela." "Yes," says Marisela, "I will try. I have to learn to be happy and I will do it with you. I will fall in love with you. Of course I will fall in love with you."

Doña Bárbara - Wed., March 18 - Marisela gets a night visitor; lots of screaming babies get baptized

Of course, it's Santos who has snuck into Marisela's room. He is holding his hand over Marisela's mouth and says that he will only take it away if she promises to talk to him like a civilized person.

He says that he couldn't talk to her that afternoon in front of Gonzalo, the traitor, and he wants to apologize for how he behaved when he got drunk back in Progresso. He apologizes for not realizing that she is a woman who can make her own decisions. He says that he adores her and his life is a hell without her and he knows that she misses him. To all this Marisela can only mumble in reply. Santos can understand some of what she says because he tells her not to say that they can never be together. Finally, he removes his hand from her mouth and says that they can talk like civilized persons.

Antonio and Lucía can hear Marisela yelling at Santos from their bedroom. She asks what right he has to invade her privacy. Antonio tells Lucía that Santos is completely crazy.

Meanwhile DB is waiting for Santos in his hotel room and having flashbacks to when he was madly in love with her. She says that it will be that way again.

Santos says that the only came to apologize and to beg her to return to him. "In what capacity?" asks Marisela, "As the stepmother to my own brother? No. Better. So that our future son is the nephew of his little brother. Because his father got his grandmother pregnant and then his mother." She says that she will be so proud telling people about her beautiful family history. Marisela says that their situation is like that of the Greek king Oedipus who married his mother and had children with her. Marisela says that she feels like she is trapped in a horrible tangle and can't escape. Santos tries to touch her and she pushes him away saying that he disgusts her. Santos says that she is lying. She is afraid of his touch because she might give in to him. He says that he loves her and feels like that the biggest idiot in the world because of what he has done to destroy their relationship. He says that he loves her morning and night. After a pause, Marisela slaps him and tells him to leave her alone.

Antonio says that Santos is crazy and goes to Marisela's room. Santos asks Marisela to tell him if deep in her heart she really wants him out of her life. She is saved from answering by the entrance of Antonio. Antonio tells Santos that he is acting more immature every day. If he is caught sneaking into the Governor's residence, he could go to jail and if Gonzalo finds out, he will go crazy. "Then let him go crazy!" shouts Santos. Antonio hustles him off just as Gonzalo comes out to see what is going on. He knocks on Marisela's door. Lucía comes out and tells him that Marisela woke up with a toothache but she is ok now. Lucía tells Marisela that it is romantic to have two men fighting over her. In response to Lucía's challenge, Marisela admits that she likes what Santos did but she says that it won't do any good.

Antonio tells Santos that he is behaving like a child. Santos says that he should get used to it. This is the true Santos Luzardo and he is going to pursue Marisela until she realizes how happy they can be together. Antonio mentions DB's pregnancy. Santos replies that he doesn't care if people point fingers or cross to the other side of the road when they see him. Santos says that he is tired of lies, especially the lies that he tells himself. Santos asks what Antonio is laughing about. Antonio says that the Doctor Santos Luzardo who returned two years ago has nothing in common with this new Santos he sees "Se te cayó el almidón," (literally, 'you've dropped the starch,') meaning, I guess, that Santos isn't as stuffy and pompous as he was before. Antonio says that he likes the new Santos.

Santos comes back to the hotel and finds DB in his bed.

Antonio goes back to bed and tells Lucía that Santos has changed so much. Now he is like a child. Lucía says no, he is like a man in love. She wishes that Antonio were that much in love with her and asks if Antonio was that way with Cecilia. "You had to bring her up," says Antonio.

DB tells Santos that he has to come back to her. He says that she already knows what he thinks of her. DB repeats that Santos will come back to her because she is only one that really loves him. She says that Marisela left him the first time another man offered her something. DB says that she will never leave him for anyone. She says that he thinks he loves Marisela because she left him but he will forget her soon and come back to DB. Santos tells DB again that what was between them is over and that he will be in love with Marisela forever and it doesn't matter if she never comes back to him. He asks DB to leave.

Gonzalo tells Antonio that he won't go to the meeting of the Cattlemen's Association and that Antonio shouldn't go either.

At the Cattlemen's Association meeting, Santos tells the members that the Acting Governor hasn't shown up or sent a representative so they won't wait any longer. A member says that the new government is not providing any funds to finish the dairy cooperative. In walks DB saying that she wants to become a member of the Association and is ready to invest in their project. Encarnación objects and says that DB is a thief and shouldn't be admitted to their Association. There is a vote and DB wins admittance to the Association by two votes. (Santos votes against her.)

Santos meets Antonio after the meeting. He is annoyed that Gonzalo not only didn't show up but didn't send a message. Antonio says that something urgent came up. Santos doesn't believe him. He says that Gonzalo didn't want to go to the meeting. Santos warns Antonio again to watch out for Gonzalo. He says that Gonzalo will let Antonio down one day the same way he has let Santos down as a friend. Antonio still isn't buying. He says that Santos is jealous because Gonzalo brought Marisela to San Fernando and that when that is over, Santos and Gonzalo will be friends again. Santos denies this. He says that friends don't take advantage of the position to harm someone else. Santos says that he hopes that Antonio never experiences ('toque en carne propria', literally, 'touches his own flesh') what has happened to him.

Santos send Marisela a rose with a card that says, 'I love you today, too.' (Hoy tambien te amo).

Gonzalo gets a telegram saying that he has to go to the Capital for a meeting this week. He wants Marisela to go with him but she says that she has to go to the baptism. Gonzalo accuses her of going to Progresso to see Santos. Gonzalo says that since he can't go with her to the baptism, she shouldn't go. "Too bad," replies Marisela, "If you hadn't noticed, I don't need you."

Back at El Miedo, DB tells Eustaquia that everything went badly and the worst thing is that she no longer has any excuses to see Santos. Eustaquia tells her that the worst thing is that she can't understand that she shouldn't go after Santos any more.

Santos tells Cosme and Andres that Gonzalo has no interest in what is going on in Progresso. He tells them not to count on the investment in a newspaper or construction company that Gonzalo promised. Santos tells them that they will make their projects a reality on their own.

Mujica and Bartolo are both interested in Federica.

Antonio and Marisela talk about how much they miss the folks back in Progresso and are looking forward to the baptism. Marisela says that she misses the terneras, tía Cecilia and the babies. Antonio asks if there isn't someone else she misses. Marisela puts on a sad face and says that she has to go take care of something. Gonzalo is watching.

DB is witness to a fight between Eustaquia and the Mondragons. The result is that Leoncia finds out that Leon fathered a child. A lightbulb goes off in DB's head. She can use Gervasia's baby.

Marisela tells Gonzalo that she has left Progresso to get away from Santos and DB but all her loved ones are there and she isn't going to forget them. She says that she has nothing in San Fernando. Gonzalo asks what is he, chopped liver? Marisela says that he is a friend, a good friend and if he can't accept that, she will quit.

Pajarote is actually going to go down on Genoveva right in the kitchen at Altamira when Santos comes in to tell them that the truck is ready to take them to the baptism. Santos asks what Pajarote is doing on the floor and Genoveva says that Pajarote is looking for an earring she dropped. Santos points out that she is wearing both earrings. "Silly me," says Geno, "I thought I dropped one."

Cecilia is getting ready to go the Church and says that she hopes it doesn't rain. Casilda says that if that happens, she will put a pair of crossed knives on the patio and that will make the rain go away. Cecilia says that she hopes it works because she wants this day to be perfect.

Outside the Church, Melesio says that this is the happiest day of his life because his four 'terneritos' are going to be baptised.

Santos tells Marisela that she is most beautiful woman in all the Arauca.

There are a lot of baby screaming echoing around the church. The priest comes in with DB, dressed demurely in black. Santos asks why she is there since this is a private service. The priest says that DB is studying to be baptised and make her commitment to the church. DB asks to sit in a corner to see the ceremony because her baby will be baptized soon.

Mujica puts Bartolo on a bus saying that he can handle the job of secretary to Pernalete on his own. Bartolo says correctly that Mujica is just getting rid of his rival for Federica. Mujica asks himself if he is just exchanging one loose woman for another.

Eustaquia tells Juan Primito that she is afraid that something bad is going to happen at the baptism because DB took Los Mondragon to the church. Then she passes out.

Sapo's back and in the Capital. His new henchman (Facundo?) points out Gonzalo and says that he has reputation for justice. Sapo says that he doesn't believe in idealistic seekers of justice. He has never met one who wouldn't give up his principles for a big sum of money. He says that he will have to pay a visit to Gonzalo. (Ok, I was wrong about Gonzalo already being involved with Sapo. So we still don't have an explanation of why Gonzalo has turned on his former comrades, Cosme and Andres.)

While Gervasia's baby is being baptized, Leoncia, Leon and Tigre stride into the church. Leoncia demands to see her grandson.

Everyone is impactados.
