Cuando Me Enamoro #147 Tuesday 11/15/11 Roberta Gets Her Groove Back or How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying

Ahoy all, I present to you Lila's first ever recap!! Oh my goodness, it is a masterpiece, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Take it away Lila...

Submitted with humility and even more increased awe of all you recappers by Lila

From yesterday, Gonzo arrives to Empresas Monterrubios to warm applause and greetings.

The elevator bell softly tones and the doors glide open as Hernan Ibarola enters and an eager Roberta runs calling out “wait, please wait!” She dives in, coffee first and christens Hernan with the hot brew. He only hesitates a moment before gallantly taking responsibility for the mishap. With a flourish born of practice, Roberta whips off her sweater and begins to dab at his suit coat. He responds with a gallant gesture of his own, smoothly encircling Roberta as he drapes his own jacket over her bared shoulders. “It’s my first day of work,” she offers, steadily gazing into his eyes as he wraps her in his jacket.

Gonzo is looking mighty sharp for his first day back to work. Adri, Matias and Hono help him settle and structure expectations for the day. Matias firmly but gently states his Dad is to return home after the meeting. Everyone is hopeful for this new stage in Empresas Monterrubio.

Hernan and Roberta exit the elevator chatting. The receptionist, seeing Roberta wearing Hernan’s jacket exclaims “Roberta, what happened?” “I had a small accident” she says, at first looking slightly embarrassed before they both grin. Gonzo, Mat, Adri and Hon meet Roberta and Hernan near the elevator. Gonzo throws Roberta an “Hija?” and confused look as only he can. Hernan asks if Roberta is Hija de Gonzolo, she answers yes. Hernan is surprised. Matias, focused on Roberta’s wearing Hernan’s jacket, asks what happened and Adri echos the question. As Roberta answers, Hernan takes over trying to explain the disrobing and exchange of garments, they both giggle and each claim responsibility as the Gonzo quartet look on more aghast than amused. Gonzo finally breaks the silly spell and reaches out to shake Hernan’s hand in welcome. “Pa, he’s going to work here? asks Roberta. “Not only is he going to work here,” Hon states enthusiastically, Hernan Ibarola is the new Partner in Monterrubio Enterprises!” Roberta’s face beams out the broadest, most sincere and brilliant smile I have ever seen on her – her canine chops dissolve in glee! Roberta is brought out of her private reverie by the offer of a pink sweater by the Receptionist which she graciously accepts. Moments later in the bathroom Roberta is already calculating as she recites her approval of Hernan and his role in EM to her beaming image in the mirror.

Giant 3D letters announce we are back at Hacienda La Bonita. Antonio is having coffee while Manuela stands near. Jero and Renta enter and greet Antonio warmly. Renata accepts Jero’s suggestion that she show Antonio around the Hacienda. After they leave Manuela tells Jero she needs to talk to him, they head for the study as we head over to the new headquarters of passive-aggressive preggo, Maritata. She’s on the phone talking to her Tio’s Nurse who passes the phone to Padre Severino who is still in the hospital. She informs her Tio about the need for complete bed rest and assures him she’s well cared for by a nurse and that there’s even an apprentice Padre in house. [Aww shoot, it was going pretty good then she had to start simpering “Jeronimo, te amo!” to the strains of her supposed-to-be-pity-inducing theme song!]

Manuela updates Jero on the attentive care Marina is receiving from the nurse and then delicately approaches the expected arrival of her granddaughter with anorexia. With all the matrimonial mayhem at Kari and Laz’s she wonders if her nieta can stay at La Bonita? “Por supuesto que sí;, Manuela!” says Jero with a sweep of his hand and a smile. What else did she expect? He takes her hands and assures her it is no problem, she’s welcome for as long as she likes. Carlos limps in apologizing for the interruption.

“Jeronimo, we have a problem we have to resolve”, starts Carlos. Carlos holds up his bandaged hands and says he’s half useless working in the winery lab. “Half useless?” quips Jero, lightening the moment. Carlos has difficulty making the mixtures and stuff for the wine “San Rafael”, he is afraid it will hurt the production schedule. Carlos proposes they contract someone to do his work, at least temporarily. Carlos knows someone, it’s just a matter of a phone call. “No problem, then call,” another problem falls in the dust at Jero’s feet. . .

Antonio and Renata walk arm and arm through the vineyards of La Bonita. The lush sensory palette of the countryside awakens memories of Antonio’s wife. Renata gently expresses surprise. “Yes, I was married and had a daughter but they died in a plane crash.” Renata expresses sympathy. Antonio explains that while it was an extremely difficult time in his life there were also good memories and being here at La Bonita has brought back so many of these sweet and beautiful memories. Regina deftly begins weaving with this touching conversational thread. She said the other day Regina had shown her a picture of her Father, Roberto, and even though she was only a year old or so it triggered incredible memories. Antonio asks what she remembered. Not exactly specific events, but colors and loving gazes and a feeling of being so loved. Antonio offers her a book that helped him and perhaps it can do the same for her, help her remember as a kind of therapy. Renata accepts, looking at Antonio with new eyes. A sweet scene.

Ah, we are ushered back to the former hell hacienda, now undergoing a cleansing by the righteous Regina. [Got any sage, Regina!] Panchita, a matronly maid struggles out with a box of Fina’s clothing, Roberta has told Panchita in no uncertain terms she wants absolutely nothing to do with any of it! Regina instructs her to have the chauffeur take it to the church for charity. Panchita puzzles over a big red box that was in the back of the closet. What is to be done with it? It has baby things and pictures? Regina sends Panchita to make coffee for Gonzo and regards the red box with dread and slowly opens it as we are whisked away to the conference room at Empresas Monterrubio.

Andriana has just completed an introduction to EM for Hernan and Roberta. Hernan congratulates them and shares his enthusiasm to complete the formalities and begin working with them. The nimble-fingered Gonzo relays his welcome via his tablet and a few warm but shaky words. Hernan acknowledges that he is not the only one in the orientation and hopes that since they are both new they can be on the same team. Hon states that they would indeed like Roberta to take some classes as she has never worked, let alone has any knowledge of the import-export business. Roberta makes an awkward joke about being as soaked or drenched (empapar)with informationas they are with coffee. Adriana gives a kind of half amused forced and bordering on horrified smile and Gonzo just looks confused. Roberta smiles.

On to Regina’s Hope where the baby-bewitched Constanza is late for work and Corina, Mom of Amparito is worried, telling Ines she has called Constanza’s cell and not received a response. On cue Constanza walks in and hands Amparito over to Corina. Connie begins to cluck and coo happily over colorful bags of babystuff she bought, nearly oblivious of the Corina and Ines’ astonishment.

Back to Regina opening the red box with a big, apprehensive sigh. . .awwww, the tender and plaintive Regina/Regina Jr. songs swells as Regina brings the cute onesie to her face and then to her heart. She gasps again as she spies a delicate pink crocheted dress. . .then she pulls out a picture of an about 1-year old toddler and calls out lovingly, “Roberta, mi Roberta!” “You were so sweet as a child, but your gaze (mirada) changed. . .” cue menacing staccato strings! “. . .it turned cold. . .surely due to the influence of Pepa.” Regina tries to recover. “But now you’re with me! Now you’re with me! How many moments I lost of your life,” she cries, bitterness creeping back in. Regina tenderly strokes the little face on the photo and hugs it to her heart.

Back to Regina’s Hope. Constanza is holding Amparito again while Corina surveys the baby loot. Ines and Corina share the same puzzled look as they regard the baby-hypnotized Constanza holding Amparito with Madonna-and-child-like serenity. As Corina goes off to class Ines tries to break through the baby after glow. “It’s amazing how a baby’s smile can make you forget everything!” Connie sings. “Connie, you shouldn’t have bought all this stuff!” Ines scolds. “Why not, it’s to help her!” Connie says with a smile. Ines, not smiling: “We just cannot involve ourselves this way with any of the women who come here! We’re trying to teach them to be self-sufficient not shower them with presents or personally take care of their children!” “I know, but don’t worry, Corina is going to learn many things here.” Connie runs off, having forgotten to chop the veggies for the cooking class as Ines just shakes her head.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch (never had a chance to really say that), Carlos is talking to Priscilla about taking his place at LB working in the wine lab.

Next we’re with Kari and Matilde talking to a Lawyer about her divorce which apparently can be finalized almost immediately what with scumbag being locked up. Kari and Matilde are thrilled. She wishes to marry as soon as possible. The Lawyer her to remake (rehacer) her life the right way.

The tour is over back at La Bonita. Antonio offers a toast of admiration and congratulations for the beautiful La Bonita to Jeronimo and Renata who promptly begin to coo and smooch. Antonio announces he will take his leave and Renata offers to take Antonio to the parsonage. More smooching, “Adios Amor!” calls Jero, “Adios Precioso!” answers Renata. A few yards away Lazaro and some of the ranch hands are talking, Jero calls to Laz who comes a-runnin’. He asks Laz is it true he has a little plot of land. . yes, Laz replies, smiling broadly, sombrero in hand. . . it’s tiny but very pretty on the road to Valle de Guadalupe. Jero asks what plans he has for it. . . well, he wants to build Kari and little house, in the meantime he’ll rent and save until he can get it built. Jero el Hermoso, Generoso offers to float him a loan so he can start building right away. Laz trips over his tongue in surprise, expressing his thanks but he doesn’t know when he could repay it. Oh, why don’t you get the figures together, let me know how much it would take to build and I’ll loan you the money and you can take a lifetime repaying it, after all, I owe my life to you. He reminds Lazaro how he saved him during the storm. Lazaro is impactado with gratitude.

Well, there’s been too much sweetness and light in this episode: even Roberta supplied a kind of bumbling comic relief so now it’s time for eeeeevil!!! We’re in Awful Auggie Doggie’s Den with poor Zeke who probably has trembling nalgas. Auggie is asking what’s new with the resurrected Alvaro Nastay. Zeke answers that he’s gone to a maximum security hoozegow. That’s where he should have gone in the first place. But those who helped him (Alvaro) will pay drones Auggie. What do you mean by that, asks Zeke. Since when do I have to give you explanations? growls the Doggie. Tomorrow I will get the shipment that I need for the production of my wine Renacito in Ti. Zeke says he’ll be attentive. I think Doggie says he hopes Arely is like roasting in hell for what she did to him, the ingrate. Maid runs in, says the police are here to talk to Zeke who really gets nervous as the maid is instructed to have the police come in. What’s this about? asks the Doggie. I don’t know Boss, let me go see, “No, no, no, no,” barks Auggie, “wait here.” In comes casually clad police dude who presents the order that he appear to answer questions in the case of Dr. Alvaro Nesme. As Zeke stares into Auggie’s unblinking eyes, we can hear Auggie calculating about the best method of dispatching our poor Zeke as the frantic strings take off in a flight of frightful fancy. . .

Renata and Antonio tool down the road. He shares that he is hip to the Maritata story. . .Renata sighs and tells him how she was taken absolutely by surprise. They commiserate on the difficult tests life puts you through for love.

“Cuidado!” Antonio yells, his beady eyes bulging! Renata slams on the brakes as a motorcyclist swerves and falls onto the ground in slow mo. Antonio jumps out and runs toward the biker who is writhing on the ground, grabbing his right leg. Antonio cautions the biker not to move, Renata jumps out and runs to the biker, too. The biker takes off his helmet and a song begins as if his head were a music box! He tries to stand and the injured leg causes him to collapse in pain but he argues with Renata and Tony that he is fine. He tries to walk but collapses once again and Renata takes charge and insists he needs to see a doctor. Hmmm. . .he kinda looks like a scruffy Chema.

Back to the awful interrogation of our Zeke. . . “And why are they summoning you. . .what do you have to do with Nesme?” “I don’t know Boss, I’m more surprised than you are!” Auggie ain’t buyin’ it. “You were involved in his supposed death!” accuses Auggie. Feel free to fill in here, guys, I missed much of what came out of Auggie’s jutted jaw.

Anibal Quevas is the motorcycle dude, he’s 18, he proudly proclaims, still arguing against going to the Doctor. Renata makes a deal with him that after he gets checked out by a Doc, she’ll take him wherever he wants to go. He reluctantly agrees. Tony promises to take care of his bike as Renata helps him into the car.

Back at La Bonita Carlos brings Jero up to speed on the contracted worker for the winery: Priscilla. Carlos hopes it’s not a problem for Jero that it’s a woman. “For me, no, but for Matilde, you betcha!” Carlos’ common sense is limping as well as he declares that he doesn’t know why Matilde should be jealous since there is no longer anything between him and Priscilla. . .”Was there ever?” questions Jero. “Uh, well,” stammers Carlos, “we were novios. But she’s got great technical skills.” [Yah, I bet.] Uh. Ooooooh.

Kari and Mati come to visit Alfie who promptly curses the Fierro household and environs of the valley by declaring that everything is back to normalidad. Kari restates with conviction what she has learned from her nightmare on Alvaro street, that she must take charge of her life and not leave it to others. [Insert abrupt, random commercial] . .they bring her up to date on the Maritata situation when Zeke bursts in the door announcing and nervously unfolding his citation to appear in the Nesme case tomorrow morning. Zeke credibly declares he doesn’t know why he is being summoned. “Why because you know something!” goes Matilde with a kinda “duh” shrug, “but don’t worry, you’re not the only one they summoned!” “Who else did they call?” asks Zeke. “El Hermoso,” Matilde lightly offers, “he went bright and early in the morning to give his statement!” Drum roll of doom as a sickening realization darkens Zeke’s face.

Back at EM, Hernan, Matias and Roberta stroll together while she gushes excitedly about how expansive EM is, all she’s learning about EM and how she’s going to study and work as hard as she can. Still in galan mode Hernan offers his greater knowledge and experience of import and export business stuff which he will gladly share with Roberta. She accepts Hernan’s offer and marvels that she had no idea that her first day of work could be so incredible – “Estoy feliz!” she exclaims. [Indeed, I really think she is happy. Hard core redemption fans, take note!]

Gonzo seems tired and Hon yawns as they go over EM financial status of the past weeks. Hon lays his fatigue at the cute little feet of Amparito. Gonzo whips out a joke about Hon and Con having a baby on his magic tablet. Hernan-y-Roberta enter with Matias into the light moment. Hernan continues to heap praise on Matt for being such a creative young lion of industry, Matt grins, Gonzo declares his pride. [Hmmm, methinks Hernan praiseth too much] Receptionist announces Regina’s arrival to pick up Gonzo.

Constanza has come out of baby-trance and is holding cooking class with Corina in the kitchen. Corina asks if Ines is angry. “No, she just called my attention to our principles of supporting independence in the women who seek help here without becoming directly involved in their lives.” Corina insists innocently that she likes that she and her baby are treated with such care and concern and it doesn’t bother her one bit if Connie likes to take care of her. . .and Connie can even take care of Amparito without Ines knowing. . .ominous drum roll again as Connie gives Corina an “I get your drift” look.

Loose lips Blanca and Dr. Looneybin talk. Fina is not getting up off more cash unless she begins to see results toward what they asked him to do. What results you talking bout, Blanca? [Need help here, too, what results Fina is looking to see?]

Ensenada at the Dr.’s office: Renata firmly holds Anibal’s left arm, looking away squeamishly while the nurse tends his right leg and cautions him that he will be fine but will have to rest his leg and use (muletas) crutches. Anibal bristles at this. He cannot use crutches and he cannot rest. He has nowhere to stay here, he’s not from here but from Aguascalientes. Renata continues in mother hen, or at least big sister mode demanding to know where Anibal’s parents are and Antonio asks where he was going. He says to Cruz de Amor [Holy Guacamole!] The Nurse goes on about how well known Cruz de Amor and La Bonita are for their beauty and productivity. Renata kinda steers the nurse back to the matter at hand and she repeats her instructions to Anibal that he must not put weight on the leg and most of all he cannot ride his bike! Renata sends the Nurse goes off to get crutches.

Kari and Mati share news of the nearly immediate divorce from scumbag, and then happily trot off as Zeke is waiting. A tense Zeke follows Jero to the study to talk.

Back in Doc’s office Anibal huffs and puffs his frustration as Renata and Tony make small talk before he leaves. Anibal hobbles away on the crutches the Nurse brings and Renata promises to take him to get his bike fixed.

Jero and Zeke talk. Zeke says he’s not worried about what Augustin thinks about him but he is worried Jero will lose confidence in him if he knows of his past. Jero urges him to unburden himself, assuring Zeke that he would never judge him for something he’d done in the past. Zeke maintains his reluctance to make a declaration because he’s done time, he’s got a criminal record and he doesn’t want the townspeople to know.

Renata and Anibal at the repair shop. The bike can be ready in two days. Renata will pick up the cost. As they chat it is revealed that Anibal is related to Augustin, he’s evasive about how.

Zeke is upset and Jero assures him no one will find out about Zeke’s past incarceration from him. [How confident are you with that, Zeke?] Zeke seems a little less agitated.

Renata takes Anibal to Auggie’s. He heartily offers Renata a kiss on the cheek but doesn’t seem to know young Anibal. Anibal announces firmly that his Mother is Hortencia Quevas whom Auggie should know very well, no? Anibal is looking Auggie dead in the eye. Auggie remains cool, admits to knowing her but not seeing her for many years. Anibal is like, yeah, not since you abandoned her in Aguascalientes. Anibal’s Mom does not know he is here. If she knew I was coming she wouldn’t permit it. I came to meet my Father, him, Augustin Dunant. Renata looks at Augustin as Auggie turns ashen gray.

Whew! My recording clipped the preview so feel free to share!

Una Familia Con Suerte #29 Tue 11/15/11 everybody sees Vince in his undies except Pina.

Ana - Freddy is not the sun, he is a fatuous clod. Mama - do you think it's suitable to wear that much mascara in heaven?

Candy sashays into Vince's office and shows Enzo two excellent reasons why Veens is obsessed with her. She tells Vince she is going to Arabia with the sheik. Then (farce alert) Vince leans over and his pants split. Candy has needle and thread, for fixing wardrobe disasters like the one she suffered at the fiesta (she enjoys re-enacting the disaster). He doesn't want to take off his pants but she reminds him she's seen him practically nude (at the massage parlor).

Pancho calls Fer (sadly, she says her treatment will be finished soon - but she hasn't been cured) to tell her what's been going down. "Pancho, I never had the nerve to shut down Pina's show or confront Vincent about his expenses!" "Fer, we are the perfect team - you have the ideas and I execute them." There is foreshadowing about her long-lost son (how can it NOT be Pancho??)

Rebe congratulates Pancho; their hug emits chocolate hearts. She says the execs must be plotting at this very moment and Pancho rushes off...

... towards the continuing silliness in Vince's office. Candy says she'll go with the jeque unless Vince will miss her. He is so aroused he grabs her and they share a mad embrace (Vince in his undies). Pancho rushes in. Double take! Commercial!

While Pancho is yelling, in another part of the building Barbara tells Rebeca she (Barbara) will take Pancho out to celebrate that evening if Rebe won't. The two of them hear the ruckus and run to Vince's office. Sandra too! Pancho keeps yelling. Ana and Lupe are in Monica's office and all three of them come running too! Then Arnolda and Enzo. Monica: Que horror! Vince runs away.

Ignorant of this fine scandalazo, at home, Pina is still moaning and choking down those Bach drops. She's made at Vince for not trying to save her program.

Pancho tells Chela: "They were eating each other with kisses!" Chela gives him the whole low-down on Candy - that she wants revenge but she also likes Veens. Pancho says he knows how to fix all this - he'll send Vince to the hospital. His biggest beef: "That kiss didn't look like vengeance, it looked like a tracheotomy."

Vince wants to get revenge on Pancho through his kids and calls a buddy, Carlitos, who "knows" a lot of "people" and can help with something a little illegal...

Chacho is strangely meditative, he has no appetite, he's mooning over Chela. "Why don't you just tell her how you feel?"

Tomas and Lupita tell Pancho they are together again and that Tomas will never bonk another girl in the back seat again. Pancho forgives him.

Freddy's come to Pancho's house too, telling Pepe: "Don't mess with my girl. She read your ridiculous note to me. Monica is mine, and punching won't change that." Dang, Freddy got the last word. Pepe tells Ana he wanted to break Freddy's snout. Ana's mooning over Freddy, what crummy taste.

Pancho takes donuts around to the employees, who love him even though he can't remember their names. Vince has a thought that involves his bimbo secretary and Pancho.

Pina's visit to Pancho's house interrupts a loud conversation in which Chela yelled "Candy, have you thought how your friend, his wife, will feel when she hears about that kiss?" Pina is so pitiful: "Candy, help me! I'm sure my husband has a lover! He never touches me, not even one kiss." Candy tells her the bum doesn't deserve her, but Pina says she can't live without him. Candy suffers emotional conflict.

Sandra yells at Vince for running around in his underwear. Arnoldo: "Everybody is laughing about this. You have to say it was Candy that seduced you."

Vince would rather take revenge via Pancho's kids! His idea has something to do with the Casa Popular. Lupe gets a phone call that something's wrong. Alex pops up magically and the two of them, plus Ana, head to the old neighborhood.

Cuando Me Enamoro #146 Monday 11/14/11 A Candlelit Love Scene Makes A Hot Club Sandwich with Little Disasters Everywhere Served Up Like So Many Slices of Bread

At the center, Inez has a fit that Constanza is so besotted with this baby. They are supposed to give aid and support to the mothers that come to the center, not take over their responsibilities. But, it’s only for the night that I agreed to keep her, croons C over the baby whose mother has disappeared.

Padre Severino’s house is full, Jero has just carried in Marina to bring her home when Antonio knocks comes in and Jero introduces them. Jero glosses over some problems introducing Antonio as a great friend of Regina’s and Marina is explained as the niece and preggers so staying in her uncles’ house she is having twins. Jero is relieved this holy man will be in the house HE leaves quickly.

Regina and Renata talk on phone and that Regina and Gonzolo are going to have a civil ceremony and will they come. Of course they wouldn’t miss it, says Renata. And how are you doing asks Regina. Last weekend was total chaos, but doesn’t want to take Regina’s time. Regina has all the time in the world for hearing Renata’s problems. They are so that super mother and daughter zone again.

Augie Skypes’ with Roberta that he needs to nail Ezek (really he is trying to be a thorough hacienda owner. She remembers with a sly smile that sexy evening after the fiesta when she so easily seduced a reluctant Ezeke. Augie presses, he doesn’t care what she did, but he needs to know whether he can trust his foreman and he further asks her to present a story to Renata that she was forced into action by Zeke against her will, but was afraid to tell anyone. Renata won’t believe any of it, insists Roberta. Augie pushes that she will if Roberta is convincing enough. He needs to make Renata doubt Ezek’s trustworthiness. She calls him perverse, and grins that she will do it just to show him how much she want to cooperate with him. They grin their wicked grins so well don’t they.

Zeke and Alfonsina dine with anvils on the ceiling that they can’t see. Alfonsina is having another moment of guilt that she betrayed him and will never feel good about her bad wicked deeds. He allows that he is not the saint that she thinks and in the past he did some things that if she knew about his saintly image would fall and break on the floor into pieces. She looks worried about what this might mean. We know at least two stories he is considering. The anvils teeter gently back and forth.

Lazaro and Kari hug and talk about how scared she was. She tells him that she told Alvaro (refer to NOK’s incredible list for your own favorite aliases) that she wanted to be with Lazaro not him. He says, my love you were so brave. He is so proud. She says tomorrow I am going to file for divorce. She only wants to be with hem and he only wants to be with her. They hug tenderly avoiding their bruises and scratches.

Consta comes home with the baby and tells the maid to set up the baby’s things for the night. Hon comes in already wary of the presence of this bundle of not joy. Why is this thing here with you he demands. He is as irritated as I am at the crying. He doesn’t want to lose sleep or work so hard at his age he only would for grandchildren. She says it is only for the night and besides the screaming bundle is hungry; I need to fix her something to eat.

Jero and Renata meet in the living room to catch up on their news and she tells him that Regina called. Gonzo is better and there is to be a civil wedding ceremony which they agree to attend. They cuddle on the couch in a light moment. After all she is his spoiled pet. They dissolve into kisses on the neck and more giggling. Sigh, finally a sweet zone.

Back at the Padre’s house, Marina tells Antonio that Jero is more than just a friend, he is the father of her babies. Antonio visibly jerks. Yes it happened when Jero was separated from Renata and maybe Antonio is shocked enough that he wants her to stay elsewhere? Antonio recovers quickly. He was only surprised, not being judgmental. He assures her that he feels for the difficulty and discomfort of her situation and he understands a lot more than she may think.

Manuela drives in her own little knife. As she finishes serving them a delicious looking dinner she pauses to add she wants to tell them something about Dr. Marina. She wants to be able to care for Marina and feed her well so the twins will be healthy. She only wants to make food for her. Renata retracts visibly then asks, are you going to leave us? No way, protests Manuela, but the twins need to be born in the best health possible. Jero thinks it is a marvy idea. Renata says coldly that she thinks that if the babies need then of course it is the right thing to do. She starts to tell Jero how hard this is for her when worse news come with the maid who brings a note from the police station. Jero is being investigated for his role in the faked death of Alvaro Nesme (drop in NOK alias here). Now he is the one really worried about Augie who seems to be trying to file charges against him.

Jero says he doesn’t know what this will mean. Penal and the prison doctor both involved him and even though voluntarily he did what they wanted. She consoles him, it wasn’t your fault. You need to explain what happened to them. He says, don’t worry. But, Renata lovingly assures him, I am always going to worry about things that concern you. She thinks they sould relax from their complicated day. They will finish their supper and then have baths and they will meet in the bedroom.

Manuela talks with Kari in the kitchen and says she is going to cook for Marina and her other problem is that her granddaughter is still coming any day. She doesn‘t know where she will stay. Kari says she and Lazaro will marry very soon and there will be plenty of room for Manuela’s granddaughter and she is sure that Jero and Renata will be glad to help her out and welcome the young girl.

Renata comes out of the bath and asks what is this to the candles, wine and amorous looking Jero. Well he flirts, we married people and a proven formula is that with wine and kisses and much affection… They begin to kiss and sip wine. She says she was ready to throw in the towel with this Marina and babies business. He holds her on his lap as she tells him that she frequently needs to pray for peace and patience. He says I bet last night was one of those when we nearly threw in the towel and she says well… He offers her a grape and one thing leads to another toward a sensuous love scene behind the candles. Whew. Enjoy the scenery while I catch up with the typing.

A parallel bedroom scene has Constanza giving all her affection and love to this screaming infant and Honorio is less than romantic. She can only see the baby; he has disappeared. Where is she going to sleep? Asks the irritated Hon. In the middle of our bed, of course, so she doesn‘t fall. We have no crib for her. He is aghast, no she can’t be in our bed. She is little and we might roll over on her and crush her. So she says she will go to Matias’ room and he says no I will go there. She doesn’t care as he stomps out. She is talking in baby swoon googoos and says she will care for her and the writers make that baby wail poor old Honorio right out of the room.

Matias and Adriana talk with Chema’s dad to tell him that they cannot continue the farce. She cannot accept the ring while setting him up to think he is marrying her. They have their real life to lead. But Chema’s dad says don’t desert me now. Adri says the real thing Chema needs now are the tests to follow his progress with the illness. Chema’s dad says you aren’t parents yet but a parent wants only to protect their child. Please help me prolong his happiness as long as we can. Doesn’t look like Chema has a prayer of hearing the truth.

Alone in his apartment, Chema toys with the diamond ring he has purchased for Adriana while remembering that first hot kiss they shared. He looks happy for the moment.

Carlos and Matilde are ready to see the house that his Mama has prepared. She lets them in like Nate Berkus doing a reveal and they are thrilled that she actually used their taste to decorate. Carlos thanks his mom and tells her that he really loves her (inspite of all the meddling) and Matilde comes back from another room declaring she likes ALL of it. Mom says let me know about the wedding so I can round up the brothers (with the plural hermanos, there could be a sister in there too) She will be back to help them (ustedes) because now I have a new daughter. That would be me, beams Matilde. Mom has come a long way.

Manuela makes her first food drop and Marina seems in a good mood. Antonio is there telling Manuela in front of Marina that he wants to go to the La Bonita to see Renata with her. Marina promises to stay quietly in bed. Think there are too many smiles? So do I.

Ezeke finds the black soft bag in the back of Augie’s car while he is cleaning it and it is full of perfume tape and a black mask, he remembers something Augie said about his next plan. Why would the boss have these things, this isn’t good, thinks Ezeke. You should run far away now and not look back, thinks CherylNewMex…

Next morning Jero and Renata are at the police station. The officer is questioning Jero, so why did you agree to pretend Nesme wasn’t dead? Jero shrugs. The officer want to hear the story and Jero tells him about the theft of the wine vine branch and Nesme‘s role with Augie. In order to solve this case we need all the information we can get. Was anyone else at all involved in this situation? Jero hesitates and then gives up Ezekial‘s name.

Ezeke brings in the incriminating bag of Augie’s tricks and says I found this bag full of perfume, tape and other abduction toys. Augie screams like a mean older brother, don’t touch my stuff! Ezeke’s quick response was that it didn’t seem like something that would belong to Augie so he opened it unaware of the contents. He then beats a hasty retreat, if you don’t need anything else. Augie mutters that Ezek is more of a thorn all the time. Is he numbering Ezekials’s days as an employee or as a live employee?

Jero and Renata finish up with the officer and he will be in touch and he will continue with the investigation. After they leave and console each other in the hall leaving arm in arm, the officer tells the secretary to call the Cruz hacienda right away to tell them he needs to question Ezequiel Fierro now.

Julieta shows up at Chema’s who is eating with his Dad. She has brought the publicity and menu proofs. He is so excited about the work she did and Dad chimes in that he will help get them printed. They talk about foods and desserts to be served. Chema says this is absolutely all he needs to have all his dreams come true.

Roberta and Regina are at the only bank in Mexico City filling out the paper work to get Roberta (aka Regina Junior) the inheritance from her father’s estate. She urges impatiently, how soon will I get this? The male bank manager with our friendly bank manager woman says it will not take much time but at least two weeks. We have to prove her identity. Regina assures them that she has the DNA proof that they are mother and daughter. The manager has Roberta sign and then casually has her drop her finger prints on a page saying this is all the signing they will need. Roberta happily chats that she wonders if she will have to change her name, she is so used to Roberta that Regina will seem strange to her. They are so happy this is going well.

Our white gowned girls are at it again. They discuss when the next favors will be granted by the director. Fina tells Blanca with many sneers that Constanza will fall hook, line and sinker for this Trojan baby they paid to be dropped into her life. Blanca questions, will she really fall for it? Fina smiles, I know her. There is no question that it will work. And then she mimes holding a baby. When Blanca tries to touch and coo at said baby, as Fina says and Regina is next. She feigns jealousy in front of the guard.

Gonzolo shows up at work with Matias at his side As he steps out of the elevatorthe whole staff is standing near reception to applaud seeing the boss back. They are ready for the day to start. On the ground floor Hernan steps into the elevator for his first day and a tardy Roberta runs with her hot coffee into the elevator and dashes the well clad Hernan with the entire cup of hot coffee. She looks up at Hernan with her engaging smile. Is it love at first spite? Errrr I mean first sight?

Stay tuned: Roberta’s gaffe isn’t the only collision, looks like Marina is going to go into second trimester whines to get Jero’s attention and Renata and Antonio are skidding in her car toward a collision with a motorbike. Okay, it's over to you LILA. I hope you all turn out tomorrow night to welcome Lila to her first recap night. The first of many we hope.

La Fuerza del Destino #70 Mon 11/14/11 The Galvan Kids Throw Tantrums All Evening Long and Give Celia a Lot to Pray About

Camilo and Antolín talk over beers at a bar. Cam is bent out of shape about Ivan’s expected return and the fact that despite time and tenderness, Lucia will never feel for him what she feels for Ivan. Anto suggests patience. “When we least expect it, life gives us surprises.” Cam is worried that Lucia will go running back to Ivan when he shows up. Anto doesn’t think that will happen. Ivan’s got his life with his wife and son, and Lucia has hers with Cam and their daughter. Plus, Lucia would never separate a child from its father, and that’s Camilo, RIGHT? (Camilo takes a big gulp from his beer in answer.)

Tony calls Dirty PI, who is hanging out with Bob. Dirty PI claims he was out of town the last few days, and that’s why he’s been out of touch. But he had a colleague follow MP, and they reported nothing happened. Tony is livid. How come he didn’t tell him his daughter-in-law has been frequenting the casinos?! They found the gambling chips among her things. Dirty PI tries to play it off. Tony asked him to report if she had a lover, not if she’s gambling. Tony says everything is important, calls Dirty PI incompetent, and says that he’s fired and that he’ll report him to his superiors. He hangs up on him. Dirty PI is ticked and tells Bob what happened before taking off. Bob’s beginning to think MP is a hindrance (estorbo).

At the Ag Association, Lucrezia is telling JJ how she’s been put in charge of Camilo’s experimental crop of cártamo (safflower). Since Lucrezia holds JJ’s opinion higher than God’s, she’s asking him if Camilo is making a smart move by growing it. The government has been pushing the farmers to grow it for some time, it does well in this climate, and it’s used in a lot of things. However, it’s really susceptible to disease. “Well, then it’s a bad idea?” JJ tells her honestly that if, with his cleverness, Camilo finds a way to strengthen the plant, perhaps through crossbreeding, then it could be a very profitable crop. Lucrezia doesn’t like these crazy modern ideas.

JJ changes the topic to more personal business. When is Lucrezia going to tell him why Lucia married Camilo? Lucrezia claims it was love, but JJ notes the VERY premature birth of their daughter. He asks if Camilo married Lucia to cover up that she got knocked up by Ivan. Lucrezia denies. JJ claims he’s discreet. Yeah, so discreet that you blackmailed me for water the last time I told you a secret. Lucrezia is sure that if he had any other useful info he would just blackmail her again. “Nope. The baby is Camilo’s child.” JJ doesn’t believe it. (And neither does anybody else JJ, so how exactly would you blackmail Lucrezia with a secret that isn’t a secret?)

The maids at the McGuire Mexico house are scared to pick up the phone since it hasn’t rung since the patrones left. When they finally answer, Tony tells them he’s coming tomorrow, with Benito and Bruno, but no Ivan and Alex (no one mentioned MP). The maids are excited to fix them some yummy food. Tony then informs Benito that he’s traveling with him to Mexico. Benito is disappointed since he planned on playing Good PI, and following MP while everyone was away. He tells Maria that he wanted to do it for Alex, more than anyone else. He knows that one of them will catch her in the act sometime soon. “That woman is not only a hussy/flirt (coqueta), but also shameless (cíníca)!”

MP pours herself a drink and stalks around her messy gilded cage. “This house is a damn prison.” She picks up her phone and interrupts Bob and Juliet, who are having dinner and wine at home. MP scolds him for turning off his phone. She wants to see him tomorrow and expects him to cancel his other appointment. When his wife comes around the corner, Bob pretends he’s speaking to some guy named Ishmael who wants to play blackjack next week. He hangs up on her and tells Juliet Ishmael sends greetings and kisses. He gets a little too affectionate, raising Juliet’s suspicions.

David is also enjoying wine and dinner with a woman who is not his ex MP. It’s Lucia’s friend who’s had a crush on him for a while. It looks like the feelings are mutual. She tells him he’s all a woman could ask for, after listing his great qualities. Well, not everyone, considering MP dumped him. She knows MP is flighty, but she is a one man kind of woman, like Lucia. David points out that Lucia married Camilo. She is certain that Lucia has never stopped loving Ivan. But she loves him in silence so as not to hurt Camilo. David thinks Cam deserves to be loved for real. She agrees, but brings the conversation back to her and David. In fact, she wants to take the conversation back to her place! David begs off for another day since he’s got so much work the next morning. (Hmm…is our boy ready to take the plunge?)

Benito and Tony prepare to leave, but MP is in an alcohol induced stupor. Tony gives Maria their numbers in Alamos and asks for any reports of funny business from MP. Maria is on it.

Once in Alamos, they are greeted warmly by the maids. Tony says his heart is in two places—his house in L.A. and this one. The maids have kept his return a secret, but David is already in the offices in the other wing of the house. He’s happy to see Tony. Tony gets right to asking why Camilo is quitting. David says it’s up to Camilo to tell him.

At ranch Socorro, Perla is running a fever and crying, and the Curiel women and Camilo are concerned. They decide to take her to the hospital.

David and Tony have still not heard from Camilo and Tony is getting antsy. After Tony exits, the secretary looks at David with concern and says Tony is going to find out everything. David thinks there’s no avoiding it.

Tony is greeted by Cleto at Ranch Socorro. Carly greets him warmly in the living room. They make small talk, but then both admit they didn’t like how their last conversation ended. Tony decides to tell Carly the whole story, so that she won’t judge Ivan harshly. Outside, Lucia, Camilo and Lucrezia return with Perla. They see the car and Benito waiting outside and assume Ivan is inside. Lucia decides they need to just get it done with and enter the house.

Carly explains how hurt she was by what Ivan did, but she understands. Anyway, Lucia has moved on and it’s best that Ivan does too because… She doesn’t get the chance to finish before Lucia, Lucrezia and Camilo walk in with Perla. Greetings all around. “And who is this beautiful little girl?” “She’s our daughter. Camilo and I got married.” (Wow! Tony’s got great game face. He doesn’t even flinch at this news. But he does look at the baby really hard.)

Saul and Gordo look in the shattered fun house mirror in the Meandragon House of Horrors. Saul doesn’t want to go outside with his crutch (muleta) because he doesn’t want people pitying him. But he’s antsy to leave the house. He tries to practice walking without the crutch, but can’t without much effort and pain. Gordo wonders why JJ won’t pay for the last surgeries for his leg. “Because he hates me.” Saul swears he will find a way to get that money. He doesn’t want to be a damn cripple (cojo) the rest of his life! Gordo says he can count on him. After Saul leaves the room, Gordo questions the maid about Judith’s whereabouts and if she has a boyfriend. (Yuck!)

Lucrezia takes the baby to her room and updates Carly on what the doctor said. Perla has an ear infection. Tony wonders why they didn’t tell them about the marriage or baby. Carly says it came as a surprise to them too. But so is love. Tony pretends to buy it, tells Camilo he’ll see him in the office, Carly that they’ll see each other again soon, and congratulates Lucia on her baby and good choice in husband. They all breathe a sigh of relief and Camilo goes off to talk to Tony in Casa McGuire. Lucia gives Carly a big hug.

Camilo tries to convince Tony that he and Lucia love each other, and got involved as soon as Ivan left—Lucia because she wanted to get Ivan out of her heart (un clavo saco otro clavo/one nail drives out another), and he because he really loved her. Tony doesn’t press for any details, but he doesn’t think this should affect their working relationship, nor does he believe Ivan will want the lands back. Camilo thinks Ivan will surely be upset that he married Lucia. Tony believes in the power of their long-standing friendship. Camilo is decided; he’s resigning. Tony has no choice but to accept. He’ll have David prepare the paperwork. They shake on it.

Lucrezia wonders if Tony was mad. Carly tells her that Tony just wished Lucia well for finding a good man. Lucia’s already long face looks twice its length, and she mopes off to her room. Lucrezia, who has no emotional intelligence when it comes to her younger daughter, asks for news of her oldest demon spawn. Tony didn’t tell Carly anything about MP, but he did tell her that Ivan hasn’t forgotten about Lucia, and they know that Lucia hasn’t forgotten Ivan. That might be so, but they both are married to someone else and each have a child. Carly points out that Ivan married for Alex, and Lucia married for Perla. She had hoped that what had happened to her (falling in love with her husband after marriage) would happen to Lucia, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. The big difference is that Lucrezia’s bio-father disappeared off the face of the map, but Ivan is still very present. Lucrezia’s not worried about all that “feelings” stuff. She wants to know if Tony’s going to make them give back the loan. He’s too much of a gentleman, says Carly, but Lurcrezia thinks ALL men are the same.

Tony gives Good PI Benito a mission- find out when Camilo and Lucia got married and when their daughter was born.

Ivan and Alex have some quality father-son time on their boat in the Sea of Cortez. They chat about the marine life they have seen so far and still want to see.

In the kitchen, Benito chats with the maids and gets the gossip on how quickly Perla was born after the wedding. Meanwhile, in his office, Tony is trying to get info out of David. David admits he knew Lucia and Camilo were getting married but made a promise to Camilo not to say anything, more because Lucia didn’t want them to know. Tony asks if the reason Lucia wanted to keep quiet about it is because she was pregnant with Ivan’s child and marrying Camilo for cover. David admits he had the same suspicions, but Camilo denied it. They joke about David not falling for any of his dad’s tricks now that he’s in charge of McGuire Inc. David laughs it off. He knows his dad too well for that.

Alex spots the white limestone cliffs off the boat and says they look like an iced cake (pastel glaceado). Alex wants to call Lucia so that he can share all that he’s seeing. Both Ivan and Alex are sad that they have no phone signal. Ivan wonders if Lucia is thinking of him as he is thinking of her.

Benito is very pleased to report that Lucia and Cam got married a month and a half after they left for L.A., and that the baby was born six months after the wedding. No incubator was needed. The baby left the hospital two days later. Benito’s conclusion—either Lucia was cheating on Ivan, or Lucia had Ivan’s baby and married Cam to cover it up. Tony makes Benito promise not to tell Ivan. “Sí Mister.” Benito has something else to say. He spills the beans about hearing MP speaking to her lover on the phone. He intended to follow her but now he can’t do anything. Tony says he’ll handle it.

Lucia continues to work on her thesis and Cam comes in to check on the baby. He tries to get affectionate, but she doesn’t even look up. Lucia asks how things went with Tony, and he tells her it went well and Tony accepted his resignation. Lucia then slips in a question about how Ivan is doing. Camilo shares his displeasure at the question, but Lucia doesn’t think the question was out of turn. They both want to know how Ivan is, for their own reasons. “Yeah, me because he’s my best friend (amigo de alma), and you because you haven’t been able to forget him.” Camilo storms out.

Antolín is begging Carolina to marry him. (If only she could see the HUNK she is turning down!) She doesn’t want to tie him to a blind woman. It’s not important to Anto, plus they can try another surgery. “He who doesn’t take risks, doesn’t win.” Caro then goes to her next standard excuses—the surgery costs too much and she doesn’t want to leave Gerry alone. Anto is not on board with a living arrangement like Camilo and Lucia have. Caro doesn’t see why they couldn’t live in the house with Gerry since there is plenty of room. Anto wants to get his own house where his princess can reign. Caro points out that she already runs things in the Lomeli house. Anto is not on board with this. He could understand her wanting to stay when Alex was in the house, because he’s a child. But Gerry is a grown man! There are plenty of men who live alone. Anto finally catches on that all of these have been excuses. He thinks it’s a lie that she loves him. She swears she loves him, she just can’t leave Gerry. “Then marry him!” Anto storms out leaving Caro crying on the couch.

Celia is reaming Carmen out. All these months supposedly in school and they haven’t seen any sign of it—no homework or grades. How do they know that she’s really taking classes or just using the money? Carmen tries to bs. These are computer classes, so they wouldn’t see her carrying homework. And by the way, she needs money to buy a computer. Celia wonders what happened to the money her brother gives her as an allowance, and why is she always wearing new clothes? How can she go to school in old rags?! (trapos viejos) Carmen outshouts Celia, and storms out (that makes all three Galvan kids this evening). Celia begs the Virgin for help, just as Camilo sulks into the room. Celia throws in a plea to the Virgin for him too.

David brings the good news to his family that he is now the director of McGuire Inc. Mexico! The Mondragon women cover him with hugs and kisses. JJ says he knew Camilo wouldn’t last, but he always knew David had the right stuff (tamaño/ the size). (Let me take a few seconds to LOL here! He even said it with a straight face!) He knows that he was hard on David, and even doubted him at some point. But now David’s demonstrated to him that he knows what he’s doing. “I’m proud of you.” David thanks him but doesn’t seem to be buying it. JJ sees a perfect partnership forming between him at the Ag Association and David at McGuire Inc. Total Mondragon domination of the region. (Bwahahaha!!) He could become David’s advisor, since he knows SO much and David doesn’t. He sends the women off to paint their nails while he continues to try to scam David. The first order of business that he wants David’s help with, is a big loan from the McGuires for the hydroponics.

Judith and Esther are on the other side of the door hoping that David doesn’t bow to JJ’s pressure. If he does, then Esther swears she’ll divorce JJ. Judith says she’s heard that song before, but Esther never follows through.

Lucia admits to Carly that she thinks she made a mistake marrying Camilo. She thinks she would have been better off as a single mother. “You’re scaring me.” I care for him (lo quiero) and I’m really grateful to him, but I don’t love him. It’s an effort for me to make love to him. And you know why? Because it’s not love (amor). It’s for wifely duty.”

Camilo is having the same discussion with Celia and telling her Lucia is only going through the motions to satisfy him. There’s no passion; no love. Celia thinks that women often need more time. Camilo knows that’s not the case, and with Tony’s return things have just gotten more complicated. Camilo thinks after all this time, she should love him. Celia thinks perhaps the shame of having another man’s baby is part of the problem. Camilo doesn’t think in this day and age that’s a real excuse. But he does know that if Ivan comes back and tries to take Perla and Lucia away from him, he won’t allow it. He swears!

Avances: Benito snaps pictures of MP and Bob in the act. Camilo looks really fine shirtless. Tony tells Carly he knows Perla is Ivan’s baby. We again hear Camilo vow to not allow Ivan to take his women. The announcer says it’s war!

Una Familia Con Suerte #28 Mon 11/14/11 In which Pancho asks El Jeque to sell him a wife.

Candy is on Pina's radio show to talk about the Catgirl escandalazo! Pina sez, "She's such a fogosa (sparky gal) and we are great friends." Candy and Pina work up a great head of steam dissing disloyal husbands: "The man who took off your mask is a bad man!" "He wants to be treated like a king, men like him treat women like rags, humiliate us, ignore us."

Suddenly Pancho shows up: "This program is cancelled forever! Your husband has been charging it to Avon." Pina: "It was ok with Fers." "Do you see 'FERS' here? No! And even Adoracion is being paid by Avon. Even your dog's expenses! The Titanic is going down! It's over!"

Candy is mad: her chance to express herself on the air and be a celebrity is being stifled by her own brother! She and Pina yell that he doesn't love her. Candy: "That's it, I'm going to Arabia!"

Pepe gets Ana to record and burn a cd of a love song for Monica. He sneaks into Monica's office and leaves the cd with a love letter written in crayon: "For my siren, from your king! I love you and will wait as long as I have to." Freddy comes in, reads the letter, and steals it.

Arnold tells Vince "I'm a feminist, I hate men who treat women badly." Pina arrives crying: "He killed my program!" Arnold gives her those strange Bach drops. Vince tells her to go cry someplace else, he has to prepare for his meeting with the Arabs. They leave, Pina wailing: "Arnold, my show is all I have. My baby, Freddy, doesn't pay any attention to me, my husband doesn't give a damn. I have nothing."

Vince yells at the jeque's people. Interpreter: "He just wants to talk with Candy and see if she can be bought or acquired. She is central in this negotiation." Rebe: "Tell him it's absurd." Vince: "Tell him she's cold as the Arctic!" Interpreter: "He says he can warm her up." Jeque: licks his lips, eew.

Pancho arrives. "Tell him we don't sell women, they're not pillows or camels or merchandise." Undeterred, el jeque offers 1.5 million dollars per woman. Candy, arriving and hearing this, faints. Rebe goes for alcohol and meets up with Chela in the hall. Chela says "We're Pancho's women." Rebe thinks that sounds like a harem.

Booze fumes revive Candy, who's delighted that both the jeque and Vince are crazy for her! "Chela, see how important we are? Who else has ever offered so much for us?"

Lupita turns down Alex again but all the kids swarm up and hug him. He offers Lupita a huge house he inherited from his granny for a more deluxe kids' joint. Tomas shows up and hugs Lupa, they've reconciled despite his awful hair.

Pancho: "Let's go on with the meeting. Ali Baba, here in Mexico, our society is based on family. Even if we're poor or lose at football, our families support us. Not God or Allah or Methuselah can separate us. You have a mountain of wives?" Yes, he has (counting) 17. "OK, sell one to me!"

Pancho sends everybody else out of the room. Chela says she's honored by the offer but can't accept, because the children need her... She is so convincing el jeque gets sentimental about his own 43 children and embraces Pancho, sobbing... He'll sign the contract with no further conditions. Pancho and el jeque are best buds!

Pepe asks Monica if she liked the present he left. She didn't get it. Later Freddy pulls out the wrinkled paper he stole from Monica's desk and reads it to her. "Is this naco bothering you? I can sic the police on him..." "No, I can handle him..."

Ana puts on makeup, imagining Freddy's preferences. Then the imaginary Freddy laughs at her. "I am darkness and he is the light!" she dramatically declares. "Nobody likes me the way I am," she complains to her spectral mother. "Very soon you'll have a love that will make you happy, but sometimes we suffer," her mother counsels.

Tomorrow: Pancho catches a pants-challenged Vince embracing Candela in his office!

El Mundo de Telemundo, week of 11/14/11: Discuss amongst yourselves

¡Hola amigos! Como siempre, voy a empezar con mi novela preferida, Las familias sin suerte:

LA CASA DE AL LADO – as of Friday

Who is Anderson Chuncler? --or-- The Trail of the Red Herrings

Earlier this week:

It’s Adolfo!
In Ismael’s hideout, a snapshot of Ismael himself and “Anderson Chuncler” falls out of a copy of La Casa de al Lado.

(Also let’s not forget: it was Ismael who many months earlier was reading And Then There Were None, the Agatha Christie murder mystery that was such an inspiration to our psychos. Could “Leonardo” have secretly been writing his own homage to the Christie classic during the hours he was confined to his room, supposedly motionless?)

No ... wait ... it’s Javier!
We learn of Javier’s secret journals, those green-bound volumes recording, in exhaustive detail, everything about his family and the Condes – rich source material for La Casa. Not only that, he has taken to closeting himself in the study where he consults these journals and writes and writes ... something.

Or ... is it Ignacia? Or Ig’s shrink?
The sequel to La Casa, Condenados, has just appeared. One copy was delivered to the public library and Emilio and Ignacia have begun reading it. They make a troubling discovery: the dedication is a transcript of Ignacia’s recurrent nightmare, the one where she wakes up terrified because someone close to her is about to kill her. You were never faithful to anyone ... not even to yourself. Who knows the dream script? Ignacia does. And so does her psychiatrist, a woman we haven’t seen on camera for a while.

Last night:

Emilio is puzzled by what he has read in Condenados so far. Unlike La Casa, which describes recognizable occurrences in the lives of the Condes, this new book talks about things which have never happened. Maybe, suggests Sebastián, this book is talking about what is going to happen. Uh oh. In the new book there are three siblings. And the oldest sister is going to die...

A sweaty, creepy kind of guy we’ve never seen before tells a black-gloved figure that the first copy of Condenados has been delivered to the library. Now what are they going to do with the other nine copies?

We see a shadowy figure slipping into the Casa Conde (the big house, that is) in the dark of night and leaving another copy on what is now Javier’s desk, next to his copy of La Casa. And we see Javier’s surprise at finding it there in the morning.

And then we get a little jolt which leads us to wonder ... could the writer be the new age nerd, Sebastián?
We see Dr. Reasonable wake up still wearing his street clothes – he seems to have fallen asleep on the couch. And on the table in front of him is a copy of Condenados as well as several notebooks filled with hand-written entries. (The herring trail is pointing to Sebastián. Is he really involved? Interesting. That would make each and every one of Pilar’s suitors evil and/or insane. No exceptions. None.)

Later on at the office Hilda is futzing around her boss’s desk and notices a snapshot of Sebastián with an elderly man (Mr. Chuncler, I presume). Nice picture, she says: Is that you and your dad? Her question appears to make Sebastián squirm.

Let’s check in with the Conde kids:

Carola pulls the old sneak-in-and-pop-up-in-the-backseat-of-the-car trick on Sebastián and persuades him to drive her to her bio-mom Carmen’s place. Carmen agrees to let Carola hide out there for now.

Carola fills Carmen in on Gonzaki – she’s not just suspicious of him, she is certain he’s Iñaki, the worst man in the world, the person behind all her family’s suffering and the person who framed her by planting drugs in her bag.

Against Carmen’s better judgment, Carola puts on a pair of lentes oscuros and a gorra (not exactly an invisible cloak, but they will have to do) and heads out to do some detecting. She has to find proof of Gonzaki’s guilt.

She’s convinced that Ismael’s old girlfriend, Lidia, can help her. You remember -- Lidia’s the one who was run over and nearly died the last time she talked to the Conde girls. Yes, Lidia is back in Miami, she is told by a waitress where the girl used to work; she doesn’t want to be found; and she certainly wants nothing to do with Carola or Ignacia. (And who can blame her? Has anyone been involved with these women and come out unscathed?)

Ignacia accepts Javier’s deal. She agrees to abort her pregnancy if he’ll return the house to Renato. How does she know he’ll do what he promises? She has his word!

Emilio poses for the Silver Boys website. Since he’s wearing a cute little mask over his eyes, no one will recognize him. Right. Meanwhile Yolanda trucks on over to Silver Boys headquarters to see what kind of service the business provides. Unlike innocent Hilda, Yolanda seems to recognize – and be scandalized by -- the product they are selling.

As for the rest of the gang:

Adolfo is off-stage at the moment -- everyone but Mabel and Ignacia thinks he’s dead. Or so it seems.

Gonzaki keeps up the pressure on the cops to hunt down Carola Conde.

The Ghost of Igor Mora keeps up the pressure inside Gonzaki’s head.

Pilar tells Gonzo the move to the new house will have to wait. (As Alex pointed out yesterday, this probably comes as an enormous relief to Gonzaki.)

She is undaunted by Javier’s ever more shameless threats and posturing. She is going forth with her charges of domestic violence against him. Gonzaki helps her prep for her first appearance before the judge. It’s a shame Rebeca can’t testify, says Pilar wistfully – she would have made a compelling witness.

Rebeca is still Javier’s captive – or maybe we should think of her as being in protective custody? He keeps taunting. Her eyes keep haunting. (And I keep hoping that she’s going to pull a “Leonardo” – that she is secretly recovering some mobility and at the right moment will use it to escape.)

And lastly there’s Hilda. She’s going to need a new job since Sebastián’s regular secretary is coming back to work. (Will Hilda leave the flat screen in the office? It’s probably too large for her room in the pensión where we (finally) learn she is living.) Is her glimpse of Sebastián’s snapshot with his “dad” going to have unpleasant consequences?

Una Familia Con Suerte #27 Fri 11/11/11 Unnecessary champagne and hotdog dreams

Corrections/additions in red.

[whatever I missed]
The negotiation is underway. The sheik won't sign the contract unless he can have Chela and Candy. They insist that this is perfectly normal in their country and Pancho's got 24 hours to think about it.

Pancho sighs, "I wouldn't even sell Popeye."

Karina tells Freddy that if he isn't more sensitive about Mónica's feelings, he'll lose her forever.

Pancho calls Chela and Candy at home and tells them not to leave the house or even open the door. Of course he doesn't explain why.

Rebe tells Pancho that not all Arabs are like that. She assures him that the investors are being ridiculous and probably weren't serious about wanting to make a deal. Avon should break off the negotiation entirely. If those guys would try to buy human beings, who knows what they might ask for next.

She apologizes to Pancho for saying such mean things about him and his family when they had organized something so nice. She wants to drink to his "success." Pancho accepts her apology but tells her something he overheard his father say once: "Success has many parents, but failure is an orphan." The ugly things Rebeca said made him really feel alone. They need to be able to count on each another in good times as well as the bad. So, thinks they should drink to his first screwup - but that won't be today. After he leaves, she promises herself that he won't be alone.

Pina tells Candy the pole-dancing didn't work out. Candy says Vince doesn't deserve her anyway. Pina invites Candy to be on her radio show tomorrow. (Chela hasn't even done the show yet!)

Fernanda is at the hospital, wondering how it went with the Arab investors. She thinks Rebe should have more faith in Pancho. She asks the doctor to tell her the test results.

Elena texts the King of Douchebags, er, King of Cups that she's dated lotsa guys with girlfriends before. She tells him she's very discreet and she likes the "danger" (of maybe getting caught). He invites her out for a drink. "And then we'll see what else," she replies flirtatiously.

Vince accuses Pina of bad-mouthing him to the dog. She denies it and asks Adoración to back her up. Ado hesitates, but Vince insists. She not only throws Pina under the bus, but does a very enthusiastic impression of her, with lots of BLEEPs. Vince is muy angry at Pina and they argue some more. Two witnesses tell me that Pina said she and Vince haven't had sex since they got married.

Pancho comes home and explains the situation to the family. Candy is into it. She'll be rich! She's fine with sharing the sheik with the other wives. I think Pancho gets 400 camels in the deal, too. But he is having none of it. Candy complains he doesn't care about her. He says he's protecting them. Group hug.

Elena and Freddy at a bar. He says he's reserved a suite at the hotel. Elena is into it! He asks the hotel clerk for his usual room. It's huge. He offers Elena champagne. (She needs more alcohol like I need more hives.)

Pancho chats with BigBoy and Kojak. Kojak is particularly upset about Chela being part of the deal. Again they nag Pancho that she's in love with him. They warn that she might be feeling rejected - what if Candy convinces Chela to go with her to marry the sheik? (Pancho imagines them belly-dancing for the sheik; being cooled by giant feather fans; meeting and shaking hands with the other wives; being regaled with yummy food and exquisite costume jewelry brought by lusciously handsome male servants; and rejoicing that they won't have to care for children any more.)

Chela and Candy argue. Chela is disgusted that Candy would share a man. Candy thinks she is unique and deserves more from life than she can have here. Chela objects to Candy being treated like merchandise. Chela gives lots of reasons why the arrangement would suck, not the least of which is that Chela would miss her.

Karina warns Mónica that Fred knows something's going on with her. Monica calls Freddy to talk about it. He says he's at Alex's house. I notice the hotel room has a very similar layout (in reverse) as Mónica's. Irrelevant, but it caught my eye. He gets rid of Mónica and and hangs up. He makes out with Elena. She's enthusiastic at first, but when he begins to undress her, she wigs out and takes off. Freddy takes it pretty well, all things considered.

Next morning, Pancho gets a call at home from Lambi/Beto. Tranceti and Iracheta are still spending money that isn't theirs. Chela gives him his lunch and sends him on his way.

Candy's on the Pina Opina show. Pina talks about the Catgirl video and introduces Candy, who will soon be working for Avon herself. They're good friends. Candy meows like the Catgirl. Listening in his car, Vince nearly crashes into that hotdog cart he's been dreaming about. Hmmm. Nothin' Freudian about that.

Next time:
Things happen; people talk.

Cuando Me Enamoro #145 Friday 11/11/11 Doubt Creeps In as Doc Freaks Out and Augie Loses Ground.

Happy Friday, amgios! I'm strapped for time, so I typed this up as I watched tonight. Feel free to correct it, since I'm sure I missed a few things.

From yesterday: Lazaro canvases the countryside in a car while Karina wanders around on foot screaming his name. Nesme is also hot on the trail. Who is going to find Kari first?Jero makes an appointment with Mari's doctor to be sure the twins are doing well. Nata and Jero confront each other about Agustin's murderous tendencies. Augie ordered Zeke to kill Arely because she destroyed his wine crop.

On to the new stuff! Matilde keeps a bed-ridden Marina company. They discuss the terrifying situation with Karina and Lazaro and eventually get around to talking about Jero. Marina is still hopelessly in love with him. There's no other guy like him in the world.

Nata is still unshaken in her faith in Augie. Augie has proof that he is innocent and Nata believes him. Nata had proof of her innocence when Jero was sure she was La Bonita and Jero disbelieved her. She considers this the same situation. They agree to disagree.

Roberta arrives home and tells Gonzo and Regina that she hopes to get the job at the Empresa. Regi plans to organize the paperwork so that Berta will receive her inheritance since her birthday is coming up soon. "I will be your daughter instead of Fina's." Berta thinks. "All she cares about is herself."

Fina confides in Blanca that she is anxious for her daughter to contact her. Blanca is confused since Berta is not actually her daughter. Fina covers by saying she still considers Berta a daughter and needs Berta's help for escape. She thought-bubbles that Berta has to come around soon.

After much shouting and running, Karina and Lazaro find each other! He scoops her up in a loving embrace just as Doctor PleaseDropDead lines up his shot. Too late! The police catch him just in time. Nesme manages to get off a shot that just grazes our lovely couple. The cops cuff Nesme and he spouts off about getting revenge. Lazaro vows he will protect and love Karina forever. Kari tells Doc that she is not the same woman as before. She hates Doc and will be happy with Lazaro. Doc screeches that he will never allow Kari to be happy as long as he is alive.

The police haul Doc off as Karina and Lazaro observe the damage. Laz has a grazed cheek and Karina has bloodied hands but neither of them feel any pain while in each others' arms. Aww!

After much discussion, Matias and Honorio humor Gonzo and invite Berta to work at the Empresa. In a bit of suspiciously specific denial, Berta swears she is not going to fraud the company.

Augie goes to the cops to clear his name and pin all his crimes on Doc Nesme.

Nata asks Manuela to tell her straight about what she knows about Augie. Manuela thinks he is a dangerous, cold-hearted man. Zeke only stays with Augie because he needs the work so badly. Mati and Manuela confirm Jero's story that Augie wanted Arely dead. They both saw hand-shaped bruises on her neck. Nata is floored by this development and asks that the ladies keep mum on the subject.

Jero interrupts the conversation to deliver the good news that Kari and Laz are safe and sound. Marina's doctor arrives and asks to see Jero's wife. After an awkward silence, Jero introduces Nata as his wife and then shows the Doc to Mari's bedroom.

In the centro kitchen, Ines and Constanza chat with the young mother Corina while Connie holds the baby. Corina's boyfriend was a horrible man who raped and beat her. The ladies' hearts melt for her, Connie especially. She offers to teach Corina how to cook and wants to help her and the baby in any way she can.

Gonzo and Regina plan to get married again in a small civil ceremony. Everyone thinks it's a lovely idea.

The nuthouse doctor tells Blanca and Fina he wants more payment for his services.

Julieta warns Adriana that Chema bought an engagement ring for her and plans to propose at the opening of the restaurant. Adri is conflicted over what to do.

The doctor does an ultra-sound on Marina and orders that she be bedridden for the rest of her pregnancy. It is highly probable that the babies are going to be born premature and Mari needs to take every precaution. Jero says he will hire a round the clock nurse and an ambulance to help them.

Karina and Lazaro finally breathe a collective sigh of relief after they arrive back at the hacienda. They tell everyone about their ordeal and are warmly received.

Doc pleads his pathetic case to the police and they throw the book at him.

Adriana tells Matias about what Chema is planning and she wants to go along with it to make his last days happy. Mat asks Adri what she's going to do if Chema doesn't die. Adri doesn't know and decides to talk to Benjamin about it.

Honorio welcomes German to the Empresa.

Karina has no doubt that she wants to divorce Doc as soon as possible. Everyone agrees with her on that front and they leave to have dinner.

Random aside: I get a kick out of the Cartes a Juan Cheerios commercial. The man has a killer smile.

Back to the show, Augie waltzes into the living room to get in Jero's face. He swears that he is not a murderer or a thief.

Berta asks Regina's opinion on what she should wear for her first day at the Empresa. It's a thinly veiled excuse for Berta to go shopping and spend Regi's money. Regi tells Berta that she want to have the legalities of the inheritance worked out ASAP, which makes Berta nervous.

Jero refuses to back down; he is sure that Augie put the hit out on Nesme and Arely. Augie swears that he is as innocent as Nata was when Jero unfairly accused her. He'll prove it! Jero will not budge on his opinion of Augie.

Matilde and Carlos fiddle around in the laboratory. Because she lives under a rock, Carlos's mother only just heard about Doc's rampage. She decides that the only explanation for such craziness is that the hacienda is cursed. She insists that Carlos and Matilde move out. Carlos tells her to knock it off.

Ines gets back to the centro to find Corina gone and Connie preparing a bottle for the baby. Connie agreed to watch baby Amparo for the night. Ines worries that Corina might not come back. They have no real information about this girl and it's against regulations at the centro to become so involved with their clients. Connie has faith that Corina will return and promises it's only for one night.

Augie juts his jaw and seethes over Jero's nerve in accusing him of trying to have Arely killed. "If Jero knows about that, it must mean that Zeke is a traitor." Run, Zeke, run!!

Avances: Nata and Jero get hot and heavy while Augie and Berta plot their next evil move. Alfonsina screams. Matilde and Manuela cry "I can't believe it! What a tragedy!". Oh, no.

La Fuerza del Destino #68-69 Wed 11/09/11 La Fuerza de Resignation Has Many Faces

Recap by Urban Anthropologist

Dios mio, my first double header, so there will not be as much conversation detail. Please provide any missing details. Gracias.

Antes

Maripaz tries, Ivan's not having any. Camilo and Lucia marry while Ivan pines. Lucia's daughter is born.

Nuevo

Hacienda Socorro: Lucrazia carries on about what people are saying that the baby was born only 7 months after the wedding and won't have to spend extra time in the hospital for being premature. Carlota doesn't care; she happily announces to the servants that the baby is healthy and beautiful.

Hospital: Camilo calls Antolin to tell him the happy news; Antolin is at the Lomieli house. Antolin congratulates him. When Gerry mentions the baby's size and weight, Antolin comments on her being early. He asks whom she looks like and Carolina says that babies don't look like anyone yet. Gerry just says the baby is pretty.

Casa Galvan: Little Lichita asks about her new cousin as Carmen tries on earrings and Arcelia helps with Lichita's drawing. Someone's priorities need adjustment.

Lucia's Hospital Room: Lucia thanks Camilo and starts to say that the baby is Ivan's, but Camilo stops her. “This subject is not to be mentioned again. This little girl is my daughter and you are my wife. My woman.” He declares his love for her and they decide to name the baby Perla because she is a jewel fallen into their lives. Camilo states she has made him very happy, but Lucia is about to cry as she kisses the baby.

Casa Mondragon: The family talk about Lucia, with Esther commenting on her morals. JJ stops that one by commenting that the child's paternity is of no importance. David mentions that Saul is getting out of the hospital shortly and needs a place to stay. David can't accommodate his needs and leads the charge to get Saul back into the family home. He lets JJ know that people will think very badly of him if he doesn't allow it. Saul still needs three operations and again they will have to browbeat JJ into paying the bill. David will be head of this family at the end.

Commercial Break leading with promo for the Latin Grammys and an announcement that the sponsor is Popeye's Chicken and an ad for their crawfish combo. Wish I had some right now.

Rancho Socorro, just outside the hacienda: Ezekiel runs inside to announce that Lucia and the baby are home. Lucrazia and Carlota come out to make a fuss over the baby. As they go into Lucia's bedroom Carlota shows off the cradle and other stuff Camilo bought. Lucrazia starts talking about the baptism, but Lucia just wants to rest. Wise girl.

McGuire Mansion: At Ivan's suggestion, Alex calls Gerry to invite him and Carolina on a vacation with them. Gerry has a lot of work, so he doesn't think he can go. Both he and Carolina are still keeping mum about Lucia and Alex ends the conversation in tears. Tony theorizes that Lucia doesn't want anything to do with them anymore because of her pain and that they must respect that.

LA Restaurant: Merry Piece has been gambling, but Julie comments on why she doesn't bring her husband. Merry Piece says he's always working and he's a bore. Julie considers it strange that they haven't met him and why won't MP bring him to dine with them. Merry Piece continues to refuse. Tacky bitch. But Julie is looking suspish. And Bob thinks this is so rich.

Hacienda Socorro, night:L Perla wakes up crying to be fed, interrupting Camilo's attempt at getting amorous. Camilo gets up to rock the baby. Husbands like this don't grow on trees, Lucia.

Hacienda Socorro, morning on the porch: Lucia's friend comes over with gifts. She asks her why David married Merry Piece. Lucia isn't sure other than MP wanted to marry money because David was always so shy with girls. When that didn't work MP later went after Ivan again. Her friend says that things get better all the time with David. Lucia is happy for that. She finally explains that Camilo is a good man and she is content.

But we know that won't last. What will not only last but escalate is our collective hatred of Merry Piece. You have been warned about the next scene.

McGuire Mansion, various rooms: Merry Piece is clearly making a date with Bob on her cell phone as she comes down the stairs. As she hangs up she sees Alex. .

MP (yelling): What are you doing? Listening?
Alex: No. Grandpa went to a business lunch and I was playing.
MP: Did you hear anything I was saying on the cell phone?
Alex: Yes. You are meeting someone at 5 and said “kiss.”
MP (grabbing him by the right arm and left ear): If you open your mouth about this I will leave you [rest is unintelligible but probably horrible].

Bruno comes running in and barks, scaring the crap out of the bitch. Benito is right behind him.

Benito: Bruno, calm down! (grabs the leash)
MP (looking perfectly demonic): This dog is a dangerous animal. Kill him now!
Benito: Nothing happened, Señora. [something blipped out]
MP: In every way this dog is a menace. I'm going to report this to the authorities so they will kill it. They'll take it away.
Alex: No! No! (Maria enters)
Maria: What happened?
Benito: Nothing, Maria. Bruno barked at the señora.
MP: He frightened me. He frightens me. I will see to it that this beast is removed from this house. (exits back toward staircase)
Alex: No, Benito! No! Bruno only wanted to defend me.
Benito: From what?
Alex: My mother grabbed me by the ear.

Ivan and Tony enter. Alex runs to Ivan.

Alex: Papa! Mother wants to get rid of Bruno.
Ivan: Why?
Tony: What happened?
Benito: Nothing. Only that it looked like la señora was hurting Alex.
Alex: She grabbed me by the ear.

As Tony hugs the child Ivan heads to Merry Piece's room of exile, where she has picked up the phone.

MP: This minute I will call the dogcatcher to get rid of that accursed animal!
Maria: But if he's done nothing –
MP (phone to ear while pointing to the door): Get out of here! (Maria exits as Ivan enters)
Ivan: Who are you calling?
MP: Anyone who can protect me from that damned animal!
Ivan: You aren't going to talk to anybody! (takes the phone away and ends the connexion) You hit my son and it's normal for Bruno to protect him.
MP: I wasn't hitting him, just reproaching him. And I have the right because I'm his mother.
Ivan: And why were you reproaching him?
MP: Because he disobeyed me.
Ivan (grabbing her by the elbow): Come with me.
MP: Leave me alone!
Ivan: You're coming with me! (leads her out of the room)

Tony (to Alex, who is sitting on his lap): Don't worry. Nothing is going to happen to Bruno.

We viewers are certainly hoping he's right.

MP: He's going to be sorry because he left his clothes all over the floor.
Alex: That's not true.
Tony: Therefore, what happened?
Alex: Nothing. Nothing happened. (exits)
Ivan (to MP): As I've said before, you raise a hand to my son I will divorce you immediately.
MP: But I have the right to scold him. [regañar]
Ivan: You have no rights over him because this puts an end to it.
MP: But I don't want that dog to go all over the house –
Tony: If Bruno becomes aggressive it's because he's been provoked. Besides, this is my house and my dog. Punto. (Benito is watching this carefully while petting Bruno)
MP: And then I'll go, but I'm taking my son. (exits. Ivan looks concerned)
Tony: Don't worry. [need help with this one]

Alex's Room: Alex skypes Lucia to tell her about what just happened. Ivan gets into camera view and Lucia asks whether something is wrong. Ivan tells her it's about her sister, as usual. Lucia tells him he will resolve it and cuts off the call. Ivan encourages Alex to tell him the details of what just happened with Maripaz.

Commercial Break We need room to breathe after this. Too bad it's not enough time for a shower.

McGuire Mansion, Tony's office: Ivan tells Tony that Alex overheard Maripaz making a date with someone over the phone. Tony asks whether he suspects that she has a lover because if they can prove that he can divorce her and get full custody of Alex. Ivan tells Tony about how cold Lucia was on the skype. When he leaves Tony's office, Tony calls his secretary to request that she find a private investigator.

Hotel Room: Merry Piece isn't so merry during a lovemaking session that looks like it belongs in a film noir rape scene. Only she is the perp as she is on top and grabby.

Merry Piece: You don't know how much I want to send them all to hell. (forcibly kissing him)
Bob: Why don't you get a divorce?
Merry Piece (grabbing his hair): Get a divorce? And end up with no money? I'm not crazy!
Bob: Whoa, whoa! Why not be prepared? He could be hiring a private investigator to find things out and divorce you, and take away your child. It's better, menos mas.
Merry Piece (grabbing him): No. It's the only thing I have in this damn place.
Bob: Listen to me, listen. I have nothing to lose, but you –
Merry Piece (looking loca): What are you saying? That you don't love me?
Bob: I love [quiero] you. Of course I love you! But...

McGuire Mansion, night: Ivan recalls his relationship with Lucia. Flashbacks to earlier stuff. Zzzzz.

McGuire Mansion. morning: The private eye has an unpleasant encounter with Bruno as he talks to Tony about following Maripaz to get something on her. He gives him a photo and explains he wants information as soon as possible. After he has Benito show him out he talks to Bruno, asking him what it was about this guy he didn't like. He hopes for fast results, but he's interested in finding out anything that will enable Ivan to file for divorce.

Hacienda Socorro, Lucia's bedroom: Camilo brings Lucia breakfast in bed. He tells her he is no longer comfortable working for the McGuire company and wants to resign.
.
LA Restaurant: Que casualidad. Mike Hammer is a buddy of Bob's and he is looking to bleed Tony for much dinero. Bob says MP is good in bed, but he isn't interested in risk. They seem to agree.

Hacienda Socorro, Lucia's bedroom: Lucia is OK with Camilo resigning from McGuire and Son but doesn't want him to return the land.

Casa Mondragon: Saul comes over on crutches with burn scars all over his neck (and presumably his chest). El Gordo had brought him over. At least his clothes are clean. He kisses up to Esther, but Judith rolls her eyes. She is many times smarter than her mother.

Commercial Break which includes various program promos.

McGuire Mansion: Alex and Ivan talk about el Mar de Cortes. Ivan assures Alex that Merry Piece will not do anything to Bruno [We're getting more worried by the minute]. Alex calls Lucia on Skype. It interrupts her thesis typing and she hangs up, but with a slightly guilty look on her face.

Rancho Socorro: Lucia and Carlota talk about this. Lucia is sure that Ivan logged in to Alex's account to try to talk to her. Carlota tells her it's time he knew that she is married to Camilo. She then tells her that Ivan and Maripaz have a marital relationship in the hope that this kills her feelings for him. Learn to love Camilo because he deserves it.

“God, why did you allow this?” she asks the empty room.
Porque el corazón no se manda, Abuela. Lo sabes muy bien.

McGuire Mansion: At the pool table, Tony talks on the phone to Hercule Poirot. Who tells him there is nothing to report of the nature he's looking for. He's standing in Bob's office. After he hangs up Bob indicates he's tired of Maripaz's drama and suggests that Sam Spade find her another lover. He expresses doubt that he could.

Rancho Socorro: Lucia wants the baby's baptism limited to the family. Lucrazia gives her the same grief as usual:

Lucrazia: I say we should have a reception.
Lucia: No, mother. I want the church ceremony and a family meal, and that's it. Nobody extra.
Carlota: I agree.
Lucrazia: But, this is an important event. If we don't invite anyone they'll all think we are bankrupt. Because ultimately all our stuff will be known by the masses.
Carlota: What do you expect to gain? After all, our condition isn't what it was.
Lucrazia: But neither are we out in the street. Give me one good reason why we shouldn't celebrate as God orders?
Lucia: Because I would prefer a more discreet event. Besides, I don't want people talking about my personal life and my daughter.
Lucrazia: Ah, I know. Your big fear is that Ivan will find something out.
Carlota: It will be a family party. Punto.
Lucrazia: Very well. Who will be the godparents?
Lucia: You, Grandma, Papa, and Señora Arcelia.
Carlota: That ordinary woman? [corriente]
Lucia: Mama, she is my husband's mother, my mother in law, and my daughter's grandmother. She may be humble but she isn't ordinary

The maid comes out to inform Lucia that the baby is awake. Lucia thanks her and exits with her.

Carlota (concerned expression): Now what's up?
Lucrazia (crying): None of my friends can come. They will all despise me because they'll think we've fallen into disgrace. In other days [this wasn't completely clear]. I'm sure everyone will think that Lucia was pregnant on her wedding day.
Carlota: This isn't important to me.
Lucrazia: But it is.
Carlota: Your father Teodoro and I tried to teach you other values but you always stuck with prejudice and gossip. The presumption of class accomplishes nothing. Look at Ivan and Camilo. They came from the lowest classes and now they are successful, respected, admired. How about Juan Jaime Mondragon? Daughter, you need to look this in the eye. Class is in the spirit, not in names or bank accounts.

Carlota, we love you.

Commercial Break starting with the Latin Grammy promo (again)

Iglesia: The baptism takes place. Little Perla is asleep through the whole thing. Camilo is the proud papa. The Lomielis are present, also David with Lucia's friend.

Casa Mondragon: Esther again goes to bat for Saul getting the surgeries that JJ refuses to pay for. She's only the stepmother but she's more of a parent to Saul than JJ ever was. She finally gets the nerve to tell JJ she is going to divorce him. As usual, he thinks she's crazy, saying her head is empty [hueca]; the new explanation is menopause or Alzheimer's. He's some piece of work.

McGuire offices: Camilo tells David he is going to resign. He's sure that Ivan would fire him otherwise once he knows that Camilo is now married to Lucia and he'd rather avoid the confrontation. David doesn't think Ivan would freak because he couldn't expect Lucia to put herself in mothballs, but Camilo is determined.

Scene ends with Camilo calling Tony to deliver his resignation and to recommend that David be appointed to replace him.

Vocabulary
corriente ordinary, run-of-the-mill
hueca hollow, empty
regañar to scold

Capitulo 69: As the Stomach Turns

My DVR cut out on the second hour and I couldn't get the first four scenes online. Please provide any missing details, if you can stand it. Gracias.

Nuevo

Casa McGuire Billiard Room: Alex runs in to tell Tony some good news about school.

Camilo's Office: Ivan calls to find out about why Camilo is resigning. At his insistence that office work isn't for him and that he is a country boy, Ivan doesn't go for it at first.

Lucia's Bedroom: She's working at her computer and is a bit annoyed when Camilo comes in to kiss her. We find out that they don't have much of a sex life and nothing has happened since Perla was born.

McGuire Mansion: Tony and Ivan talk about the trip to Alamos. Ivan doesn't want MP to go because she would only bring pain to Lucia.

Maripaz' Bedroom: She leaves an endless message for Bob about visiting her family and missing him. Get out of denial, Merry Piece; he's just not that into you. She calls Julie saying she wants investment advice from Bob, but Juliet's not believing this.

Casa Galvan: Camilo talks to his mother about his resignation and Ivan's impending arrival. He confides his fear that Lucia's feelings for Ivan will come rushing back when he gets there because Lucia isn't the sort of woman who easily forgets her feelings. She tries to be reassuring and instill some confidence in him. But her expression at the end of the scene tells us she's apprehensive.

Casa Lomieli: Antolin talks about work and earning enough money to buy a apartment or a house. Carolina doesn't trust JJ and doesn't like that Antolin works for him. Dirty money isn't a good thing. She's more right than she knows.

Juliet's Apartment: Bob comes home saying he had an important case. She tells him that Maripaz called to ask about investments [inversiónes] but she knows better. He has apparently cheated on her before and she threatens him with telling her father if he does it again. It looks like he works for her dad and his future could be hostage to his good behavior. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Lucia's Bedroom: Camilo tells Lucia he's sorry and promises not to be jealous anymore. She tells him she loves him (querer) but she knows as well as we do that she doesn't love him as she loved Ivan. She talks about how a real father is the one who cares for a child and her feelings for him are more mature than what she felt for Ivan. He doesn't believe this any more than we do. We also see that Lucia is mostly lying still and thinking of Mexico (or Ivan) during sex. She has a faraway and guilty look afterward.

Rancho Socorro, in the field; morning: Lucrazia complains to a shirtless Camilo about not having her appropriate responsibilities for the crops. He tells her she can take care of the experimental plants if she consults him on insecticides and listens to what he tells her. She tells him OK, but the plants are delicate and it won't be her fault if anything goes wrong. Abdicating responsibilities as usual.

Park: Carolina sits on a bench when a black-clad JJ approaches. You have been warned.

JJ: Que tal, Señorita Carolina.
Carolina: Who is this?
JJ: Juan Jaime Mondragon. We met at Lucia and Camilos wedding. You don't remember?
Carolina: Well, there were so many people.
JJ (checking out her backside): May I sit here? (sits down)
Carolina: If you wish.

As JJ sits down we notice that Carolina pulls her legs further back in discomfort despite the face that he sits a few inches away from her. He stares into the general direction of her lady parts.

JJ : How is Gerardo?
Carolina: Well.
JJ: You have few words.
Carolina (laughing uncomfortably): Well, when I don't know someone I don't know how to talk to them.
JJ (checking her out again and making a gesture of cupping her face without actually touching it, then checking out her back or backside): What are you doing alone in this area away from home?
Carolina: Well, I didn't come here alone. [something about coming there once a week to meet a friend] I used to come here with Alex, Ivan's son.
JJ: Alex, and how is the boy?
Carolina: Well. I miss him very much.
JJ: I understand he was like a son to you and Gerardo, verdad? And we will miss children.
Carolina: Yes.
JJ: I have three children
Carolina: Yes, I know.
JJ: But they are a disaster. Of the three there isn't one [we assume he is referring to their worth]. I had bad luck with them. Despite attention and affection...
Carolina: How sorry that is... (the bastard is still checking out her arse)

Over on Wall Street the stock price of the Acme Barf Bag Company just skyrocketed.

Hacienda Socorro: Lucrazia – while nervously arranging knickknacks and photos – tries to explain the experimental plants to Carlota, complaining that Camilo is trying to prove she is incompetent. When Carlota tries to explain that Camilo is an expert and things are going well with him in charge, Lucrazia leaves the room. Lucia suggests that perhaps she and Camilo should move out because of the conflicts. Carlota doesn't want that; she wants to be near her great-granddaughter. By the gods, her necklace is a cheap version of what she gave to Lucia on her wedding day.

Commercial Break leading with promos for Familia and MQB.

Casa Lomieli: Rosa is apprehensive about Carolina's encounter with JJ and warns her that he is an evil man. Carolina thinks he is sad and lonely but Rosa is too smart to buy that. She also tells Carolina not to mention this encounter to Antolin because Antolin will do something about it she won't like. He has a bad rep because of what happens to people who get into his way. Carolina certainly is ignoring her earlier instincts about JJ.

McGuire Mansion, various rooms: Maripaz chews Bob out on the phone for his distance, finally begging him to be with her. He warns her that they need to be more discreet because her husband could suspect something. Little does she know that Benito overheard part of this and eavesdropped on the rest. He then tells Maria he heard Merry Piece call another man “mi amor” and that MP is cheating on Ivan. They try to decide how to proceed with this information.

Alex has won a math prize, but Tony reminds him that he didn't do so well in English. Alex gets affectionate with Bruno. When Ivan sends the boy up to wash his hands and pack his suitcase, he and Tony discuss the trip. Tony tells Ivan he needs to confiscate MP's passport. He is swapping his ticket for a flight in a couple of days. We hope he plans to take Bruno with him. When Ivan points out that Tony is going to Alamos to see Carlota, Tony tells him that their last conversation was less than amiable because Carlota was angry about what all this did to Lucia. Ivan points out that he is also suffering, that not a day or night goes by that he doesn't think of Lucia.

Ivan goes upstairs and finds that MP's room is a mess, but perseveres and finds the passport in the nightstand... next to a batch of casino chips, which he brings down to Tony. Tony explains that Philip Marlowe hasn't brought back any reports of lovers or clandestine casinos, but they both speculate on whether the gumshoe is hiding something. Tony points out that when they get back from Mexico they will be all over this.

Commercial Break Now you will need a new barf bag.

Hotel: Merry Piece goes up to her trysting place and Bob tells her about Sam Spade's activity... and Juliet's threat.

MP: Why did you want to meet me here again?
Bob: I have a friend who is a private investigator. He just confirmed my suspicions because your husband's father hired him to follow you.
MP (sitting on the bed and taking off her shades): What?
Bob: Don't worry. What luck that it's a friend of mine who informed me of this great little piece of gossip.
MP (starts to undress him): Then we don't have anything to worry about.
Bob (trying to fight back): Not now, but he can't feed McGuire false information forever. We can't go on much longer because my wife is starting to suspect. (puts his jacket back on) For all we know she could easily hire another detective.
MP (pulling his jacket down again): Juliet? I don't believe it because she's [something that probably means stupid or pathetic]
Bob: Maripaz, I'm sorry, but we have to cut this off.
MP: Are you serious? After everything we meant to each other?
Bob: I have a career, Maripaz, and hopes. I don't want for any reason – (she kisses him forcefully and he pulls away)
MP: I'm not giving you up. You please me. (turns him around and forces him back onto the bed. He relieves himself of the jacket and she straddles him) You are the only good thing that's happened to me in this damned city. Let's forget about these problems and enjoy ourselves.

He fights back to sit up and she slaps his face lightly with both hands as she tackles him.

Hacienda Socorro: Lucia and Carlota talk in the Portrait Room. Carlota tells Lucia that Ivan will arrive in a day or so. Lucia doesn't want to see him; she admits she still loves Ivan as she did before. Carlota reminds her that Ivan has a marital relationship with Merry Piece and that Lucia is married to Camilo, who loves her. Maripaz married Ivan for money and Lucia married Camilo out of affection. That is the difference between them. Maripaz is evil and it is a weak man who has sexual relations with a woman that perverse.

Commercial Break

Lucia's Bedroom, night: Camilo confides in her about the fight that forced Ivan to leave Mexico. He and Antolin just happened to get there. We get a flashback of the scene and Antolin opening his switchblade knife and stabbing the guy in the back Camilo punched another one out.. Neither Ivan nor he killed the guy and Lucia correctly concludes that it was Antolin who did it but wouldn't admit to it. Camilo took the heat, saying he killed this guy defending Ivan. He encouraged Ivan to get out of Mexico and Camilo kept quiet to protect Antolin. There was no investigation. He has never felt right about any of this. Lucia looks worried.

McGuire Mansion: Ivan packs for the trip and locks up MP's passport. He stops in her room to tell her they're leaving and doesn't she want to say goodbye to her son? She says “To hell with them and that dog, too.” We notice that there is a liquor bottle and a glass on the nightstand.

The Wicked Witch of the West has spoken as she turns away and goes back to sleep. Torches and pitchforks, anyone?

Rancho Socorro: Lucia and the baby visit Camilo in the field. They sit down to lunch after looking at the perfect field of whatever crop. They're under an overhead vine rack Camilo built for shade so Lucia and the baby can visit him at work.

Commercial Break

Rancho Socorro: Lucia explains that her thesis is going well. All is well until she tells Camilo that Ivan will be arriving soon. She asks him not to bring Ivan to the ranch. He realizes she still loves him.

Ag Ass Office, outside: Lucrazia bumps into Antolin. It almost looks like she is about to flirt with him, but she wants to make sure that JJ doesn't find out about his role in the delivery of the blackmail money. He assures her that she doesn't need to worry because they're family since Camilo is married to Lucia. Family is sacred to him. She still looks apprehensive as he departs.

McGuire Mansion: Tony bids hasta la vista to Ivan and Alex. He has Bruno by his side. Alex tells Bruno to stay away from Maripaz.

That's three comments about Bruno's safety. I don't like this.

Bar: Camilo and Antolin talk about Ivan's impending arrival and Camilo's worry. He almost tells Antolin that he married her knowing that she was pregnant by another man, but instead says he knew she loved someone else. He asks Antolin to find out what he can about Ivan's intentions. Antolin tries to get him not to worry. Ivan married Maripaz for Alex and he's not likely to try to take Perla away from Lucia.

Avances:
Secretos y mentiras as Tony meets baby Perla and finds out that Lucia and Camilo are married. Bruno is not in that scene.

And we have to wait until Monday to find out. Rats.

Cuando Me Enamoro #144 Wednesday 11/9/11 Not much progress, heroine takes a dumb pill; hero too busy arguing with police, tantrum man gets benefit of doubt

Recap by Marta Ivett

Recap of prev ep:
Berta: You were capable of deceiving everyone into believing you were crazy… you are capable of anything…
Jero regretting helping Alvaro.
Alvaro torturing Karina…
Augie: I am sure Alvaro would rather die than go back to jail.
Nata: I am doing this more for duty than wanting to…

Antonio arrives at Gonzo’s house…
Gonzo surprised Antonio is in seminary now… Antonio tells him he will be assigned to the Valle de Guadalupe (near La Bonita)… Antonio wants to appologize, with broken voice…
Tony admits he knew Pepa and Fina were one and the same long before they found out. Gonzo puts a shocked locked face… I became her ally and I feel responsible for what happened to you.
G: It is not your fault (written on the pad)
Antonio says if I had not been a coward and had told the truth, you would not be like this.
Gonzo again does not blame him… Antonio keeps blaming himself. Needs to clean his conscience.
Gonzo says you are a good man, God bless you.
Tony says he is trying to find the right way, trying to find peace in God… will do whatever to help them in any way he can. Believe it or not, leaving in peace knowing Gina is with you. Know she is happy with you, loves you and she never loved me. Perhaps because I never played fair… I tried to retain her with the promise I would find her daughter.
Gonzo writes we all make mistakes, we have to learn to forgive others and ourselves…
Tony admits that Gonzo and Gina won at the game because they fought for their love.

Ezeq arrives and Augie rants at him how come Alvaro is alive? Augie wants to know how he was expedited a death certificate if he is alive? Ezeq gets really nervous… Augie notices it… You hate him because he slept with your wife and I hate him for being a traitor. Augie does not want to go find him, because he would expose himself in sending his own men to find Alvaro. He will let the authorities do it. He is sure Alvaro prefers to die than jail. Alvaro brings out the skeletons in Ezeq’s closet… Alvaro knows Ezeq used to be a delincuent, was in jail for some time.. just like Alvaro. Ezeq says he ended in jail because he was hungry (in poverty).. he was very young. Augie makes it clear that he is blackmailing Ezeq into keeping him up to date about any news regarding Alvaro. When Ezeq leaves, Augie tells himself that Ezeq is no longer loyal to him, knew Alvaro was alive and did not tell him, so noone will know about his jail time until he feels like it.

Ines, Gina and Connie talk about Chema and about Ines' foundation ‘aqui nadie se rinde.’ Gina says I opened this center in honor of my daughter, ANSR will also be great.

Alvaro has Kari tied up to a chair in some shack...(are we going to get a burning barn again a la Nunca te Olvidare?) … Somehow Karina headbumps Alvaro and he goes down for a long count unconscious. She thanks God for not letting him rape her again and she asks for help to be found… suddenly she leans back and, whala!! There is a nail on the wall right at the right height so she can rub the rope tying her hand on it.

Mati, Manuela and Herminia in kitchen… Mati does not feel like eating. They talk about what Kari and Lazaro are going through. Lazaro and Carlos are still out looking for Kari. Manuela is afraid of what Lazaro would do if he had Alvaro in front of him.

Carlos tells Lazaro he talked to Jero and he was told there is no news of Alvaro or Kari. Lazaro sounds pretty desperate to find her. Carlos tries to cheer him up. Lazaro could care less what happens to Alvaro, but if something happens to Kari he will never forgive himself.

Renata is checking something in her suitcase. Spots the emerald necklace and puts it away in a desk.

Jero is pampering Marina again… they talk about the situation, fairly uncomfortable. She can’t wait for the Dr to come diagnose her so she can go back home. Jero is concerned about the rest of her pregnancy. He wants to do whatever they can for the babies health. Jero says he would have loved for everything to have turned out different. She agrees. But there is no going back.

Jero and Nata are leaning in bed together, both of them are praying and wondering why isn’t Nata the one giving him a child? (BECAUSE YOU TWO ARE STUPID THAT’S WHY!)

Next day Manuela brings Marina breakfast in bed… Marina compliments her food…
Marina asks Manuela to find someone that can help care for her during the pregnancy.
Manuela says she would even do it herself because she knows Nata, Jero and everyone else trusts her. Manuela says the situation is affecting Nata too. Marina is a bit rough saying ‘yes she is the wife, and she feels bad having to share the roof with her husband’s children’s mother’… the truth is hard, but it is that, the truth.

Nata is dressed and gets the necklace Augie gave her… she writes a note… and leaves it on the bed…

Jero is in his office arguing with the police captain about not finding Alvaro.

Kari untied her hands… she tries to tie Alvaro (someone wasn’t a girl scout) but he is about to wake up so she leaves after hitting him with a bottle on the head to make him fall again. Sorry Alvaro, I did not want to hurt you, it is your life or mine.. and although I know you are alive, and will be for many years… never never… will we see each other again.

There is a road block out there.

Carlos and Lazaro continue looking for Kari.

At jail, Fina orders Roberta to go get the money and give it to the doctor in the jail. Berta is surprised at Fina’s smarts… you don’t even bother asking for my dad, Fina laughs and says surely he is in bed as a vegetable… Berta says nope, he is recovering very quickly (which really shocks Fina). IT seems you will never be able to get rid of him or Gina. And you don’t know how glad I am.

Doctor gives Gonzo the thumbs up on the check up.

Gonzo and Dr compliment Gina on her love and caring for Gonzo.

Back at La Bonita, Jero goes to the bedroom, reads Nata’s note and immediately guesses right what is the ‘errand’ Nata had to go run… to see Augie. Even though Nata’s note is asking him to trust her, he is visibly upset about her meeting Dunant.

Nata arrives at Tantrum Man’s… She is very dry with him, returns his necklace and engagement ring, and he asks why she changed with him. She says she came to clarify that… she asks directly if he was involved in the attempt to kill Alvaro. Augie acts offended. He gives her his word that he would never kill anyone. Questions why she believes a drunk… He blames Alvaro for kidnapping Kari and killing a man. Nata tells him that Alvaro would have reason to suspect Augie would want to kill him because he knew that Augie stole a grape plant spurt from La Bonita. Augie gets really angry and loud… He paid loads of money for the crops of La Bonita… Nata asks why would a man about to die lie about anything?? Augie yells that he will prove to Nata that he will prove that she is wrong. She is impactada, seems to believe him. (I don’t know if I am more mad at Tantrum man for sounding like a spoiled kid who is not getting his new toy, or at Nata for being the queen of dumb.)

Alvaro wakes up but is visibly beaten up and still a bit with a hangover. He keeps repeating Kari’s name… but is moving very sluggishly. Bichir is doing a great job in making that black suit as dirty as possible rolling all around the dirt floor…

Jero calls Nata’s cell but she won’t answer so he leaves her a message saying he is worried about her if she is with Augie.

Karina is walking around the fields… seems very tired and desperate begging for help.

Berta arrives to the jail doctor’s office… she gives him the briefcase full of money. Fina comes in. Berta takes her leave, she is mad and just says she did what Fina wanted. The doctor observes that Berta does not love Fina…

Gina and Gonzo walk the Doctor out and then get a bit cheesy ‘it was your love’…

Hono and Matt at the office… Matt is heading to see Gonzo… asks Hono to come. Hono is reluctant to leave the office alone, Adri is not there. Hono says the Berta issue is making him very unsettled, so he ends up leaving with Matt.

A woman comes to the center with a baby in her arms… Connie and Ines attend to her. The woman has no money or skills, she wants to learn how to support her child.

Chema’s doctor tells dad the bad news that all they can do is control the pain until the end comes. Adri is asking how long do they have. Doctor not sure. They have to come up with a pretext to bring Chema to have tests done without telling him.

Chema is at a jewelry store and asks Julieta to help him choose an engagement ring that he plans to give Adri on the day of the restaurant opening.

Alvaro unties himself and goes out with the gun to look for Karina.

Jero calls Marina’s doctor, who found a portable sonogram and is heading there to check her.

Mati tells Jero that Nata arrived. Marina tells Mati that Jero is a good man… the best man I know.

Jero goes to bedroom to see Nata… he confronts her immediately about going to see Dunant. Nata tells him Augie swore he did not order Alvaro’s death and did not steal the grape plant. Jero is now the offended one, says she believes Augie… Nata tells Jero that Alvaro’s word is the one that has no credibility. Jero asks if she would believe Ezequiel’s word. Jero tells Nata that Augie ordered Ezequiel to kill Areli… Eze came to tell Lazaro and they took her out of town safely. Why would he kill Areli? Because she was a nuisance to him and because she was the one that ruined his ‘mosto’ (the crops from La Bonita).

Previews:
Seems Kari finds Lazaro but as they hug, Alvaro points to them with his gun.
Tantrum man is yelling at someone that he won’t allow his reputation to be ruined by a man who is a delinquent! (so much for keeping the card about Ezeq for another day)
Then we see Augie and Jero on a face-off
(This Friday it will begin at 6:50est, 5:50 cst, no show Thursday for the latin grammys.)
