New Telenovela: A Que No Me Dejas, Starts Monday, September 12, 2pm/1c. Synopsis And Cast

Looneyvision has finally deigned to air “A Que No Me Dejas” (“I Dare You To Leave Me”), the 2015 novela acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, in Mexico and the rest of Latin America.

“A Que No Me Dejas” was the biggest winner at Premios TVyNovelas 2016. It scooped up best script and/or adaption, best direction, best cinematography, best musical theme, best veteran actress and actor for Leticia Calderón and Arturo Peniche respectively, best female antagonist for Laura Carmine and, dare I say, it should have received the best male protagonist prize too, because Osvaldo Benavides deserved it heaps more than any other nominee in that category. The same producer, Carlos Moreno Laguillo, and the same writing duo, Martha Carrillo and Cristina García, that gave us such gems as “Amor Bravío”, “Quiero Amarte” and “En Nombre del Amor”, now bring us this remake of Carla Estrada’s “Amor en Silencio” (1988).

Amor de Barrio Discussion Page: The Past Clashes With the Present

Amor de Barrio keeps chugging along at at nice pace. Some plots could do with a little more speed but others show no signs of slowing down. Let's get into it:

Laura is saved from confessing what she tol Ariel by Rosa who got drunk off the flask Monalisa left at the house. (She already has liver problems so I wonder if a transplant is in the near future). Raul offers to put her in a rehab center.

Blanca Estela is having trouble adjusting to life on the outside. A lot of people scare but she's trying to make the best of it.

Delfina confirms with Ariel that Laura caused the stroke and tells Tamara (I don't mind this plan of attack so much because it is actually 100% true).

Laura tells Paloma that Raul is seeing the social differences between them and they might not work out regardless of the sibling thing. (I don't know where Laura gets this from since that has never mattered to Raul. He only didn't want Laura close to Edmundo because has a history of violence). Paloma suggests a blood test which Laura will do once her mom tells her the truth.

Amor De Barrio Discussion Page: Paloma & Daniel Get Together As Laura & Raul Drift Further Apart

Hello Everyone!

Here are the barrio happenings and goings of the last two days:

Monalisa brings a flask of alcohol to Rosa's house but she doesn't drink it. (It seems that losing her memory has been the best thing to ever happen to Rosa since she now sees people for what they truly are). She hides the flask in her trinket box though so she's not out of the woods yet.

The cop in charge of Rosa's case goes to the La Luciernaga in order to tell Edmundo that, while Dr. Serapio is dead, he was a patron at the club and maintained an affair with one of his workers and he intends to find out who it was. Edmundo tells the cop he doesn't know anything. When the cop leaves though, Edmundo tells Monalisa that he knows she was his lover and to be careful with what she does.

Rodrigo tries another strategy with Paloma: friendship and she agrees. He then tells Tico that he'd rather be in the friend zone for now than be out of her life completely if he pushes too hard romantically.

Amor De Barrio Discussion: "Golpes Que Da La Vida"

Hello Everyone!

I recently started watching Amor de Barrio and spent all this past week catching up on past episodes to be able to watch it live, hopefully with all of you.

I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw because, while this is a "traditional" novela rosa (with plenty of cliches) they are either handled in a fresh way or are revealed so quickly it never weighs down the story. I also love that both female protagonists, Paloma and Laura, are career women who go out into the world and the galanes are to brain dead insecure men who believe hearsay.

It is also the first novela in 9 years for Roberto Hernandez Vazquez, who last produced Heridas de Amor.

This is my first summary/blog so bear with me, please. This is a summary of the first 35 episodes so here goes nothing!
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Paloma Madrigal is a muchacha de barrio that recently finished her specialty in criminal law and needs to win her first case in order to get a job at a respectable law office. The case she chooses is that of Blanca Estela Bernal whom was unjustly imprisoned by Catalina Lopezreina for killing Catalina’s husband, Saul.

Catalina blamed Blanca Estela for Saul’s murder because Blanca Estela refused to tell Catalina where Saul’s lover, Dalia and her son, Rodrigo, were hiding. Blanca Estela, pregnant with Paloma, told her husband, Gustavo, everything was true when she was condemned to life in prison. She gave Paloma to Gustavo as soon as she was born WITHOUT knowing her if she gave birth to a boy or girl. Gustavo then told their children that their mom died during Paloma’s birth.
