Refugio Para el Amor #152 Tue 11/13/12 Well At Least She Didn't Throw It In His Lap!
Sorry to make light of Lorenzo's
scalding rebuke by Roselena, but I once covered a much worse story
about a domestic dispute back in the early 70's. An angry woman
dumped a pan of boiling water on her husband's lap. And my
heartless editor wrote the headline “He's Wearing the Hot Pants
Now”. So let's face it,
Roselena, heinous and hideous as she is, hasn't done anything we
can't read about in the paper any day of the week. Alas.
Now let's backtrack
a little and see what led up to Rose's red-hot revenge on Lorenzo.
However,I counted 43 scene changes tonight so I'm still going to
consolidate scenes to avoid mental whiplash.
Patricio's
Anvil-Laden Rehab Plans:
Our episode begins with Max talking to Oscar and the physical
therapist about arranging to adapt a vehicle so Patricio can drive
it. That's one possible way for our dear Pato to perish. But Aldo
and Patricio are also researching other rehab clinics all over the
world—Russia, China etc. to see if he can reach his goal of walking
again. A goal that he has promised Luciana to achieve. This stated
with a yearning look her way. A look she gently turns aside.
Another way for Pato to come a-cropper. (O please writers, spare our
favorite, will you? I'm willing to sacrifice Boris, by the way.)
Speaking of
Boris:
Yep,
our relentless stalker is lurking in the foyer of the corporativo
again,
wanting Jana to clarify their relationship. Because he's called and
called her cell and she never answered. That's when Jana realizes
she's left her cell at home. While putting off Boris, she
frantically finds a land line and calls Mati to have Genero bring her
the phone. No dice. He's running errands for Mom. Okay, so hide the
phone. Roselena overhears the conversation, quickly finds the
cellphone after Mati stuffs it in a drawer and makes her nefarious
plans.
When
Jana later comes home and neither she nor Mati can find the cellphone
, Rose coolly listens while they both haplessly lie. See, Mom, the
frantic rummaging is because I've lost my blue mascara. And? Well,
I'm going out to meet Lulu...to talk about Boris!...and want to give
myself a little manita
de gato (freshening
up) before the date.
Mom sends Mati off for some other mascara,
slips out the door, locks Jana in and leaves to take her place at the
café.( I guess if there were a fire, little Jana would have to
perish and mom would say “Serves you right!”) These various
scenes do give us an interesting insight on the family portraits.
The photo of Roselena with her sons is in the main living room. The
photo of Max with his daughter is in Jana's bedroom. A photo of the
whole family together? If it exists, we haven't seen it. More later.

Refugio Para el Amor #151 Mon 11/12/12 Looking for the Light at the End of the Tunnel; Things Still Look Pretty Grim
Roselena, that BITCH, has just called Luci up in Het Het to
rile her up by telling her Rod has most likely found her little boy, but
declined to tell Luci about it. She begs Luci not to tell Rod that she’s the
one who spilled the frijoles. She’s doing this because she doesn’t feel it’s
fair that Luci is the only one who’s gotten the blame for LOSING her son
(BITCH!). She just can’t imagine how
Luci can go to bed at night not knowing if her son is alive and well. Oh no,
Luci doesn’t deserve that. (BITCH, BITCH, BITCH!) Luci says that although she
can’t remember what happened that night, she’d rather be dead than have lost
her son.
R: I know Luciana, and you don’t know how sorry I am (that you DIDN’T die). You must be suffering a living death (muerta en vida).

Luci agrees that this is exactly how she feels, but she
won’t give up looking for her son, until her last moment of her life. Paz, not
liking the sound of this morbid conversation, comes up quietly behind Luci.
Rosa pledges her support and promises to help look for her grandson. (Your
recapper is really getting sick of this hypocritical conversation.) Rosa
finally twists the knife a little more by mentioning that Claudio is in on
hiding the big news from Luci too. He went to the clinic with Rod when he did
the DNA test, doncha know? They just
want to surprise her. Remember, not a word that I’m the one who told you.
Once they hang up, Luci turns to Paz and predictably blows
her top about being kept in the dark.
Rosa gloats that Rod’s lack of faith in Luci has once again separated
him from her. (BITCH!)
Max arrives home and shares a mutual enablers’ moment with
Mati. They are both worried about Rosa, who Mati thinks is worse than ever. Max
tenderly touches Mati’s cheek and agrees that Rosa is not well at all. (What’s
new?)
The Little Princess of the Dungeon in the Sky greets her
papa when he arrives home. She ate all
her lunch today and it was delicious! (No more liver!) She even ate her
veggies. This poor child is really deprived of familial attention because she
thinks the visit of her grandmother was an exciting thing. Rod asks why grandma
came. Gala swoops out of her bedroom to dish out her daily dose of trauma to
her little daughter. She tells Alexia, in the most salacious way possible, that
her Papi has another child with a woman who is NOT her Mommy. Rod shoots up from the couch like he’s about
to slap the grin off her wide grill.

Refugio Para el Amor #150 Fri 11/9/12 it is always worse when a secret is held for too long to avoid someone pain
Refrito:
Repeat of Rod telling Gala that they will know if Pablo is his kid via a DNA test. Gala quite concerned… Rod comes out of kitchen with the dreaded liver and veg puree dish and asks Gala why they have not thrown that out. Gala tells him she is waiting for Alexia to eat it… Rod mad, gets silverware and sits Gala forcefully on table in front of plate. ‘You teach by example!! You will eat this and you will not get up from table until you eat it!!’
Luci and Pato at Het Het… Luci thanks Pato for being there, feels like she met him today. Pato says I am the thankful one to life for having you near me, for you who gave me back my will to live from the moment you walked in my house. Luci says she would like to have at least some of his strength, his will to live, his joy… to help her overcome the pain that is with her every second of her life, as long as she does not have her child with her, she has no reason to live. Pato gets scared at hearing her speak like that. Luci says it is such an emptiness, she asks God not to let her wake the next day. Pato begs her not to even think that. He says these tests/challenges God only gives the strong ones like Rod and her. Only the strong in spirit can handle it. Luci says the strong as you. Your faith never leaves you. She leans down on table and he leans his head on hers. (wonderful scene by two young but extremely talented actors)
Lo Nuevo:
Paz, Magda and Ariche arrive, they will eat a bunch of reheated leftovers (descarrile as Luci’s dad used to say)
Back to Rod fighting with Gala to eat… Alexia comes out due to the shouting and asks her dad not to talk like that to her mom (we can see Gala smirk satisfaction at this)… Alexia asks Rod not to give liver to Gala, it tastes nasty, ‘guacala!!’
Rod grabs her on his shoulder and calms down instantly. Tells her her mom won’t eat it and neither will you, you will not be forced to eat what you don’t like. Rod takes Alexia away. Frigida comes out of kitchen, asks Gala if she can pick up table. Gala leaves after calling her ‘estupida’. Frigida mumbles thru teeth ‘now you know how it feels’.
Rod brings Alexia to her room, changes the subject and asks what she did with Janah, Aldo and Melissa… Alexia is excited to tell him everything…
R: Did you miss me?
A: Yes! Very much!!
R: really? Me too. Come here (hugs).
At TL manor, Max has told RE about the DNA test Rod will take for Pablo… RE obviously refuses.. and expects Max to prevent it. Max says this time Rod and Claudio really think this kid could be his son. Max goes away to change, RE mumbles it can’t be.
At CHelo’s…
C: My Mateo.. if you were that child that has caused that family so much pain… if you were well born, what need would you have to be needy at my side? … this medal is pretty nice… yes, son, you are well born, but you are not the child of those people. They have been years looking for their kid… and you… you were left in the trash. Someone evil wanted you to disappear. What harm could a child like you do to anyone, you are a blessing. No, Mateo, I will not leave you for anything in the world. You are my son and I am your father … nuff said.
At Het Het Pato is really enjoying the feast on reheated leftovers… Ariche asks Luci about Claudio, Luci says no he is not coming. Will call him tomorrow to see if there are any news. Pato asks if she misses the ‘pace’ of the city. Luci says no. Magda says maybe she misses the traffic. Ariche says she must be missing ‘el mushashon!’. Luci, Pato and Paz all put on a ‘ phewy! Meal is spoiled!’ look.
At the unhappy suite in penthouse…
Rod goes to Gala’s room to bark at Gala for what she was trying to do with Alexia. Gala tries to call it ‘teaching’, discipline… Rod says baloney, her education has been done by her nanny and Frigida, you are the one who stays away all the time. Gala tries to sell it as if she is finally trying to spend the time to pay attention to Alexia. Rod warns her he can’t take her right to educate her child, but he certainly will not allow her to hurt Alexia. Gala claims she would never hurt Alexia. Rod won’t buy what she is selling. Gets rough with her arms again: ‘you are talking to me, and I know you well’. If you are going to spend little time with her, let it be quality/positive time. ‘Sure, whatever you say dear.’
At TL manor, RE is barking at Janah… she can’t believe she told the priest that she gave up on a ‘good prospect’ for a miserly ‘taquero’. RE tells Janah that she will be six feet under before she allows Janah to get together with loser. Also tells Janah that she went to look for Lorenzo and threatened him (because warnings don’t work with them) that she would do anything to protect her children…RE says Janah is ‘a nina’ and does not see the evil in men.. (how old is Janah again? 7?), that Lore will just get what he wants with her and then abandon her. RE does not want to harm her or Lore. Don’t disobey me! (RE leaves, Janah stays there very worried)
Oscar and Connie have made it to a restaurant, Oscar is asking Connie why she keeps inviting him to the ‘family events’. Tu gente es mas rara que un perro verde! (your folks are stranger than green dog!)
Connie agrees it was an awkward moment, RE should have backed up her daughter in front of Bore-us and his parents, and THEN ‘discuss’ with her later on. Oscar says ‘you will never see that… but I am with you 100%, if you don’t want to invite your sister to the wedding’. ‘what wedding?’ ‘our wedding!’ ‘ what are you talking about?’ ‘I am thinking to invite your children to eat, you think they will agree?’ ‘sure, what are we celebrating?’ ‘nothing, I think I should be building a relationship with them, right? I am in love with a woman with baggage, everytime you see them or talk to them your face lights up, and that makes me very very happy.’ ‘you are right, so sweet!.’
Following day. RE is at TL offices asking Rod about the DNA test. And is faking being hopeful that child is his son. Have to tell Luci. I can call her myself. Rod says don’t want to raise her false hopes… asks her to let him do things as he wants. Depending on the dna test, he will tell everyone. RE is really loony, wants to hug him to congrat him and wish that child is his… (during hug, with a bit of brow lift, we can really tell her true wish)
At Het Het, Pato tells Luci he had been thinking at the hotel and is returning to the city. He came to have a meeting with the mountain. Was angry, resentful, hurt inside. Already faced that and now want to attack it again. I will walk again and will climb it again. I am all decided. He assures her he will walk again.
At his place, Don Aq is buiding himself a 3 pound taco with all types of pork stuff (the last thing you want in your diet when you are trying to get over a gout burst). Procopio comes in and shouts to him ‘what are you trying to do? That is poison for you! Are you committing suicide?? No one dies in this town, but I don’t want you to be the first!’ Don Aq just waves him away and keeps on eating.
At vecindad, Selene and Vio are talking about the ‘bomboncito’ guy who showed up at the car wash… Vio is not ready to take chances with a guy again. Fabi comes in and teases Vio again. Then asks her to be careful. Vio assures him she learned her lessons.
At Het Het Pato says his goodbyes… Rod calls him, Pato tells him he is heading back. Want to continue the therapy, have a commitment to come back to fulfill. (of course Rod puts a sad/concerned face, thinking the ‘commitment’ is about Luci). Pato tells Rod he will witness the commitment he made. Rod asks what does Luci say. Pato says Luci is the happiest of the bunch. (poor deflated mushashon is almost wordless)
Oscar is in a hurry, is introducing the justice of peace to Aldo and Melissa. Connie is very pretty. He asks Connie if she is up for a civil marriage ceremony for dinner?’. Connie is totally surprised but not in a bad way. Oscar wants her children to be the witnesses. Aldo is like ‘wth’ like he came to the wrong party. Melissa is like ‘wth’ but in a good way. Connie thinks the surprise is wonderful. Melissa wishes them all the happiness… Aldo piggy-backs her wishes… alright we are ready licenciado.
At Het Het, Procopio has run to get the priest to help him with Aquiles. He has come to the priest since the priest would not hold grudges against Aquiles.
RE has gone to see Gala. Alexia comes running to greet her ‘abuela RE’. RE asks Alexia about how she is doing in school but two seconds into Alexia’s response, Gala cuts her off and sends her to her room…
RE tells Gala that Rod is getting the DNA test with the child today. And if that child turns out to be his child, all ‘our’ efforts to disappear that kid will go down the drain… Gala agrees but wants to take the conversation on outside, so they both head out. Frigida opens the door and is smirking ‘so!... that is what you two are up to!’..
Rod and Pablo do their dna sampling via saliva…
Out on the street Mateo is selling his papers in between the lanes in a high traffic road. Rod wants to stop to say hi but the traffic behind him honks and urges him to move on…
But it was long enough for Mateo to see him and realize what happened…
At the unhappy pent house… Alexia is trying to put makeup on Frigida to take her ‘grumpy looking expression’ out of her face, Frigida says ‘what do you want? My parents made me that way..’ (when Frigida looks at her self in the mirror… OMG!!! LOL!)
Connie and Oscar are celebrating with Aldo and Melissa going to dinner (steak and veggies, yum!!) Connie wants to go to the salon to get herself look very pretty for hubby.
Aldo and Melissa discuss if they have been in love before… Aldo realizes Melissa is in love, and says ‘that is an epidemic!! I will pass, thank you!!’.. they all toast to happiness.
Janah stops by Lorenzo’s taco stand by her house… they have a bit awkward greeting…
Lorenzo says they have things to talk about. Janah more than willing to talk ‘ahorita’. Lore say no way, want to take her to a nicer place, now am working… I know of a café where they always have fresh warm bread… Tomorrow at 7 ok? Sure! Ok, will send you the address to your cell phone. (they kiss on cheek goodbye, see you tomorrow…)
At the salon (with Vicky, of course, Aldo invites Vicky to dinner, Vicky accepts, Aldo leaves), Connie tells Vicky she has no problem with Vicky’s history with… you know who.. that is why she keeps coming. Vicky congratulates her on her wedding to Oscar. Today she wants ‘the works’. Vicky happy to oblige. Vicky texts Max. thanks but no thanks. Max mad, is sitting in front of Oscar at office, Oscar asks all well? Sure, all well.
Max congratulates Oscar on the wedding. You know Connie and I, unplanned surprises. Max is sad commenting his life is full of surprises, but rather terrible moments. Oscar suggests he go travel with RE… Max says their marriage is long worn out, love is gone.
Connie asks Vicky how she has been since her dad’s death. Vicky says good… every night I pray for him to keep me safe… and when I get home I thank him. I remember him most when Mr Campos visits me… who is that Mr Campos? … a friend of my dad’s, they were friends since before I was born. He is like my second dad. (I wonder how good Connie’s memory is and if she can connect the name to Claudio’s trial, then again she wasn’t there… it would mean anything to her, but perhaps to Melissa it would… hmmm!)
At TL manor, RE barks at Mati. Mati comments she is trying to get used to the silence at the house. Miss the noise of the children, the big parties… RE barges that the next celebration was Janah and Bore-us wedding but thanks to that ‘taquero’ it won’t be!
At TL offices, Max, Rod, Claudio and Oscar again comment DNA test and the decision not to tell Luci about it … Max does not let Claudio forget the child is also ‘mi nieto’ (how old is Max? 15?)… Oscar rolls his eyes, Claudio and Rod just stare at Max like don’t go there…
At Het Het Luci is working in a very big very pretty pot… very detailed the paint design.
Paz is complimenting her on it. Ariche won’t go without a bit compliment to his pigs…
Procopio comes in, asking for help from Magda for convincing Don Aq to take care of himself. He is there eating all things pork. Magda says for me, he can eat all of Miss Piggy… she will throw a party when he dies… Luci feels more charitable. Paz already sent the garlic remedy of her great grandmother (this is why Aquiles felt good enough to get up and eat his heart out). Paz reprimends Magda on keeping all that resentment/rancor inside. Luci tells Procopio to tell Aquiles Luci sends a message to take care of himself, that she wants to see him walking through town again… Procopio says Don Aq will be very happy with that message, he might even turn vegetarian!! (LOL!)
At TL manor, RE calls Selena at TL office to ask her for Luci’s phone number at Het Het.
Pato greets Mati at his return… Mati tells him the news about Janah saying no to Bore-us… Pato celebrates that… That’s my sister!! … Mati tells him RE is worse than ever, she seems to change moods by the second, is acting very strange… when she prays at the chapel, she screams sometimes begging, sometimes angry, hurtful. Pato wants to rest some before going to see RE.
At Het Het, Magda asks Luci what if you had fallen in love with Pato instead of Rod? Luci says she loves Rod, even if she realized Paz is right, Pato also has ‘feelings’ for her. But the love of my life is my ‘Mushashon’. Phone rings. It is RE … to give her the ‘good news’. Rod asked her not to tell Luci anything… but it seems Claudio and Rod found the baby you lost!!.
Previews: RE smiles satisfied… Luci calls Claudio, she is hopeful, he is concerned.
RE tells the family (Max, Rod, Pato) that she wants to go to the shelter to meet the kid…
Gala tells Julie if she was capable of putting the baby in trash 5 yrs ago, she is now willing to put him down the sewer!!
And we have a finale date!! Dec 3rd!! ( in 4 weeks!! but it will be pre-empted several times by then, for latin grammys and possibly during thanksgiving week)

Refugio Para el Amor #149 Thu 11/8/12 The Grief, The Hope, The Rant and the Retribution

Rod and Claudio talking to Mateo about the good news/bad news/ where is your Mommy? Don Chelo comes over and Claudio introduces himself. Don Chelo wants to know what they want with Mateo.
Taco Corner and the Slap:
Rosa has come up and slapped the crap out of Lorenzo. Not only that, she is screaming in his face about all her hopes and dreams going bye bye, not really but she is pithed at him. He screams right back to stop insulting him. Fabian is a great witness and is trying to hold Lorenzo back. I think we in Viewerville, would love to see Lorenzo return that slap, jus' sayin'. Rosa calls him a wretch, he says he is a hard worker. She just continues the insults with he comes from a bad family and as a matter of fact, his sister got pregnant, without benefit of marriage, here is that non ending rant of hers, and to stay away from Jana or else something really bad is gonna happen! The maids eating behind them snicker and laugh at the la loca one. After Gennaro, sucks to be him, whisks her off in the big SUV, Fabian is still holding Lorenzo back as he calls the loca one the devil.

Refugio Para el Amor #148 Wed 11/7/12 Rosa Rages, Lovers Kiss and Anvils Align and Prepare to Fall

LO NUEVO
Jana bravely defies Rosa and says I’m not going to marry Bore-us. The assembled guests freeze and those in the know wait for Rosa’s expected explosion. Bore-us leaps into the silence calling Jana-- Flaquita, which annoys her so much she snaps don’t call me Flaquita. My name is Jana. Rosa tells Jana she is ridiculous and demands to know what this is all about. Jana who has stiffened her spine tells her I don’t want what you want mama. I love you more than anyone in the world but you can’t live your life again through mine. This does not go down well and Rosa tells her if you don’t marry Bore-us, I swear you will be sorry.
Lorenzo talks on the phone to Luci. She tells him she understands so much. He is really down and she suggests he come to the pueblo, he can be with her, amah, Magda and Ariche. They can help. She knows how he feels; it is the same way with her and Rod. He wants to know if she has been able to forget even a little and she tells him no not for one second. Lorenzo tells her it is the same for him and he can’t get Jana out of his mind or his heart. Now he is going to have to learn to live without half of his heart.
Back at the engagement dinner from hell, Max tells Jana you are putting us all in an uncomfortable position. The reason for this dinner was to ask for your hand. Rod says Papa I think Bore-us and his parents should listen to what my sister has to say. Conny starts to say I’m sure it’s uncomfortable, but before she can go on Rosa snarls at her not to interfere. When and if someone asks for Melissa’s hand then she can say something. Not to be outdone Gagme pipes up that it is healthy for Jana to tell the truth before an important step like marriage because after you get married it is very difficult to discuss these things and shoots Rod a toothy smile, isn’t it my love. He just adds very difficult.
In Het Het Paz questions Luci, what happened? Why is she so sad after talking to Lorenzo? Luci tells her she doesn’t like it that Lorenzo is suffering. Lorenzo is suffering but why, what is wrong? Is it Jana? Luci tells her yes he is lost in love her. Paz says poor Lorenzo perhaps it's better to shed tears now rather than later what with all that the Señora Torreslanda is capable of doing. Magda says she agrees with Paz. That Lorenzo is a good boy, a good worker and honest. He deserves someone to love and care for. Paz says he shouldn’t be looking so high. Look at the suffering he found. Luci says what she most wants is that he doesn’t suffer like me. Magda says the Torreslandas and Jacintos are like oil and water. They never mix, they always end up separated. They are never together.
At the dinner Rosa says it’s just nerves for all of us, the emotion of the moment. Bore-us’ madre agrees that it is just nerves, right princesa? Bore-us’ padre says yes it is just nerves that made you say you won’t get married. Bore-us says, you never said anything when I asked you to marry me. Jana answers that she did say yes but she wasn’t convinced. Jana goes on, indicating Bore-us and Rosa, you two decided everything for me without giving me the opportunity to make my own decisions, without knowing what I really want. Where does it stop? I don’t know what I want for the rest of my life. Rosa says a good marriage is the only thing for the rest of your life. Rod steps in and says let Jana say what she feels. Jana continues, you mama, you set the date for my wedding without asking me, you planned this dinner. Jana tells Bore-us you decided we would get married without knowing if I wanted to be a professional and now your parents are deciding where we are going to live. Everything is prepared for a wedding I do not want.
Jana isn't finished yet and yells at her mother, this dress you bought me is the same as yours. Why? Because you liked it. You’re living again through me. She ends her tirade telling her mother my feelings aren’t important. Señora Bore-us says she has had enough of this but Bore-us says not me, mama. He asks Jana once and for all do you want to marry me. Obviously nothing short of a load of bricks falling on him gets through to this dope. Jana tells him point blank, no, I don’t want to marry you. Oscar and Conny exchange discrete smiles, Max and Rod keep theirs under control while Gala smirks.

The assembled guests and victim are gathered together and
Rosa says that the protocols have been observed as God ordered and tells
Bore-us’ padre to go ahead. The man says that for many years Bore-us has been
sincerely in love with Jana and asks that the Torreslandas give her hand in
marriage to their son. Jana, battling
panic and after having been pulled and pushed like a slab of salt water taffy
snaps and says no, I’m not going to marry Bore-us.LO NUEVO

Not to be outdone Gagme pipes up that it is healthy for Jana to tell the truth before an important step like marriage because after you get married it is very difficult to discuss these things and shoots Rod a toothy smile, isn’t it my love. He just adds very difficult.
In Het Het Paz questions Luci, what happened? Why is she so sad after talking to Lorenzo? Luci tells her she doesn’t like it that Lorenzo is suffering. Lorenzo is suffering but why, what is wrong? Is it Jana? Luci tells her yes he is lost in love her. Paz says poor Lorenzo perhaps it's better to shed tears now rather than later what with all that the Señora Torreslanda is capable of doing. Magda says she agrees with Paz. That Lorenzo is a good boy, a good worker and honest. He deserves someone to love and care for. Paz says he shouldn’t be looking so high. Look at the suffering he found. Luci says what she most wants is that he doesn’t suffer like me. Magda says the Torreslandas and Jacintos are like oil and water. They never mix, they always end up separated. They are never together.
At the dinner Rosa says it’s just nerves for all of us, the emotion of the moment. Bore-us’ madre agrees that it is just nerves, right princesa? Bore-us’ padre says yes it is just nerves that made you say you won’t get married. Bore-us says, you never said anything when I asked you to marry me. Jana answers that she did say yes but she wasn’t convinced. Jana goes on, indicating Bore-us and Rosa, you two decided everything for me without giving me the opportunity to make my own decisions, without knowing what I really want. Where does it stop? I don’t know what I want for the rest of my life. Rosa says a good marriage is the only thing for the rest of your life. Rod steps in and says let Jana say what she feels. Jana continues, you mama, you set the date for my wedding without asking me, you planned this dinner. Jana tells Bore-us you decided we would get married without knowing if I wanted to be a professional and now your parents are deciding where we are going to live. Everything is prepared for a wedding I do not want.
Jana isn't finished yet and yells at her mother, this dress you bought me is the same as yours. Why? Because you liked it. You’re living again through me. She ends her tirade telling her mother my feelings aren’t important. Señora Bore-us says she has had enough of this but Bore-us says not me, mama. He asks Jana once and for all do you want to marry me. Obviously nothing short of a load of bricks falling on him gets through to this dope. Jana tells him point blank, no, I don’t want to marry you. Oscar and Conny exchange discrete smiles, Max and Rod keep theirs under control while Gala smirks.

Refugio Para el Amor #147 Fri 11/2/12 You say yes!! I say no!! You say WHY!! and I say HELL NO, I WON'T GO!! ... now Mi Janita esta contenta y su mamita esta' asfixia!!

Repeat of Boris provoking Lorenzo and Fabi stopping Lore but Lore saying Boris is right, Lore cannot offer Janah what Boris can (or like he will say later, he can only offer her ‘pan hoy y hambre manana’ bread today and hunger tomorrow)
Rod telling Janah RE already lived her life and is now collecting on what she invested. Live your life and not the life your mother wants to live through you.
Rod confirms to Janah that Pato and Luci left for SFeA.
Chelo and Mateo at the park, Mateo works Chelo into agreeing to buy him an ice cream.
At Het Het Paz insists to Luci to call Rod back. Luci says came home to avoid him. Paz says you cannot avoid him forever, you work together and have a son together…
Rod is buying Alexia a chocolate ice cream and in come Chelo with Mateo wearing a green turtle mask. Mateo recognizes Rod and calls him by name, to the astonishment of both Rod and Chelo. Rod introduces himself to CHelo and then tells the turtle that he has not had the pleasure… Mateo takes off the mask and Rod recognizes him finally and greets him. Glad to see you again (hand shake). Mateo asks why he has not stopped by to buy another paper… Rod’s cell phone rings, he politely excuses himself to answer but there is no one at the other end, although from the image that the phone showed him he can tell it was Luci. (we get a glimpse of a flustered Luci unwilling to talk) Rod wakes up from his shock quickly enough to introduce the kids that he does not know are both his children to each other. Rod smiles at the kids shaking hands.
Lo Nuevo:
Mat: Look, dad, Rodrigo’s daughter does go to school!
Alex: You don’t?
Chelo: Well, they still won’t take him in, he is still too young.
Mat: That is not true! I am big. I just turned five!!
Chelo: Well, they still won’t take him in the kinder at the neighborhood.
Mat: Then what do I do, dad?
Rod: Well, please don’t take this as an interference from me, but I think Mateo should be going to school already… if you allow me, I can offer my help…
Chelo: No way jose.. I don’t know you and I won’t let you do anything!… lets go, son!
Mat: But … what about my ice cream??
Chelo: I will buy you a popsicle on the way (home)! Lets go, son!
Mat: But make it vanilla flavor! Goodbye Rodrigo! Goodbye Alexia!! (he looks so cute waving his hand goodbye to both Rod and Alexia. Rod and Alex both wave back to him)
Rod: Goodbye Mateo!
Alex: Dad, isn’t it true Mateo should be at school like me? He is already 5 y.o.! he is big!
Rod: Yes, mi amor, Mateo is big. He should be at school already. He is 5 years old now. (then he whispers lower to himself) he is 5 years old.. like my son Rodrigo.
At Het Het Paz has words of wisdom for Luci: Mija, even if you hang up on Rod a thousand times, your heart will keep on calling out for him. I can understand your big sorrow, things did not start on the right foot between you two, and when you both wanted to right the ship, others had put too many stones in the way(I would say boulders!) in the way! Too many lies, too many dirty tricks! … to prevent you two from being together!
Luci: What do I do now? Its been 5 years! And I keep on loving him even knowing we can’t be together.
Paz: Keep on loving him, mija. But in silence. Don’t shout out your love because the only thing you will hear is the echo of your pain! Love him with dignity, in silence, giving yourself your place. And without forgetting there is a child out there waiting to be found. That child will join you two for live, Luci.. .forever.
Chelo bought Mateo a vanilla popsicle. Mateo wants to know why CHelo is angry. Chelo claims he is not angry, he just does not like what the people talk about when they go out together. Mateo tells him who cares what they say or if they make fun of us. Don’t think I have not noticed. But the truth is you are my dad and I am your son. So what does it matter. (you can tell this kid is very mature for his age, and that Chelo is moved by his words).
RE is battering Connie for her intention to marry Oscar. What do you mean you will marry Oscar when you are married?? (Mati tries to help saying Connie divorced just after Aldo was born, but RE takes it as offense). RE wants to believe Connie has NOT forgotten that she married by church and although she is divorced, to the eyes of God she is married… Connie says RE’s actions of the past are worse than her intention to get married being FOR LOVE… RE changes tactic to play sad bystander… and she starts to pray with her hands on Connie’s head that God forgive her for her sin and save her soul when she is in God’s presence. Connie is in disbelief, Mati is nodding ‘my God!’
Max is at the apartment, but there’s no Vicky… he calls Celina (his sec at TL offices) to call his wife to tell her he went out on business but will make it home before dinner time (before the asking for Janah’s hand ) At Nicole’s salon, Nicole and Vicky are counting money that looks way too shiny (do they brush some nail polish on the money for practice?) Vicky tells Nicole she does plan to go meet Max but she wants him to wait some… Vicky assures to Nicole that Max won’t get the SUV back, no matter what he tries. She is going to the apt, but Max will not get the hanky panky he expects.
Chelo and Mateo get home. Chelo wants Mateo to promise he won’t talk to Rodrigo or anyone else ever again. Mateo says he will still sell the papers to Rod… so Chelo has to give in on that one. Mateo asks Chelo not to be mad at him, yo te quiero mucho. Hug
At Het Het Pato is telling Magda and Paz about Janah returning home after 5 yrs in Italy getting her architecture degree. Tonight Boris parents will ask for her hand in marriage. Paz wonders if Janah is too young for that. Pato says she is not that young anymore although there are some things that even if we don’t agree with them, they can’t change.
At Vio’s business carwash, Lorenzo is walking around remembering Boris’ words and looking very somber…
At TL offices, Oscar is in Janah’s offices doing work stuff… tomorrow she will be introduced to the whole team. The team lead will take her (saying will hold her hand). In comes Boris without knocking or excusing himself…
(this I have to script word for word, it is too good, Oscar is an awesome role and Harry G. is great in it. And poor Janah can only limit herself to roll eyes and yell ‘Boris!’ often)
B: I hope the ‘hand holding’ thing was just speaking figuratively.
O: Excuse me, Boris, why do you waltz in without knocking first?
B: No, there is no need for me to knock before coming in because this is my fiance’s office.
O: (a bit later) … let me tell you that in this office you have to make an appointment before showing up and have to follow the rules.
B: I don’t get why you tell me this… (scans Oscar with his eyes in undermining mode from bottom to top) Oscar!… Janah is the daughter of the owner of the company and I can visit her whenever I want to.
O: You are very wrong. Here there are two major stockowners and many smaller stockowners, including me. And we manage this consorcio very different (than you would think). So if you want to come in, respect the rules. Good afternoon, Janah.
B: No manches, Janah, this guy is a jerk! But things will change when we are married!
J: They WON”T change! This is my place of work. And even though I am the daughter of MTL, I am an employee like any other, with the same rights and responsibilities. Got it??
(the Janah table at the Patio is cheering in approval: ‘NUFF SAID!! YOU GO GIRL!!…)
At the penthouse apartment, Vicky is letting Max slurp her neck but she is a block of ice… he notices and questions her on it. She comes up with ‘we haven’t been together so long I want us to go slow’ excuse.
RE calls Gala to summon her to come with Rod for the dinner party. Rod comes home with Alexia and Gala rejects Alexia’s attempt to greet her with a hug because Alexia has dirty hands (chocolate ice cream?). Rod witnesses the ‘motherly love… NOT!’ scene so he rats at her for her lack of motherly love (did you really expect any different, Rod?). Gala won’t let Alexia dirty up her clothing. Rod is just dropping Alexia home, have to go back to the office. Gala keeps nagging nagging… Rod keeps nagging back ‘you are such a good mother!’ and leaves. Gala yells at Brigida to serve comida.
Poor Alexia is basically ordered by Gala to eat liver with broccoli/peas/carrot puree… YUCK!! The poor thing was asking Brigida if she had prepared her favorite chicken dish. Later Gala is still forcing Alexia to eat the liver and the whole puree… ‘if you want to be as pretty as I am, you have to eat what I tell you’.(YIKES!!!) ‘you did not eat it right when they served it and now it is cold and tastes even worse, but you still have to eat it! (DOUBLE YIKES!!! Even Brigida behind the wall is making faces at Gala’s behavior. As a mother, even I get gurgles at watching Gala force Alexia to eat and Alexia calling for her dad to get home already. ‘Papi, ven!!”)
At the other dinner table, CHelo, Mateo and Chuy are having dinner. Mateo is so funny noting he did wash his hands but CHelo hasn’t. Chelo has to go wash his hands or Chuy won’t serve him.
At Het Het another dinner table? Paz, Ariche, Luci, Pato, Magda and Namurachi… Luci is saying grace and praying her son also has something to eat. Such a cheerful dinner party there… as always.
At office, Oscar compliments Rod on his taking the time to be the best father he can. Rod says Alexia is the only motivation for him to come home. He just has one look at her and my live gets brighter.
At Het Het they all are taking Pato for a stroll through town… and they just missed a call from Rod’s cell to Paz’ house. Rod is a bit flustered.
The nannie and Brigida are both feeling bad for Alexia, but Brigida discourages any attempt to rock the boat because Gala would kick them both to the curb immediately.
Julie tells her friend Carola(Thanks, Madelaine!) that she can’t allow Gala to ruin what they have invested so much time and effort… she won’t be without the TL fortune… Carola asks what will you do now? … flirt with Max… Really?... no! I am going after Claudio Linares again. Can you imagine Luci’s reaction that besides I am Rod’s MIL, I will be her own step mom?? (dream on, B____H!! Claudio is not your typical shallow brained target... )
At Het Het they are walking through town… Luci and Pato compliment each other’s efforts… They also talk about Pato wanting to continue his strive for walking. But what he is thankful for is that from the plane of the chair, he has learned to see people through their hearts.
At apartment, Vicky tells Max she wants to progress to own her own business… Max berates her that he did not come to talk about her business ownership dreams but to sleep with her. Vicky continues playing hard to get and leaves, ‘say hi to your wife. Bye’
In his car, Boris continues to be a pest to Janah… he has a surprise for her tonight. She is less than amused. Are you mad at me? … lets see, I want to clear the road… I don’t like for you to visit me at work. IF I went to Florence to study architecture, it was to put it into practice when I returned home.!! Boris can’t even get her to smile at him. Gets a forced smirk instead.
Lorenzo talks to Vio … also tells her Boris is right… what can I offer Janah? ‘pan pa’ hoy y hambre pa’ manana’ Vio does not want him to talk that way. If the rich always were the better options, maybe Rod would be very happy now with Luci and she would not have left the hospital or lost her child… You are a very good taquero and with honor! You have progressed so much, you have 12 bikes with a locale… Lorenzo says there is a long way to go still, but already saving to buy a house… Vio says see? That is what gives you value/worth, you are on the way… You are great Lorenzo, and that ‘Boris’, all he has to offer is that he was born with silver spoon. He’s not even as handsome as you… Lorenzo thanks Vio for the encouragement..
Janah gets home mad. Mati tells her RE went out shopping with Genaro, is so enthused with tonight’s dinner… Janah not so much. Mati understands Janah is not enthused because she is not in love. Mati won’t try to keep communicating Janah with Lorenzo. Janah thanks her for telling her about Lorenzo everytime they talked… ‘each time you talked to me about him I felt like I had him with me, and yet we were so far…’
Alexia has fallen asleep at the table… Gala shouts for Brigida which scares Alexia, Gala tells Brigida to save the dinner in the fridge to serve again to Alexia tomorrow(Witch!!) and you will go to bed without your usual milk merienda. So tomorrow you will be hungry and will eat your food… (double witch!!) Gala tells herself ‘poor thing, but if your dad won’t give me the time of day, someone will have to deal with the broken dishes’. Rod gets home, wants to see Alexia, but Gala says no and lies saying Alexia already had her night cereal of color animals. She hurries him to get ready, RE wants them to be on time for the dinner… Rod won’t engage in the fight so he heads to the shower..
At Het Het they are packing the current order for the hotel chain… tons of packing tape and bubble wrap everywhere… Magda says she and Paz are the Quality Control dept. LOL! Pato compliments them for their achievement these last 5 yrs. Luci passes the compliments to Paz, Magda, Namurachi and everyone else.
Julie is visiting Claudio at office… She wants him to stop calling her Julieta. She wants him to invite her somewhere for a drink. He is too busy.. ‘julie!’. She says it must be something about the men in this business… none go home to spend time with wives. She says he needs someone to pamper him and keep him company. Claudio says he got that with his daughter Luci… Julie keeps swinging the bat and wants to talk about ‘OUR present and OUR future’… Claudio gets serious… Julie walks behind his desk and starts with some speech that he is young, that he needs to rebuild his life, he is handsome and very interesting. They say the true 30’s begin at 50’s. Claudio says the same thing he told Luci already, he is not interested in marrying again because he feels he is still in love with his late wife. Julie then won’t go home empty handed so she makes him comply to them going out to keep each other company with no commitments.
At TL manor, RE is at her three sided mirror vanity, talks with Mati about not seeing herself as pretty as before, then she starts with some analogy about having put on too much makeup, and the lighting in the room in the evening not being enough… in darkness everything gets merged and blurry… Janah comes in. Turns out RE bought her the dress for tonight ‘I went alone so no one would influence in my decision..’. (man!! How appropriate for RE’s daughter ‘ask for hand’ dinner party… a solid black sheath… I would expect this to come right out of RE’s own closet rather than Janah… she wants Janay to follow her footsteps for sure… the sheath for her dressing style and the black color because this is her ‘execution’ party for sure!) Janah protests because she bought many nice dresses in Italy and wanted to wear one of them tonight… RE insists so Janah again has to roll her eyes and please mom dearest.. Again RE looks like a girl playing doll house, and Mati behind her nodding in disbelief…
At Het Het Don Aquiles does not want Luci or her town tour party to see that he is crippled… or that he keeps company with a baboso like Procopio… so they hide as the Luci party walks/rolls by.
Brigida brings Alexia a plate of sincronizadas (like the flat Mexican tostadas at taco bell) with chocolate milk. Alexia is very thankful.
At the dinner party at TL manor, Gala is cackling about her perfect marriage and relationship with Rod… She pressures Rod to say something… so he says ‘Gala is a woman like there are none anymore’ (LOL!)… Janah is sick enough with Gala’s speeches that she summons Melissa so they can leave the table for a few minutes…
It is Boris’ parents turn to babble… Aldo is having fun with allt his… Rod is sucking a sour grape, Gala is smiling widely..
Janah shouts to Melissa that she does not want to get married. That RE wants to control her life, and to destroy her life like she destroyed Rod’s.. it is choking her, but she would not forgive herself if something happens to RE. maybe it is the destiny of the TL.. to be unhappy and never to know happiness…
Lorenzo calls Luci to release some sorrows… don’t say anything, just listen… I am dying of sadness… as we are talking now, they are asking for my Janitah’s hand in marriage. And I can’t do anything!! I love her more than anything in the world… And if she gets married, what do I do with this love?? Where do I throw it?? How do I make it so it won’t hurt?? (oh man!… I feel Lorenzo’s pain, I want these two in their own novella SO BAD!!)
At exec dinner, RE gets to the point… Boris’ dad formally requests from RE and Max the hand of Janah in marriage for his son Boris… Janah is short of breath and explodes… NO!!! I won’t get married to Boris!! (everyone is shocked quiet… Max smirks… Melissa smiles in approval and we can tell Rod, Connie, and Oscar feel this was for the better, but they are giving a controlled reaction to not make the awkward moment worse... I can't see Aldo but he must be enjoying this...)

Mati calls Lore to let him know Janah did not get engaged, Lore can’t hide his joy/relief… we see Lore and Janah have a very steamy meeting (apparently at the place where they cook the tacos) with kisses and hand holding… Rod calls Luci… ‘we can’t be separated. We have a son to find and if we stick together we will find him! (i will add a little word of wisdom for Boris... quien rie al ultimo, rie mejor!)
I am ready to sign a lease for my spot at a HUGE HUGE table pro-Janah/Lorenzo at the Patio, serving Italian ices charged with your fav liquor with tacos de chicharron and tacos de papa…

Refugio Para el Amor #146 Thu 11/1/12 Time For Me To Fly, Part II, Come Fly With Me, Let's Fly, Let's Fly Away
Torreslanda Bidness, Luci's Office:
Pato and Luci are having a little conversation, you know the one from yesterday, about how she can't be near her Roddy right now, ok, not her Roddy, but you know she is thinkin' it. She doesn't want to be the "other woman" even though Rod told her that she is the one and only. She loves him so much and so she can't be near him, so she is going to Het Het and doesn't know when she is coming back, probably indefinitely. Pato asks her what about me? What about us?
Rod and Gagme's Apartment of No Love Lost:
Gagme, also now known as Skankarella, is sleepin' off that alcohol, doncha know, when Rod comes bustin' into that bedroom, he normally wouldn't go into. Skankarella, assuming it's Frigid, says I told you not to bother me already. Well, Rod informs her its not Frigid, its him. Gagme gets up for this and says to what do I owe the honor of your presence in this bedroom, hmmm? Rod is pithed at Gagme and tells her well since you were sleepin' it off, Alexia was unwell in school and you couldn't be bothered to go get her, too busy sleeping. Ya know, Frigid, the Nanny and I spend way more time with Alexia than you do, so obvio Alexia isn't important to you. Gagme contradicts him and says of course Alexia is important to her, and don't forget Rod es Mio, you will never be free, while she gives him a flirty look, playin' with his tie, and he backs away as if he is catching the Skankarella's cooties.
Back to Luci's Office:
Pato is pressing his point, what about us, you and I? Luci is looking like Que??? He tries to explain to her how much they have been helping each other lo, these five years, helping those ladies in Het Het, she just can't abandon these things. She tells Pato of course she is not abandoning the foundation, it's just painful for her to be here at the Torreslanda Bidness. She'll miss her Papa, her friends but she has to go. So Pato, I'm sorry about this but I have to say it, is crossing the line here, and accuses Luci of abandoning her son, what about her son, he asks? You gonna abandon him too, just cause you don't want to be near Rod? Luci is now speechless and gives Pato a look, and Pato now realizes he has crossed a line.

Refugio Para el Amor #145 Wed 10/31/12 “You must remember this, a KISS is still a KISS, a sigh is just a sigh, the fundamental things apply, as time goes by….”
This is a very long
narrative, so the Lo de Ayer and the Avances have been left out.
(We leave our unhappy pair kissing in the middle of the street in faraway Het Het, to go to DF, briefly, we hope, where we have a couple sharing a meal. One of the pair is not very happy and it shows, the other is very happy, but maybe it’s only for show. It’s Jana and Bossy Bore-us The Bull-y [gracias in part to Decie].)
Jana’s Surprise Lunch – Boris is quite animated. He’s brought out *the* engagement ring and has asked her to marry him. He takes Jana’s hand to put it on. She looks as though she just lost her appetite and might even lose her lunch, but Boris the Bull charges ahead. Jana doesn’t know how to resist. She frowns as he compels her to fix their wedding date. Finally, she reacts. Slow down, boy –I don’t know what I want yet; there are so many things I want to see and do; work at the corporate offices, or something else. –Ok, I won’t pressure you, but don’t delay setting the date! He grins at her. He wants to be married asap (cuanto antes). Jana’s talk with Padre must still be ringing in her ears; the prospect of being Mrs. Boris for the rest of her life gives her pause. Perhaps it was that her mother’s 5-year old threat of what she would do to Lorenzo if he came near her is still in play. Boris keeps up the no-pressure pressure by telling Jana how anxious his parents are to formally request her hand. Boris’ grin begins to fade as he becomes aware that Jana’s reaction is not one of a happy bride-to-be. (Good thing he didn’t try this on the giant public screen at the last soccer match between Mexico and El Salvador.) But, maybe he should have expected this, after all Jana has been cool and distant with him, but he’s hopeful that going along with his future suegra’s wishful thinking, or wishful hoping, or wishful prompting will engender a trip to the altar.
(We wonder, don’t we, what kind of matrimonial pair this will be—does Boris really love Jana as a person or will she be a trophy wife? We do know that he’s the jealous type, very jealous and that could be dangerous. Now we return to our momentarily interrupted Het Het Kiss.)
Het Het – The Kiss had both partners fully engaged. Finally, Luci breaks away, –This isn’t right; I can’t be alone with you. I always fall [into it] (siempre caigo). Rodrigo wants to know what is wrong with this Kiss, with being together, if they love each other. Luci has to explain (simpleton) –You are married–to Gala–and even if you don’t love her, she’s the mother of your child, your wife. I don’t want to be La Otra (the other woman). Rodrigo protests –You are not La Otra, you are La Unica (the only one). She disengages from his hold and leaves, hurrying down the cobblestone street with Rod following sadly behind, his fantasy world disappearing with her.
(We are surprised to be taken back to the DF where a pair united only by blood are together. She-who-has-everything-under-control is desperately begging for help from her sister, whom she normally treats in a most contemptible manner.)
TL Mansion – Roselena is afraid history is going to repeat itself (QTH?). Conny doesn’t know what she’s talking about (and neither do we). –After all these years of psychiatric help you should have found a little more peace. RE can’t find any peace, –I’m looking for some emotional balance in my house and in my children’s lives. –If you are talking about Rodrigo, ain’t gonna happen sis, as long as he’s married to Gala. RE says it’s not about them. They cannot separate; they have to stay together because they have a daughter that unites them. She’s talking about Jana, –I’m sure she’s still pining away for that Muerto de Hambre de Lorenzo. I caught her on the phone yesterday and she hung up and looked guilty as hell. I’m sure she was talking to... In comes poor innocent Mati with coffee, interrupting RE’s one track mind. Suddenly and inexplicably, Mati is grabbed by RE. Het Het – After that Kiss, Luci is all shook up. She doesn’t trust herself enough around Rodrigo not to show her feelings. She’s in a hurry to leave and begs Claudio to start home now, before it gets dark. Paz wanted her to stay longer. She promises to come back for a longer stay after her studies are finished. Pato will make sure she does and when she returns she’ll have a university degree as Deseñadora en Textil. Paz then commits a little boo-boo by asking Rod how his daughter is. Luci’s face falls. Rod says she’s very well, and thanks her for asking. That done, Paz gets the boxes she and Magda have for Lor, Vio and Estelita. Luci’s goodbye includes an invitation to Ariche to come and stay with her for a week during his vacation.

Conny is probably wondering what Mati put in her coffee, —Boris hasn’t even asked for her hand in marriage. RE says that is the least of her worries (es lo de menos). She’ll handle that end of it for Boris. Conny is convinced RE is just going to repeat the mistake she made with Rodrigo and Gala. Has she even talked to Jana to ask if she loves him enough to marry him? RE is convinced Boris is the most suitable (conveniente) mate for her. Punto. Conny is not talking about suitability, she’s talking about the love Jana feels for Boris. What they have is habit (costumbre), not love. Love? –What does it matter if she’s in love, spits Roselena. I got married totally and deeply in love and for what? For my husband to be unfaithful. And you? All that love between you and your husband and you got DeeVorced. Where is LOVE—it’s exactly the same whether you are in love or not. Punto. Conny warns that may be what she thinks, but if there IS love between Jana and Lorenzo, nothing she can do will prevent them from being together. She reminds RE that if she tries to separate them, lo más cerca que son los corazones, más cerca son las tentaciones (the closer the hearts, the greater the temptations).

Het Het – Luci and
Rodrigo have left Paz’ happy gathering to go get something for Magda. As they walk, Rodrigo waxes romantic about
the memories that being here in the pueblo and on these streets mean to him. Luci tries to avoid looking at him, but
agrees that it was a magical story of love that unfortunately didn’t have a
happy ending. Rodrigo contradicts
her –This story isn’t finished yet; the
next chapter hasn’t been written; we’ll write it ourselves, you and me. There is an almost kiss. Rod says, –Don’t resist it, accept it; you
love me as much as I do you and we deserve to be together. He leans in for a Kiss, and Luciana, against
her normally better judgment, responds.
The Kiss becomes passionate.
(We leave our unhappy pair kissing in the middle of the street in faraway Het Het, to go to DF, briefly, we hope, where we have a couple sharing a meal. One of the pair is not very happy and it shows, the other is very happy, but maybe it’s only for show. It’s Jana and Bossy Bore-us The Bull-y [gracias in part to Decie].)
Jana’s Surprise Lunch – Boris is quite animated. He’s brought out *the* engagement ring and has asked her to marry him. He takes Jana’s hand to put it on. She looks as though she just lost her appetite and might even lose her lunch, but Boris the Bull charges ahead. Jana doesn’t know how to resist. She frowns as he compels her to fix their wedding date. Finally, she reacts. Slow down, boy –I don’t know what I want yet; there are so many things I want to see and do; work at the corporate offices, or something else. –Ok, I won’t pressure you, but don’t delay setting the date! He grins at her. He wants to be married asap (cuanto antes). Jana’s talk with Padre must still be ringing in her ears; the prospect of being Mrs. Boris for the rest of her life gives her pause. Perhaps it was that her mother’s 5-year old threat of what she would do to Lorenzo if he came near her is still in play. Boris keeps up the no-pressure pressure by telling Jana how anxious his parents are to formally request her hand. Boris’ grin begins to fade as he becomes aware that Jana’s reaction is not one of a happy bride-to-be. (Good thing he didn’t try this on the giant public screen at the last soccer match between Mexico and El Salvador.) But, maybe he should have expected this, after all Jana has been cool and distant with him, but he’s hopeful that going along with his future suegra’s wishful thinking, or wishful hoping, or wishful prompting will engender a trip to the altar.
(We wonder, don’t we, what kind of matrimonial pair this will be—does Boris really love Jana as a person or will she be a trophy wife? We do know that he’s the jealous type, very jealous and that could be dangerous. Now we return to our momentarily interrupted Het Het Kiss.)
Het Het – The Kiss had both partners fully engaged. Finally, Luci breaks away, –This isn’t right; I can’t be alone with you. I always fall [into it] (siempre caigo). Rodrigo wants to know what is wrong with this Kiss, with being together, if they love each other. Luci has to explain (simpleton) –You are married–to Gala–and even if you don’t love her, she’s the mother of your child, your wife. I don’t want to be La Otra (the other woman). Rodrigo protests –You are not La Otra, you are La Unica (the only one). She disengages from his hold and leaves, hurrying down the cobblestone street with Rod following sadly behind, his fantasy world disappearing with her.
(We are surprised to be taken back to the DF where a pair united only by blood are together. She-who-has-everything-under-control is desperately begging for help from her sister, whom she normally treats in a most contemptible manner.)
TL Mansion – Roselena is afraid history is going to repeat itself (QTH?). Conny doesn’t know what she’s talking about (and neither do we). –After all these years of psychiatric help you should have found a little more peace. RE can’t find any peace, –I’m looking for some emotional balance in my house and in my children’s lives. –If you are talking about Rodrigo, ain’t gonna happen sis, as long as he’s married to Gala. RE says it’s not about them. They cannot separate; they have to stay together because they have a daughter that unites them. She’s talking about Jana, –I’m sure she’s still pining away for that Muerto de Hambre de Lorenzo. I caught her on the phone yesterday and she hung up and looked guilty as hell. I’m sure she was talking to... In comes poor innocent Mati with coffee, interrupting RE’s one track mind. Suddenly and inexplicably, Mati is grabbed by RE. Refugio Para el Amor #144 Tue 10/30/12 "Now Faith Is The Substance Of Things Hoped For, The Evidence Of Things Not Seen." Hebrews 11:1
Readers, you know
by now I need a template or structure to manage writing about all the
disparate characters and scenes in these episodes. And I've chosen
faith tonight, because it has been a vital part of this story
from the very beginning. Tonight as we look at our drama, we find
out who has faith, who has not, and who is making those first
tentative steps on the royal road. Hang on! Because it's a wild ride
as usual.
ROSELENA:
No Spiritual Faith. Only Fear. And the need for control that only
Fear engenders.
A fear which drives her to commit the most unthinkable of crimes,
allowing a newborn baby, blood of her blood, son of her son, to be
thrown away in the trash on a cold rainy night.
Fear, rather than Faith, leads her to control the lives of her
children with an iron hand.
She's decided that Jana will marry Boris, and now she's meeting with
Padre Honesto to decide their wedding dates. Padre Honesto weakly
protests that our “hijos son prestados” (our children are loaned
to us) but Roselena is quite certain that she owns
them. My children don't have the maturity to make their own
decisions, she asserts. So it's my job to decide what they should
do....until the Lord calls me home. Call me controlling if you must,
but I'm a caring mother. Not like some
mothers who lose their babies in the middle of the night in a storm!
Oh dear, forgive me padre, I shouldn't have said. It was my
grandchild, after all, she simpers.
Later,
Roselena is equally controlling during a confrontation with Gala and
don't-call-me-abuela-Julie. Gala is complaining that Rodrigo hasn't
slept with her since the conception of Alexis, and if he doesn't
start paying attention to her soon, she's going to unfaithful.
She's not cut out for chastity after all! She's particularly
incensed that Pato and Rodrigo are in San Francisco el Alto right
now...with the domestica...
Roselena:
If I find out you're cheating, I'll move cielo,
mar y tierra for him
to divorce you.
Gala:
If you want to lose Alexis, do it! In this country patria
potestad (custody) is
given to mothers, not fathers.
Julie: Chicas!...we're playing on the same team, aren't we?
Roselena:
Alabado sea el Señor (
Praise be to God), you [Gala] can liberate yourself from a life of
lust and dedicate yourself to your child! She only knows her nanny
and Brigida. She's a desconocida
(unknown person) for
you.
After this verbal tussle with Gala, Roselena is now ready to take on
the hapless Jana. When Boris comes calling, Rose nags Jana....
Rose:
Hurry up Jana. It's bad manners to keep your prometido
(fiancé) waiting.
Jana:
He's not my prometido,
he's only my novio
(boyfriend). Now that I've got my degree, I want to develop my
career in the corporativo.
Why do I have to marry right away?
Rose:
You can marry and still have your career. He's the ideal match, he's
of our class, his family has lots of money, he's got a bright future,
and I'm not la tonta
that you believe.
Once that taquero finds
out you're back from Europe, he'll try and get in touch with you. And
who knows what temptation you could fall into.
Jana: Mom, don't start.
Rose: I haven't forgotten what I promised five years ago. If he
approaches you, something VERY BAD will happen to him.
In
short, Roselena has no faith
in her supposedly
beloved children to choose their life course or their spouse. Only
she has the right and the alleged wisdom to decree what they will do
and with whom. She is ready to steal, cheat and even kill, if
necessary to ensure that her
will be done on earth.
At the very most, God is simply a Cosmic Vending Machine. She puts
in her pesos and collects her desired product.
Roselena is one of the most blasphemous characters I'v ever seen in
a telenovela. Truly blood-chilling.

Refugio Para el Amor #143 Mon 10/29/12 Five Years Later; Where Are They Now?
After the FIVE YEAR time jump caused a collective shock to
Viewerville’s system last episode, this episode we are still settling in and
catching up with our characters, and what they have been up to after so many of
their worlds fell apart or changed dramatically almost exactly five years ago.
Five years ago, Luci gave birth to little Roddy, then “lost”
him in a state of fear over a threatened kidnapping, and delirium caused by her
out of control blood pressure and post-operation meds. This loss caused a
ripple effect of grief through all of Luci’s and Rod’s family and friends, but
no one felt this tragedy more acutely than Luci.
Five years later, Luci is a sophisticated young
businesswoman and student, about to finish her last semester of business
school, focused on textile design. She plans on creating her own brand (marca)
of goods and will work with the women of San Francisco el Alto to produce the
products she designs under her brand. She still works at TL Corporation,
supports all the local orphanages providing them with food and supplies, runs
her foundation to provide economic opportunities for women in the North, AND
has continued the search for her son. She is truly Wonder Woman.

Refugio Para el Amor #142 Fri 10/26/12... Of time jumps, CUTE SWEET grown up kids, little girl and college age girl shipped away to school, did I say CUTE SWEET grown up kids? and 'where in the world is Pedro Campos'?
Refrito:
Rodrigo hugging Hanah, talking about how their parents now seem to be total strangers with very rotten sense of values.
Pato says 'our strength is in remaining together, loving each other, and our parents are our challenge, our dare. They are our biggest test of love.'
Luci tells Claudio about her meeting with little Mateo and how she felt to hold him and kiss him. Claudio says it is strange, especially since their meeting was more emotional rather than rational. Luci says what if that were my son? They said he was 4 mos old but he looked smaller (she freaks out repeating what he it were my son?) Claudio reassures her they will never stop looking for him.
At Chelo’s place, Chelo reads Luci’s business card and then puts it away in a drawer. Then remembers Luci telling him she wanted to help them, no questions asked.
Lo Nuevo:
Hanah in her room laying crying, Max comes in… visibly moved/repentant. He tells her she is grown up but there might still be things she does not understand about him, your mother and I have not been intimate for many years, no words of love, no physical intimacy… he has a need to be held, to be kissed…even for a little while… THAT is what keeps the world moving… to feel loved… I married your mother loving her, and look at us now. As if we were enemies. I hope you could forget/erase at least some of what happened today, and retain only the good things you have lived with your dad. Because your dad could come and go, he could be here and not be… but you will always be the most prized jewel, the most beloved woman of his life.(she is crying more while listening)
She won’t even turn to face him so he leaves quietly, visibly upset.
At Het Het, Teo is whining to Don Aq about his broken promises ‘if you scare Procopio I will give you his job at the funeral home’. Don Aq says Don Serapio wants Procopio to stay at funeral home and I can’t do anything about that. … Don Aq says why don’t you try moving to another town and scare someone there… Teo whines some more… which finally irritates Don Aq into just leaving…
At Curvas Continuas, Vio, Selene and Delia receive an unsolicited visit, Gala. Gala asks about Luci, she left. Since I am here why don’t you wash my car… Vio makes a whole ceremony for it putting the soap in the bucket(I would have put in some other things as well, like crushed poison ivy, some sulfuric acid, paint thinner, itchy powder, rubbing alcohol and rubbing compound for starters), stirring with her hand and then splashing Gala with the entire bucket full. Gala is drenched, either Selene or Delia calls Julie ‘espaguetti mexicano’ when she comes over to protest… Gala threatens Vio some and then she and Julie leave in a huff…
Pato calls Luci to let her know they will fly to Het Het tomorrow. He can tell she is a bit sad so she also tells him the story of her meeting with Mateo. He does not seem to get the same vibe as Claudio, more like brushes it off saying a few days at SFeA will do her a lot of good… She asks him how he is… he sadly tells her ‘I am ok’. (not! Not after the new dinner party gone haywire.)
Janah calls Lorenzo while in her room with Mati and we get another sweet convo over the phone. She is sad and needed to talk to him. He even offers to come see her even if he has to risk being caught by her mom… they agree to meet tomorrow… Lorenzo does not let her hang up. He confesses to her, with sweet difficulty, that he loves her… Janah has not noticed her wicked mother has made it in the room… She tells Lorenzo ‘I do love you too’. Both of them hang up not able to contain the joy… Janah turns to Mati yelling that Lorenzo loves her… YIKES!!!
Predictably, RE is beserk with anger… Janah cannot dare even turn around to look her in the eye… you are seeing the ‘taquero de barrio’. And if I could separate your brother from his sister, I will DEFINITELY separate you from him! I warned you! I warned you!. (with that she leaves Janah to find some consolation in Mati’s open arms).
Gala arrived home and threw her purse/bag at Frigida telling her to empty the bag and throw it out… We now see Frigida emptying the bag and guess what she found?? … wait for it… wait for it… Baby Rod’s hospital bracelet name tag!! Frigida says ‘I smell something bad/rotten’ (literally! And I bet it was not exactly the actual bracelet tag)
Melissa confesses to Connie that she is in love with Claudio… Connie not too happy to hear it since Claudio is old enough to be Melissa’s dad. Melissa tells her she also told Luci and Luci said the same thing Connie did. Connie asks Melissa what is it you are after? Melissa seems to imply that she wants someone to tell Claudio that she is in love with him. Connie says Claudio is a great man, but he just recovered his daughter and part of his fortune, so it would probably not be in his plans to find a young woman to marry, so forget any hopes of seeing your feelings corresponded. Give yourself time. You just became a lawyer… you cannot force love. Both sides have to be on same wavelength. And this is not your case.
Ofelia and Estelita tell Marianita that they can afford better education for her so they want to ship her to Puebla to a boarding school. (YIKES!!) It takes some convincing but they are able to convince Marianita that they will see her often enough, not all kids have this opportunity, and that it will be great for her future… (hmmmm!!... didn’t Marianita live years without her mother and now they want to separate them again??)
RE makes calls from kitchen to arrange that Janah gets shipped to Florence Italy for her college education (5 yrs straight without coming home). Mati is beside herself… RE claims this is the only way to separate Janah from Lorenzo and retain her ‘chastity/purity’. RE even calls Boris and asks him if he is willing to follow Janah to Italy to be with her these 5 yrs. Mati asks won’t you even ask Max? RE says nope, it is my call.
At Nicole’s salon, Vicky has finally returned to work to get over her grief… Nicole is congratulating her on a good business day… but in comes RE the witch to ruin the day… RE gives Vicky a speech as if RE were an undertaker showing her all her sins… Better stay away from Max, because otherwise I swear I will help you meet your dad sooner rather than later… Don’t worry about your dad, he is happy now, rather than suffering in this valley of tears… Just as RE leaves, Max calls Vicky on cell phone to warn her that RE discovered their affair. Vicky yells at him that RE was just there to threaten her and not to call her anymore, that IT IS OVER!!!
Patricio and Luci have arrived at Het Het and they are taking a tour of the shop at Magda’s old house… everyone is really happy. Namurachi thanks them again for the resources… Luci says what is important is that they are getting their biggest goal, to get help for their local women and get them working…
RE tells Janah about her plans to ship her to Italy when they are already on the way to the airport. She tells Janah that she is going to Florence Italy, and that it is to separate her from Lorenzo. You should have thought it better before you dared me. Janah tries to beg and whine her way out of it, to no avail. Five years!! (Mati has called Lorenzo to tell him… He is frozen upset, buckles his knees and sits on curb, almost having difficulty to absorb/process the news he just heard…Later Lorenzo arrives at the private airport but is too late, he can only watch the plane she is on taking off on the runway.. he can only repeat Janah … Janita… crying quietly..
(oh no… here we go… 5 years later…)
Chelo is finishing preparing the meal for Mateo… then he sings loudly to try to get Mateo to wake up and get up to eat… Mateo is so cute!! Luci’s face with black straight hair, but wit h a boy haircut. He is turning 5 years old today. Chelo has made him a small (tiny tiny) cake shaped like a 5 with a single candle…and Chelo sings the mananitas to Mateo.
We see Luci drawing a sketch of what she believes her baby would be like… from looking at the newborn baby picture… she painfully whispers ‘5 yrs, it has been 5 yrs’. She gets a call from Claudio to meet later, seems she has been able to survive drowning herself in work and her charity…
We see Mateo selling newspapers out in the rain at a busy intersection on the street when guess who drives to him… none other than Daddy Rodrigo himself!... they have a great joyful conversation… funny Mateo tells Rod that the paper is cheaper when there are bad news and more expensive when there are good news… they tell each other their names… Rod offers Mateo some gum, Mateo choses the berry one. Then they swap the money for the paper… SOOOO CUTE this Mateo is… SOOOO like Luci in the face… Chelo has been across the street selling papers to the opposite traffic and has been watching the interaction between Mateo and Rodrigo with a questioning / curious face.
(I have to say I did not like a 5 yr old boy in such a dangerous spot, selling papers at an intersection… but the face on this kid, and his interaction with his ‘don’t know it but you’re my’ dad was priceless!! And dad looks SEXY in his dorky black framed glasses)
At TL offices, Claudio is doing business as usual with Norma, Barrera has been in Argentina after the trail of Pedro Campos… Claudio is a bit flustered they have been trying to find PC for 5 yrs but not able to.
At Italy, Janah is more mature looking, with wavy hair… packing to return home.
At TL offices, there is a meeting where they spent more money than Max expected (almost 10 % over) on a hydraulic system to reprocess ‘black’ waters… Everyone else, including Claudio is for the tradeoff of doing ‘the right thing for the environment’ in exchange for the 2% reduction in profits… Even one of Rod’s friends reminds them that they also have a commitment/duty as a company to the environment, which overall is beneficial to the company since it has got a ‘environmentally responsible’ rating with the government. Max is still miffed, THIS IS A BUSINESS so we have to find a way to meet the goal for the environment without sacrificing the BUSINESS… Claudio just smiles…
At TL manor, RE is more anxious than ever with the arrival of Janah, even tells Mati to throw away a tomato that to me looked perfectly red and shiny…
Lorenzo and Fabi are doing well with a business they called ‘la canasta de Lorenzo… deliciosos tacos’… Lorenzo is on the street in the business van talking to Fabi checking on how things are going in the kitchen… He sees a plane fly by above and seems to smile, maybe he knows Janah is due to come back home anytime…
But in Italy, we learn that Boris and Janah are engaged, at least from what Boris says and Janah does not challenge… But she is definitely not very excited about the engagement… probably a forced engagement, maybe even RE told her either you get engaged or you don’t come back home (that was a guess on my part, not on the episode).
At Het Het Paz and Magda wonder if baby Rod would already be in Kinder at school somewhere since he is already 5 yrs old..
As if on cue, on the streets sitting at a park bench, little Mateo/Rod is asking Chelo why he is not in school. Chelo promises him he will home-school him to read, write and count, then later on will register him in school.
At the sky suite furthest from heaven, little Alexia looks very pretty, but has a very screechy voice… just arrived from school with the nurse. Frigida is there… Gala comes but is very distant from Alexia, is not even interested in seeing her school work, instead rudely sends her to her room with the nurse. Frigida is observing all this quietly. Gala asks Frigida if Rod called… Frigida very sarcastically says no ma’am, he has not called. (seems this is the usual routine of every day for Gala, who looks more un-happy than ever). Gala calls Rod at office, he is at a meeting with Claudio and the boys on a new project… Gala puts Rod on phone with Alexia… he asks her how school went… he can’t come home right now but will be happy if she tells him the story when he gets home tonight. Alexia hangs up with Rod and runs back to her room without saying a word to her mother. (sad to watch this as a mother that i am). Rod gets sad and tells the other men in the office that today would be his son Rod’s 5th bday.
Luciana is at an orphanage, speaking with the one who looks like a mother superior, about it having been 5 years and no word about her son yet. The MS is trying to prepare Luciana for the disappointment, the more time passes, the more difficult it will be to find your son… Luci says all she hopes is that whoever has her son is treating him right…
