Mentir Para Vivir #65 Wed 1/8/14 As Elvis would say, "Thank you, thank you very much."

Hermosillo--Casa de Ricardo
Everything is falling into place for la boda.  Marilu has even taken Tito to Paloma's house so he won’t be underfoot (hmmmph, he wasn't invited?)  Ricky enjoys a few flashbacks of his relationship with Oriana.

Preparations are underway in Fidelia's Purple Palace and the guests are starting to arrive, including Matilde, resplendent in a lavender suit to match the wall color.  She barely says hello to Fidelia as she enters.  Fidelia and Ruben share an awkward hello. The bride enters in a cute short wedding dress carrying a flower ball (is that what they're called?)  She looks really cute with her hair done up away from her face.  The ceremony begins.  Later, the couple signs the wedding license and voila!  It's done!  As the judge pronounces them man and wife, Oriana gets a sudden twinge in her hospital bed.   Something is amis in The Force. Marilu turns expectantly to Ricardo, all smiles. Ricardo gives his bride a peck on the cheek.  QTH?  Matilde annoyingly cheers for the happy couple, crying out "Beso! Beso! Beso!"  Her family is embarrassed.

Mentir Para Vivir #64 Tue 1/7/14 Suck It Up and Grow a Pair of Balls, Pretty Boy! (Words of Wisdom by Homero de la Garza)

Casa de Homero:  Paloma objects to Oriana moving in with Jose Luis.  In her current state, Oriana might fall in love with him again.  She reports that Ricky is also suffering because he can’t see his honey bunny.  Homero says that Oriana either cooperates with the sting or she goes to prison.  Besides, Ricky will have to grow a big pair of balls in order to get through this.  Paloma calls Homero a hardass.     Homero tells Paloma that Ricky marrying Marilu is a stupid idea.  Paloma says that the plan will work because Jose Luis is “dead”.  In order to take Rhodalina, Francisco would have to admit that he is Jose Luis and he will get sent to prison.  Homero says that the plan will never work because Francisco Falcon can prove that he is the father with a simple DNA test; he doesn’t have to admit that he is Jose Luis.  Fathers have rights.  The girl could be the result of an affair.  Homero thinks they can get around the law if Inez signs a notarized statement giving custody to Ricky and Marilu.

Mentir Para Vivir #63 Mon 1/6/14 Selective memory loss – the best kind of telenovela amnesia

Sorry for the delay, I’ve had a very busy day yesterday and wasn’t able to revise the recap until now. I hope you enjoy and maybe understand some of the stuff that happened better than I did.

Paloma is with Alina, explaining her that mom didn’t come home last night because she had to go on her trip. Why she didn’t even say ‘goodbye’ then? Because it was very late and Alina was already asleep. And mom went to the USA, which is far, but Alina doesn’t have to worry because mom loves her very much.
What about dad, what if he comes for her now? Alina inquires. Not to worry about that, he won’t be allowed to get in and besides, she’s going to stay with Ricardo for a while and everyone at his house will have good care of her.

At Trejo Bonfil Textiles, JL is pissed because Joaquin’s goon has come to keep an eye on him. Antonio interferes to remind him that they really need to start with their shady business activities. Ok, JL agrees; first, they have to find out who are Aresti-Breton’s suppliers and who are the local women working with them. Antonio needs a few days to find out all this information, so JL suggests to enlist Seb’s help, too (like that would help). After, he calls Eliseo, demanding to know where he is.
And why is that? Because JL sends the guy who is supposed to be watching him to kill Eliseo (or at least, that’s what I got from the scene).
And that is exactly what happens, even if Eliseo does smell the trouble and tries to attack first. One last smoke, a stare directly into the camera and his perplexed face at the thought that he’s about to kick the bucket and Eliseo is dead. Good riddance, you were mostly a useless bad buy. I hope you and Berto have a good time, wherever it is that you surely ended up together.

Mentir Para Vivir #62 Fri 1/3/14 Chitty Chitty Crash Bang!

Lo del Pasado:

Jose Luis has ordered Eliseo to follow Oriana now that she’s gone back to live with her “abuela”.  He’s also warned Els not to say a word about this to El Ho-boy Jefe de Joaquin.  El Tito can follow instructions better than Eliseo seems to cuz once Elis got back into the service van, he immediately got on the phone to Hoquin complaining.  Hoquin tells him to knock off either JL or the wife and kid.   Dun-dun-dunnnnnn!!!

Lo del Nuevo:

Lucina is waiting in the living room to speak to Oriana to give her the moral support Oriana had asked her for.  Lu is anxious cuz she’s worried about Oriana’s decision to go back to live with JL; she’s certain he’ll demand his marital privileges.   “—I’m so sorry to have gotten you involved in such a mess.”  Oriana reassures her she doesn’t blame her for trying to help her out of a jam cuz nobody could have imagined somebody would come looking out of the blue for Ines Valdivia and she did agree to go along with it.  As for sleeping with JL, say Ori, she’ll cross that bridge if and when she comes to it. (Cue the ostrich feathers and the sand.)    Lu asks how Ricardo’s taking it and figures he must be furious feeling so trapped [llevarse el tren= fig. to feel cornered, on a road with no exit, no way out] considering.

Speaking of the King of Rome, in another part of the manse, he is telling Paloma that he’s definitely a reluctant participant in this crazy plan of Homero’s, but they’ve got no choice and just hope that the situation doesn’t last long.  Pal’s worried about him marrying Marilu, especially since they used to be an item once.  Ric gets agitated. “--At least Marilu realizes it’s [a sham marriage], but Jose Luis will be continually insisting [fregar = to scrub at, rub at, do something nonstop] and constantly haranguing on Oriana  to comply.” (Yep, Ric, it does suck to be you about now.)

Mentir Para Vivir #61 Thu 1/2/14 Proponer para Conmocionar

Ruben comes home after a long day at work and pulls out some plans to review.  He's rudely interrupted by Matilde banging on his door.  She screams at him that that "golfa" (ho) Lucina had all her stuff moved into a newly-vacated room.  Ruben's cool with that and says it's probably best since he's been to a lawyer to start divorce proceedings.  She grabs the plans and shoves them behind her, crumpling them in the process, and says she won't give him a divorce, so there!  Ruben tells her that he filed on grounds of incompatibility and mistreatment.  Matilde accuses him for the millionth time of having a lover and their shouts of "Yes you do!" "No I don't!" attract Cesar's attention.  He tells them everyone can hear them.  Matilde keeps insisting she won't "give" him a divorce and as she's leaving Ruben shouts after her that he doesn't care, he's going to tell the judge that she refuses to fulfill her matrimonial duties and rejects him in bed.  Ay, Ruben!  Did you really need to tell that to the ENTIRE hotel?  And your son?  Ruben apologizes for letting Matilde get the better of him.  He says he's glad he somehow ended up with two good kids out of this mess of a relationship.  Cesar encourages him to visit Fabiola and give her his support.

Back to Marilu…will she, or won't she?

Mentir Para Vivir #60 Wed 1/1/14 Do you have a boyfriend? I need a wife, you wanna get married? oh yeah, Prospero Ano Nuevo!

Casa de Paloma
Homer gives Ori a choice -- confess all, and she'll end up in jail and Alina under protective custody (auspicio=protection).  He urges her to accept his plan and avoid prosecution for the identity theft and in the meantime they can find an adoptive family for Alina.  She can't be adopted by Paloma since they're not related.  Ricky offers to marry someone, anyone, so he can adopt her.  Homer suggests they think if over .  Ori is freaking out.

Outside, Ricky wonders if there's really no alternative to Oriana living with that beast.  He won't stand for it.  Homer wonders what it is about the plan that bothers him. (really, Homer?) Ricky lays out the obvious: #1 - JL will surely harass her (acosar) #2 - this is dangerous work.  JL is sure to kill her if she's found out, and #3 - how long is this expected to last, months, years?  Homer repeats, “Think it over.”  He would have liked to come up with another plan, but it's either this, or jail. Have a nice day.  I think Homer is enjoying this a teensy bit too much.

Mentir Para Vivir #59 Mon 12/30/13 Ric and JL get a makeover that involve their fists and fancy office furniture

Happy New Year!

Some scenes are combined, for a better flow

The old: Raquel and JL are kissing. JL asks Raquel to find out who Homero really is – if she doesn’t know how, she should maybe try using her pretty little head.

Boys will be boys
At Aresti Breton – Ric is in his office, for once appearing to be busy with work. Not for long, though, because JL is on his way to pay him a visit. The secretary announces his presence and Ric allows him in. JL looks serious, Ric looks serious... This can’t end well.
The talk starts harmless enough. JL wants the two of them to make a deal, because he needs to find out who Homero really is. But Ric isn’t willing to help, he thinks JL should go ask for himself.
As both men start to lose their temper (with Ric and JL this really isn’t all that hard), Oriana becomes the topic of their conversation.
JL: “Oriana es mi mujer.” (Oriana is my wife /or, considering the specimen talking/ Oriana is my woman)
Ric: No, Oriana is a widow, and I am with Ines.
And so the screaming starts. Ric demands JL to give Orines her freedom back, especially since she doesn’t love him anymore. JL reminds Ric of his past mistakes (the supposed rape) and accuses him of having brainwashed his wife.
This prompts Ric to jump on JL and a real fight ensues, just as theatrical and choreographed as the one they had a few months ago, in the rain. Somehow I got to recap that one, too, so I feel I’m an expert in JL/ Ric brawls.
Anyway, they throw some punches, some in slow motion, some in fake motion (as in - you can totally see they’re not real punches); JL falls over Ric’s round bookcase thingy and then it’s Ric’s turn to lose his balance. He’s on his back, on the desk and JL is trying to choke him. So Ric pulls out a gun and points it at JL, just as Mariano (sand Plaid, just Plain) comes to stop the carnage (not really). JL screams “Te vas a repentir, gusano!” (You’ll be sorry, you worm) and leaves.
Mariano looks shocked that Ric would have a gun. Was he going to use it?
Who knows, Ric honestly answers. This guy won’t stop until one of us is dead.
Just then Oriana calls Ric to tell him about JL latest outrageous act: she called her a drug addict in front of Homero. Ric is for once in no mood to talk to Oriana and appease her poor nerves, so he makes up an excuse about having to work and hangs up.
He doesn’t look too good, though, so Mariano takes him to the hospital.

Mentir Para Vivir #58 Fri 12/27/13 Oriana Tells All And Gets Ready For The Ball And Chain

~~Holiday Week's Greetings! ~~

Jose Luis goes into a major meltdown over the phone while griping to his would-be ex, Oriana, aka Ines, because his giving her the gift of the stolen .44 used in Ricardo’s daddy’s murder didn’t impress her in the least.  She wasn’t moving back in and to hell with him and the jack-ass he rode in on!

Oriana, in her bathrobe and ABS (anything but sexy) terry-fuzz slippers, is seen by Martin heading in the same direction as Ricardo—towards Palomita’s old “playroom” --and he mentions it to the staff.  He thinks that Dona Paloma needs to know that the two of them have apparently been getting it on late at night in some obscure part of the manse.

At the same time, Oriana is no longer in “the mood”.  She is too worried and upset by Jose Luis’s renewed phone threats to reopen her case in Columbia and to have her “cleared” signature questioned and reviewed by a different expert because she refuses to return to Ft. Fakecisco with Alina.   Bummer for Ric.   He’d had high hopes for a night of nookie.   All he can do is to watch over her sleep from his place on the floor by the playroom door.

Weekend Discussion: New Stars? New Stories? Or Both?

I've been seeing posts over the last year or so about “We need new young stars” and we've had discussions in the past about developing new stories for our maturing favorites. I don't see this as an either/or, but perhaps as being a dual issue.

Televisa stopped producing stories directed at teens due to lowered ratings a few years ago. I'd personally love to know whether that was because of outdated story types or declining attention spans among teens, which is a subject that comes up all the time and is probably a worldwide problem. At the same time we've discussed how remaking the same stories again and again is both lazy production and evidence of risk-adversity.

There are some changes happening now, as we see with Mentir Para Vivir and Por Siempre Mi Amor, whose lead characters are a little more mature than usual. They start out with spouses, children, other family members, and more secrets than usual. Their lives are already complicated before the curtain goes up on the opening episode. We are seeing more teens and more children in these stories; I suspect that this is to provide employment for the child and teen actors that would have been in the teen and kid programs that aren't being produced. It's one of the reasons that many series are now longer than they would have been fifteen years ago.

I'm not a kid anymore myself and it sickens me that the entertainment industry already targets youth often at the expense of adults who have more discretionary income to attend movies and spend money on cars advertised on TV. We all want to see ourselves in television characters and we want to see something that's realistic. What we don't want is a world where someone's acting career is over because they're over 35 and overexposed (in the sense of being hyped) young stars with minimal experience and less talent.

Sound off, amigos.

Mentir Para Vivir #57 Thu 12/26/13 Comer para Festejar

At the rooftop bar of Francisco's hotel, Sebastian meets with Francisco, who calls him an idiot for arguing with Leonardo in front of his godfather.  Francisco still wants him to act like a decent human being, and clearly, fighting with the figurehead president's godson isn't the way to do it.  As Sebastian goes to the potty and asks Antonio and Francisco to order him another drink, Francisco comments to Antonio that they've made a mistake with him.  Antonio agrees, but says he now knows too much for them to be able to fire him.  Antonio has the accountant on the hook, but he won't tell him what the business is really about until he's got a fat check in front of him.  He doesn't think Escalona will back out, though, because he's got money problems.  As for Sebastian, it would be difficult to get rid of him.  Ricardo would get upset.  It's Sebastian who hates Ricardo, but Ricardo doesn't feel the same way.  As far as Leonardo goes, Antonio has found out relatively nothing, except that the armored car didn't come from Hermosillo.  He has no idea who Leo's grandfather is and he figures only Ricardo or Inésiana could tell him.

Maria's memorial mass is being said.  Everyone looks sad.

Leonardo tells Homero that Sebastian is nuts and the only reason he didn't put him in his place is that his godfather was there.  He's found out that the investors are Caribbean Investments Company, but that Francisco Castro only set up the partnership--he doesn't have a position in the company.  Homero says that was smart of him.  As president of the company, it's Trejo Bonfil who will be going down for any shady business.  He doesn't think there's anything to warn him about yet--they have no proof that CIC is going to be using the company to launder money.  They'll have to wait.

Mentir Para Vivir #56 Wed 12/25/13 Feliz Navidad! There is no comfort and joy for Paloma’s family tonight.

No Hay Noche de Paz en la Casa de Paloma
Fabi announces she plans to marry Piero.  Matilde quickly asks about his family connections.  Paloma sarcastically says he's from the Windsor family and Matilde doesn't pick up on the joke.  When it's made clear to her, she's angry with Paloma for making a joke at a time like this.  (I don't like Maddie but I have to agree with her here).  She insists on knowing about his family and what type of person he is (again, I agree).   Cesar stands up for Piero but she still asks how is she to know he isn’t just after the money Paloma will eventually leave Fabi.  (good point)  She's her mother and has a right to know.  Paloma is angry, saying what she's doing isn't just to find out information, she's just wasting time (enchinchar) and besides didn't she say she'd rather see her marry the first guy who crosses the street than to see her as an single mother?  Maddie defends her actions, insisting that was just a figure of speech (first guy who crosses the street).  Of course she wouldn’t want just anyone to marry her daughter, much less an opportunist (vividor).  Paloma defends Piero, saying she's known him a long time and he's a good guy. Well, if he's such a good guy, asks Maddie, why doesn't he come himself to speak to her?  She insists they call him, now. Mariano (sans plaid shirt) suggests that Fabi and Piero have a discussion and decide what to do.  Ruben butts in too, saying that as the head of this family he should be the one speaking with Piero.  Maddie scoffs at him--saying he's nobody.  Paloma tells her to shut it and consider what she's done to her family.  Her husband and son have left the home because they can't stand her and now Fabi is prepared to marry the first guy who proposes just so she doesn't have to marry that ne'er do well, Seba!  Maddie insists this has to do with her family.  Mariano reminds her that a family doesn't consist of just one person.  A family involves a father, mother, and children.  Even if Maddies doesn't like it, Fabi has the final say in this case.  Whoa, now Maddie calls her own daughter a floosie (cualquiera). Ruben jumps in to defend his daughter. There's no reason for Maddie to insult their daughter in front of everyone.  Maddie insists she has every right, "I'm her mother!"  "And I'm her father" shouts Ruben.  M--"A father who ran out to go live with a whore (ramera)!  And I want a divorce!"R--"Suits me just fine!" Paloma steps in,"Fine, get a divorce, but stop arguing in front of everyone."  Mariano quietly suggests they each speak with Fabi and Piero separately.  Maddie insists she'll be the one talking to them.  Alina chooses the wrong moment to come in and say she and Tito are bored waiting in  the bedroom.  Maddie shouts at her for interrupting.  Oriana defends her daughter, telling Maddie this will be the last time she raises her voice to Alina, clear?  Maddie doesn't' respond but has a smug look on her face.  Ori takes Alina to the other room.  Paloma asks Cesar, Fabi, Ruben, and Mariano to join her in her bedroom.  She tells Matilde she can just to hell. Maddie whines that no one understands her -- she's the mother!  The scene ends with a close up of a Madonna-like painting of a woman with three babies.  (haha, they blurred out the bum of one of the babies)

Mentir Para Vivir #55 Tue 12/24/13 Two Hookers Own the Casa Bonita Brothel and Occupancy is Still at an All Time Low? What's Up With That?

Down by the seashore, Piero asks Fabiola if she will consider marrying him.  He’s on the rebound and wants a sweet young thang in his life and since she’s gotta a biscuit in the oven who needs a daddy….he thinks that they might be able to help each other out.  For her birthday, he gives her a small box from Tiffany’s, hinting that there’s more where that came from.  I’ll be your J. Howard Marshall or Howard K Stern (whichever you prefer) and you can be my Anna Nicole Smith.  He tells her that he loves her and hopes that she might eventually come to love him too.  Piero leaves her at the beach with a lot to think about it.

Mentir Para Vivir #54 Mon 12/23/13 The Fabulous Foursome interrupted by a busy body

The old: Homero Poirot de la Garza started his investigation of the many secrets of the Aresti-Bretton & Friends gang.
Homero: “Why do you need all the guards?”
Fidelia: “To protect my porcelain dolls collection. There are a lot of robberies in the area.”
Homero: “Yeah… Do you think I’m stupid? You don’t look like a woman with a doll collection. You look like a bad liar. Are you hiding from Francisco Castro or Jose Luis Falcon?” (Or the narcotraficantes? They are very in demand these days, they should be involved in every telenovela).

The new: Paloma asks Homero to butt out; does he plan to take everything that she loves away from her? No, he explains, that’s not what he wants, he intends to help. But Paloma can’t take his help in her fragile state, she starts to faint, so everyone scolds Homero for bothering her – doesn’t he know she’s a sick woman?
Leo and Ric are especially firm and Homero tries to defend himself by saying that he wasn’t aware of how serious her condition was. (How could he if 5 minutes after he showed up, he started using his magnifying glass in search of detective clues?).
He thinks Ric and Leo are a par of imbeciles - pair of imbeciles (Ric’s face is priceless when he hears this, but he takes it like a bog boy); don’t they realize they could all be in grave danger? And things will only get worse if they don’t decide to talk. Ric should especially consider this, since he says he loves Ines so much.
He leaves to search for a hotel room (what, Fidelia is at full capacity?) and Leo urges Ric to tell Homero the entire story, because Abuelo already knows a lot of bits and pieces.

Mentir Para Vivir #53 Fri 12/20/13 Tito’s Grand Return Comes At A High Price

[MENTIR BEGINS AT 7 PM EASTERN TONIGHT! --ED.]

capítulo 53

Lo Del Pasado:

Homero, Leo and Ricardo have just been shot at and Grandpa Spooks lets Ric know that he’s well aware of quite a bit of what’s been going on with him and the Aresti family.  It’s just a matter of fitting all the pieces correctly to put that puzzle together.  Being shot at is not something Homero would consider a normal sort of familial problem, he has insisted.  Therefore, since he knew Gabe, he’s told Ric if Ric needs his assistance he’s there to help out.  Ric isn’t sure that he can trust the man.  Viewerville isn’t either cuz El Grandpa Spooks de Homero has just put in a call to Manolo.

Lo Del Nuevo:

Manolo informs Spooks where he can find the old owners of El Descanso at the time of Gabe’s murder, namely, Lucina.

Leo tries to assure Ric on his way out of Spook Manor that his gramps is really a fair guy and that he can be counted on.  Ric still refuses to let Leo come to the beach house with Tito, preferring to keep things on the Q.T. as much as possible since others are following him and obviously mean to kill him.  Leo asks who, but Ric keeps mum and leaves.

Mentir Para Vivir #52 Thu 12/19/13 Disparar Para Asustar

Padre Plaid puts on his serious priestwear and gets chewed out by the Bishop for beating the snot out of Sebastian.  But, Your Grace, Padre Plaid has witnesses!  Sebastian totally had it coming!  The Bishop brings up Padre Plaid's previous lusting after Oriana and says he needs to spend some time wrestling with his conscience.  He's also been suspended from saying Mass or administering any sacraments.  He wants Padre Plaid to think about what kind of life he wants to live.

Raquel joins Ruben in the dining room.  Ruben tells Raquel he's got problems…and Matilde is one.  Raquel asks if he likes Lucina and tells him it shows.  He knows nothing can ever happen between them.  He's a married man, and even though he doesn't have feelings for Matilde as a woman, they do have a history.  He tells Raquel about throwing Fidelia over for Matilde.  He recalls hanging out at Fidelia's house in Bahia de Kino.  Lupe brings the drinks in.  Ruben says he'd like to go back to BdK to recall those old times.  He admits he's "fond" of Fidelia still and they toast to that.

Matilde begs Cesar to tell her where Fabiola is, but he doesn't think he can trust her not to force Fabi to marry Sebastian.  Matilde says there's no way she could do that, since Fabi is nearly 18.  She begs Cesar to find out, since he claims he doesn't know.  She wants him to convince Padre Plaid to tell him.  She turns on the waterworks and says Fabi needs her mother at a time like this and she's going to support her no matter what.  I have this bridge for sale….

Mentir Para Vivir #51 Wed 12/18/13 Rocky Mariano wins this round, Gramps is a spook, and Tito’s a no-show tonight :(

Holy Gym of Comeuppance
When last we saw el "Cura Metiche", as Seba calls him, he had just given Seba just a bit of the comeuppance he's got coming to him.  He delivers to blows to the old breadbasket and then has Seba by the throat and asks him if he'd like to die.  Padre appears to be afraid of his own strength and backs off.  Sebas, never one to know when enough is enough, lunges after the good Padre when his back is turned.  Padre makes quick work of him and throws him against the bookcases, which aren't very secure cuz they fall right over.  He reaches to help him up then tells him to leave. Apparently, Sebas has had enough “spiritual counseling” for one night and finally leaves.  Padre is left alone to pick up the pieces.

Outside, Sebas, con cara de mil chingazos, calls a friend. The phone rings at the beach house. Marilu announces it's Sebas.  Paloma wants to answer but Oriana figures it would be best to ignore him. Sebas is really pithed and races away from the church.

Mentir Para Vivir #50 Tue 12/17/13 Sebastian is Going Straight to Hell Wearing Gasoline Soaked Green Jeans While Riding on an Turpentine Layered Conveyor Belt

Aresti Mansion: Sporting a grey business jacket, Sebastian barges into the Aresti living room and marches around searching for Fabiola. Matilde interrupts his quest in order to educate him on the proper way that a guest should enter a home, but he's not interested in etiquette lessons. Sebastian demands to know the whereabouts of Fabiola. She informs him that her daughter is on vakay. She asks what's so important. I knocked up your daughter and we gotta get married, says Sebastian. Matilde sneaks him with a quick right cross, but Leonardo yanks her away before she can follow through with a powerful left upper-cut. Leonardo orders Sebastian to leave. Sebastian tells Leonardo to butt out and find some business of his own. Leonardo steps all up into Sebastian's face and Sebastian swings at him. Leonardo side-steps the punch and knees his attacker in the gut. Sebastian runs out of the room, but not before threatening to kill Leonardo and saying that Fabiola will lose her chance with him if she does not say yes. After hearing the commotion, Nadia, the maid, runs into the room to comfort Matilde. Leave me alone, screams Matilde! Leonardo wants to know who the identity of the guy he kneed just in case there's a lawsuit. Nadia tells him that he just kicked Sebastian Sanchez Bratt-on.

Mentir Para Vivir #49 Mon 12/16/13 Everyone and their mama finds out that Fabiola is pregnant; the last to know – Fabi’s actual mama.

I apologize for any spelling mistakes/ long sentences... I'll get back to the recap later today to polish it.

Last week, before the long weekend break: Cesar decided to defend Fabiola’s honor by beating up Piero and threatening to throw him into jail. Piero didn’t say anything to defend himself, except that Cesar should talk to his sister.

Today: Fabiola is talking with Padre Plaid at Mansion Aresti, explaining to him that Piero is not the baby daddy, he’s just her confessor – she didn’t really make this clear to Cesar, though.
Paloma walks in and wants to know what is going on. Fabiola explains that she’s done something terrible and her mother is going to kill her for it – she’s embarasada and Seb is the father.
Paloma makes a CRAP!  Cara, but hugs Fabiola.

At the same time the proud daddy to be receives a visit from his faux bro, Ric. They get into it when Ric asks Seb if he seduced or raped Fabi. Whatever the case, if he doesn’t marry her, he’ll end up in jail, because she’s a minor.
(Excuse me as I take a pause to express my feelings about Ric’s hypocrisy – when he supposedly left a minor pregnant, daddy shipped him off to school in another country and paid off the mother-to-be, but Ric has no problem forcing marriage on Seb – YES, he’s a creep, but because he’s a creep, they shouldn’t want Fabiola tied to him forever.)
As Ric storms out, Antonio comes to talk about Seb’s bright future as a president to the shady negocio he and Fauxcisco Castro are setting up. He finds out what his maybe spawn has been up to lately. Is Antonio’s heart filling with pride at the idea that his son is following in his footsteps by impregnating a minor? No, he’s pissed because another scandal is the last thing Seb needs after the whole paternity debacle.

Weekend Discussion: Controversial Subjects

Tuesday's capitulo of Lo Que La Vida Me Robó provoked over 100 comments regarding the marital rape scene that echoed Gone With the Wind in many respects [GWTW's scene is still being debated today]. This may not have been the ideal way for the writers to handle the wedding night of our flawed but otherwise sympathetic protagonists, but a lot of bytes are being seriously inconvenienced in internet postings from viewers debating all the same hypotheses and issues we raised on Wednesday morning.

Which – por supuesto – is always good for ratings.

Several other series have provoked discussion in the last few years over other highly controversial actions and interactions:
