Mi Marido Tiene Familia #77, 12/12/2017: Unrelenting Fathers, Sisters in Black, and a Call to Motherhood

Thoughts and memories in italics

Marisol walks into Dani’s workshop accompanied by Blanca. After Blanca gives Linda and Dani a big hug, she tells them she missed them so much; Dani and Linda missed her too. Blanca asks them to forgive her for leaving, but she had to do it. When Mari tells her that she is needed in every corner of the house; Blanca replies that she needs them in every corner of her soul. As she told them in the letter, she loves them and they have nothing to do with the situation. Dani assures her that they understand and won’t reproach her for anything; Blanca can count on them. When Blanca tells them how important their support is, Linda wonders how many more days it’ll be before she returns, but Blanca doesn’t know. She assures them she will try to hurry…put everything she is feeling and thinking in order; there are too many things. Blanca asks them to take care of their grandmother, their father, and her granddaughter. When she tells them that she knows she isn’t perfect, but she is striving to be a better woman and a better mother for them, Dani urges her to do it for herself; she has given them everything. Mari adds that Blanca has always supported them and she deserves it. After Blanca tells them she wants to be stronger for each one of them, Dani has something to tell her; her dream was realized. Dani then takes out her engagement ring and puts it on as she tells Blanca that Gabriel proposed to her. Blanca jumps with joy and hugs Dani. Blanca shouts, “What joy! You deserve to be happy, daughter; you deserve to be loved.” As she looks at her three daughters, she tells them that the three of them deserve it; that is what she asks God for the most. Blanca cries as she tells them to strive to have a happy life and to not stop being themselves. They hug as Blanca tells them she loves them.

Mi marido tiene familia Monday 12/11/17 Capítulo 76: The Intransigence of the “Machista Old World Order”

Sadly, tonight I heard The “últimos capítulos” announcement for the first time which was a reminder that we are on capítulo 76 of only 102.

Anyway, on with the story . . .

Robert is at the orphanage. He is talking to his mother on the phone. She is in in tears but overall is fine. She is going to stay with her sisters for while. He misses her and she misses him and his sisters. She needs them to understand her. He will not come to see her because he understands that she needs her space. By the way, Eugenio misses her, too. Blanca sadly laughs and tells Robert that Eugenio is a different matter. She loves Juan Pablo and wants him to tell her daughters she loves them too. Robert reminds her that they all miss her a lot and will all be waiting for her when she is ready to come back. The phone call ends and Robert is looking so sad that Dave comes over to give him a hug.

Bruno talks Linda into coming over to Julieta’s apartment amd gives her the old song and dance act about them not being able to tell anyone that they are novios. Linda is sick of their relationship being kept a secret. He blames it all on Julieta. He promises he will make it public in less than a week without realizing that Julieta had been there listening the whole time. They kiss and Linda tells him that he has one week. With that, Julieta appears and surprises the both by saying they aren’t going to need a week.

Mi Marido Tiene Familia #75, 12/8/2017: New Beginnings with New Perspectives

Juls tells Blanca that she understands her and is there to support her, but Blanca would like to know where her support was when what she needed was to be told the truth; Juls also kept it from her. Juls explains that if they didn’t tell her, it was to avoid destroying the happiness she was feeling. When Blanca insists that she had a right to know, Juls justifies that it wasn’t her place to tell her—it was Robert’s, Eugenio’s and Ana’s decision and she had to respect their decision. Blanca replies that they always pass over her; she always tells them everything regardless of whether she should or shouldn’t—she just blurts them out. She shares with them all her happiness and pain. When she asks why they didn’t share this with her if it was about her, Jul replies that it was to spare her more pain. Juls assures her that Eugenio and her children love her very much. Juls then extends her hand and Blanca takes it. They go for a walk to continue talking. Blanca is feeling thousands of emotions—anger, frustration, sadness, resentment. She then asks Juls how she would feel if Robert keeps something very important from her, but Juls confides he already has; and it hurt her very much. Blanca points out the same is happening to her; she has spent all her life getting orders from Don Eugenio. He tells her to talk or not talk; he calls her meddlesome, a gossip…he tells her to give her opinion or not to…or not to cry. He even asked her to consider her son dead! She has reached her limit; she doesn’t think it’s fair.

Mi Marido Tiene Familia #73, 12/5/2017: Years of Torment Unleashed as Prince Charming Emerges

Thoughts in italics.

[Previously: At Ana’s house, Tulio tells Blanca that Ana’s salvation depends on Blanca…that she forgive Ana. Blanca doesn’t understand what she has to forgive and tells Tulio he is making her nervous. When Tulio confesses that it was Ana who kidnapped her son,] Blanca can’t believe it, “Ana took him from the market? No, no…it’s not real...” Tulio then tells her Ana was under the care of a psychiatrist that had her under medication. When he starts to tell her about that day, Blanca shouts, “Shut up! Say no more!” but Tulio continues that day Ana had her third miscarriage and she was obsessed with having a child. Blanca cries, “And that is why she took mine?” When Tulio continues that his mother wanted him to look for another woman who could give him children, Blanca cries, “Why was I at fault for that? What fault did my 4 year old son have…Oh, God! I gave her my love and my trust all those years. She was like another sister to me! How...could she abandon my son? She knew I couldn’t sleep because of the guilt and the pain. It was years that I asked that my son return.”

Mi marido tiene familia Monday 12/4/17 Capítulo 72: Wedding Festivities and the Madness of Guilt

On with the wedding and a whoospie on my part. I fell asleep and the VCR was set to the wrong channel so I missed the wedding ceremony itself. Feel free to fill in any of the ceremony details in your comments.

My coverage starts tonight with Tulio having pursued an almost catatonic Ana to a park bench. He takes off his suit jacket and put it around her. Tulio talks about the rage that he feels towards his mother and towards everyone else that made his life so bad. They are the ones who are responsible for Ana being like she is living in the terror that one day she will become lost in her own thoughts. He draws her to him as she just stares straight ahead, smooths her hair and kisses her cheek.

Back at the wedding, Julieta and Robert are kissing at the reception. Of course, they show us all of the wonderful food that is being served. Luz is raving about the food. Polita says that Bequita made the food and she is the best cook in Oaxaca. Julieta tells Amalia and Blanca that she does not know how to thank them for what they did for her and Robert. imelda says they just have to enjoy the wedding. Eugenio calls Imelda and Blanca over to him. Xavi makes an announcement about it being his turn to give his gift to the bride and groom. He sings their love theme “Llegaste a mi vida” (You Arrived in My Life). Robert and Julieta dance. Julieta asks if Robert can believe all this and that it is happening to them who didn’t believe in marriage. Robert tells her that even if they would have never married, he would have been with her the rest of his life. She finally says she loves him. He accuses her of loving to torture him. They continue with the sweet nothings as they dance And kiss. The guests cheer. Xavi sings.

Mi marido tiene familia Friday 12/1/17 Capítulo 71: Farewell to the Single Life!

Imelda is still at Tulio’s having it out with her son. She asks him if he has not come to realize that everything could have a solution. She ended up loving Ana as a daughter and asking about her as well as seeing her every day. Now, they prefer to exact revenge. Ana looks upset as Audifaz witnesses the whole scene sadly from the hallway. Imelda will not permit them to ruin her family. He can say what he wants to her but not to her family. Even if she herself has to start to work, they are going to pay him back all of his filthy money. Tulio and Ana should face what they did and stop being cowards. Imelda starts to leave and sees Audifaz in the hallway. She is so glad to see him. She asks him to help her leave. Audifaz tells her that he had no idea what was going on. He asks her if that is why she got ill. She nods and tells him that Blanca knows nothing about this and she is asking him not to tell her. She doesn’t want more people suffering. Audifaz kisses her hand, puts his arms around her and escorts her from Tulio’s house.

Ana, despondent, goes to her bedroom and throws herself across the bed. She angrily informs Tulio that they finally got his mother to hate them. Tulio insists that she already did. Imelda only looks out for herself. He will not be intimidated by her threatening him. Ana is getting more and more upset. She shouts at Tulio that his mother almost died. Enough is enough. Tulio is not moved. Because of his mother, he almost lost the woman he loves. Does she want him to let them be happy after that? His mother should have thought about that before ending their relationship.

Mi Marido Tiene Familia #70, 11/30/2017: “The Birds and the Bees…Really?” OR “Showdown at Tulio’s”

Previously: At the bakery, Juls tells Robert that she wants both families to know he is her magnet. Both Catita and Hugo Sr. urge her on. As everyone watches, Juls nervously gets on her knees and Robert follows. Juls asks, “Do you want to marry me? I have made up my mind to spend the rest of my life with you…because I love you; and you are that marvelous person that my heart attracted…like a magnet. Robert stands pulling Juls up with him and says, “Opa, my Opa, I want to say that I cannot find the words to appreciate the favor. Of course, I will!” After everyone cheers, he continues, “I don’t doubt it for one moment. I accept to marry you and spend the rest of my life with you because I love you…I love you, I love you…” As they kiss, everyone cheers and claps…with Linda having a sour look and joining in hesitantly. Juls places the ring on his finger and they kiss again with everyone huddling around them and chanting, “Magnet, magnet…”

Later that evening—

Aris leaves the bakery as Diana follows and asks when his parents will be going to the school. Aris thinks it’s enough with the scolding he already received from the school personnel, but Diana insists that it is for his own good; his parents and she need to discuss his future.

Mi marido tiene familia Wednesday 11/29/17 Capítulo 69: Hopes for the Future-OR-Applause All Around

Looks like they started a few minutes early eventhough all of the listings showed them ending a few minutes early but not starting a few minutes early. The usual Univision shenanigans . . . Anyway . . .It looks like Gabriel has ended up at the Córcega’s with Daniela for dinner. He willingly calls Blanca “mamá suegra” and is told by Imelda that “Imelda” is just fine by her. He has brought them both gifts and seems to be a hit with both of them. He loves the food so much he applauds.

Outside of the apartment building, Robert and Eugenio confront Tulio about the document he had Imelda sign. Tulio states that it was the correct and legal thing to do. He did not force her to sign it. Robert does not believe him and asks him if he did not take advantage of the fact that she was ill. Tulio doesn’t want to hear about their “victimization”. Eugenio wants to know if their mother knew what she was signing. Eugenio thinks that Tulio fooled her which is neither legal or correct. Tulio gets straight to the point. The document is already signed and he needs his money or they had better get ready to turn over the apartment building and the bakery to him. Robert interrupts saying it is one thing to talk about the money that is owed him and another is blackmail. Tulio tells Robert if he is going to act as the defender of the Córcega’s then he can pay him what is owed to him. As of now, Robert has not deposited not one peso into his account. Isn’t he a successful doctor? Tulio then remembers Robert is renting an apartment in "this" neighborhood in the city. Robert reminds Tulio of the deal they initially had. The Córcega’s would stay quiet about the abduction of Juan Pablo  and Tulio would forget the debt. Is not Tulio a man of his word? Tulio says okay then since Robert deals with problems like a man. Tulio then turns to Eugenio and says it is pretty bad when Robert has to stick up for him. Eugenio lunges for Tulio. Robert pushes him back. Tulio insists that he is only telling the truth. Robert informs Tulio that he will not allow him to threaten his family. He thought that Tulio’s word meant something but he is realizing that he is just a liar. When they pay him the debt, he hopes that he and Ana go straight to the hell they deserve. Tulio finds it interesting that Robert is giving him the conditions of the deal. Robert tells him to stay away from his family or he will pay the consequences. They leave Tulio standing outside of the apartment building.

Mi Marido Tiene Familia #68, 11/28/2017: A Strange Proposal, a Makeover, and Return of the Matriarch

Previously: Robert tells the family that Imelda is stable but will need extreme care; how quickly she recovers will depend on that. Everyone is happy as Robert tells them they should go home and get some rest. Eugenio thanks Robert for being with them; and Blanca hugs and thanks him too.

At the restaurant, Dani thinks about Clarissa telling her that her relationship with Gabriel will not last very long…and being called a tomboy/butch. She goes to Gabriel’s office, so he asks what she’s doing there. She tells him her grandma is stable and she is there to make up some hours. Gabi thinks she should be with her family, but Dani also wants to talk to him. She wants him to listen to her without drama or shows or anything else he tends to do when they have serious things to talk about. Gabi denies putting on shows, but then concedes. Dani doesn’t want him to have problems with his family because of her. She spent all her life thinking that all her family’s sadness was because of her. She doesn’t want to create problems for him. Neither of them are alone and she knows that his father and sisters are important to him. Gabriel argues that she is more important. When he admits that there are things spinning around inside his head making noise, Dani comments that she doesn’t want to cause more noise, but he argues that he can resolve them as long as she is with him. She is not, and will never be a problem for him. He went through life not knowing where he was going or who to love. Then he met her; and ever since then, he knows exactly where he is going and who he loves…and it’s her.

Gabriel reminds him they are no longer in the 1950’s but in 2017. His father goes on to tell him that social classes still exist today and Daniela is not up to theirs. Gabriel refuses to be the fool any longer fixed on material goods or brands. Augusto finds his “tale of a united proletariate” blah, blah, blah very cute. Gabriel will go out to play in the “mud” and will return to his Jacuzzi to bathe with toiletries that cost more than what his “girlfriend” is wearing. Imelda tells Eugenio all about Ana coming everyday and listening to her talk about how much she missed Juan Pablo. Imelda feels responsible for having rejected her. Eugenio insists that she is not responsible for Ana having taken Juan Pablo or for the years of suffering that she caused them. Tulio and Ana could have looked into alternatives like adoption. Hugo talks on the phone to Julieta about having dinner tonight with their father and tells her that it might not be such a good idea. Catalina is playing spy and wants to know what is going on. Previously: At Ana’s house, Ana stands beside Tulio as he tells RobPablo that he has made it clear to Eugenio that he wants a payment plan for the money he owes them…instead of wasting time crying about it. As Robert stands with his hands on Eugenio’s shoulders, Eugenio retorts that every time he thought of them, he would feel sorry for them because he knew they were both very miserable…but they deserve it. Robert tells Eugenio they should leave; and as they walk away, Ana turns to Tulio and looks disconcertedly at him.

As they drive home, Robert tells Eugenio he shouldn’t have put himself out like that; Tulio will try to get back at him. Eugenio knows, but he couldn’t just let things go; he was very angry…and desperate; he had to tell Tulio to his face, and he said it. He couldn’t stand the hypocrisy; they were even invited into his home. At least now they know that he doesn’t like them at all. Robert then asks Eugenio to swear that he won’t say anything to his mother or grandmother and that he is going to take care of himself. Eugenio hesitates, but swears and thanks Robert for not saying anything in front of his mother. When he then asks Robert what they will do about his illness, Robert replies that he is obligated to tell him that the osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease. He has to take care of himself and follow the medical instructions to the letter.
