Pasión y Poder #24 Martes 12/8/15

Chapter 24: Paterfamilias

One thing about people with this kind of money and influence that always gets me is the degree to which they retreat into the past. Thus women often put up with infidelity in their husbands, some even endure horrific abuse to some of these megalomaniacs all in the name of status or security. Some of the men have such delusions of grandeur that they fancy themselves as paterfamilias, who were a law unto themselves if they chose to be. They could decree or prevent their children's marriages and divorce. For a while they even could decree their deaths although this was said to have been rare in ancient times.

Antes muerta que Lichita #53 Monday 12/7/15: Two weddings, two wheelchairs

There was actually a lot of rehash last night and I'm skipping it.

Alicia goes to the orphanage to take Mateo a present. They won't let her see him, but they will let her talk to the social worker, Venus. Venus sees her from afar and ducks out - later telling Roberto that Alicia would have recognized her and a whole scandal would have broken out. She reminds him he promised to come clean to everybody every soon and says Mateo's been much more volatile since he started having memories of his mother.

Mateo loves Alicia's present and is delighted she remembered him.

Luckily for Roberto, Marta loses it completely in the courtroom, screaming and saying that Mateo is her Angelito and should be with her. Roberto kindly says the trial should be postponed till she feels better. Turns out this is the third anniversary of her Angelito's death from cancer. Sobbing, she's folded into the car by her sweet but ineffectual husband. She sees Beto talking to his lawyer and bolts to run across the road and almost get run over but is saved by Beto. She starts confusing Beto with God and says, "I begged you to take me instead of him." Shiver.

Roberto and Alicia continue to sulk about their respective upcoming weddings, which due to clerical error are going to happen at the same church on the same day.

The API guys are pleased with Alex and say he's ahead in the voting and his wedding will push him over the top and they wish him "a marriage as good as your parents' is." Eye roll.

There is a big dinner at the mansion. Roberto tries to beg off, Luciana says, "I pretend like the others but I'm worried, I never see you." He shows up after all, with a ring, she makes him get down on his knee, he looks like he's really making an effort to think this could work out. Luciana shows it to everybody. Alicia: "It's almost as lovely as the one you stole from the Duke." Luciana crows about her dress, which is nicer than Angeline Jolie's. Bea says she and Elsa will go with Alicia next day to get her a dress.

Magos is pushing Ximena down the sidewalk in her wheelchair when the gangster supplier appears, offers more merchandise to sell, and gratuitously makes a point of telling Ximena "your mother is a pirate." Magos says she's out of the game. "Your loss," he says and leaves. Magos lies, saying, "he's a liar," but Ximena says: "You think I know nothing? I know your friend Gerry got fired for selling pirated goods and now it turns out it was your fault and he took the fall for you." She chants "I have a mother who's a pirate" all the way home.

The cafe is doing well financially. Elsa and Nacho think Magos will help them more once Ximena recuperates, but Magos says she was thinking of studying something, Alicia had offered to pay. Nacho thinks she'll take the money and skip the studying.

The first commercial for Oki Oki is enthusiastically approved by the client. Alicia and Roberto have their usual fight about who is doing what por interes - to advance careers etc.

After being kissy with Sandra at the office, Augusto goes to some hotel and has sex with Chuchette, who notices the lipstick on his collar and knows he didn't get it at home, but she doesn't care much. She seems to be spying for him a bit and says that Roberto had been pretending to be in love with Alicia. This interests him for some Machiavellian reason.

Bachelor and bachelorette parties are being organized. There will be dirty games.

Rafael tells Valeria they have a pretty serious offer for the house, they'll pack up and move to San Miguel. Don Augusto has his henchman call the Buenos Aires real estate agent, he wants to buy Rafael's mansion.

Lastly, after yet another shouting convo with Beto moaning about how he's giving up the love of his life, Gumaro later takes off in his wheelchair to visit Nacho and Elsa at their cafe. To be continued!

Tonight: poor Ez will get a lot of bridal shop to recap I think.

Pasión y Poder #23 Monday 20151207 Arturo Gives Erick and Nina the Finger

Something is wrong with Blogger.  It keeps saying that I logged out and shutting down on me.  I can't make this better.  Sorry.

Telenovela Dictionary:

angry forefinger:  the physical stance in which Arturo Montenegro arranges his body once he has become enraged by the action or words of the idiots in his personal and professional life.  The position consists of Arturo Montenegro entering an moron's personal space, and slightly crouching down while jabbing a extended index finger in an upward motion towards the his or her chin.  At this stage he is normally screaming and pulling out his hair.  This should not be confused with the "I'm about to explode fist".

I'm about to explode fist:  the physical stance in which Arturo Montenegro arranges his body right before he becomes enraged by the action or words of the idiots in his personal and professional life.  The position consists of Arturo Montenegro entering an idiot's personal space, slightly crouching down and lifting a fist with a bent index finger motioning towards the idiot.  While the bent index finger is not yet extended, it is positioned higher that the other fingers.  It is a warning sign to all idiots before he crosses over into the angry forefinger (see above) stage.   In this stage he is still may be attempting to reason with the said idiot, but is beginning to realize that you can't reason with a fool.  Please note, that because they are imbeciles, most of the people in his professional and personal life do not take heed to the warning signs and continue to provoke him into the angry forefinger (see above) stage.

Muchacha Italiana Viene a Casarse #73 Monday, 12-7-15 (Mex 102) In Which Fiorella Finds a Knife Protruding from the Angeles Family Back

Ciao, Patio Peeps!  Are y'all all refreshed from a day away from our dysfunctional bunch of ego-maniacs, vultures, swindlers and sadistic seniors intent on sucking the joy out of young lovers' lives?  Well, let's catch up with the madness in Dos Rios, picking up where we left off.  Pardon the choppiness, I'm going to try to go scene by scene.

Pedro and Gianluca's yelling goes to blows right inside La Dolce Vita:  Pedro is attacking Gianluca for his part in deceiving the poor, dying Vittorio and Luca accuses Pedro of being a typical, cynical rich dude and trying to make Fiorella his personal plaything.  Domingo breaks up the fight and Pedro leaves in a huff.

Pedro arrives at ACorp just after Benigno has signed the papers which form the new fused company headed up by the Ass.  Benigno asks for a list of ACorps customers so as to insure there is no conflict of interest between the two client bases.  Pedro exchanges sharp words with Assvaldo, then leaves with Aitana trailing him.  Benigno and his wife discuss the still lost cell phone.  The whole group toasts the merger.

Yo No Creo en los Hombres #102 Lunes 12/7/15

Chapter 102: Crocodile Tears

Maleny sat in the chair at the desk. She did not look at her mother, her brother, or the two accomplices in the room.
I don't blame you. Now I take in my own hands the only thing I'm grateful you gave me. My life.”
She then raised the pistol to her temple and fired. She fell to the floor, overturning the chair.
Úrsula's jaw dropped and she cried out. Danny-Boy began to cry. Jacinto froze. His eyes bugged out. Arango closed his eyes in pain.
You didn't do this. It was Daniel!” Úrsula cried. “It was Daniel.”
Daniel ran out. Isidro entered the room and stopped dead.

Muchacha Italiana Viene A Casarse #72 Thu 12/3/15 (Mex 101) The things we do for love

In the midst of the refrito, a detail catches my ear…Gael says that none of the Angeles can get thrown out of the house until Eloisa's will is completed.  Funny how they keep making up new rules for why they're all stuck living together.

Fi's latest argument with Gianluca ends with a demand that he never kiss her again.  Boo!

Ramiro gets all dressed up and goes to La Dolce Vita to check out Diana…and he makes it clear to Domingo that he is, indeed, checking out Diana (busy flirting with Vitto).  Vitto even wanders over, giving Ramiro the chance to say that the meal is excellent, and oh by the way, that woman over there is his neighbor who he has the hots for.  She doesn't know they're neighbors but he watches her all the time…with her son.  Well, Vitto is convinced Beto is her nephew, so that gets Ramiro nowhere.  He breaks it to Ramiro that Diana's spoken for…ohh, not by him!  He's an honorable lech…er, leech…er, man who's about to get married.  Fake-sad Ramiro asks for the check.

Pasión y Poder #22, Thursday, December 3, 2015: The Fall of Erick Montenegro. (And it's SO not fair!)

A Foundation of Cruelty  – The Letters

Eladio takes the crumpled paper out of Julia's hands, smooths  it out, and realizes it's a letter from Arturo.  So she's still seeing him!  Julia protests.  That letter is 20 years old!

In Eladio's eyes, that's even worse.  She has kept Arturo's letters with the photos of her precious son, and after all those years, she is still moping over them.

Julia says she was cleaning house – she was going to get rid of the letters.

"Since you were going to tear up the letters," he says, snatching the small bundle out of her hand, "I'll help you."

He rips each page deliberately, his eyes on Julia's face. Now he looks down at the pieces on the floor.  "And if you ever have anything to do with Arturo Montenegro again..."

Antes muerta que Lichita #52 Thursday 12/3/15 The Episode Where Grown-ups Make Bad Decisions and the Children Suffer

Don Augusto, Elias and Sandra discuss Alicia's work performance. Sandra thinks she is super "green" (newbie) when it comes to her position. Elias disagrees, he feels that Alicia is doing wonderfully as a creative director. He also wonders why Sandra and Augusto are referring to each other as "Ud" when they have known each other for 10 years...is it because he is in the room? Sandra believes Elias is singing praises where it does not belong. Augusto has the final say as always and he agrees with Elias more than Sandra this time. His reports show that clients are happy with Alicia.

Alicia gets a call from a very distraught Magos. Once Alicia calms her down she learns more about the accident. Not so bright Magos and Chanclas the Bozo walked away with mere scratches while Ximena is in a more dire state.

Roberto arrives at the public hospital near the accident. He found out the location because he happened to see Magos climb into the ambulance. The whole family eventually arrive at the hospital waiting to her news of Ximena while Chanclas the Bozo lurks in the background. The doctor informs the family that Ximena is out of critical condition but she has a fractured knee. She needs surgery immediately to enhance her chances of a successful recovery in regards to walking. Unfortunately they do not have a orthopedic surgeon at the hospital. Alicia wants the doctor to tell her the best place (public or private) with the best doctor to do Ximena's surgery. She does not care about the costs. As the doctor and Alicia leaves Roberto notices Chanclas making a run for it. They have a heart to heart and Beto lays everything out. He knows that Chanclas had sinister plans against the Guiterrez family with his accomplice Axilla. Beto also knows that he was never once interested in his own daughter...better yet someone like him does not deserve a family and he needs to disappear once and for all. Chanclas now understands Beto is the "Black Panther" his buddy was referring to earlier. Roberto channels his inner Bond and sternly warns Chanclas to disappear forever.

"I can channel scary face just as easily as my puppy dog one"

Antes muerta que Lichita #51 Wednesday 12/2/15 "The Rise of the Black Panther"

Wow! What an episode! So many details! So let's get right to it. . . .

Just when we thought Alicia had gotten into the cab with Pits (El Axilas) it turns out that they played us in the previews and that Roberto appears just in time to prevent Alicia from ever getting into the taxi. He grabs Alicia by the arm and tells her that he has to talk to her about work and he will drive her home. What he says really does not make much sense and he has a hard time convincing her, but he manages to get her away from the taxi after a lot of arguing back and forth. Roberto tells her to wait for him at the reception desk and call her parents as he pays the taxi driver (who is already looking at him warily) a visit. Alicia remembers she did lose her phone and grudgingly goes inside complaining that Roberto always gets his way. So now we have just Pits and Roberto. Pits is afraid because he recognizes Roberto. Roberto grabs Pits by the hair on the back of the head and asks what he was doing with Alicia. Pits lies and says he was just taking her home. Roberto does not believe him one bit and tells him that if he sees him around Alicia and her family, Roberto will make Pits swallow his own fists (better that I stop here with the more than colorful description that follows).

At the Gutiérrez household, Flops (El Chanclas) is installed on the couch when he gets a phone call from Alicia. Boy is he surprised. She explains she forgot her cell phone and was just calling to say she was on her way. Magos comes to chit chat on the couch. Flops starts talking about Magos, Ximena and him, just the three of them in their own house. They wake up Nacho who has had it with their lack of respect for him and his house. He tells them go talk in their own house but not in his at that time of the night. Of course Magos has to complain.

Yo No Creo En Los Hombres #100, Wed 12/2/15: In Which Someone Finally Says the Name of the Telenovela

Julian’s Last Wishes
Adrian, Orlando and Doris sit Fermin down and review Julian’s last wishes, and loose ends to tie up. Orly will take care of selling his car, Adrian will take care of selling Julian’s part of their business, and the money will go to Fermin and Honoria, who will need it more than ever. Adrian also reveals the life insurance policy Julian took out (to take care of his parents), and the contract he signed where he paid for a shop for Esperanza’s business—it was a surprise he had planned for MD’s wedding. He also wanted to invest in MD’s and Doris’ business. Fermin breaks down in tears over his thoughtful son. Honoria emerges from Julian’s bedroom just long enough to spew her venom and to refuse any last wishes Julian had to help his murderer (MD) and her family. She also curses God once more, and decides she’s no longer speaking to God, but instead to the dead.

Fermin leaves her to her suffering to go see if he can pull Jenny from the brink. She’s still drinking in her apartment, but has finally changed into sweats from her red dress. After he knocks a few minutes and begs her to let them mutually support each other through this pain, she finally lets him in. She offers him a drink, because she knows he needs it as much as she does. Fermin stays strong and refuses. He made a sacred promise to his wife and son. He wisely points out to Jenny that she just exchanged her addiction to alcohol for an addiction to Julian—and has fallen back to alcohol now that Julian is gone. This gives Jenny pause.

Muchacha Italiana Viene a Casarse #71 Wed 12/2/15 (Mex 100) Fifi fights for her obsession with marrying Vitto

Ciao, Muchacha Peeps.  Well, looks like I've gotten an episode interrupted by mayhem once again.  My heart goes out to every family affected by this madness.  About forty minutes of the episode was taken up by breaking news bulletins.  Here is what I was able to gather.  Please fill in the blanks if anyone is able to watch this tomorrow online:

Gael and Roxi have launched their plan to pose as lovers to fake the family out and take them off the trail of her and Benni.  There is a scene where Osvaldo tells Sergio, Freddie and Sonia that Roxi and Gael are lovers and he apparently believes it.  Sonia is shocked and thinks it's wrong because they are related.  Freddie think it's no biggie because she's adopted.

Giana and Gael's little interlude in the garden is interrupted by Roxi and this is when the bulletin broke in.  Later in the episode Gigi is bummed out about the  fake romance between him and Roxi:  she's afraid a real boink is in the future.  Gael chills her out and warms her up at the same time with tender caresses and kisses.

Antes Muerta Que Lichita #50 Tuesday 12/1/15: Enter the Armpit

Luci and her mom arrive at the Santa Clara orphanage (where Alex' announcement will take place, after Alicia's quick switcheroo). They think Alicia is trying to be some sort of  stuck-up Evita of the shirtless masses by having the thing there. Luci: "hmm, maybe i should get me one of those miserable orphans so I could become Saint Luciana!"

But before Luci can make her big entrance, Alicia trips on Mateo and they have a face-to-face. She explains the purpose of the rich people visiting (to get money out of them), he says all the orphans had been told to stay out of sight for the duration of the event, and she proposes that they both hide.

Whoah! Luciana is trying to wrangle the press, preening and suggesting they ask her about the wedding, but one reporter says there's a rumor that she's pregnant! Everyone gasps!
