Por Amar Sin Ley, 4/17/18 Chapter 31: Stars and $ Signs Reallign

While Alejandra laments with Paula over the major guilt trip the ever-scheming strategizing Carlos has laid on her, Gustavo promises his client that tomorrow will bring them a second audience/trial and he will manage to win over Oscar-winning Witchy Wife de Lorenza's blackmail  (gawd how Viewerville's missed Margarita Magaña) which he's certain the judge saw through.  "--Yes, it's said that you don't know who you really married until you get divorced."  It's good he didn't rule today.  (She's got to prove what she claims and she won't be able to?  Sorry, dude.  My money's on Lori.)

Chapter 30: Brawling and Bawling

Previously on D.F. Law:
  • Under the watchful eyes of her colleagues Victoria lured “Arturo” (hereafter to be known as The Rat With No Name) to the bar and he ordered drinks. Then he turned on the flattery. Leonardo saw this and went after him despite the others' attempt at holding him back.
    “It that him?” he asked.
    “It's him,” Victoria answered.
“Who are you?” their quarry asked, looking at both of them.
“We want to know what you did to Olivia,” said Leonardo.
“Olivia? Well, I did nothing. As far as I remember we had a damned good time in bed.”
Leonardo punched him in the solar plexus with his left hand, which began a brawl worthy of a St Patrick's Day in Belfast. Half the bar got involved while the other half watched. Alejandra took out her cell and called the police, telling them to send a van with a team.

Mr. Dimples is desperate to steal whatever valuables and hard cash lovely Olivia has. Oli now realizes it ain't no game, although she's been played for a fool.  She cries and he gags her then.  He gets what he can find quick and easy and leaves Oli trussed and tied to the bedpost like the silly goose she is.

Across town, Paula encourages Alejandra to tell it like it is--and was--to Carlos.  "--Don't hold anything back!"  Ale just doesn't want to make a mistake.  (Hey, this is Mama Paula here, Ale--uh, just how many husbands did she mention she had?)

Por Amar Sin Ley, 4/10/18 Chapter 26: Carlos Confronts, Ale Stays WishyWashy, Ric Is A Brick

Isabel remains undecided and tells Alejandra to lay aside the paperwork while she reconsiders--for Luis's sake.  (I believe).

Carlos is the early bird who catches his worm of a cousin, Alan, in a host of omissions, not the least of which is that he spent the night of the bachelor party sleeping in the same hotel with the hooker that accused him of murdering her friend.  Why did he OMIT that information???? His personal life, sayz Al, is none of his beeswax.  Carlos mentions that his lawyer now, Leo, will be investigating Alan as a major suspect since Al decided to omit this bit of trivial pursuit.  Al swears one thing has nothin' to do with the other and he's got nothing to hide.  "--I hope not!" "--You are going to have to eat those words, you'll see!"

Chapter 25: Priorities

Previously on D.F. Law:
  • Paula talked about how every good lawyer wants to work at Vega & Associates, but Carlos denied that on the grounds of philosophical differences. Paula nonetheless pointed out that it was lawyers from that firm who got him freed, which he agrees with and gives Alejandra credit that she perhaps did not earn. When he kissed Alejandra it was evident that she did not welcome it and wanted him to leave. He finally said he needed to go home and rest to have the energy to start working on his plans and said he would pick Alejandra up in the morning. She declined this offer, saying she needed to get an earlier start. He made a big deal instead of saying he loved her.... more than ever. She went upstairs and Paula turned to Carlos to make sure he understood that he had hurt her daughter badly. She told him he had to respect Alejandra's decision. He didn't understand so she spelled it out that her daughter had a lot of work rebuilding her life after what he had done. He said he had paid for this in many ways. She told him point blank that her priority is her daughter. He asked her to trust him, etc.

Por Amar Sin Ley, 4/6/18 Chapter 24: Carlos gets--out of jail, a photo op and a champagne lunch

Part 1 of 2
The Trial of the Century is Underway---or rather a hearing to determine whether Carlos has to remain in prison or get out on personal recognizance until the real trial. Suffice it to say that thanks to Leo and Rob's snooping around the hotel and finding the hotel emergency stairs near the room lacked security cameras; Carlos' casual demeanor upon leaving; his upcoming nuptials; Patricia not seeming frightened or concerned when room service arrived, and Juan's dogged determination to provide the toxicology report, Carlos is one step closer to temporary freedom. The toxicology report showed that Patricia, having taken sleeping pills which, Leo tells the judge, mixed with alcohol, could have caused her to choke on her own vomit. Sonia, the spiked-heeled public prosecutor indicates, indignantly, that there was no evidence of vomit anywhere, to which Leo chides her for not doing her homework because there was no pathology report. (CSI: Miami is shocked.) Leo feels triumphant.

Ricardo falls on his sword for Alejandra.  He will stand aside while she determines the next step in her relationship/ex-relationship with Carlos.

The judge in Gustavo's case asks for character? witnesses.  Milena smiles evilly, if not triumphantly, over at Gus.  He frowns.

Juanito brings another morning's coffee to the M.E.'s office and flusters the dude in charge.  They'll just wait together again today--"just in case"-- for the necessary report: "--I cannot go back to my bosses empty handed, now can I!"

Pot Amar Sin Ley, 4/3/18 Chapter 21: Deadline Or Dead In The Water?

Juan, who's quickly becoming the poster child for kids lacking a father figure-- is introduced to Alejandra and starts to gossip like a middle-aged old lady about how it's no wonder she'd want shed of Carlos after what she'd gone through on account of him.

Olivia tells the janitorial worker, Rosita, her husband legally has no right to keep her kids from her.  Also, thanks to Sr. Vega, her case will be pro bono--they won't charge her a centavo to represent her.

Leo and Rob introduce Juanito to Oli.  Afterward he asks a moment to call his mama to tell her he'll be late getting home and not to wait on dinner.  Rob and Leo get a chuckle out of that one.

Ale mentions to Ricardo in their office that she does feel her relationship with Carlos is like the 800 pound gorilla in the middle of the room.  She says they've got to discuss this.  He says he doesn't want to pressure her.  She tells him that no matter what's going to possibly happen to Carlos, her and Ric's relationship makes her feel alive again.

SJW Juan wins big against Roberto by having the bartender of the club testify the pearl necklace was used to pay off the accuser, Sra. Berenstein's, daughter's huge bar bill.  The charges against the housekeeper, Silvia, are dropped and she refuses to charge the daughter for setting up false charges against her.

Silvia proudly and loudly praises and blesses Juanito and then Mama de Juanito starts cheering from the back bench till the judge tells her to shut it.  And thus, we note that Juanito comes by it honestly.....Sra. Berenstein is told to pay a fine and compensate Silvia for time lost and pain and/or suffering equal to the amount in wages earned over fifteen years the woman has worked for her.  She hisses at Roberto that it's unfair and he reminds her it's the least and best to hope for considering her daughter's crime of  falsely  claiming crimes against another person.

Por Amar Sin Ley, 3/27/18 Chapter 16: Of Trials, Tribulations and Preparations

It is just another glorious and victorious day in court for our accomplished attorneys.

Victoria wins her case against the disingenuous, dastardly Dario when Rocio's housekeeper claims she saw Ro with a black eye.  Dario defames his ownse'f when he admits he went to anger management therapy.  (Viewerville's take is maybe a few therapists need to be held responsible for declaring people cured when they're anything but--however that's a topic for another day.)  Vicki uses a declaration of bruises and fear from Ro's dinner guest and a passionate plea that somebody has to speak for her dead friend in winning her case against Ro's rotten-to-the-core killer spouse.  Oh, and los abuelos get custody of the kids.

Weekend Discussion, 3/23/18: Por Amar Sin Ley or L.A. Law's Twin

Por Amar Sin Ley or L.A. Law's Twin

Back when we were playing Televisa Remake games (click the label “weekend” below for list) we didn't think of L.A. Law as a possibility. Obviously someone did because this series certainly feels like it. Most of the emsemble-cast characters have counterparts, there is a parade of clients some of whom are symbolic of social issues, and the relationships between the lawyers and their love interests will be the most active element of the series. Let's dive in:

Managing Partners

Alonso Vega and Leland MacKenzie are both mature men who are paternal figures. Both are law professors, virtually live at the firm, and take a personal interest in the lives of their staff.
