Me Declaro Culpable #20, 3/16/20: Bloodsuckers and Emotional Vampires, and a Little Poisoning to Boot

Wow. Watching these episodes is exhausting.  Drama and über-drama out the wazoo.  Except for Franco who just keeps saying "tranquilo, tranquilo".  Well, he didn't look too tranquilo when he was laying hot and heavy kisses on Alba.  And Gabriel was far from tranquilo when he saw what his mama, only four months a widow by the way, was up to with her lawyer.  Ingrid claims to be "chapada a la antigua" [old-fashioned] because I guess I am too.  Moving on from widowhood that quickly seems unseemly to me.  But evidently in telenovela-world it's okay.  At least that's what Franco, Gael and Julieta are all preaching.  And they're supposedly in the "good guy" cadre.

But we start with fireworks.  First the Beso Fireworks.  Then the Outraged Gabriel Fireworks. Alba runs after him, pleading that he's the most important thing in life to her.  She's been trying to connect with him, looking everywhere for him.  Please wait and let me explain! Gabe isn't buying it.  Nor does he now believe that she really misses his dad.  How can he trust her when she always lies? Alba swears that she never lies! (How about lying to yourself, sweet lady?

Me Declaro Culpable #19, 3/13/20: The Wait is Over, There’s a KISS

There is still room at the #frustratedwithNatalia table, because she could still change her mind. Let’s get right to it.

Julián gives Nat the Heave Ho
Natalia starts out strong, but Julián’s barrage of emotional torture and spit spray in her face seems to turn her back into her jellyfish stage. Julián leaves her standing in the dimly lit office after pronouncing that after all the love he’s given her, supported her, knowing all her secrets and defects, he still loves her, but he’s tired of all the drama and she’s A.L.O.N.E. [Note to Natalia: We are waiting for you to decide between being forced to choose a sleazy jerk who can perform in bed and the guilt of choosing a really sweet guy who thinks he can’t, all because you caused his condition.]

Who’s Minding the Dump? A dog.
Ingrid chats nonchalantly with Mauro on her cell phone after escaping the manicomio with Bertie and now navigating through mounds of discarded human detritus. She tells him they are ok and passes the phone to Bertie.

The two Amazonas stop, in broad daylight, get the body of skinny Luciana out and rolled over into a pile of trash. Ingrid wants to hurry away. Bertie wants to say “goodbye” to her friend. She removes a fancy dinner ring Bertie had given her for her birthday awhile back to keep as a trophy. [Note to future forensic investigators: Will the ring be a key to identifying the killer? And what about Luciana’s shroud. I bet that could be traced back to the clinic.]

Me Declaro Culpable #18, 3/12/20: On the bright side Luciana won't have to worry about her diet anymore

Patio peeps this was totes intense.

A few observations: Do we know what the cause of death for Javier was? Because with the bald head they make it seem like it's cancer, but they also made it sound like Alzheimer's, but now we are being told his illness was a result of being poisoned by Ingrid. This is sloppy writing, how much access to him did Ingrid have that she could continue to poison him on a long term basis? What herb could cause you to lose your memories like he did? I'm confused, can anyone help me figure this out? Oooh also, because of the way in which he died wouldn't they have preformed an autopsy which would have revealed that he had been poisoned? This is a case for Forensic Files! Now to our recap:

We start the episode where we left off last night, Julian and Natalia are having a screaming match, Julian is getting a little too close for comfort and thankfully before things can get worse for Natalia Gael shows up and grabs Julian by the throat. I'm sitting on my couch cheering for Gael, I want blood! Sadly for me Natalia manages to get Gael to let go of Julian without further violence and I'm sad, someone needed to punch his lights out. I'm not violent, I swear. Julian slithers away but not before telling Natalia that "this isn't over".

Me Declaro Culpable #17, 3/11/20: La Declararon Loca

No snark, this was a down-to-business episode with a lot of meat in it. And backstory.  No fluff.  Enjoy.  Daniela Castro rocked her role today.  What an actress! She deserves an Emmy.

We open with Roberta pleading to Franco “don’t leave me, don’t send me away, etc.”  Roberta wants to go home.

Later on, Franco calls Alba in the middle of the night, wakes her up, wants to know how she is doing after almost meeting her maker, compliments of Roberta and her butcher knife.  He feels bad about what Bertie did.  Alba tells him that just the sound of his voice makes everything better.   Awwwww…..   (Methinks it’s his Argentinean  accent that has her swooning.  Well, that and his hot looks.  But I digress.)  This relationship is so going somewhere.   And Franco, holding his cup of coffee at the other end of the phone call, brings to mind  one of those old Nescafe commercials on TV.

Conversation between Roberta and Daddy Dearest a/k/a Mauro ---  she tells him he is the worst father ever, his lies, him hitting her when she was a little girl, etc.   Mauro says her illness is fabricating all that, creating false memories.  Roberta tells him that good fathers do not treat their kids the way you treated me.  You mistreated me, tortured me, made me suffer, lied to me, left marks on me.
(not sure if that means bruises or scars on her skin.)

Me Declaro Culpable #16, 3/10/20: Bed Heads

Radio Mala Racha:

The "mysterious caller" goes on and on. And on. And on. Not only are there no peepholes in Alternate Mexico City, there are no kill switches either. Finally Alba flees in tears, followed by Franco, who tries to talk her down. You are innocent! I am guilty! I can't recognize my own wife's voice! Me neither! It all ends in an inappropriate hug as usual, inconveniently witnessed by Roberta through the glass door of the studio. If you're wondering QTH she could possibly be doing right there right then, join the rest of us. We will probably never know, because she does a 180 and disappears.

Casa Paolo:

Paolo and Katia are sharing fond memories on top of the bedclothes. She tries to kiss him and is rebuffed, which for some reason moves her to strip down to her Frederico's of Hollywood and announce, "I don't really expect anything to happen between us; I just want to be near you." Honey? If you're shoving that much cleavage under a guy's chin and he's still looking at you like he needs a Maalox, he's just not that into you.

Despacho Pro Bono:

Mauro has only just now noticed that no one ever comes to work anymore, especially "Juliancito," whose main client just dumped the firm because nobody was paying any attention to him. Where is the little toad, anyway? Olga blandly replies that perhaps something has happened to him. Mauro says he'd better hope something has, or something's gonna.

Me Declaro Culpable #15, 3/9/20: The Tables Are Set And The Knives Come out

Another rough episode with treacherous women dealing out low blows to our clueless heroes and heroines.  Perhaps this is why Univisión has bumped the show up to 2 pm.  We don't want the kiddies coming home from school to see this kind of emotional carnage on the TV.  I'm assuming Como Dice el Dicho is milder fare.

It's not all misery though.  Ingrid and Julián apparently pass a hawt Nooner Only Sooner at his place; and Gabriel has an opportunity to do the same with a paid escort the previous night, but gallantly saves himself for the First Time with someone he loves. Too bad that "someone" is the sexy young mom of his best friend.

Me Declaro Culpable #14, 3/6/20: Guess Who is Coming to Dinner

If you guessed Paolo, you’d be wrong. Here’s what went down today. It wasn’t pretty.

Ensalada Interruptus
Alba has forgiven herself for misjudging Franco and the two are having a lawyer-client conversation complete with hand-fondling. They talk mainly about how Ingrid has turned Gabe against her and there’s nothing she can do about it. She doesn’t blame him, since of course she is an assassin. He rejects that notion. He does admit that hers is a difficult case, but they will prevail. He tells her not to lose faith. He asks her to go out for a salad as friends, not missing an opportunity to put his arm around her waist and then both hands on her shoulders. Olga, the secretary cum spy recruited by Bertie makes a call.

Bertie has just returned from her treatment at the hands of Dr. Luciana Matasanos, or in this case Metaesperma. She knows she must rest but promptly cuts her off when Olga’s call comes in, who passes on what she just observed. Alba and Franco have barely enjoyed a couple of bites and a couple of “looks” when a dark shadow passes in front of them. Bertie sidles up to the table. She explains she needed to talk to Franco and since he wasn’t in his office guessed he might be here. She’s quite civil, pleasant and offers apologies to Alba for interrupting. Alba jumps up from the table (it hard to say why—feeling guilty?), ceding her place to Bertie. Alba excuses herself and Bertie sits down. After some back and forth as to who deserves the salad, Franco tells her she can have his salad, too, and gets up and leaves telling her to enjoy. Bertie samples the broccoli.

Me Declaro Culpable #13, 3/5/20: Natalia Gets a Clue

Good morning peeps, it is 2 am pacific so this recap will be fast and easy.

The bombshell: Natalia learns the truth

Paolo sends Katia packing, later he and Natalia hang out (the editing in this novela is terrible) he tells her that he spent time with Katia but that he is not interested in her any more, the conversation then moves to Paolo being disappointed because there are so many things that he can no longer do. Natalia points out that while that may be true there are things that he can still do and asks him what else he would have wanted to do other than play soccer. He tells her he would have loved to be a race car driver (men!), Natalia tells him he can still do this and takes him out for a drive. And this folks is when things go sour, so so sour.

Natalia is in the passenger seat, she's not wearing a seatbelt- dumb bunny, and is helping guide Paolo's driving, they then arrive at the scene of Paolo's accident and that's when Natalia realizes that she was the person who ran over him, she has a mental breakdown and cancels the rest of their plans with some lame excuse about having to do something with her mom. Guys, she wants us to believe she wants to spend time with that nut ball, is nut ball one word or two?

Me Declaro Culpable #12, 3/4/20: Confusiones

Some scenes are combined, some not explored fully, but you'll get the idea.  My cable company/DVR has a title for each episode.  Today’s was “Confusiones” so that sounded good enough to me.  There are lots of confused people in this telenovela and we all know who they are.

We open with Alba & Franco in the hotel room, still arguing about what has just happened (see yesterday’s recap).  She is ranting on, tells him that now she understand “pro bono” and “I’m your bono, eh?”  (yet they never really talk about the red dress on the bed).

Alba tells Franco that Olga gave her the papers, with instructions to bring them to Franco.  Like the good legal “runner” she is (not!), she did just that.   We viewers do not question "why?" We just roll with it, or else we, too, will be confused. Just like these characters.  But I digress ...  Franco says he never had Olga do any such thing. Alba calls him a liar.   (awww, their first lovers’ quarrel)

Me Declaro Culpable #11, 3/3/20: Nuclear-Option Families

Bufete Monroy-Urzua:

Mauro tells Ingrid the judge has ordered her to undergo a psych eval, and she goes all poor pitiful me on him. He has clearly never been all the way around the block, because he falls for it hook, line and wishful thinking. He swears he is willing to make his son-in-law his worst enemy...if it's for her. Gawd, what a dope.

Alba brings Franco a sexy salad in his moonlight office, and he insists they share it. I hope she at least brought two forks. She confesses she has to hang out for a while because she's temporarily turned the Coffee Shop into an AirBnB for a lovelorn "friend."

Roberta shows up hoping for a romantic round two but overhears Franco and Alba giggling behind the closed door. She ducks down and calls him, pretending that Natalia's having a crisis and needs him right now, as in RIGHT NOW. Super Dad flies out the door and Mommy Dearest flies in, grabbing fistfuls of Al's hair and calling her every name we've already heard and at least one we still haven't, because it was so bad it got bleeped out. Any lip-readers out there?

Me Declaro Culpable #10, 3/2/20: Roberta Goes Hunting and Bags Herself a Man

Well, that wasn't all that happened of course.  Nat was prevented from confessing; Julián did unspeakable things to her teddy bear; Roberta and Alba both showed their technical prowess with cellphones; Ingrid pulled some more crazy ghost numbers, but Roberta seducing Franco took the cake as they say.  Remember when we all chortled that she'd need to get him drunk or drugged to fake a pregnancy?  Not at all. Just come onto him in the office and he's your guy.  Ready and able. Little soldier up and ready to fire.  But let's leave that gruesome scene for later.  How did this episode begin?

With Julián on a public phone, rasping with a Beelzebub voice, telling Franco his very own daughter is the one who hit the soccer star he's defending and left him for dead.  Franco refuses to believe a cowardly anonymous caller, so Julián suggests he investigate. "You'll soon find out your darling daughter belongs behind bars."
