El Dragón #40, 11/26/19: Murder she wrote

In the hospital room Adela flatlines. Miguel begins CPR and calls the nurse. Crash cart arrives and the doctor uses the defibrillator several times with no response from Adela. Finally, Miguel gets in there and pounds her chest and her heartbeat returns. The doctor says, “A precordial thump. I haven’t seen that one done in a very long time.”  Miguel smiles.

Edna argues with her boss about investigating Miguel’s business to find out who was the culprit who bombed the place. She wants to confiscate the computers. Her boss says that she is not to investigate the victim, she is to found out who is to blame for this.

El Dragon #39, 11/25/19: Discussion Page

With profound apologies, my cable company's website had major buffering issues with this program last night and the episode isn't posted for On Demand yet.  In fact, their site is two episodes behind on this program today.

All I saw was that:

  • Flaco was badly injured in the left thigh; Peligros has to carry him out
  • Adela was trapped under a beam; Miguel got her out and had to carry her out and went into the ambulance with her (I'm imagining that Jimena was royally pissed)
  • Pig was gloating
  • Lots of smoke in the air  and how toxic is it?

El Dragon #38, 11/22/19 - Whack a Mole Explosion!

Another Friday is upon us and this time with the end of, what the rest of the world will see on Netflix as the season Finale for Season 1. So I am guessing that it should be a good one. But for us, it is just another Friday night cliffhanger, thank you Univision. So let’s jump in.

First, we open with Hector. He is being tortured by Epig! Interestingly enough, Epig has done exactly what Miguel told him not to do. He is not leaving Hector alone. In the opening scene, he is holding a gun to his head telling him he needs to say his prayers because he is going to the bone yard. Epig takes a shot, but is messing with Hector. Because he doesn’t actually shoot him. He is a complete jerk, pretending to not understand why the shot didn’t kill Hector and telling him he is usually good for the third shot. Just trying to play mind games. Hector begs him to kill him. Epig tells Hector that if he opens his eyes he will put a bullet between his eyes. But Hector obviously doesn’t have that much of a death wish because he doesn’t open his eyes.

El Dragón #37, 11/21/19: Pig Makes His Bed, Victor Sticks In His Nose, Flaco Flakes, and Mig Machos Out

Epigmanio has been locked inside the restaurant's storeroom, acting more like a caged boar, squealing and roaring away, ready to gore the first big thing in sight.  When Miguel appears and tells Pighe's only alive right now because he wants Pig alive.  Pig screams insults at "the effiminate Japanese wanna-be" to fight him man to man.   Mig opens the cage and walks off further into the narrow hallway.  "--You want me, you got me."

El Dragón #36, 11/20/19: Mexican Samurai

Japan: Miguel, Peligros, and Ishiro were with Jun, who explained that the dispute between himself and Goro goes way back. A gang of ninjas stalked Tadamichi and placed a motion sensor in the woods while Jun denied killing his own right-hand man, blaming Goro for this as the pretext for a war. Miguel saw the tattoo on Jun's hand and realized he was lying, flashing back to a shooting inciident. Miguel put Jun in a deadly headlock saying he will kill him himself if he kills Tadamichi.

El Dragón #35, 11/19/19: Ruh Roh Scooby Do there's a war going on, but we don't know whose side we are on.

We left with some Japanese guy caught doing something alone in a bathtub and subsequently being punished for it. I thought it was kinda severe, but the Japanese are different about those things. Huh? Oh he was one of the underworld kingpins' helpers from an opposing view. Tadamichi  tells Mr. Migster this means war. Swell fellas, keep it over there this time.

Tadamichi and Migs and Tad tells him to stay close to Goro, he doesn't trust him

El Dragón #34, 11/15/19: From Pig Pen To Makin' Bacon Or All Muddy Tracks Lead to Pig

Parte 1~

We begin again with the most memorable scene this past week: Chano, QEPD, blabbing to Hector that Epimanio Moncado is the head of the new drug cartel in CD Juarez and Hector being covered in brain pulp just afterward, courtesy of Tacho and his high-powered rifle shot from numerous blocks away.

Adela, meanwhile, manages to escape the clutches of Mr. Barrio back alley thug (more of a pipsqueak who seems too winded to do much more than threaten - and why oh why does the barrio bum always determine it's something of a macho rite of passage to rape a gal from outside the neighborhood?) With a well aimed knee-knock at his chestnuts and  ahop onto a conveniently parked moto of a pizza delivery girl... put, put, put--Vroooooom! She is outta there and back on her way to where-ever.

A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM COUNTxALACRÁN TO CARAY, CARAY! VISITORS

WHO IS THIS LOVELY LADY???  DO YOU RECOGNIZE HER???

She is none other than Bernarda Saenz, viuda de Guillen (Jacqueline Andere) from La Otra (2002), one of most evil, disturbing villains ever. She is the epitome of the toxic mother. Her selfishness drives the oppressive manner she treats her daughters in order to satisfy her own desires.

Greetings Caray, Caray! visitors--

Some of you may know me already. For those that don’t, let me introduce myself. My nom de plume was CountxAlacrán. During 2015-2016 I was a recapper on several telenovelas, including Yo No Creo En Los Hombres, Yago and Que Te Perdone Dios. I posted comments regularly. Shortly after YNCELH, I left the recapping teams due to personal obligations.
The reason for this post is to announce my intention to create a website where my own recaps of Spanish telenovelas and possibly other shows, not available elsewhere, such as La Otra, can be ordered and purchased for a fair price.  I hold a B1 certificate in English, so translating from Spanish to English will be my primary focus.

El Dragon #33, 11/13/19: Moving Out, Moving On

Good Evening my Patio Peeps, I know, I am here a few days early this week, but due to some changes in this weeks schedules ( we all have lives), I am taking over this Wednesday night recap, and glad to actually. Usually, I wait until I am ready to recap to watch my episode, but I was so curious about what was going to happen last week that I went ahead and have already seen this one. So I am excited. It was good all around. More sentimental than some of you like, but just right for others. So let’s go!

At the beginning of the episode we get a brief replay of everything that happened in regards to Adela’s interview with the magazine Nosotros. The instructions given by Miguel, the interview itself, and the fall out upon publication, when Miguel freaks out on Adela over the amount of information she allegedly divulged in the interview. We pick up with the breakfast where he tells her that he would have expected betrayal from anyone except her. And of course Adela is in complete disbelief because viewerville knows that Adela did not in fact give up any information that she shouldn’t have, and that Jimena was the mastermind behind the entire thing. Adela denies that she opened her mouth. She tells Miguel straight out, “if I am telling you I didn’t say anything, it’s because I didn’t say anything.” Miguel, very sanctimoniously begins reading from the article.

El Dragón #32, 11/12/19: Underhanded Deceptions!

Hector continues to make a scene Duarte’s office, accusing Duarte of using Natalia as his lover. Arturo and his wife are mortified, crying out that it is not true. He is finally thrown out of Duarte’s office. Arturo takes his wife out who is in tears now. Duarte gets on the phone to report Hector’s behavior. The guards throw Hector down the front steps. Arturo confronts him and socks him in the face, telling him never to return to his foundation and to have nothing more to do with his family. A female photographer is taking pictures of everything.

After Mig gets through with Angel, Angel sits up and tells him that if it weren’t for him, that Chisca would be dead, “didn’t Jorge tell you?” Miguel turns to listen but says, “Don’t ever come back and see Chisca again.”

El Dragón #31, 11/11/19: Sex, Lies, Corruption, and Viral Video

Miguel and Adela kissed while Jimena looked dagger eyes at her. Miguel tried to tell Adela that he was not a romantic option for her despite this “Because I can't make you happy”. He walked away from her. [Coward!]

Hector's wife, Ana, caught him in the act with Claudia and she lost it. He made excuses. He held onto her until Claudia was able to make a safe exit, feeling insulted at the excuses he made and telling Ana he loved her. Ana then walked out on him. [Both of them should kick his skanky ass at this point.]

El Dragón #30, 11/8/19: Buying Elections and Playing House

Back to our regular scheduled programming faithful friends. Friday night is here, let’s see how where our writers leave us tonight.

Angel overhears Chisca telling Valentin that she misses him, and all that jazz. Valentin gives her lame excuses about why he hasn’t called, the divorce is complicated, his wife’s lawyers can’t find out about his relationship with her. They talk sweet to each other, and all while Angel is listening and you can tell that he is upset by the whole thing. Valentin brings the conversation around to Miguel and tells Chisca that she should find out what Miguel is up to so that he can help her out by talking to Miguel for her. She is so stupid over him that she doesn’t even realize that all he is doing is pumping her for information and that it doesn’t suit him in the slightest that she is on the outs with her brother. Angel kicks an errant beer bottle and Chisca hears. She is using the excuse of Adri and Valentin buys it. Angel sneaks back upstairs. How many times does Valentin need to bring up Miguel for Chisca to get a clue. Good thing she was completely out of the picture with this last mission, but I worry she is going to get more info from Jimena than Miguel. Angel is destroyed by everything he just heard. I wonder if he is smart enough to put two and two together, or if anger and his broken heart are going to hinder his brain cells from functioning.

El Dragon #29, 11/7/19: Dead Man Walking or Chisca, Too Much Chisca

Nice to see you all a day early this week. I am taking care of Thursday and Friday recaps this week, so as you know, buckle in for a looooong ride. No really, trying to keep it a little shorter tonight as I have to work early tomorrow. But if you have any questions about a scene, or dialogue that I didn’t cover, put it in the comments, I can always go back for more details. So lets jump in.

Last night we ended with Adela picking up the file that Miggy had on his desk with the background check he did on good ole Victor. Now we can all agree, I think based on all of your feedback that this was very warranted. But also, as we all assumed, once Adela found out, she was pissed. I mean, good thing he came back clean and all (although, in my opinion, the jury is still out). I do like the way she reacted however, telling Miguel that not everyone who gets close to her, is doing it to get to him, and that he isn’t the center of the universe. She ends by asking “Who are you Miguel?” Good question, one I think those of us on the patio have been trying to figure out as well. He isn’t 100% hero, nor 100% villain, yet in his stoicism we see very little of who he truly is, except a he-ho. Adela stumbles on a truth that Miguel won’t admit, she asks if he is jealous. And I think that Migs was looking for any reason really, to look into her guy. And at that point, Adela lets loose. She tells him that he is with as many women as she likes but he has a problem with her seeing someone. He says of course not, she can be with whomever she pleases. In fact, he would like to meet Victor. The best part of the scene though, isn’t even the words, its the looks that Miguel gives, he doesn’t like being told anything. And it look like Victor is coming to dinner… not really, he just says they should meet.

El Dragón #28, 11/6/19: A Happy Pill in Everyone’s Future

We start out with a slight rewind of Hans and Jimena’s arrival at the Pritken lab gates for what he hopes will be a little private comfy time.

When Trejo and Peligro, posing as the lab guards aren’t quick enough at the gate, Hans gets out to harangue them. He wants to know who they are. Trejo explains he’s subbing for the regular guard. Hans wants to know his name—Trejo answers Ricardo Aceituna (Rick Olive). Hansie demands this imbecile with the funny name open up the damned gates. By this time Trejo can’t delay any longer and complies. Our intruders are still inside, Mig trying to hurry up Flaco since there are only two minutes left. Done and done. They exit the restricted lab as we watch the timer go down from 5-4-3-2-1 seconds, to .... whew, they make it past the laser just as it turns from green to red.

However, they aren’t  safe yet. They still have to get out of the building. Trejo communicates the news that Jimie and Hansie are now in the building.  Mig puts on some night vision goggles and gets into a cabinet. It turns out to be the shafts of the HVAC system. He orders Flaco back to the car.

El Dragón #27, 11/5/19: Locked up Twice, is there an Escape?

We begin with Chisca’s arrest and getting her mugshots. She thinks she can just say she is a Garza and get off easily. But she gets thrown in the slammer anyway without a phone call. Her cellmate bullies her around and finally Chisca goes to sit down.

Miguel and Duarte are talking about Hector and discussing what to do about it. Miguel says he can’t help him.

At the Garza home, Dora and Rosario discuss dinner while the TV is on. Dora is horrified as she witnesses Chisca’s arrest on the news. She calls Miguel who is in the midst of talking to Duarte. Then he makes a deal with Duarte as Duarte “offers” to just say the word and get her out. Miguel is stuck. He is now indebted to Duarte, one favor for another.

El Dragón #26, 11/4/19: Two-Faced

Amigos:

This one isn't up to my usual standard because I was really wiped out. There are some gaps, so if you can ID what happened, please put it in the comments. I will fix this for posterity later.

Miguel once again told Howard that they had no real evidence against him.

El Dragón #25, 11/1/19: The Fall of Halcon and Toledo Tries to Hook a Big Fish

Good Friday my faithful friends. What an interesting week we have had here on El Dragon. Although Monday night’s episode was a little slow, they did not leave us there and the rest of the week was action packed.

Tonight’s episode picks up with Epig’s suv under fire. El Halcon has decided that his time is up and is trying to take him out. Last night’s bomb didn’t do the job, but it looks as if it is still not time for Epig to meet his maker as he is driving an armored car and the bullets are bouncing off. Epig, Tacho and Chano escape the “atentado.” I like that word in Spanish better than the equivalent English explanation of an attempt/or action of kill people in the street, it also means attack but again, the word fails to completely capture the idea. Although “hit” would probably do it if set in the right context.

El Dragón #24, 10/31/19: Only Coal For His Stocking and Pig Gets A Mocking

Upon discovery, Miguel manages to find the colored wrapping for the efedrin packs (?) as he makes a run through the back and apparently places his brown ball cap on some other unsuspecting worker so that Tacho accuses him of screwing around and not listening.  Mig secretly is able to contact Peligros and tell him to go buy a few things they'll need now.

Hector squirms his way out of having to seduce--or be seduced by--Juana.  He pleads emotional difficulties (Well, whatever pays the rent, right?) and they agree to see each other again.  In the meantime Juana shows him pictures of her and Natalie in her phone, one of which intrigues him.  He takes her phone and sends copies of her pictures to himself while she is changing into something more stimulating--er relaxing.  (A cocktail dress instead of negligee--thanks be to the telenovela gods.

El Dragón #23, 10/30/19: We Was Robbed!

Miguel gets the call from the head of El Salado's northern region (Z????) who's always got a phrase of English to show his roots.  "We was robbed!!  They stole our boats!  Right from under our noses!!" (Time to get your 2nd head back behind the zipper.)

The two regional heads meet with Mig to complain and say it was his idea and if he can't put a stop to this kind of "in your face" theft of merchandise --then get out of our way, and we will!   As far as the regional capos see it Mig had a crap plan and it failed.  They already lost half their men in the big shoot out rescuing Dora, now this!  Bullets is the only way to rid ourselves of this traitor!  The two heads believe it was Epigmenio but Mig says they all could have been sold out by their own men.  Mig promises he'll determine first if it was their own men or others who helped pull this off.  He'll get it back.  He's a man of his word.

El Dragón #22, 10/29/19: More Treachery, More Murder

Hector continues his conversation with Cuña and finds out from him that impunity reigns and justice does not exist. He says, “The real mafiosos are the politicians.”

Chisca comes barging into Miguel’s office and Miriam tries to stop her. But Miguel tells Miriam not to worry and allows her to leave the office. Chisca, however, is throwing a temper tantrum with Miguel about her not being able to get a ride to Cuidad Jimenez via Peligros. He tells her that he knows she is into drugs and she needs rehab. She just gets angrier and tells him she is just as much a boss as he is and that he fancies himself as some sort of Mexican James Bond, with his Geishas and Samurais. She storms out.

Meanwhile, in Cuidad Jimenez, Hector goes to see his politician friend. He tells his friend he knows that Epigmenio is behind all this bloodshed. Hector wants to verify if Carlos Duarte is behind Epigmenio Moncada, but his politician friend starts getting hot under the collar and tells Hector to put a lid on it because it’s such a great risk to him. He tells Hector, “Mr. Bernal, you are toying with something very dangerous and it will always come out badly. I regret telling you the truth. Now please leave.” He shows Hector the door and opens it for him to leave.
