Quiero Amarte Discussion Space (Week 4 - October 13-17)
La Malquerida #37, 10/14/2014
Amigos- I'm running to an early meeting, and I'm not sure if Gloria was able to do a recap last night. If she does, I'll post it here later.
Last night:
-German did NOT get stabbbed! He takes the knife from Norberto, packs up his remaining paintings, clothes, and the car he bought with the money HE made at the Association (paid by Esteban), because Norberto never paid him for any of his work, and leaves with his dignity...to spend the night at the hospital with his brother. WORST DAY EVER!
-Norberto slimes all over Juliana, she rejects him, he says she'll come crawling to him when she needs money, he pays a visit to Julianita.
-Julianita gets roughed up by Danilo when she dares to dream about becoming the next Mrs. Norberto and leaving this life behind. He reminds her that she belongs to him.
-Dan calls Ale to make sure she dumped German and told him the lie about her dad sexually abusing her.
-Ale seems to be ready to fly the coop and leave her good man and new family behind.
-Both Juliana and Perla sign contracts on A2. Nuria lies to Ulises that she sold Juliana another space.
-Juliana and Manual try to convince German to give up his art so that Norbie will accept him back into the family. He won't budge.
-Acacia and Cris return home. Esteban seems determined to distance himself from Acacia. She's all over him seeking his approval for her reconciliation with Uli, and trying to get him to teach her some horse riding tricks/skills. He refuses the lessons saying he'll be too busy. She pouts and touches him too much.
-Cris returns the letter to Luisa. She's heartbroken but seems to accept that Manuel is not for her. She says Arturo is just a friend when both Cris and Acacia point out that he's a great catch and they think he likes her.
-Rosa has agreed to help Art and Luisa with their upcoming event. They're going to cook in Uli's little house. Art is totally going for it with Luisa. Uli approves.
-Norberto brings the full hospital bill to Cris and Este, and wants it all right now, so that Manuel can be released from the hospital today. Este thought the plan was for Norberto to pay and for them to pay him in installments. Norberto knows they don't currently have that liquidity with all the debts they've had to pay recently. Norbie doesn't care. AND he demands that Cris remove her support of German for the art show. Cris refuses. Este demands that Norb apologize to Cris for getting brusque with her in the hospital the other day. Norbie hesitates and makes the mistake of admitting that he actually raised his hands to Cris. Este loses it! He pins Norb against the wall and asks how dare he raise his hands to his wife!

OK Coral: Dani and Lucas go horseback riding. They make-out everywhere. The only thing that we learn from them is
that Dani is a virgin and that Lucas will wait until she’s ready to have sex. Their scenes were uneventful and were
only useful for catching up on my notes on the other scene.
Snob Hill: Aurora runs into the kitchen and tells
the family that Allan has arrived, but unfortunately he’s been beaten only within an
inch of his life. Greta calls a doctor.
(Alexa’s Bedroom) Alan explains to Greta, Fausto and Alexa
that he was out scouting movie sets when he resisted a robbery attempt. After
Greta and Fausto leave, Alan tells Alexa that Manolo and his thugs beat
him. They are still in danger and have
to leave town immediately! Alexa says
leaving town won’t cancel their debt.

Fernando starts the breakfast flour food fight in the kitchen with the kids and Brianna… Brianna asks Alicia why he changed, Alicia comments that Ana had to do with it. He dumps the whole bowl of dry flour on Alicia’s head… she shakes it off…
That sounds like a really fun kitchen to be in…
Fanny and Laura arrive to visit Ximena, at first she is angry but when she finds out it is them she is really happy… (bipolar for sure!)
Leon and Reina the tricolor hair girl with Mau at the birthday.. he is depressed about Fanny. She confesses her feelings to Leon and kisses him.
Diego with Ana climbing rocks out in the woods somewhere… Ana asks him to give her some TLC… he helps her to the top of the rock, she yells for him to grab her, he grabs her alright and plants a smooch on her for good measure.
Lo Nuevo:
Ana gets a bit fearful, she does not want to drop down the rock on the rope… she starts praying… he asks for a kiss, she offers a slap instead. But she does go down alongside him. He teaches her as they go. Where did you learn to do this? The Himalayas. And then he mentions that a friend did not go down the ‘healthy/safe’ way. Then he metaphors about how people deal with their problems. ‘why di you jump like a toad?’ then she lets go and falls… he yells her name. he comes down. She’s alright. (is anyone getting the déjà-vu from the beginning of Refugio? Phew! Not the same outcome… thank goodness)
Diego cracks up laughing, she is not very appreciative of that. She yells at him to get her down already!
The girls ask Ximena ‘when are you going to leave here?’ ‘ when I stop being dangerous for others’. Seems Ximena has learned a few lessons, like money is not everything. Fanny asks if the meds are working. Ximena does not want to talk about that. Ximena changes subject, how about Leon? Now it is Fanny who does not want to talk about it. What about Reeky? Didn’t you dance with him? Yes but Equis! He is my boss and as old as my dad.. Hello!
Diego asks Ana if she thinks he would have invited her without it being safe. He keeps insisting with the I love yous. With me you will always be safe. She is starting to like this relationship better, gets more into the kisses.
Leon did not appreciate Reina’s kiss. He is totally clueless… Reina gets a bit flustered at his reacting like a teenage virgin kid. Do you need a dictionary? I like you very much. Since we were about 12. Leon breaks the convo up by telling Mau we are leaving.
Laura and Fanny tell Ximena they are worried about her. But seems Laura is not so much, ‘I have a life too, you know?’ Fanny looks at Laura like not approving where this convo is heading now.
At the house, Luz, the boys and Fernando are in ‘battle’ disguise with bandanas and face color to have a water gun battle. They sprinkle all over Alicia and Brianna who are sunbathing. Nando is reading a Stephen Hawking book. He is not into it but waves to Brianna when she calls him.
In the house, YoMama and Isa have discovered the post-hurricane kitchen. They are sickened. Isa tells YoMama Fernando gave the day off to all the staff. YoMama asks her if she will go see Reeky. Isa says he is the only one that will even notice her. Isa tells YoMama to clean (LOL!!!). YoMama finds a pancake whole enough to eat… she blows the dry flour off it (LOL! Must be desperately hungry)

Ines is out of jail (I assume on bail) and goes to see Rita in the hospital. She is repentant and asks Rita to forgive her. Rita does and assumes this contrite behavior means that Ines and Garabato have broken up. Ines informs her that that is not the case.

Jarocha shows Pablo the video Rita made where she tells him that she along with his parents worked to keep him and Esmeralda apart and he finally learns that the babies are his. Jarocha asks him what he plans to do now that he knows the truth and poor spineless Monica wants to know if this new revelation means the wedding is off (dude, someone buy this girl some self respect!). Pablo tells her he has to speak with Esmeralda and runs across the street to confront his old love.
Pablo and Esmeralda are now face to face, he tells her that he knows the truth and then he makes the mortal mistake of asking Esmeralda if the kids are his. Esmeralda tells him that the fact he knows the truth changes nothing, what does he expect her to do? Drop everything and run back to him? Naw homie, that's not going to happen, because she explains, their problems are theirs alone, and it was not his parents and the lies that tore them apart, it was lack of trust, and she once told him he would regret the unkind words he had about the babies, he should be satisfied to know that the kids are hers and she's enough for them.

Hasta El Fin Del Mundo #41 10/13/14 Broken Faces and Broken Hearts
This was a packed episode, lots of serious things going on as our story kicks into high gear. Sorry, I just couldn't think of snarky captions for the pictures.

After the dance show, Lupe' asks Paco if Sofia is more like her mother than her father.
Chava and Sofia talk before she goes home.
Alexa tries to call Alan but he doesn't answer.
Manolo's thugs punch and kick Alan.
New:
Now that all her daughters have gone out for the evening Greta realizes how big and empty the house feels. Fausto tell her she's experiencing empty nest syndrome. It was bound to happen sooner or later. As if in answer to her mother's sadness, Sofia comes through the front door. It's been a hard day. The workers were able to handle a crisis and now Pato and Silvana are finishing up at the factory. Greta notices a spot on Sofia's blouse. Sofia says she spilled a little of the tostado de pata she ate at Cuco's Place. "Tostado de Pata!??" Greta wrinkles her nose and waves her hand in disdain. Sofia tells them it was delicious! But she's had a hard day and now it's off to bed. Sofia runs upstairs. Greta wonders about the change in her daughter. Fausto thinks it's good for Sofia to try new things and have new and different experiences before she gets tied down to Pato.

Skipping the old.....
we're back at the fight and German aka big sexy questions Danilo on why he has possession of Ale's ring. Danilo says German has no right questioning him since he and Ale are no longer together. If he is in possession of it, it is because she gave it to him.
Esteban angrily walks towards Acacia and Ulises, then decides to slow his roll. He calls out her name and says he thought she no longer wanted to see Ulises. Acacia says they talked and worked it out. After all a girl can change her mind. Esteban says if she wants to believe Ulises, then he has nothing more to say and starts to leave. Ulises calls him back. He reiterates that what he told Acacia was the truth and he will demonstrate it. Esteban says he just needs to prove himself to her. If this is what she wants, he will respect her decision. If he breaks your heart again, I will be the first to be there for you.
German aka big sexy doesn't believe that Ale would give Danilo the ring. She never took it off. Danilo says he was the one that pulled her out of the hell hole she was in. (Ummm..not exactly as I remember. I believe you were the one who put her in hell, dipsh!t). so you know who abused her says German and starts fighting again with Danilo. Norberto runs up and breaks the fight. Norberto tells Danilo that he doesn't have to explain anything to German about his business. He no longer works for me or lives in my house. Danilo tells Norberto not to worry about it. They were having a discussion on his breakup with Ale. He's also jealous in my relationship with Ale. Do you think it's nothing replies German. I love Ale. Norberto says it's best they break up. That girl was a bad influence in German's life. German doesn't agree. He will always be grateful that she supported him. He walks off. Norberto says he was worried that German found out about Danilo's other business. Danilo assures him he will never tell anyone that Norberto visits one of his girls. I'm glad that you don't want Ale for your son. I want her for myself.

Hasta El Fin Del Mundo #40 10/10/4 Plots, Parties and Punches
Greta talks to Alan privately. Alan claims he knew nothing about Alexa taking the necklace and pawning it. Though they are a couple Alexa doesn't tell him everything. He offers to contact his family and get the money to buy the necklace back. Greta refuses his offer. She just wants Alan to keep taking care of Alexa the way he has been. The Ripoll family will get the necklace back and give Alexa money so she and Alan can go back to Spain. Greta even offers to send financial support to Alan whenever he needs it. (I have to ask: What evil creature snuck into Greta's bedroom at night and sucked out all her brains? If Pato doesn't bankrupt the Ripoll's, Alan will.)
At the factory Sofia is on the phone trying to work out a deal with Ripoll's northern distributor, Mr. Armendarez, to replace the shipment of chocolate that was lost in the truck accident. Sofia tells him they can replace the shipment in a few days, but not overnight. Amendarez gets angry and abruptly hangs up on her. Sofia can't believe it! Pato tells Sofia that she's under too much stress. Isn't it time for her to let him handle things? He'll take over for now and she can plan their wedding.

Our worst nightmares have become reality if this be truth.....
Lo Del Nuevo:
• Johnny’s walking the streets on his way to the bus stop, mooning over losing Jennifer to Don Nicolas--like he ever had her to begin with….. Moon-Boy trips over a stand up cardboard cutout of some famous model/actress and now falls in love with her. (Is this guy certifiable or what??? What idiot falls in love with a cardboard cutout? Only the kind of clown with scrambled sk!t for brains—the Televisa kind.)
• Ana gives Diego her reasons for believing Yo Momma is her momma: the rare song Yo was croaking; the fact she wears cherry red nail polish; her being from Ecatapec where they believe Ana is also from—despite it having a population of a million or more people, as Diego is quick to remind her; her having had another daughter prior to Isabela; and the fact that Yolo plays the guitar. (Works for me!)
• Luz breaks in on the convo and Ana’s reminded that they all have to get ready for the quinceañera blowout right away. Once Ana and Luz leave the room, Diego calls up the new investigation officer for Ana’s case and gives her the lead on Yo-low.

La Malqurida, capitulo 35. 10/10/14
Skipping the old.........
Rubio asks Ale is she is going to work today. She pretty much tells him to mind his own and Rosa backs her up. Luisa tells him to go back to work. Rubio comments that all the women have attitudes today. Rosa asks him to accompany her to her room. She needs help with something and drags him by the ear when he protests. Ale asks Luisa what's with the 20 questions from Rubio? Luisa doesn't know either. He even asked her what time German left last night. But she didn't tell him. The girls share a giggle on German's escape from the window. Luisa gets a call and it's Arturo.
Manuel tells German aka big sexy about his new business idea and how Norberto is backing him up. He even talked to Norberto about his painting. Manuel wants to know if German found out why Ale broke up with him. German has a smile on his face and says they are back together. The reconciliation was the best thing that could have happened to him. Ale demonstrated just how much she loves me. We made love with such passion that it surprised me. I always thought something really bad happened to her. You still think she was abused asks Manuel. I believe that more and more lately replies German. But she doesn't want to tell me. I am in love with her and don't know much about her. I know nothing about her past or her family. The only thing she has ever told me was about her little brother that died. It must be terrible to lose a brother says Manuel. But after everything that happened she must tell you about herself. You have every right to know since you are together. Ask her to be honest with you. Especially since it is you who would understand anything.

Hasta El Fin Del Mundo #39 Pato's Plans Starts in Motion
Our dear Mads is under the weather. So here is a quick and dirty recap from memory of Thursday night's episode:
Alexa cries to Armie that Sofia and Greta are giving her the money to go back to Spain, but she really doesn't want to go. Armie tells her to be honest with her family, they will understand. Alexa says she doesn't have the courage to do that.
Silvana's jealousy gets the best of her and she confronts Patricio in his office. She's in love with him and can't stand to see him in the arms of Sofia Ripoll. Sofia walks in to see Silvana crying but not soon enough to hear why. She takes Silvana away to talk privately. Pato sits at his desk planning damage control.
Dani and Lucas sneak away and have a make out session in the warehouse of the factory. Marisol tracks Lucas down and interrupts the kissing and heavy breathing to offer him some of the cornbread she made. (Girl, it's gonna take more than cornbread. Just sayin'...)
Silvana lies to Sofia. Silvana says she just found out the man she's in love with is engaged. She was talking to Pato about personnel issues and noticed one of the factory workers has a name similar to her (fake) boyfriend's and that's what caused the emotional outburst. Sofia buys it.
Pato talks to Tavares at the police station. It seems that Pato's fingerprints were found all over that stolen money. Tavares asks Pato if he'd like to change his story? Of course he would! And he does. Chava is now off the hook.
Paco re-opens his shop against the wishes of Araceli. He's tired of sitting at home and needs to be active. Araceli warns him to be careful.
Chava takes a walk and runs into Araceli. He confesses there is a woman who is always on his mind. Araceli guesses that it's Ceci, but Chava tells her the woman consuming all his waking and dreaming moments is Sofia Ripoll. Araceli can't understand why warm, passionate Chava would be drawn to a cold android like Sofia.
Patricio tells Sofia that he put in a few good words with Tavares and the all charges and suspicions against Chava have been dropped.
Irma can't get in to see her sick "friend" because he's been taken in for medical tests. She'll have to wait until morning. Irma wants to go home now, but Martina says if Irma leaves she'll go to Armando and show him the unique mole on her back - the one that both she and her brother have - that matches the mole on Nandito's back. And she will tell Armie that Nandito Ain't. His. Kid. Irma agrees to stay.
Alan is helping Dani with her English homework. He offers to help her with other subjects as well. As Dani walks upstairs he leers at her and says he can hardly control himself.
Sofia tells Chava that Patricio talked to Tavares. Chava isn't happy. He doesn't like feeling like he owes Patricio something. (I don't get this. Chava doesn't owe Pato anything.)
Lupe' is having a dance recital at Cuco's place tonight. She goes to the factory with Chava to hand out fliers. Lupe' is talking to Dani when she is spotted by Silvana. They have an argument and in the process of throwing Lupe' out, Silvana knocks her to the floor. Lupe's ankle is sprained. Chava helps her home and now has to help improvise something for the dance program. Lucas is going to help.
One of the Ripoll trucks has an accident and an entire shipment of chocolate is lost. (I cannot believe I had to type that. An entire shipment of chocolate... gone. Truly tragic.) The client waiting for the shipment is so angry he hangs up on Sofia. Now the entire factory has to scramble to get another shipment ready to go in less than 24 hours. Pato tells Sofia not to worry, he'll take charge. Uh-Oh.

Alexa cries to Armie that Sofia and Greta are giving her the money to go back to Spain, but she really doesn't want to go. Armie tells her to be honest with her family, they will understand. Alexa says she doesn't have the courage to do that.
Silvana's jealousy gets the best of her and she confronts Patricio in his office. She's in love with him and can't stand to see him in the arms of Sofia Ripoll. Sofia walks in to see Silvana crying but not soon enough to hear why. She takes Silvana away to talk privately. Pato sits at his desk planning damage control.
Dani and Lucas sneak away and have a make out session in the warehouse of the factory. Marisol tracks Lucas down and interrupts the kissing and heavy breathing to offer him some of the cornbread she made. (Girl, it's gonna take more than cornbread. Just sayin'...)
Silvana lies to Sofia. Silvana says she just found out the man she's in love with is engaged. She was talking to Pato about personnel issues and noticed one of the factory workers has a name similar to her (fake) boyfriend's and that's what caused the emotional outburst. Sofia buys it.
Pato talks to Tavares at the police station. It seems that Pato's fingerprints were found all over that stolen money. Tavares asks Pato if he'd like to change his story? Of course he would! And he does. Chava is now off the hook.
Paco re-opens his shop against the wishes of Araceli. He's tired of sitting at home and needs to be active. Araceli warns him to be careful.
Chava takes a walk and runs into Araceli. He confesses there is a woman who is always on his mind. Araceli guesses that it's Ceci, but Chava tells her the woman consuming all his waking and dreaming moments is Sofia Ripoll. Araceli can't understand why warm, passionate Chava would be drawn to a cold android like Sofia.
Patricio tells Sofia that he put in a few good words with Tavares and the all charges and suspicions against Chava have been dropped.

Weekend Discussion: Past vs Present Telenovela Conventions: What's the best combination?
What would you rather see again vs what's happening now? What do you miss about novelas of 20 years ago?
Let's not get into discussions about series length; we have done that to death.
I personally would prefer scenes to be longer. Sometimes when watching novelas now I get whiplash from the quick scene changes after two or three lines of dialogue. It gives the illusion of more action happening when in reality no more information is communicated in that episode than in an episode shot 20 years ago.
Let's have fewer situations about pregnancy entrapment or at least demonstrate that it mostly doesn't work, We have all witnessed at least one example of this in real life and all know that the consequences aren't pretty. The Isabelas of this world don't usually get what they want.
Force producers to make up their minds about the period of the story. It really annoys me when they can't make up their minds and we have no idea whether it's 1950 or 2010.

nothing but the truth. Alejandra closes in on herself and says this should have
never happened. German calls b.s. on that. He loves her. She loves him. They’ve
just had an amazing love-making session. She’s a grown woman and they should be
able to speak about this. He never expected to be the first man in her life—they
aren’t living in the last century, after all. He talks about how at first she
was afraid of even letting him touch her. But he’s happy to know that in
addition to all the love they have for each other, they can also feel pleasure.
He thinks it’s good for a woman to both be able to give and receive pleasure.
He would like Ale to tell him what’s going on/what happened. He can’t help her
if she doesn’t tell him. Ale snaps that she doesn’t need help!

This is mostly bullet points style, there were a lot of short scenes that I put together for better flow. I hope it all makes sense.
Ana hears a voice singing her mother’s song,
as she remembers being a little child and watching her mom sing and play the
guitar (fun trivia – little Ana is played by Pablo Montero’s real daughter; look
closely and you will see the resemblance).
Yes, the person singing in present time is Yolanda’s and
Carmen Salinas is doing her best to do justice to the song, but she doesn’t
have the voice for it (if Yolanda truly is the mother, then her voice really
transformed over the years).
Ana walks into the room and stares at
Yolanda, who’s wondering what’s wrong, has the nana seen a ghost? Kind of…

doesn’t reply, she just leaves, she is just too shocked right now.
Sisterly advice
Fanny finds Alicia’s scrapbook with I heart
Gustavo written all over and tries to warn her little sister that the guy is
bad news. But Alicia thinks that she knows better and he will NOT hurt her the
same way that he hurt Fanny. (Ugh, Alicia, Isa’s obnoxiousness is rubbing off on
you. Careful!).
Fanny thinks that Alicia should be interested
in boys her own age, but then she gets interrupted by Enreek's call, confirming
their date/ creepy meet up.

La Gata #29- Thu 10/9 - La Afrenta
Silencioso reminds Esme that everything he does is for her to get Pablo back. From across the street, Pablo watches. Esme accuses Silencioso of trying to use her to get his revenge on Pablo and his family. He says that Augie has to "responder" (answer) for his crimes. Pablo has to answer to Esme for his crimes as well. He knows it was difficult for her to tell Pablo she wasn't going to see him again, but he hopes she'll feel differently tomorrow. Esme says she won't change her mind. It hurts too much to hurt Pablo. Silencioso hugs Esme to comfort her and Pablo says he really loves Esme, but she's just a tramp.
Monica tries to call him. She apparently had been listening to the audiobook of "How to Develop Your Telekinetic Powers" and summoned the phone to her side (it was previously on the coffee table). When she can't reach Pablo, she calls Lorenza, who tells her not to talk to Pablo right now because he's going through a rough time…he saw "that woman" and he's feeling confused and wants to break off the engagement. Monica starts getting weepy and Lorenza keeps up the fiction that no one believes--that Pablo loves her...but he's obsessed with that woman. Lorenza tells her to avoid Pablo's calls, turn off her cell, and Lorenza will email her when she's got Pablo's strings back on. "You'll marry Pablo, or my name isn't Lorenza de Martinez Negrete!" She's said this before, which makes me think that's not her name.
