Refugio Para el Amor #147 Fri 11/2/12 You say yes!! I say no!! You say WHY!! and I say HELL NO, I WON'T GO!! ... now Mi Janita esta contenta y su mamita esta' asfixia!!

Refrito:
Repeat of Boris provoking Lorenzo and Fabi stopping Lore but Lore saying Boris is right, Lore cannot offer Janah what Boris can (or like he will say later, he can only offer her ‘pan hoy y hambre manana’ bread today and hunger tomorrow)

Rod telling Janah RE already lived her life and is now collecting on what she invested. Live your life and not the life your mother wants to live through you.

Rod confirms to Janah that Pato and Luci left for SFeA.

Chelo and Mateo at the park, Mateo works Chelo into agreeing to buy him an ice cream.

At Het Het Paz insists to Luci to call Rod back. Luci says came home to avoid him. Paz says you cannot avoid him forever, you work together and have a son together…

Rod is buying Alexia a chocolate ice cream and in come Chelo with Mateo wearing a green turtle mask. Mateo recognizes Rod and calls him by name, to the astonishment of both Rod and Chelo. Rod introduces himself to CHelo and then tells the turtle that he has not had the pleasure… Mateo takes off the mask and Rod recognizes him finally and greets him. Glad to see you again (hand shake). Mateo asks why he has not stopped by to buy another paper… Rod’s cell phone rings, he politely excuses himself to answer but there is no one at the other end, although from the image that the phone showed him he can tell it was Luci. (we get a glimpse of a flustered Luci unwilling to talk) Rod wakes up from his shock quickly enough to introduce the kids that he does not know are both his children to each other. Rod smiles at the kids shaking hands.

Lo Nuevo:

Mat: Look, dad, Rodrigo’s daughter does go to school!
Alex: You don’t?
Chelo: Well, they still won’t take him in, he is still too young.
Mat: That is not true! I am big. I just turned five!!
Chelo: Well, they still won’t take him in the kinder at the neighborhood.
Mat: Then what do I do, dad?
Rod: Well, please don’t take this as an interference from me, but I think Mateo should be going to school already… if you allow me, I can offer my help…
Chelo: No way jose.. I don’t know you and I won’t let you do anything!… lets go, son!
Mat: But … what about my ice cream??
Chelo: I will buy you a popsicle on the way (home)! Lets go, son!
Mat: But make it vanilla flavor! Goodbye Rodrigo! Goodbye Alexia!! (he looks so cute waving his hand goodbye to both Rod and Alexia. Rod and Alex both wave back to him)
Rod: Goodbye Mateo!
Alex: Dad, isn’t it true Mateo should be at school like me? He is already 5 y.o.! he is big!
Rod: Yes, mi amor, Mateo is big. He should be at school already. He is 5 years old now. (then he whispers lower to himself) he is 5 years old.. like my son Rodrigo.

At Het Het Paz has words of wisdom for Luci: Mija, even if you hang up on Rod a thousand times, your heart will keep on calling out for him. I can understand your big sorrow, things did not start on the right foot between you two, and when you both wanted to right the ship, others had put too many stones in the way(I would say boulders!) in the way! Too many lies, too many dirty tricks! … to prevent you two from being together!
Luci: What do I do now? Its been 5 years! And I keep on loving him even knowing we can’t be together.
Paz: Keep on loving him, mija. But in silence. Don’t shout out your love because the only thing you will hear is the echo of your pain! Love him with dignity, in silence, giving yourself your place. And without forgetting there is a child out there waiting to be found. That child will join you two for live, Luci.. .forever.

Chelo bought Mateo a vanilla popsicle. Mateo wants to know why CHelo is angry. Chelo claims he is not angry, he just does not like what the people talk about when they go out together. Mateo tells him who cares what they say or if they make fun of us. Don’t think I have not noticed.  But the truth is you are my dad and I am your son. So what does it matter.  (you can tell this kid is very mature for his age, and that Chelo is moved by his words).

RE is battering Connie for her intention to marry Oscar. What do you mean you will marry Oscar when you are married?? (Mati tries to help saying Connie divorced just after Aldo was born, but RE takes it as offense). RE wants to believe Connie has NOT forgotten that she married by church and although she is divorced, to the eyes of God she is married… Connie says RE’s actions of the past are worse than her intention to get married being FOR LOVE… RE changes tactic to play sad bystander… and she starts to pray with her hands on Connie’s head that God forgive her for her sin and save her soul when she is in God’s presence. Connie is in disbelief, Mati is nodding ‘my God!’

Max is at the apartment, but there’s no Vicky… he calls Celina (his sec at TL offices) to call his wife to tell her he went out on business but will make it home before dinner time (before the asking for Janah’s hand )  At Nicole’s salon, Nicole and Vicky are counting money that looks way too shiny (do they brush some nail polish on the money for practice?)  Vicky tells Nicole she does plan to go meet Max but she wants him to wait some… Vicky assures to Nicole that Max won’t get the SUV back, no matter what he tries. She is going to the apt, but Max will not get the hanky panky he expects.

Chelo and Mateo get home. Chelo wants Mateo to promise he won’t talk to Rodrigo or anyone else ever again.  Mateo says he will still sell the papers to Rod… so Chelo has to give in on that one. Mateo asks Chelo not to be mad at him, yo te quiero mucho. Hug

At Het Het Pato is telling Magda and Paz about Janah returning home after 5 yrs in Italy getting her architecture degree. Tonight Boris parents will ask for her hand in marriage. Paz wonders if Janah is too young for that. Pato says she is not that young anymore although there are some things that even if we don’t agree with them, they can’t change.

At Vio’s business carwash, Lorenzo is walking around remembering Boris’ words and looking very somber…

At TL offices, Oscar is in Janah’s offices doing work stuff… tomorrow she will be introduced to the whole team. The team lead will take her (saying will hold her hand). In comes Boris without knocking or excusing himself…
(this I have to script word for word, it is too good, Oscar is an awesome role and Harry G. is great in it. And poor Janah can only limit herself to roll eyes and yell ‘Boris!’ often)
B: I hope the ‘hand holding’ thing was just speaking figuratively.
O: Excuse me, Boris, why do you waltz in without knocking first?
B: No, there is no need for me to knock before coming in because this is my fiance’s office.
O: (a bit later) … let me tell you that in this office you have to make an appointment before showing up and have to follow the rules.
B: I don’t get why you tell me this… (scans Oscar with his eyes in undermining mode from bottom to top) Oscar!… Janah is the daughter of the owner of the company and I can visit her whenever I want to.
O: You are very wrong. Here there are two major stockowners and many smaller stockowners, including me. And we manage this consorcio very different (than you would think). So if you want to come in, respect the rules. Good afternoon, Janah.
B: No manches, Janah, this guy is a jerk! But things will change when we are married!
J: They WON”T change! This is my place of work. And even though I am the daughter of MTL, I am an employee like any other, with the same rights and responsibilities. Got it??
(the Janah table at the Patio is cheering in approval: ‘NUFF SAID!! YOU GO GIRL!!…)

At the penthouse apartment, Vicky is letting Max slurp her neck but she is a block of ice… he notices and questions her on it. She comes up with ‘we haven’t been together so long I want us to go slow’ excuse.

RE calls Gala to summon her to come with Rod for the dinner party. Rod comes home with Alexia and Gala rejects Alexia’s attempt to greet her with a hug because Alexia has dirty hands (chocolate ice cream?). Rod witnesses the ‘motherly love… NOT!’ scene so he rats at her for her lack of motherly love (did you really expect any different, Rod?). Gala won’t let Alexia dirty up her clothing. Rod is just dropping Alexia home, have to go back to the office.  Gala keeps nagging nagging… Rod keeps nagging back ‘you are such a good mother!’ and leaves. Gala yells at Brigida to serve comida.
Poor Alexia is basically ordered by Gala to eat liver with broccoli/peas/carrot puree… YUCK!! The poor thing was asking Brigida if she had prepared her favorite chicken dish. Later Gala is still forcing Alexia to eat the liver and the whole puree… ‘if you want to be as pretty as I am, you have to eat what I tell you’.(YIKES!!!) ‘you did not eat it right when they served it and now it is cold and tastes even worse, but you still have to eat it! (DOUBLE YIKES!!! Even Brigida behind the wall is making faces at Gala’s behavior. As a mother, even I get gurgles at watching Gala force Alexia to eat and Alexia calling for her dad to get home already. ‘Papi, ven!!”)

At the other dinner table, CHelo, Mateo and Chuy are having dinner. Mateo is so funny noting he did wash his hands but CHelo hasn’t.  Chelo has to go wash his hands or Chuy won’t serve him.

At Het Het another dinner table? Paz, Ariche, Luci, Pato, Magda and Namurachi… Luci is saying grace and praying her son also has something to eat. Such a cheerful dinner party there… as always.

At office, Oscar compliments Rod on his taking the time to be the best father he can. Rod says Alexia is the only motivation for him to come home. He just has one look at her and my live gets brighter.

At Het Het they all are taking Pato for a stroll through town… and they just missed a call from Rod’s cell to Paz’ house. Rod is a bit flustered.

The nannie and Brigida are both feeling bad for Alexia, but Brigida discourages any attempt to rock the boat because Gala would kick them both to the curb immediately.

Julie tells her friend Carola(Thanks, Madelaine!) that she can’t allow Gala to ruin what they have invested so much time and effort… she won’t be without the TL fortune… Carola asks what will you do now? … flirt with Max… Really?... no! I am going after Claudio Linares again. Can you imagine Luci’s reaction that besides I am Rod’s MIL, I will be her own step mom??  (dream on, B____H!! Claudio is not your typical shallow brained target... )

At Het Het they are walking through town… Luci and Pato compliment each other’s efforts… They also talk about Pato wanting to continue his strive for walking. But what he is thankful for is that from the plane of the chair, he has learned to see people through their hearts.

At apartment, Vicky tells Max she wants to progress to own her own business… Max berates her that he did not come to talk about her business ownership dreams but to sleep with her. Vicky continues playing hard to get and leaves, ‘say hi to your wife. Bye’

In his car, Boris continues to be a pest to Janah… he has a surprise for her tonight. She is less than amused. Are you mad at me? … lets see, I want to clear the road… I don’t like for you to visit me at work. IF I went to Florence to study architecture, it was to put it into practice when I returned home.!!  Boris can’t even get her to smile at him. Gets a forced smirk instead.

Lorenzo talks to Vio … also tells her Boris is right… what can I offer Janah? ‘pan pa’ hoy y hambre pa’ manana’ Vio does not want him to talk that way. If the rich always were the better options, maybe Rod would be very happy now with Luci and she would not have left the hospital or lost her child… You are a very good taquero and with honor! You have progressed so much, you have 12 bikes with a locale… Lorenzo says there is a long way to go still, but already saving to buy a house… Vio says see? That is what gives you value/worth, you are on the way… You are great Lorenzo, and that ‘Boris’, all he has to offer is that he was born with silver spoon. He’s not even as handsome as you… Lorenzo thanks Vio for the encouragement..

Janah gets home mad. Mati tells her RE went out shopping with Genaro, is so enthused with tonight’s dinner… Janah not so much. Mati understands Janah is not enthused because she is not in love. Mati won’t try to keep communicating Janah with Lorenzo. Janah thanks her for telling her about Lorenzo everytime they talked… ‘each time you talked to me about him I felt like I had him with me, and yet we were so far…’

Alexia has fallen asleep at the table… Gala shouts for Brigida which scares Alexia, Gala tells Brigida to save the dinner in the fridge to serve again to Alexia tomorrow(Witch!!) and you will go to bed without your usual milk merienda. So tomorrow you will be hungry and will eat your food… (double witch!!)  Gala tells herself ‘poor thing, but if your dad won’t give me the time of day, someone will have to deal with the broken dishes’. Rod gets home, wants to see Alexia, but Gala says no and lies saying Alexia already had her night cereal of color animals. She hurries him to get ready, RE wants them to be on time for the dinner… Rod won’t engage in the fight so he heads to the shower..

At Het Het they are packing the current order for the hotel chain… tons of packing tape and bubble wrap everywhere…  Magda says she and Paz are the Quality Control dept. LOL! Pato compliments them for their achievement these last 5 yrs. Luci passes the compliments to Paz, Magda, Namurachi and everyone else.

Julie is visiting Claudio at office… She wants him to stop calling her Julieta.  She wants him to invite her somewhere for a drink. He is too busy.. ‘julie!’. She says it must be something about the men in this business… none go home to spend time with wives. She says he needs someone to pamper him and keep him company. Claudio says he got that with his daughter Luci… Julie keeps swinging the bat and wants to talk about ‘OUR present and OUR future’… Claudio gets serious… Julie walks behind his desk and starts with some speech that he is young, that he needs to rebuild his life, he is handsome and very interesting. They say the true 30’s begin at 50’s. Claudio says the same thing he told Luci already, he is not interested in marrying again because he feels he is still in love with his late wife. Julie then won’t go home empty handed so she makes him comply to them going out to keep each other company with no commitments.

At TL manor, RE is at her three sided mirror vanity, talks with Mati about not seeing herself as pretty as before, then she starts with some analogy about having put on too much makeup, and the lighting in the room in the evening not being enough… in darkness everything gets merged and blurry… Janah comes in. Turns out RE bought her the dress for tonight ‘I went alone so no one would influence in my decision..’. (man!! How appropriate for RE’s daughter ‘ask for hand’ dinner party… a solid black sheath… I would expect this to come right out of RE’s own closet rather than Janah… she wants Janay to follow her footsteps for sure… the sheath for her dressing style and the black color because this is her ‘execution’ party for sure!) Janah protests because she bought many nice dresses in Italy and wanted to wear one of them tonight… RE insists so Janah again has to roll her eyes and please mom dearest.. Again RE looks like a girl playing doll house, and Mati behind her nodding in disbelief…

At Het Het Don Aquiles does not want Luci or her town tour party to see that he is crippled… or that he keeps company with a baboso like Procopio… so they hide as the Luci party walks/rolls by.

Brigida brings Alexia a plate of sincronizadas (like the flat Mexican tostadas at taco bell) with chocolate milk. Alexia is very thankful.

At the dinner party at TL manor, Gala is cackling about her perfect marriage and relationship with Rod… She pressures Rod to say something… so he says ‘Gala is a woman like there are none anymore’ (LOL!)… Janah is sick enough with Gala’s speeches that she summons Melissa so they can leave the table for a few minutes…
It is Boris’ parents turn to babble… Aldo is having fun with allt his… Rod is sucking a sour grape, Gala is smiling widely..

Janah shouts to Melissa that she does not want to get married. That RE wants to control her life, and to destroy her life like she destroyed Rod’s.. it is choking her, but she would not forgive herself if something happens to RE. maybe it is the destiny of the TL.. to be unhappy and never to know happiness…

Lorenzo calls Luci to release some sorrows… don’t say anything, just listen… I am dying of sadness… as we are talking now, they are asking for my Janitah’s hand in marriage. And I can’t do anything!! I love her more than anything in the world… And if she gets married, what do I do with this love?? Where do I throw it?? How do I make it so it won’t hurt?? (oh man!… I feel Lorenzo’s pain, I want these two in their own novella SO BAD!!)

At exec dinner, RE gets to the point… Boris’ dad formally requests from RE and Max the hand of Janah in marriage for his son Boris… Janah is short of breath and explodes… NO!!! I won’t get married to Boris!! (everyone is shocked quiet… Max smirks… Melissa smiles in approval and we can tell Rod, Connie, and Oscar feel this was for the better, but they are giving a controlled reaction to not make the awkward moment worse... I can't see Aldo but he must be enjoying this...)

Previews: Next Ep is not until Wednesday!!  VO: Courage wins over fear!
Mati calls Lore to let him know Janah did not get engaged, Lore can’t hide his joy/relief… we see Lore and Janah have a very steamy meeting (apparently at the place where they cook the tacos) with kisses and hand holding… Rod calls Luci… ‘we can’t be separated. We have a son to find and if we stick together we will find him! (i will add a little word of wisdom for Boris... quien rie al ultimo, rie mejor!)

I am ready to sign a lease for my spot at a HUGE HUGE table pro-Janah/Lorenzo at the Patio, serving Italian ices charged with your fav liquor with tacos de chicharron and tacos de papa…

Weekend Discussion: Gay Characters and Storylines in Telenovelas; Still a Long Way to Go

In the nearly two decades I have been watching telenovelas I can count only on one hand how many gay characters I've seen in them whose names I can remember. There have been some (not necessarily Televisa's) with minor gay characters (as in appeared in a handful of episodes) who fit all the popular stereotypes: Swishy men in cliché jobs like hairdressers, interior decorators, or fashion designers come and go on novelas and we roll our eyes and ask when the producers will finally get it right and show us some gay characters we can believe in life situations that are realistic.

A few productions did.

Abismo de pasión #159 11/1/12: La Hermita celebrates Día de Los Culpables

Refrito: Clearly Damian did not go to the Fernando Colunga school of snakebite cures. More’s the pity.

Lo Nuevo:  We're going into Día de los Muertos and we didn't get one dead person tonight! We were robbed. Oh well, on with the show...

Oh man, this is gonna be good. The Orange-Brown Recluse confronts the Black Widow in the dark yard of Hacienda Arango. She assures Alfie that Dam and Elisa are going to meet the same fate as Rosendo and Stef. Alfie calls Carmina a Dirty Rotten Ho and Carmina retaliates by explaining, in great detail, that Rosendo was always putting the horns on Alf because Alf was so lacking in the sack. Ouch! Do we think Alf is gonna back down? Oh hell no. She spits back that Carmina is guilty of killing Lupe, shooting Augusto, she has a witness, and long before the kids get back from their honeymoon Carmina’s gonna be in jail paying for all her crimes!

“Have you seen Gabino around?” asks the Recluse, “Cause he’s out taking care of business for me and you’re going to know the pain of burying your kid just like I did.” OK, that one got to Alfie.

Amor Bravío #56 (Uni 51) Thu 11/1/12 Amor Decidido

D'Andres drops the simultaneous bombs that (1) Camila's mom is in Vegas with Dio alone and (2) he works for Dio.  His excuse is that he knows Dio wants to get with Camila and so he accepted the job to keep all interested parties, including Dio himself, away from her.  She thinks that's ridiculous and he's just trying to justify himself.  Cam can't understand that Dio, aka her mom's boyfriend, would be interested in her.  D'Andres says one horndog recognizes another.  Plus, he doesn't trust Dio, so he's being a double-agent.  Cam admits she also distrusts him, based on Osvalso's report that Dio had once tried to buy La Malquerida.  She accepted his excuse at the time, but mostly to avoid a fight with her mother.  She knows mamita trusts him implicitly and she's not ok with it.  Camila asks D'Andres not to hide things from her or lie to her…too late, babe.  Those are going to be some monumental fireworks.  Even Mr. 5ft is encouraging him to come clean.

Disgusting Leo is raiding the fancy liquor cabinet.  Dio's new valet tells him to cut it out.  Leo actually tries to pull rank on the guy.  The valet tells him to get his ass into the shower cause he stinks.  Leo makes a disgusting remark about the maid, the shower, and washing.

Piedad and the other maid talk about what to do now that Leo is out.  Piedad is considering leaving, maybe to go back north, maybe to find Fidencio's family.  She's sure Leo had something to do with Fidencio not showing up for the wedding.  The other maid thinks she ought to ask Camila for help first instead of running away.  She thinks the ranch is safer than risking Leo following them.

Por ella soy Eva #77 11/1/12: Don't Cry For Me Grupo Imperio, The Truth Is I Never Left You.

Helena tells Pluto that it's too soon for him to accompany Lalito to a school function, which he offered to do.  "Too soon for what?" Pluto asks, and Helena tells him that what happened with Juan she doesn't want happening again.  He looks hurt.

Eva is at the front desk at GI talking down Fernando to Marcela and the Evalettes over the recent car incident.  Because Cindy is short, twice Eva calls out for her over her head as though she doesn't see her.  From the hallway Rebeca is scrutinizing Eva's every move.  Eva sees this and asks Rebeca, "Why are you looking at me so much?  Do I have monkeys on my face or what?"

In Rebeca's office, Renato comes in with some papers and attempts to flirt her up.  She strokes his face and tells him that with her he doesn't have to pretend to be something that he's not.  He says he doesn't understand her and asks what she means.  She shakes her head and he leaves.  Angelica calls to complain about Santiago being broke, all the while twirling a fancy umbrella over her head (what? does it rain inside their apartment?  is there too much sun in there?).  Angelica wants Rebeca's help.  Rebeca cannot offer her a job, but she has an idea.  Rebeca is laying a trap to tell for sure if Juan Carlos is masquerading as Eva, and she gives Angelica a list of items to bring to GI.  Angelica shows up at GI with a suitcase full of clothes.

In their office, Santiago is complaining to Fernando about Paty having ruined him, and that Angelica doesn't like to work.  Ferni tells him, you know women hate us.

Mimi and Eva are in Eva's office.  Mimi is sad about being let go from GI but she understands why.  She laments that Adriano never notices her, he wants Eva.  Eva tries to console her by saying that Eva is a copy of Mimi.  Mimi says that now she can help JC prove his innocence by helping from outside GI; today she will go visit Eugenia.  They cheer themselves up by dancing and singing the "life is the color of roses" song, and Eva throws flowers in the air.  They give each other a look of regret, acknowledging that they're only pretending.

Fernando and Marcela are arguing about the car and Ferni refuses to drive it.  He says he'll drive the old one that he bought with HIS money "as the boss of the family that I am, or was."  Marcela tells him as you wish, and drives off.  Ferni's old car proceeds to bellow steam out from under the hood (even though he can't start it) and Ferni curses his luck, saying that even the car is in solidarity with his flaca.  At home, the kids are helping set out dinner and ask Marcela where dad is.  She tells them, "You know how your father is a little difficult sometimes." (a little? sometimes?)  Ferni shows up later grumbling about the car, and Kevin cheerfully tells him that it's good then that they have a new car.  Ferni suppresses his stressed out fake smile.

Rebeca asks a favor of Eva.  Eva, who can never say a simple yes or no to anything, goes off on several tangents, finally pontificating about rehiring the hundred women fired by the deceased Juan Carlos.  Rebeca reminds her it's only 98 because 2 have been rehired.  Eva gets on her soapbox about women united while Rebeca struggles not to roll her eyes.  She tells Eva her friend is down on her luck and is selling lingerie in the privacy of the women's room there at GI.  They enter the ladies room and there's a variety of sexy (and skimpy) clothing being tossed around, and Eva notes that these are for a young woman, starting to point at Rebeca but then slights her to point to an Evalette instead.  Rebeca coaxes her to try something on, but Eva refuses as the widow that she is.  So Rebeca gets the other women to try things on while Eva begins to squirm.

Refugio Para el Amor #146 Thu 11/1/12 Time For Me To Fly, Part II, Come Fly With Me, Let's Fly, Let's Fly Away

Torreslanda Bidness, Luci's Office:

Pato and Luci are having a little conversation, you know the one from yesterday, about how she can't be near her Roddy right now, ok, not her Roddy, but you know she is thinkin' it. She doesn't want to be the "other woman" even though Rod told her that she is the one and only. She loves him so much and so she can't be near him, so she is going to Het Het and doesn't know when she is coming back, probably indefinitely. Pato asks her what about me? What about us?

Rod and Gagme's Apartment of No Love Lost:

Gagme, also now known as Skankarella, is sleepin' off that alcohol, doncha know, when Rod comes bustin' into that bedroom, he normally wouldn't go into. Skankarella, assuming it's Frigid, says I told you not to bother me already. Well, Rod informs her its not Frigid, its him. Gagme gets up for this and says to what do I owe the honor of your presence in this bedroom, hmmm? Rod is pithed at Gagme and tells her well since you were sleepin' it off, Alexia was unwell in school and you couldn't be bothered to go get her, too busy sleeping. Ya know, Frigid, the Nanny and I spend way more time with Alexia than you do, so obvio Alexia isn't important to you. Gagme contradicts him and says of course Alexia is important to her, and don't forget Rod es Mio, you will never be free, while she gives him a flirty look, playin' with his tie, and he backs away as if he is catching the Skankarella's cooties.

Back to Luci's Office:

Pato is pressing his point, what about us, you and I? Luci is looking like Que??? He tries to explain to her how much they have been helping each other lo, these five years, helping those ladies in Het Het, she just can't abandon these things. She tells Pato of course she is not abandoning the foundation, it's just painful for her to be here at the Torreslanda Bidness. She'll miss her Papa, her friends but she has to go. So Pato, I'm sorry about this but I have to say it, is crossing the line here, and accuses Luci of abandoning her son, what about her son, he asks? You gonna abandon him too, just cause you don't want to be near Rod? Luci is now speechless and gives Pato a look, and Pato now realizes he has crossed a line.

Amor Bravío #55 (Uni 50) Wed 10/31/12 "It is what it is"

We begin our capitulo with Daddy Diaz showing up at Isavibora’s hotel room.  She is clearly not surprised to see him, as she says “Vaya, vaya”, which I have come to understand is the same as “Well! Well!”  He predictably wants to know what i$ in it for me?  Isa snaps and tells him to clear the dollar $igns out of his eyeballs, that she has already checked him out and she knows he is broke (beggars can’t be choosers).  She tell$ him she will decide what he get$.  She fills him in the Dan Jr has inherited a big ranch but cannot come to claim it yet, because he is a fugitive of the law in Chile.  “Que chamaco!” he claims, “Where did he inherit it from?”.  “From your ex-wife’s lover”, reveals Isavibora.  Thrilled with the karmic justice of it all, Senor Diaz replies “He takes my woman, and I take his money.”.

Way north  in Las Vegas, Agustina, post- “Grim Tail of Riding Hood” (shame on me x 2), she frets about her quickie marriage to Dio.   She wonders how she will tell the girls and where the couple will live.  She is worried about Camila’s recovery and is reluctant to abandon her at this time.  Dio pronounces, that at great personal sacrifice (wink, wink), he will agree to live at El Rancho Malquerida with Agustina so she can be close to his secret fantasy girl….oh, sorry, Camila and Xinmoral.

Por ella soy Eva #76 10/31/12: Rebeca Might Have The Goods, Fern Gets A Gift, Mimi Is Fired

Good Evening y'all and Happy Halloween. I am recapping this epi for TJ who has no power where she is. Our thoughts are with you TJ, and we hope you are fine and get your power restored quickly. Now for the recap.

We open this evening with Helena looking at the ring that Eugenia gave to her, saying JC intended giving it to her. Helena is sad gazing at the ring, she didn't throw it away, and puts it up, still thinking of JC. In comes Lalito and she helps him with his schoolwork.

We cut to the office where Eva is meeting with Adri and she tells him she has lost two of the pages of that report he gave her, you know the ones Rebeca took, well Adri is fit to be tied, it is confidential doncha know, and he wants those papers back like yesterday, well Eva says she'll look at the pension, and around her office, maybe she just dropped them or misfiled them, she didn't say that about the misfiling, but you get the drift. Well Adri could just kill her! Well, Eva gets really upset and starts to cry, and Adri is yelling, but then stops and says he could just die, if someone else gets those papers. So Eva says she wouldn't want to be a widow for a second time. Eva is really bringin' on the tears. Mimi comes in and starts giving Adri hell, so Adri asks for Eva's forgivness. He so wants to make it up to Eva, at first she says no, and then she says ok, dinner, manana. Adri is very happy. Both Mimi and Eva go and Adri runs his fingernails over the door in frustration.

Refugio Para el Amor #145 Wed 10/31/12 “You must remember this, a KISS is still a KISS, a sigh is just a sigh, the fundamental things apply, as time goes by….”

This is a very long narrative, so the Lo de Ayer and the Avances have been left out.

Het Het – Luci and Rodrigo have left Paz’ happy gathering to go get something for Magda.  As they walk, Rodrigo waxes romantic about the memories that being here in the pueblo and on these streets mean to him.  Luci tries to avoid looking at him, but agrees that it was a magical story of love that unfortunately didn’t have a happy ending.  Rodrigo contradicts her  –This story isn’t finished yet; the next chapter hasn’t been written; we’ll write it ourselves, you and me.  There is an almost kiss.  Rod says, –Don’t resist it, accept it; you love me as much as I do you and we deserve to be together.  He leans in for a Kiss, and Luciana, against her normally better judgment, responds.  The Kiss becomes passionate.

(We leave our unhappy pair kissing in the middle of the street in faraway Het Het, to go to DF, briefly, we hope, where we have a couple sharing a meal.  One of the pair is not very happy and it shows, the other is very happy, but maybe it’s only for show.  It’s Jana and Bossy Bore-us The Bull-y [gracias in part to Decie].)

Jana’s Surprise Lunch – Boris is quite animated.  He’s brought out *the* engagement ring and has asked her to marry him.  He takes Jana’s hand to put it on.  She looks as though she just lost her appetite and might even lose her lunch, but Boris the Bull charges ahead.  Jana doesn’t know how to resist.  She frowns as he compels her to fix their wedding date.  Finally, she reacts.  Slow down, boy  –I don’t know what I want yet; there are so many things I want to see and do; work at the corporate offices, or something else.  –Ok, I won’t pressure you, but don’t delay setting the date!  He grins at her.  He wants to be married asap (cuanto antes).  Jana’s talk with Padre must still be ringing in her ears; the prospect of being Mrs. Boris for the rest of her life gives her pause.  Perhaps it was that her mother’s 5-year old threat of what she would do to Lorenzo if he came near her is still in play.  Boris keeps up the no-pressure pressure by telling Jana how anxious his parents are to formally request her hand.  Boris’ grin begins to fade as he becomes aware that Jana’s reaction is not one of a happy bride-to-be.  (Good thing he didn’t try this on the giant public screen at the last soccer match between Mexico and El Salvador.)  But, maybe he should have expected this, after all Jana has been cool and distant with him, but he’s hopeful that going along with his future suegra’s wishful thinking, or wishful hoping, or wishful prompting will engender a trip to the altar.

(We wonder, don’t we, what kind of matrimonial pair this will be—does Boris really love Jana as a person or will she be a trophy wife?  We do know that he’s the jealous type, very jealous and that could be dangerous.  Now we return to our momentarily interrupted Het Het Kiss.)

Het Het – The Kiss had both partners fully engaged.  Finally, Luci breaks away,  –This isn’t right; I can’t be alone with you. I always fall [into it] (siempre caigo).  Rodrigo wants to know what is wrong with this Kiss, with being together, if they love each other.  Luci has to explain (simpleton)  –You are married–to Gala–and even if you don’t love her, she’s the mother of your child, your wife.  I don’t want to be La Otra (the other woman).  Rodrigo protests  –You are not La Otra, you are La Unica (the only one).  She disengages from his hold and leaves, hurrying down the cobblestone street with Rod following sadly behind, his fantasy world disappearing with her.

(We are surprised to be taken back to the DF where a pair united only by blood are together.  She-who-has-everything-under-control is desperately begging for help from her sister, whom she normally treats in a most contemptible manner.)

TL Mansion – Roselena is afraid history is going to repeat itself (QTH?).  Conny doesn’t know what she’s talking about (and neither do we).   –After all these years of psychiatric help you should have found a little more peace.  RE can’t find any peace,  –I’m looking for some emotional balance in my house and in my children’s lives.  –If you are talking about Rodrigo, ain’t gonna happen sis, as long as he’s married to Gala.  RE says it’s not about them.  They cannot separate; they have to stay together because they have a daughter that unites them.  She’s talking about Jana,  –I’m sure she’s still pining away for that Muerto de Hambre de Lorenzo.  I caught her on the phone yesterday and she hung up and looked guilty as hell.  I’m sure she was talking to...  In comes poor innocent Mati with coffee, interrupting RE’s one track mind.  Suddenly and inexplicably, Mati is grabbed by RE.  She rages, accusing Mati of being deceitful,   –Matilde was with Jana when she took that mysterious phone call and handed the phone to her.  Conny comes to Mati’s defense,   –Was the call from Lor, Mati?  Mati answers, semi-truthfully,  –I didn’t ask his name; Jana’s been getting so many calls from friends since she got back.  I’ve never talked to Lorenzo enough to recognize his voice.  With that and a con permiso, Mati flees the sisters.  Conny thinks the story that is being repeated is RE’s delusions of persecution, thinking everything that happens on earth is a conspiracy to hurt her.

(We are relieved that Roselena is left with absolutely nothing more to say, for we are being transported back to peaceful San Francisco de Alto, a much sweeter, happier and safer environment than the TL Mansion.  However, that peace has been disturbed.)

Het Het  – After that Kiss, Luci is all shook up.  She doesn’t trust herself enough around Rodrigo not to show her feelings.  She’s in a hurry to leave and begs Claudio to start home now, before it gets dark.  Paz wanted her to stay longer.  She promises to come back for a longer stay after her studies are finished.  Pato will make sure she does and when she returns she’ll have a university degree as Deseñadora en Textil.  Paz then commits a little boo-boo by asking Rod how his daughter is.  Luci’s face falls.  Rod says she’s very well, and thanks her for asking.  That done, Paz gets the boxes she and Magda have for Lor, Vio and Estelita.  Luci’s goodbye includes an invitation to Ariche to come and stay with her for a week during his vacation.

(Oh dear, we aren’t going back to Luci’s apartment just yet.  We’re forced to check back in with the pair of sisters with opposing views on love and marriage.)

TL Mansion – What RE wanted Conny’s help for was to get Jana married to Boris asap  –Only then will I feel better.  Conny is probably wondering what Mati put in her coffee,  —Boris hasn’t even asked for her hand in marriage.  RE says that is the least of her worries (es lo de menos).  She’ll handle that end of it for Boris.  Conny is convinced RE is just going to repeat the mistake she made with Rodrigo and Gala.  Has she even talked to Jana to ask if she loves him enough to marry him?  RE is convinced Boris is the most suitable (conveniente) mate for her.  Punto.  Conny is not talking about suitability, she’s talking about the love Jana feels for Boris.  What they have is habit (costumbre), not love.  Love? –What does it matter if she’s in love, spits Roselena.  I got married totally and deeply in love and for what?  For my husband to be unfaithful.  And you?  All that love between you and your husband and you got DeeVorced.  Where is LOVE—it’s exactly the same whether you are in love or not.  Punto.  Conny warns that may be what she thinks, but if there IS love between Jana and Lorenzo, nothing she can do will prevent them from being together.  She reminds RE that if she tries to separate them, lo más cerca que son los corazones, más cerca son las tentaciones (the closer the hearts, the greater the temptations).

Abismo de pasión #158 10/31/12: Ghosts of Murders past keep wrecking havoc for Carmina, but Gabino might be the one to benefit from her bad night... the Arango brothers have a nice night... Gael has a revealing morning, but Murphy's law just won't leave Elisa and Dam alone

Refrito:
At the rather chaotic wedding reception/celebration: Elisa confronts Carmina about the lies she told Augie about Elisa not being his and Carmina’s own baby not being his… Alfie urges Carmina to respond to Elisa’s statements. Carmina denies, denies, denies… Ramona says no lie, Mrs.. IIF a woman like you can be called a Mrs… Alfie goes to the punch line, tell everyone that you were my husband’s lover, not Stefie!! Carmina brings up the plane tix as proof, Alfie says I found out long ago those tickets Gabino gave me were fake!! Also, when Augie and I went back to the quinta that night, your bags were packed!! … Dam adds that he saw Rosie leave the blue house one night, quickly followed by her. Lucio adds in that the blue house was never Stefies, only Rosie’s and Carminas’. Carmina continues with her denial, denial. Ramona reminds her you can’t run from the truth or from destiny. Either you finish the story or I will do it for you…
Lo Nuevo:
Suddenly among the crowd, Carmina sees Loopy next to Elisa and Nina next to Damian and in front of Lucio urging her to ‘tell the truth’. Suddenly she turns another way and sees Augie alone staring at her and it seems to be enough… Carmina goes beserk yelling NOOO!!! Several times and runs out of the gates of the hacienda… only to have Loopy dressed with his priest attire standing by her again… just staring at her, no words… Now she is wabbling down the town center street sidewalk listening to Loopy’s words at their next to last meeting ‘divine justice does exist, Carmina’… and she is yelling to no one around her to leave her in peace… Again Nina shows up to spook her with her own final words ‘hypocrit, fake, you have no morals or decency!’ … Carmina yells she had nothing to do with her death and yells at her to shut up, keeps wabbling and running, suddenly Paolo comes in her direction and yells at her what he yelled at her before he raped her ‘I will teach you what I learned at the jail!!” … Carmina runs and ends up believing herself at the cenote… hearing Augie’s words ‘you are a good actress, but your performance is over… I now know the truth’… Carmina yells at him to shut up as she falls in the water… once in the water, she believes she is struggling again with Kenya… Carmina puts deer in the headlights eyes… suddenly she is outside her blue house and Ingrid is waiting for her outside the house to continue the spooking (so on point with tonight being Halloween)… Carmina desperate runs into the blue house only to face another ghost from crimes past… her own sister Stefie, who tells her ‘what hurts me the most, you were capable of building that lie and blame me, allowed Alfie to blame me, knowing that the guilty one was you… what kind of sister are you?’ … Carmina gets under the covers in her bed only to hear Rosie, another ghost from her crimes past… ‘I too would like for us to spend more time together, you know you have me going crazy (for you)…’ … Carmina cries saying Rosie’s name… falls on side of bed…
At another Arango house in town… Paloma is so ‘hot’ she is out of words (wow! At least Gael is giving us a break from her constant nagging by keeping her mouth busy)… Gael himself is telling Paloma not to say anything… (YES!!!) … and they get busy with their own hanky panky…‘ (seems someone wrote a song about ‘living the romance as a passion pit’ LOL…
At blue house Gabino arrives to a very scared shaken Carmina with her hair looking like someone dumped a bucket of water on her head … She tells him about the ghosts who won’t leave her in peace… and that Elisa married Damian Arango and she could not stop them…. Also that Alfie knows the plane tix he gave her are fake… He is in disbelief… Carmina tells him about everyone accusing her of all her crimes… Gabino wants to know that she did deny deny deny everything… She tells him Elisa warned her she would dig and dig the past until she found the whole truth… She can’t stand Elisa. Why didn’t I kill her? I could have drowned her in cenote like… (Gabino catches up with this ‘who did you drown at the cenote?’ and you can see his brain gears at work suddenly amongs the migrains) … Carmina keeps mumbling that Elisa’s happiness is her worse punishment/disgrace… That Elisa should not keep Damian… Gabino can’t get why it is so important for Carmina that Elisa marries Dam… Why can she be happy and I never could enjoy anything?? … Gabino swears to her that there is still a way to fix all that. That they just have to take out the problem from the root… between you and Dam you all have to forget her (Elisa) and I can help you (get rid of Elisa)… Carmina takes his word ‘are you saying you can finish her off for me?’ …Carmina is willing to give him anything in return… Gabino says… wait for it… wait for it… I want you to marry me ojitos. Deal?…  Yup. Deal. [Sealed with a sloppy kiss…]
At Arango hacienda Alfie, Lucio and Lolita are saying goodbye to Dam and Elisa and sending them off on their honeymoon… (funny how Alfie said she did not want the past to be an ‘anchor’ weight on the happy couple) Make her happy.. will miss you, son.. blah blah (for crying out loud, Get going already!!!) Elisa thanks Alfie for the party and tries to apologize for Carmina spoiling the party, Alfie says no need to apologize.
Whoa! The pickup that Dam and Elisa left on is followed by another pickup… not quite a late luxury model, it is Gabino!! … Dam wants Elisa and him to concentrate on themselves and forget the town and everything else for a while.. he has a surprise for her (the place they are heading to).
Ramona gets home… notices all the herbs and jugs missing, whispers curses for Gabino… Suddenly she gets a visitor … The black widow of LaErmita herself (wait, no, that would be Alfie)… more like the Orange female mix of Dr Lechter, JASON, Jack the ripper and Elmer Fudd… shaken, not stirred… Ramona doesn’t think they have anything to talk about… Carmina says of course we do… you were the only one that was completely certain of my guilt… but it was all a lie… Ramona says don’t even go there, don’t bother trying to fake it. You are right, I am certain of Stefie’s innocence… Carmina says Augie once told me you were there at the road the night of the accident… Yes, I was there. And I got to hear Stefie’s last words before she died… a phrase I thought was ambiguous back then and took me years to decipher, but I have it very clear now… she locked you in your room to prevent you from going with Rosie, then she caught him at the road to tell him you were not going with him, that is why they were coming toward town when the car crashed… Carmina figures out it was Ramona who had told Augie… Ramona says yeah, it was me who told him, and he could not handle the truth. Augie could not take the pain of knowing he had hated for so many years a woman who had loved him so completely… Carmina keeps blaming Ramona for her fate and warns she will prevent Ramona from fillng any more lies into anyone else… Ramona says I am ready to leave this world, but you, don’t you fear what will happen to your soul?...Carmina says I never believed in that… Ramona says living with hatred, bitterness, and cruelty is the true hell… for people without soul like you, living is a much worse punishment than death itself. (with this Carmina quietly leaves …)
And the secret honeymoon place the groom has chosen … the beach where he kidnapped her to a while back. … this time she is more willing of course… Gabino has followed them and is planning the next move.
But before they can get to hanky-panky, Elisa wants to clear up what happened at the cenote… Dam gets the wrong meaning and thinks she meant about her and Gael stopping at the cenote before the wedding, Elisa says that is not what I meant, I meant you and my aunt … she warned me about it… I never imagined in my worst nightmares that you would allow her… no I never let her… ah no? first at the stables at your hacienda, then at the cenote naked and caressing each other. I can’t erase that image from my head… ah! There it is! I now understand why you have been so miffed at me… he apologizes…  He tells Elisa the story of what happened at both the stables and at the cenote… SURPRISINGLY, Elisa believes him. He is thankful for that. Elisa feels like putting her own cards on the table too so she does clear up to him that she never was with Gael, that Dam is the first and only man in her life. She says she was very hurt and jealous of Flo and it was not until she read Flo’s letter that she understood, then she tried to explain with her kisses and caresses to him that he was her only man, he says that day he was sick and drugged, so he could not see through his jealousy of Gael. Elisa notes now you are not drugged or feverish… you are in luck, I do feel like explaining it to you all over again…  Then they get (FINALLY!!) to the hanky panky with ‘junto a ti’ as background… (Surprisingly, Univision showed more than I had expected of their wedding night scene)
Morning at beach… Elisa is at the edge of the water, Dam wakes up, gets a bit scared that he is alone, but quickly realizes she is at the beach, joins her… they get ‘going’ again….
At the other Arango lovebirds nest, things are not much different, Gael is very charming cuddly with Paloma… they share impressions of the best night since their wedding (since their wedding? I would say since forever, since the first two times it was a more one-sided affair).
Elisa nad Dam are touring the Yucatan landmarks, with the huge tourist/cruise ship docks under construction. (ok, Dam, cut the cheesy comments…  do your commercial script reciting and move on…)
Back at the beach, Gabino is buying a very tiny think venom snake (la coralillo)… he has a little picnic basket surprise for Dam/Elisa… the guy tells Gabino that you barely feel the bite… but it makes you lose your breath slowly and then the end comes… Gabino is very careful handling the picnic basket, even stretches his arm as far as he can from his body ...
meanwhile Elisa and Dam continue touring the area… (they are at ‘manglares’ which reminds me of a place in Puerto Rico just like that in the southwest town of Guayanilla) Oh, now Elisa joins ins the duet regional tourism promo pitch script…
Night of day after wedding, Paloma is cleaning up and, as her usual nosy self, she opens the folder that Loopy left Gael. Gael comes and asks her ‘what are you doing, ‘mi amor’?’ (is this first time Gael calls Paloma that way?) As he tells Paloma it is papers Loopy gave him before he died, Gael gets a nostalgic facial expression that is priceless… Paloma tells Gael that he should read the papers, it is the last will of his father … of Loopy? … no, of your father, Rosendo Arango. (Gael is confused/ surprised).
Tonia has again asked Braulio for help since Chente did not come home to sleep… She really is annoying with her whinning… Braulio suspects Chente is with Gabino who is staying at the hotel…
At the hotel, Chente is indeed in Gabinos’ room. Gabino arrives back from the road with his huge migraine which has returned… Chente wants to know where Gabino was since he was on road all day… Gabino  refuses to tell him, then tries the ‘recipe’ that Chente fixed for him, but Gabino can tell from the taste it is not the right recipe, ‘if you can’t do this then I have no use for you, I will go back with Carmina!’… Chente wants Gabino to take him with him. Gabino refuses, so Chente wants Gabino to give him one last shot at the recipe.
Gael goes to Lucio’s with the folder including the will from Rosie… Lucio is surprised that Gael has it. Loopy gave it to me before he died, he asked me not to open it (and there should be a reason for that, right Gael?) but Paloma opened it accidentally and told me that it was my father’s will. Lucio wants to know if Gael’s name is in it. Did he leave you anything?  Not exactly, but it does state that he leaves everything to all his ‘heirs’ in equal parts… so I guess I would get half of all the Arangos own. Lucio laughs happy, what do you want to do? … that is why I am here, to see if you know of a lawyer who can give me some guidance… Lucio is happy to provide him with contact info for a lawyer he knows… (wait, Gael, do you really plan to ‘claim’ your part of the Arango fortune? Didn’t you say a while back that none of that mattered to you?  Why don’t you rather ask yourself … what would Loopy do?)
Elisa and Dam make it back to the beach hut (Dam tells Elisa he bought the shack from the fisherman so they can come back there anytime they want…) … Elisa goes right to the basket wondering if Dam is hungry… The snake bites Elisa right away… Dam opens the basket and realizes it is a ‘coralillo’ (well, for having spent most of his education years in Europe and being here only a few months, Dam knows a lot about venom snakes, and that a coralillo is very dangerous…) Dam rushes Elisa to the truck to go get help since he knows that snake’s venom is very dangerous…
At Arango hacienda gate, Alfie is standing pacing very nervous (maybe having a feeling that something will happen)… Carmina comes to scare her saying Dam and Elisa are going to have the same fate Rosie and Stefie had, they will die…

Abismo de pasión #157 10/30/12: Why Everyone in La Ermita is Birdbrained; A Wedding, and a Long Awaited Denunciation

The makeshift stage is empty. At one end of the Patio of Lowered Expectations a backlit, tightly stretched white cotton sheet serves as a screen. There is muted conversation as Patio regulars wait for the great man to appear. From the right, he enters behind the screen, leading with his stomach. As he moves toward the center of the screen, the silhouette becomes an old, but well-remembered outline—The sloping forehead, prominent beak, receding chin and thick double chin. He pauses, holding the pose and waiting for our recognition. The denizens of the Patio giggle, murmur and then applaud. In a gait that could be placed somewhere between a waddle and a strut, the bird makes his way from behind the screen to the standing microphone placed in the center of the stage. The applause swells and fills the Patio. Cap'n Sylvia introduces our guest. “Hello! Tonight I have the 'privilege' of introducing the Director of ‘Abismo de Pasion’, perhaps the best known member of the bird clade Columbidae film directors, Alfredo Paloma-Hitchcock.”

Mexico’s most famous near-passarine artist clears his throat.

“GOOD EVENING.” He says in all caps.

“In tonight’s lecture we will explore the history and themes of ‘Abismo de Pasion’. Although this show was inspired by the work of my Great-Great Uncle, the human English Film Master Alfred Hitchcock, this work has been a collaborative and inter-species effort, one I could not have completed without the creativity and lateral thinking of our simian writers. Fluffy and the Chimps, who have a table of their own, clap and scream loudly for banana Daquiries.

Dry coughs are heard on the Patio. Doris says, “Hey, DaisynJay, this is going to be a long night. Pour me another tall one, will you?” The bird continues speaking, “ I invite all of you to join me in expressing your feedback on tonight’s episode using avian metaphors. Blue Lass grins and says—“Now this should be fun.” The bird drones on. “My uncle first took up the bird theme in his 1963 classic horror film, The Birds…” “Just roll the tape!” orders Cynderella.

Scene One - Blue House of Shame
Carmina and Elisa face one another down. After luring her niece to her lair with the promise of giving Elisa Stef’s long-lost wedding dress, Carmina begins to torture Elisa with words.

“No me parece..” she begins, “It seems incredible to me the love you feel for Damian. You should forgive him for what happened between us.”

“I hope you understand,” replies Elisa, “That there is nothing you could do to separate me from Damian. I am going to marry him today and only death could prevent it.”

Carmina mumbles, “Don’t worry, nothing is going to happen, I’m here. I’m putting this dress in your hands.” She gives Elisa the wedding dress.  “My sister would have liked you to marry Damian. I’m doing it for her, you know? I loved her a lot.” Elisa responds by accusing her aunt of hypocrisy.

Por ella soy Eva #75 10/30/12: Eva Has a Bad Day

A slow-moving episode. Argh! Pluto and Helena will have a party soon to celebrate being a couple! Eva, crushed: "How about the promise you made Antonia at the altar?" "My dearest Antonia is sadly dead, now I love this face and these eyes." Eva leaves in tears. Pluto and Helena kiss and kiss. Lucia rubs salt in the wound, rattling on, 'what a cute couple...' Jaime's song queries: "What will I do with my life now?"

Angelica calls Santi, it's hard doing nothing! He thinks she should study something, she thinks she should go spend money at clubs. A somewhat menacing tune suggests the guy at the front desk asking for Santi is a problem, and asi es: Santi is way behind in his payments on the super-expensive apartment Patty-baby made him sign for (and which he's never lived in), and he owes for the renovations too. Like, a million. He looks quite ill.

Lovesick Adri, playing golf in his office, calls Eva to hear her voice and then breaks a window. Meanwhile Pluto takes Helena home where she can hang out with Lalo while recuperating. She admits Pluto is her squeeze. Lalo's ok with that: "I just want you to be as happy as you were when Juan was alive."

Rebe can't find her cellphone and is annoyed to be taking orders from Mousse Boy, he's in charge of Playa Majagua while Helena's out sick. Eva staggers in wincing with gastritis and Rebe thinks again: that's just like Juan Carlos. She brings in a doctor to have a look at Eva! "Don't touch me!" screams Eva! "And no, I'm not loosening my belt, I don't do that. Take this doctor away! I prefer the teas, herbs, and natural remedies of my home town!"

Rebe leaves with pages 4-5 of the fraud report and reading it realizes: if Pluto had contact with Juan's mom, he too could have been involved.

I see by the way Adri puts his arm around Mimi in the elevator that she's making progress. She slips away, he bangs his head in frustration. Despite his natty mauve tie, he's not getting any from anybody!

When Marcela wants to take him to a nice restaurant, Fer says he has work to do (hahaha he types with one finger.) One of the girls comes in and irritates him further by gushing: "All the world knows how great she is, and just imagine, she used to be a receptionist."

The gossiping office babes next tease Lucia for having sex with Renato in the office.

Pluto and Adri tell Eva the business can't afford to rehire the fired women. Eva says she'll keep looking for a way: "For you two, those women of scarce resources are nothing, but not for me." After Eva leaves Pluto yells that Adri is too influenced by love! "Love is making me a better man," Adri counters.

Lucia, Helena and Silvia say nothing of importance.

Mousse Boy convinces Adri he can head up the important meeting tomorrow with construction representatives. He'd like Helena's job permanently, I'm sure.

Fer yells at Marcela when she comes back, he's pouting because it took her so long to bring his lunch. She tucks a napkin under his chin and feeds him. He's miserable to hear that next month she'll probably get another bonus.

Juan to Mimi: "Somebody used my name to put money in my mother's account. It was the day she was lost and I found her in the theater. I'll never forget it, because that same day I asked Helena to marry me."

Lame end to a lame episode, Lucia badgers Mousse Boy about the gossip. "Did you tell people something happened between us?" "I'm a gentleman, I'd never talk about you. Stop listening to gossip."

Tomorrow: Eugenia tells Rebeca that Juan Carlos is at Grupo Imperio!

Refugio Para el Amor #144 Tue 10/30/12 "Now Faith Is The Substance Of Things Hoped For, The Evidence Of Things Not Seen." Hebrews 11:1

Readers, you know by now I need a template or structure to manage writing about all the disparate characters and scenes in these episodes. And I've chosen faith tonight, because it has been a vital part of this story from the very beginning. Tonight as we look at our drama, we find out who has faith, who has not, and who is making those first tentative steps on the royal road. Hang on! Because it's a wild ride as usual.

ROSELENA: No Spiritual Faith. Only Fear. And the need for control that only Fear engenders.

A fear which drives her to commit the most unthinkable of crimes, allowing a newborn baby, blood of her blood, son of her son, to be thrown away in the trash on a cold rainy night.

Fear, rather than Faith, leads her to control the lives of her children with an iron hand.
She's decided that Jana will marry Boris, and now she's meeting with Padre Honesto to decide their wedding dates. Padre Honesto weakly protests that our “hijos son prestados” (our children are loaned to us) but Roselena is quite certain that she owns them. My children don't have the maturity to make their own decisions, she asserts. So it's my job to decide what they should do....until the Lord calls me home. Call me controlling if you must, but I'm a caring mother. Not like some mothers who lose their babies in the middle of the night in a storm! Oh dear, forgive me padre, I shouldn't have said. It was my grandchild, after all, she simpers.

Later, Roselena is equally controlling during a confrontation with Gala and don't-call-me-abuela-Julie. Gala is complaining that Rodrigo hasn't slept with her since the conception of Alexis, and if he doesn't start paying attention to her soon, she's going to unfaithful. She's not cut out for chastity after all! She's particularly incensed that Pato and Rodrigo are in San Francisco el Alto right now...with the domestica...

Roselena: If I find out you're cheating, I'll move cielo, mar y tierra for him to divorce you.
Gala: If you want to lose Alexis, do it! In this country patria potestad (custody) is given to mothers, not fathers.
Julie: Chicas!...we're playing on the same team, aren't we?
Roselena: Alabado sea el Señor ( Praise be to God), you [Gala] can liberate yourself from a life of lust and dedicate yourself to your child! She only knows her nanny and Brigida. She's a desconocida (unknown person) for you.

After this verbal tussle with Gala, Roselena is now ready to take on the hapless Jana. When Boris comes calling, Rose nags Jana....
Rose: Hurry up Jana. It's bad manners to keep your prometido (fiancé) waiting.
Jana: He's not my prometido, he's only my novio (boyfriend). Now that I've got my degree, I want to develop my career in the corporativo. Why do I have to marry right away?
Rose: You can marry and still have your career. He's the ideal match, he's of our class, his family has lots of money, he's got a bright future, and I'm not la tonta that you believe. Once that taquero finds out you're back from Europe, he'll try and get in touch with you. And who knows what temptation you could fall into.
Jana: Mom, don't start.
Rose: I haven't forgotten what I promised five years ago. If he approaches you, something VERY BAD will happen to him.

In short, Roselena has no faith in her supposedly beloved children to choose their life course or their spouse. Only she has the right and the alleged wisdom to decree what they will do and with whom. She is ready to steal, cheat and even kill, if necessary to ensure that her will be done on earth. At the very most, God is simply a Cosmic Vending Machine. She puts in her pesos and collects her desired product.
Roselena is one of the most blasphemous characters I'v ever seen in a telenovela. Truly blood-chilling.

Abismo de pasión #156 10/29/12: A Tale of Two Parties

RECAP BY CATHYX

Damian welcomes wife #1 and Carito to the engagement party that Alfonsina is hosting. Flo and Alf glare at each other. Alf grabs her arm and pulls her aside, wanting to know how she could show her face in Casa Arango after what sheʼs done. Flo says she wouldnʼt miss seeing Damian having control over his own life again, and Alf fires back that he is only  getting control because sheʼs letting him.

Alfonsina announces to the group that Damian and Elisa are to be married. Seated are Braulio, Lolita, Lucio, Doc Tovar, Enrique,Carito, and Florencia. Damian, cutting a very fine figure in his well fitted gray suit, and Elisa (who cares what sheʼs wearing) stand and he pulls out a new ring that doesnʼt yet have bad luck attached to it. He puts it on her finger saying that it represents the culmination of all his dreams heʼs had since he was a child. Just now, I see Paloma and Gael behind Damian. Did they just arrive? Not sure. As he talks about his life long love of Elisa, even the cold unfeeling botox queen gets choked up. Next to her, Paloma is doing the happy dance because her arch rival is finally going to be off the market and finally, finally, Gael will give up the notion of getting her back. (Not!)

Por ella soy Eva #74 10/29/12

Well, the novela production studio gets some more mileage out of their much-in-demand hospital set, as we get a lot of Helena scenes this episode. She's still trying to deal with the midnight visitation from Juan. She persists in telling her Mom that the appearance was real and smiles like a goon. Mom says it must have been a dream (an explanation that has rarely convinced anyone). Then the nurse arrives and Mom tells her "my daughter's messed up - she's seeing things that aren't real." It turns out hallucinations are a possible side effect of the anesthesia they gave her, but Helena isn't having any of it. Then the doctor (chubby guy in lab coat with white beard equals instant credibility) arrives and tells her the exact same thing the nurse did. He gives her some low-level psychotherapy for free - "maybe seeing visions of Juan means you haven't coped with his death yet."

Mimi continues to overextend herself to get Adriano's attention, but Eva arrives and puts an end to that. Adriano takes Eva to his office - he has a present for her. He just about blows an artery trying to get out a file from his cabinet - his own investigations on Juan's fraud!

This is certainly an interesting tactic to get Eva to love him. Adriano hands over the file and mentions that he's sure Santi and Fernie had nothing to do with the fraud - they were just dupes (well, they sure are dopes). He gives her the file and she swears silence. Then he asks her "well, don't I deserve a premiosito?" and he gets a cute fist bump. Eva exits, and Adriano pathetically sniffs the hand that just got the fist-bump.

Offering yet more proof of how very poorly-designed the GI office is, Eva slams into Rebeca at an intersection. They need one of those convex see-all-ways mirrors that they put at corners in the hospital. The secret file goes flying, Rebe gets a look, and she gets her evil-planning face. Oops.

Helena is still moping about her late-night revelation. Mom: if you keep this up, how will you remake your life? Do it for yourself and Lalito, learn to live without Juan just you like you advised me to learn to live without my awful husband.

Fernie is actively failing to assemble a new office chair and refuses to accept the instructions or his wife's help. He falls on his butt and everyone laughs, even him! It's nice to see them happy.

Rebe is "more sure every day" that Pluto was involved in the Juan Carlos fraud... She tells him "I forsee a cell in your future, dark and full of rats." You want a war, Pluto, you'll get one - a nuclear war!

Bad Grandpa busts into his former home to be a grump - Eva is playing with Lalito, and he lets her know that he won't allow her to get in "his" house to mess with with "his" grandson. Fortunately, Grandma grows a pair and informs him that it STILL isn't his house and he'd better go.

Juan and Mimi - Juan plans for tomorrow to be the day he drops the disguise. He sings a song of joy: no more boobies, no more heels, hooray! Tomorrow!

Plutarco bursts into the hospital room with a heap of roses. He says "I love you so much," and angles for a kiss but gets SHUT DOWN. He tries to look like he's content with the bone she throws him "don't think about the past - you are my present," but you can see the smoke coming out of his ears.

Marcela gets a fat bonus check. Fernie doesn't take it so well. Get a  grip!

I don't understand why Juan's dad gets to be so bossy. He's giving Juan's mom instructions. Aren't they divorced or something? But it looks like she wants to go ahead and make a theater comeback anyway. Good for her!

NOOO, Helena kisses Pluto and Eva appears. Helena says they're novios!

Amor Bravío #53 (Uni 48) Mon 10/29/12

Capitulo 53: Unholy Alliances

Note:  This is a quick-and-dirty version due to the risk of power loss during the storm and my being tired from Halloween partying.  Back to usual form next week.

Lo del Pasado

El Diablo asks Alonssso about the status of his divorce only to get the response that anyone could have Camila but him. El Diablo laughs at Komodo Jr's attitude and uselessness.

Lo de Neuvo

Luzma's Room: She prays to Jesus for guidance. Camila arrives to check up on her and Luzma tells her that she doesn't know how to feel at the moment; like this is all happening to someone else. Camila tells her the story of the accident on the night of her despedida de solteros with Luis and how she felt like she was in a dark room with no exit and thought she would never feel anything again. Luzma tells her that Piedad doesn't want her to not have the baby. Camila tells her that only she can make the decision and reminds her that tests can be done to determine whether anything is wrong with it. Camila asks whether Luzma can come to love the baby despite it all; Luzma isn't sure. Dorotea enters to tell Luzma that Pablo is there to see her. She doesn't want to face him, but Camila tells her she will support her decision about the baby, whatever it is.

Refugio Para el Amor #143 Mon 10/29/12 Five Years Later; Where Are They Now?

After the FIVE YEAR time jump caused a collective shock to Viewerville’s system last episode, this episode we are still settling in and catching up with our characters, and what they have been up to after so many of their worlds fell apart or changed dramatically almost exactly five years ago.

Five years ago, Luci gave birth to little Roddy, then “lost” him in a state of fear over a threatened kidnapping, and delirium caused by her out of control blood pressure and post-operation meds. This loss caused a ripple effect of grief through all of Luci’s and Rod’s family and friends, but no one felt this tragedy more acutely than Luci.

Five years later, Luci is a sophisticated young businesswoman and student, about to finish her last semester of business school, focused on textile design. She plans on creating her own brand (marca) of goods and will work with the women of San Francisco el Alto to produce the products she designs under her brand. She still works at TL Corporation, supports all the local orphanages providing them with food and supplies, runs her foundation to provide economic opportunities for women in the North, AND has continued the search for her son. She is truly Wonder Woman.

Amor Bravío #52 (Uni 47) Fri 10/26/12 Up From The Deep and Over the Heap; Luzma Knows With Tio Pervertido It Ain't Over Till The Fat Slob's Six Foot Under, But Dio Has Plans For Leo

Capítulo 52 -

[Warning! This particular episodio is not for viewing on a full stomach!!  Do so at your own risk!]

All is not well with Luzma and Company we see as we return to the clinic in Aculco.   We learn, courtesy of the doctor’s trumpeting the news to the entire room full of people, that not only is Luzma vindicated in her claims of rape, but she is now pregnant from that rape.  Viewerville again suffers the lurch and tumble of their stomachs right along with Luzma’s as she learns her fate.  (My mind races back to my H.S. Biology class discussions about recessive genes.  So, is Luzma or Leoncio the recessive one in this pool?)  That’s not the worst of it tho’ boyzngirlz!  She learns she’s got to be at least twelve (count ‘em) weeks along before a DNA test can be done to prove paternity!! Luzma finally faints after hearing Piedad object to what Lic. Becerra explains about aborting the child: that, as a rape victim, if she decides by three months’ time to abort the child she is legally “allowed” to do so.  (Ok.  So will there be a race for time to get the results back so she can have the abortion done before the trimester deadline is up?  Or, will she miraculously have a telenovela god induced miscarriage?)

Abismo de pasión #155 10/26/12: The Bastard with Dreams of Greatness

Casa de Castanon:  I’m still a bit woozy from having to be revived by the paramedics with smelling salts.  It seems both Elisa and I passed out from shock when Alfonsina said that she would not oppose a marriage between Dam and Elisa.  So, you can see why I became light-headed.

Elisa, like me, is confused.  Alfonsina has just complimented Elisa on her business skills (that’s when Elisa hit the floor), and said that Elisa wouldn’t make a bad co-owner in the company.  Elisa comments that the procesadora really must be desperate if Alfonsina is willing to take Elisa’s money.  Alfonsina insists Elisa is wrong and tells Elisa that she is able to save the procesadora without Elisa’s help.  Alfonsina says that she can’t continue fighting Damien on everything.  Alfonsina knows that Damien will give up all for Elisa including his inheritance and his last name.  He’d even cut ties with his own mother for Elisa.  That’s what she’s trying to avoid.  She’s willing to tolerate Elisa (the daughter of the woman who she believes killed her husband) as both a business partner and daughter-in-law.   I’m feeling a bit dizzy again.

Hacienda Arango:  While lounging on his bed, Damien removes his Elisa bait (aka amulet) and puts it in the top drawer of his night-stand.   Alfonsina enters the bedroom and tells Damien that she told Elisa that she will not stop a marriage between the two of them.  Oops, another one bites the dust.   Damien just passed out too. Luckily for you, I’m willing to take one for the team and give Damien mouth to mouth.….OK, he’s back.  OK…maybe not.  Please be patient, this might take a few more minutes of making out and feeling his chest…I mean mouth to mouth and chest compressions…to revive him.

Alfonsina tells Dam that she went to ask Elisa to marry him.  Translation:  his mommy asked Elisa to marry him.  Damien doesn’t believe her.  Alfonsina tells him that she will no longer interfere in his affairs.  He has the right to live his own life.  She admits that she screwed his life up.  Translation:  his mommy has weaned him from her breast milk. He can eat solid food now.

Por ella soy Eva #73 10/26/12: Helena Has Many Visitors But The Only One That Counts Is JC; Rebeca Gets The Intel From The USB

I am doing this recap from memory again, so if I leave anything out, please fill in, also this is not in any order.

JC is in the chapel praying for Helena. It is pretty funny cause it is like a conversation between JC and Dios. He asks Dios to look after Helena and to be sure she recovers. JC is still in the doctor's scrubs with the mask off his face as he has this little convo. In comes Silvia to pray for Helena and out goes JC putting the mask back on his face.

Eugenia is talking to the doctor in the rest home, I like that better than manicomio jus' sayin, and Eugenia I swear, says a couple of lines from Corazon Salvaje (Ed Note: the actress that plays Eugenia, Helena Rojo, was actually the evil Leonarda Montes de Oca in the Corazon Salvaje of 2009) and Eugenia also quotes part of the soliliquiy of Hamlet, in to be or not to be. The doctor is pleased she knows all this stuff from memory and no she doesn't have Alzheimers. The doc asks her why she insists her son is still alive when clearly he is dead. Eugenia says not dead, alive he is just away and is kind of pretending he is someone else, the doctor looks at her funny.
