La Tempestad Cap #33 Wed, 9/11/13 - Oh wee oh wee oh, I think I want to know ya, I want to take you to my cave, Girl I’d like to show ya*
*Apologies to Morris Day for paraphrasing and shuffling his “Jungle Love”
Last night we left our happy couple kissing passionately all over the beach, in the limpid sea, on a conveniently place blanket, and with that damned theme song crashing all around them. And yes, poor Dam DOES have sunburned shoulders.
Tonight our hero’s romantic inclinations become a bit more urgent, but Marina says she’s not quite ready for this yet. DamPatient laughs a little, says they’re not in a hurry and have all the time in the world. He asks if Marina is hungry. (Because he sure as heck is, so to speak.) Let’s eat!

PEAM #132- 9/11/13: He Has Risen! Oh Well....I Am Sure He Will!!!
Recap By Pablo
I wanna be an actor. In this episode Jesús spent the whole time laying down ''unconscious'' and still gets paid.
Due to the many problems that Verónica has brought into his life Jesús is now dead.
Well, almost. His pulse is very weak, his chronic gastric ulcer has caused him an internal hemorrage and he has lost 90% of his blood. To make matters worse, his blood type is AB negative, a very rare, very, very rare type... Oh, telenovela Gods, please make someone in Monterrey have his same type, please!! Jesús still has 50 episodes left, a daughter to take care of and a huge pile of overdue work at Orión!
Not everything is milk and honey.. Now that Fernando has married Xóchitl, according to Murphy's law, Discua is back, and she wants him!! She is under the Universe's microscope and she thinks she deserves him!

La Tempestad Cap #32. September 10th 2013. The return of the WET WHITE PANTS! Alternative Title: Too Much Happiness Can't Be Good In A TN That Isn't About To End!
Boy, what an episode! Ok, let's skip the rehash and get to the new stuff....
|
Mayuya looks like she is about to snap |
Mayuya, the venomous snake, can't keep her venom inside any longer. She marches on over to where Familia Reverte, Jose, and Hernan are sitting at and yells at Marina that she's a hypocrite! Marina, our lovely heroine, isn't about to take crap from a venomous snake like Mayuya. She gets up and and yells at Mayuya "What did you just call me?". Mayuya lunges at Marina (and is very subtly held back by a smitten and dare I say it a very foolish Lolo) and calls Marina a hypocrite again. Padre whose sermon was interrupted walks on over to where the all commotion is happening and tells Mayuya to show more respect for God's house. "But this whore (fulana) showed no respect for Esthercita's feelings. Let everyone in town know that this woman is to blame for Esthercita's death. She killed her. She killed Esthercita" yells Mayuya. Reactions all around!
DamFab is a just a few blocks away from church. He stops to thoughtbubble what a blessing it is to be alive although what happened to Esthercita hurts him. He then continues on his way to church.

Qué Bonito Amor #106 (Mex 144) Tuesday 9/10/13 One Feared Dead in Daring Escape Attempt from L.A. Prison
“In any situation, the villain is the person who knows the most but
cares the least.”
Quote from I was the Black Hat by Chuck Klosterman.
“In all telenovela situations, the villain is the person who
thinks he knows the most but only cares about himself….and usually has an
appropriate punishment meted out as justice for the victims at the very end.”
Quote made up by Anita, applying telenovela law, as we close in toward the end of
QBA with some villains still on the loose.
Good evening, amigos, Anita here, reporting live from outside the
El-Lay Prision Estatal. This could be a United States Penitentiary, a maximum
security facility. There are three in
California—Atwater, Lompoc and Victorville.
But, it could also be a Federal Correctional Institution, for low or
medium security prisoners. There are six in California—Dublin (for women),
Herlong, Lompoc, Mendota, Terminal Island and Victorville (for women). Or, it could even be a facility for holding
pre-trial offenders. They are the Metropolitan Correctional Center in San Diego
and the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. These are all operated by the Federal Bureau
of Prisons, a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Detention and Processing Centers run by ICE, a subdivision
of the Department of Homeland Security are vastly different. Currently, ICE detains immigrants in fifteen
detention centers nationwide (including privatized facilities), in state and
local jails, in juvenile detention centers, and in shelters. [Thank you

Your intrepid reporter for the El Lay Tiempos is here, early
Wednesday morning, on the grounds of the El Lay Prision Estatal waiting for a
spokesperson to emerge to give us details on this late-breaking news story of a
prison break by several extremely dangerous prisoners. We’ve heard rumors that
one is dead, maybe more, but at least one has been recaptured. Meanwhile we’ll fill you in with background
stories from the last couple of days of those involved.
If you want to go directly to the story of the break-out, it’s
on page A-15 (The Prison Break).
Although this takes place in El-Lay, it is a Dumb and
Dumber-free episode. We assume they are
on their honeymoon.

PEAM, Tuesday 9/10/13 (#131): Happy Birthday, Valentina!
Or, "Where's a Bucket When You Need One?"
They always say to accentuate the positive. If I do that with tonight's recap, it will be very, very short and Morónica will be the only character in it.
Here goes: Vero has Chucho arrested for visiting his daughter on her birthday, and then she keeps the necklace that Paty sent back to Rogelio and wears it in front of him and then makes him wear it and drives him crazy wondering how she got it.
That's it! Good night!

Corazon Indomable, #86, 9/10/13 Miguel can read a newspaper, Simona visits the isla just in time for her makeover and Doris likes to fake it
Hello, Patio People, it’s been a while since my last recap, so I feel a little
rusty. But, here goes...
Pretty in pink Maricruz is in her office, wondering about whether
Octavio knows that Doris tried to kill her or not. Oh well, here is a
nice little project for MC to take care of. She picks up the phone and dials
her adorable tormento, who is still
in the hospital.
Octavio is happy to hear her, but he hides his feelings quickly, using
his usual mask of mockery and condescension (this is a word, right?). They Señor/ Señora each other while MC tells
him that something muy grave
happened, and no, it definitely has nothing to do with their daughter (like
she’d ever share such an information with him) – it’s about his muchachita enamorada (Doris, in case
anyone wondered), who tried to assassinate her.
Tav: Are you joking, Señora?
MC: No, Señor, your muchachita histerica almost killed me
because she hates me. And she hates me because I’m marrying her dad.
Tav: If you’re marrying her dad, she has all the rights! (This is not a
joke, he actually said that!)

La Tempestad, September 9, 2013. Capitulo 31.
Robles is driving down the road and suddenly loses control
of his car. He hits a pole and is knocked unconscious.
Damian talks to Mercedes on the phone. She is happy to hear
that he is recuperating. Damian promises soon he will be fishing again.
Mercedes just wants him to get well. As soon as she finishes up her business
obligations, she will be down to see him. Damian says perhaps when you return,
I will give you some good news. Marina wants to know what good news he's going
to give Mercedes when she returns. Do you really want to know asks Damian
smiling that sexy smile. That you and I are going to get married. I know it may
be a little soon to talk about, but after everything that has happened; I just
want to spend the rest of my life with you. They kiss.
Beatriz can't believe that Hernan wants her to lie to her
daughter. He thinks this is the only way that they can separate Marina from
Damian. We can't allow them to be together. You're the only one that can break
them apart otherwise this will end in matrimony. Beatriz says she would be
upset if Marina ended up with someone that didn't deserve her. She is sentencing
herself to unhappiness. Beatriz decides to listen to Hernan and help break up
Marina and Damian.

PEAM #130-9/9/13: Daddy Jesus Ruins His Beloved Daughter's Birthday Party!
I am sure Cheryl is having a lot of fun in Italy, so we will have our fun too!
Welcome to my first
Monday recap subbing for Cheryl. Fasten your seatbelts, this will be a bumpy ride!
Recap By Pablo
How often do these people switch intros back and forth? I am getting dizzy!!
Interest has feet (el interés tiene pies)
Elías brings sweet bread to Chatita's house for breakfast but she has tamales of gallaga or guava or guayaba, I didn't understand, besides her selective amnesia, she has some kind of speech impairment. Later she said she has a lot of eggs, what in mexican slang means she is very courageous. The bigger the eggs, the bigger the courage!
Elías didn't actually want to have breakfast, but asks Chatita about Patricia and her feelings for him.
Chatita has found out Elías suffers the syndrome of ''Knight in shining armor'' rescuing damsels in distress.
Verónica is neurotic, Marisela is not happy with who she is, Marta is crazy, Patricia is a mess, do you really want to keep that pattern?

Qué Bonito Amor #105 (Mex 143) Monday 9/9/13 Love Among the Ruins
Lo
del Pasado
Santos thinks of Maria and the head shots, Maria and Susanito talk about his problem. Concho talks about Susanito [fortunately he doesn't know about this problem] and his forthcoming medical problem. Maria writes another letter. The guard talks to the warden. Mike goes
to see Santos in his cell and they argue (see Friday's entry). He's
losing his perspective in accusing Santos of caring only about Maria
and not about Justo and Wendy.
Lo de
Nuevo
Deserted
Street: Justo pulls up in his car to suspenseful music as
Giuliano lines up a shot with another hunting rifle.
Mexico
City, Street: Oscar takes a walk with Angelica. They're eating
ice cream as he talks and points out his Mariachera, the car, and
invites her for a ride. We see that she is wearing platform wedgies
[so the actress doesn't look too short next to Pablo Montero, who
still needs a shave].

TELEMUNDO Y MÁS - week of September 9
Here is your post, commenters. Sorry it's a little late.
SANTA viewers: I saw this on a Spanish news site today:
Se forma la tormenta tropical “Humberto”
La tormenta tropical “Humberto” se formó hoy cerca de las costas africanas de Cabo Verde y podría transformarse en huracán...
My translation: Tropical Storm "Humberto"Forms
Tropical Storm "Humberto" formed today near Cabo Verde on the African coast and could become a hurricane...

Corazon Indomable #85, 9/9/13: Lupita’s Mommy and Daddy Continue to Pimp Themselves; Let’s Hope She Doesn’t Follow in the Family Business
The Old: Tav tries to break up with Doris; she refuses to be
broken up with. Mari treats us to a Venganza Monologue (thanks Adriana) about
how Rancho Narvaez will be “MIO!”
The New: The next day (new outfit indicates this), Maria
Alejandra is enjoying a quiet moment, doing work in her office and surprisingly
NOT giving us a Venganza Monologue, when all of a sudden La Hija del Gobernador
bursts in, packing heat. Doris, dressed very fashionably and tastefully for
murder, in a grey and black chiffon dress, points her handgun at Mari,
steadying it with her left hand, and says, “You are NOT going to marry my
father, and you certainly aren’t going to end up with my boyfriend!”
All of this makes Ester, La Loca, look very sane as she
continues to dig for water with a garden trowel in Realengo. Her blind neighbor
girl, Lina, passes by and Ester lures her over with some bread. Lina especially
likes sweet bread and mentions that her dad brings her bread, sometimes. Ester
can’t contain her enchantment with the little girl and kisses her hand, which
both surprises and pleases Lina. She asks if Ester isn’t evil (as is being said
about her). Ester explains that she’s just a bit undone/frayed (deshilachada/o)
at the moment, which happens sometimes when something bad or sad has happened
in someone’s life. She offers to tell Lina a fairytale. We see the beginnings
of a beautiful friendship.
Back to the real Locas, on the Island…Mari tells Doris to
pull the trigger, “Do it!” Doris wonders if Mari doesn’t think she’s capable of
doing it. Mari does, but she’s not scared of her.
D: Your life is at risk if you keep provoking me.
M: What do you mean by that? That if I don’t provoke you, you’re not capable of
firing? Poor deluded girl (ilusa). I’m
going to marry your father when I damn well feel like it! And your boyfriend,
even if I stop being his wife, I have him so much in my hands that if I asked
him to, he wouldn’t marry you!
Mari lunges for Doris reaching for the gun, they struggle
over it, Doris’s arm is wrapped around Mari’s neck, but Mari manages to bite
Doris’s hand, making her drop the gun. Mari grabs the gun and points it at Doris.
D: You damn ferocious beast (fiera)!
M: Call me Savage! That’s what everyone calls me! Go ahead! Now, get the hell
out of here!
Doris refuses to leave, so Mari calls security to have her
dragged out.

Corazon Indomable #84: The Plight of Esther & Doris Makes Little Steps Towards Crazyville
Rehashed
We start with MA adamantly denying her interest in Octavio.
She tells him he is the father of her child so she should feel a little worried
but nothing more is going on. El Governor gives her a skeptical “who are you
kidding” look (as he should) and wonders if she is really sure of her feelings.
New
Octavio ponders that MA/MC does not care about him since she
has not been to the hospital to visit him (aww boo-hoo…not!). He then flips the
switch and gets angry saying he will speak to his lawyer so that he can see his
daughter. Eduardo and Aracely interrupt his solo conversation with a visit. Ed
tells him that leg of his must be bi-ionic (viewerville nods in agreement).
Aracely informs Octavio that Ed was part of a rescue team to look for him.
Oblivio asks him why (umm, he is your friend right?). Ed gets uncomfortable and
tells him not to ask so many questions. Oblivio was hoping that MC organized
the whole thing. Ed tells him that of course MC fretted over his disappearance
but Oblivio believes what he wants to believe.
Doris and Co. are in what appears to be a club/discoteca
(have they run out of money again because this looks like someone’s house with
seizure lights flashing in the background). Doris is thinking of staying for a while to
see the boyfriend in the day and then take advantage of the D.F nightlife. She
also wants to make sure he is divorced so she can have dibs and marry her
pilito!

La Tempestad 30, Friday September 6, 2013 Trot Out the Tropes
A Patio of Lowered Expectations Discussion
“Dear Friends” – EJ
taps on her glass to get the attention of the folks on the Patio, “We begin
tonight’s recap with a quote from Sylvia’s Thursday night recap:
‘Ernesto’s pretend son loves Bea’s adopted daughter
who doesn’t know she’s Merce’s real kid who loves the son of the man her real
mom loved, who is hated by the man who secretly loves her mom, and a shark
dines tonight’. (Wry appreciative laughter
on Patio.)
“Sylvia’s hilarious summation of La Tempestad episode
28 compels me to ruminate a bit on the use of the trope in storytelling. The Oxford
American Dictionary defines trope as:
“A significant or recurrent theme; a motif”. In common
parlance the word is often used to describe an idea or theme that is too
often recurrent, thus rendering many ‘tropes’ trite. Several
years ago, recapper Julia came up with a definitive list of trite tropes that
are used in telenovelas*. Julia identified dozens of such themes and created TN
Bingo, which we played online for quite a while.
Tonight’s exercise will be to follow the happenings
in La Nuestra Señora del Mar through the device of just a few telenovela tropes
as applied to our La Tempestad characters, rather than reporting sequentially,
as we frequently do.”
Telenovela
Trope number 1: Confused Identities
In Ernesto’s Palace of Shame, a group of female
slaves are paraded before His Evilness. He is particularly attracted to the
stunning and silent woman. Macario tells Ernesto that she has not spoken since
the storm and for this reason he has given her a special name, Hada, or ‘Fairy’.
Of course we know Hada as Estercita, saved from the boat explosion, la tormenta,
and the aftermath by the unkindness of strangers. They found her, saw she was
pretty and decided she would fetch a good price on the slave market. As Hada is introduced to Ernesto, he says,
“Very well, Hada. You will have a good time with me.” And, although a loud
chorus is heard from the Patio, encouraging Ester/Pester/Hada to run for her
life, the little Fairy does not hear us as she allows Ernesto to kiss her hand.

La Tempestad, Cap. 29, Thursday, Sept 5: Esthercita joins the family business.
Valdivia removes DamFab's oxygen mask and presses a pillow over his preternaturally beautiful face (Dam's, not Valdivia's). "Die, my captain!" Lara watches the show through the window, wishing he had brought some Jujubes.
Marina's two mommies stroll down the hospital hallway thinking they are on the way to becoming besties. They join Rebeca and hunky José in the waiting area and learn that Marina has stepped out for a moment with Hernán. Since that means Eusebia is alone with DamFab, Mercedes decides to check on her and see if she needs anything.
Lara spots Merce heading towards the ICU and he quickly taps on the glass to alert Valdivia who is still pressing on the Dam pillow. Lara runs away and Valdivia ducks under Dam's bed. Out in the hallway, Merce comes upon Eusebia sprawled on the floor, unconscious. There are no doves hovering. This could be serious.

Qué Bonito Amor #103 (Mex 141) Thursday 9/5/13 Que Preocupantes Desplomos
As he's being escorted back to his cell, another inmate playing Celia Cruz's "La Vida Es Un Carnaval" makes him recall better (?) times back at Ay Jalisco with Lalo and Pichi…pues, being Lalo and Pichi-esque.
With her fingers crossed behind her back, Elvira swears she had nothing to do with Maria losing her baby.
Mirna gets evicted.
Fernando gets slapped by Ana for kissing her…then he does it again and gets shoved…so he gives up and leaves before she can chuck a pillow at him.
Maria gives Elvira permission to come back to the bar until Concho recovers. But she still doesn't trust that immoral skank. She just wanted to see how far Elvira would go.
Santos got mail in prison from Maria, but he doesn't want to accept it. He borrows the guard's pen to write something on the envelope and tells him to send it back. He actually had a pencil in his pocket, which he now proposes to use to draw Maria's face.

CI Cap. 83, 9/5/13 The Suspense Is Unbearable. Will Octavio Survive?
Previously,
more or less
Octavio is stretched out in the
plowed corn field—umm, let’s make that the desolate reaches of the uninhabited island
where the plane crashed. He can’t feel his leg anymore and he’s sure this will
be his grave. (You won’t need a grave, guapo, ‘cuz the animals are going to eat
you.)
In that alternate reality known as
Isla Dorada, Karim, Ed, and MariAle are holding a strategy session. MA’s
mission statement—to be the first to find our fallen pilot. She loves him and
will pay any price to save him. (What happened
to Don Ale’s private plane? MA could
have used it, with Ed as pilot.) They’ll leave in the morning and hope for
luck.
Miguel and Lucia are entitled to chime
in on a brother’s fate, so they do. Is the search a part of MA’s revenge on
them or due to love for her estranged hubby?
New
action, more or less
Lucia calls the doc to confirm
MiniMigi’s surgery arrangements. He should be there by 8 am for tests before
the operation. (We could compare this to actual pre-surgery protocols, but we
won’t take the time since we have a search and rescue operation underway.)
