La Gata #48 - Wed 11/5 - La Injusticia
Esme reads Carlos the riot act for absconding with a minor. She gives up when confronted with his big, stupid heart and says she'll do what she can to help.
Days later….
Lorenza, faking concern, is yelling at the cops, but since, as far as they're concerned Virginia ran off with her boyfriend....*shrug*...the cop thinks they have bigger fish to fry. Lorenza seriously tells him if they just follow her orders, they'll find her daughter.
Carlos leaves Virginia in Ines' care while he goes out to sell chicle. The cops pull up while he's out, two cars of them, with sirens blazing and everything, to arrest him.
Leti's going to be out of the hospital soon and Pablo tries to talk to Esme about moving out of Rita's and letting him, you know, actually be a responsible parent and provide her and the babies with a home. He makes the mistake of invoking the Meatball and upsetting Esme. She tells him there's never going to be anything between them and then changes the subject to Virginia. Since he promises he won't do anything against the person she's with, she tells him where Virginia is.

And it's the first time we've ever seen Victor in anything but black. Victor tells Reina and Navier that Lopez was shot twice, the kill shot through the head suggesting a mafia hit. At first, he thought it was the work of The Organization, but now he's thinking it could well have been Estefi who gave the order.

La Malquerida, capitulo 52. 11/04/14. Esteban needs a cold one.
Skipping the old....
Esteban and Acacia go to the reception desk to ask for another room. Unfortunately, they are booked up, but offer to put in another bed. Esteban declines and calls Cris.
Hector finds out from Cris that Esetban and Acacia went alone on the trip to the city. Cris explains that she didn't want to miss the meeting with him. Her phone rings and it's Esteban telling Cris about the confusion with the room. Since he thought she was accompanying him, he only reserved one room and forgot to arrange two instead. Cris asks to speak with Acacia and asks her if it's okay if the hotel would put in another bed for Esteban. Acacia doesn't have a problem. She hands the phone over to Esteban and Cris says to just put in another bed since Acacia doesn't have a problem with it. (Hector's eyes almost pop out at hearing this). Esteban says he doesn’t' want to inconvenience Acacia and would just sleep in the car. Esteban needs to rush off to the meeting and will call her back later. Hector continues talking business then offers to make her a cup of coffee.
Esteban says he doesn't mind sleeping in the car. Acacia will not hear of it. They will be roommates tonight. Esteban is gracious for the offer but doesn't want to inconvenience her. Acacia would feel bad if he had to sleep in the car. She says it would only bother her if he snore loudly. They have a good laugh and he says how he likes to see her laugh again. Acacia says she sometimes feels empty and that the pain will not go away. But you are making it more bearable.

Mi corazon es tuyo #77 4 Nov 2014... hankie-worthy ep... Our favorite sleepwalker is on the loose again... the 1001 nicknames for Isa... and Fernando opens up his heart to Alicia, to the delight of Ana and the rest of the family.
sorry the recap is long, but there were several very moving scenes i felt I needed to capture word by word.

No refritos… instead we got update on election results in local Uni station.
Lo Nuevo:
We pick up right where we left off Monday. (Fernando asks Ana whether Fanny and Leon went far since she slipped ‘they were careful…’)… Ana immediately changes the subject and they argue about the changes she is making to the recipe of the tea she is fixing him a 2nd dose of… he does not like lemon on it. He just wants an answer to his question. Ana claims she is not in liberty to give details of other people’s lives. Fernando gets a bit more irritated and grunts at her ‘Fanny trusts YOU, she surely told you something’. Ana rebutes yeah she trusts me because I don’t spill the beans!! (no abro la boca!!) Ana claims Fanny is her friend. Fernando pulls his card ‘and you are my employee!, and she is MY daughter’. Besides, let me tell you ‘el que calla otorga.’ (meaning if she won’t tell him it must mean it did happen). You just responded. She gives a bit disrespectful body language. Again she takes offense at his calling her ‘empleada’. (these two rather than lovebirds, look more like close age siblings). He rebutes that Ana is not fulfilling her job (as a nanny to a 19 year old?? GMAB!! He sounds like a 19 yr old himself, projecting blame away from himself!) Ana suggests he talk to Fanny directly himself. Then she asks ‘you don't mind if i get tea for myself too, right?? And what will we do if you get another episode of somnambulism?’ She ended up putting the lemon on it anyway so he stands up and dumps it in the sink repeating he does not want lemon on it. She claims the recipe includes lemon! She claims the work area of the kitchen is her SPACE. She then wants to talk about meeting halfway. He thinks this is about Fanny going out… she corrects 'nope, it is about your somnambulism issue.' What about we try placing some hurdles (objects) in his way between his room and hers. As they get to argue about that, Nando comes in and they cut the talk right there. He smells the tea. Ana explains about it. Nando asks if it works. Nando tells them he went to see Ximena. He asks if he can talk to both of them about it. Of course.
Laura and Reeky at his place… he offers to escort her out. She says 'no need, you are not my dad'. She had a great time. Will call you when I get home. She is very flirty with him…
Diego is looking in the phone book for the Valdez-Resendez. Wonders if the guy is still alive.
Fernando and Ana explain to Nando what is their concern. Nando agrees with them now. He is tired of the situation. He got mad at Ximena and left her at the place they were at. She is very fragile/unstable. He is afraid of losing her… of losing her forever.
Leon in his house texts Fanny that he 'got home. Good nite. Love ya'. He seems cold. He notices Mau is feverish. Leon checks Mau's belly area skin, there are pink spots all over (could be measles or chickenpox).

Let's get started!
The Hospital:
Pablo and Esme are keeping watch over Leti, it looks like the doctor does not have high hopes for the baby making a full recovery but Esme tells Pablo that the doctor is a man of science, and does not understand miracles, as soon as she says this baby Leti starts to move and both her parents see this as a sign that she will make a full recovery. Esme and Pablo bond, but it is short lived because once Pablo announces that he has to go to work Esme pouts and whines about how he is not a real father, girl, a man has to pay bills and eat!
Ugh, this episode annoyed the living daylights out of me and here's why: El Italiano. I.can't.stand.him. #killmenow. Seriously. The fatty (that's what I'm going to call him) and Pablo have this stupid arrangement where Pablo gives chubs money to pay the hospital expenses and Chubby takes the credit for doing a good deed. Pablo is stupid. He is allowing a man that he knows has the hots for Esmeralda to take credit for something he has not done and build good will with Kitty. Ugh. Chubby has a conversation with Lupe where he explains his plan: take credit for helping Miss Kitty, and then pounce! He says no one will ever know the truth, however, Pablo has told Maria what's going on and I'm betting she's gonna spill the frijoles. I hope she does.

Sofia tells Pato that she's decided to let Salvador go. Pato is glad that Sofia has finally realized that Cruz is dangerous. Sofia disagrees, "He's an excellent employee. But he won't achieve his dreams by working here." Sofia gave Salvador his severance check but he refused to take it. Pato calls Chava an idiot and offers to throw him out. Sofia scolds him, "Don't be rude. Let Silvana handle it. You need to stay out of it."
Nandito hugs Ramon and Ramon kisses his cheek. They fist bump, then Nandito runs to Armie. Irma says, "Adios Ramon." He thanks Irma for letting him see his son and asks for her forgiveness. She walks away from him. Armie approaches Ramon and asks Marina to give them some privacy.

Silvana tells Sofia that her doctor has prescribed vitamins and told her to minimize her stress. Sofia hands Silvana a folder and an envelope and explains that Silvana must convince Chava to leave the company. Silvana wants to know what happened, "Did you... go all the way?" Sofia confesses that she and Chava kissed. "I'm engaged. It shouldn't have happened and I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Make sure Salvador signs whatever documents he needs to sign. And make sure Patricio doesn't get involved." Silvana assures Sofia that she will take care of everything.

Skipping the old....
Esteban asks Rubio what he did to Ulises.
Ulises is curdled up in a fetal position in an empty room. His kidnapper throws him a water bottle and turns to leave. Ulises tries to rush the kidnapper but he quickly turns and points the gun at Ulises. Ulises demands to talk to Nuria but the kidnapper ignores him and leaves.
Rubio gets b!tchslapped when he tells Esteban that he sent Ulises over the border with some undocumented workers. Esteban says he never asked Rubio to hurt Ulises. Not directly but you implied it replies Rubio. Esteban calls him an idiot and punches him in the face. He demands to know where Ulises is and starts kicking Rubio to get some answers. Rubio finally answers that he doesn't know and Esteban points out that he has caused a big mess. Rubio asks for forgiveness and Esteban walks away angrily only to pick up a machete. Rubio tries to crawl away asking Esteban not to hurt him. He kisses his boots and begs for his life.
Cris understands that Juliana had to file a police report since it was important to her to have Manuel set up his business. Juliana lies and says how awful she feels having to do this and it affecting Acacia so badly. Cris acknowledges that Acacia feels hurt and lied to. I regret ever trusting that boy. Juliana says because of all this, Manuel doesn't want to go to San Jaciento to take his therapies. He was to be close by Acacia to comfort her. Cris appreciates it but hopes Manuel doesn't get his hopes up again. Juliana assures Cris that Manuel would never take the opportunity while Acacia is down to try to get closer to her. She may not want to fall in love for a while. Cris hopes she gets better soon. Juliana goes on about making Ulises pay and suddenly Carmen walks in and says her son is innocent. Carmen understands that Cris may be upset but asks that she listen to her, mother to mother.
Esteban is riding his horse like a crazy man.

La Malquerida, capitulo 50. 10/31/14
A drunk Rubio comes into the kitchen helps himself to some fresh squeezed orange juice right from the pitcher. Luisa gets onto him and calls him a drunk. I wouldn't be drunk if you would respond to me replies Rubio. This of course disgusts Luisa and she reminds him this will never happen. Especially after Manuel and I....but stops short of telling Rubio that she and Manuel did the horizontal mambo. Rubio knows she wanted to say something else and tries to get her to spill the frijoles. Luisa just says that she loves Manuel and knows he feels the same. Rubio warns her that the day she suffers because of him....he looks to his machete and Luisa understands the threat he has made.
Esteban tells Cris he knows he needs to keep quiet about his feelings regarding Ulises around Acacia. But in front of her, he can say exactly what he feels. It's best that he's gone for good. Perhaps Acacia will want to come with us Thursday when we leave town. It will help distract her. Cris says she can't make it. She has plans with Hector.
Juan Carlos, Elenita and Acacia are sitting around the table discussing Ulises. Juan Carlos thinks Ulises is a criminal but Acacia says she promised to trust Ulises and that is what she is doing. She believes Nuria is behind all this and will find the proof to exonerate Ulises. Juan Carlos tells her to forget about Ulises, but Acacia refuses. You were the one that I thought would support me and it hurts the most that you don't. See leaves the room.

Hasta El Fin Del Mundo #55 10/31/14 Sofia Decides Her Fate
This will just be a quick recap of highlights.
Old:
Sofia and Fausto talk about the kiss.
Chava is deliriously happy that he has a chance with Sofia. He says, "I won't rest until she says 'yes'!"
New:
Sofia insists she cannot possibly be in love with Chava. Fausto tells Sofia to think things over in her dreams. He cautions her that if she lets this chance go, "You might never find true love again."
At home Chava sings a love song loudly. He wakes up Matias, then sings some more to a teddy bear.
Sofia has dreams, but all she hears are the voices of her mother and sisters, "You're my role model." "You're the one who has everything together." "You are the pillar of this family. We all depend on you." She tosses and turns.
Dani tells Alexa that she knows it's over with Lucas. (Finally!) Dani sobs that she still has to see him at work. How will she ever be able to deal with it?

Mi Corazon Es Tuyo #75 The Effects of Herbs, Sugar, and Prescription Pills
We start where we left off, with Nando ignoring his 5th phone call from Ximena. Meanwhile, Ximena thinks the best thing to do is to end her life, finds some pills in a drawer, and contemplates taking them.
Lascuráin Mansion
Fanny walks in on Ana and Fernando sleeping together and her shrieks wake up Ana. Ana tries to explain that nothing happened, she left the door open, the light is on, and they’re still in their pajamas. But Ana can’t figure out why Fer is acting so strange.
Finally it dawns on her that it must be the tea she made for him. She lists the ingredients, but she’s not sure which one he would have a reaction from. Fanny teases her in a cute, sweet and loving way, she’s happy to see them together, even if it’s because her father is in a delirious state. Ana wants to come sleep in Fanny’s room with her, but Fanny says no way, and leaves. Ana crawls back into bed, Fer rolls over and spoons her, Ana objects at first, but then realizes how nice it feels and settles in for the night.

La Gata #45 Friday, October 31 – Pobrecita Bambina!
Pablo and Mariano return home after the dousing with water from Rita. Mariano is intent on finding out where Leti is. Pablo tells him that’s his responsibility and pointedly asks Mariano if Esme is the woman he is in love with. Mariano’s evasive answer is that Esme deserves more than a simple yes or no. Pablo gets phone call, says we will talk later. It’s Maria telling Pablo she will find out what hospital Leti is in.
Fern and Esme in the hospital where Leti is. He tells her he has to take Fela to the Psychiatrist and he will return after her appointment. He reassures her he will not abandon her and asks that she please keep him apprised of little Leti’s condition. She says she will and thanks him. Fer leaves after a gentle Fatherly kiss on her forehead and a blessing to them both. Almost immediately El Italiano enters. He has money, he says, he will find a specialist. Gata is grateful and says she will pay him back. El Italiano tells Esme he has seen Pablo. It doesn’t matter she answers. El Italiano goes on to relay Pablo’s message to Esme and even argues his case, that Pablo is the Father after all and has a right to see his child. How dare he Esme asks, after what he’s done? El Italiano says Pablo made a mistake, he didn’t purposely try to hurt Leti. I know you’re saying these things because you’re hurt and frightened but that does not erase the fact that he is the Father of this baby. She relents but says she will not be there when he comes. She doesn’t ever want to see Pablo again!
And now we catch up with Ines in her hot red dress. She’s in a café sipping a drink and exchanging winks with a potential involuntary sugar daddy dressed in a snazzy white suit. Garabato monitors and coaches in the background.
We now find Pablo at the counter in El Italiano’s pizza place. El Italiano tells Pablo La Gata says he does have the right to see the bambina for which Pablo heartily thanks him. El Italiano wants to go with Pablo to the hospital instead of giving him the name and address. Please, Pablo says with some indignation, I want to talk to Esmeralda alone. Well, she said you can see the baby but she will not be there when you arrive: She wants you out of her life, get it?! Well, somebody wants Pablo in her life if it’s not Esme. Gisela has been blowing up his phone and she has a high passivity index because he doesn’t answer!
Back at the hospital Gata talks tenderly to baby Leti, telling her she is praying for her when Rita comes in. Rita tells her it was wrong to come back to the dump: the babies were used to a different life. I was tired of being told what to do. I love Pablo and I will always love him but everything is over. Rita seizes this opportunity to start singing the praises of El Italiano, oh he loves the babies and has done so much for them! Yes, I am grateful Esme somberly responds. And this gratitude can become love Rita croons! No, Esme sadly counters, nothing takes the place of love and without love, life is empty.
Ines chats up the old man. When he goes to the bathroom she puts a drug in his drink as Garabato looks on in approval. The old man is back. Ines suggests they go to his room. Garabato watches. The old man begins to feel a little dizzy as he makes his moves on the cringing Ines. Another little guzzle ought to help this. He drinks, squints and blinks trying to unblur Ines. He grabs for her and falls to the floor, out cold. She slaps him, trying to make sure he’s out. Are you ok? She slaps him over and over with increasing glee. Garabato comes in and they rob his room and person: Money, jewelry, everything, stuffing it in a dufflebgag. They even take his shoes. Garabato delays their escape to slobber his thanks all over Ines after covering the old man’s face with his hat.
Pablo and El Italiano arrive at the hospital. Esme runs to hide in the bathroom. Rita and El Italiano remain in the room and Rita spins a web of lies about how Esme has just gone on and on about his kindness and her gratitude for what he’s done for the babies.
In a split screen we see the anguised Pablo talking lovingly to little Lettie: He asks for her forgiveness . Pablo explains with more patience and courtesy than is warranted that they had no refuge from the rain and that he tried to protect her best he could. Behind the bathroom door Esme begins to consider that Pablo’s actions were not intentional and she begins to acknowledge his pain. As he leaves Pablo asks Rita to tell Esme he will return tomorrow. Tomorrow? This baby may not make it through the night. She’s dying and it’s your fault! She’s not going to live, she HAS to live declares Pablo! He turns back to the baby and blesses her.
Fer enters the hospital room and Rita spews her poison all over Fernando: Tell him what happened! He tried to kidnap the baby, got scared when it started to rain and tried to turn back. Is it true! Answer Fer demands! Esme bursts out of the john! No sir! It’s not true. It’s a terrible tragedy but it’s not his fault. My love, Pablo coos plaintively. Don’t say a word. Get out! Pablo leaves but reminds her he is Leti’s Father and he will return.
Ahhh. We have a little respite in a scene with Centavito and Maria back at the landfill. Pablito is in a little bed as Maria picks through some trash. Centavito is studying his braille and offers to show her how he can read. They express glee that the basurera grapevine and solidarity was able to get the intell which reunited Pablo with little Leti!
Back at the hospital El Italiano introduces himself to Fer, referring to her as “La Gata” which Fer icily and sternly corrects. Esme is no longer a defenseless wild cat. Fer warms slightly to hear of El Italiano’s helping Esme which she confirms she appreciates. They shake hands.
Lorenza sweeps into the de la Santa Cruz mansion announcing to Jarocha that she has come to see her adored, beloved grandchildren. Jarocha is not taken in by this sudden interest and she attacks with her best provocative posturing, finger snapping and flashing eyes all the while calling Lorenza out on this self-serving interest in the babies. Lorenza, berating Jaroha, calls her low class ignoramus whom she refuses to let ruffle her. They continue to trade insults as Meche comes in and begs Lorenza to please leave before something bad happens. Jarocha swings wildly at Lorenza as Meche ushers her out of the door, restraining Jorocha at the same time.
As Lorenza leaves Fela intercepts her angrily demanding to know why Lorenza stole her flowers. Lorenza lets loose with a string of the insults that are always on the tip of her tongue! You cursed, crazy old dirty woman, I don’t have time for this! Fela doesn’t slow her roll and shouts at her yes, you stole my flowers and the man in the wheelchair, Augstin Martinez Negrete stole my daughter. Lorenza fairly staggers away from Fela as if hit in the gut and hurries through the gate.
Now we have Giselle and Pablo in the gallery where his paintings were to be displayed. The walls are bare. Giselle sashays into Pablos’s personal space with an unsubtle appraising sweep of her eyes. Apparently “a collector” bought all your paintings.” Todos she puckers, in kissing distance.
Having returned home, Lorenza and Pablo argue about their plans to eliminate the de la Santa Cruz problem. Lorenza asks him about Fela’s accusation: She said you kidnapped her child. What was she trying to say? Augustin denies having any knowledge of what Fela was talking about but rolls away but looking worried.
Back at the hospital the Dr. tells Esme little Leti is dying. She didn’t respond to the treatments. I’m afraid she won’t make it through the night and they have to transfer her. Esme agrees tearfully, her dread palpable.
Back at the empty gallery Giselle chides Pablo about ignoring her calls. He apologizes and she tells him she met his mother. Since I’m going to be friends with your Mother I offer you my friendship. She gives him a long, languid kiss on the cheek. Pablo looks confused.
Back at the hospital with Esme, Fer, Rita and El Italiano. Esme has become dejected and almost stony in her fear and grief. Leti is dying, she must be transferred. Fer declines El Italiano’s offer to take charge of the expenses but Esme in turn declines his help but Fer gently insists.
Mariano arrives at Pablo’s apartment: “It’s a miracle, I have money for my baby’s treatment! They rush to the hospital where they find the still dirty and unkempt Rita. Pablo runs expectantly to the crib. It is empty. Where is my baby? She’s not here and she’ll never be here Rita answers. Cut to a consultation of the Dr. with Fer, Esme and El Italiano. The Dr. tells them the baby is dying. Esme faints! Esme’s heart rate is weak, they call for a stretcher and carry her away! Let’s go! Cries El Italiano! You stay here Fer sternly orders, this is a family matter and you are not family! I’m not family but you are? El Italiano asks the empty room.
Pablo continues begging Rita where his baby is obviously so traumatized by the grief and shock it hasn’t occurred to him to ask the hospital staff. You deserve this for what you did; I don’t care about your pain. I’m not going to tell you where she is and that’s it. She announces that she is leaving to take care of her “other nieto” pushing Pablo aside as she flounces out of the room with all the importance he has given her in this matter.
Esme is in a hospital bed. She wants to be with the baby. The Dr. and Fer try to get her to rest. In a sudden burst of the old La Gata spirit she snatches her hand from Fer, pulls out the IV and jumps out of bed. You don’t understand. You’re a Dr., babies die everyday, and it’s no big deal to you. Looking at Fer she says you’re a man who lost his daughter and didn’t put forth enough effort to find her. That child out there is mine and she needs me. Nobody understands a mother’s pain! She flings open the door and is met by a tearful Fela. I’m here to talk to you because I understand. I truly understand the pain of a mother who has lost a child.
Blanca and Esme have a heart to heart and encourages Esme to fight for Leti, not to do as she did, not fighting hard enough. Fela tells her Leti will survive and she will be all right and in her arms again. Fer joins them briefly with further words of comfort. La Gata has regained her life and fighting spirit! She’s got to give her daughter the will to live! She thanks Fer for brining Fela to the hospital.
The Dr. is walking with Esme and has informed her that Leti is in intensive care. The Next 24 hours will be decisive, he says. Esme pleads, let me be by her side. Somewhat apologetically the Dr. asks where the Father is. Esme, silent, looks sheepish. It’s important he be here. We have to be prepared for the worse.
Meanwhile Pablo is in his apartment working the phone trying to locate his daughter. Monica and Mariano are there as well. Gisele Arrives as if she owns the place and implies as much with her introduction: She is Pablo’s friend and Pablo is her client and what concerns him concerns her. Monica is open-mouthed impactada. Gisele asks Pablo who he’s looking for and whips out her cell and begins to punch digits. Monica possessively drapes an arm over Pablo suddenly interested in a more active role. I have a detective friend who can help Gisele announces. Mariano picks this particular time to make a crack about the enviable position Pablo is in having this beautiful sexy lady suddenly appear. For crying out loud enough already Pablo shouts! I’m going through the worse moment of my life with my babies and the woman I love! Why is it so hard to love you Esmeralda he pleads toward the ceiling. Gisele seems visibly stricken by this outburst and gives Monica a cold, hard glare as if to say, I’ll fight her AND you for him!
Finally we see Esmeralda is in blue scrub gown and cap at Leti’s bedside in intensive care whispering words of love and encouragement to the tiny Leti asleep in an incubator. She claims a future victory for little Leti by telling a story in which love has already saved little Leticia from the jaws of death!

Fern and Esme in the hospital where Leti is. He tells her he has to take Fela to the Psychiatrist and he will return after her appointment. He reassures her he will not abandon her and asks that she please keep him apprised of little Leti’s condition. She says she will and thanks him. Fer leaves after a gentle Fatherly kiss on her forehead and a blessing to them both. Almost immediately El Italiano enters. He has money, he says, he will find a specialist. Gata is grateful and says she will pay him back. El Italiano tells Esme he has seen Pablo. It doesn’t matter she answers. El Italiano goes on to relay Pablo’s message to Esme and even argues his case, that Pablo is the Father after all and has a right to see his child. How dare he Esme asks, after what he’s done? El Italiano says Pablo made a mistake, he didn’t purposely try to hurt Leti. I know you’re saying these things because you’re hurt and frightened but that does not erase the fact that he is the Father of this baby. She relents but says she will not be there when he comes. She doesn’t ever want to see Pablo again!
And now we catch up with Ines in her hot red dress. She’s in a café sipping a drink and exchanging winks with a potential involuntary sugar daddy dressed in a snazzy white suit. Garabato monitors and coaches in the background.
We now find Pablo at the counter in El Italiano’s pizza place. El Italiano tells Pablo La Gata says he does have the right to see the bambina for which Pablo heartily thanks him. El Italiano wants to go with Pablo to the hospital instead of giving him the name and address. Please, Pablo says with some indignation, I want to talk to Esmeralda alone. Well, she said you can see the baby but she will not be there when you arrive: She wants you out of her life, get it?! Well, somebody wants Pablo in her life if it’s not Esme. Gisela has been blowing up his phone and she has a high passivity index because he doesn’t answer!
Back at the hospital Gata talks tenderly to baby Leti, telling her she is praying for her when Rita comes in. Rita tells her it was wrong to come back to the dump: the babies were used to a different life. I was tired of being told what to do. I love Pablo and I will always love him but everything is over. Rita seizes this opportunity to start singing the praises of El Italiano, oh he loves the babies and has done so much for them! Yes, I am grateful Esme somberly responds. And this gratitude can become love Rita croons! No, Esme sadly counters, nothing takes the place of love and without love, life is empty.
Ines chats up the old man. When he goes to the bathroom she puts a drug in his drink as Garabato looks on in approval. The old man is back. Ines suggests they go to his room. Garabato watches. The old man begins to feel a little dizzy as he makes his moves on the cringing Ines. Another little guzzle ought to help this. He drinks, squints and blinks trying to unblur Ines. He grabs for her and falls to the floor, out cold. She slaps him, trying to make sure he’s out. Are you ok? She slaps him over and over with increasing glee. Garabato comes in and they rob his room and person: Money, jewelry, everything, stuffing it in a dufflebgag. They even take his shoes. Garabato delays their escape to slobber his thanks all over Ines after covering the old man’s face with his hat.
Pablo and El Italiano arrive at the hospital. Esme runs to hide in the bathroom. Rita and El Italiano remain in the room and Rita spins a web of lies about how Esme has just gone on and on about his kindness and her gratitude for what he’s done for the babies.
