Qué Pobres Tan Ricos (How rich poor people are) synopsis!

Sorry to be so late, folks. This looks like fun. Even though it's late, I'm considering taking a day. We have space for others. See sidebar.

The Rich Learn a Lesson

A story of love, romance, and amusing situations; families that have nothing in common but are now obliged to live in the same house: on one side, Los Ruizpalacios, millionaires of great social background and on the other Los Menchaca, a classic family of the barrio.

It begins when grandmother Mati Ruizpalacios can no longer run the family business. Her favorite grandson Miguel Ángel - who has been living in London for 11 years - must return to Mexico because his grandfather Don Aureliano's will states: "The company will go to the first of my grandsons who gets formally married and has a son."

Miguel's cousin Alejo is an ambitious enemy who involves Miguel in a dirty fraud and causes him and his family to lose their fortune and all their property except one piece of land in the La Nopalera neighborhood on which, surprisingly, the Menchaca family is now living.

Don Chuy Menchaca is a retired fighter called "The Son of Sumatra" who, many years ago, knew Don Aureliano Ruizpalacios, to whom he has been paying off the property mortgage little by little.

After the death of the rich empresario, the debt was never settled because Don Chuy doesn't have the deed for the property where he has not only his house but also a modest gymnasium that isn't earning much money these days and which he's thought about transforming into a home-style Mexican resturant with the help of his sons José Tizoc and Perla Ivette and his eldest daughter Lupita, who has a son Emiliano (adored by his grandfather).

Don Chuy is forced by circumstances to take in Miguel Angel and his impoverished family; they move to Italia Street in La Nopalera.

For his part, depressed and broke, Miguel Angel comes to live in, or rather endure, the colony La Nopalera. He's accompanied by his odd family: his mother Ana Sofia, an eccentric society woman who organizes charity events but at heart despises those who are not of "her class;" his brother Leonardo, a classic mirey(?) who has studied art in New York; and Frida, his little sister, apparently socially minded but attached to her life of luxury and comfort.

Clashes between the customs and habits of each family are inevitable, it's a funny, chaotic environment. Lupita and Miguel, who start off as the mediators for their families, will end up falling for each other and together confronting adversity to defend their love and overcome all obstacles.

Synopsis: English translation of the teaser for 'Lo Que La Vida Me Robó' and: we could use some more recappers for this one.

If you'd like to recap email me: caray@mappamundi.com - thanks - blog mom.

This story takes place in the picturesque town of Aguazul. Montserrat lives there: she's a pretty girl, of high social status, who wants to have a "rose colored" life. She is constantly manipulated by her mother, Graciela Giacinti, for whom only social appearances are important and who will under no circumstances lose social status, even though her husband Lauro Mendoza, a retired admiral, has lost everything.

Montserrat has been converted into the solution to all her parents' socio-economic problems: her mother has selected her the ideal spouse, Sebastián de Icaza, son of one of the most influential familes in Aguazul. Nevertheless, Montserrat is not interested in marrying for her family's convenience and in fact is in love with José Luis, who runs a marina. Her parents ignore this romance, and this oppresses their daughter.

José Luis feels his relationship with Montserrat is going nowhere and feels the family Mendoza will never accept him.

On the other hand, Alejandro, a laborer on a nearby farm with hopes of bettering his station in life, knows the truth: that his father is Don Benjamin Almonte, a cruel, powerful and wealthy man who revealed this secret on his deathbed. Alejandra didn't receive this news happily. At the very same time life will bring him to meet Montserrat, for whom he immediately falls!

[Skipping a lot which seems to be spoilers]

The destiny of these three people will coincide and among them will be love, friendship, passion, contempt and rancor due to secrets, betrayals and hate provoked by the ambition and avarice that surrounds them.

Cast of characters:

Daniela Castro is Graciela Giacinti de Mendoza
Bad guy. Hypocrite, she appears a devoted woman devoted to her Catholicism but is actually a dark creature full of ambition and greed. She loves to be surrounded by luxury and is proud to be part of an important family. But she has a secret! Long ago she was the lover of Benjamín Almonte. Now, for money she is capable of selling her own daughter to his bastard son and heir.

Angelique Boyer is Montserrat Mendoza

Good guy. Noble, capable of sacrificing herself for her family. Fragile and innocent, she's been in a convent. To her own surprise, little by little she falls truly in love with her husband, which will be a problem when she falls for José Luis. All her problems will strengthen her character.

Sebastián Rulli is Alejandro Almonte

Good guy. Loyal and fair, a gentleman who treats people with respect. His mother, a humble farm worker, died when he was a lad. His life changes when his boss confesses to being his father and leaves him a pot of dough. He becomes a powerful man. He meets Montserrat and falls hopelessly in love with her.

Luis Roberto Guzmán is José Luis Álvarez

Good guy. From a poor background but honorable and a good worker. Capable of anything when it comes to love. Montserrat is the love of his life. When he finds out she is forced to marry a man she despises while he is in jail (unjustly) [spoilers]. He realizes, sadly, that the love Montserrat has for him has changed and that Alejandro, her husband, is a good man.

Sergio Sendel is Pedro Medina

Bad guy, of course. Arrogant and egotistical, of course. [Will he throw phones?] He married Nadia for political reasons: he needed a wife of perfect reputation and a good name when he ran for municipal president. He's dedicated to persecuting Alejandro.

Rogelio Guerra is Lauro Mendoza

Bad guy. Retired husband of Marina, he seems strong but deep down is weak. He and Graciela had two children: Montserrat and Dimitrio. His heart troubles, exacerbated by losing all his riches, have diminished him before his dominating wife.

There are a lot more characters described at Novela y Series

Mentir Para Vivir! (Synopsis)

[This one takes the place of QBA in the 10 PM Eastern time slot and starts on 10/7.  Anybody interested in recapping or subbing, let Melinama know.]

Oriana will be forced to take another identity in order to protect her daughter.  She will have to confront many obstacles and schemes that will make her Lie In Order To Live!

Oriana Caligaris (Mayrin Villanueva—Eduardo Santamarina’s wife) and Jose Luis Falcon (Diego Olivera) are a Mexican married couple who, for some years now, live in Columbia and today have a six year old daughter named Alina (Ana Paula Martinez).

Jose Luis works in the Columbian Customs Office.  One day he confesses to Oriana that he did some contraband transactions and he deposited the earnings from those in an account under her name without her consent. Therefore, she is involved/implicated and the police are now looking for the two of them.  Disillusioned and disappointed, Oriana flees to Mexico with her daughter, Alina, in order to look for a very dear friend, Raquel (Altair Jarabo) who, together with Lucina (Cecilia Gabriela), is owner  of Hotel El Descanso in San Carlos, in the state of Sonora.

Among the guests at the hotel is Don Gabriel Sanchez (Alejandro Tommasi), an old friend of Lucina’s, business partner of an important textile manufacturer located in Hermosillo, Senora. After being a widower, he is now remarried.  His wife (Lourdes Munguia) is an ambitious woman twenty years his junior, and whose brother, Berto (Ferdinando Valencia) is a gigolo/opportunistic playboy.  Gabriel is father of Ricardo (David Zepeda), a successful engineer and of a rebellious adolescent, Sebastian (Alejandro Speitzer).

One day while Don Gabriel is with Alina,   a gunshot is heard and he falls down dead.  Oriana runs in and finds her daughter with a pistol in her hand.  Alarmed, she fears that Alina shot the gun.  At this point, Lucina takes control of the situation, deciding to send the two to Guaymas, Sonora to protect them.

When Ricardo arrives at San Carlos to pick up his dead father’s body and to start an investigation, he’s informed that the principal suspect of the crime is a young woman who’s traveling together with her little daughter.

At that same time, Ines Valdivia (Laisha Wilkins), a strange reclusive young woman, takes up lodging at the hotel and dies unexpectedly.  Always the clever one, Lucina takes advantage of the situation to ensure Oriana assumes Ines’s identity, using false documents, thus placing her safely away from the contraband investigation as well as that of Don Gabriel’s murder.  Oriana has her misgivings, but she has no other option than to (duhn-duhn-duhn-duhhhhhhh!!!!)  Lie In Order To Live!!!!!

La Tempestad: cast of characters

William Levy is Damián Fabré: Captain and owner of the fishing boat La Tempestad in the town called Nuestra Señora del Mar. He's sexy, strong, brave; he encounters problems, constantly being interrupted by pirate attacks, which in reality are "interventions" by a mafia dedicated to traffic in women. He gets bugged by Esthercita, the mayor's daughter, who plans to compromise and marry him. Nevertheless, he finds his true love in Marina.

Ximena Navarrete is Marina Reverte; a professional woman who has succeeded in the world of business and tourism. A beautiful woman, secure in herself, but her career is cut short by her act of justice and courage. She sees a chance to start again in the town of Nuestra Señora del Mar and there meets the love of her life, Damián Fabré.

Iván Sánchez is Hernán Saldaña: an old school chum of Marina's who was much bullied in his adolescence; now he's a powerful impresario. He's attractive and seems a gentleman, but these qualities hide a real mafioso in charge of a ring of kidnappers and white slavers. He sees a chance to conquer Marina and will not hesitate to use his power and money. He is in alliance with the mayor, Fulgencio Salazar.

Daniela Romo is Mercedes Artigas, Marina's biological mother. She is a strong woman, able to confront any problem. She was a humble woman when she became pregnant by a man she loved. Ernesto killed the man and stole one of the twin babies, Magdalena, destined for a life of abuse and prostitution. To protect her other daughter, Marina, Mercedes gave her up for adoption. She made a fortune and has dedicated years to searching for Magdalena.

Manuel Ojeda is Ernesto Contreras, a powerful and evil man who moves in the business world though his fortune is based on illicit operations. He is authoritorian and vengeful, leader of a mafia dedicated to human slavery, especially women who are destined for the world of prostitution. He was once in love with Mercedes Artigas, but she was in love with another man by whom she became pregnant. He assassinated his rival. He never knew Mercedes had twins. Years later life put him face to face with Marina, who was brave enough to denounce him to the police for trying to rape an employee.

César Évora is Fulgencio Salazar, a corrupt man, mayor of Nuestra Señora del Mar. He is the adoptive father of Esthercita, whom he protects or treats badly depending on circumstances. He uses his power to protect Hernan's mafia. he hates Damián, the man his daughter loves, simply for being the son of Michel Fabré, with whom he had difficulties.

Laura Carmine is Esthercita Salazar, a capricious young woman who acts with arrogance because of the influence of her adopted father Fulgencio. She flirts with Damián, and lies in such a way that she obliges him to marry her.

"La Tempestad" (The Tempest) - synopsis in English

Here's the new William Levy vehicle! And we have three open slots for recappers. If you'd like to take a day (or an every-other-week day) contact me (caray@mappamundi.com) - thanks.

The Tempest tells of the love of Marina (Ximena Navarrete) y Damián (William Levy). Marina Reverte managed a hotel until she was fired when she denounced the "important impresario" Ernesto Contreras (Manuel Ojeda) for attempted sexual abuse of an employee. He swears to wreak vengeance.

As if this were not enough, Marina gets the sad news that her mother, Beatriz Reverte (María Sorté), has a life-threatening illness and requires constant rest; she must move to a quiet place.

At the same time, in the town of Nuestra Señora del Mar, Damián Fabré (William Levy), a young captain and owner of a fishing boat called "La Tempestad" supplies merchandise to a canned food manufacturing company, "Neptuno."

Esthercita (Laura Carmine), daughter of the town's mayor, is obsessed with Damian; initially he does not respond to her flirtations, but finally he yields and she 'gets him to seduce her' [editorial indignation - poor William Levy.]

Mercedes Artigas (Daniela Romo), an elegant and mysterious woman, offers Marina the economic and financial management of Neptune, an opportunity she accepts since she doesn't have work and her mother needs to live in a tranquil location. This is how Marina comes to the village of Nuestra Señora del Mar, where she meets Damian.

Mercedes is actually Marina's biological mother [editorial indignation - not again!!??] Poor in her youth, she became pregnant by Ernesto and had twin girls [NOOOOO!!!!] - Ernesto grabbed the other twin, Magdalena (Ximena Navarrete).

Mercedes mad a fortune with which she acquired the respect of those around her, and the power to confront her enemies. She has dedicated her life to recovering her daughters and for that reason has involved herself with people of the underworld who deal in white slavery. She becomes "The Queen of the Night" and has been able to save many young victims.

In the past I've been criticized for printing too much of the sinopsis and as we have a NO SPOILERS policy here, I think this is enough.

Qué Bonito Amor! starts next week. Here's the plot kick-off summary...

Here's the synopsis, courtesy of Vivi. This team is raring to go! They think this is going to be fun...

Qué Bonito Amor! is a love story like no other, which not only encompasses the most endearing Mexican traditions, but also ennobles one of the most representative icons from Mexican culture: mariachi music.
The story begins when we meet Santos Martinez de la Garza (Jorge Salinas), a young (LOL!), handsome and carefree millionaire, who owns a car distribution company. Santos is deceived by his closest partners; one of them is Bruno (Sergio Mayer), his friend and his sister Wendy’s (Susana Diazáyas) boyfriend. After being accused of fraud and money laundering, Santos is compelled to escape from Los Angeles, CA to Mexico, like a fugitive. This situation forces him to take on a new identity: Jorge Alfredo Vargas, a mariachi singer.
At the same time, we meet Maria Mendoza (Danna García), a humble, pretty and brave young (LOL!) girl who lives with her mother, Amalia (Angélica María), a widow; and her two younger sisters,Paloma (Renata Notni), who is about to turn 15, and Isabel (Karyme Hernández), 8 years old. Ever since Pedro her father died, Maria has had to work in order to help her family get ahead in life, because Amalia suffers from a degenerative disease, so Maria is the only support her family has.
Santos and Maria meet at the “Ay Jalisco, No Te Rajes” Bar, where Maria works as a ranchera music singer. It is there in the bar where they both find love for the first time. It is also in this bar, run byDon Concho (Salvador Pineda) and his wife Lourdes (Lina Santos), where the sweetest, saddest, most touching, comic and dramatic situations of the story will take place, together with Maria´s inseparable friends who are members of the bar´s mariachi band: El Coloso/the Giant (Pablo Montero); El Mil Amores/the Casanova (Arturo Peniche), who will turn into Santos´ confidant and ally; El Soñador/the Dreamer (Mariano Palacios); Susanito (Miguel Ángel Biagio); El Barítono (Rafael Negrete); and El Aventurero (Latin Lover)

But there will be lots of tunes, chords, and conflicting forces within Santos and Maria’s love story. Santos will face Ruben del Olmo (Marcelo Buquet), a powerful and dishonest business man who is married but obsessed with Maria´s love; and El Coloso, Maria´s eternal suitor, who will fight for her against Santos. On the other hand, Maria will deal with lies and tricks of Elvira (Malillany Marín), Don Concho´s daughter, who will not rest until she can have Santos at any cost.
And of course, the threat of the revelation of his true identity, jail, and potential separation from his one and only love, the beautiful Maria, hang over Santos. A story full of ranchera music, mariachis, tequila, color, but most of all, full of hopes and dreams that will make us all sing: ¡Qué Bonito Amor!

"Porque El Amor Manda" - TBLMOTP or TBLMOE aka Fernando Colunga is Coming Back...

Buenas noches a todos,  So, it's a long time no hear from.  I have promised Melinama I would post a little synopsis of the new telenovela, "Porque El Amor Manda"  that premieres on Monday, March 11 replacing Por Ella Soy Eva.  I have been away from recapping for so many months, I can't remember when but how could I resist jumping back into the fray with Fernando Colunga to thrill us once again. So here is what Univisión has to say about the new story line:

Fernando Colunga, Blanca Soto to Star in New Univision Soap Opera

MIAMI – The Univision television network on Tuesday announced that its new primetime soap opera “Porque el amor manda,” starring Mexican actors Fernando Colunga and Blanca Soto, will debut on March 11.

The new “telenovela” by Televisa, produced by Juan Osorio, tells a love story focused on a successful female business executive who falls in love with her male secretary, the network said in a communique.

After spending several years trying to make a living in Chicago, Jesus Garcia (Colunga’s character) discovers that he has a daughter with his former girlfriend in Monterrey, Mexico.

Anxious to get to know the little girl, he decides to return to his country, but he falls into a trap linked with a money laundering operation and is arrested.

With a criminal record and no income, Jesus undertakes the difficult task of finding work and learns that a top executive, Alma Montemayor (Soto) is looking for a secretary, he begins to work for her and their romantic involvement commences. EFE

Otherwise, I am swamped with getting the third of five photo exhibits that I will prepare between January and May.  I just returned from two months in Mexico in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas and really just returned from my 4th photo trip to Costa Rica so my Spanish is streetwise but not necessarily  perfect by academic standards.  But who cares?

I will try to dig up some character synopses before Monday but if anyone already has them, feel free to add them to the Caray Caray blog site.  I hope to have much fun and many snarkful moments with old friends and new. ¡Vamos al lunes, muchachos!   Abrazos de Cheryl NewMex

Vivi's synopsis of the plot of Corona de Lagrimas (Crown of Tears)

Vivi tells us Corona de Lagrimas (Crown of Tears) will replace Refugio at 7pm starting December 3. We're thinking that with a title like that, and with no particularly beloved stars, Caray Caray may give this one a pass. If anybody is enthused enough about it to want to blog it, let me know.

When Refugio (Victoria Ruffo) and her three sons, Patricio, Edmundo and Ignacio are thrown out of their home, by a twist of fate they come to Mexico City, where they begin a new life.

Eighteen years later, and have settled in a small apartment in popular area. She has a modest job, and has serious vision problems, but no health care to meet the needs of her children. Patricio studied Law and dreams of a comfortable and prosperous future; Edmundo is studying medicine and is a brilliant student but undisciplined; and Ignacio could only finish high school because he works in a mechanic’s shop, helping his mother to pay for household expenses and the studies of his brothers.

Patricio is the boyfriend of Lucero, daughter Julieta, who lodged with the family when they came to town. But soon after, he rejects Lucero when he meets Olga, a girl whose fickle fortune dazzles him, leading him to be ashamed of his family and to lie about his origins, going so far as to deny his mother. Olga begins to doubt Patricio’s lies. Exposed, he lies again saying that Refugio was his nanny, has a mental illness and he takes care of her. Olga admires his charity. Later, Edmundo begins to woo Lucero, inadvertently hurting Ignacio, who secretly loves her.

Olga asks her father, the lawyer Romulo Ancira, to hire Patricio in his law firm. As her father is fed up with the vagaries of his daughter, he agrees and soon they announce their engagement. Following their wedding, Patricio pulls completely away from his mother and his brothers. When Refugio tries to approach Olga to try to regain the love of her son, she receives only humiliation. This creates disagreements between Patricio and his brothers Edmundo and Ignacio. Then Patricio learns that his father is not the same as his brothers’, accuses his mother of cheating, and demands she not approach him.

Consequently, Refugio falls into a severe depression that leads her to losing her job and aggravates her loss of sight. Neither Edmundo nor Ignacio seem able to comfort her, but strive to get ahead-- Edmundo first by looking for easy money through illegal business, and Ignacio, by borrowing and falling into debt. Edmundo is lands in jail, and the situation worsens when Ignacio goes to ask Patricio to legally defend Edmundo and he refuses.

The married life of Patricio and Olga is a mess. She is such a jealous wife that she uses emotional blackmail on Patricio, even attempting suicide. Patricio’s world of luxury and comfort crumbles.

When the man who ruined the lives of Refugio and her children comes back in their lives, by chance, Patricio learns the truth about his origins and the efforts of his mother despite adversity. The pain of his own failures, defeats the arrogance of Patricio. He begs the pardon of Refugio and agrees to defend his brother, after which family harmony is recovered.
