Weekend Discussion 11/23/19: Karmageddon for the Reptiles of Cuna de Lobos
I
have concluded that the better title for this tale would have been
Abismo de Serpientes. It would seem to me that anyone
entering the territory of Catalina Creel is as much in danger as if
he were entering Ilha da Queimada Grande. Wolves are monogamous,
social, and warm-blooded. They love their young. They are the
ancestors of and reproductively compatible with our beloved dogs.
Snakes are cold-blooded and do not care for their young. They are
also more prone to cannibalism.
We
are so close to the end due to the endless twists and turns of this
story and its unpredictability. Therefore, we have many points to
consider. As usual, we ponder the fates of this Royal Family of
Evil:
For
those unaware, Mexico does not have capital punishment. Do your best
to second-guess or outdo what is to come. – D.D.

Discussion, 10/30/19: Fabrica de Sueños, Televisa's Failure?
The
excellent La Usurpadora and the much-anticipated Cuna
de Lobos were part of a Televisa initiative to present lavish
25-episode productions of past classics by the network. What
mystifies me is the reason behind some of these, as I have seen most
of them. The Wikipedia page listed the rest of them in this order:

Weekend Discussion, 3/23/18: Por Amar Sin Ley or L.A. Law's Twin
Por Amar Sin Ley or L.A.
Law's Twin
Back when we were playing Televisa
Remake games (click the label “weekend” below for list) we didn't
think of L.A. Law as a possibility. Obviously someone
did because this series certainly feels like it. Most of the
emsemble-cast characters have counterparts, there is a parade of
clients some of whom are symbolic of social issues, and the
relationships between the lawyers and their love interests will be
the most active element of the series. Let's dive in:
Managing Partners
Alonso Vega and Leland MacKenzie are
both mature men who are paternal figures. Both are law professors,
virtually live at the firm, and take a personal interest in the lives
of their staff.

Por Amar Sin Ley – Dramatis Personae Starts Monday 3/5/18 10PM EST
I didn't change anything except
grammar errors and pronoun errors that occur in Google Translate.
However, I have some doubts regarding descriptions such as that of
characters' ages, which I left as given. If this information is accurate we will get a few
people being cast against type so this could be very interesting.
RICARDO BUSTAMANTE (David Zepeda)
Attractive lawyer specialized in family
law. In his forties, handsome, kind, noble, sincere and hardworking.
Partner of the law firm Vega. He is constantly guided by the laws of
ethics and love and, in general, seeks to help others instead of
thinking about himself. He has an excellent relationship with his
ex-wife's children, Elena; and although they are not his blood sons,
he raised them from very young, which is why he sees them as his own.
Ricardo finds in Alejandra an admirable woman and with whom he shares
the same ideals, so that soon the attraction he feels for her becomes
love.

Weekend Discussion 2/16/18: Karmageddon for the Tempted – Caer en Tentacion
Karmageddon
for the Tempted – Caer en Tentacion
The
evil ones of this tale are long overdue for punishment, folks. Let's
talk about what the writers are likely to do and what we'd do
ourselves. This is all up to Episode 93:
Andres
Becker / Arath de la Torre – The Beast
Guilty
of promoting prostitution involving borderline jailbait girls,
possible paedophilia, blackmail, embezzlement, sexual harassment,
attempted rape, sexual assault of helpless victim (Cinthia),
conspiracy to frame innocent parties, menacing, corporate theft,
money laundering, getting Laura to go on the air to lie about what
really happened (and boinking her in the process).

Weekend Discussion 9/29/17: Toxic Sisters
I've often said that series villains
are far more effective when they are related to the protagonists and
between members of the same generation there is nothing like sisters
of similar age, whether the issue is over the hero or an inheritance.
If women had been on the stage in Shakespeare's time he would have
created toxic ones too, because the emotional stakes would have still
been higher than those he was able to express between brothers.
Here
is a list of evil sisters for your consideration:

Weekend Discussion: Karmegeddon in the Capital: La Candidata
Throughout
history there have been many career politicians since Roman times.
Some become such because of a need to serve their people and others
only for the power it gives them. They often visit the same sick
need for power over the people in their private lives.
Those
who abuse the trust of the people deserve the worst punishment
available. The only problem is that sometimes it is difficult to
determine what that is: Should sociopaths like these be executed,
locked away, or is there a worse fate in our time? I ask you all:
What
do you think the writers have done to them and –
If
you could decide their fate, what would it be?
-- D.D.

Weekend Discussion, 5/19/17: Toxic Mothers, Round III
Now
that we're past Mother's Day, it's time to review some of those that
are undeserving of such honor. Do any of them come up to the level
of Catalina Creel of Cuna de Lobos? Let's talk about
this:

Vino El Amor 5/12/17 Alternate Ending is Finally Dunne
It's
been a little while since I've visited wine country. It was time to
catch up with some of the people I've met there. While it's usually
a little more relaxed than the social scenes in the major cities,
it's not without tales with more juice than the grapes in Napa
Valley. Here is a section from my forthcoming book, More Grapes
of Wrath.

D.D.
It
was 1 AM and David Robles could not sleep. Most would think that
normal for a bridegroom, even one who had previous experience of this
event. The truth was he had looked for any excuse to not marry Graciela.

Vino El Amor: Alternate Endings 5/11/17
Note: This will have multiple endings added as they come in. Mine is posted on its own only because I am extremely verbose. My apologies if that looks narcissistic. Julie's has been added.
Delilah's
ending
Luciana
realizes that the best thing is for her to finally put HERSELF first.
She tells her family that she realizes she needs to be away to grow
and pursue her love of wine and so she is going to travel through
Europe and taste wine, maybe work at a vineyard. It's heartbreaking
for David especially who begs her not to leave, but alas she does
anyway vowing to always love him.

Weekend Discussion 4/15/17: Vino el Amor Karmageddon comes to Sonoma
Who
would have thought that the snake from the Garden of Eden really
lurks in a vineyard? Well, it's time he bites the evil ones in this
pastoral tale. As usual we will ask the
following two questions:
What
do you think the writers will do to them?
What
do you think they really deserve?
Let's
start with the self-styled queen and her spawn:

Upcoming Telenovelas: Stevey Tells Us What’s Happening in Mexico (2017)
The following post is from Commenter Stevey, who shares all he knows about the new telenovelas in the
works in Mexico, that we may or may not see eventually in the U.S.
Hi everybody!! In the past, I've tried to put together
a little 'fact sheet' for you guys in regards to what's going on
telenovela-wise 'South of the Border', in the land where they come from!
As I realize that whatever it is the staggeringly disgraceful boobs at
Univision decide on by way of programming, will ultimately entail just what it
is that YOU guys get to watch up yonder, America-way. Some will make it,
some will not... and god knows which will be which (hell, with the Univision
execs being what they are, I doubt even HE knows!). But, that being said,
I wanted to come up with a post that hopefully you will find informative, enlightening,
useful, entertaining, or any combination therein! I apologize for its
stupefying length, but it's a labor of love to be sure (I just hope it isn't as
such reading it!) To avoid editorializing (I unfortunately do that enough
once I get going, for which I apologize... FWIW, I'm writing this paragraph
last, so I know what I'm talking about here...), I'm just going to get right in
on things, and on the projects that we've got on hand right now, or are already
actively in preparation in some way...

Karmageddon for the Rich and Shameless: Pasión y Poder 4/8/16
I
have always loved the concept of poetic justice, of people getting
the fate they deserve. This does not often happen among those who
can buy their way out of it or get someone else to do it for them.
Many – if not most – who can do this have no conscience about it.
Few feel any regret for their actions or remorse for the
consequences; most that do are too late to do more than pick up the
pieces.
Human
crime is not limited to things subject to legal judgment. Many
crimes are social, familial, or both. Most of these are behind
closed doors and at least half will hurt the perpetrator as much as
the victim. All they can do at that point is close ranks to save
face if they can manage to avoid the paparrazzi who – for this crowd – is Dante's Inferno. – D.D.

Weekend Discussion: Crimes of Fashion, 4th Edition 3/25/16
There
is so much Stürm
und Drang among the denizens of the DF upper crust that it seemed
appropriate to understand why these emotional conflicts exist. A few of
the women in the midst of this conflict might have made their lives
better – in their own minds – with better fashion choices. It
was only the sudden death of Monserrat Moret that made Nina Perez de
Montenegro the main focus of this latest edition. She is no Ann
Grenville in money matters and even now still has much to learn of
fashion in the world she hopes to stay in.
Thanks
to Soledad Romero-Vargas, our fashion critic here at Vanidades,
we bring you these fashion felonies. Enjoy.
