Sueno de Amor, #23 Friday, 04/08/16 Too disturbing for words

Good morning everyone. I hope you all enjoy your weekend. I sure know I started mine on the wrong foot, after having watched this very disturbing episode. I won't get into too much detail when it comes to most of the show, because, honestly, it wasn't very interesting, but there were a couple of scenes that left me speechless (especially one in particular).
More on that later.

For now, we start with Ric arriving at Esperanza’s house for the tenth time that day to tell her that Tracy is going to take the kids and go to LA. Slow motion sadness all around.
He reminds Esperanza and the viewers all the suffering he’s had to endure in his life : the desert, jail, war, training to become an incompetent SuperSpy and a lousy boss. But nothing prepared him for the pain of losing his children. He will go to LA and appeal the temporary custody sentence. Tracy is using the children, which is too low even for her.
Espe encourages him to fight for the most valuable thing in his life : his biceps children’s happiness. They get touchy with one another and glance longingly, but this is as far as they go… for now.

Mario and Felicia are still having coffee, when he says that he has to leave. He is so clumsy in his infatuation, that he is barely able to stumble outside. Felicia loves what she’s seeing.
Until I get an explanation about her bitchiness with Pato a while ago, I won’t be able to get behind this couple.

Karmageddon for the Rich and Shameless: Pasión y Poder 4/8/16

I have always loved the concept of poetic justice, of people getting the fate they deserve. This does not often happen among those who can buy their way out of it or get someone else to do it for them. Many – if not most – who can do this have no conscience about it. Few feel any regret for their actions or remorse for the consequences; most that do are too late to do more than pick up the pieces.

Human crime is not limited to things subject to legal judgment. Many crimes are social, familial, or both. Most of these are behind closed doors and at least half will hurt the perpetrator as much as the victim. All they can do at that point is close ranks to save face if they can manage to avoid the paparrazzi who – for this crowd – is Dante's Inferno. – D.D.

Sueño de amor, Ep. 22 (4.7.2016) Esperanza wants to believe something so badly, she ignores the reality around her.

Or like we say, 'No hay peor ciego que el que no quiere ver.

The dream love is becoming a nightmare
Luca (immaturus sucrotoxicus) postponed his trip a number of times until he lost his place in Járvar and even when he's supposed to go to Boston, is still here. He offered Adrián an emergency hot line in case he felt the temptation of grabbing the bottle and left the room. After him, Viviana told Adrián how lonely she feels and accidentally drops the bomb: He is a unwanted son. But since every cloud has a silver lining, she looks it on the bright side: Ernesto (Immoralix Vulgaris) never left her. Well, either that or he stayed for her gorgeous bank account.
While packing in his room, Luca has a surprise visit from Anastasia (fauxblondix skankis) and the cameraman make sure that we, and her, of course, see his ''wedding'' ring. Is actually a promise of eternal love ring, a never ending love like the silvery circle itself. She tries to rekindle the fire they used to light in this very room, but Luca is taken and not interested.

Forever 64
Later on, Viviana (MILFus gerontofobicus) asks Ana who did her boob job because she wants a pair like hers. Luca, who swears not being interested in Ana but still follows her around, hears them and goes crazy remembering the motorboat moments he had with the voluptuous blonde.
-Mom, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Getting addicted to cosmetic surgeries is worse than crack and she cries while saying that she needs to feel young again to stop taking selfies with a filter. She honestly wants to be loved again like when she was young. I am sure Ernst didn't see her beauty because he was busy seeing the resemblance of her green eyes and the dollar bills

Pasión y poder, Episode 120, Thursday, April 7, 2016: What happens in Vegas... comes back to haunt you in Mexico (even when nothing much happened).

In which Julia and Eladio suffer, each believing that the other has been unfaithful, and each too proud to tell the other the truth; Nina gets tougher; and Arturo...  well, Arturo is still a putz.

Franco the Joker is taking the enemy down.  He can hardly contain his glee – he smirks and mugs and grins, excitedly waving his spider-like fingers in the air as he cants his head to one side or the other.  He is pushing Julia farther and farther out of the picture.  Eladio grows more vulnerable every day.  Gabriela still seems bewitched.  And the Joker dances daringly ever closer to the flaming abyss.

Julia says goodbye to the tacky charms of Las Vegas and thanks Arturo for providing a few days of distraction away from all her problems.  Of course, she admits, flashing him a radiant smile, she is still a little confused.  [Oh god.]  Arturo, however, has his eye fixed firmly on the prize.  He still loves Julia, he assures her – he has never stopped loving her.

Sueño de amor #21 Wednesday 4/6/16

Wow! Another action filled episode. Our questions are finally being answered! So, let us get right to it!

We pick up the action inside the warehouse where La Sombra is keeping Esperanza. He is continuing to threaten her at gun point and threatening her. As the force of special agents engage La Sombra's henchmen, there is a lot of gun fire, hand to hand combat and a confrontation with a group of La Sombra mannequins. As Ricardo wonders which if any of the La Sombra figures are real in front of him, the voice of La Sombra greets him and tells him how much he enjoyed making Esperanza suffer. Ricardo shoots but La Sombra himself is long gone. In the background of much of the scene there in "James Bondish" music playing. Ricardo finally finds and unties Esperanza. He take her into his arms and apologizes for what he caused to happen to her. She just sobs.

At the same time, Tracy is at home on the phone with Mr. Parker, her lawyer, telling him that she does not have to feel sorry for him (Ricardo) because that is the only way to force him (to do what she wants). She hopes Mr. Parker understands. Talking to herself she tells Ricardo, her love, that one way or another he was looking for it (guess she is now giving it to him).

El Hotel de los Secretos #50, 4/6/16: The Party is Over

This is your substitute reporter for Hotel this evening. Ay Caray, so much happened yesterday, I hope tonight is a little quieter. I mean, gunshots, problems with the electric lights. My nerves just can't take it (Anita fans self). I didn't even think the canapes and the hors d'oeuvres were that good at the party. It was too hot and too many overdressed people. No wonder Cece and Diego went out for some fresh air. And to top it off, the guest of honor never showed up, nor any of the Alarcon progeny. It was very insulting.

BREAKING NEWS: The party was a bust. The Lady in Red appeared at the last moment. The missing Anastasio Tagle has been found, dead in a church pew. Investigation is just beginning. Matilde loses a special patient, the One-Armed Pablo succumbs to his bleeding mid-section. Ayala comforts her with a philosophical discourse on the cycle of life and death. Sofia disappears in the middle of the night. Diego keeps losing track of his wife. These and other stories will be in tomorrow's edition.

Part 1
Diego has been searching everywhere for his missing wife. He finds her in Romulo's study with a tall skinny camarero, alone, together, sort of. He quizzes Isabel about this inappropriate situation. Isabel thinks before she speaks. She tells him she was looking for a necklace and thought she might have left it here. She often comes here for solace after her father died. She holds up the necklace (the "Angela" necklace). Diego's original question has not been answered. What is the camarero doing here? Julio has been thinking before he speaks. He tells Diego the senora was locked in and called for help. The room is usually locked during big events (security, dude) and one of the servants may have locked it not knowing the senora was inside.

El Hotel de los Secretos #49, 4/5/16: To Err Is Human; To Be Heir is Andres

Sofia can’t deal with the Big Void in her life; Mama talks her down after admitting she hated Sofia as a child but then learned or realized how much she loved her.  Why else had she stayed with her night and day since she went totally bonkers…..(Great minds of Viewerville actually do want to know.) Alfredo gave up on her; she doesn’t deserve him now.  If she pulls the trigger, says Mama then Mama will kill herself also.

It was because Sofia had her father’s looks and bearing – Teresa saw his lyin’ eyes and mouth and Teresa’s own humiliations.  Sofia  was also a very demanding child.  She drained everything out of Teresa.  Once she was finally able to see Sofia for herself, it was too late; Sofia wasn’t “in there”.  Teresa tells her they’ll find the truth together,  they’ll find it themselves together.  A big mother daughter hug ensues.

Pasión y Poder Martes 4/5/16 #118

Chapter 118: Higher Stakes

People gamble with all sorts of currency and all kinds of luck, good and bad. Those who are lucky at cards are said to be unlucky in love. Some people gamble on both and lose badly. Some don't realize that there are higher stakes than money like hearts, reputations, egos, lives. Typically, they also don't examine the odds... or that the house always wins in the end. – D.D.

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #20. Tuesday April 5, 2016. La Sombra Shoots Esperanza!

Hello Patio Pals! We’ll have to make do with a quick summary until a volunteer takes over this recapping spot.

Triana is still alive. That woman has more lives than a siamese cat.

In a warehouse somewhere in Mexico City’s murky underbelly of crime and art trafficking, La Sombra shows Esperanza his mangled hand or the stump where his hand used to be. We were only shown Esperanza’s horrified expression. All we know for sure is that La Sombra has lost sensation there and that Ricardo is to blame. We also learn that La Sombra murdered Ricardo’s best friend and threatened little Rodrigo with killing his father.

Kracy and Ernesto were getting ready to really know each other, in the biblical sense, but news of Esperanza’s kidnapping interrupts them.

Ernesto mobilizes his connections to look for Esperanza. He also comforts Pato and vows to pay whatever ransom (rescate) the kidnappers demand.

El Hotel de los Secretos #48, 4/4/16: Smoke and Bookshelves

It's night-time. The Gold Knife Killer, or a copycat, stabs Angela's husband Pablo. Pablo screams, and Ayala et al come running. Ayala instructs someone to give Pablo first aid. Meanwhile, Ayala searches high and low for the killer, but is felled by a block dropped from above.

Andres and Julio are in their room. Julio again fails to tell Andres anything. What's more, Cecilia is at their door! She wants to talk. Julio takes her outside. She tells him she did Diego. Julio is unimpressed. Cece says Diego knows Isabel wasn't a virgin, and Cece knows that Julio's the guy. She either says that Diego is filled with hell or that being with him was hell... either way, she's got some physical souvenirs from the experience and shows them to Julio: on her lip, on her neck, on her shoulder. "Montejo did this?" Julio asks stupidly. "No, YOU did this to me!" Cece accuses. She says something like, have your fun now while you can, because the longer I have to wait for you the more you'll have to pay. (That sounds insane. Did I get it wrong? Is she really that nutty?)

Isabel braids her hair. Diego calls her to bed. She dutifully approaches. (I guess Cecilia didn't wear him out after all.)

Morning. Benjamin flogs or scourges himself with a wicked-looking cat o' nine tails, luxuriating in every stroke. Is it a routine flogging, or is this a special occasion?

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #19. Monday April 4, 2016. The Evil Ninjas Kidnapped My Mommy!

At a glance

-- La Sombra abducts Esperanza. Finally, things are moving! We are cooking with gas!
-- In other news: Kracy is being her usual Kracy self, Luca is leaving for Járvar at long last, Mario is attracted to a milder version of his castrating wife and Triana Fonseca is dead.

A closer look

Previously on “How I Left Your Mother”: Ricardo drops the “I love you” bomb and his kids’ Wolverine aural faculties picked it up instantly. Igor (that’s Rodrigo to you) is outraged: “You love her? What about Mom?”. He gives Esperanza the stink-eye. Nikita (known in some circles as Selena) says something unintelligible. Sorry, I didn’t catch it; I’m still working on my Russo-Gringo-Spanish.

We’re back at the romantic tête-à-tête of schmaltz and clinginess. A waiter deposits a giant slab of chocolate something on PatoLuca’s table. The kissing step-siblings agree to have a silent parenthesis of staring into each other’s eyes and smelling each other’s aroma, yet we don’t get a respite from the corniness because they just won’t shut up! I swear, there is a starry-eyed 13-year-old girl somewhere, with a giant bag of jelly babies and an endless supply of glitter sharpies churning out the dialogue for this pair. Next!

Erasmo the builder is so poor he can’t afford milk or tomatoes. Ain’t that a biatch! Meanwhile, another builder over on "Pasión y Poder" has so much money he is sparing no expense to woo the daughter of a millionaire. He’s showering her with gifts: flowers, chocolates, tacos al pastor, quesadillas de huitlacoche, a pet turtle and even a fun day at the fair! But I digress.

Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 7 (Apr 4, 2016)

---Notice: Univision has announced a fork in the Camino.  Camino is switching times with Sueno. Camino will be broadcast at 8:00 pm, not 7:00 pm starting Monday night (Apr 4). There has been no reason given why the switch was made (although we might suspect it is doing quite well and they want a stronger lead-in to the show replacing PyP at 9:00).

Carlos and Fernanda are also at a crossroad in their Camino. Fernanda has graduated from the prepa with honors and she has the whole summer ahead of her to decide whether to go to a local university on a full scholarship or study music at a renown school elsewhere. It's not clear where Carlos fits into her dreams. Carlos is ever more committed to a relationship with Fer, but he's faced with Isabela's pregnancy bomb. He wants to keep this information from Fernanda--for now, but too many people in his circle already know. Some want Fernanda to know about it and suffer.

Amelia and Pedro are also at a crossroad in their Camino. Amelia is proceeding with the divorce and plans to tell Fernanda when she returns from her school trip to Cabo. Although she still pines for Luis, she's at the beginning of a new friendship with Lic. Ordoñez, an important bank employee she's met. She's also wants to contact her long-estranged father and to tell Luis that Fer is his daughter. Pedro is conflicted over this turn of events. He's angry and frustrated that all his love and devotion to Amelia in 19 years has not changed her attitude towards him. She does not and cannot love him. She continues to resent him--big time. He does not want Fer to know he's not her bio-daddy.

Pasión y Poder Episode #116 Friday, April 1st 2016 While Julia has a jealous snit, Erick gets busted, and Petra may finally get some romance.

At Casa Montenegro, Julia has arrived to see Daniela, when she spots her ex-husband Eladio with Nina. Naturally, Julia thinks the worst, and accuses her ex-husband of not knowing how to be without a woman. Nina sees this as her golden opportunity, and she's not about to let it slide, so she sticks it to Julia by telling her that she (Nina) and Eladio have just as much right to be together as she (Julia) and Arturo do. With the difference that they (Nina & Eladio) have a clean conscience since they didn't destroy a family. Julia can't believe that Nina has the audacity of accusing her of being with Arturo, when she and Eladio are the ones who are together. Nina can't believe that Julia has the audacity to show her face at Casa Montenegro when Arturo doesn't live there anymore. Before more can be said between both woman, Daniela arrives, and Nina and Eladio leave so Julia and Daniela can talk. (Surprisingly, Eladio remained quiet throughout the scene, was he out of his breath spray, perhaps?!)

In another room at Casa Montenegro, while Nina hopes that Eladio won't get upset with her for what she told Julia, Eladio can't seem to comprehend Julia's behavior. Why was she so irked at the two of them for seeing one another? According to Nina, women are just apprehensive, they love to still be loved, despite the circumstances. Uh, okay.

Meanwhile, Julia offers Daniela her help after she stupidly admits to coming to see her because Arturo asked her to. Daniela is not amused. She already knows that Julia asked David to break up with her. And now this. She doesn't believe in Julia's help.

Andrés hops out of his room and demands that Alfredo give him back his baby. He spills the entire pot of beans: Doña Teresa snatched this baby from Belén’s arms. Belén is the real mother and Andrés is the real father of the child that Alfredo thinks is his. Well, spank him cross-eyed, Alfredo did not see that coming! He is impactado to the bazillionth power!

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #18. Friday April 1, 2016. A Measly Crumb Of Relevance In A Chilorta Of Insipid Fillers

At a glance

-- Luca still hasn't left for Járvar.
-- Estrella and Adrián are officially novios. Lord, save us.
-- Kracy is hatching schemes and forging alliances all over town to screw over Ricardo and Esperanza. A hotshot lawyer, paid for by Ernesto, will help her gain custody of the kids.

-- Anastasia has a secret that Ernesto threatens her with exposing if she doesn't stay away from Luca.
-- Ricardo unveils another teensy-weensy chapter of "How I Left Your Mother". His kids hear his love confession to Esperanza.

A closer look

Outside school, a sweet boy delivers a box to Esperanza. Inside lies a black flower. Her kids find the "gift" macabre.

At Instituto Palacios, Félix arrives late and Ricardo reminds him that he should get a yellow card for his tardiness because the teaching staff (docentes) ought to be at school 15 minutes early. Félix does not find the reversal of roles amusing: so now it turns out that ducks are opening fire on shotguns (ahora resulta que los patos le tiran a las escopetas)? Ricardo thinks his supervisor ought to have a sense of humor. Selena imagines a Pokemon fight between her dad and Félix where the latter is defeated and loses half his musical mustache. I will spare you the rant.

Sueño de amor, Ep. 17 (3.31.2016) The theme for today: Disappointment

México, D.F. (Not to be confused with Los Angeles, California, EEUU)

Complete idiot's guide to elusive thief catching FOR DUMMIES!
Dark is the night and visibility is low in this kind of costumes, so The Shady shadow knocks Ricardo down like a piñata. Before he runs away, he says something like, ''Sorry Ricardo, me duele la panza'' (it's hard to understand with that mask on). Of course the first thought that comes to Ricardo's mind is his ''beloved'' Esperanza, and the chase is on. People running in a black costume out of halloween season is probably something you see every day in Mexico, since nobody seems to pay attention.

Nearby, muy oronda, unbeknown to her of the danger she is in, Esperanza nibbles on a croissant before getting home. The day was long and she is hungry, so why wait? The smell of freshly baked bread takes her to the streets of Paris and suddenly Ricky Le mime shows up right in front of her yielding a gun. He almost runs her over and both face what he thinks is his nemesis, but turns out is only a dummy. They fell in the trap, because in one of the apartments on the second floor, The shady villain have all the time in the world to take the perfect picture with his gigantic zoom lens. Where does he keep it? Is he renting that place? Isn't easier to carry the Samsung Galaxy S6 and get the same high quality in low light and even moving pics?? He is so bad I am sure part of his vendetta against Ricardo is to post them on Kracy's Facelook wall, just to see the sucking lemon face she does.

After this incident with the mannequin and the gun, Esperanza is perplex and Ricardo is forced to confess part of his secret a cuentagotas (in dribs and drabs). Even when she has been begging since the beginning that she need explanations, she doesn't get the whole enchilada. Ricardo only does what he does best, promises, promises...

Pasión y poder, Episode 115, Thursday, March 31: Of cakes and fakes and folks on the take

Nina lashes out at Consuelo

The sight of Consuelo leaning on Arturo for comfort is more than Nina can bear.  [Maybe Nina remembers when she was the one taking tearful refuge in Arturo's arms the last time Chimp Boy was in the hospital.]  If the younger woman wants to see her son, Nina tells her bitterly, let her visit him at the mansion – especially if she continues to hang out with that dangerous chimp-beater, Miguel.

Consuelo protests that Miguel would never hurt a child, especially her son.  Nina isn't so sure:  Behind his gloomy, hypocritical face (cara de mustio) lurks a psychopath!  [But I think she's only saying that because she's a narcissist.]

¡Ya basta, Nina! says Arturo.  Miguel was only defending Consuelo.

"Whose side are you on?" Nina wants to know.

"I'm on the side of both of my sons because I love them both."

Nina doesn't buy it.  It's Miguel's fault that Chimp Boy is languishing in the hospital.  [And it's Arturo's fault that he isn't languishing in the reclusorio, but Agustín isn't around to remind them of that.]

Sueño de amor #16 3/30/16

Here we go!!!! I started this late and will deal with typos later today.

I have to admit I would have loved to have been one of the kids in the "ataque" scene. Anyway, tonight we have the appearance of Carmen Salinas as Margarita Manzanares the principal of Instituto Vasconcelos. She is a hoot with her famous "Oooooh" which always reminds me of George Takei of Star Trek fame and his famous "Oooooh". Anyway, . . .

We see Esperanza scoop up Selena as Selena presses the fire alarm button. The school is evacuated and Ricardo is saved from his embarrassing fate eventhough as luck would have it he has to rescue and carry Pámela out who is having a panic attack. As the teachers and students congregate outside of the school, Tracy plants a big kiss on Ricardo to mark her territory just so Esperanza can see and she does.

In the meantime at Ernesto's house, Ernesto is warning his lackey Murillo that he better contact Tracy and make an appointment with her for him or he will lose his job and by the way (since Murillo is in the middle of a coughing jag) he should stop smoking those damn cigarettes.

El Hotel de los Secretos #44, 3/29/16: Hidden Charms

·        Belen bumps into Diego on the way to the police station and gets waylaid.  He forces her to watch the Double’s informal burial on the side of the road.  Belen blubbers as Garrido digs.  Diego shoots Garrido dead and blames Belen as the devil what made him do it.  He then tells her to start running and essentially not to stop till she’s far, far away.

·        Andres, pigheadedly insists Belen will magically appear again.  He persuades Natalia to fetch the town padre.  He has the priest, Mama Angela, Julio and Natalia there for the supposed wedding.  Our stubborn stand-up guy gets stood up.  Belen doesn’t return and nobody knows where she’s gone, tho’ Angie does suspect at least one reason why she split.  (Good riddance to ungrateful, money-grubbing garbage!  Viewerville has the feeling, though, that like flies to feces, she won't be able to resist the temptation to return for Andres and to get hitched and thus lay claim to his inheritance once again.)

Pasión y Poder Martes 3/29/16 #113

Chapter 113: Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth

Errant children can be a great equalizer even after they are legally adults. They bring out both the best and the worst in their parents. It has been said that the rich and the poor are very alike when such things happen. And there are certainly things that money of whatever age cannot fix. – D.D.

Arturo had seen Daniela's test results: positive for cocaine. She was her usual petulant self, telling him to leave her alone and trying to leave. He didn't allow her to do this. In her usual bid for attention she tried to claim he didn't care about her. For all that she was actually twenty-one years old she had the attitude of one half that age. When he told her she was not alone and that he would take her to the rehab center she looked as though she were facing her execution.
Daddy, daddy, you can't do this to me. Let me do another test. I'm sure it was wrong.”
But Arturo was having none of this. He told her he was taking her to rehab and that was that. He did not allow her to leave with her friend. He insisted that he was taking her home to her mother then to the rehab center.

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #15. Tuesday March 29, 2016. Yes You Caught My Ex With Her Tongue Down My Throat But She Doesn't Mean A Thing To Me! I Luuurve You!

At a glance

-- Luca's ex is back in town. She puts the kibosh on the PatoLuca pairing on the day of her arrival. Now, this is what I call a self-respecting villana.
-- Erasmo is fired then rehired by Mario.
-- Kracy and Principal Crazy-Eyes form the League of Extraordinary Crazies.
-- Kracy warns Esperanza to stay away from her Reecherd. Ernesto tries to pump Pato for info about Esperanza and Ricardo. Ernesto wants to ally with Kracy in order to keep the star-crossed lovers apart.
-- Still no valid explanation for Ricardo's 20-year-long disappearing act. Just something about a passer named El Coyote and six people lost in the desert.

A closer look

We begin tonight’s foray into Sueñolandia with Ricardo’s appointment as the new PE teacher of the Musturd School for The Emotionally Stunted, or Colegio Vasconcelos as Osorio prefers to call it.

Mario Kuri, the mascot for kitty-whipped husbands everywhere, fires recently-promoted Erasmo.

The Three Stooges inaugurate their sandwich stand for tortas de chilaquiles or chilortas outside the two schools. Childhood obesity isn’t gonna foster itself. They give away the first chilortas for free, then sell the others at half price. They incur a significant loss and fear that the grand opening will soon be followed by a grand closing.

Pasion y Poder #112 20160328 Your Honor, I Was Raped Last Night, I Might Be Pregnant, and It's Making Me Very Horney

*In front of the judge, Connie accuses Erick of rape.  The judge says no police report plus no rape kit equals no rape.  He can't consider her accusation without proof.

*Gina asks Miguel how the custody case is going.  Miguel doesn't know because Auggie suggested that he to stay away from Connie.  Neither the judge nor Erick appreciate him coveting his brother's wife.  Since, he's socially awkward he didn't get the memo about this being generally frowned upon by most of the world, so he'll have to take Augustin's word for it.

*Dave and Dani are still in bed together.  Dave tells Dani that she can be herself around him.  Don't change for me, he says.  Translation: in manspeak he's saying that he's attracted to Angelina Jolie, not Jennifer Aniston. He likes him a a little dirty girl.  Dani assures him that deep inside, she has always been the "Disney years Miley Cyrus" and not the "the Wrecking Ball and twerkin' Miley Cyrus".  Matter of fact, she's a virgin too.  Dave buys this because he's stupid.  Dani tells him that she loves him and wants him to like her "different" than her sister.  He assures her that he will.

Sueno de amor, #14 - 03/28/16 P.E. Teacher needed - Requirements: good looking guy, with great body, killer smile and very complicated family life

Happy belated Easter to those who celebrated this weekend. I hope you all rested, filled your tummies and got ready for a new week of Sueno de amor (and other regular activities, you know).

This felt like a filler episode, so I kind of rambled a lot. Looking forward to your ramblings in the comment section.
We pick up right from where we left off, with Ernesto and Ricardo’s piss contest fight about who is the better man.
Ernie pretends that he has no clue about the guy who was following Ric ; so what if he was his employee, he doesn’t care what his personnel does outside of office hours. And he won’t take this interrogatory anymore. What is Ric, a cop? No, he’s just a mere teacher, Ernie adds with contempt.
Well, Esperanza is just a teacher, too, and you still fell in love with her, Ric counter-attacks. Ernie proudly agrees and not only that, but he and Espe also share a child. Yeah, one that he abandoned, Ric points out. Things degenerate and a fight is about to erupt, but Super Spy is definitely the better fighter, managing to twist Ernie’s hand and kneel him at the same time. As he walks out, Ric adds that he won’t leave Esperanza’s side anymore and he’s definitely not afraid of Ernie (who's screaming for security at the point).

Patoluca are still post bliss (not that kind of bliss, thankfully). She’s in awe over his amazing-ness (what else is new?). He always finds ways to scare her to death provoke her, she didn’t even have the time to prepare (did she by any chance wet her pants during the jump? I know I would have). Luca assures her that they were safe the whole time and, besides, he would never hurt her.
This last statement gives Pato the sads: yeah, maybe he would never hurt her intentionally, but she can’t forget the fact that he’s about to go away for a long time (if only he could go faster). He reassures her that they will be OK – he loves her and yada yada yada ... smooches smooches smooches….

El Hotel de los Secretos #43, 3/28/16: The key. Remember the key?

Felipe asks Garrido where he can get a lot of wine for cheap. Garrido recommends a guy named Jorge Arenas. Felipe needs an introduction. He swears it will be worth Garrido's trouble. They take off to meet with Arenas.

Teresa asks Diego to prepare a discreet burial for Baby #1. He picks up the phone, then pauses. We don't need a funeral.

Isabel stands in the hallway in yet another white dress. She sees wet Julio hustling out of Cecilia's room as Cecelia's voice calls from the other side of the door, "don't be a coward." Isabel makes as if to knock, but Mateo materializes behind her to say that Mrs. Limantur is waiting in the garden to meet her for breakfast. Also, a maid named Emelia needs help reading a letter. Isabel agrees to read them the letter on the way to the garden. (Standard letter-from-Mom stuff. Mom can write, but she doesn't know that Emelia can't read?)

Sofia looks bad. She knows what she did. She can't even look at the dead baby on the bed and she slides the bedroom door shut behind her without turning around. She leans (actually, sort of rubs up in a creepy way) against the door to the hallway and pleads, "come back, come back." Wow, that'll be a fine sight for Alfredo to come home to.

Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 6 (March 28, 2016)

---And Baby Makes Four, or Three, or Two, But Not One

Our ethical, dedicated, handsome and hopelessly in love Dr. Carlos, is on the horns of a well-calculated, well-timed dilemma, not of his own making. With the announcement of the (fake) pregnancy of his very recently ex-girlfriend, he has various outcomes staring at him.

1) There is a baby. He doesn't want to give up Fernanda, but his mother and Isabela are ready to take over the management of his relationships. Fernanda breaks up with him because she believes he must "do the right thing" by the baby. There will be wedding bells in his not too distant future.

2) There is a baby. He just can't give up Fernanda. He defies his mother. He begs Fernanda not to break up with him. They love each other madly, deeply. He is certain they can work this out and still be together. She agrees to stand by him.

3) There is no baby. He will try desperately to prove its non-existence. He begs Fernanda not to break up with him until there is solid proof, one way or another. If there is no baby, he won't have to give up Fernanda and his mother, Marissa, will finally be convinced Isabela wasn't right for him, or for her.

With time, 1 & 2 will be eliminated, but this week, he doesn't know that. Isabela says she doesn't expect anything of him (and that is as fake as the pregnancy). Marissa wants a wedding as soon as possible--with Isabela, of course, and to end his relationship with Fernanda, of course.

What will he do? How does he tell Fernanda? What does he tell Fernanda? What is the right thing to do?

This is not the CAMINO we wanted to take, but we will have to follow along and see where it goes. Tune in and see (7 pm).

Weekend Discussion: Crimes of Fashion, 4th Edition 3/25/16

There is so much Stürm und Drang among the denizens of the DF upper crust that it seemed appropriate to understand why these emotional conflicts exist. A few of the women in the midst of this conflict might have made their lives better – in their own minds – with better fashion choices. It was only the sudden death of Monserrat Moret that made Nina Perez de Montenegro the main focus of this latest edition. She is no Ann Grenville in money matters and even now still has much to learn of fashion in the world she hopes to stay in.

Thanks to Soledad Romero-Vargas, our fashion critic here at Vanidades, we bring you these fashion felonies. Enjoy.

Pasión y poder, Episode 111, Thursday, March 24, 2016: Okay, maybe I AM jealous!

It's been a while, hasn't it?  I've just come home from an extended and rather bittersweet visit with family.  We decided to drive this time, and as we made our way towards Boston, I imagined rolling down the window and shouting out to my CarayCaray friends somewhere south of our path – JudyB and Susanlynn and Diana, just to name a few.  (Of course I kept my thoughts to myself.  I'm not sure Mr. Maven would get it, or not entirely.)

I've now caught up with our imaginary PyP crowd I think,  thanks in no small part to the fabulous recaps here (and no thanks at all to the brain trust at Univisión, which is still playing chicken with my television provider, ATT U-Verse*).  I'm especially grateful to Urban Anthropologist for taking on last Thursday and doing her usual impeccable job.

I think this is tonight's episode.  Fingers and toes duly crossed.

*Update – Yay! Univisión and ATT have kissed and made up!  Will any of the fools on the screen do the same?

Arturo is where we left him last night, still fulminating.

Sueño de amor, Ep #13 (3.24.2016) Surprises and secrets and plans, oh my!

I want to make this worthy of your time, so I will be brief.

♪ ♫ Virgen de la paz, te amo, ven a mí, junto a mí
Virgen de la paz te quiero, siempre escuchas tú mi ruego ♪ ♫

Sweet mother of Jesus,
Give us the wisdom of the Holy Spirit so we can own and administer your gifts and know how to multiply them and share them will all the people you put in our paths. Amen

Se consigue más con miel que con hiel
Ricardo has a plan and Pato is the perfect ally. Of course we never get to know anything they tell each other. You can get more with honey than with gall sounds true when you see Pato getting closer to Ricardo than to her biological father, Ernesto de la Colina. Now, regarding the love advice, that's another story, like asking Oprah for a diet that works but who am I to judge? I wouldn't trust Ricardo with a plastic butter knife, but anyway, now that Luca is going away to Járvar, she doesn't want to wait 20 years for him to come back (cough) she will miss him. The distance shouldn't kill the love dream they have. It worked for him. Pato will always have skype (please sponsor us-wink).

After knowing that Neto had something to do with Pato's scholarship, Pera gets very upset, because she doesn't want to owe favors to anybody. Even if that ''anybody'' owes her 17 years of child support. He insists saying that no matter what, they will be together one day as a family.

In the meantime, in the middle of some street in CDMX, a skipping Erasmo hugs Kristela, sealing their relationship.

After Esperanza did the recording gig on Silvana and she almost lost her job, now she sleeps with her one good eye open and has started to play Big Sister checking the closed circuit videos so she can reverse Esperanza's trick with evidence to fire her, assuming that the romance between our protagonists is true, and believe me, it is. Maybe Ricardo can hack this system and watch Pamela closely to know La Sombra's whereabouts.

Another of your blog mom's projects: tshirts of a little guy in a stovepipe hat

I don't, as you know, make any money off this blog, but that doesn't mean I don't try to make money elsewhere! I'm interested in your opinions: could a character this obscure be popular today? Let me know what you think in the comments! Thanks!

I love old pop culture. I've been bringing back to life Samuel Zagat's early 20th century comic strip called "Gimpel Beynish the Matchmaker." Gimpel was wildly beloved by the people of New York City's Lower East Side. Gimpel, that shlemiel, seldom succeeded in anything he did, yet he never got discouraged and his self-esteem was unimpaired. That must have been very heartening for folks struggling to make a buck.

You can see the comics as I clean them up and translate them, here: GimpelBeynish.com and also see two books of his comics which I've published.

Wondering if Gimpel could be loved by the modern world too, I just make a couple Gimpel tshirts. They are only $14.99. Click on either picture to see more colors and styles...

1. An impoverished millionaire turns his pockets inside out

2. Gimpel visits the high seas during World War I, falls in the ocean and is rescued by a submarine. Here is is looking through the periscope!

Thanks!

El Hotel de los Secretos #41, 3/23/16: Detective Dagoberto Suarez, At Your Service!

Isabel is arguing with Jacinto about how upset Diego is going to be with him for letting her enter through the servants’ entrance, when they run into Angela, who’s trying to see where the assailant who attacked her and Andres went. She tells Isabel and Jacinto that someone just tried to kill Andres! She rushes back to Andres with Isa and Jacinto following. They see the blood on the back of Angela’s head where she was bonked, and then they find the filled syringe and the jug used to hit Angela. Isa makes sure no one touches either item, and wraps them up to preserve fingerprints. Andres wakes up and is utterly perplexed to hear that someone tried to kill him.

Isabel goes to Diego’s dark office to call Ayala to tell him about the murder attempt. She’s unpleasantly surprised when the light goes on, and she sees her husband rising like a vampire from the couch. She continues with her call, and takes about five beats too long to remember to mention her married name to Detective Ayala. Diego notices. Ayala, whose hands are tied by Teresa’s judge friend, has to tell Isa that he can’t go out to the hotel, despite the gravity of the situation. He promises to be there first thing in the morning, and asks her to make sure the evidence is kept safe, and Andres not be left alone. He’s sure the attacker won’t try again tonight. But lock the door! Diego scoffs, and wonders who would want to kill a mere waiter. Isa ignores him.
