Lo Que La Vida Me Robo 181, 24 July, 2014 - Check It Out; The Show Was Blah but the Patio Has A Lively Conversation

Robo 181

Introduction

Even a yeoman recapper cannot craft a good recap out of re-crap. At best, we resort to creative fabrication and humor; at worst we devolve into cynical and edgy observations that are often fueled by a tinge of self-loathing.

Please remind me, just WHY did I volunteer for this job?

I can only imagine that what we are viewing in Capitulo 181—sheer telenovela dreck—was not planned, but was a scrambling response to a tragedy that occurred in the life of Angelique Boyer—the unexpected los of her mother. We offer our deepest condolences to the actress.

A few days ago one of our finest recappers, Novela Maven, called for the services of a forensic psychiatrist to assist the not-so-good people of Aguazul. Now that is an interesting idea.

I am no Forensic Psychiatrist, but I play one on TV. Grin.

So, dear friends of the Patio of Lowered Expectations, and those of you who are hunkered down in the Bunker of Ironic Detachment; in order to encourage lively Friday conversation on the Board as we enter Ultimas Semanas, I offer to facilitate a discussion on the following (sort of) Forensic Sociological topic—the context that holds the story of Lo Que La Vida Me Robo.

Story and Context: The Mexican Drug War

The title of “Lo Que La Vida Me Robo” sums up the experience of its’ characters—they are bereft and victimized.  Life isn’t fair; something was stolen from them that was theirs as a natural human birthright. The characters of “Robo’ are all victims of life itself. They are aggrieved, and from this suffering all manner of maladaptive personal responses emerge.

Each of the main characters has suffered major losses, but each of them still starts the story with a lingering belief in ‘justice’, which is absolutely contrary to their personal experience.

Luz Lights the Way To Ana’s Return

Cap 4

Ana and Jennifer have wormed their way into Don Fernando's Veep’s office under the false pretense of being potential investors.  The veep gets a painful crick in his back while getting up out of his chair and Ana’s trying a variety of personal remedies. Don Fernando Lascurain arrives at the office where all is chaos.  DonFer opens the door and Ana has lots of ‘splainin’ to do.

She’s there unannounced per Bruno’s well-meaning instructions to beg forgiveness and ask for her job back since she’s heard that the kids like her and want her back.  DonFer says they do but that he’s not sure he does.  She’s broken his rules which were to be followed to the letter, and he especially didn’t like her walking out the door without saying a word.   Personal problems or whatever, it better not happen again!  He hands her a trial contract for one week’s more as a trial nanny. Ana promises he won’t have another bit of worry over her and goes to shake his hand.

De que otro clavo NO saca otro clavo, no saca otro clavo

Lovers’ Games, Courtship & Heartbreak
Nat enjoys the flashmob of her neighbors line dancing to a song about forgiveness, but her smile doesn’t turn upside down until the man asking for forgiveness actually appears with a bouquet of red roses. She once again says she can’t forgive him, and this time flashes her engagement ring for emphasis and informs Diego of her new commitment to Andrés.

Diego and Al return to Bro Central where Diego pouts, while admiring his new YouTube video, and Al tells him Nat’s reaction is not unusual considering what Diego did to her, and perhaps it’s time to move on. Simona calls, Diego heads to her office to talk business, and then she invites him to a photography art show. Diego picks her up at her fancy apartment, interrupting her 100th viewing of his YouTube video, and while she makes martinis he wonders if she could be the nail that drives out the other nail (clavo que saca otro clavo).

Breaking News! We now know who has been helping Pedro Medina! Lo que la vida me robo #!80 07/23/2014

Sorry for the late post, this is my 2nd recap in as many days and I fell asleep while working on it, my apologies!

The pokey:

When we left off last night Maria was paying a visit to our always beautiful Alejandro, who was sitting in jail for assaulting a police officer, she was dressed as Alejandro's wife but while that was disturbing enough things got worse-way worse when Maria started to pretend to be Montserrat, Alejandro stood in the tiny jail cell- the look on his face said it all, he finally seemed to understand that Maria, his childhood friend and companion had lost her sh*t.

Maria continued with her crazy rant (still pretending to be Montserrat): "I love you so much Alejandro but you have to understand me, Jose Luis is very important to me..."- Alejandro begged her to stop, but like the Energizer Bunny she just kept going and going- "No, I know this is all my fault for loving two men, sometimes I think you would have been happier with Maria, she never shared her heart with anyone and to her you were the only thing that mattered, you were the only thing she lived for. That's why I understand the things she does to hurt me, I took away your love from her, I don't blame her for the things she does, really I don't, like what she did to my truck...I deserved it for being a slut", 'You did that?!" exclaims Alejandro as he calls for the guard- "No, Maria did it!", Alejandro continues to call for help but no one shows up, "anyway I just came to tell you that I love you and I'll be sure to give the kids a kiss when I get home". Alejandro tells her to stay away from his kids as she walks away-the guards never came.

Mi Corazon Es Tuyo #3, July 23, 2014... Ana wins over most of the kids, Fanny discovers her secret and Ana leaves... But the resignation is short lived

Refritos: Ana leaves kitchen with the plate of walnut cookies, and gets the paint on her head.

She takes a deep breath to restrain herself from hurting Fanny. Ana leaves, the kids join hands.

Ana deals with the mouse in her shower. Very bravely she grabs it by tail and tosses it out the window.

Kids are trying to listen out the door but Ana doesn’t come out. Fanny has another prank in her list.

Ana showers all the paint off… ‘why does this happen to me???’

Fanny closes the hot water down in the basement. Ana starts shaking because the water gets cold.

Bruno catches the kids down in the basement. Cecilia comes up with the story that Sebastian needs a shower for his body odor. Bruno sends everyone upstairs.

Ana comes out of the shower. She confronts the kids in the halway ‘why? I did not do anything to you! / we promised we would make your time here miserable! / know something? He who gets angry loses… (Ana goes back in the bedroom) … I am strong!! Yes I can!! (Si se puede!!) … Jennifer calls Ana… ‘these kids are… a bit difficult… they covered me in green paint… /are they beasts? / … one notch higher… I will make these kids pay… even if it’s the last thing I do.

Fanny asks Ana why she has not left… (Ana is dressed back in her black sleeveless zippered dress. ) ‘Not all of us were lucky to be born in a palace… I might not be the most educated, but I am capable and persistent… and I will stay here for a long time!...’

All kids look at each other… Seems Nando and Luz are the ones least in agreement with the pranks.

Lo Nuevo:

Next prank, seems they are putting some kind of powder in Ana’s bed… with remote controls?... ah, there is a camera on the car…

Ana is sleeping, starts scratching like crazy… the twin boys are laughing. Ana runs out of her room and spots the twins… the car is recording her in the halway. Ana runs after the boys. Ana trips on the car and stumbles down the stairs. She ends up unconscious so the boys get scared, run down, and scream that she is dead… Bruno comes out. Bruno checks and is relieved that she is breathing… Nando comes down mad, asks the twins ‘what did you do to her??’ the boys reply ‘It was an accident!!’

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #140 - Wednesday 7/23

De que odio a los escritores, odiar a los escritores

Tonight’s theme is actually borrowed from our wonderful recapper Sara.  The writers continue to vex me but I’m trying to keep things positive.  So, I’m chanting how I hate them throughout the recap.  Forgive me from the outset if this vexes you but it did make me feel a bit better based on the wrong choices these scribes keep making.

Carmen has to comfort Brat, who is depressed because her father didn’t visit her and has left the country.  Since she’s more upset about her potential meal ticket than actual interaction with her father, its hard to have sympathy for her.  Carmen allows Brat to miss her brother’s wedding.

Lo que la vida me robó, ep. 179, Tues 7/22/14: You can never find a forensic psychiatrist when you need one.

We have known three police chiefs in our time in Aguazul -- Loreto, Basurto and Álvarez -- and all have abused their power.  But the present officer-holder may be the most loathsome of the bunch.  Here he is, just happening to stroll by as Montserrat comes out of the church and sees that her van has been trashed, smashed and slashed.  The windows are shattered, the tires are flat and the word ZORRA is painted in large black letters on its side.

¡Qué barbaridad¡ says Chief Álvarez.  "What an outrage!"  (But his smug expression belies his words.)  He'll have his men  investigate the incident, he says.

Montserrat isn't fooled.  She knows very well that he's responsible, and that it's no coincidence that he is there to enjoy her reaction.  (And he is enjoying himself.  He looks like a dog sniffing around its own steaming excrement.)

Qué Pobres, Lunes 7/21/14 (#139): I Wasn't Expecting the Spanish Inquisition

Frida's pregnancy test results are not explicitly revealed, but the look on her face tells us that she is not pleased. After giving Frida a moment to herself on the bench, the nurse approaches with some pamphlets and says that it doesn't look as though Frida's happy. Frida says she's not sure. (First she ate chicken soup, and now she's killed a rabbit! What's next for this lapsed vegetarian?)

AS and MA sit at opposite ends of a very long dinner table. Leo is sitting somewhere in the middle (symbolism much?). Despite the fact that they never used to eat meals together in the before-time, AS is annoyed that Frida is very late. In fact, Frida finally comes home, says it was a long day planning a protest against some kind of genetic engineering or something, and is going straight to bed. Leo decides to take his dinner to his room, too. That leaves MA and AS alone to chat with one another, or so you'd think.

Emi has apparently eaten all he's going to eat tonight, so Lupe sends him to bed. (He has to be reminded to take his plate.) Actually this is more about getting him out of the room so that Lupe and Chuy can confront Tizoc about the positive pregnancy test that wasn't Lupe's or Perla's. Tizoc is very defensive: "What is this, the Inquisition?"

Vilma calls Ahole and demands to see him tomorrow. He doesn't want to go, but she insists. He makes a big deal of having to rearrange his schedule to accommodate her, and jokes that her own schedule is so open lately.

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #138 - Mon 7/21

De que se volvió viral, volvió viral

Diego visits the Cacares House of Horrors to tell Lala (not Hilda) about his plans to help Tiburcio recover, so he can tell everyone what he knows about Alberto's murder.  Lala will be in charge of administering the medication.

Carmen sits Mally down at the fonda to talk to her about the upcoming nuptials and give Mally her blessing.

Lala makes an unnecessary grocery list to get Hilda out of the house.  As Hilda points out, there's plenty of food for the few people left.

Luz comes to the fonda to catch up with Carmen.  And, more importantly, find out if Carmen is going to jump into Paul the Mushroom Man's arms.  Hell no! says Carmen.  She happily tells Luz about Abdul's upcoming wedding and they joke that she really needs to change the name of a certain crab dish on the fonda's menu.

Eleazar enlists Lupita to help him figure out what he said the day he was drugged out of his mind.  La Detective Lupita is on the case!

Chapter 178: Suffer the Children

Police Chief's Office: Refugio stayed behind in the hopes that he could get his old friend to talk to him alone.

Tell me, José Luis, what do you know about Pedro Medina?”

I cannot tell you,” he said. He emphasized each word to show he was out of patience.

Very well, as you wish. How sad it is that you are no longer the same person.”

He walked out, leaving his former friend to think about that. Mad Dog Álvarez looked like it didn't bother him.

Que Pobres tan Ricos #138 18 July 2014. The RP finally say goodbye to Menchaca manor. They get back home but with credit limits / budgets. Plus 2 pregnancy tests, one positive.. whose 'prize' is it anyway?

Refrito: Lupe ‘telling’ MA this will be last time I have to see you.

At Salomon’s, AS and Leo are there. She wants all her stuff back. She will pay him every cent. Salomon asks if this is the ‘dia de los inocentes’ (april fools day?) he will find boxes and newspapers to wrap her ‘trickets’ in LOL! Leo wants to excuse himself, but she won’t let him go. She says you will have time to say goodbye to your cheeky friend. (Cacheton) AS says Leo should go back to school in NY.

Saul and MA at fonda. MA tells Saul he will continue pursuing the juices business, but he will NEVER go back to the Editorial business. Leo comes in. wants MA to go get Frida, she is crying in bathroom, according to Leo she will be missing La Nopalera. She is in bathroom checking her pregnancy test. (was that positive? I missed it.)

At kitchen, AS, as a grateful gesture, wants to leave Carm and Lupe her culinary recipes book/scrapbook. Beef Stroganoff, minestrone, tortellinis (love the way Carm pronounced it as ‘y’). AS recommends they use cognac to elevate the taste of dishes. Use the best ingredients always. Chuy thanks her for all the advice. Lupe also thanks her. AS repeats that it is an act of charity now that she is leaving. AS says later will send someone to pick up their belongings.

It is Lupe’s turn to lock herself in bathroom to use a pregnancy test.

At fonda, Chuy is saying farewell to AS and Leo. Leo says thank you very much, good luck and ‘todo cool’. Perla is happy to see them go. MA says even through all we got through, all these months have been the best part of his life. MA says will be watching for them. Chuy says thanks but better keep your distance. MA wants them to know they can count on him for ANYTHING. One last ‘sunshine’ sharing embrace. MA whispers to Carm that he is leaving, thank you for all the support. She will not stop trying to vow for him with Lupita. AS has waited enough, urges MA to wrap it up. Finally will say goodbye to La Nopalera. Arrivederci!!

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #136/137- Friday 7/18

De que todavía vive, todavía vive

WARNING: Tonight's episode was a masterpiece of apropos of nothing. It was all over the place and I find those kinds of episodes difficult to focus on.

The First Hour
Was really, really slow.
  • Rodrigo tried to make a transfer to his Cayman Island account. He gets the blue screen of death mid transaction. He confirms with the bank that the transaction was completed and takes the laptop to the IT guy.
  • A drugged Eleazar  sings and tells Carmen he wants to make a baby with her. She calls the doctor. When Eleazar wakes up from the injection the doctor gave him, he tells Carmen he and Kimberly are kaput. Carmen tells him to come see her and act just like he did while on drugs. We are subjected to time wasting scenes in which Alonso tries to hypnotize El so he can remember what he did under the influence.

Pobres 7/16: EmiliAhole

The little twerp is now in full EmiliAhole mode. He's unrepentant for being a dick and saying awful things. Tizoc and Chuy look on in dismay.

Ana Sofia gives Leo some crap about the plebian juice business and asks for cash for a cab. She claims all the money he's given her has gone to the loan shark who helped pay for the wedding. Leo: don't remind me of that humiluqui momento de mi viduqi! But he gives her the cash.

Cute scene w/ Minerva and her mom trying to confront Ahole as he plays with his corn dog.

Ana Sofia shows up at Mini's place, looking for Ahole. The ladies mock her. Barbs are traded. She gets through to talk to Alejo, who confirms that Mike has his money back. More barbs.

Guendy flirts w/ Saul hardcore. She calls him Whitey. They wind up making out and leave the bar together.

Sadly, Don Chuy has been brought to tears by the cruelties of his grandson. He reminisces on the most painful defeats of his wrestling career, none of which hurt as much as this. Aww I really, really hope we see the kid get some comeuppance in this show.

Returning from her fact-finding mission, Ana Sofia hops out of her cab and refuses to pay for it. Yet again, Diego winds up paying. Leo and Frida have been worried sick - where have you been, mom? Drinking? AA meeting? She says, don't even speak to me of AA. I've been so anxious I'm liable to drink my parisian perfumes.

Doña Matty wants Chuy to infiltrate her former office and retrieve a phone that has contact info of a sympathetic doctor Miranda who could help get her out from under Ahole's conservatorship.

Mike calls Lupe. "I know you don't believe me [because you saw me naked in bed with my ex]... many would feel the same in your shoes." Understatement?

Yes, Frida is obviously pregnant. Because in the world of trope-y tv no one who isn't pregnant ever eats a midnight snack.

Lupe learns that Tizoc not only got his record deal as a result of dealing with the devil (Ahole), but also signed the contract without reading it. Menso.

Ana Sofia, armed with her new knowledge, goes on a binge-y shopping spree, possibly drunk too. That fur coat and hat are really going to be practical, am I right? Anyway, she declares that she won't be paying. The shopkeepers can call the cops or just make her son pay for them. I'm pretty sure any ritzy establishment knows better than to make deals like this. But the dummies go for it.

Mike comes rushing to the scene to find his infantile mom in the shop with some cops. She throws a tantrum when he refuses to pay, claiming he doesn't have the money. She starts tearing and stomping on the expensive stuff when he suggests she return it. He breaks down and pays only when the police get out the handcuffs. Later, at home, she tells the fam about the money.

Ahole is a menacing, abusive dick to his employee who merely asked him if she should let Lupe in. From now on, anyone in that family can get in without asking (convenient for later). Lupe comes in, tells him to leave her family alone, and he reveals his plan: marry me or I'll ruin your family. I've got Mike, Tizoc, your son, your sister, practically everybody by the balls. How romantic!

Meanwhile, Don Chuy gets a freebie on his infiltration of the office because the receptionist has just been ordered to let Lupe's family in without question, but he first stops by to eavesdrop on Ahole's blackmail. Enraged, he goes full Luchador and beats the crap out of the bastard. Unfortunately, this means that Ahole now has Don Chuy by the balls, too.

Thanks for reading guys, please discuss and fill in on the stuff I missed!

Lo Que La Vida Me Robó #176, 7/16/14: Adolfo proposes; Pedro disposes--or at least tries a few things to exact vengeance.

Red Sky at Morning, Melodrama Warning!

For us in Viewerville it's been mere 24 hours since the events of Capitulo 175, but for our friends in that anomaly of space-time that is Agua Azul, México, a whole year has passed since just last night! During that year, some of them seem to have been given a reprieve from the drama and had a much-deserved spate of fairly ordinary life off-screen; others have continued on their various downward spirals.  But it looks like the storm clouds of crazy are gathering and our Aguazuleños are now worthy of filming again.   Let's check in on as many of them as we can:

In Her Beautiful House by the Sea

Still beautiful Montserrat is sitting in the living room with her adorable and well-behaved children, Laurito and Romina.  We learn that Romina has just begun to walk and that if Laurito were a US citizen he would be a firm supporter of Title IX as he is impatient to be able to play fútbol with her.   The doorbell rings.  In bursts José-Luis still sporting his sport coat and bright T-shirt look, eager to see his little girl.  It's worth noting that she begins crying as soon as he takes her from Montserrat.

Very savvy toddler who knows a Galán B when she sees one

Lo Que la Vida me Robo 175 07/15/2014: Look at what I can do with this gun ma'

Recap fully done!

A new baby has been born, sadly her daddy is a nut job:

At the hacienda everyone rejoices at the birth of a new baby, both baby and mother are healthy and plans are made for both to make a trip back to Agua Azul for a check up. Alejandro Almonte, who is beautiful-but sadly not very bright, tries to reassure his wife by telling her that he will accept the baby as if she were his own, heck, he even says that although it is not possible he would love for the baby to be named Alejandra.

Jose Luis, the baby daddy just happens to walk in right at the moment and he is not a happy camper, he goes off on Alejandro and Montserrat asking them what's wrong with them, how dare they try and name the baby without his input? She is his daughter and he will name her! I kinda want to suggest that they toss a coin and whoever wins gets to name her, problem solved!

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #132/133- Tuesday 7/15

De que el amor está muerto, está muerto
The following recap has been composed under extreme emotional distress. It will be out of order and in my usual squirrely way.

I still think they are editing the parts where everyone drops acid or smokes crack or otherwise suffers some psychotic break. I have no other explanation for the absolutely out-of-chartacter actions I witnessed tonight.

The Investigation
The writers have decided we need a dose of realism. Morales is doing the investigation thing and questioning Hilda. Tiburcio sits in the background and makes moaning sounds. Hilda lets Morales search the garden. Vicente receives a call from his friend Rodolfo the procurador. Morales is *thisclose* to finding the wrench when Vicente throws him off the property for searching without a warrant.

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #130/131- Mon 7/14

De que no hay pruebas, no hay pruebas

Brigitte is relieved to hear from Alonso that Alberto visited Rodrigo, but things didn't seem to "get very far" between them.  She wants him to call Al's parents, but Alonso doesn't want to worry them if he doesn't need to.  Brigitte decides she doesn't want to wait alone and calls Carmen, but Carmen is busy waiting for Natalia to come home.  "Natalia, Natalia, Natalia!" whines Brigitte yet again.  Hey, there you are, Brat…wondered where you'd gotten to!  Carmen says Natalia's had a rough day, what with finding out who her "real" parents are.  Brigitte and Lupita are both surprised to hear this.

Lupita goes to tell Paolo and drags him out to the living room so they can interrogate Carmen.

Carmen tells Brigitte who Natalia's parents are.  Brigitte says "Why's she upset, then?  This is like winning the lottery!"  Carmen gets tired of Brat's attitude, so Brat gives her some more, saying of course she's having a worse day that Nat.  Lupita wonders how Tad is Nat's father if he didn't, um, have anything to do with Carmen.  Carmen gives them the deets.  Paolo figures Tad and Irene must be thrilled to have found her.

Padre Juancho finishes giving her the story and apologizes on behalf of…pretty much everybody who knew…for not being able to find the right time to tell her.  PJ suggests she be thankful for having 3 awesome parents and just treat Irene with the same affection she always has.

Carmen keeps telling Paolo and Lupita about the great Telling Nat debacle.  Irene shows up and  Paolo and Lupita welcome Irene to the family.  PJ calls Carmen and tells her Nat listened to his explanations and seemed calmer.

Qué Pobres, Lunes 7/14/14 (#135): The Perils of Post-Liberation Stress

I feel badly about not including an earworm on Thursday's recap as Madelaine usually does, so here is one for this episode: Dizzy, in honor of Mati, Perla, and Lupe.

The Great Escape
Grandma Mati is cheery and alert in Tomas's spare room. She thanks Tom and Chuy for finding her when she was "this close" to being lost. She was dizzy and confused and couldn't remember anything, but Chuy says it was actually her bad memory that saved her, because...

Chapter 174: Eye of the Storm

Almonte Hacienda: Victor Hernandez had always been a romantic. He had begun his courtship of the beautiful Nadia Argüelles with a cart full of flowers on the estate of his best friend. In the same place he brought her a chamber orchestra for the proposal. She was delighted. Their little daughter watched them. She smiled at her parents' happiness. They had no idea what would shortly be waiting for them.

TELEMUNDO Y MÁS -- Reina de Corazones: week of July 14, 2014

Here is a separate page -- posted  a day early -- just for conversations about Reina de Corazones.

Even though a lot of people are watching and commenting, no one, as yet, has volunteered to recap on a regular basis.  Mauricio and Sara stepped up to help in the first week, and I did a couple of minicaps too.  For week two, I've agreed to write a brief summary of Monday's episode; Sara has volunteered to recap Wednesday and Friday.

Is anyone interested in writing a brief recap of Tuesday's or Thursday's episode this week?

Is anyone interested in recapping this one regularly?

Folks, if no one volunteers, we'll just have comments.  It's up to you!

Have a wonderful week!

TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE -- El Señor de los Cielos II, En Otra Piel, et cetera, week of July 14, 2014

As I am writing this, I see that we reached 200 comments by Sunday evening.  (We haven't done that in a while!)  Anyway, I decided to post early (Sunday night instead of Monday) and to give  Reina de Corazones its own page this week.  If the high volume of comments continues, then Jean and I  can keep the separate pages going.

While it was kind of nice to have our conversations crossing each other and for us to read over each other's shoulders on one page, at a certain point it becomes unwieldy. It began to feel as if Cielos and En Otra Piel were being drowned out.

So this is the new page for Cielos, En Otra Piel and any other Telemundo or Unimás show you feel like discussing.

Reina de Corazones comments and mini-recaps will be on a separate page.

Have a great week!

De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero #128 & 129, 7/11/2014

Both Part 1 and Part 2 are now up!!

De Que Esta Comedia Se Volvio Tragedia, Se Volvio Tragedia

Recap by LatinaInMD

Part One

These comedy writers played a dirty trick on us.  Months and months of the comedy train going in circles and just when we thought the plot was heading somewhere interesting…wham…they throw a wrench in it…literally!!!!

We begin with a quick re-hash - in no particular order:  Diego continues to whine about Natalia’s infidelity, first to his “shrimpy shrink” friend and then to his dear aunt Irene, both of whom try to reason with him; alas, he jumps off the comedy train and skips town, not a moment too soon before the comedy train derails.  In the meantime, Natalia drowns her sorrows in her coffee.  In another part of town, Alberto (until now a mere sideshow in the Brigitte-Rod-Alberto “love triangle”) suddenly has plans for a future (ah, the irony!!!) with Bri, despite the countless clues she’s given him that she could care less.  Let’s start off with a weekend meal to introduce your whole family to my parents while they are in town, he says.  All she cares about is what HIS parents will think about HER family, but she appears genuinely touched when Alberto reminds her she should be proud of her family.

Natalia and her fake mama Carmen agree it’s best for her to quit her job, and she heads to Caprico to do just that.  A dapper-looking Andres (who has just come back into town) shows up at Caprico with a gorgeous bouquet of red roses, ready to grovel some more for a little bit of her love.  But she is not there yet, so he leaves the bouquet for her and departs.  Brigitte shows up at work first and just as she starts admiring the roses, grumpy grandpa shows up and she has to bear his groans and moans about all the employees who never bother to show up on time.  He’s got a point there!!!  She offers to help, but he grunts that the only thing she can do for him is locate Natalia…stat!!!  Brigitte reaches for her phone in her purse and…ooops!!!....she realizes she left it in Alberto’s car.

Lo que la vida me robó, ep. 173, Fri. 7/11/14: We'll see our grandchildren building castles in the sand...Kayn aynhoreh.*

[Kayn aynhoreh is Yiddish and it means something like "No evil eye!"  It's what you say when you've been lucky and you want to ward off envious spirits.]

Part One:  The Ogre is forced to set the Princess free.

The dark brooding ogre pounds on the door and orders the princess to let him in.  "You're going to have to live the rest of your life with the man you hate.  Open the door!"

Within the chamber, the lovely princess weeps.

The handsome prince runs to the home of Faithful Macario, and he arms himself with a pistol.  He is prepared to kill the ogre and rescue the woman he loves.  Both Macario's good woman Dominga and the old priest Anselmo try to dissuade the prince.  But the prince knows what he must do, and he will not be stopped.

Que Pobres tan Ricos #134 A-hole sues Chuy about the Menchaca house. Emiliano continues to act A-holish. Saul tries to get MA to retake his old richy rich life... Chuy's mystery is revealed!! MAAAATIII!! MAAAATIII!!!

Refrito: MA seeing a different woman in wheelchair.

Lupe tells A-hole she’s not afraid of him. He asks if she will bring a wrestler to fight him. Lupe says she is enough on her own to fight with nails and teeth for her son. A-hole changes strategy and gets pleading, asks her to come be a family with him and Emiliano. Lupe is confused at his change of statement. A-hole tries to convince her that she is and will always be the most important for Emiliano. You have nothing to lose.

MA yelling at the staff at the senior center. The manager says he was given paperwork for the woman as Matilde widow of RP… MA is still outraged.

Saul is more calm and asks them who brought Mati in. Was it ARP? Nurse says ARP sent Mati, but the one that brought her was a nurse that used to work for us(the senior home) but quit recently.

Now A-hole is trying to make Lupe believe that she is unstable temper-wise… A-hole reminds Lupe that the school director is witness to Lupe losing her cool in front of Emiliano. (come on Lupe! Wake up and smell the rat!!) Emiliano comes over and is all lovey-dovey with A-hole. Lupe is just frozen there… she even lets Emiliano go alone with A-hole.(she is THAT shocked... about how well these two get together?).

At Fonda, AS is still whinning with herself about having come back to live in the 'cuchitril'. Leo and Frida outside the penthouse door are coaching each other to calm down before they walk in. Leo gives AS two options… we either 1) stay here or 2) we go to the shelter of the indigents(basically homeless shelter).
AS wants booze. Leo and Frida won’t give her any. Leo takes DaVinci on his arm and asks AS to breathe. AS takes DaVinci back and tells DaVinci that he is the only one that understands her. (I missed the detail that Leo told DaVinci that he needed to raise his hand/leg to speak LOL! thanks forum friends!)

MA and Saul out on the street, MA is really ansi, he has to find out NOW where abuela is.

At Fonda, Chuy does not like seeing Lupe so down in spirits. Lupe says lets talk about the finances… we have a lot of expenses and have to figure out where to get more moolah. She tells Tizoc he needs to go get a job and help out. Tizoc says he is only good for ‘the cantata’. Emiliano comes down. Lupe asks him what is up. Emiliano says ‘I am fed up with eating the same thing every day. Can’t we eat something different?’ Lupe is not liking at all seeing Emiliano talk like this, so asks him 'what do you prefer? To eat or not to eat?'

Weekend Discussion: Karmageddon in Aguazul (Lo Que la Vida Me Robo)

It's that time again, amigos! Although this is a little early, the number of bad guys in this tale is such that we already see the villains turning on each other. Let's cut loose now and dish about what should happen to the evil ones in our story. As previously, we should think about it both ways:
  1. What do you think the writers will do to them?
  2. What do you think should happen to them?
Let's start with their queen and work our way down:

Lo Que La Vida Me Robo 172 - 10 July, 2014 - Stuck On Replay: Another Of Maria’s Plots Bites The Dust

It Looks Like Jose Luis  Will Allow Montserrat To Leave—Maybe
Jose Luis wants to know if Montserrat would forgive a betrayal from Alejandro. Whatever happens, he will be there waiting. Montserrat goes to pack her bags. Tomorrow she will leave the house.

I’ll Just Take The Houses and Lands; Thanks
Over at the judge’s chambers, Father Anselmo, the judge and Alejandro meet. The judge tells Padre that he trusts him completely but his declaration is too late. Father Anselmo emphatically retorts that it is never late to correct an injustice. But the judge clarifies that the tests run on the document prove forever and anon that Alejandro is the only true heir of Benjamin Almonte. Padre’s declaration does not clear Alejandro because he is already proven to be the rightful Almonte heir. As of this moment he has recovered his name, Alejandro Almonte Dominguez and all that goes with it. Congratulations!

Father Anselmo praises God for being very just. Despite all that has happened nothing has dimmed his faith. Padre encourages Alejandro and hopes he has learned from his previous errors.

Alejandro tells the Father that he is very fortunate. Not only is he recovering his name, but he is also recovering his family.

The Judge tells them that his decision is absolutely irrevocable but that it might take a while for Alejandro to recover everything. But Alejandro is way ahead of everyone else. He says that Fabiola has transferred ALL of the money to another person. He doesn’t want a penny of the money anyway. Anselmo is appalled by yet another miscarriage of justice, and he asks,

“Who ended up with the money?”
“Graciela Mendoza,” answers Alejandro.

The Judge recognizes her name as the woman who formerly perjured herself in the matter of Don Benjamin’s will. Padre Anselmo wants to know – How did that happen?

Qué Pobres, Jueves 7/10/14 (#133): Carrots and Sticks

Hola, amigs. I am filling in for Madelaine this evening.

So MA makes his triumphant return to the fonda, and Lupita greets him with a punch in the face. MA has no idea why, but he tries to apologize anyway, and he even mentions the letter (that he doesn't know Lupita never got) but Lupe is too angry to think about it.

MA says he apologized to Mini too, and she took it a lot better than Lupe is, "and then something weird happened." Again, Lupe is too angry to focus on the "something weird" and thinks "apology" is a strange way to describe being naked in bed with Minerva. (Perla and Carmelita are listening at the door, by the way.)

MA doesn't know what Lupe is talking about and says "wow, after all this time I would have thought you'd know me better than that" and Lupe replies sarcastically "you're right about that!" She gives back his swanky hand-crafted upcycled PVC engagement ring, but don't worry! Her finger won't be naked very long!

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #126 & 127, 7/10/14

De que terminaron para siempre, terminaron para siempre (o así se dicen)

The Good
Mara’s mom is DEAD!!! Yay! If she made peace with Mara before she kicked the bucket, we never see it. I’m guessing she went out like the bitch she was, despite what Padre says about her repenting. At the funeral home, some of her equally witchy church lady friends talk about Mara and Paolo when they go off to get coffee, and vow to separate them as a sign of respect to Mara’s mom. Carmen overhears, and in a very firm, but polite way tells them that Paolo is her son, stop talking behind people’s backs, Mara’s mom is now with God (just where she needs to be), and SHE and her family will be taking care of Mara now, so back off bitches! The next day, Mara returns to her mom’s apartment (decked out in God and Jesus bling) with Paolo, and lights candles next to the box of her mom’s ashes. She cries about being all alone now, and Paolo tells her she’s not alone. She has him!

La Jaiba suffers almost her whole bus ride listening to a babbling nun sitting next to her. She’s glad to see the back end of the nun when she gets off the bus, but then gets a new seatmate in the form of a very large man. She celebrates when she finally gets home to Veracruz—she’ll be able to start over with the money she made from the sale of La Jaiba Loca since she sold it above the real value. She opens her suitcase, looking for her money, and finds…bibles, crosses, and black nun’s clothes. She remembers back to the gabby nun carelessly grabbing a suitcase, HER suitcase, from the overhead compartment as she got off the bus and started her missionary journey to far off lands. I bet those poor kids in Africa will be grateful for the money. Ha! It’s back to hooking on the streets for Jaiba.

The return Lo que LA Vida me robo 171 07/09/2014

I hope you all had plenty of tissues on hand tonight because this episode brought on the feels! I swear ninjas broke into my house and started to cut up onions-and my eyes got all moist...that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Now on to the recap, enjoy!

Dude,our mom is a scumbag:

Fabiola, our resident drunk is now behind bars, how she has managed to survive without her wine is anyone's guess, she tells her new found siblings that Graciela is a big fake, everything about her is a lie, including her name. She explains that Amalia told her the truth about Graciela, she was born in poverty to a seamstress and her real name is Gaudencia! She also explains that she got tricked into transferring all her money to one of her mothers accounts only to be ditched. Alejandro and Montserrat feel for her-and Alejandro offers to get her a lawyer to help reduce the time she spends in prison but he makes it clear that he can not forgive her and he tells her that she needs to pay for the fraud she committed and for stealing seven years of his life.

Pobres, Wednesday: World-cup shunting claims another victim

Hi guys, the game was wrapping up when I left home last night, so I assumed my extra hour of recording time would be enough to catch our show. Unfortunately it went way late and I only captured the first 15 minutes!

I couldn't find recordings of the episode in the usual places online, so I'll just do what I can with what i've got!

Lupita is confused - where's her boyfriend? The family attempts to comfort her. Leo also wonders where he is, wants to call the policuqui, but Saul says they gotta wait 24 hours.

HAHAHA Mini, her mom, and Ahole struggling to heave Mike into the bed. Ahole wants the discovery to seem natural and insults the ladies (he calls them plásticas).

Emiliano continues to be a little twerp. Lupe's mom wants her to chill out and drink her tea.

Don Chuy is caught on a mysterious mission (is he going to get booze for AS or something)?

At the hospital (AS got put there for drinking), Leo says bye to Diego who has been there with him all night for Leo (what a mensch, she's always been so awful to him). Diego leaves to go teach futbol.

Ahole shows up to try to drive Lupita and Emiliano, presumably to take the kid to school and then just "happen" to discover Mike w/ Mini.

Saul has clearly sold himself out, and he goes whole-hog into a product placement for cellphones so noxious I couldn't even make out what the pretense was. They even play that tinkly commercial music in the background. Uniphone?

Here's the worst thing I saw tonight... Ana Sofia tells her son that she'll only consider getting better and going to AA if he breaks up with the futbolista. SO bad. Yuk yuk yuk.

Anybody who stuck with the show till the end (it must have been midnight or later), please fill us in with what else happened. Thanks!!!!!!!

Mi Corazón es Tuyo (My Heart is Yours) - Main Characters

Ana (Silvia Navarro)

is in a job she despises, and she has just lost the home she struggled to own… she knows she has to “start over”…

On account of some clerical error at an employment agency, Ana finds herself applying for the job of “nanny” to a wealthy widower, Fernando Lascuraín, with seven difficult children. Somehow, without credentials and/or a cultured background, Ana manages to charm the children and make them show signs of beginning to recover from the loss of their mother.

Meanwhile, Fernando, their father pursues a woman with a suitable pedigree, but it becomes increasingly obvious that he smitten with Ana, and Ana is smitten with him!

Fernando Lascurain (Jorge Salinas)

appreciates order and discipline.  He is father of seven kids and has been a widower for a year now.  He doesn't drink, smoke, or otherwise enjoy the finer things in life..... As a businessman, he is widely respected, especially since he heads a finance company.  He's totally buried himself in his work, thinking to provide his kids  with the very best in life, but has actually neglected giving them what they need most: his love and his affection.  Ana's arrival will have a great impact on him as it will awaken his passion for life, now gone since the death of his wife.

Isabela Vázquez de Castro (Mayrín Villanueva)

is the object of Fernando's affections, but his kids don't want her around.  She's a sophisticated executive with a number of Masters' Degrees from numerous universities around the world.  She's extremely beautiful and knows it.  Her gain, everybody else's loss.....  The woman is calculating and manipulative and could care less who she steps on to get what she wants--and she wants Fernando.....along with the status and life of unbounded luxury that being Sra. Lascurain offers.     However, his kids care for Ana more.

Diego Lascurain (Pablo Montero) is Fernando's brother and polar opposite.  He lacks commitment, has lots of charm and loves to party.

Jennifer (Fabiola Campomanes) is Ana's crass best friend and a waitress at Club Chicago.

Yolanda (Carmen Salinas)

Johnny (Adrián Uribe) is Ana's current, loser boyfriend and her manager.

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #124/125- Wed 7/9

De que los hombres no tienen ni idea, no tienen ni idea

Hola, amigas/os.  Again I want to thank Kat for taking my place this past month.  I just got in from being out this evening but wanted to leave a space for you all to chat among yourselves while I cook up this recap.

The Brat yells at Natalia for “rescuing” her from a really shady doc.  (Earlier a poor young woman tells the doctor her bleeding hasn’t stopped and he says its normal.  That wasn’t a big enough sign for Brat but often clueless Karina was horrified.)  She forbids Nat to tell anyone about this and guess who drives up?  Of course, its Diego.

Que pobres tan ricos July 8: Some cry and drink, one dances, one goes to jail in pink pajamas, and one has a bottle of chloroform and knows how to use it...

Poor Wilma in her fuzzy pink jammies is woken by the police who take her away in chains, accusing her of fraud and delinquent associations.

Don Chuy and Ana Sofia are getting so drunk. She tells him: My father was an important Italian businessman, he seduced one of his maids and I was born. He gave me his name and took me to live with him. It wasn't a bad childhood, but I was always ashamed of my past, of the mother I never knew and didn't want to know. Please don't judge me harshly, and promise on what you hold most sacred to keep my secret."

Lo que la vida me robó, ep. 170, Tues. 7/8/14: Ezequiel Basurto is one lucky bastard. So far.

The banner on the building promises Paz y Espiritu -- Peace and Spirit.

In this dive, alas, the peace is pharmacologically-induced.  As for the spirit, it's strictly BYOB (Bring your own Bible).

Padre Anselmo adds to the cache of pills under his mattress, then sits down heavily, a portrait of misery and exhaustion.  He looks ancient.  How long, we wonder, has he been fooling his captors?

The Mendoza Mansion glows rosy in the night.
Carlota, Montserrat and Alejandro sit within the beautiful family home and try to make sense of Ezequiel Basurto's strategic revelation.

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #122/123- Tues 7/8

The recap is not happening. I just discovered that despite the red blinking light, my DVR was NOT recording and I don't have anything to recap. None of my scheduled recordings are recording. I've just spent the last 30 minutes on the phone with these people and I am mad as a hornet. And I have to wait until MOnday to get a tech out here because we are going out of town tomorrow.

Changing cable providers was supposed to solve these kinds of frustrations.

Discuss. I'm going to try and meditate or something. It's just TV, right?

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #120/121- Mon 7/7

De que pasaron la noche juntos, pasaron la noche juntos!

I must have been ignoring Kimberly on Friday, because I remembered her showing up at lunch, but I did not remember her telling the Boss that she would be marrying El soon, nor the Boss inviting himself to be their witness for the wedding.  Awkward.  But that's where the refrito starts in, followed by Brat ignoring Rod's calls and trying to talk herself out of being pregnant; Carmen telling Paolo and Angela that Big Abdul was going to free Abdul from his sex-induced stupidity; Mally's dine-and-dash; and Brat sobbing over luxury apartments she'll never have.

On to today…

Irene, Diego, and Natalia arrive at Casa Tad for dinner.  Elena happily announces that Tad's in his studio…painting!  Irene goes to check on him, but he won't show her what it's working on.  She giddily announces that Nat is THEIRS, as confirmed by the DNA test results.  On a less-happy note, she confronted Vicente already and he denied any wrongdoing, as usual.  Tad vows to make him pay, but he's got a tight deadline to accomplish that.  Irene calms him down, but she still wants to take her sweet time telling Natalia that she's their daughter.  Tad agrees to put his dreams of seeing Vicente behind bars on hold for the sake of Nat's delicate sensibilities.

Mara's mom is a crappy patient.  Even the nurse tells Mami Dearest to back the hell off and let her tired daughter get five minutes of rest.  Mami Dearest accuses Mara of abandoning her.

Qué Pobres, Lunes 7/7/14 (#130): The TAY* of the Hurricane

*It's pronounced "tie"

It's the pause in the middle of the storm that makes you think everything's back to normal and it's safe to go outside. Then the wind whips up again and you get zapped by a loose power line.

Here is the condensed version. Discuss:

- Even though Lupita claims to be disappointed in MA, Carmelita notices she hasn't taken off her ring yet. Lupita gives her blessing to Carmelita's relationship with Chuy.

- Gwendy figures out that Nepo is embarrassed to be seen with her in public, especially around the Menchacas, because he doesn't think she's as classy as Lupita. She fights with him for being a coward and goes home in tears.

- Chuy picks up Carmelita for their date, but they are so awkward and nervous that it's almost a relief when Gwendy shows up distraught before they can leave Carm's place. Chuy goes home alone, and Carmelita tries to comfort Gwendy.

- We catch a glimpse of Mini's father in a large portrait on the wall. I'm sure there's a joke there. Is this an actor we should recognize? A relative of one of the actors? The director?

TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE -- El Señor de los Cielos 2, En Otra Piel, and TA DA! Reina de Corazones, week of July 7, 2014

Reina de Corazones starts tonight (Monday) at 8E/7C on Telemundo, and I have to say it looks like fun.  Eugenio Siller and Paola Núñez are the protagonistas, and -- deliciously -- Juan Soler and Catherine Siachoque are the main villains.    Enrique Iglesias sings the theme song, Bailando.

Here's a little bit about the story:

Reina (Paola Núñez) is a young dressmaker with a horror of a stepmother (Rosalinda Rodriguez, who owns this kind of role) and a jealous half sister.  Nicolás (Eugenio Siller) is alone in the world.  He earns a living parking cars, but he also knows his way around a poker table.  The two meet at the wedding of former porn star, Estefanía (Catherine Siachoque), a millionaire casino owner and soon to be a widow.   For Reina and Nicolás, it is love at first sight.

They decide to get married secretly in Las Vegas. But tragedy and malice (i.e. Victor and Estefanía) conspire to separate them.

Juan Soler in a World of Dazzle and Deception, Intrigue, Dizzying Wealth, High Fashion, Juan Soler amid Dirty Money and Dirty Diamonds, Dangerous Men and Fast Women, a World of Casinos and High Rollers, CIA Spies, Amnesia, Juan Soler, Mysterious Threats lurking in bushes, and lots and lots of Sexy, Pretty People -- what's not to like?  (Oh and did I mention Juan Soler?)

Note: There is a more extensive, although spoilerish and weirdly incoherent sinopsis on the Telemundo website.

Cast Descriptions based on information gleaned from the Telemundo website:

Paola Núñez is Reina Ortíz (Reina de Corazones/Queen of Hearts), a bright and creative young woman and a dreamer at heart who longs to meet her Prince Charming.  She's not hard on the eyes either (but you already guessed that, right?)

Eugenio Siller is Nicolás Núñez.  When he meets Reina, it is love at first sight.

Juan Soler is Victor de Rosas (El Halcón Negro/The Black Falcon).  He wears a mask of respectability.  In fact, his wealth and power and prestige are built on dirty dealings.  He has no moral limits.  None!

Catherine Siachoque is Estefania Pérez Hidalgo (Reina de Diamantes/Queen of Diamonds), a seductress and a woman addicted to diamonds.  She would do anything to win Nicolás's love.

Laura Flores is Agent Sara Smith (Reina de Picas/Queen of Spades), the head of the CIA.  Behind her stern facade, she hides a sad past.

Carlos Ferro is Lázaro Leiva, a man who has had a hard life and will soon come to know true love.

Gabriel Coronel is Francisco "Frank" Marino, an agent in the CIA.  He is the go-to guy for the toughest missions.

Geraldine Galván is Greta de Rosas, a young woman who lives like a princess until life teaches her a hard lesson.

Wanda D'Isidro is Susanna Santillán, a distinguished socialite and the ex-wife of Victor de Rosas.

Pablo Azar is Juan José "Juanjo" García, a Mexican immigrant who wants to better himself.  He adores women.

Paulo Quevedo is Isidro Castillo, a hitman who works for Victor de Rosas.

Lo que la vida me robó, ep. 168, Friday, 7/4/14: What's in a name?

Many of you, I imagine, have stepped away from the Patio to celebrate this most precious of American holidays -- I like to think of you at your parties and picnics and parades, grilling your tofu hotdogs, gasping in delight at the local fireworks display.  (That fewer than usual will be reading this recap is a thought I find oddly liberating.  Hm?)  A safe and happy 4th of July to everyone at every table on and off the Patio!

And a gentle reminder:  NO SPOILERS, PLEASE!  If something hasn't happened on the version aired in the United States, we don't discuss it here.  Let's allow ourselves the small pleasure of being surprised at twists and turns of the plot.  Thanks, everyone!

The monsters of entitlement have taken over Aguazul.  They are heartless and soulless and their only thought is to protect themselves and what they believe they have coming to them.

Graciela is entitled to the late Benjamín Almonte's money -- or so she tells herself.

Que Pobres tan Ricos #129 Happy 4th of July!! ... MA dances for joy in anticipation of his freedom... A-hole and Mini prepare the final act in their deception of Lupe

MA and Saul: MA worried about what Lupe heard/saw. Saul says don’t worry about anything right now than the trial result. Guess who is coming to declare in your favor? The Pope!... nope, Bambi’s girl. So focus… and stay up-spirits.

Frida trying to convince Lupe that Mini was just lying her 10 min abs off. Lupe says put yourself in my spot. I can forgive much except for lies.. She said much true, and things she should not know about. So The thorn is here in my chest. Maybe one day I will be able to forgive. I don’t get it, even less each day. Frida asks if she will continue going to the trial. Doubt it. With Emiliano suspended, I can’t leave him here all day. (excuses… excuses…)

Tizoc at studio coming up with a new song out of his underpit… The studio guys don’t like how he is singing it, ‘sing it as we told you’… They change the tempo to a bit new disco, and they like it more, Tizoc not so much.

Next day at trial, Lupe did not come, MA noticed. Saul calls Bambi’s girl to declare.

At fonda, AS continues to drink… Carm takes the glass right off her hands and dumps the wine into the food… Chuy enjoying the show. Lupe is trying to get Emiliano to eat… but he barely responds… this kid needs a shakin’ so bad… as soon as she leaves the room, he calls his daddy… (sigh!) I am so glad there is only a few weeks left of this, I am getting tired of A-hole’s smiles and smirks of satisfaction as he manipulates his own son and uses him to get his way… GRRRR!!!...

Trial continues, MA a bit down since Lupe won’t show up. Night, next day… Gwendy still working on Nepo, wants to make amends. Kisses galore… Trofeo watches from out the window… more kisses.

Frida at school… the guys ‘open the way for her’… she does not appreciate it at all. Walks on.

Judge asks Saul if there is any other document to present for the defense. No, that’s it. Another day Lupe didn’t show up. MA depressed (I bet he could care less now if the veredict is guilty, he is down for the count already).

Back at fonda, Leo predicts that MA will be declared innocent.. Frida not so optimistic. Lupe is quiet. Perla is making fun of MA. Tizoc rants at her. Chuy asks AS if she will say anything. She says DaVinci has not eaten. She is worried about him. (more so than for MA) She does tell him she understands he’s stressed.

Saul with MA… next day they will say the veredict. MA asks what if they declare me guilty? Does Lupe and my family know tomorrow is the veredict? He would rather them not know, maybe it is better for them to find out after the veredict.

At the fonda, Lupe is praying for the saints to give a hand to her and MA. To St Jude, she asks him to get them out of this big mess. To the virgin, she asks to clarify what is going on, to be able to believe in MA. If not, then open my eyes wide, so I can understand and deal with the truth.

Next day, veredict is ready.

At fonda, Chuy notices Lupe is very worried. And he can guess its about MA’s trial. They think the veredict is next week. Lupe asks what if he is declared guilty? The RPs come downstairs. Tizoc has an announcement. He has a gig with very hyp people… in a showcake (Frida explains he will have a 3 song intervention in some variety show). Tizoc really believes he will be famous and it will be fast like foam.

Veredict: innocent on murder of Adolfo and attempt on A-hole. Also innocent on any relation to Bambi. Complete veredict is innocent… MA can’t help but smile. Vilma is in disbelief. MA is dancing for joy. Saul gets into it too.

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #118 & 119, Friday 7/4/14

De que las noticias vuelen, vuelen
I will be out of town next Friday (July 11th) and Tuesday, July 29th. I'm hoping someone is willing to fill in so Kat won't have to.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend!

Ugh. This was one of those all-over-the-place and uninspiring episodes. I'm just going to give it the Joe Friday treatment (organized in a stream of consciousness/memory order....not episode order.)

Tad continues to refuse to ask Natalia to be the bone marrow donor. He doesn't want her to think he's just using her. Noble, but stupid.

Brigitte the Brat is still dealing with bouts of nausea. She finally checks her handy-dandy cycle calendar and realizes she must be pregnant. Why the gals always say "no puede ser" is beyond me. Are you having sex? Are you taking precautions? If not then sí puede ser. For the record, it's Rodrigo's. Against Brat's wishes, Alberto talks to Alonso about the nausea and is told it can be anything from an infection to pregnancy. Alberto makes it clear that pregnancy is out. He always took precautions.

Karina is a day late. She wonders if she's pregnant. Brat comes to see her to ask for advice. The fact that Brat is pregnant and Karina wants to get pregnant makes me very nervous.

Que Pobres Tan Ricos #128: 7/3/14: And The Oscar Goes To Mini!

Hola Amiguis! It has now been five days since we have seen Dona Mati, I am keeping count until she reappears, and hopefully that is soon. Tonight was very farcical with the Mini testimony and I have an earworm for just that: The Show Must Go On! I am going to condense, things may not be in order and I am trying to make it short. Enjoy your 4th of July and the long weekend Amiguis!

We start with Mini reading that letter that MA wrote to Lupe and what is Mini gonna do? Isela has a deal for Ahole, he puts the properties, one is the house, in Mini's name. Ahole tells Mini, do what I tell you and you got it!

Lupe and Don C talk. She hasn't heard from MA in ages. Don C tells her to have faith. No one knows how long this trial will take.

Emi calls Ahole and tells him about the sh*tty stunt he pulled to keep Lupe at home. Ahole is very proud of his boy.

Lo Que La Vida Me Robo, Capitulo 167, 3 July, 2014 - 'The Sting'

The Sting

The Set Up

As cons go, you have got to admit this one was a classic. The plan, the timing, the execution—they were all first rate. The Perpetrator, Doña Graciela Mendoza, has years of experience of fleecing the wallets, pockets and banking accounts of her enemies, acquaintances and, sadly, yes, her children.

But this confidence scheme was breathtaking in its audacity. It was awesome, truly awesome in its ruthlessness. Why? Because, my friends, the ‘Marks’ were her two daughters and her son-in-law, all of whom she cheated when they were deeply vulnerable.

Niccolo Machiavelli, rise from your dusty grave and take notes! Even you could learn from this mistress of deception.

The Perp

As the scene opens, Graciela Mendoza, her face a very mask of tragedy, holds her long-lost daughter Fabiola, weeping, in her arms. Her face looks rough, covered with tears and snot.

The First Mark - Fabiola

Graciela has just told Fabiola of her true identity. She is Graciela’s long lost daughter, believed to be dead lo, these 38 or so years. Fabiola, is a pitiful and ruined drunk; raised with plenty of money and no one to love in convent schools from the age of three, she is the proverbial poor little rich girl. She shudders and weeps and keens over her unbelievable good luck—she has found a mother after all of these years.

Graciela tells her everything a motherless child would want to hear—

Graciela loves Fabiola
She needs her
She is all alone because her other children have rejected her
She wants to be close to her daughter to make up for all of Fabiola’s years of suffering
Fabiola is her dear, dear daughter; she needs nothing else.

“Mama, Mama,” sobs Fabiola as Graciela holds her in her strong arms. And Graciela promises the woman, her daughter, that she need never again be alone.

Later, Amalia, Fabiola’s Godmother, comes by to tell Fabs not to trust her mother. She is a VERY bad person and Amalia is worried that Fabiola could get hurt. She begs Fabs to get out of Aguazul before it is too late. She reminds Fabs of pleasant times they shared earlier in life, when they visited her in Miami—they were almost like a family. But Fabiola rejects the great good sense of her Godmother. She tells Amalia that Graciela only wants to be near her, to know her, to be friends. She accuses Amalia of being a liar and tells her that she will never forgive her. Never.

De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #116 & 117, 7/3/2014

De Que la Fiesta Fué un Desastre, Fué un Desastre

Happy 4th of July!!! Since most of us will be spending Friday at BBQ parties, and not on this site, I am not going to put a whole lot of time into this recap. Here are the high level highlights:

-- Even though Nat is fed up with Carmen’s jealousy over Irene, she’s going ahead with planning for her surprise birthday party the next day, with Paolo and Lupita’s help. Luz is enlisted to keep Carmen occupied all day at the mall, while the kids decorate and lay out the food at home.

-- Irene has been listening to the audience, and points out to Tad that Nat also represents hope for a donor match for him. Tad refuses to even think about it. He doesn’t want Nat to think that’s why they are trying to get close to her. All he wants is his daughter’s affection.

-- Lupita and El have made peace and are plotting again. Lupita tells El about the party and the "keep Carmen occupied at the mall" plan. He lies to Kimberly, who is in house-cleaning mode, about running off to a mission. She thinks what she needs to do is up the sexiness factor and she talks to a friend on the phone who advises her to hire a maid, so that she can dedicate herself 100% to making herself sexy and desirable for El. She squeezes herself into a short, red clingy number, ready to greet El at the door, but it’s just Morales, with the Irene-Nat DNA results. Morales very much appreciates Kim’s efforts to look sexy, and says so out loud! She laments that El doesn’t appreciate her, but where can she find a man who does? Morales speaks up, “Right here!” Suddenly, they are lip-locked. They pull apart and swear not to tell El, since he would kill Morales. Morales makes a flustered and quick exit, and hands Kim the envelope to give to El. She opens the envelope, sees the positive DNA result, and assumes El has a love child.

Lo Que La Vida Me Robó, # 166, 7-2-2014--Ding Dong The Wicked No Balls Governor Is (Might Be?) Dead!

Hi Everyone,

It's going to be a quickie tonight.  I was away at a conference in DC and just got back and also my computer has been down for the count since last Thursday.  Luckily, our tech department gave me a loaner today so I could do the recap, but I had to try to take notes while watching in real time since I wasn't able to watch in advance.  Please feel free to add anything I missed.

Before I begin, I recently read an article about this and wanted to pay tribute to our Gracie's phenomenal crying abilities tonight:

Montserrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrat! (Really crying about Fabs)
