El Dragon #10, 10/11/19: An Auction, A Hospital and Madrid…Oh My!
It’s Friday night ladies and gentlemen and we left Peligros last night in peligro. Epig, had managed to figure out enough about what Miguel was doing to steal his money. He may not be the dumbest thug around, but his impatience and impulsiveness make it seem otherwise. He is so sure that Miguel is going to fail and at the same time won’t stop attempting against his life or his plans. Doesn’t sound like the actions of a sure man to me. So what is Miguel to do? Jimena is bidding at the auction and as of this moment, the money to bid with is gone.
Tonight’s episode picks up right where we left off with Miguel trying to call out to Peligros in the middle of the auction, and keep his cover at the same time. On a side note, for someone trying to pull his family into the legal side of the business, he seems to have an extremely good understanding of how to operate on the dirty side. Shell companies, money laundering, hacking, blackmail…and Miguel is supposed to be the good guy? Just saying…

El Dragón #9, 10/10/19: Ready, Set, Go, Or You Bet Your Life!
As we begin we note Miguel remembering his meeting with the members of The Garza Gang 2.0: "--You all know what you have to do." Hacker Team tinkles the keys at top speed, careful to check each and every screen's speedy DOSsed lines of program and......"DONE!" Jimena dons a black wig. "No mistakes, no raising of suspicions.... " Peligros and Sr. Advisor dig up buried bags of bills, American. Sr. A. gripes it isn't Euros. Peligros says he's only following orders. (Purposely over-inflated Euros don't work in the U.S. of A. dumbs!t. Most of N.America insists on using good ol' American greenbacks, as the writers should know. Or when in Rome.....)
Adela drives Mig to an apartment building where Mr. Pol-Carlos-- lives. Mig receives the financial information (tributario) he needs to negate one of his possible competitors. The first is La Muralla who always gets what he sets his sights on. His contact is expecting Mig's call. Carlos wants to re-emphasize that he's being pressured by his associate/s (Who? Oh. El Dragón #8, 10/9/19: Missions Impossibles Or New Tricks For His Trade
As the elevator doors begin to close two guns from Sergei's goons manage to poke through. Miguel and Karina are looking at cooked goose dinner--theirs--but Mig has hidden talents he was taught in the orient and plies them now. Both goons (lookin' like midget versions of fans leftover from an '80's ZZ Top concert) are taken by surprise (not to mention dreamy crispy creamy Karina) as he two-hand triple throws them (is that a judo term?) upside down and out and onto the floor long enough to escape them and Sergei, and to meet up with Adela in the parking garage as planned. They drive to have their lunch with Ruso numero uno -Alexi?--after all. Alexi is totally down with Miguel's operation and they seal the deal over Mexican pizza and vodka shots?

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 18 - Booze and Drugs and a Funeral
Paola is still asking Olga to say her name when the episode starts, but she turns it around quite drastically by the end, channeling her inner Maleficent. She instructs Tina to proceed with the funeral arrangements and tells her that she will contact Paulina. Naturally not only is that a lie, but she also calls Manuel to tell him of the news and orders him to prevent Paulina from finding out. At her command he tells Paulina that Olga and Paola left the city for a while and are incommunicado. For some unknown reason Paulina, who spent the better part of the episode looking for a cell phone (there seems to be a shortage of those in their residence) to call home and then dialing non-stop, seems to have believed him. Additionally looks like no one questioned Manuel’s giant black eye, so Mexico must be lenient on such things in Presidential households.

El Dragón #7, 10/8/19: It’s not Personal, it’s just Business!
We begin
with Miguel and Jimena meeting and Jimena accepting Miguel’s offer. She puts
her purse on the table in front of her and immediately, Miguel opens the purse
and takes out her pistol, disarming it. “I want an explanation” says Miguel. “Do
you always carry a gun in your purse?” She apologizes and says that if she is
going to work in illegal business, she has to protect herself. Miguel responds
by telling her she is working in finance, not as a hitman. He further explains
that her security is on him and then gives her a pen to sign the contract. “Boy,
you sure know how to impress a lady,” she says. The secretary comes in and says
someone is waiting outside for Miguel.
The business
consultant who came to see Miguel discusses the different type of business that
he can run from there. An engineering business, a construction business, and
ecological business among others. Miguel says, “I need the Russians.”

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 17 - What’s in a name? Turns out quite a bit for a jealous twin.
Paulina, having been dragged back to the hotel, is told to pack as they are leaving for Mexico immediately. Back in Mexico the grandmothers broke in to Lis’s room, found her next to an empty bottle of pills and are at a complete loss as to what to do. Thankfully for them, Gema shows up to save the day. She also has a phone and knows which discreet doctor to call. One of the perks of being a presidential child is that in case you attempt suicide, a doctor will come to pump your stomach at your residence, which is exactly what happens. Lis will be fine they are told. Everyone breathes a collective sigh of relief.

El Dragon #5, 10/4/19: The Truth Kills
Last night we ended with Miguel following Karina off the yacht to her place and them mutually seducing each other, But dang…didn’t take long to forget about Asya. On the other hand, that little stunt is going to cost him because the guys taking the pictures were none other than agents for some government entity. I am guessing the IRS type since he was talking about looking good in front of the Director of the Tax Office. And Miguel is about to become the “Pez gordo,” or fat fish.
We pick up with Miguel still in Miami, I guess the night in bed with Karina gave Miguel enough references to get a meeting with the Russians, because that is where we start this Friday night episode. Miguel's business plan seems too good to be true…a large network of money laundering for various organizations without charging them a penny and without risk. They, of course think it’s too good to be true. But Miguel seems to be operating like a bank. He cleans the money but in turn earns his cut through investing in the stock market. So that’s the plan. He tells the Russians he is trying to run this plan on an international level. The agent played by our friendly Alejandro Avila (Victor, Rulli’s best friend from LQLVMR) is trying to go undercover to see what he can find out from Mr. Sanchez Morris while quite obviously, scoping out Miguel the entire time.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 15 - "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt"
So Carlos is in Paulina’s room excitedly announcing that he will travel with her to Colombia. Paulina either panics or also has a secret crush on Carlos, because she does a very poor job of coming up with any excuses at all, and ends up acquiescing to his request. Not only that, but Carlos ends up inviting himself to sleep in one bed with her (because “while he has no problem falling asleep, he does not want to sleep alone”), but promises to behave. They are found still lounging in bed in the morning by Lisette (already made up with her goth style lipstick and eye shadow), who runs downstairs to inform the early bird breakfast crew – Piedad and Arcadia. Arcadia is over the moon, but Piedad looks less than pleased with this news. It doesn’t help that Carlos arrives and reveals their mutual travel plans.

El Dragón #4, 10/3/19: Putting Plans Into Motion
Lucky for Bernal that Miguel was at that meeting and saw him in front of the protesters. As soon as the shots were fired Mig raced out and grabbed his schoolfriend and dragged him to safety. Bernie asks what brought Mig there and he admits he was attending the Party of the Privileged. Bernie complains of all the treacherous crooks that were there attending with him who were all involved in his sister's death. They race to Mig's car and are only momentarily stopped by a group of policemen in their kevlar. The head cop takes one look inside the fancy car and Miguel's super serious and determined expression and Bernal's wounds, then backs off. (Viewerville supposes this will be a precursor of things to come.)
Meanwhile, Chisca learns they've run out of blow. Well, then, time to go to one of Granpop's hiphop one stop shops to grab a pack or two. She's stopped by one of Gramps's goons. By order of her brother she's not permitted to enter the club. Really? She backs him into a corner and begins to seduce him then suddenly screams and slaps him as trying to get fresh with her and makes a big scene in front of the other goons. First goon backs off. She tells him he won't say squat against her and slut struts in and later out of the club with her bag of boogey.

El Dragón #3, 10/2/19: Hector Puts His Life in Danger as Miguel Watches
We open
with Miguel sadly finding Aysa dead in the bathtub. Sometime later, he is in
his condo, reminiscing about her. He remembers her as they once walked down a
street together, showing him a card and she telling him he is the salt and she
is the sea, neither one exists without the other.
The
Garza siblings are at home bickering about Miguel. Chisca has a very bad attitude
and Dora tells Chisca to at least have some compassion for her older brother
Miguel.
In
Japan, Miguel meets with his boss, Ishiro Tanaka, head of Tadamichi Securities.
They sit down and Ishiro tells Miguel that he is like a Samurai without love. Miguel tells him he is going back to Mexico.
Ishiro asks if he knows what he is going to do with his home there. Miguel
answers that he has no idea, that he just plans to leave it as though Aysa
still lived there.

Epegmenio and his loyal lapdog have tracked Miguel down at the Garza parents' graveside. Pig tries making conversation; he tells a very observant but silent Mig that he's oh so loyal to and respectful of his abuelo, Lamberto Garza. When Mig doesn't respond in kind with a similar effervescing of hot air, Pig wonders why. Mig tells him the culture he's been brought up in values observation and few words. Pig then invites him to his ranch for a celebration of Miguel's return to Mexico from China--oh Japan? Uh, the East somewhere. Miguel says he'll check with his grandpop to see that he approves.
Later that morning, during one of Lamb's lucid moments during their walk together, Miguel informs him of his chat with Pig. Lamb warns him it is probably a trap. "--All the more reason I should go." He needs to study his enemy.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 11 - The Parent Trap!
During the blackout at the psychiatric clinic, Facundo gets to Paulina’s room to rescue her. He tells her he knows her true identity and will help. She begs him to not disclose anything, as her mother’s life is in danger. Master villain Terry also finally got to Paulina’s room with her gun, but she is spooked by Facundo and runs out, with him in pursuit. She manages to blend in with the nurses, and pretends to be engrossed in a conversation with a couple of them (who, curiously, pay no heed to the fact that they have never seen this woman in their lives, while working - we’ll note - in a highly secure facility…) Thus Facundo loses Terry and then is promptly asked to leave the premises, when the staff realizes he does not belong there (at least someone is paying attention). No rescue for Paulina for today. Instead she debriefs with the doctor and tells him all about the scare. They decide this blackout was orchestrated by Carlos’s enemies.

Hi Blogger Buds.
Just an update to let you know we have a Wed. or a Thursday 10 EST spot open. I will try to handle both of them till some brave volunteer steps up. Please let RGV or Anita or myself know if you'd like to do this with us.
The Gran Estreno is next Monday night at 10PM EST. It doesn't matter when you decide to insert yourself. We'll work around it.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 9
Recap by Princess Juju
This is going to be short because it's 1:00 am and I worked like 13 hours today, or rather yesterday.
Manuel is snooping and learns that Paulina has a plan to escape and that Monse, her nurse is in on it. He runs to his lair to inform Paola and Terrible Terry of this development, they agree that they can't attempt to kill Paulina again but perhaps they can neutralize her and a diabolical plan is born. Although I guess this plan isn't as bad as the initial plan to kidnap an innocent woman in order to force her to pretend to be Paola only to later kill her on national tv.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 8 - A silhouette of a galan emerges
We open with Paulina standing in the foyer of Gonzalo’s house with Santiago pointing a gun at her. Meanwhile at Manuel’s, Paola and company are watching the scene unfold via a live stream (I suppose we are to presume Paola installed a few cameras there while she was lately camping out at that house?). Suddenly, out of nowhere, Nava jumps out and tries to tackle Santiago. Watching this on screen, Paola is freaking out – yet another murderous plan is about to be botched!! A short struggle ensues, where Santiago temporarily has an upper hand but ends up running away. Nava chases him.

El Dragón: Major Character Profiles
As per usual, these are a compilation of various public interviews/publicity shorts released around the net of those most intimately involved in these characters' creation -- ed.]
Miguel Garza:
Miguel Garza is someone who is completely of and with the times, who approaches narcotics trafficking in a contemporary style and manner that doesn’t empower villains and criminal types
Adela Cruz:
She is a chauffeur who meets and becomes involved with Miguel’s mirky, tumultuous business dealings. Her biggest ambition in life is to demonstrate to him that there is a world out there within which he can contend (supposedly on his terms?)
Jimena Ortiz:
She has an advanced degree in finance and, as the “bad girl” in this telenovela, doesn’t miss an opportunity to use her beauty to get whatever she wants. A lover of money and power, she will insert herself between Miguel and Adela, in order to get him to become disillusioned with the young woman; and such that she gets him to lie, cheat and to use people.
Jorge Garza:
He is Miguel’s brother. Fearful, shy, and with a secret that torments him. He biggest worry is keeping the family calm and united despite its sad past.
Epigmenio Moncada:
His biggest ambition is to do away with Miguel Garza and to have absolute power over Grupo El Salado. In his search for power he never call into question his killing of Miguel Garza and his family.
Chisca Garza:
She is an ambitious, irreverent girl who will not rely on dumb luck at the time to find a good man that will love her.
Dora Garza:
She is a woman whose only preoccupation will be her family. She will look to fulfill the final wishes of her husband: whereby she will see that all his enemies should come to a nasty end.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 7 - Help! El Presidente escaped from the loony bin!
In a follow up to yesterday’s hot and heavy pursuits that El Presidente and Gema decided needed to happen right there, on the desk in his office, several feet away from his family having dinner, Paulina decides to go looking for Carlos to ask a few questions. Gema and Carlos have concluded their hay roll by then and are congratulating themselves with this impromptu rendezvous (eye roll), when they hear a knock on the door. Cue the action of quickly putting their clothes back on, as if nothing happened.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 6 - Little murder engine that could not
We open with Pedro, hot in pursuit of escaping Paola, but she outsmarts him and he loses her.
Pedro must need to play some Grand Theft Auto to buff up his skills, because by the time he gets back to Gonzalo’s mansion (having already lost Paola), Nava is only on his second sentence of interrogating Monse, which means Pedrito lost Paola at the first corner. Nava wants to know what Monse is doing there, she tries to play dumb, but finally tells him to ask Paola if he wants more details. Monse leaves and Nava inquires about Pedro’s pursuit and aptly points out that it’s not the car that matters, but rather the driver. (Dear Pedrito, see our advice above.) I am finding their ongoing quip about “tu” vs. “usted” to be very amusing. Nava feels old being called “usted” and keeps asking Pedro to use a familiar “tu”, which Pedro refuses to do, because Nava is “older”.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 5: Where is a time machine when you need one?
After yesterday’s shocking turn of events (for us anyway), Paola must have consulted her copy of Handbook for the Criminally Insane, which seems to have indicated that the next step to follow after murdering your lover is to dump the body overboard, while jamming to some death metal tunes. So that is what she did, while also bawling her eyes out. But really, what is she constantly listening to at the most inopportune moments??

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 4
Recap by Princess Juju
Dude, that was intense:
We resume the episode where we left off last night, Emilio has made the poor choice of pulling a gun on a group of protestors, they are not violent, they are simply desperate for someone to listen to them, Paulina promises to intervene on their behalf, and manages to earn some good will with the public, something her husband has been unable to do. Emilio is surprised that Paulina came to his aid and makes it clear that he believes she helped him not because she cares about him but because she wants something from him.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 3 - Attempted Murder on the Bora Bora Express
Manuel delivers the news of his failure over the phone to Paola. Surprisingly calmly (for her), she orders him to finish the deed and gets off the phone. Gonzalo though gets the brunt of her anger and craziness, as she has a spectacular meltdown, complete with screams and plate smashing. Eventually Gonzalo throws her into the pool to cool off. Good choice, we were tired of all the screaming as well.

La Usurpadora - Capitulo 2 - The best laid plans of mice and men...
Mexico City, 2019. Independence Day. First Lady is shot as the whole family was stepping onto the balcony to greet those who gathered. The chaos ensues. President is quickly ushered away, so are the kids. A few people put the First Lady on the stretcher. She has a bleeding wound in her shoulder, which one of her attendants is trying to plug with a tepid pressure of their index finger. We agree that it doesn’t look all that life-threatening, but c’mon….

La Usurpadora - Gran Estreno!
And so it begins - complete with love, guns and booze all in one episode. (Please see the previous post on the brief description of the characters if you'd like to refer to it as you go along!)
We open with the President and his staff looking out at the protests happening outside of his residence and office. The transport workers union is on strike and they are airing all of their grievances with this unpopular president. Carlos is doubting his presidential capacity too, but thankfully he has his trusty assistant Gema nearby to perk his spirits. He also has his wife Paola, none too pleased with all the commotion or with having to play the part of the First Lady for that matter.

For now, please enjoy this character preview, and hope you thought the Gran Estreno was as explosive as I did!
