Sueño de Amor (SdA) #11. Tuesday March 22, 2016. Don't Kiss Me, Marcel Marceau! They Will Cyberbully Me And Glue Your Pompis To A Chair!

Hello Patio Pals! We’ll have to make do with a discussion page until a valiant volunteer takes over this recapping spot.

The mime bit took me by surprise and, I won’t lie to you, I did yell out an involuntary "What in the...?". However, after the initial shock, I was really charmed, not just by Ricardo’s performance but also by Esperanza’s reaction to it. This actress has won me over and, as much as I love
Cristián de la Fuente, I must admit that his co-protagonist is now the main reason I tune in.

Pedro, the Friend Zone's poster boy, reconciles Kristel and Erasmo.

Viviana confesses to Luca that she is still in love with Ernesto despite their long-term estrangement.

SuperClingy gives SuperKlutzy permission to go to Járvar.

Ricardo kisses Esperanza in the teachers' lounge. It was a beso chiquitito, short and sweet, but somehow Osorio managed to fudge up the editing.

El Hotel de los Secretos #39, 3/21/16: Another Evening Pass

So Isabel is having dinner with Diego, insofar as she can bring herself to break bread with him, and Diego reminds her that she had something to tell him. "So let's talk now," he says. "I'm all ears!"

Andres is waking up in his bed. "You had an accident on your wedding night," Julio tells him.

Alfredo walks in on Belen nursing "his" son. "You're the wet-nurse? No way! Gimme!" Alfredo says, trying to wrestle the baby away from Belen.

Pasion y Poder #108 20160321 Eladio is a Better Man, but a Boring Villain

This recap has not been edited.  I'm way too tired.  The last ten minutes of this recap is sketchy.  My signal kept going in an out.  I missed a lot of what was going on.

Julia's still pissed because Nina called her a homewrecker.  She recounts the sordid scene with Humberto.  Humberto tells Julia that Nina has no class.  The hand that "rocked her cradle wasn't wearing a diamond".

Dani wants to cook Dave a romantic dinner.  As soon as Dave leaves the room, Dani calls Petra-Samantha, who walks her through the preparation.

Lucita WTF asks Caridad to be her grandmother.  Caridad agrees.

Julia visits Dave and they argue over the divorce.  Both Dave and Julia are stupid.  Really stupid.  Instead of rejoicing that she is free from her abuser, Julia is obsessing over why Eladio divorced her first.  Who cares?  One less beating to endure, one less egg to fry!  Duh!  Dave who has forgotten that Eladio sired Franco and boinked the Ratt reminds Julia that men don't like to be cheated on.  Julia's all like...if Eladio loved me, he wouldn't have divorced me!  Anyways, Julia finds the keys that Dani conveniently left on his counter.  Dave tells Julia that he doesn't owe her an explanation.  Julia is shocked that Dave didn't realize that Dani just pulled an alternative version of the old marking your territory by "leaving your underwear at his house trick".  Or is it the old leave an item at his house trick so that he will have to contact you again.

Outside, the Three Stooges attempt to dodge security to help Nacho talk to his wife, Begoña; and inside, Ernesto instructs Arleth to find out who the owner of Instituto Palacios is. Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 5 (Mar 21, 2016)

The Three Hombres and The Women Who Love Them

Luis Montero--The man with a plan
  • Amelia Altamirano del Alamo de Perez, younger daughter of rich rancher, Fernando Altamirano. She fell in love with Luis (older, but contemporary in age), sometime after finishing her prepa 19 years ago. They had at least one encounter al aire fresco and she ended up pregnant. He left her in the lurch, saying neither she nor the bebe were in his plans for the future. She pined for him for the next 19 years while married to Pedro, the Altamirano estate gardener (whom she had treated as an older brother to have fun with), who saved her from the disgrace of having a bastard child. Although always his favorite, her father kicked them out of the house anyway.
  • Mariana Altamirano del Alamo de Sotomayor, older daughter of Fernando. She's Amelia's envious sister, primarily because she was not the favored child. She fell in love with Luis, probably from seeing him with Amelia. He never showed any interest in her. Her father later forced her into a convenient, but loveless marriage to a rich (but ambitious) widower, Hernan. He has a daughter, Camila, from his first marriage. Mariana doesn't like her around. The couple is childless. Her interest in and immediate obsession with Luis is rekindled by a visit to his law offices with her father. She claims she's been in love with him for over 19 years. He is not interested in her amorous advances, but makes nice because she has information on Amelia he wants.
  • Marissa Gomez Ruiz de Montero, widowed rich bank president, considerably older than Luis. She seduced him into marriage 19 years ago by offering him a trip to Europe with her and her then 10-year old son, Carlos, to live and study to become a lawyer. He accepts without hesitation--it was his plan. She is now cognizant of her age and is afraid to lose him to a younger woman. She's still in love with this jerk. He has cooled to Marissa's bedroom advances. (P.S. Her son, Carlos, hates him.)
  • Andrea, leggy, young, blonde assistant to Isabela, the owner of a beauty/spa academy. Where she met Luis is not clear, but she fell in love with him and is blind as to what he is really like. He, on the other hand, knowing where his pocket change comes from, uses her for some afternoon delight and either thanks her or argues with her on the way out of the bedroom. She has decided that getting pregnant would be the ideal way to get him to leave his wife. So far, we've only been privy to one jealous temper tantrum from her when she caught him in his office with Mariana hanging all over him and looking like a kiss was happening.

El Hotel de los Secretos #38, 3/18/16: One bad night and one good night coming up

Sorry for the length, I just couldn't shorten it and not take anything out that wasn't pertinent to the story.

We open with the boys from the hotel who helped with the mining explosion returning home, all dirty and tired. They are met by Benjamin who informs them that they have to make up their time absent from their jobs. What as ass.

Diego awakes to the cold reality of his new marriage, alone in the marital bed, while Isabel is checking on the baby and Sofia.  Sofia just wants to be left alone, Isabel just wants to help her. Perhaps her milk ducts are clogged, she gives her advice for that. Teresa comes in and sees the fussing baby, she said she’s going for Belen, the nodriza, wet nurse, which is a surprise to Isabel.

Julio is bringing coffee to the newest guest sitting in the lawn. Cecilia turns to see him and Julio has the shock of his life.

Pasión y Poder Capitulo #107 Friday, March 18th 2016 Hmm.. last weeks, you say, then why are the bad guys still winning and scheming??

At GLA, Eladio and Julia are about to sign the divorce papers that will bring an end to their marriage. They both struggle to get their signature on the papers, but end up dong so. In fact, Eladio does this funny thing where he takes out his pen to sign the papers, but then decides to use the pen that Julia used instead, and really struggles internally to bring himself to sign the papers. Julia is taken aback when Rueda explains that she and Eladio will be divorced in TWO DAYS. "So soon?!", she says in a disappointed tone. (Well, that's why it's called an "express divorce", my dear!)

At Casa Montenegro, the Montenegro kids prove that they are still five years old. Daniela joins Regina, Erick, and Nina in the garden, and asks that Regina not set foot inside the living room, because David is there, and Daniela wouldn't want for poor little David to have a bad time at Casa Montenegro. Nina and Erick get upset when they find out that Regina and Jorge have been doubling dating with Miguel and Consuelo. That's when things get really heated between the three Montenegro children and they all start yelling and screeching at each other like five year olds who are fighting over who gets the last chocolate chip cookie. Nina finally shuts them up and puts them on time out and calls Regina and Daniela out on what they are doing wrong, but she fails to call out Erick on what he is doing wrong, because for Nina, her Chimp, can do NO WRONG. #NotCool #BadMother #MamasBoy

Rueda says that the divorce can come out sooner since he's both Julia and Eladio's lawyer. He tells them that he'll keep them informed and leaves. Now alone, the two talk about their love, and Eladio says that "circumstances" separated them (Uh, no, it was the fact that you bedded another woman, knocked her up with your spawn, made her raise that spawn, lied about it, etc). When Julia tells Eladio how bad she feels about all this, he tells her "not as much as I do". Eladio then starts going on and on about his love for her. It's real and eternal and he laments that they couldn't find a solution to this "marriage crisis". He has realized that they won't be together in this life, but his tattoo says that they'll be together in another life. *rolls eyes* Julia has tears in her eyes and is so touched with his words that she embraces him.

El Hotel de los Secretos #37, 3/17/16: Matilde is a "G"

Sorry for the late and short recap, I spent all morning trying to score Radiohead tickets!

Here is your recap:

  • Diego is not happy that his wife is spending so much time at the hospital, Isabel reminds him that the work she is doing is not a hobby or something that was meant to keep her entertained while she waited for them to get married, Ayala over hears the conversation and is told by Diego that he simply wants his wife to go home and rest.
  • The good doctor lays into Isa as well and tells her to go home and assume her responsibilities as an adult- for every hour she spends at her her husband will allow her to spend 3 in the hospital- Isa objects and tells him he is asking her to sell herself, the doctor disagrees and tells her that she can't act like a child, always demanding more, more and more but never giving anything up.

I'm posting this for Pablo, everybody welcome and thank him for joining the team!

Everybody loves Richard
While Esperanza and Ricardo argue over the unbelievable coincidence that is having him as a neighbor, and he saying that he did it on purpose, after the bitter incident of the bumper collision, we see a sinister walking figure with a lion like mane and tigress eyes, springing out of the mover's truck, and overhearing his love promises approaches them. Pasión y Poder Jueves 3/17/16 #106

Chapter 106: Fallen Angels

So many people trust the wrong people in their lives. Betrayal is no respector of gender, relationship status, education, looks, or any other human quality. It can happen to the rich or the poor. It's not always about money, but when it is it's bigger than the owners of the money because it often has its roots in things beyond greed. It also has lingering effects into other areas of life. The next stop for some of these people will not be the Twilight Zone that Rod Serling wrote about, but it will be something equally unknown to them.  I won't feel any pity when that happens.  – D.D.

El Hotel de los Secretos #36, 3/16/16: Life Lessons

Diego has a serious case of wedding night sexual frustration, but holds it together long enough to approve Isabel heading off with Doc Vic and Matilde to attend to the wounded men in the exploded mine. As soon as he’s back in the honeymoon suite, however, he starts swigging wine straight from the bottle, and tosses flower-filled vases across the room. He cuts himself on a vase shard, and goes looking for first aid in the bathroom medicine cabinet. Instead, he finds Isabel’s bottle of fake virgin’s blood, and seems to know exactly what it’s for. Uh oh!

In another wing, another baby is having a fit, but this one’s actually a real baby. Belen’s Baby #1, or Alfredo Jr., is crying inconsolably, and Elisa’s nerves are frayed listening to him. She complains to Victoria. “It’s not normal for a baby to cry with that kind of desperation. When have you ever seen a woman take a siesta right after giving birth? What mother prefers to rest instead of taking their child in their arms… That baby is trying to tell us something. We just need to listen… I may lack many things, but I’m overflowing with maternal instinct.” She vows to find out what’s really going on, so she sends Victoria to Sofia’s room to snoop. Teresa catches her listening outside Sofia’s door and sends a message back to Elisa that one grandmother is more than enough, and they don’t need her to turn Jr. into another weak, mama’s boy Fredito. She goes inside, and yells at drugged and unconscious Sofia to wake up and attend to her son!

Sueño de amor #7 3/16/16

Esperanza does her best to make Pedro comfy on the floor since he seems to be passing out and cannot see. She calls for help on her cell.

At Ricardo's house in L.A. the news is that wifey Tracy is not going to let the kids go to Mexico unless it is done her way since they are all in danger because of Ricardo's job and "that maniac" that is stalking them. She brings up Rodrigo's nightmares. Turns out Rodrigo has been having nightmares and Tracy has never ever really given them much importance until now. Ricardo thinks she is bringing up the nightmares now just to blackmail him. We get to see Rodrigo's nightmare where the La Sombra comes into his room through an open window, grabs Rodrigo, covers his mouth and threatens revenge. Finally, Rodrigo gets his mouth free and yells for his dad and mom. Ricardo And Tracy rush in to comfort Rodrigo who has awakened. All Rodrigo can do is mutter "La Sombra" and cry as Ricardo calms him down and Tracy looks like she has had it. Ricardo promises that they will be catching La Sombra real soon. (Makes me wonder what the backstory is on this plot line.)

At the De la Colina house, since Viviana got the news about Pato and Luca being novios, Viviana just sort of wheezes and cannot talk to say what she wants. She finally can write on a tablet that she disagrees with it and it will be over her dead body. Ernesto is more than happy to talk up the novio relationship and rub it in Viviana's face. He tells her "over her dead body" would be perfect and a big favor to everybody.

El Hotel de los Secretos #35, 3/15/16 Tuesday: A Night For Fireworks Yes, But For Diego, No

First part of who knows how many.....

As we JIP this episodio:

·        Trouble has joined his big bro’, Double, and Julio does the unexpected honors.  Julio has heeded Belen’s warning that Dona Teresa already tried killing her once tonight by locking her in to have her bleed to death; thus, he moved her into his and Andres’s room for safekeeping.  Belen has told mini-T that Andres is really the son of old, dead Romulo Alarcon and therefore they’ll be protected from harm.  No one will touch them once he’s awake and they’re married……(Well, as Viewerville knows, it won’t be for lack of somebody’s constantly tryin’!)  That’s assuming Andres does marry her in the end, ¡por supuesto!

·        The local boys who work the mines head down to do another day’s work for another day’s pay--unos cuentos centavos-- as Los Ricos enjoy Isabel Alarcon’s wedding reception and one of the major events of the year.

·        Julio is forced to endure Isa’s pointed snubs and that degenerate dog, Diego’s, slobbering over her during the reception.  (After his cruel torturing of the beleaguered, birthing Belen, I am certain he fathered not a few bastard Natzi SS officers somewhere along the line.)  Don Benjamin sees to it that Julio ministers to the recién casados whatever their need. Right now, it is serving Isabel and Diego the cake cutter.  (OMG!!!)

·        Mr. Silver-tongued Snake implores his new bride to let them/him begin from scratch with their new lives.  They’ll forget the past mistakes.  All before this has been a rehearsal, alright?  She smiles innocently back at him.  And Julio observes as the band plays on….. Isa glances up towards the balcony and notices Julio fighting back his tears.

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #6. Tuesday March 15, 2016. Esperanza Rejects Ricardo Again, PatoLuca Are Officially Novios And Pedro Goes Blind!

Hello Patio Pals! We’ll have to make do with a discussion page until a valiant volunteer takes over this recapping spot.

The scene of Pato and Luca dining on the roof of a building in construction... Qué the hell was that? I watched it again tonight and I am rendered speechless. The only words going through my head in a maddening loop are: "What the fudge did I just watch?" And what does that SK plastered on Luca's Halloween costume stand for? Stupid Klutz? With the exception of this unfortunate-in-every-imaginable-sense scene, I found that this episode was pretty enjoyable. Esperanza and Ricardo have great chemistry. Kristel and Erasmo are lovely, in spite of the annoying banda song that starts blaring everytime they are together. Kristel and Pedro hanging out and talking made me hope we can see a real friendship blossom between them (telenovelas could use more platonic relationships).

El Hotel de los Secretos #34, 3/14/16 Monday: Two mothers, two babies, no waiting!

Rerun: The ribbon-cutting ceremony at the hospital. Diego gives a speech: blah blah blah, reinvesting in the community that does so much for the Alarcons and the hotel, yadda yadda, he cuts the ribbon, and there's an engagement ring on the ribbon. Isabel, will you marry me?

There's a long pause as Isabel's gaze meets Julio's. For the record, I never hear her say yes, but apparently she says it. Julio finishes his letter to his mother: "I'm happy, Mom."

AUTUMN 1908

It's the night before the wedding. Mati is trying to get Isabel to cancel. (Mati, do you call this a bachelorette party?) Isabel says she'd rather work in the hospital than continue chasing a lofty dream. And having Diego as a companion is better than nothing.

And now we're at the wedding. Dr. Vicario walks Isabel up the aisle. (The church looks to be half-empty. Where is everyone?) We're spared the long ceremony; people are already throwing rice. Elisa is there. Felipe is there in his robes, making me wonder how much Teresa has been paying to keep him at the monastery.

At the reception, Teresa is beaming, wearing an amazing silver gown. Sofia frets: she's afraid people are looking at her, and will know her secret. And Alfredo's coming home soon, she says. The doctor tells her to act happy. She'll be a mother soon. Teresa offers her some soothing wine with the doctor's blessing.

Elisa is still planning to take Alfredo home when he gets out of jail. (She notices that Victoria is wearing red lipstick.)

Felipe tells Mrs. Limantur he's trying to be like St. Augustine. He's not sure if he's ready to come back to the "world" yet. She teases him, saying he should test himself with a little temptation: drink, dancing... Felipe hopefully asks one of the brothers his opinion. The brother says NO.

It's time for the champagne toast. Benjamin tells Julio that he should act in Andres' place to serve the champagne to the novios. Julio complies with great reluctance.

Pasion y Poder #104 20160314 Seriously! Everyone in the TN is Stupid!

We return to the nursery where Gina is shooting daggers at Dani.  Gina doesn't approve of how Erick gained custody of the EJ (Erick Jr.).  Erick assures his sister that Connie is fine with him ripping her heart out of her a$$ by taking her baby.  He's given Connie permission to enjoy her daily supervised visits with his mother.

Gaby comes out of the bathroom.  No baby again.  Franco tells her that he is not in a hurry to knock her up until Eladio gives him the Gomez-Luna name.  Gaby wants to go to the gyno (geez, I got the willies just thinking about that!  I hate the gynecologist because it's just like going to the gynecologist!)  Franco says that Eladio won't give him the surname until he divorces Julia.  The thought of the divorce makes Franco frisky.  He pushes Gaby back down on the bed.

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #5. Monday March 14, 2016. Ricardo Is Moving to Mexico And The Guerreros Have New Battles to Wage.

At a glance

-- Esperanza tells Ricardo she no longer loves him.
-- Pato and Luca are so sickly sweet, my tummy hurts.
-- Ernesto can't find any information on Ricardo.
-- Tracy offers to stay with the kids while Ricardo travels to Mexico for work. She refuses to grant Ricardo a divorce.
-- Silvana succeeds in getting Pato's scholarship revoked.
-- Ricardo applies for a job at Instituto Palacios. He needs to infiltrate the school to find La Sombra's kid.

A closer look

Ricardo is on the phone to Esperanza, talking about how much he loves her and how seeing her revived his old feelings, yada yada yada. He hopes they can pick up right where they left off. He is certain that Esperanza feels the same about him; he can’t be imagining things. Esperanza can’t contain her tears but she stays firm: She tells Ricardo that she is no longer in love with him and asks him to stop contacting her. She hangs up without raising the question that puzzled viewers for days: "Where in poo-perfect hell were you for the last 20 years?". For two decades, Ricardo didn’t use any of the means of communications known to Man to contact Esperanza. What’s up with that? Not a single letter, phone call, telegram, carrier pigeon, smoke signal or three-eyed raven! Nada! Then Mr. Hot Stuff shows up at Esperanza’s door, tells her he’s married, drops the “I love you” bomb and expects her to fall into his arms. Sorry, Ric, but “Operation Get A Load Of Me” is a resounding failure. Oh, and you’re a creep!

Un Camino Hacia El Destino-Week 4 (Mar 14, 2016)

A plea from the editorial desk: could anyone step up to post a few short overviews this week? I will be unable to take up the reins again until Week 5.

Lots happened last week. Pedro lost control and started to assault Amelia sexually; Luis can't be sure who is being truthful about Old Fer's granddaughter's existence; Marissa is beginning to doubt her allure for her husband, but our "May-December" pairing is still heating up, despite Amelia, Camila, Felipe and Isabela's efforts to break up Luisa Fernanda and Dr. Carlos Gomez Ruiz. Is this a love that is going to last a lifetime? Tune in to see.

Did you know that Luisa Fernanda is the name of a famous Spanish zarzuela by F. Moreno Torroba? It debuted at Madrid's Teatro Calderon on March 26, 1932. In many ways it was the last great romantic zarzuela. To quote, "Torroba's music certainly offers colorful Spanish charm, as well as fair helpings of graceful Viennese musical comedy and Italian operatic verismo....[his] melodies are consistently memorable and his theatrical instinct never falters."

Here is Placido Domingo in an aria from Luisa Fernanda--"Ay Mi Morena" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19-GI2LzOtc

Pasion y Poder #103 20160311 The Iowans Have Taken Over Mexico

Eladio stresses to Caridad that Marintia had better stick to the agreement and keep her mouth shut.  If not, both of them will suffer the consequences.

Once again, Julia is moaning to Gaby about how she can't trust Eladio and will never forgive him.  Gaby tells Julia to follow her heart and be happy.  Lessoned learned ladies:  if you don't have sex with your husband for over 20 years, he will eventually have sex with someone else.  Correction:  he will have sex with a lot of someone elses.

Franco tells Eladio about some protest that he is orchestrating at the Montenegro Riviera Maya construction site.  Eladio isn't impressed until Franco explains that he has arranged for the press to be there.  Eladio changes the subject to Marintia.  Franco needs to tell her to keep her mouth shut.  Franco says that he's got her under control.  Eladio strongly disagrees.  He tells Franco that Julia had better not get mad at him because of this.  She doesn't like secrets.  Speaking of Julia, she calls and asks Eladio to come home immediately.

-- Isabel and Julio break up and become estranged.
-- Sofía's growing dependence on opiates is becoming problematic and is being fed (intentionally or unintentionally) by Mother Terror Teresa. Sofía's husband rots in jail to protect her lying manic-depressive behind.
-- Andrés is saved from marrying Belén (and from getting killed by the Werewolf Gold Knife Slasher) thanks to a freak accident involving a horse and a strategically positioned wagon wheel. He is now in a coma, blissfully unaware for an entire summer.

Buckle up for this is a bumpy one. Here we go.

Following Alfredo’s arrest, Sofía is having a nervous breakdown. She sits in her bed, crying and shaking uncontrollably. Her barely coherent mumbles of “I can’t! I can’t!” are punctuated by low-pitched wails. Dr. Lázaro Vicario tries to calm her down, to no avail. He asks Isabel to prepare him a dose of morphine but she protests that he can’t inject morphine to a pregnant woman. The Doc snaps at her: “This is an order! I am not asking advice from a student! And tell me once and for all whether you want to carry on learning by following the orders of your superiors!”. Isabel obliges. The Doc asks Matilde to pitch in and help. While all three look after Sofía, Teresa steals a bottle of laudanum from Lázaro’s medical bag and tucks it into the waistband of her skirt. Teresa maintained the most phlegmatic composure throughout this scene but her face betrayed the angst and impotence a mother feels when she can’t alleviate her child’s distress.

Sueno de Amor, #4, Friday, 03/12/16 There is no alegria in the Alegria family

Hello, my patio peeps! I'll try to cover as much as possible from the episode, but fair warning: I blended some scenes together to give this a better flow. Sorry for the bad editing, I'm writing the first part on the run.

Part one (part two later in the afternoon)

We start with Ricardo and his operation to catch La Sombra. The guy that gets killed in the fight turns out not to be the feared Sombra, though. Ricardo is muy molesto.
Back at the operations center - imagine a Star Trek meets FBI quarters meets Total Recall - Ric gets proof that La Sombra, Maximilano Izzaguire, had been in the house at some time, they found his prints there. They also got a child's drawing and an ultrasound (?!). These are some serious clues that they need to look into.
Police work gets interrupted by a call from home - it's Ric's wife, Tracy, telling him he needs to get back ASAP. Ric is not happy about it, but he lets his assistant know that he has to catch the next flight back to LA.

El Hotel de los Secretos #32, 3/10/16 Thursday: Sofia has a bad day

Hello patio peeps, my apologies for not being able to recap last week, I had the worst cold I've ever had, I thought my ear drums would burst. Below you'll find a short recap of last night's episode!

Jacinto y Violeta:

So Jacinto is talking to Violeta when they are rudely interrupted by Violeta's mom, who tries dragging her away, Violeta's pimp comes on the scene and sends the women away. Mr. Pimp asks what Jacinto wants with Vio and Jacinto replies that he has good intentions towards her, then he gets a word of advice from Mr. Pimp: "whores live like whores and die whores"- he cautions Jacinto against coming back to the brothel without paying, if he visits he is to pay, if he drinks he is to pay, so I guess Jacinto will need a part time job to be able to pay for the visits to his lady love.

Isa y Julio

So these two should not be together because Julio compares her family to a rabid pack of wild dogs and Isa is doing her best to protect her puppies, family. She tells him Sofia is innocent and that she's a sick woman, in the end Julio says that he will do whatever it takes it bring his sisters murderer to justice. They each have to do what they have to do. Julio goes to Ayala and tells him he will bring him something of Sofia's that can be used to get her finger prints. Ayala tells him that doing so could be costly to Julio- he could lose Isa, but Julio pays him no mind- he will get justicia for his sister. And so Julio breaks into Sofia's room and steals a book that Ayala later gets prints from, it seems like lady Sofia is the number one suspect because her finger prints match those at the scene of the crime-dun,dun,dun!

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #3. Thursday March 10, 2016. Give Me A Cris To Build A Dream On... Alas, The Reencounter Of Hope And Happiness Doesn't Go Well!

At a glance

-- Esperanza and Ricardo (Cristiáaaaan!) have their long-awaited reencounter. It took 2 decades for them and 2 episodes for us. Alas, she learns that he is married with two kids. Drat!
-- Kristel (Redhead Flying Skirt that has Pedro going gaga) has a meet-cute with Erasmo Gallo, the sexy construction worker.
-- Viviana, Luca's botoxed mom, does not approve of his interest in Pato and talks Ernesto's ears off in the hope of convincing him to separate the young couple. Ernesto is adamant to defend their relationship. We also learn that Viviana cheated on Ernesto around the time he got involved with Esperanza.
-- Pedro has diabetes and his dad passed away before he was born.
-- Ricardo does his first SWAT operation against La Sombra.
-- No impromptu street-dancing in musturd uniforms to report.

A closer look

It’s mother-and-son elote time for SuperMom and her adorable blond cubby. Esperanza spots a leather-clad hunk riding away in his motorcycle and thinks it’s Ricardo. She feels that her heart is leaving her chest: It’s gotta be Ricardo! Pedro chases the guy but can’t catch up to him. The mystery motorcyclist is wearing a helmet but I recognized those beautiful brown eyes right away. I know my Chilean Bombón when I see him. You can’t slip that beefcake by me!

Pasión y poder, Episode 102, Thursday, March 10, 2016: Regression to the Mean(ie)

These two wounded people, Eladio and Julia, have reached a stalemate.

Each suspects the other of betrayal.  And each is right.  (Wasn't spending the night with Arturo an emotional betrayal?  Isn't hiding The Marintia Problem from Gaby and Julia playing dirty pool?)

And more narrowly speaking, each is wrong, of course.  There has been no extramarital boinking.  Not lately.  (Or not yet.)

Eladio will tell Julia why he was visiting Caridad if she will tell him whether she spent the night with Arturo. Even if she had been with Arturo, she says, he hardly has the right to reproach her, he with his many lovers.  And she storms out in a cloud of self-righteous angst.

Eladio's expression changes rapidly from devastation to rage.  "She was with him!"

He calls Franco into his office and orders him to find out all the dirt on Arturo: the Riviera Maya project, the hydroelectric plans, the restaurants, the hotels – everything that bastard is doing.  Eladio is going to ruin him!

Sueño de amor #2 3/9/16

After tonight, I am just going to have to get used to expecting the unexpected since all in one episode we went: from a musical number in the street to high blood sugar to Botox to an interrupted sexual assault to a trip down memory lane in silhouette and to lots more. I have to admit I enjoy the variety . . . and liked this episode much more than the first.

We will pick up just after Pato is creeped out finding out that Luca is her brother as her father Ernesto just has this weird grin on his face. Luca tries to say something but Ernesto cuts him off. He is so glad to meet his beautiful daughter. Pato has been waiting for this moment for years and does not know what to say to him so Ernesto invites Pato and Luca both out to dinner. Luca begs off saying they must have a lot to talk about. Pato just gives a sad uncomfortable look as she leaves with the still grinning Ernesto.

School time: Esperanza is playing a recording of her principal Silvana Fierro threatening her if she does not change Paulo Rey's grade. She wants her principal to be aware thay she he has the recording on the phone and is ready to play it for the school board if necessary. Silvana tells her she can keep her job but not for long. She may have won the battle but not the war. Esperanza Didn't know they were at war but she is not afraid. She needs her job to earn a living but she also needs her job to protect her students from a principal like her. Silvana informs her that she will make her life miserable and will not rest until she has destroyed Esperanza!!!!!!!!

El Hotel de los Secretos #31, 3/9/16 Wednesday: All for the Proof of the Truth

·       Julio has snuck into his beloved’s bedroom but honestly we don’t know why—to talk about why he felt the need to abandon their eloping.  He hasn’t abandoned her, he says.  He’s close by and so is justice for his sister with him there as well.  Isabel says talk to the hand.  She, Viewerville senses, is having second thoughts about her Dear Diego letter. El Do or Die Gold-digger de Diego left that letter as if it were unread—what a heartbreak it must have been!  (If only he had a heart there instead of that rotted piece of cherry-pit.)   He takes care of her and she was careless and care free when it came to him.  (Someone may have a better grasp of the nuance here.) —and I do not??”  No, in a few words.   He only wants justice for his sister.  Hah!  He doesn’t know the meaning of the word! sayz she.   To Isa the meaning of the word justice has been expanded just a bit.   [Think ‘Social’.] Justice is not being so selfish as to think that his wounds are the deepest , nor his battles the most important to fight.  He tries to ask her forgiveness.  His mercurial maid won’t accept it.  “—Leave!  You leave, or…, or I will!!” Well, she’s right.  Julio is the most obdurate man she’s ever met.  He stays.  She exits stage right.
·
·        Jacinto, meanwhile, is trying to eat a bit of breakfast while Lupe chats and asks if he’s done anything with the news about his mama’s whereabouts in Little Rock—as in Arkansas, not Arizona.  Jacinto remains silent and moody.  He suddenly ups to upchuck outside.  (Personally that baby act he pulled with Violeta made me wanna upchuck.   What a WTF momento.)

Sueño de Amor (SdA) #1. Tuesday March 8, 2016. A Wobbly Premiere Marked By The Conspicuous Absence Of Our Chilean Bombón (Cristiáaaaan!) And The Auspicious Absence Of The Osorio Kid

At a glance

-- We meet Esperanza Guerrero, a single mother to Patricia "Pato" Guerrero Diez and Pedro Carmona Guerrero. She combines two teaching jobs: one at the fancy Instituto Palacios and one at a public school.
-- Esperanza plans on building a school for street kids and dreams of encountering Ricardo again, her long-lost love (and sorely missed Cristián de la Fuente).
-- Silvana Fierro, School Principal of Instituto Palacios, pressures Esperanza to give a pass to a student because he is the son of the School Board President. Esperanza refuses. Silvana threatens to fire her.
-- Ernesto de la Colina, a wealthy real estate magnate, is revealed to be Pato’s biological father. He pretended to be single, seduced Esperanza and abandoned her when she fell pregnant. He now wants to meet their daughter and win over Esperanza.

-- Luca de la Colina is Ernesto’s eldest son. Pato sees him save a worker’s life at a building site and she is smitten. Luca and Pato have an overly cute “meet-cute”, but later, Pato goes to visit her biological father and discovers that she and Luca are half-siblings!

A closer look

It appears that the graphics budget has been stripped to a minimum: the title logo is brought to you by the Crayola people and the mad Photoshop skillz of someone’s 9-year old niece. On the other hand, the opening credits feature a lovely song by Maná and Shakira. I guess that’s where all the budget went. I can get onboard with that.

Chapter 101: Reflections in a Dark Adapted Eye

Pierre Choderlos de Laclos would probably love to trade places with me right now. The absence of powdered wigs, folding fans, and canopied beds would make no difference to him. There are still as many lies, deceptions, and false promises to have gotten the book banned in France in his time. As for now, nothing really gets banned in Boston anymore and I think people like to be shocked. This particular set doesn't shock me anymore; after the Bradleys and the Grenvilles nothing does. – D.D.

Antes muerta que Lichita #115 3/7/16 "El gran final" Part 2

Everybody thought this would be a two-hour episode and I was doing the last hour -- so I'm glad I got home and turned on my dvr halfway through the show. This was without a doubt the worst "grand finale" of any novela I've ever watched. It was so disrespectful to the viewers and also to the crew and actors of the show to chop it up into such a mess. Shame, Univision!

My tape starts after the credits. Two lawyers come to take Mateo away from the Guttierez home - Alicia's custody had been temporary and now it has elapsed. They've come to take him back to an orphanage (? a "governor's house). Sadness and tears. Yet again Mateo is told, "I'll come for you and we'll never be separated." If that kid doesn't spend years in therapy my name is not Sigmund Freud.

Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 3 (Mar 7, 2016)

Anita is in the editorial chair, putting up the Discussion Page for this week (and maybe next week).

This is an invitation for those who have not yet checked out Un Camino Hacia el Destino. Put on your walking shoes and come along. You may actually enjoy it. It has nuns in white habits, a few schoolgirls, no annoying kids. It has a gardener who gets sweaty in undershirts, frizzy haired villanas, an old grandpa, a bitter disillusioned wife, sensible nannies, shyster lawyers and an earnest young guapo doctorcito.

It is not a teen novela (it's at 7:00 p.m.), although it may come close. It has a bouncy upbeat teenager on the verge of womanhood and her first serious romance.

It has a great cast and we're hoping the directors keep the producer in check. Earlier episodes are on Univision (at least I see 2,3,4 and 7,8,9--not sure what happened to 5 & 6), Hulu (I'm guessing) and OnDemand. Recaps for the first two weeks are on the first discussion page. New ones coming, as time permits. Please contribute to the discussions, though.

Note to Carlos: Every time I type Dr. Carlos (Horacio Pancheri), I think of you.
Note to Susanlynn: Your Sweet Baboo gives the sweetest kisses.

El Hotel de los Secretos #30, 3/7/16 Monday: Hissy Fits

Diego reads Isabel's "Dear John" letter and has a hissy fit. He seems genuinely heartbroken, like a little boy who's been forever barred from playing with Hot Wheels.

Ayala presents Teresa with his evidence: the Mallet of Reckoning. She doesn't even recognize it, much less accept it as a murder weapon. She's unimpressed by Ayala's assertion that it's the only object that could have inflicted the wound found on Cristina's skull. Ayala says it could only have been wielded by someone who comes and goes from the hotel at his or her whim. Gravel from the courtyard was also found in the ironing room. (Teresa's face momentarily turns grave when Ayala's back is turned.) He asks, no, begs her to allow him - without forcing him to obligate her - to question the employees. "Very well, as long as it's only the employees," she replies. What a heart of gold. He asks her to send them one by one and reminds her that the interrogations are private.

Elisa asks Victoria to send a telegram to Don Javier first thing tomorrow, advising him of her impending arrival with her son. She hopes to be welcomed with open arms. Victoria asks if she'd also like to send a telegram regarding that favor Teresa was hoping for. "I won't lift a finger for my dear in-law," Elisa snickers. "I'll let the Alarcons smoulder in their own flames. Now prepare my bath!"

Jacinto tells Lupe that he doesn't want to fight. There are things he just doesn't want to tell his father. "Little Rock," Lupe says to Jacinto in English. It's a place in Arizona, Lupe says. (Er, does he mean Arkansas?) That's where Lupe tracked Jacinto's mother to. He invites Jacinto to write to her if he likes.

Benjamin interrupts: The police are questioning people, and they're starting with the chauffeur.

Antes muerta que Lichita #115 3/7/16 "El gran final" Part 1

Well, we finally made it to the end and it turned out to be only one hour after all. Anyway, Jane and I are still teaming up to put this one to bed so I will tuck it in and leave it to her to turn off the lights. (So to speak)
Here we go . . .

We pick up the story with Augusto confronting Alicia about the papers she has that belong to him and telling her he has never ever ever in his life forgiven a betrayal. He tells her not to make him look like a fool and asks her if the papers were the only reason she came. He wants to know why she would pay him back like this. Then he is right back in her face when she asks him if he thinks it was nothing what he did to Roberto: making him end up in jail again on his account. Augusto cannot believe that she could be in love with that imbecile. He cannot believe that he Augusto de Toledo Y Mondragón has fallen into her trap. He is at first incredulous but then he applauds her for having done it. She isn't just some social climber; she's a master of her craft. Alicia admits to us that there was some truth in his words. Alicia tells him she is sorry if she really broke his heart. He grabs her and again is in her face. Augusto tells her that he never thought it was possible for anyone to hurt him the way that she has. Anyway, it is too late to help out "her" Roberto. She wants to know what he did to Roberto. He screams that "her" Roberto is dead and throws her back on the bed. Alicia is shocked.

El Hotel de los Secretos #29, 3/4/16 Friday: Proof of Murder

What a way to start an episode! We are, I mean they are, exhausted from having some ‘I’m so sad, here, let’s have sex to make you feel better” sex. They declare that they now belong to each other. Who doesn’t do that the first time you do it with a person, right?

While they pledge themselves to each other and probably doing it again, we see Sofia looking at her now flat belly, Filipe kissing a comatose Mercedes, and a fully clothed Eugenia lowering herself into a tub.

Julio wants Isabel to run off with him. But Isabel wants to stay and change bad mojo in the hotel. But Julio throws cold reality on her face. He’s a waiter and she’s the owner’s daughter. That will never work if they stay there. He finally convinces her and tells her that he’s going to buy 2 train tickets and will meet her there at 6:30pm.

Antes muerta que Lichita #114 March 4, 2016... ALicia saves Mateo, stretches her luck too far, gets two ears full (one from Luci, one from AUgie) and ends up caught by Augie

Wow!! What An episode!!

Mateo has several near near near misses of getting flattened like a pancake by cars… when suddenly out of the millions and millions of people in Mexico City, who grabs Mateo and prevents him from getting in danger? Alicia!! Who happened to be walking exactly at the same spot… ok so the predictable happens next… he recognizes her and is very relieved, hugs her, he explains to her that GUmaro was supposed to meet with him and take him to Roberto but he never came, she swears to him that with her and her family he will be safe… moving on..

At hospital, poor Gumaro runs in to the bathroom but Mateo is nowhere to be found… Draco is following a shadow he saw go by… I don’t think he figured it was Gumaro. Needless to say, Gumaro does not find Mateo… Valeria calls him to find out what happened… he says surely Mateo was taken back to the Penthouse… Gumaro meets up back with Valeria and Luciana. Luciana thanks them for caring for her, she feels like they are her family. Vale says … well… we are.

Draco calls Augie who of course is not happy to hear the news… he wants Draco to fire the nanny and send her packing far far away… and then look for the escuincle Mateo.

Alicia brings Mateo to her home, to meet Elsa, Magos and Ximena. Alicia tells her family that Mateo is Roberto’s son… Elsa, Magos and Ximena are all surprised to hear the Roberto-Mateo relationship… Alicia begs her mom to keep him there, he will be much safer than with Augie. Ximena asks Mateo how old he is… 7.

Gumaro tells Luciana that he needs to go keep looking for Mateo. Luciana whispers to him she shivers to think that Augie would have Mateo… Valeria volunteers to go to the penthouse and find out instead of GUmaro risking his own neck.

Antes muerta que Lichita #113 Thursday 3/3/16

Last recap for Lichita. Thanks everyone for making this a fun experience once again! Until next time!

This was a long episode with much going on so lets jump right in!

For a person who just got arrested, Roberto seems very calm. Only when Augusto walks into the API office with his tsk tsk attitude did Roberto throw a disgusted glance his way. The API trio are shocked that corruption befell them and ask the wrong person (Augusto) how this could have happened. Augusto fishes for clues and asks if the API trio have another suspect/fall guy in mind. These dunces think this was a one man show and regret that Augusto moved on from API.

Valeria and Luciana discuss the epic attack Augusto faced from the exes...Val, Bea and Sandra. More surprising to Valeria was Alicia defending and supporting Augusto. She just cannot understand since Alicia was raised in such a nice family. Luciana is not so understanding and believes that Malicia is just plain deceitful, horrible person. On to more important topics....Luci confides in Val about the suspiciousness of her father's (Rafael's) death. Luci has a hunch that Augusto has something to do with it. They both confront Dafne when they realize she was the last one who spoke to Rafael before he died.

Jail again? Been there done that....

Pasión y poder, Episode 98, Thursday, March 3, 2016: Sudden Death, Stolen Babies, Broken Hearts, and Just Plain Malice – and you thought you had problems!

¿Para qué tienes a un niño en una telenovela?
¡Para que lo secuestren, c___!  Para que lo secuestren!
(Why do you have a child in a telenovela?
So he can be kidnaped, fool!  So he can be kidnaped!)
In Rating, by Alberto Barrera Tyszka, p.127.

Death is an affront.  Always.  Even at a distance, death strips us of the illusion of control.  But when death is close enough to chill the air we breathe, it also strips us of our masks.   As we look back at tonight's story, let's pay attention to the naked faces.

Eladio, primed by Arturo's trickery, has arrived at the Gómez Luna mansion prepared to confront Julia.  And so it happens that he takes the call from La Cruz Roja, and announces the dreadful news: Gaby's parents were in a terrible accident and they are both dead.  Everyone is stunned.  Humberto appears genuinely stricken.  Gaby, who only a moment ago was rejecting Julia's overtures and saying her parents and Franco were her only family, now collapses in Eladio's arms.  "Tell me it's not true!" she wails.

Jorge "Turtle Boy" Pérez has won the brass ring.  Yes, he knows Regina still has feelings for David.  Has he, perhaps, fallen in love with an idealized version of her?  No.  Unlike many of us, he can see the goodness in Regina's (incredibly annoying) soul. Yes, he knows that Nina isn't one of his fans.  He's just happy that Arturo is on his side.

Antes muerta que Lichita #112 Wednesday 3/2/16 "Augusto Confronted by Three Fates Plus One Fist"

Well, this is my last recap for "Lichita." So, I would like to thank everyone who stopped by the patio, those commenters who kept me company with their interesting points of view and lively discussions as well as my fellow recappers Jane, Ezra, CeCe and Marta who all made this such a fun experience. I hope to see some familiar faces on the patio for "Sueño de amor" next week. We could also use some additional recappers. If you are interested, contact Jane.

Now on with our story . . . at Icónika

We left Alicia being sexually pressured by Augusto but responding by screaming back at him in his face. Augusto comes to his senses, backs down and apologizes for his behavior. Alicia says okay to his apology but she is tired and they can talk later. He then expresses how much he wants to start a new life with her, to marry her and have children with her. Augusto laughs that he could be a father and grandfather at the same time. Alicia is puzzled for a second. He lets it drop that Luciana is pregnant. Alicia now has something new to consider. Augusto asks for a goodnight kiss. She kisses Augusto on the forehead. After he leaves, Alicia thinks about the "news". It was unexpected but she already had decided to run the risk of her plan because of her love for Roberto and nothing would change that even if he had chosen to be with someone else. But then she starts thinking about Luciana and Gumaro and what Mateo is doing at Augusto's penthouse and wondering why he is not with his father like he should be. Evidently Augusto has Roberto in a bind. Alicia has a lot to think about.

El Hotel de los Secretos #27, 3/2/16 Wednesday: Let’s Leave This Damned Hotel!

Isabel objects to her mother ordering Sofia to strip down in front of her suegra and butt-kissing assistant, while poor Sofia stands trembling like a scared three year old. Teresa doesn’t give a damn about Isabel’s objections or Sofia’s dignity. She just wants to blow Elisa’s schemes and intrigues out of the water by proving there’s a (psychosomatic) baby bump. When Sofia doesn’t strip fast enough, Teresa does it for her. Elisa it too horrified by the vulgar act of stripping one’s daughter, to even care that her theory about a fake baby was wrong (but she’s actually right). She and Victoria hustle out of there as fast as possible. Isabel helps Sofia dress, then comforts her crying sister. Teresa’s loving departing words—“Stop crying, Sofia! Lichita 3/2

Hi guys! This will be my last blog for Lichita, and It's unfortunate that my recorder had such terrible reception for it (I left out the bits that were too garbled to understand, so please fill in the stuff I missed)! Still, it's been a pleasure, thanks for being a great audience!

Alicia tries to get Gumaro to give her the real dirt on Beto. He mostly just tells her she needs to be easier on him, the two of them came from tragic origins and Sheila really knocked Beto off the straight and narrow.

El Hotel de los Secretos #26, 3/1/16 Tuesday: A Grand Send-Off For Andres; Felipe’s Frightening Familiars, And Sofia’s Compulsory Surprise

As per usual, nobody in Telenovela Land wants to believe their lyin’ eyes ‘n ears.  Andres has gotten the really real skinny on Belen from Violeta, and yet when he finally confronts Belen and she denies possession of that bag of Ruda, and then blames his mama for filling the entire hotel scene with her special kind of vicious, manipulative-mama-venom, Andres is finally undone by Belen’s appeal to her baby’s  blamelessness.  She’s got the guy twisted around every one of her little fingers not to mention her toes.  Mama overhears and begs her bubba not to scrape and bow before Belen, and he tells her to blow it out the hotel’s numerous ditty bags.  Viewerville must now sough and scowl and wait a while longer for this wicked wench to be outwitted.

Meanwhile, it’s late at night and Isabel’s besotted brother is of a mind to turn somebody in to Ayala for their sinful ways.  He admits to Isa he doesn’t believe that Mercedes’ fall was an accident. (Dun-dunnn!)

Pasión y Poder Martes 3/1/16 #96

Chapter 96:  No Valor, No Discretion

Whether in Roman times, the Renaissance, or during revolutions, the worst social sin is cowardice. It is always necessary to present a brave face to the world no matter what one faces and to be discreet about it. You close ranks around your own and take no potshots at anyone else lest they backfire. Some people just don't learn that lesson no matter how many times anyone tries to teach them. Others love to watch these people defy that lesson at their peril so they can enjoy the consequences. Or write about them. That's what keeps me in martinis, cognac, and champagne. – D.D.

Antes muerta que Lichita February 29: Lichita continues to recover from her evil spell, but accepts Augusto's attentions.

  • Augusto continues to breathe down Alicia's neck asking her to become his lover. She flirts and puts him off but finally says yes, for Beto's sake. He announces their "formal relationship" in front of all Ikonika. Beto is disgusted. She is congratulated for rising to the top of the food chain.
  • Beto had managed to spend the night with Mateo in Augusto's penthouse (thereby conveniently hearing Augusto panting over Alicia). They later discuss how much Mateo has been asked to conceal (by Beto, by Sheila, by Augusto) and Mateo promises to help Beto so they can go away and live together forever. Beto tells Luciana the escape must be soon, and that Gumi is key because he's one of Augusto's bodyguards.

Pasion y Poder #95 Brando DeNiro Pacino and DeCaprio Ain't Got Nuttin' on Humberto

The shrink tells Eladio to back off of Julia, she doesn’t see him as her boo anymore.  Eladio grabs the shrink and tells him that he won’t be able to control his emotions anymore if he doesn’t have Julia.  Yes! Cuz I loves me some Evil E!  Anyways, the doctor remains calm and doesn’t call security.  The Hulk, returns to his Bruce Banner and comes up with plan B.  If Julia won’t see him as her boo, he will make her see as her baby’s daddy.  Good luck with that Evil E.

Nina and Franny are in the garden enjoying tea and scones.  Franny tells Nina to screw both men and Julia (in different ways, of course) and get more cash! Cha-ching!  Franny uses a vulgar gesture to demonstrate.  I go to church on Sundays, so I won’t tell you which finger she used.

El Hotel de los Secretos #25, 2/29/16 Monday: Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown!

This little gem was brought to you by our friend and Patio regular, Pablo Villalobos! Many thanks indeed! :)

Duelus interruptus
The duel between General Ballesteros and Felipe Alarcón has lasted for the whole weekend. They started counting on Friday and they are still counting and walking back to back. Suddenly, the duel is interrupted by a loud scream that was probably heard all the way to Puebla. At this rate, they are never going to kill each other! General's seventh sense, told him that the scream was Mercedes and throwing his pistol, ran like a fox on hunting season.

One less secret
Meanwhile, not far from there, by the irony gates from Hell, I mean, the hotel, Isabel Alarcón is witness to the last thing she wanted to believe. Her mother was actually a snake. Doña Teresa had stopped Cristina Olmedo right on her tracks, and was asking her to give the famous letter back. Suddenly, something clicked inside her head and everything made sense. It felt like a puzzle being put together. When Cristina heard the scream, she asked, what, another dead maid?
