Me Declaro Culpable #30, 3/30/20: Secrets Discovered, Confessions Made, Dreams Lost, And Roberta's Still Crazy

Boy, the action was fast and furious this afternoon, even if Roberta committing suicide was all a Franco wet dream.  We see her inserting the pistol into her mouth, and suddenly Franco wakes up with a start.  He's been chastely cuddling with Alba, she under the sheets, he on top (of the sheets! what were you thinking?) and realizes the suicide was just a nightmare.  He does a double check to make sure the café door is securely locked, and then comes back for more chaste, reassuring snuggle time.

Home Sweet Home

Meanwhile Roberta and Mauro, both awake back at the house, are having a contentious papa-daughter chat.  She KNOWS Franco is not working late as he claims.  For sure he's with that Alba bitch. Mauro defends her as a "pobre muchacha" which ticks Bertie off big time.  So, you love her more than me!? (Well Alba did save his life, whereas Bertie tried to take it.  Sooo.....)

CarayCaray Lexicon for the Patio of Lowered Expectations - Part III

TELENOVELA-SPECIFIC GLOSSARY

Beso Interruptus – A near kiss, which would have been consummated between a couple, had it not been for some crucial (and probably fortuitous) interruption by a third party. (Doris’ mini-cap in Y Mañana Sera Otro Día.)

Can’t letgoitis – Refusal to admit that a lover or marital partner can move on. (Nandicta’s recap in AQNMD.)

Chickenitis – Disease produced when someone has the opportunity to say or do something to clear up misunderstandings and doesn’t. (Nina on AQNMD referring to Paulina not telling Adrian about his daughter Valentina)

Creative Constipation – Label used for telenovelas that can’t “go.” (Lila referring to where Vino el Amor was trying to “go.”)

Cue the Kayak – When a scene in any telenovela gets too tedious, this phrase is shouted out begging for the end credits to appear. (Etymology: Where kayaking did not feature in Triunfo de Amor, but accompanied the end credits. Originally from the pen of wordsmith Capt. Silvia Sharkbait referring William Levy in TdA.)

Me Declaro Culpable #29, 3/27/20: Apparently Denial Isn’t Only in Egypt

Coupling While Camping
Ok, I concede. They did it. Neither had ever felt the way they did ever before. It was like flying, but this time they flew together. On with all the hijinks for today.

It’s a Fizzle
The confrontation that we all thought Alba was contemplating as she flew out of the coffee shop when she left Blanca turned into a nothing about even less. She points at Mauro and tells him that because of his *relationship* with Ingrid, he’d better not be planning anything to prejudice her case. Mauro Denies anything of the sort. Berta is relieved. Mauro promises to back up Franco in her case.

Bertie’s plan to have Franco back in the matrimonial bed backfires. He’ll be sleeping in Nat’s room until she gets back, then he’ll occupy the guest room (although Pops may still be in it). He collects his glasses and some books and departs, leaving Berta in her black and white night clothes, surrounded by all her doo-dads.

Me Declaro Culpable #28, 3/26/20: The war is on!

Hi patio peeps! Below you'll find the recap for yesterday's episode. I apologize for being unable to provide a recap last week but I'm in California and our governor placed us on lockdown- but failed to give clear instructions on who could still work and who had to stay home, in the end my industry is considered essential so I still have to go to work. In addition to this my sister got her first lupus flare in years and she can't even go near a hospital because her doctors don't want her to be exposed to COVID-19.

This recap will be short and not in order, I just want to go to bed, working and dealing with the public has left me exhausted, and paranoid and my anxiety level is at 100%.

Me Declaro Culpable #27, 3/25/20: Family drama: The gift that keeps on giving

No snark, just the facts.   Comcast had perfect TV reception for this show today, unlike the past two weeks and this morning.  Telenovela gods were shining down on my TV.  Yay!

NATALIA &  PAOLO STUFF

We open with Paolo on the phone, telling Natalia about how Katia showed up and told him she met some guy last night whose ex-girlfriend did a hit and run on some guy a few months ago.

ROBERTA  (WHO ELSE?) STUFF

Roberta, looking no worse for the wear after last night’s escapades, comes to the office for yet another confrontation with Mauro about her childhood, mother, etc.   It’s the same old, same old, claims she is done lying and covering up for Mauro and she wants to kill him!  So she does.  This woman is strong, but then she single-handedly  choked her BFF Luciana to death a few weeks ago.

Bertie throws Mauro onto the sofa and has at it. Franco enters and breaks it up.  Mauro says she is getting dangerous again and needs to be locked up in the manicomio.  By now Bertie has an audience of Julian, Alba, and Franco, so she takes this opportunity to let them know that Mauro is the one who lit the match to set her mother on fire….may he himself die!

Me Declaro Culpable #26, 3/24/20: The Geometry of Drama

Point A to Point B

Drunk Roberta continues to insult everyone at the dinner party, and after every single member of her family tells her to go to her room, she grabs the car keys and an entire bottle of bourbon and heads out to Tiziano's bachelor pad, where she demands that he knock her up yesterday. Amazingly, he's up for it -- only not in the way she wants, because it turns out he had a vasectomy way before yesterday. He continues to swear his love for her -- why does she think he never married, anyway? -- and she continues to treat him worse than dirt. And now she's really mad because she got down with her dress on for no good reason.

Point A to Point C

Franco drives Gabriel back to Aqua House, where Gabe corners him for a "man-to-man" talk. "Are you in love with my Mom?" Franco comes clean, and Gabe says then dude, get a divorce already. What does it tell you when a 16-year-old boy is the only one who gives decent advice? The conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Pedro, who has invited himself to an impromptu slumber party.

Point D to Point E

Julian passes out after dropping Natalia's name but before dropping Paolo's, but even Katia can put two and two together and get homewrecker. She runs off to dish to Paolo, but he's not home and Dante won't let her in. Good doggie!

Me Declaro Culpable #25, 3/23/20: Where Has the Magic Gone?

Sorry, I just can't do short and sweet.

It’s been a long night for Nat and Paolo
They are still discussing the Always-There-Never-Wanted Julián’ phone call interrupting their unfinished Maximus Festivus Miraculum attempt. The fact that Julián said that it is now suspected a woman caused Paolo’s accident worries Nat. She asks Pao if that would make a difference to him? How? Well, Nat says, as she srolls through the list of her own probable reasons for it being a real accident. Pao’s not buying it. Man or woman, he’s in a wheelchair and full of anger towards the person. Nat wishes he hadn’t answered the call. He tries to sweet talk her back to where they left off. Nat says it’s not happening. The Magic Has Gone.

The KISS is Up and Hanging
Before Franco goes home, he stops by the office to hang his newest acquisition, Alba’s Awful Artwork, Executed in the Dark. Interestingly, he hangs it behind his desk, where he won’t see it all the time. Back home, he crawls into bed as far away from B-P Bertie as he can. The Magic is Gone. Meanwhile, Alba writes a letter.

Nat is entertained by a two-legged Paolo
While Paolo sleeps, Nat snivels watching him exhibit his soccer skills on TuTube. She climbs back into bed and whispers for Pao to forgive her, she didn’t mean to hurt him. He sleepily says she didn’t.

Me Declaro Culpable #24, 3/20/20: Where Were You When The Lights Went Out?

Greetings Patio Peeps.  I got some bad news from the doctor yesterday and it disabled my brain temporarily.  I forgot Anita was not recapping this Friday.  And I deleted the episode.  But here's what I remember, and I'm sure you all can fill in lots of juicy details in your inimitable style.  Countin' on ya Patio!

Aqua House of Hell

Gabe is back in the Snake Pit of Tia Ingrid's house but he has a plan.  He'll encourage her to set a place for Papi Javier at the table.  After all "he's always with her, so why not include him at dinner."  She's all chuffed and happy that he understands.  But alas, the little whelp goes a mite too far, and suggests she talk out loud to her brother.  Ingrid smells a rat, makes him stand up and sure enough, the recording phone on his lap falls to the floor. She's on it like a panther.  With hands of steel evidently, she destroys the phone-- literally rips it apart in seconds. Amazing.

Me Declaro Culpable #22, 3/18/20: The Good, The Bad, and The Dangerously Deluded

(Some poetic license taken, but the plot points are solid.)

BUFETE LOBBY

Ingrid: Help me, Daddy Lawbucks! Alba punched me out!

Mauro: You poor little muffin.

Julian: This firm should drop that skag like a hot rock.

Franco: Thanks for sharing.

Paolo: I'm here for workies!

Julian: Take these important legal papers and deliver them all the way across town while I make a surreptitious phone call to some people I hardly know who definitely do not owe me any favors.

Paolo: Kthxbye.

OFICINA NOSE-HAIR

Mauro: Let me kiss it and make it better.

Ingrid: Oh, goody!

Roberta: Oh, gross!

Mauro: Roberta, what a surprise.

Roberta: You're telling me.

Me Declaro Culpable #21, 3/17/20: Denial is not just a river in Egypt

This is “fast and dirty”, Patio.  I’m tired and stressed.  On top of grandma day care, our son’s local wedding this coming weekend has been rescheduled  thx to COVID-19 and ten-person gathering suggested limit (which I wholly support!!!  #flattenthecurve).   Crazy times we live in right now.   The novios  have scrambled to find an alternate solution,  and now we have a long day trip tomorrow to meet halfway between where her parents live and where we live, for a “pop-up” wedding  with only the parentals in attendance, and la nieta.   Our week is as crazy as this telenovela.  So here it is, Patio.  Forgive me for the lack of detail.    I’ve got bigger fish to fry.

Oh, and the local transmission of this show has been the total pits the past two days, so there are parts I could neither see, hear, and how does one recap a test pattern?   Oh, forget it.  My give-a-darn meter is busted.

ALBA/GABRIEL/INGRID STUFF

Ingrid must work out at Orange Theory or Crossfit.  She managed to get Gabriel off the floor and onto his bed muy pronto.  But hey, she hauled Luciana to the dump, so there we have it.  Pedro shows up to visit Gabe.  Crafty Ingrid tells him Gabe is asleep, has a slight fever, he’ll see him tomorrow at school.   Then the bank calls and while Ingrid is talking to them, Pedro goes on back to Gabe’s room, does not like what he sees, and says ‘bye  to Ingrid like everything is normal.   We learn later that he went straight to Alba and told her Gabe is in danger; something is wrong over there in crazy town.

Me Declaro Culpable #20, 3/16/20: Bloodsuckers and Emotional Vampires, and a Little Poisoning to Boot

Wow. Watching these episodes is exhausting.  Drama and über-drama out the wazoo.  Except for Franco who just keeps saying "tranquilo, tranquilo".  Well, he didn't look too tranquilo when he was laying hot and heavy kisses on Alba.  And Gabriel was far from tranquilo when he saw what his mama, only four months a widow by the way, was up to with her lawyer.  Ingrid claims to be "chapada a la antigua" [old-fashioned] because I guess I am too.  Moving on from widowhood that quickly seems unseemly to me.  But evidently in telenovela-world it's okay.  At least that's what Franco, Gael and Julieta are all preaching.  And they're supposedly in the "good guy" cadre.

But we start with fireworks.  First the Beso Fireworks.  Then the Outraged Gabriel Fireworks. Alba runs after him, pleading that he's the most important thing in life to her.  She's been trying to connect with him, looking everywhere for him.  Please wait and let me explain! Gabe isn't buying it.  Nor does he now believe that she really misses his dad.  How can he trust her when she always lies? Alba swears that she never lies! (How about lying to yourself, sweet lady?

Me Declaro Culpable #19, 3/13/20: The Wait is Over, There’s a KISS

There is still room at the #frustratedwithNatalia table, because she could still change her mind. Let’s get right to it.

Julián gives Nat the Heave Ho
Natalia starts out strong, but Julián’s barrage of emotional torture and spit spray in her face seems to turn her back into her jellyfish stage. Julián leaves her standing in the dimly lit office after pronouncing that after all the love he’s given her, supported her, knowing all her secrets and defects, he still loves her, but he’s tired of all the drama and she’s A.L.O.N.E. [Note to Natalia: We are waiting for you to decide between being forced to choose a sleazy jerk who can perform in bed and the guilt of choosing a really sweet guy who thinks he can’t, all because you caused his condition.]

Who’s Minding the Dump? A dog.
Ingrid chats nonchalantly with Mauro on her cell phone after escaping the manicomio with Bertie and now navigating through mounds of discarded human detritus. She tells him they are ok and passes the phone to Bertie.

The two Amazonas stop, in broad daylight, get the body of skinny Luciana out and rolled over into a pile of trash. Ingrid wants to hurry away. Bertie wants to say “goodbye” to her friend. She removes a fancy dinner ring Bertie had given her for her birthday awhile back to keep as a trophy. [Note to future forensic investigators: Will the ring be a key to identifying the killer? And what about Luciana’s shroud. I bet that could be traced back to the clinic.]

Me Declaro Culpable #18, 3/12/20: On the bright side Luciana won't have to worry about her diet anymore

Patio peeps this was totes intense.

A few observations: Do we know what the cause of death for Javier was? Because with the bald head they make it seem like it's cancer, but they also made it sound like Alzheimer's, but now we are being told his illness was a result of being poisoned by Ingrid. This is sloppy writing, how much access to him did Ingrid have that she could continue to poison him on a long term basis? What herb could cause you to lose your memories like he did? I'm confused, can anyone help me figure this out? Oooh also, because of the way in which he died wouldn't they have preformed an autopsy which would have revealed that he had been poisoned? This is a case for Forensic Files! Now to our recap:

We start the episode where we left off last night, Julian and Natalia are having a screaming match, Julian is getting a little too close for comfort and thankfully before things can get worse for Natalia Gael shows up and grabs Julian by the throat. I'm sitting on my couch cheering for Gael, I want blood! Sadly for me Natalia manages to get Gael to let go of Julian without further violence and I'm sad, someone needed to punch his lights out. I'm not violent, I swear. Julian slithers away but not before telling Natalia that "this isn't over".

Me Declaro Culpable #17, 3/11/20: La Declararon Loca

No snark, this was a down-to-business episode with a lot of meat in it. And backstory.  No fluff.  Enjoy.  Daniela Castro rocked her role today.  What an actress! She deserves an Emmy.

We open with Roberta pleading to Franco “don’t leave me, don’t send me away, etc.”  Roberta wants to go home.

Later on, Franco calls Alba in the middle of the night, wakes her up, wants to know how she is doing after almost meeting her maker, compliments of Roberta and her butcher knife.  He feels bad about what Bertie did.  Alba tells him that just the sound of his voice makes everything better.   Awwwww…..   (Methinks it’s his Argentinean  accent that has her swooning.  Well, that and his hot looks.  But I digress.)  This relationship is so going somewhere.   And Franco, holding his cup of coffee at the other end of the phone call, brings to mind  one of those old Nescafe commercials on TV.

Conversation between Roberta and Daddy Dearest a/k/a Mauro ---  she tells him he is the worst father ever, his lies, him hitting her when she was a little girl, etc.   Mauro says her illness is fabricating all that, creating false memories.  Roberta tells him that good fathers do not treat their kids the way you treated me.  You mistreated me, tortured me, made me suffer, lied to me, left marks on me.
(not sure if that means bruises or scars on her skin.)

Me Declaro Culpable #16, 3/10/20: Bed Heads

Radio Mala Racha:

The "mysterious caller" goes on and on. And on. And on. Not only are there no peepholes in Alternate Mexico City, there are no kill switches either. Finally Alba flees in tears, followed by Franco, who tries to talk her down. You are innocent! I am guilty! I can't recognize my own wife's voice! Me neither! It all ends in an inappropriate hug as usual, inconveniently witnessed by Roberta through the glass door of the studio. If you're wondering QTH she could possibly be doing right there right then, join the rest of us. We will probably never know, because she does a 180 and disappears.

Casa Paolo:

Paolo and Katia are sharing fond memories on top of the bedclothes. She tries to kiss him and is rebuffed, which for some reason moves her to strip down to her Frederico's of Hollywood and announce, "I don't really expect anything to happen between us; I just want to be near you." Honey? If you're shoving that much cleavage under a guy's chin and he's still looking at you like he needs a Maalox, he's just not that into you.

Despacho Pro Bono:

Mauro has only just now noticed that no one ever comes to work anymore, especially "Juliancito," whose main client just dumped the firm because nobody was paying any attention to him. Where is the little toad, anyway? Olga blandly replies that perhaps something has happened to him. Mauro says he'd better hope something has, or something's gonna.

Me Declaro Culpable #15, 3/9/20: The Tables Are Set And The Knives Come out

Another rough episode with treacherous women dealing out low blows to our clueless heroes and heroines.  Perhaps this is why Univisión has bumped the show up to 2 pm.  We don't want the kiddies coming home from school to see this kind of emotional carnage on the TV.  I'm assuming Como Dice el Dicho is milder fare.

It's not all misery though.  Ingrid and Julián apparently pass a hawt Nooner Only Sooner at his place; and Gabriel has an opportunity to do the same with a paid escort the previous night, but gallantly saves himself for the First Time with someone he loves. Too bad that "someone" is the sexy young mom of his best friend.

Me Declaro Culpable #14, 3/6/20: Guess Who is Coming to Dinner

If you guessed Paolo, you’d be wrong. Here’s what went down today. It wasn’t pretty.

Ensalada Interruptus
Alba has forgiven herself for misjudging Franco and the two are having a lawyer-client conversation complete with hand-fondling. They talk mainly about how Ingrid has turned Gabe against her and there’s nothing she can do about it. She doesn’t blame him, since of course she is an assassin. He rejects that notion. He does admit that hers is a difficult case, but they will prevail. He tells her not to lose faith. He asks her to go out for a salad as friends, not missing an opportunity to put his arm around her waist and then both hands on her shoulders. Olga, the secretary cum spy recruited by Bertie makes a call.

Bertie has just returned from her treatment at the hands of Dr. Luciana Matasanos, or in this case Metaesperma. She knows she must rest but promptly cuts her off when Olga’s call comes in, who passes on what she just observed. Alba and Franco have barely enjoyed a couple of bites and a couple of “looks” when a dark shadow passes in front of them. Bertie sidles up to the table. She explains she needed to talk to Franco and since he wasn’t in his office guessed he might be here. She’s quite civil, pleasant and offers apologies to Alba for interrupting. Alba jumps up from the table (it hard to say why—feeling guilty?), ceding her place to Bertie. Alba excuses herself and Bertie sits down. After some back and forth as to who deserves the salad, Franco tells her she can have his salad, too, and gets up and leaves telling her to enjoy. Bertie samples the broccoli.

Me Declaro Culpable #13, 3/5/20: Natalia Gets a Clue

Good morning peeps, it is 2 am pacific so this recap will be fast and easy.

The bombshell: Natalia learns the truth

Paolo sends Katia packing, later he and Natalia hang out (the editing in this novela is terrible) he tells her that he spent time with Katia but that he is not interested in her any more, the conversation then moves to Paolo being disappointed because there are so many things that he can no longer do. Natalia points out that while that may be true there are things that he can still do and asks him what else he would have wanted to do other than play soccer. He tells her he would have loved to be a race car driver (men!), Natalia tells him he can still do this and takes him out for a drive. And this folks is when things go sour, so so sour.

Natalia is in the passenger seat, she's not wearing a seatbelt- dumb bunny, and is helping guide Paolo's driving, they then arrive at the scene of Paolo's accident and that's when Natalia realizes that she was the person who ran over him, she has a mental breakdown and cancels the rest of their plans with some lame excuse about having to do something with her mom. Guys, she wants us to believe she wants to spend time with that nut ball, is nut ball one word or two?

Me Declaro Culpable #12, 3/4/20: Confusiones

Some scenes are combined, some not explored fully, but you'll get the idea.  My cable company/DVR has a title for each episode.  Today’s was “Confusiones” so that sounded good enough to me.  There are lots of confused people in this telenovela and we all know who they are.

We open with Alba & Franco in the hotel room, still arguing about what has just happened (see yesterday’s recap).  She is ranting on, tells him that now she understand “pro bono” and “I’m your bono, eh?”  (yet they never really talk about the red dress on the bed).

Alba tells Franco that Olga gave her the papers, with instructions to bring them to Franco.  Like the good legal “runner” she is (not!), she did just that.   We viewers do not question "why?" We just roll with it, or else we, too, will be confused. Just like these characters.  But I digress ...  Franco says he never had Olga do any such thing. Alba calls him a liar.   (awww, their first lovers’ quarrel)

Me Declaro Culpable #11, 3/3/20: Nuclear-Option Families

Bufete Monroy-Urzua:

Mauro tells Ingrid the judge has ordered her to undergo a psych eval, and she goes all poor pitiful me on him. He has clearly never been all the way around the block, because he falls for it hook, line and wishful thinking. He swears he is willing to make his son-in-law his worst enemy...if it's for her. Gawd, what a dope.

Alba brings Franco a sexy salad in his moonlight office, and he insists they share it. I hope she at least brought two forks. She confesses she has to hang out for a while because she's temporarily turned the Coffee Shop into an AirBnB for a lovelorn "friend."

Roberta shows up hoping for a romantic round two but overhears Franco and Alba giggling behind the closed door. She ducks down and calls him, pretending that Natalia's having a crisis and needs him right now, as in RIGHT NOW. Super Dad flies out the door and Mommy Dearest flies in, grabbing fistfuls of Al's hair and calling her every name we've already heard and at least one we still haven't, because it was so bad it got bleeped out. Any lip-readers out there?

Me Declaro Culpable #10, 3/2/20: Roberta Goes Hunting and Bags Herself a Man

Well, that wasn't all that happened of course.  Nat was prevented from confessing; Julián did unspeakable things to her teddy bear; Roberta and Alba both showed their technical prowess with cellphones; Ingrid pulled some more crazy ghost numbers, but Roberta seducing Franco took the cake as they say.  Remember when we all chortled that she'd need to get him drunk or drugged to fake a pregnancy?  Not at all. Just come onto him in the office and he's your guy.  Ready and able. Little soldier up and ready to fire.  But let's leave that gruesome scene for later.  How did this episode begin?

With Julián on a public phone, rasping with a Beelzebub voice, telling Franco his very own daughter is the one who hit the soccer star he's defending and left him for dead.  Franco refuses to believe a cowardly anonymous caller, so Julián suggests he investigate. "You'll soon find out your darling daughter belongs behind bars."

Me Declaro Culpable #9, 2/28/20: Shushshsh; It’s the Fox vs. the Nag

We left off where Franco is informing LaLoca that he’s had enough and he’s moving out of the house.

(First a Fashion Note: Roberta is wearing a see through print blouse with gathers between elbow and wrist and a black halter bra underneath. She’s divided in half by a 5” patent leather belt. Her short, tight, black skirt has seemingly been enhanced in the rear. It actually is quite a striking ensemble, just not on her.)

Bertie is all Katy Bar the (Barn) Door
She is trying to keep Franco from abandoning their home and hearth. She runs through a mental list of all the reasons he can’t leave her. He’s deaf to any of the reasons. She’s convinced that he’s leaving her for that ZORRA. (Time out for vocabulary: zorra = whore, a puta, perra AND a fox. Foxes are quite beautiful animals and women can be foxy. I’ll leave it at that and use “fox” to describe Alba, for I’m sure we’ll be hearing “zorra” repeated endlessly.) In addition, adds Bertie, she’s a killer. How could he have stooped so low. She wants to know the truth, that she’s Franco’s lover. Franco says she’s pathetic. He just can’t take it anymore, peeling her off of his jacket. She bares her teeth, like an old nag and swears she’ll kill him.

Me Declaro Culpable #7, 2/26/20: The plot thickens

Here goes, Patio.  First time to post on the main page.  Yikes.  If I mess this up, I hope one of the recapping team can fix it.    Aaaack!  I am sweating bullets!

Some scenes are combined, some glossed over.   And if I misinterpreted any dialog, please correct it?  Our characters were very busy today.

We open at with Natalia & Paolo at the park.  She is doing a good job of walking in those 4-inch spike heels on the brick-paver/cobblestone path.  Ah, to be young again.  Her phone rings, and Paolo makes snarky comment that it's probably loverboy Julian. (it is)

Vile Julian tells Nat he has the phone number of the guy in Toronto who she H&Red (Hit and Ran)  and encourages her to call the guy.  While she is engrossed in her convo, Paolo leaves.

Alba apologizes to Ingrid for the chokehold (girl learned some life skills in prison that might serve her well, later on?).  Ingrid rattles on that she never had a kid and doesn't know what that's like, but she has taken care of Gabe all his life and saw more of him than Alba has.  Alba agrees, but I want my son.  Now.

Gabe calls Alba pleading with her to get him out of Ingrid's Crazy House.  He can't take it anymore.  Alba says she will talk to the lawyer.  (Awww, here is another excuse to see Franco)

Julian is coaching the fake "victim" on how to act and what to say when Natalia calls him.   Dirtbag.

Me Declaro Culpable #6, 2/25/20: Screaming Meanies

Bufete Monroy:

Franco and Alba make an after-dark exit from the despacho. As he's handing her into the car to drive her back home -- i.e. the coffee shop, which is close enough for her to walk every morning with a fully laden coffee tray, but juarever -- he notices a flat tire. Turns out he doesn't know how to change a flat because all he ever does is hand porn and lawyer stuffs, so she does it for him. He calls her a little box o' surprises and grins goofily.

Meanwhile, Roberta is spying on them from her own parked car and just can't handle all that jack action. She hits the gas and tries to flatten Alba like a panqueque but only succeeds in pushing them into each other's arms. Well, so much for that plan.

Casa Urzua:

Julian is for some reason all alone in a house he doesn't live in, desperately trying to convince Nati over the phone not to turn herself in. She hangs up on him -- twice! -- and then refuses to answer his calls. He's just gotten out the requisite "no puede ser!" when Roberta crashes through the front door looking even more assymetrical than usual and starts chugging a bottle of whisky from the bar. They argue over who has the bigger problem, and of course Roberta wins because she's crazier. She peppers him with "sueltames" and "largates" and then runs upstairs and swallows the contents of every bottle on her nightstand.

Depa Duenas:

Ingrid flashes back to her brother's death scene, including a few small details we didn't know about. Apparently after Alba flipped the switch, she freaked out and switched it right back on again, but she was so overcome by grief and guilt and pretty tears that she didn't notice her husband was still alive. Ingrid rushed in screaming and chased her away, then very deliberately -- and permanently -- turned the machine back off. "Sorry, brother," she said. "I had to do it."

Me Declaro Culpable #5, 2/24/20: Three Hysterics and a Funeral

There was a lot of wailing, weeping and gnashing of teeth this episode.  Roberta, Ingrid and Natalia were all fighting for the Hysteria Honors.  I'll let you decide who, if anybody, won the grand prize.  But let's start at the beginning....

The breakfast chez Paolo is going badly.  He's venting about the horrid person who hit him and left him for dead, as an anguished Natalia listens-- and gradually realizes she's the culprit who ruined his life.  Way to kill the mood, Paolo, not to mention her appetite.  He's all over himself apologizing and she's all over herself getting out of there.  Seems there's an urgent errand she has to run for her dad.  Leaving Paolo and the breakfast behind, she flees at top speed.  And  in such a hurry she leaves her cellphone behind.  Pal Dante thinks it's a ploy.  "Hey, just means she wants to see you again."  Paolo's  not so sure.  He's afraid he blew it with his angry rant about the accident.

At the office, relationships are equally fraught.  Roberta is fixing Alba with a death glare, and chastising her husband for representing a heartless lady who "unplugged" her husband.  Alba wisely departs, while Roberta is merely ramping up with more.  When Franco quietly points out the lady has none nothing to Robs to merit that treatment, she snarls "Oh yes she has! She's come between us!"

CarayCaray Lexicon for The Patio of Lowered Expectations - Part II

RECAPPER-SPECIFIC GLOSSARY

Recaplet – A very short recap (Blue Lass on CQM)

Mini-recaplet – An even shorter recap (Somewhere in the mists of Caray, brought back by Doris in Y Mañana Será Otro Día.)

Bunnycap – Variation on the above (Susanlynn meant to say Bonny Recap, but tablet didn’t like it and preferred Bunnycap.)

Recrap – To be forced to produce a cogent retelling of an episode which is totally indigestible; commonly applied when the whole telenovela falls into this category.

Craptastic – Late addition provided by Doris, remembering Beckster who used it in FELS to explain crap that is fantastic. (Example: Seriously, we spent the first two nights of this craptastic story, watching Bernardo make sweet Feb/Dec love to young mentally deficient Libia. (Feb/Dec as in not even in the same year).….Since that time we have endured the same drawn out, overplayed hand. The only thing that has changed is somewhere along the dull endless path, Sofie popped a kid out, Juan went on a sabbatical to visit Indians, who thought he was smart, how sad is that?)

• 9-10PM—La Doña 2
